okay rambles but i started creatively writing in like ... 5th grade? and. oh god just a little encouragement to anyone looking to get into writing or insecure or whatnot, but HELLS, maybe it's to he expected with my (obviously) very young age and inexperience with writing then, but my writing was really. yeah. Yeah. but then i'm what... a lot older now, obviously, and my writing has gotten leagues better. i'm probably not a good example for this bcs childhood years development stuff are different etc etc BUT practicing writing more and whatnot really does go a long way :]

I was planning to build new desktop this fall, but seeing that the winter half year practically chains me to bed making me incapable of sitting up I took some of my savings to get a laptop so I can have it in bed for drawing, writing etc at least. And so I'll save back up the coming months and build it once spring arrives instead (hopefully component prices has gone down then too)
All that to say I can only eat my hands as I catch glimpses of dawntrail news after having been ffxiv-less since july last year. my abstinence is out the roof

FFXIV Write 2023: Day 30 - Amity
Satella’s first love is a girl named Helena.
Back when she was only Amelia, she had arrived on the shores of Vylbrand sullen and quiet. She remembers those days well, of feeling as if all along something in her life had been missing – the spark that made life worth living – as she lived cloistered in Old Sharlayan and stifled by the presence of her mother and like-minded individuals. No one cared for little Amelia, who was always buried in the wrong kinds of books and would rather sneak out to badger the gleaners than dedicate her time to classwork. The adults had preferred to ignore her and so the children had soon learned to follow, leaving her be with her fantasy novels and lonely solitude.
She had liked it that way, she thought. All the way until Helena burst into her life like the first warm ray of summer sunshine. She had knocked on Aunt Zoya and Frederick’s door with a platter of cookies in one hand and holding on to her mother’s with the other, and well–
It was history, after that, and it went like this:
Amelia’s first love is a girl named Helena, a widow’s daughter with a father lost at sea and a brother too old to be comforted by tales. They meet in the wheat fields between their little family farms and run like beastkin through the golden stalks, hair bleached by the sun trailing behind them like the banners of oncoming ships. They herd livestock together and read periodicals and name themselves after the heroines in their favourite ones. They dance to all the tunes on the orchestrion in Helena’s bedroom and spend their nights stargazing shapes and stories into being on far too many evenings, even on the cold ones.
They fall in love slowly, into the kind of love birthed from friendship. It is gentle and sweet and soft. It is as all first loves should be.
It ends with Dalamud descending and Helena’s cold hand in hers, but Satella has learned to stop dreaming of the golden girl she’d loved so still and colourless. She chooses to remembers her first love more like this:
Satella’s first love was the neighbor’s daughter. Her name was Helena and Satella doesn't remember the shape of her face or even her laugh, anymore, but she remembers sun bleached hair and dark freckles and a warm hand in hers. She remembers the ocean breeze and songs in the air and sun-warmed ground beneath her back and a clear, starlit sky above.
She remembers the gift of friendship and of love given freely from a girl full of laughter and life, all to a girl who did not know how to laugh nor to live.

I figured I should introduce my self here sooo hi all I'm Seraph im part of a system im 25 and I go by He/They pronouns. I've been playing ffxiv since 2020 and run a few FCs on the Crystal DC but my main character and main FC are on Zalera. If you want to add any of my characters as friends or just want to chat feel free to message me I always respond to messages so feel free to reach out! Mostly in ffxiv I fish, RP and mess around with housing but my true love is gposing my OCs! Speaking of OC's ill make them their own pages sometime and update this post at a later date with more characters but ill put some info below the cut!
Meet Suzu! She's a young Au ra woman with a mysterious past who claims she came to La Noscea looking for her cartographer father. Since coming to the seaside region this little bookworm has built up quite the life for herself and is currently the headmaster at the prestigious Rose Academy. (Hiatus from RP due to Fanta)
Meet Osamu! He is Suzus brother and was also the villain in her story but after losing everything family included he started to long for the life he could have had if things were different from the start now hes off looking for his sister to try and set things right.
Meet Y'neli! She's the youngest of three and never far from one of her sisters. There's something otherworldly about her and she lives her life like everyday is her last. She's charming and flirty and always ends up with a crowd around her! She spends her days playing and writing music this world has never heard before.
Meet Hideki! He's a performer and has recently been passed down and made the leader of the Hikaru Performance Troupe. Following in his late mothers footsteps he is the star of Hikaru and has the attitude to match. Hes flirty and kinda rude but he's an alright guy deep down!
Meet Rhea! Rhea is a young dancer and seamstress form Thavnair who was one of the first entertainers Hideki scouted to be a part of Hikaru Performance Troupe. Now a dancer and costume designer for Hikaru Rhea loves to bring touches of Thavnair wherever the troupe preforms.
Meet T'wryn! Shes a street rat from Limsa who longs to see the world like the adventurers and sailors she meets on the ships shes so fascinated with. When the opportunity arose to join Hikaru as an acrobat she jumped at the chance and now she gets to make her own stories in the locations she's dreamt of for so long.
Meet Chika! She was a young farmer who dreamed of a bigger life. When she was recommended for a bartending job at a famous theater her whole world changed and now shes getting a taste for the nightlife she always dreamed of.

Only 2 short shippy prompts all month! All 4 modern girls got a couple spotlights, various family cameos and backstories, a future prompt as is tradition, Zaine had a few posts, a few NPC-only scenes, a LOT of Endwalker, and even Ancient Icarus got a story, tying into 2021's "Destruct" prompt and how/why the siblings' souls have been connected through time and reincarnations.
A few of these are alternate takes on scenes I've touched on before, but it's interesting what a new prompt at a different time can get one to say, how we change as writers in what we focus on and how we say it.
This comes in roughly 300 words shorter than last year, at 18,493. The week of the 18-22 I had off work for my birthday, and that had the most 1k+ prompts, with a word count nearly double the other 3 full weeks. While the longer prompts are good, I'm really happy with how so many of the short ones turned out!
I was again trying to be realistic about my time, energy, not pushing free write days...and also working on an original writing project on the side, so I actually did do more writing over the month, just not FFXIV related!
(Also why some of my responses were in just under the wire...)
But this was a good break and exercise from that other writing, and let me try a few new things.
And comparing to earlier years--especially 2017 and 2018 when I was getting back onto the writing horse and feeling out my OCs--I feel like my growth as a writer, especially to be more succinct yet still evocative when needed, is evident. I've gotten a lot of practice in over time, and this challenge is one of the things that helped me get to where I can write an original story on top of my fanfic!
Breakdowns for funsies:
Longest: 21 Grave; 1,652 words
Shortest: 14 Clear; 106 words
Between 100-500 words: 1 Envoy; 2 Bark; 4 Off the Hook; 5 Barbarous; 7 Noisome; 8 Shed; 14 Clear; 15 Portentous; 26 Last; 27 Sole.
Between 500-1000 words: 6 Ring; 11 Once Bitten, Twice Shy; 13 Check; 16 Jerk; 18 Fish Out of Water; 22 Fulsome; 23 Suit; 25 Call it a Day; 28 Blunt; 29 Contravention; 30 Amity.
1000+ words: 9 Fair; 12 Dowdy; 19 Weal; 20 Hamper; 21 Grave.
I didn't look at the totals until the end; I only checked some of the shorter ones during the challenge to see if they hit my personal "500+ words" cut off for adding a Read More to the posts.
"Grave" honestly could have been a lot shorter; I started the plot too early, and much as I like Zaine making one last visit to his childhood Nana, for the purposes of the challenge, I could have just focused on going to the lichyard to save myself time and energy, and wrote about the visit on my own another time. On the other hand, it's done now!
Not sure which is a favorite; there's a lot I like.
As usual, these will be revised at...some point (some more than others, probably) and added to Ao3, in my various series and threads.

FFXIV Write 2023: Master Post & Round Up!
Seven years of FFXIV Write in the bag! Whether this is your first year or your seventh, whether you wrote seven words or seven thousand, GOOD JOB, EVERYONE! And a thank you, as always, to @sea-wolf-coast-to-coast for continuing to host and provide prompts for us year after year.
As with last year, I will not be checking my word count or any other sort of stats; I ended up focusing on that in past years to my detriment, and the point of this challenge is to have fun! It's enough for me that I wrote every day. :D
BUT! October is here--and that it means it's time for my own personal challenge: FFXIV Edit! The heart of FFXIV Write is just to write, regardless of mistakes or roughness, but I do like to go back and revisit my ideas and see if my brain wants to put some more polish on my entries. So, throughout October, I will continue my tradition of posting each of my prompts to AO3 once a day and take the time to give them an edit or expansion or rewrite as I see fit.
Happy FFXIV Write, everyone! And now: THE MASTER POST!

sorry if this has been asked before, but how did you get the idea to make bp and how did you create the different story lines for each character? I love your game and it's inspired me to want to make a small otome game of my own but I have no idea how to carry it out, any tips?
hope you are having a wonderful day
hi! i have indeed answered this before. but i'll give you a reply!
i played a VN in early 2020 that rejuvenated my love for storytelling -- i'd lost it a bit since starting my career and "climbing the ladder." I got heavily involved in a fan community for that VN, and decided I wanted to try my hand making a game that could give people the same emotions i felt while playing the game and interacting with the community -- so! a game about a fan community. made it an otoge bc i'm obsessed with those a bit
the storylines all sort of came from real interactions i've had in discord servers.
the quest storyline specifically came from an interaction i had with someone who explained why he had to disappear from a server for a while and it really shocked me -- showed me that the people on the other side of the screen really can be struggling with things we can't really imagine on our own.
nightowl's storyline came from a combo of certain arguments i'd seen in the server and my own relationship with my family.
toaster's storyline came from me staring at the bot on top of every server i was in and thinking "hm. what if those things are actually watching us?" i was also lightly inspired by mountain of discord friends over the years that have tried to force feed me FFXIV.
xyx's storyline came from me and my editor's experience with certain people in discord who just wanted to be left alone, as well as our own personal experiences with putting on fronts.
if you take anything from that, write what you know and write from the heart. people will recognize you in the text and it will leave a mark on their hearts.

ffxivwrite collections
i am probably not going to take a very active part in ffxivwrite this year for a lot of personal reasons (i'm not going to stop writing ffxiv fic, i've just been busy and dealing with ongoing health problems this year) so instead i am linking my older works here for anyone who wishes to read them!
a lot of things in my writing and my longfic plans have changed from when i wrote some of these, but ffxivwrite has always made for very good writing exercises and has even helped me solidify backstory for my WoL, so i've left them up to that end.
collection 1, sept 2019: tales of radiance
collection 2, sept 2020: above the tide of hours
collection 3, sept 2021: the cold heavens (still in progress as this was written while i was actively in the middle of moving out of texas ;; but tbh this collection has some of my personal favorites so i'm very fond of it still!)
collection 4, sept 2022: my tale again for me shall sing (largely wol-centric backstory)

i wave my wand & command u to speak on hopeless, a fic that has lived in my bookmarks for time immemorial.
ohhhhh thank youuu!!! hopeless was my first wolgraha fic! It was based on 10 kiss prompts that I decided to make loosely related and kind of flesh out a story for my WoL. I was just going along cheerfully enjoying FFXIV until Shadowbringers but idk man several things about that part of the story just have my number on speed dial you know! I was like okay I’m gonna have to write for this to get the rocks out of my brain, ergo I’m gonna have to actually develop an OC.
I pretty much made Adrienne specifically to ship her w/ G’raha so I find it extremely funny a. how quickly I became attached to her for her own sake and b. how I feel her chemistry w/ other characters developed since she was initially conceptualized to complement G’raha specifically LOL. I previously had a hard time “bonding” with my own OCs and I feel this really marked a turning point in that regard where I was able to focus in on character ideas that really appealed to me enough to form that connection, if that makes sense.
There’s also like a huge gap in my AO3 works from March 2020 until January 2021 when I started writing for FFXIV. I remember I kept wanting to say something about what I was going through at the time and how I was feeling about my writing and about writing generally, but anything I tried to say barely made any sense because I think I didn’t even know what was going on with me. There was a period of time where I felt like maybe I just wouldn’t write anymore because I didn’t have it in me. Nothing inspired me, and nothing I had been working on pre-pandemic even remotely appealed to me anymore. I felt like it had been written by someone else.
In retrospect, it makes perfect sense, right? But it was hard to understand the feeling from the middle of it. And I didn’t want to be cold or disrespectful to the people who have loved my work over the years, but I also couldn’t find a good way of venting my frustration about how I was feeling, so I think I often ended up coming off that way despite my best intentions.
So my main goal in doing the kiss prompts was to not angst about them too much, to just get them done without much editing, and to write something fairly different from what I usually wrote in the past. I felt like it would be a good challenge for me because as I mentioned I really love unresolved tension and agonizing slow burn, but I think maybe I love it too much LOL, so sometimes when it finally came time for the culmination of the tension I would freeze up because I had built it up so much that I was afraid the payoff wouldn’t be good enough! Ten shortish prompts where they literally had to kiss felt like a perfect low-stress challenge to help shake my brain loose on this very specific issue, and for that reason I think it’s very sweet and pleasant to read where a lot of my other work is more fraught and angsty LOL.
I really don’t even know if this dialogue feels particularly in character, I was straight up just calling myself out for a laugh:
A dull terror is beginning to take root in her heart, the one that has borne the loss of countless others, the one that has already lost him twice over, and she searches her mind frantically for something to say, something that will keep her from spoiling the moment with things she can’t do anything about.
“Is that your idea of a proper courtship?” she wonders, instead, trying at a teasing tone.
G’raha looks up. “Is it not to your liking?” he counters. “If you’d prefer, I could go and sit across the room.”
“You’ll do no such thing!” Adrienne tightens her grip on him instinctively.
G’raha’s grin widens, and his tone turns dramatic. “Perhaps in a few months, our hands will brush, and I’ll write you a sad letter about it.”
“I hate you so much.” Adrienne laughs weakly, but she cannot bring herself to loosen her grip on him, lest he slip away from her yet again in her negligence.
“I don’t think that’s true,” says G’raha pleasantly.
It’s funny, now that my life is like pretty normal and okay again, I’m back to mostly liking fraught and angsty things, but at the time I feel my personal life was so bad that I really needed sweet and pleasant in my escapism!

Get to know me!
tagged by @elveny, let's see if I can get this done before I have to get out of bed (someone play me the world's smallest violin)
Share your wallpaper: So my PC is set to cycle through my XIV screenshot folder as its wallpaper, so here's my Chromebook (where I do all my writing) and my phone (where I do all my blogging) wallpapers instead!
A lovely comm from thetictactician on Twitter on my Chromebook!
and this amazing comm on my phone from Hollycircling on Twitter, I can't believe she indulged me and went this fucking hard but she did this. In a week.
The last song you listened to: Warrior by Beth Crowley (this is such a Jess song tbh)
Currently Reading: Ok... so... I actually haven't read any sort of published novel since... 2011, with A Storm of Crows I think? So I used to read a shit ton, but it was 11th grade and my friends were like 'You're still reading kids books? Read something for grown ups instead' (I was rereading Percy Jackson at the time, my beloved). So I gave it a try with a 'grown up' fantasy series and... fuck GoT it was awful and I decided if that's what adult literature was like, I didn't want any part of it. So I quit reading entirely.
Last Movie: Bullet Train, months ago. I don't like watching movies - I'm huge into the behind the scenes stuff, cinematography, lighting, direction, costume design etc etc so it makes it hard to watch movies when my brain won't stop analyzing and criticizing everything (honestly modern cinema is so full of people just 'sending it' for the next big paycheck, the heart is just gone). But my husband insisted I watch this one and you know what? It was actually really well made, I was impressed.
Craving: More time. More time to finish these cosplays (Twelve have mercy the con is in a week and a half), more time to write, more time to decompress. Also craving a Chromebook/laptop/portable writing device that doesn't freeze when I type more than 5 letters in a row...
What are you wearing right now: My nightgown! (still in bed) It's got penguins on it and it's fucking adorable.
How tall are you: 5'5, idk what that is in the rest of the world. Americans, y'know.
Piercings: None, but I bought some super cute Ascian earrings last year and I've been really tempted to get my earlobes pierced.
Tattoos: None, not my thing but totally cool for everyone else!
Glasses? Contacts?: Lasik! Totally worth if you can do it.
Last drink: Choccy milk (I am an adult)
Last show: Last narrative-focused show? Uhhhhhh.... I watched the first season of The Walking Dead in 2012 and I legit can't think of anything more recent. I just don't enjoy watching things much, I'd rather be doing something, and I'm such a snob when it comes to screenwriting/characters that most things just don't appeal to me. Other than that the last non-scripted show I watched was Restaurant: Impossible.
Last thing you ate: An oatmeal chocolate chip cookie my sister made last night.
Favourite colour: Wine/burgundy! That deep, dark, blood red with just a hint of purple (in case you couldn't tell since it's the color my WoL wears in every outfit)
Current obsession: FFXIV lol
Unrelated Obsession: Unrelated? I'd say writing but that's kind of related... So, horses? I mean that's just always my obsession.
Any pets: Uh... yeah. I myself have two horses. And then... we have a shit ton of cats. So in 2020 strays kept showing up at our house and then they'd have babies, eventually we managed to catch them all and get them fixed and now some of them have chosen to move in. Shelters are full all across the state, rescues and fosters are full. So now we have... 10 cats that live inside (it's a large house) and then another six/seven that are still feral outside but fixed at least. Nothing much we can do about it, but keeping them inside keeps them safe and saves the wildlife outside, too.
Do you have a crush on anyone: An eternal crush on my husband. He's just amazing. Soft. Adorable. Handsome. Perfect. Goofy. Gorgeous. Smart. Creative. Loving. So many more words. 12 years together in May!
Favourite fictional character: Assuming player characters/WoLs don't count, Elena Fisher from Uncharted. She was the first female character I encountered who was just... normal. Not a token female, not sexualized eye candy, not walking boobs without a personality, she was... a real person, a real character in her own right, whose gender didn't change who she was. And I fell in love with that back in 2007 (I was in middle school then, so it was kind of a big deal for me). She only got better as the years went by, I still love her.
The last place you traveled: Depends on your definition of 'travel'. On a literal sense probably Portland, but since both that and Seattle are practically in my backyard I don't really count those. Other than that, Philadelphia I think, for a wedding.
TAGGING! Oh so many people should do this. Off the top of my head, if you'd like to... @ainyan, @mimble-sparklepudding, @boggleoflight, @tallbluelady, @humblemooncat, @dragoon-mid-jump, @otherworldseekers, @aethericfist and now I'm out of time and have to get ready for work so anyone else who sees this! Sorry I was tagging in a hurry, I know a lot of you are character/RP blogs so feel free to ignore.

Perhaps I should take a break from fandom writing (zines, fandom weeks) for a bit. Not only do I need to focus on my irl right now, but if there's anything writing my fauxlore piece taught me is that writing for myself - writing somewhat original stuffs - feels very self-rewarding--
--I say that even as I stare at the blank pages of various projects 😅 but thing is, when I look at those blank pages, the words just won't come. I've been looking at my AO3 statistics lately and between 2017-2019 I only posted like...6-8 ish fics a year? Compared to 2020-2021 where I kept pumping out fics every month or so which eventually led me to a burn out. I also feel that my fics from 2017-2019 were received better. Different fandoms might have come into play there, but it still brought to mind the quality vs quantity of my works. I will say that I think my skills have improved thanks to that but I also think that if I keep pushing myself to write for every event I come across, I'll only stagnate and burn myself out again.
So... While I still want to write for several events, perhaps I should focus on my personal projects now - namely my FFXIV longfic or maybe some of my original stuffs? (I also have a couple LnDS brainrots and I sorely miss writing Natsume). I've been reading the Accomplishments of a Duke's Daughter LNs and it made me think about my OCs. Maybe it'll help me dig into myself again because somewhere along the way, I think I've forgotten what it means to write for myself.

Name: Soji
Pronouns: She/her
Birthday (no year): October 14
Where are you from? What is your time zone? United States. Both my parents are from South Korea. East coast resident (EST)
Roleplay experience: A little over 13 years of roleplay experience
Got any pets? One chinchilla affectionately dubbed Souji Man and a 'Shavanese' dog (short-haired Havanese) named Happy
Favorite time of year: Autumn
Some interests and things you like: The holy trinity of cosplaying, writing, and drawing
Some fun facts & trivia about you:
— I joined TOA during the peak of Covid quarantining in 2020 when there was a huge convention dry spell. The indie roleplay scene for Fire Emblem during this time was uneventful too. Having no productive outlet for cosplaying or writing, it lead me to join my first RP group which was (jazz hands) TOA
— My zodiac animal is a rabbit
— I have hundreds upon hundreds of hours clocked on Super Smash Bros from Brawl to Ultimate. You'll never guess who I main.
What non-Fire Emblem games do you play? Final Fantasy XIV, Project Zomboid, Phasmophobia, Touken Ranbu, and Stardew Valley in order of frequency.
Favorite Pokemon type & Pokemon: I like bug types; my favorite Pokemon is Scizor. While not Pokemon my favorite Digimon, Kabuterimon, is also a bug. Honorable mention goes to Greninja.
How did you get into Fire Emblem? Saw Shadow Dragon in my local Gamestop one day and didn't buy it even though it stuck out to me with its somber and less colorful boxart. Next time I saw a Fire Emblem game in the store, i.e., Awakening, I bought and played it. The rest is history.
What Fire Emblem games have you played? If we're talking start-to-end I've played and finished FE1, FE3, FE7, FE9, FE11, FE12, Awakening, SOV, 3H, and Engage. The remaining games in the series I've played to either early or mid game.
First Fire Emblem game: Awakening
Favorite Fire Emblem game: FE11 Shadow Dragon
Any Fire Emblem crushes? FE7 Rath was my first and only concrete FE crush. Marth was initially more of an aesthetic source of admiration though knowing his character better he likely exemplifies the ideal partner. Similar to Marth he's not really a crush, but right now I think a lot about Rafal, ironically less in the realm of looks or perfection and more at his attractive hot-and-cold personality.
If you’ve played the following games, who was your first S support? - Awakening: Chrom - Fates: Kaden was my forecast - Three Houses: Dimitri - Engage: Alfred
Favorite Fire Emblem class: Dracoknight
If you were a Fire Emblem character, what would be your class? Archer. My first class in FFXIV was an archer and my FE tastes will reflect that too.
If you were a Three Houses character, what would be your affiliation? Blue Lions
If you were an Engage character, which Emblem would you Engage with? Marth. Need me a princely ghost boyfriend I mean advisor with a good head on his shoulders.
How did you find TOA? Through Fire Emblem roleplay related tags
Current TOA muses: Marth and Rafal
Who was your first TOA muse? If you don’t have them anymore, could you see yourself picking them up again? Marth is my ride or die Fire Emblem character and that extends to him as a muse.
Have you had any other TOA muses? Besides Marth and Rafal I've also written Xane. Though there isn't a lot of data, my second muse slot historically (and presently) being reserved for dragons tickles me a lot.
Do you think you have a type of character you gravitate towards? Not really. My tastes are unexplainably versatile. I can favor the sweet and friendly golden boy type characters, or the less pristine and morally ambiguous "bad boy" types, and everything in-between. This isn't just true for TOA but also for characters from different series. My friends have a lot of trouble forecasting possible favorites for me because of it.
What do you believe you enjoy writing the most? Emotions. Conflict with those emotions. Mwahahahaha
Favorite TOA-related memory: The first few months into my TOA debut when everything was bright, fresh, and new. Meeting new friends and forging bonds with other characters was super fun and I still remember who was around me during that time. Farina (written by Maxie) is the closest muse to Marth in terms of when they joined TOA and who has stayed to this day.
Got any delusions that didn’t see the light of day in TOA that you’d like to share? I tend to be very stable, loyal, and proactive in my delusions. If they're strong enough I pursue them, like Xane and Rafal. Rath would be among them if I ever replayed FE7 and if I determined having three muses wouldn't make my performance suffer over all.
