EGYPTIAN GOLD TILAPIA FISH PENDANT New Kingdom, ca. 1550-1069 BC.
A golden amulet in the shape of a tilapia fish. A cast gold amuletic bead with a suspension hole through the centre. The fish has been crafted with careful attention to detail, boasting a tiny front fin, and with all fins intricately incised to depict their texture. Further diligence has been devoted to the face of the fish, and both sides are decorated in the same manner.

'Tilapia nilotica" ...rebirth & resurrection .. Pendant, carnelian, gold. ca. 1390-1295 BCE (New Kingdom, late 18th dynasty) Fish were not only a major staple in the diet of the ancient Egyptians, but many species were also related to gods. This fish pendant depicts a "Tilapia nilotica," a common species in the Nile. It was appreciated for its taste, and was also regarded as a symbol of rebirth and resurrection because it carries its eggs in its mouth and was, therefore, believed to be self-created. Carnelian was very popular in the New Kingdom and was used especially for rings, pendants, and other items of jewellery.
