The Violet-backed starling (Cinnyricinclus leucogaster), also known as the plum-colored starling or amethyst starling.

The Violet-backed starling is a relatively small species of starling found in Sub-Saharan Africa. Adults reach a length of about 18 cm (7 in) and they are a sexually dimorphic species.

Males have an iridescent plumage on the head and back, which varies from plum-violet to purple-blue depending on the light, and have pure white belly and vent. As for females, they have brown, boldly-streaked upper parts while their white underparts are covered in dark brown streaks.
