Queen Camilla will most likely arrive at Westminster Abbey bareheaded like Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary, and Queen Elizabeth but she may choose to wear the Diamond Diadem like Queen Elizabeth II.
Tumblr media
The Diamond Diadem (also called the State Diadem or the George IV Diadem) was created in 1820 by Rundell, Bridge, & Rundell for King George IV to wear during his 1821 coronation. He wore it over a Spanish hat with feathers on the way to Westminster Abbey.
Tumblr media
It has since only been worn by women and it occupies a weird space between a crown and a tiara. Previous queens used it a bit more generally just like any other tiara but Queen Elizabeth II only used it for more ceremonial events like the coronation and state opening of Parliament. I don't see the tiara going back to being used as a regular tiara since everyone is so used to the way Queen Elizabeth II wore it. Even if Queen Camilla doesn't use the Diamond Diadem tomorrow, I hope that they release a formal portrait of her wearing it soon.

Letter from Ordway Hilton to Robert Stripling Regarding Alger Hiss
Record Group 233: Records of the U.S. House of RepresentativesSeries: Investigative Name Files
[letterhead] Elbridge W. Stein Examiner of Questioned Documents - Handwriting and Typewriting 2301 Park Row Building, 15 Park Row New York 7 5 December 1948 Robert E. Strping, Esquire Chief Investigator House Committee on Un-American Activities Washington, D.C. Dear Mr. Stripling: I have made a careful examination of three specimens of typewriting submitted to me by Mr. C.E. Owens and compared them with the typewriting on various copies of government records which had been previously submitted to this office. The three specimens of typewriting are: 1. A photographic copy of a letter to Mr. Edward W. Case, 211 E. Main St., Westminster, Md., dated May 28 1936 and bearing the signature Alger Hiss. 2. Letter to Mr. J. Parnell Thomas dated August 18, 1948 and bearing the signature Alger Hiss. 3. A sheet of mimeographed questions, ten in all, without further identification. The typewriter used to prepare letter 1. is a machine equipped with elite type, i.e. it writes 12 letters to the inch. From the design of the typefaces it appears to be either a Remington standard, Remington Noiseless or Underwood Noiseless typewriter. In any event the design of letters eliminates the possibility of this typewriter having been used to write any of the material which had been previously submitted. The typewriter used to write letter 2. is also an elite type machine, but from the design of the letters it is clearly a typewriter built by the Remington Noiseless factory since 1946. Some of these machine are sold as Underwood Noiseless typewriters. This typeface design eliminates the machine as having been used to write any of the 1938 material. The machine used to prepared the third specimen of typewriting is equipped with pica type, the large size type which spaces 10 letters per inch. From the design of the typefaces I am able to eliminate this machine from any further consideration as it is equipped with a style of type used on Noiseless typewriters, either Remington Robert E. Stripling, Esq. 5 December 1948 2. Remington or Underwood, which was first put into use around 1946. From the design of the typefaces and their size I am able to state positively that all three specimens of typewriting, letters 1, 2, and 3, were written on different typewriters. Very truly yours, [handwritten signature] Ordway Hilton [typed signature] Ordway Hilton OH:3

hi there! sorry, this is sort of a weird ask — feel free to ignore.
i’m just a queer trans person who’s wanted to transition for years but my family is not really on board with it. i was really hoping to go to uni and transition there, and Edinburgh is one of the places I’ve been aiming to apply to. except… the city seems so transphobic?^ as someone who seems to have been there/knows a bit abt the uni, i was wondering if you wouldn’t mind talking about the city a little bit, in regards to this, if you would up to it? weirdly enough i do know lots of people who live there, i just don’t know them well enough to ask stuff like this dhjgfdjfb
hi there anon!
so firstly, full disclosure that I haven't lived in Edinburgh for about a year now, but my sister still does so I visit all the time. Generally, I think the city is a great place to live if you're trans, or queer in general. There's a great queer scene with clubs and sober spaces, Edinburgh pride is great, Portobello (Porty) pride is well worth a visit and only a bus from the city centre, Glasgow pride is also great if you can get the train across. Events like the terf screening are absolutely an outlier, stuff like that is gonna happen in big cities just due to numbers - it is the capital of Scotland after all. Occasionally there are random terf stickers on lampposts, but i've seen at least twice as many pro-trans stickers about. In regards to that screening, the number of people who turned out to protest far outnumbered the people actually there to see the stupid film, and the protest was supported by the uni's staff pride network (i know because my sister was there on their behalf as an organiser/first-aider hah)
on that note, i think edinburgh uni is also pretty good for trans stuff - I wasn't out as trans yet when i was at uni, but I had friends who were trans and they didn't seem to have any issues on the uni/admin side of things. The uni has a pretty good student pride society, and as i mentioned, there's a staff pride network, so there's a solid bunch of staff who would be in your corner if you did have any issues. The uni's student support in general is okay - the general standard for that stuff honestly isn't great in the UK, and I wouldn't say edinburgh's is amazing, but they did help me out a couple of times (with non-lgbt stuff).
you'll probably know more about me than the applications process for uni in regards to chosen name etc, and it depends if you're applying through UCAS (in the UK) or if you're abroad, so i'll leave you to more knowledgeable people on that. I would say that if you apply in your chosen name, any post you receive about applications will be in the name you apply with, so keep that in mind if the people you live with aren't supportive - terribly sorry that you're in that situation, by the way. It really does get better once you're away from them.
in regards to transition, if you're wanting to be referred to a GIC, you'll likely be referred to Chalmers centre, which seems to have a waiting time of about 2 years currently - that sounds like a lot but from what i can gather, that's quite a lot lower than most places in the UK (i'm in NE england and my nearest centre isn't even taking referrals because their waiting list is 6+years long 😭). Once you're registered with a GP you should be able to ask them about a referral and they can give you more info.
overall I think that Scotland is probably just a better place to live if you're trans in the UK - scottish parliament supported self-ID (i'm actually unsure if this has come into effect yet, need to do some googling) and if they weren't under the UK gov, they were going introduce legal third gender options too. The SNP and scottish parliamentary partiers absolutely have some outspoken transphobes, but they're much more of an outlier than in westminster, so generally i think the outlook for trans people is just way more positive in Scotland - I'm certainly planning to move back there as soon as the circumstances line up for me. It's pretty scary everywhere in the UK right now in terms of policy (and general attitude, to an extent) but yeah i think overall Edinburgh and Scotland in general are your best bet.
If you have any more questions or anything i'm happy to chat! Absolute best of luck to you, no matter where you end up, both with your transition and uni in general 💜

How the trans activists fooled Ireland - UnHerd
Ireland is the trans activists’s trump card. Whenever debate flares up about self-identification or the Gender Recognition Act or transgender rights, campaigners can say “There has never been any trouble in Ireland.” And governments believe them.
The Irish “success story” has been trotted out and swallowed down whole. Ireland was an early adopter of “self-ID”: since 2015 the state has allowed individuals to change their “gender” — their legal sex, effectively — just because they want to. There are no background checks and no medical reports.
Let’s be clear, that is an affront to safeguarding. But that has not stopped activists claiming Ireland to be an example of “international best practice”, and framing it as a great model for Westminster and Holyrood. But while politicians may still be lapping up whatever activists tell them, recent polling suggests that the Irish public is not convinced.
It does not take a legal expert to see the dangers. If biological males can access women’s single-sex spaces including hospital wards and prisons simply by making a statutory declaration, it was only a matter of time before there was an outrage. In fact, there have been at least two in one prison.
Barbie Kardashian is a troubled teenager who was “born a male but identifies as female”, and has a history of particularly nasty physical and sexual violence towards women. Having previously torn the eyelids from a female care worker, Kardashian was jailed last year in the women’s wing of Limerick prison following threats of violence against two individuals. According to the court report, Kardashian was “very anxious she be detained in a prison facility for females, as she identifies as a female”.
Already there was a “pre-operative, pre-hormone therapy”, male-to-female transgender prisoner who had been convicted of ten counts of sexual assault and one count of cruelty against a child.
Whatever Irish politicians had been thinking when they waved through the 2015 Gender Recognition Act, there had not been any proper public debate to inform the new legislation. But that is not surprising; the law was changed swiftly and quietly, just the way the activists like it.
“Nobody spoke about the GRA,” says the Irish writer Stella O’Malley. It wasn’t even mentioned in the media: “We were all about the gay marriage referendum and the GRA just didn’t come up. I’ve always been interested in trans issues and I would have noticed if it had.”
This strategy is straight from an activists’ handbook, or to be precise the “Denton’s Document”. This guidance – officially titled, Only adults? Good practices in legal gender recognition for youth – was published two years ago. Backed by an unlikely triumvirate of Dentons (the world’s largest law firm by number of lawyers), Thomson Reuters Foundation and IGLYO – the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex Youth & Student Organisation – it was an instruction manual for lobbying groups who wanted to extend gender recognition to young people with or without their parents’ permission.
The tactics are detailed in full within the handbook, including the instruction to “avoid excessive press coverage and exposure.” And specific reference was made to Ireland where, “activists have directly lobbied individual politicians and tried to keep press coverage to a minimum.”
O’Malley was right: the events of 2015 had been carefully managed.
“In Ireland, Denmark and Norway, changes to the law on legal gender recognition were put through at the same time as other more popular reforms such as marriage equality legislation. This provided a veil of protection, particularly in Ireland, where marriage equality was strongly supported, but gender identity remained a more difficult issue to win public support for.”
It’s only now, six years on from the Irish Gender Recognition Act, that the public has been consulted. Not by the government, even now, but by The Countess, an Irish campaign to restore the privacy, dignity and safety of women and children in schools, workplaces, sport, changing rooms, toilets, hospitals, prisons and refuges. Opinion polling carried out for them by Red C – found that respondents were not impressed.
Only 17% agreed with the 2015 law that allows someone to change their birth certificate as soon as they self-identify as the opposite sex. Rather more (34%) thought it should be permitted once a trans person has partially or fully transitioned through hormone treatment and/or genital surgery. But 28% felt that individuals should not be allowed to change the sex on their birth certificates at all.
Even younger people (aged 18-34) favoured no changes to birth certificates, as opposed to the laissez-faire approach that was pushed through parliament. Overall, men were more cautious than women — perhaps because they better understand what men can be like.
Birth certificates are the last line of defence for service providers trying to maintain single-sex provision for women. If these can be changed on demand, then the safeguards become worthless. We can probably safely assume that few men would ever seek a Gender Recognition Certificate but mixed in with those suffering from gender dysphoria — a diagnosable medical condition — would be those who women need to worry about most. There’s little point of locking a door if a potential abuser can cut his own key.
As the polls show, while Irish politicians were captured by the transgender activist lobbying, the Irish public understands the dangers. When asked about transgender people who had not been through gender reassignment surgery, more people than not opposed their inclusion in changing rooms, sports, refuges and prisons. Clearly, the naïve government policy that led to the outrage in Limerick women’s prison is not supported by the electorate.
Laoise Uí Aodha de Brún, founder of The Countess said, “This is the first time the public has been given a say on gender self-identification. When the government passed the Gender Recognition Act in 2015 it did so with little thought of the effect it would have on the wider community, let alone consultation with groups that would be most affected, particularly women.”
This does not mean that The Countess and the Irish public are transphobic. Rather they are pro-science, and supportive of the rights of women to defend their own boundaries. As a transgender person myself, I know transphobia when I see it and this is not it. It is not hateful to make factual claims such as “transwomen are not female and therefore not women”, nor is it transphobic to apply safeguarding procedures appropriate to an individual’s biological sex. That is necessary to protect everyone’s welfare. Accusations of transphobia are thrown around far too easily and they deflect attention from genuine hate.
Unfortunately, though, the Irish self-identification “success story” has been misrepresented and disseminated by activists who are desperate to extend it far and wide. On this side of the Irish sea, the Westminster government has, to their credit, thrown out self-identification, despite the howls of protest from some quarters — but gender recognition is a devolved matter. North of the border, Nicola Sturgeon’s SNP government seems determined to make the same mistakes as the Irish one, despite the furore surrounding the debate. Scotland has already cited alignment with “international best practice” as a rationale for introducing self-identification, using Ireland as an example.
All these leaders have been hoodwinked by a narrow group of self-interested activists who have seized the agenda and are loath to let go. I’m a teacher and my pupils are taught to think critically. Some of our politicians need to learn a similar lesson. Instead of following blindly, then need to start asking themselves some hard questions. I suggest they kick off with “Who told us that self-ID was international best practice and why did we believe them?” Because this polling suggests that their electorates would like some answers.

LONDON AWARDS 2023 AFTER PARTY:
Location: Westminster Pier. Hosts: Alexis Larsson & Yvonne Rutherford. Date: Friday 31st March, 2023. (roleplaying will start when awards complete.) Dress Code: Formal. Dress to impress. Short dresses are fine.
EVENT SUMMARY:
If you're asking why the Rutherfords would own a giant ass yacht that's too big for them to use, then you must be a poor. It's because they can, and the only reason you're able to breathe in its vicinity, let alone step on it, is because you're invited to the exclusive after-party to dance, drink and celebrate with London's biggest winners and losers no one will even remember tomorrow. All on a fucking super yacht along the Thames.
Make sure to thank Yvonne Rutherford for acknowledging your existence.
The party will kick off with a fireworks show greeting the guests over the open deck where the main party is. Just be careful not to trip into the swimming pool—yes, there is a swimming pool—as you dance the night away to the raging beat courtesy of the in-yacht DJ Tiësto. Worry not, there's a bar at the three main levels (of the available five) to quench even the thirstiest socialites London has to offer.
If you're looking for a more chill vibe, the party carries on in the interior living spaces, littered with plush chairs and comfy couches for you to vibe off your feet or perhaps partake in illegal substances in relative privacy. Hors d'oeuvres prepared by the staff of The Empire's Michelin star restaurant will also be served.
Meanwhile, those who seek further privacy, wish to rendezvous with someone they maybe shouldn't be seen with, or are willing to partake in some mystery may venture into the theatre room—because of course this yacht has one. The seats are cleared out to convert this cozy room into a dark dance hall, barely illuminated by colorful laser lights and underscored by the richest bass beats afforded by the cinematic sound system.
Despite the size of the yacht itself, the guest bedrooms do come in limited number, thus their occupancy is at a first come, first serve basis, aka be sure to knock before you enter and lock the door behind you. By the request of the Rutherford family, their respective bedrooms are locked and will not be accessible for privacy and sanitary reasons.
Safety is of utmost importance, with a small medical staff and helicopter on board for emergencies. That said, your RSVP comes with a waiver clearing the organizers of any legal responsibility over whatever shenanigans may occur during the event itself.
The jet ski somehow arrived with the yacht itself. It shouldn't have, but it did, so that's off-limits, too.
ATTENDANCE & IMPORTANT NOTES:
Everyone can attend this event, regardless of their affiliation or whether they attended the ceremony itself. That said, if you feel you character wouldn’t participate, then there’s no pressure to. Take note that there will canonically be a lot of important members of London’s social scene present, so the party will be pretty jam-packed with the city’s self-proclaimed finest and most famous. This will be considered a monumental social event this year, so people will be looking to go wild and make the most of it.
TWI will be paying attention. It is not a private event.
There will be no mob drama. Can people fight and have verbal spats? Absolutely. Encouraged. Given that everyone from all of the mobs should be in attendance, this will be inevitable. I don’t mind a bit of physical fighting if you want to go that way. There will be nothing large scale, though, or anything to derail the party as a whole. No stabbing, shooting, casual murder until you’re on the way home.
PERKS FOR THE AWARD WINNERS:
For all of those who walked away from the ceremony with an award in their hands, your fortunes do not end with a golden statue. Thank God because that ain’t real gold fam. You will be entitled to some complementary treats as an added bonus, courtesy of Amir Dawar. These cannot be exchanged, nor gifted to non-winners, though winners are permitted to invite guests to their suites.
All winners will enjoy free drinks for the entirety of the evening. This will include bottle service so the peasants can feel special.
All winners will be offered access to a hotel suite at The Kingdom Hotel in Westminster for the entirety of the weekend. Winners for Best Couple and Should-Be couple will get presidential suites. Enjoy them.
Winner of both Man of the Year and Woman of the Year will win an all expenses paid trip, transfers included, to any of the Khan-Dawar hotels (* with the exception of the Belize location.) A private jet will take them and a guest of their choosing whenever they wish to redeem the prize.
Winner of Best Dressed Man and Best Dressed Woman (awards that will be announced at the after party, rather than the ceremony itself) will both win £15k of credit to spend at Harrods in Knightsbridge.
Winners of the Best Dates award (also announced at the after party) will win an all inclusive spa day at the hotel, at a time of their choosing.

Westminster Abbey is getting a bit crowded someone once thought, with all these monuments to dead people cluttering up the place. What’s needed is a great big extension and a massive tower.
In fact, what was planned was a tower twice the height of Big Ben* and would have overwhelmed Parliament next door.
The expansion of  Westminster Abby had long been mooted as far back as the 1750s, and in 1854, George Gilbert Scott was asked to design a cloister extension, which would have been used to house the lower class monuments.
The proposals didn’t get anywhere, despite a resurrection of interest following the clearance of Parliament Square in 1868, and in 1891, a formal Royal Commission considered some more ideas, but did not make a decision. The matter gained more support following the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902, as the Abbey is surprisingly small once you get inside it.
A bit too small for big state events, it was getting smaller by the year. Inconveniently, it seemed that famous people will keep on dying after all. Thus, in 1904, the Diocesan Architect for London, John Pollard Seddon proposed a 167 metre tall tower in the gothic style to be built next to Westminster Abbey.
Seddon had previously suggested a couple of expansions, but it was his collaboration with the architect, Edward Lamb which was to produce the most controversial design.
The plans didn’t emerge newly formed though but were themselves an evolution of somewhat smaller plans for a national mausoleum in Hyde Park which would have become the centre for worshipping the memory of the great and famous.
The tower was however just part of a much wider complex which was to be added next to the Abbey, which would have included a Monumental Hall running nearly 200 feet in length alongside the Abbey.
The tower, which would have been the main centrepiece of the expansion would have been taller even than St Paul’s Cathedral, with the lower floors for use by the clergy, and the upper floors as an archive document store.
Another function was more political, and that was the opportunity to clear away the unsightly terraced housing that lined the roads at the time, in favour of more “imperial” architecture as was felt appropriate for the capital of the Empire.
Westminster Abbey was starting to lose out to St Pauls’ Cathedral as the main building for religious ceremonies, and wanted its place in the nation back. A monumental tower taller than St Paul’s was seen as the way to wrest back the public’s attention.
Contemporary with the plans for the Imperial Monumental Halls, were plans for a monument for the late Queen Victoria, and an Imperial Peace Memorial following the South African War. It seems that the architects of the Westminster Abbey scheme may have been hoping to usurp at least one of the two other schemes to secure funding for their plans.
As The Builder magazine noted, the tower would be 64ft square, and some 550 feet high, with a public walkway around the top. In addition, a new Central Hall of 192 feet in length with two new chapels for burials and a transept of 157 feet in length.
Overall, the plans would have doubled the floor space inside Westminster Abbey.
Unsurprisingly, once shown off the plans provoked howls of outrage. The Builder magazine wrote that there was “a little too much of ‘megalomania’ about it”
The fact that the plans were not submitted as part of a formal call for proposals, but as speculative architecture did not help their cause.
Fortunately, a lack of funds saw the plans quietly dropped
Today the spot where the tower would have loomed high is occupied by the considerably smaller statue of King George V.

60 Years of Doctor Who Anniversary Marathon - Hartnell 2nd Review
Set in Stone - Short Story
Tumblr media
Now this is more like it. I love Short Trips. Anthologies and short stories are perhaps my favorite expanded media to come out of Doctor Who.
Today’s story comes from Short Trips: The History of Christmas. As you may guess from the title the theme of the anthology collection is Christmas and it’s surrounding holidays. There’s actually quite a few such Yuletide themed anthologies within the franchise.
Tumblr media
This particular outing involves the First Doctor, Barbara, and Ian landing in Scotland in 1950, shortly after Susan has left them. What starts off as an extended holiday, to give them time to move on from their loss, turns into a heist caper to steal the coronation stone on Christmas day.
Apparently the story is based off a real event. On Christmas Day, 1950, four college students stole the Stone of Scone, a Scottish relic that was used for royal coronations for centuries, from Westminster Abbey where the English had stolen it centuries before to use in their own coronations. They had planned to return the stone to Scotland but accidentally broke the stone in half during the theft. They had a stone mason fix it and left the stone in Arbroath Abbey, a church in Scotland, where the English authorities just picked it back up anyways.
Since then the real stone has been returned to Scotland and rests with the Scottish crown jewels, but the English royalty still gets to ‘borrow’ it whenever they want to, like for King Charles recent coronation. I wonder how well that arrangement will work out if Scotland votes to become an independent country again.
Tumblr media
Anyways, back to the story. Barbara, Ian, and the Doctor replace the four students within the historical timeline of this retelling. However their reasons for doing so is less political and more extra-terrestrial. Turns out the stone is intelligent alien space rock and they’re rescuing it.
Tumblr media
What I really like about the short trips is that they don’t have to be these grand action packed adventures. Some are, but just as many are small character studies or world building exercises. This is a small, sweet story, where the most climatic, tension filled thing is a flat tire. Nothing is in danger of blowing up, no one dies, and the main conflict is whether or not Barbara and Ian want to continue traveling when they’re so close their own time; only 13 years too early.
It’s delightful. Utterly delightful, and I highly recommend it along with the rest of the anthology. Especially as Christmas nears.

Navigating the Key Trends in Temporary Fencing in New Westminster
Picture the skyline of New Westminster—a mosaic of cranes and scaffolding. It's a city’s landscape in motion, reflecting a surge in construction not seen in decades. Temporary fencing in New Westminster is more than just a precaution; it's a sign of growth and potential. Residential remodels, colossal commercial projects, and key infrastructure updates all share a common thread of necessity—the need for reliable temporary fencing.
From rebar-filled trenches to towering timber forms, these structures ensure that safety reigns supreme on-site while securing the dreams of architects and the sweat equity of hard-hat heroes—day in and day out. It's not just about demarcating boundaries; it's about protecting legacies in the making.
Events Re-Imagined
Flip through your social calendar and you'll find the people of New Westminster savouring the return of festivals, concerts, and community gatherings. Out in the open air, the spirit of the city comes alive, and integral to that joy is the unassuming presence of temporary fencing. Thoughtfully placed, these barriers orchestrate the flow of crowds, streamline access, and safeguard the collective experiences we cherish.
Event planners are now veering toward fencing options that are both functional and pleasing to the eye—no longer utilitarian, but part of the event's aesthetic. It's a celebration of practical beauty.
A Reflection of Public Consciousness
The echoes of recent years resonate deeply within New Westminster's community, reminding us of the profound impact public health measures have on lives and livelihoods. Temporary fencing has stepped up as a silent guardian of space—maintaining distance, guiding folks in queues, enclosing alfresco dining, or sketching out zones in parks where children and adults alike can unwind with peace of mind.
Businesses, schools, and public spaces are redefining their landscapes with temporary fences that are as versatile as they are vital, embodying municipal foresight in each interconnected panel.
The Innovation Infusion
Responding to these unfolding narratives, the fencing industry has leapfrogged to innovation, breathing adaptability and sustainability into their designs. Today, temporary fencing in New Westminster isn’t just about standing erect; it’s about blending with the environment, embodying the essence of environmental consciousness, and elevating security with features that present-day challenges necessitate.
Environment-friendly materials are essentially the next big thing on the local fencing landscape, aligning with New Westminster's green ethos, while advanced security integration assures that even as the world rests, vigilance does not.
Weave Your Story into the Mesh
The trends we observe today are more than just industry shifts—they're reflections of shared values and collective efforts. Perhaps you've witnessed the harmonious blend of a temporary fence at a neighbourhood block party or marvelled at the unyielding steel safeguarding a future community centre.
When you’re ready to explore the very best of what temporary fencing in Richmond has to offer, feel free to reach out to Total Site Services. We encourage you to meet us in person at your convenience. Together, we'll not just construct fences—we'll craft the framework of a community.

Micromuseology: An Analysis of Small Independent Museums by Fiona Candlin. LO1.
Week 6
The Importance of Small Museums and the Value of Specialist Knowledge and Collections:
Although some micromuseums are located in city and town centres, they are more usually on their outskirts of towns and perhaps most commonly in the countryside. They are rarely accessible by public transport and they have limited opening hours. pg.4 Micromuseums also resist detailed historical analyses. Unlike major museums, their exhibitions are not routinely discussed in the media and it is rare for them to have archives or even to document their collections in any way. pg.13 When the museum is about the local area or is linked to a particular community (or both) it can provide visitors with a point of entry to the concerns of that place or group. pg.182 In these spaces there are no clear boundaries between subjective and objective information and there is little distinction between personal and professional exchange, or between staff and visitors. The net result is that learning and pleasure emerge in the interactions between staff, visitors, and objects, often with surprising or moving or amusing or fascinating results. And, perhaps above all, I am given glimpses into particular worlds that I would never otherwise encounter. pg.183
Case Studies:
Writing on the National Museum of American History website, the education specialist Jenny Wei comments that ‘most history museums face the challenge of bringing objects to life’. 7 Her strategy involved one of the institution’s landmark exhibits, the John Bull locomotive, temporarily being put back into service. Museum staff, dressed in period costume, fired up the train and filmed it being driven along a track, subsequently using the video for an education programme aimed at school children. pg. 50-51 When the National Museum of Scotland ‘identified five subjects they wanted to bring to life’ they also organized hands-on events and designed interactive digital materials that provided background information for each exhibit. 8 The British Museum took a slightly different tack in their ‘Talking Objects’ programme which has been re-run in other UK museums. Focusing on a Neolithic bone carving known as ‘swimming reindeer’, young people from Westminster Kingsway College worked with curator Jill Cook ‘to take a closer look at this magical object. As part of this project the young people created a performance to bring the object to life’. pg.51

Time on the surface level of Mrs. Dalloway
Time and space are tightly knit as structural elements. The story spans one day and London is constantly called up through allusions to well-known places: Westminster, Bond Street, Regent’s Park, and Picadilly Circus. Space and time are closely linked. A day in Mrs Dalloway’s life Mrs. Dalloway is not old: she is 51. She is from the British ruling class. On the surface level, the day’s events…

I organized a symposium on menstrual equity in B.C. In it we explore topics beyond, place-based product solutions (ie tampons and pads in public bathrooms). We look at getting high quality disposable and reusable supplies to menstruators across the province, including reservations, remote areas and prisons. We also explore pain management, menopause, education and healthcare. Check out the links for more information. The inaugural 🩸BC's Menstrual Equity Symposium - Building Inclusive Period Poverty Solutions🩸, on October 20 & 21, 2023, at @DouglasCollege in New Westminster, BC. Over the past year, British Columbia has made significant strides in advancing menstrual equity. We are thrilled to invite you to a unique opportunity to come together, exchange knowledge, and support advocacy strategies for adoption by both government and the private sector. This two-day in-person symposium will delve into period poverty reduction strategies, break menstrual stigma, and explore innovative ways of distributing menstrual supplies and education through creative jam sessions, workshops, presentations, and panel discussions. It's a space where champions of menstrual equity, representing diverse backgrounds, will unite to learn from one another and explore ways to increase access in marginalized communities. The Symposium will also incorporate creative expression, such as artwork, a photovoice photography exhibition and music to destigmatize menstruation. Community members, advocates, activists, municipal workers, business leaders, decision makers, and everyone who menstruates are warmly invited to be part of this inspiring event. @DouglasCollege @FreePeriodsCanada Let's #EndPeriodPoverty together! 🩸 #BCMenstrualEquitySymposium #UnitedWayBC #MenstrualCycleResearchGroup#DouglasCollege
