Bro I was reenacting the "Just So" clip while I was putting away the dishes and when Frank yelled at Barnaby I was gonna say "oi fuck you" y'know because I was being silly but what came out was an almost PERFECT imitation of Barnaby's voice- I couldn't even finish the "fuck you" because I broke down laughing
Btw the reason this is so funny is because I'm a 5'2" Latino AFAB with NO experience in voice acting whatsoever yet for some reason the spirit of Giant Blues Clues decided my vocal chords were the PERFECT place to set up real estate
Anyway peace and love

Hey! I see you're into fragile/higgs ship and caught myself quite like them too recently (tho i've been in DS fandom already for a year and mostly thought about them as a friends)
Just wondering why do you like them? Do you have any headcanons/interesting thoughts? I'm very curious 👀
Hi! First of all apologies for the wall of text you're about to get, but unfortunately you came knocking at my door after I spent nearly two months ruminating about this ship basically by myself sooo I'm dumping it all here
Well the short (lol) version is that in my first playthrough I mostly just absorbed the characters and storyline, but by the time I got to their final scene on the Beach I was like wait a minute... their whole shared storyline feels way too loaded for them to simply have been business associates, that shit is personal, even Higgs wanting to damage Fragile feels way too pointed to just be justified by "he was a turncloak with a secret agenda." Now, I'm not against a "they were simply close friends" interpretation, it works just as well to explain the emotional weight of their falling out, BUT I also cannot ignore the zest, the flavor, the spice of them actually having been involved romantically at some point. And honestly going into my second playthrough with the shipping goggles on I can't help thinking that Fragile speaks about Higgs like he was an ex that hurt her, and the way that she is suspiciously cagey about the specifics of their relationship makes my ears shoot up like a German shepherd.
On a Doylist level I also find it interesting that Kojima gave Higgs extra backstory that connects him to Fragile in the Director's Cut, and also how the behind the scenes for the DS2 mocap show Troy and Léa sharing a scene... I think Kojima is not done intertwining their story and we'll get more info in the sequel.
Now for the headcanons... I have enough that I might or might not be writing a long-ish fic about it, but I want to finish this Director's Cut playthrough before completing it (I could just look stuff up on the wiki but that's not fun). Also I have some art in the pipeline about it that I hope to post within the week. Anyway, the bite sized version of how I envision their relationship:
I hc Higgs as being immediately attracted to Fragile but not really acting on it, while she develops her attraction after getting to know him a little. Then she's down bad but she doesn't even realize it until it's so obvious it hits her in the face
A few people at their joint Fragile Express/whatever Higgs' operation was called co-op assume they are an item long before anything ever happens, because they just hang out together a lot. They have a similar penchant for corny jokes and puns and enjoy some light banter; Fragile finds Higgs' flair for theatrics endearing, while he is drawn to how gentle she is because he has known so little softness in his life (also he thinks she's insanely pretty, which duh. It's self evident because Léa Seydoux) (it's his first serious girl crush anyway; I hc him as bi and as having had mostly experiences with men before her)
They bond over their DOOMS condition and Higgs is fascinated by Fragile's powers, while she is less enthused by all the collateral effects. In my hc, at this point she has yet to become as skilled at traveling through dimensions as she is in the game, which makes her reluctant to agree to Higgs' requests to show him the Beach. This sows the seeds of his resentment towards her, because he feels she has a privilege she doesn't make use of and doesn't want to share.
They are both pretty touchy feely (canon!) so when their relationship goes from friendly to romantic it gets physical immediately and enthusiastically. Yes even accounting for the worldwide lowered sex drive. If there's one thing I never do is put characters in horny jail 🫡
I think Fragile got to know a version of Higgs that was quite different from what we see in the game, which you sort of can gauge from the more optimistic pages of his diary. Like there's a part of him who's starved for love and connection and a sense of belonging and gravitates towards people like Coffin (he never had a mother) and Fragile herself; ironically, the pull towards Amelie answers to the same need but in reality it feeds on his more nihilistic, call-of-the-void side. I'm not saying that Amelie brainwashed him or anything, but I think she saw what was already there – a  deep seated resentment towards a hostile world and towards those he feels got handed a luckier deal than he did, that he countered by clinging to the notion of being special because of his DOOMS, but then there's someone like Fragile who's even more special and doesn't seem to be doing much with it. Amelie gave him a chance to fulfill what he felt was his potential and shared her power with him, but the tradeoff was severing  the connections he had, "killing" the part of him that wanted to be loved to make space for what he perceived as a higher form of love ("I found someone who completes me" which he says to Fragile specifically like he wants to rub it in her face? Like she wasn’t  enough to fulfill that role?)
That’s why I think it’s significant that he lost his hands with his power-up, because the (holding, welcoming) hands are strongly associated with Fragile; and to me it makes sense if he purposely ruins her body also because it’s a way to stifle his attraction to her. There’s also a lot of projection because HE is the one who’s felt like damaged goods all along, who grew up being  crushed psychologically and physically. I also think that both of them coming close to annihilating the other but choosing not to – leaving them in a dicey situation but not entirely without escape – shows in some twisted way that their bond still exists, which makes me giggle and rub my hands like a nasty little goblin knowing we have another game coming.
So… That’s the gist of it. Sorry for rambling on but as I said, I don’t really get the chance to talk about this ship much – greetings from rarepair hell, etc.

i kind of alluded to this in all of the asks about childe, but one of the precious few people who know about your relationship with him is capitano. and i don’t mean that the first harbinger knows of you; i mean that he knows the most intimate details of your relationship.

I'm literally Bilbo staring at the One Ring while I think, "I've got plenty of time to write a second chapter for Blades in the Night... it wouldn't be so bad, would it? What's 7-10k words between friends? I could leave it finished and expand on it whenever I have an idea for it... Who could it hurt?"
Meanwhile, I stare at one of the many half-finished one-shots in my docs and think, "Oh, I could do that this weekend most likely... and then I could write another couple k for Nightsongs if I just skip a few hours' sleep..."
Madness begins at the fingertips, I swear.

So we all know about the older generation freaking out about the birth decline right? And that one of the reasons has been that they're worried about not enough people around to care for them in their old age.
(Hence one reason why supposedly there was a push to revoke Roe V. Wade because that would magically solve it. [even though lots of women died of birth related complications prior to Roe and now people are literally getting themselves sterilized to prevent that fate.])
But anyways, I have a new theory, it's about real estate. If people are truly dying faster at a significant rate than people are being born, then one, a lot of us will be inheriting property. Two, there may be an excess of real estate very soon, if birth decline trends continue.
What is one of the hardest things in a person's life to attain, property a place to live. Which has definitely been used to control people.
There's also a fact that real estate up until fairly recently was considered one of the safest ways of investing money. Most people would rather sell their home than not pay their mortgage.
What are the two ways that rich people make money without labor or control their workforce (if they're even business owners at all.)?
In interest, via people paying for their mortgages and in owning and renting property. Who's going to bother renting if there's a bunch of houses? How worthwhile will their many acres be if there's a ton of empty houses? Their land won't be gaining value just by existing in their names anymore.
If a true excess of houses happens, then the main money in real estate ventures will actually be in repairing them, maintaining them, and customizing them. All jobs that would be considered blue collar work that actually requires real labor.
The rich people paid various analysts to say that a declining birth rate would make the old people not get care (Which makes sense because the party that serves the richest also tends to be voted for via old people.) So they chose a fear that most of their voters would care about to take advantage of...
But yeah, it's about real estate and banks and not making interest anymore for doing nothing but holding onto resources. Also obviously the less people there are, the more valuable all laborers would be too. When there's more people than jobs, that's an employers market, right? They can lowball their workers and the workers have to go for it because they need a place to live and eat. Where there are more jobs than people, that's an employees market. Where the main negotiation actually favors them, because they are hopefully empowered to know that the company needs them more than they need that company.

had a thought. if lloyd were to ever be infected with a poison/curse that makes him think of everyone as a threat and/or something happened to him that made him lost a limb and became increasingly paranoid to the point he'll resort to irrational solutions (basically if he got alicia's fate instead), would javier stay loyal to him and still follow his orders despite it all? :<
because imagine if things got too extreme and javier would have to be the one to kill him (˘・_・˘)
mmhhh i gotta say i don't particularly like that change of the webtoon. alicia's not paranoid because she's under a curse. she's paranoid because she went through a traumatic experience, is under a lot of stress and her mind is just prone to turn towards paranoia. which is much more fun imo!
but! let's focus on the second scenario for the sake of fun mental exercises.
would javier stay loyal to lloyd if he started becoming paranoid and irrational? mmhh,,, i think it would depend on who lloyd becomes paranoid against.
if lloyd turned paranoid against absolutely everyone, including his own family, then no, i don't see javier staying loyal to him no matter what.
see the thing about javier is that his loyalty is not mindless or just dutiful. he's not loyal for the sake of being loyal. he only gives his loyalty to the people he genuinely thinks deserve it. he's not sir blanc, who was loyal to the queen til his very death and only in his dying moments allowed himself to ask tkobai javier to stop her. javier is constantly thinking about whether the things he's doing are good and he protests and speaks out when he thinks something is wrong.
he's loyal to arcos because arcos has proven to be good and kind. and he's loyal to lloyd because lloyd has proven to be good and kind (in his own way) too.
if they weren't, then i don't see javier being all that loyal to them in the first place
(that's not to say that javier isn't flexible with his morals if it comes down to doing things for the people he's loyal to tho! a big step in his relationship with lloyd, is him being willing to compromise in things he thinks aren't in complete alignment with his own moral code, because he either 1) comes to understand where lloyd is coming from 2) thinks is the best way to protect lloyd and the fronteras or 3) just because lloyd asked him to. but that only comes after lloyd proves he deserves being trusted and he does by proving he wants to help and protect the fronteras and the estate.)
so if lloyd turned against the family and estate that javier loves so much, i don't think javier would be able to remain loyal to him, no matter how much he'd want to
now, if lloyd's paranoia were to manifest in an extreme need to keep his family and home safe from everything around them that may hurt them, that would give us a lot more wiggle room to play with
and we have to take into account that even in canon, lloyd looks irrational plenty of times. sure, he finds way to justify himself, but a lot of the things he does make no sense from an outsider perspective! javier is already working from a 'this may as well happen' kind of attitude in canon. if lloyd were to suddenly get paranoid and act out in irrational way, i don't doubt it would take people a while to notice that there's something amiss lol
so let's say something terrible happens, something that none of them can avoid, something javier can't defeat in time and lloyd is horribly hurt because of it.
no one would blame lloyd if turned more wary and cautious after that, least of all javier, who'd be wrecked in guilt at not being able to protect him.
they also wouldn't bat an eye if lloyd started to raise his estate's defenses, increasing their power and preparing their people for an attack. they just saw the consequences of not being on guard, their young master just paid the price of their complacency, no one would protest against making sure it never happened again.
and if lloyd suddenly declared that another territory, another kingdom even, was plotting against them, scheming for their downfall, well, why wouldn't they believe him? a trusted knight betrayed their lord, another territory already poisoned their water, a good portion of their population is formed of refugees from an attack of a foreign power, this wouldn't be the first time they've been hurt by others. and it had always been lloyd that saved them. why wouldn't they trust their young master this time?
and lloyd, who's been hiding how he knows things he shouldn't know for a long time now, has a lot of practice making irrational things sound perfectly acceptable when coming out of his mouth. and in his mind, his paranoid thoughts would make so much sense, he'd be convinced he's acting for their own good, he'd be able to spin all his incoherent fears and anxious thoughts into something compelling. he always has.
and javier, who already said before that he would trust lloyd no matter how insane what he said sounded like, would follow along because to do otherwise, after he failed him like that, would be unthinkable. and lloyd's acting for the good of the family, for the estate, just as he always has, why wouldn't javier follow him this time too?
he'd want to prove to lloyd and to himself that he can be trusted, he can be worth having lloyd's trust, he'll try harder, he'll do everything to keep him safe this time.
it would take quite a bit for javier to decide he can no longer follow lloyd's will, not when everything he's doing seems to be for the good of the family. it would have to be something truly horrible for him to reach that point.
i'm also torn?? on how likely it is that javier would even be around to see what lloyd is actually doing. because on one hand, lloyd is not the sort to stay behind while his people are working on getting rid of anything he deems a problem and anywhere lloyd goes, javier goes with. but on the other hand, if lloyd's paranoia is about keeping the people he loves safe at all costs, then javier is very much included in there. and maybe he'd think it too high of a risk to have javier risking his life when the entire world has turned against them.
and if he's giving in to all of his paranoid thoughts, then i can also very easily see him being too wary of letting javier be too involved in his plans, precisely out of fear javier will turn on him. lloyd knows javier, he knows the way he thinks, what he cares about, he knows javier is, more than anything, a good person. and good people don't always have what it takes to do what's needed. he wouldn't turn on javier, he's a part of the very thing lloyd wants to protect no matter the price he has to pay, but i can see him hiding the truth from him, convinced as he is that he's doing the right thing.
crying and throwing up at the idea of javier having to be the one to kill loyd to stop him tho. because. javier is the person lloyd trusts the most in the world. 'There was no one else he would be able to trust as much as him'. imagine this lloyd, lost in his paranoia thinking the whole world had turned against him, but still trusting javier wholeheartedly, believing he's the one person he can count on no matter what. only to be betrayed and killed by him. oh i would go insane actually
very fun scenario thank you for sending it!
