Today's highlight at the psychiatrist:
She said: "Maybe you can think about doing a psychosomatic rehab, as things go it'll be necessary anyway before it comes to invalidity allowance." (which is generally true)
She continues: "It can't hurt in any case"
to which I almost said: except this could royally fuck me over with me ending up a nursing case for the rest of my life
(which I did NOT say, but next week I have an appointment with the GP at which I hope she'll help me with the remaining diagnosis of exclusion... IF I need to do some rehab program a psychosomatic one is virtually useless for me, I'd just have to do it all over again in another program and hope the above doesn't occur in the process. Our health system is not made for chronic illness or disability, it's made for short term sicknesses orz)

5 Common Questions About Medical Certificates Answered
Medical certificates are documents signed by registered doctors to confirm illness, injury or other health conditions. They provide evidence if you need time off work or study, government assistance or travel support.
For Australians, medical certificates play an important role in health management and accessing various services and entitlements. But if you’re unfamiliar with using medical certificates, you probably have quite a few questions.
Here we answer 5 of the most frequently asked questions to help demystify the ins and outs of medical certificates in Australia:
1. When do I need a medical certificate?
The most common situations where medical certificates are required or recommended include:
– Taking sick leave from work for 2+ days in a row
– Returning to work at reduced hours or duties after illness/injury
– Applying for Centrelink payments like Disability Support Pension
– Booking travel assistance like wheelchair access
– Obtaining subsidised prescription medications
– Confirming pregnancy due dates for flights
– Avoiding travel vaccinations that could harm you
– Insurance claims for income protection or trauma policies
So anytime your health affects your work, study, travel or welfare access, a relevant medical certificate can help verify your circumstances.
2. What details are included?
While there are different types, medical certificates normally specify:
– Your personal details — name, DOB, address
– Issue date
– Applicable dates of duration
– General description of the medical condition — e.g. ‘respiratory illness’
– Capacity to work or study
– Specific limitations or assistance required
– Doctor’s signature and stamp
More detailed certificates may be needed for insurance claims or Centrelink payments.
3. Can any doctor issue one?
Medical certificates can only be issued by registered medical practitioners — GPs, specialists, surgeons, dentists, pharmacists, nurses and psychologists.
For sick leave notes, your regular GP can issue a certificate.
For Centrelink claims, certificates may need to be from a Government-approved assessor. Some insurers also require specialists’ certificates for claims.
4. How much do they cost?
There’s no set fee — costs vary by the doctor and type of certificate:
– Standard sick leave notes are usually bulk-billed — no cost
– More detailed certificates may cost $30–60
– Centrelink assessor certificates tend to cost more
If the certificate is for insurance claims, costs may be covered by your insurer.
Ask your doctor in advance if there will be any charge to avoid surprise bills.
5. How do I submit certificates?
Most employees simply hand or email sick leave certificates to their manager or HR department to support leave requests.
For insurance claims, you submit certificates along with the claim forms directly to the insurance company.
Centrelink certificates must be submitted online or through myGov to support your welfare applications.
Keep the original copy for your records if needed later. And be sure to get the certificate before taking any leave or making claims so your evidence is ready upfront.
Using Medical Certificates with Confidence
By understanding when medical certificates are required, what’s included and how the process works in Australia, you can use them confidently.
If you need time off for health reasons or want to access subsidised support, medical certificates validate your situation and entitlements. Just be sure to get the right type of certificate from a registered practitioner tailored to your specific needs.
With your genuine certificate from a doctor, you can take warranted leave, claim benefits you’re entitled to or arrange assisted travel and medication fairly. Certificates make managing health needs and impacts much clearer for employers, government agencies and travel providers as your evidence.
So don’t hesitate to ask your doctor for a medical certificate when genuinely needed — it’s your key to accessing a range of services and provisions that can help support your health and wellbeing when it really counts.

forgettable day
She had the flu. But couldn’t not go into work. She’s used up her sick days earlier in the year and the company she worked for was a bit regime-like if you called off; had to get a note from the doctor, etc, and the GPs were still backed up from the pandemic, and the certificate things they gave you cost 40 quid … etc, etc. Blah blah; and the office had been heaving all morning and afternoon with the colleagues all stressed and shouting because it was nearing Christmas time. And the Lemsip she had didn’t really work and it tasted awful so she stopped with that. And she had a history with alcohol in her twenties and thus didn’t take paracetamol anymore (or drink, for that matter, thank God). So – altogether – when she got the Metro train home, she felt like total crap. She got home to her flat and fed her cat. And ate a sandwich and managed a few bites before she switched the TV on and lay on her couch and pulled a blanket over her. And dozed. The volume was low on the TV and she didn’t care what was on and she went into that sub-land between wakefulness and sleep. The programme finished. And there were adverts, with their nippy voices that she’d always hated; but she was too ill to reach for the controller to shut it up. So just lay there … Until a new programme started. It was a film, actually; the announcer woman said the title and she didn’t recognise it. Keeping her eyes closed, she listened to the movie. There were sounds of a car driving. And then it stopped and a door opened and feet, boots, went over a sandy area. And she opened her eyes and turned over and watched the screen: a man was walking towards this DINER, in the desert somewhere. So it must be in America. The man went into the diner … and this song came on when he went in. It was playing in the background in the film. And she knew the song! Beach Boys. It wasn’t integral to the plot, or anything. And not especially loud; but she heard it. She hadn’t heard this Beach Boys tune in, wow, fifteen years: and yet that catchy brilliant melody startled her and sent this flood of warm familiarity through her. She hummed along. And forgot all about the forgettable day.

Ohhh my god this bitch manager at work who consistently inserts herself in every stores business throughout the local area for no reason because no store will endure having her as their actual store manager is STILL trying it with me. I took 2 days off because I had a cold and would have been of no help to anyone, something which with my current store manager and fellow assistant store manager is no big deal whatsoever, and she demanded a medical certificate for my absence, KNOWING it’s extremely difficult to get a back-dated medical certificate in Australia. Like she really thought that she’d sand-bag me and make me forfeit 2 days of my own accrued personal leave when I was legitimately sick because I didn’t go to a GP and pay $100 to have him say “yes he’s sick, here is the piece of paper that says so, please pay him”.
Like she TRIED so hard to fuck with me, but I hope she opens her emails tomorrow morning IN FRONT OF ME with a back-dated certificate legitimately obtained today and is forced to pay me while I sit 3 feet away from her physically oozing an ectoplasmic film of resentment.
You think you’re 1 step ahead of me NICOLE, but I am fucking 10 ahead of you. Go fuck yourself.

Anti-Vaxxers I know.
Well the particular person I am thinking of I knew quite some time ago. She is my ex-sister-in-law. My brother divorced her years ago which bankrupted him, and left him only with the satisfaction that he was free of her. They had two now adult children a son and a daughter.
The son was a PO in the US Navy and did several tours in the Persian Gulf including a stint as a Marine Corps Sergeant. His navy rank was equal to Sergeant and he was a qualified medic so the wet navy loaned him to the grunts.
The daughter just had a son of her own so my brother is now a grandfather.
So now on to my ex-s-i-l the anti-vaxxer. She was and is more than a little strange. She is not stupid as she has a University Degree in English and worked for years as a technical manual writer. But she has an amazing ability to not think. If she hears an opinion from someone on something she files it away in her head as another thing she does not have to ever think about.
When she was young she heard someone her dad knew say that Volvos were good cars. Back then they were reliable, tough, and solid safe cars. I think they invented seat belts. Well after that she would refuse to own any other car brand. When my brother wanted a sporty car he got a Toyota, but she refused to ride in it. He was sick of Volvos.
When the young couple were going to build their dream home she found a contractor that someone said was really good. She gave him a big deposit on the work and he disappeared with the money. She refused to believe that it happened, and he would get back and start the job real soon. Never did.
When her mother had a fight with her older sister she would have nothing to do with her for the rest of her life. She objected to her coming to her wedding as she was an enemy. I met her there, and she was very nice, pretty, and did not ride a broom to the event as I was told she would.
My brother went to visit his new descendant and his daughter made sure he was fully vaccinated for all the current nasties in the world. He was so prepared. He lives in Australia where they take health care seriously you know. He was told that his ex was not permitted to visit as she refused to get any vaccines. The new mom inherited some of her mom's stubbornness, but in a good way. No shots no visits.
Good for her. Protect your baby with your life from stupid people.
Volvo girl has even bought into the Bill Gates microchip nonsense. I mean she used to work with engineers and she thinks Moderna is shooting GPS receivers into your blood. Physically impossible nano-bullshit.
So in exchange for being a stubborn misguided person she shall never meet her only grandchild. Sort of basic justice there. I am sure she will never admit her error. I can see her forging vaccination certificates. Maybe even kidnapping. She is that far gone.
Were it not for vaccines there would be a lot fewer live people in the world and many would be crippled. When we were young even kids knew the risks of not getting vaccinations. Now all it takes is a former Porn Actress to blame her child's problem on an imagined vaccine issue rather than her own drug use. Add the social media algorithms that bring bad ideas together with stupidity and here we are.
Volvo girl is not alone. My wife's oldest and dearest friend is a degreed Nurse. She worked in an emergency room, was a small community health administrator, and has all the outward appearance of a smart qualified professional. And she told my wife don't get those vaccines! She read on Brietbart that it was all a global conspiracy blah, blah, blah. This person should know better. But she is easy to persuade to do the wrong things. I could go on to list her ex-boyfriends and a husband as perfect wrong choices.
Some people hear some idea that they like and that is it. Rigid thinking unable to fit in new or better information. Why they pick this or that is a mystery, but once set it is in stone. Stone headed thinking.
This is a symptom of our age. Our age is sick.

Who's Who In Mental Health Service - GPs, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, CPNs And Allied Therapists
At the point when an individual is encountering mental or personal hardships (henceforth called "emotional wellness issues"), they might well go to their GP. The GP will meet with them and in view of the nature and seriousness of the people side effects may either suggest treatment himself or allude the individual on to a trained professional.
There can appear to be a confusing exhibit of such subject matter experts, all with rather comparative titles, and one can ponder concerning why they've been alluded to one expert instead of another. In this article I give a framework of the capabilities, jobs and run of the mill working styles of these subject matter experts.
Best Psychiatrist in Jaipur
This might hold any importance with any individual who is going to, or previously seeing, these trained professionals.
The General Practitioner
Albeit not a psychological wellness subject matter expert, the GP is a typical first contact for those with emotional well-being issues. A GP is a specialist who has a physician certification (typically a five-year course) and has finished a one-year "pre-enrollment" period in an overall emergency clinic (a half year on a careful ward and a half year on a clinical ward as a "lesser house official").
Following this a GP has finished various half year positions in different clinic based specialities - normal decisions incorporate obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry or potentially broad medication. At long last, a year is spent in everyday practice as a "GP enlistment center" under the oversight of a senior GP.
During this period, most specialists will take assessments to acquire the expert capability of the Royal College of General Practitioners ("Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners", or MRCGP). Others capabilities, like recognitions in kid wellbeing, may likewise be gotten.
The GP is in this way a specialist with a great many abilities and experience, ready to perceive and treat a large number of conditions. Obviously the need of this extensive variety of involvement puts limits on the profundity of information and abilities that they can obtain.
OCD Treatment
Consequently, in the event that a patient's condition is uncommon or, convoluted, or especially extreme and requiring clinic based treatment, then, at that point, they will allude that patient on to a subject matter expert.
Zeroing in on emotional wellness issues it will be noticed that while most of GP's have finished a six-month position in psychiatry, such a situation isn't necessary for Gp's. In any case, emotional wellness issues are a typical justification for going to the GP and, in this way, GP's will generally gain a ton of involvement "at work".
Most GP's vibe ready to analyze and treat the normal psychological wellness issues like melancholy and uneasiness. The medicines will commonly comprise of recommending prescription (like antidepressants or anxiolytics) in the primary case.
In the event that these are incapable, elective prescription might be attempted, or they might allude the patient to a trained professional. GP's are bound to allude a patient to an expert right away in the event that their condition is serious, or they are self-destructive, or they are encountering "crazy" side effects like mental trips and hallucinations.
Anxiety Treatment
The Psychiatrist
This is a completely qualified specialist (having a practitioner training in addition to one year pre-enrollment year in everyday clinic) who has spent significant time in the finding and treatment of emotional well-being issues.
Most therapists begin their mental preparation promptly following their pre-enrollment year thus have restricted insight in different areas of actual sickness (albeit some have prepared as GP's and afterward changed to psychiatry sometime in the future).
Subsequent to getting this capability, the specialist embraces a further three-year expert preparation position as a "Expert Registrar" or SpR. Right now the specialist picks which area of psychiatry to have practical experience in - General Adult Psychiatry, Old Age Psychiatry and so on - and his arrangements are chosen fittingly.
There could be no further assessments, and following effective culmination of this three-year time frame, the specialist gets a "Endorsement of Completion of Specialist Training" or CCST. He can now be named as a Consultant Psychiatrist.
Depression Treatment
The above is a regular profession way for a specialist. Notwithstanding, there are a rising number of occupation titles out with the SHO-SpR-Consultant rubric. These incorporate such titles as "Staff Grade Psychiatrist" and "Partner Specialist in Psychiatry".
The specialists with these titles have shifting capabilities and levels of involvement. Some might have the MRCPsych yet not the CCST (regularly, these are the Associate Specialists); others might have neither or just piece of the MRCPsych (many Staff Grades).
Specialists of any level or occupation title will have critical involvement with the conclusion and treatment of individuals with emotional well-being challenges, and all (except if themselves an expert) will be managed by an expert.
Specialists have specific expertise in the determination of emotional wellness issues, and can by and large give a more point by point conclusion (for example what the condition is) and forecast (for example how the condition changes after some time and answers treatment) than a GP.
The specialist is likewise in a superior situation to get to other emotional well-being subject matter experts (like Psychologists and Community Psychiatric Nurses or CPNs) when required. They additionally approach ongoing and day patient administrations for those with extreme emotional well-being issues.
The backbone of treatment by a specialist is, as with Gp's, medicine. Notwithstanding, they will be additional accomplished and certain about recommending from the whole scope of mental meds - a few drugs (like the antipsychotic Clozapine) are just accessible under mental management and others (like the state of mind stabilizer Lithium) are seldom endorsed by GP's without speaking with a specialist first.
A specialist, generally speaking, doesn't offer "talking medicines" like psychotherapy, mental treatment or directing. The last option might be accessible "in-house" at the GP medical procedure - a few medical procedures utilize a guide to whom they can allude straightforwardly.
Clinicians and united psychological well-being staff commonly give the more escalated talking treatments. Some senior psychological wellness medical caretakers and CPNs will have been prepared in unambiguous talking treatments. It is to a Psychologist or a prepared medical caretaker that a specialist will allude a patient for talking treatment.
These treatments are reasonable for specific circumstances and for nobody else - for the most part, conditions, for example, Schizophrenia and psychosis are less suitable for these treatments than the not so much serious but rather more typical circumstances, for example, wretchedness, uneasiness, post-awful pressure issue, phobia(s) and addictions. By and large, a patient will be endorsed both medicine and a talking treatment - in this manner they might be seen by both a specialist and a therapist throughout their treatment.

Hey, I've had my name changed by deed poll for over a year now (a year last January)
I can't seem to get it changed on everything. They've only just changed it at my GP. It's still in my dead name on my ID and passport. I was told I had to have a psychiatric assessment and then pay £200 to change my passport. When I tried to change my ID, they told me I had to use the name on my passport. My name is legally changed. I had no issues with my Bank.
I don't know what to do. They still refer to me as Miss in my GP and when I tried to explain - they just gave me a sick note and told me to google therapy.
Do you have any advice? I will take anything at this point.
Hi Anon,
You should have no issues changing your name using your deed poll on all of your documents (apart from your birth certificate). This is all that is legally required for updating your name.
You mention ‘they’ but don’t say who you are referring to. Whoever ‘they’ are, they are not providing you with accurate information and you DO NOT have to have any medical assessments to change your name. You will pay the same fee for anyone that needs a new passport (£85 the last time I checked, but may be slightly more).
You can fill out application forms for both your driving license and passport (both available at your local post office) these are the same forms for anyone updating their names on these documents for other reasons.
Paper applications are the best way to do it as often online this can’t be done.
Your GP surgery is also being very unhelpful by the sounds of it. All they need is your name change document and they can update your records. Referring to you as Miss is totally unacceptable and illegal for them to refer to you like this. You can either write a letter of complaint to your GP surgery about your treatment or you can complain to your local NHS board to highlight how you are being treated. Alternatively you may want to change GP surgeries as you really need a good supportive GP for this process and if they are being this difficult at this early stage, it is likely it will just get worse.
We have lots of posts on changing your name on your documents so have a read through these and you’ll see what documents you’ll be asked for.
It sounds like you’ve been getting some very inaccurate advice so hopefully our posts will be more helpful for you.

I spoke to my employer about my chronic illness. It went well and I feel incredibly relieved being open about it for the first time in my life. No more tip toeing.
Sometimes it's not obvious to be open with people because of percieved judgement and hoping you might be able to get away with passing it off.
I was worried I would loose oppurtunties because of this, and was trying to be someone I'm not - which created additional unhelpful stress.
If anything, the relationship between myself and my employer feels more relaxed after this.
So...
How and why I spoke to my employer about my chronic illness:
I decided to tell my employer after it became obvious I was having 2 times the sick leave of other staff, and had to come into work late on one or two occasions.
This is a positive move because:
A) My manager now knows my sick leave is legitimate and not the result of work avoidance
B) My manager will hopefully appreciate transparency
C) My manager will hopefully appreciate my self awareness and proactively
Steps:
1. Aquire a general medical certificate from your GP or specialist. Mine roughly stated "x has a medical conditon which is being investigated at the hospital, and will need to take time from work because it this" Give this to your employer during your conversation
2. Identify how it is affecting your work. In my case:
- I may have more sick days than other staff and you may have noticed this
- I have had to come in late
Explain how you will balance it with your work, and how you will manage productivity
I.e.
I am still able to work 40 hours a week for you in total, however I will need to use a portion of my annual leave as additional "sick leave" throughout the year, and may require more sporadic days off than other staff
I may require flexibility with my hours on accession I.e. working 1 - 2 hours into the evening if I am ill in the morning
Emphasise that you can provide the same output as other workers, but this requires flexibility
3. Let your employer know you thought they might like to know whats going on, and thank them
Keep it short and relaxed. You don't need tell them your life story or any detail about your condition.

Are Online Medical Certificates Accepted? We Investigate
Medical certificates are an important part of navigating health impacts on work, study, travel and access to services. But with telehealth booming during the pandemic, are online video consultations sufficient for medical certification needs?
In this extensive guide, we dive into the validity of online medical certificates in Australia — examining acceptance by employers, insurers, government agencies and beyond.
What Are Online Medical Certificates?
Thanks to telehealth services, Australians can now obtain medical certificates via online consultations, without attending a doctor’s office in-person.
You have a video or phone appointment, your doctor assesses your condition remotely, and issues a certificate digitally. Some key online medical certificate types include:
Sick leave notes for missing work
Return to work certificates outlining capacity
Centrelink medical reports for welfare claims
Fit to fly and travel certificates
Prescription authorities for subsidised medication
While convenient, are these digital certificates seen as legitimate? Here we look at the recognition status across different sectors.
Employer Acceptance of Online Medical Certificates
For sick leave, online certificates are generally accepted by most Australian employers in public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
Key factors making them valid include:
– Issued during a live telehealth consultation by an Australian-registered GP following assessment.
– Contains all required details — doctor/patient identification, dates of leave, nature of condition etc.
– Displays the doctor’s digital signature and provider number.
– Sent securely via email or patient’s online record platform.
However, employers retain discretion rights on medical certificate acceptance. For monitoring, some workplaces may still require in-person assessments after a certain time period or number of certificate instances.
The Fair Work Ombudsman confirms online certificates carry the same evidentiary weight for sick leave. But employers can follow up with the doctor if authenticity is doubted.
Insurance Company Acceptance
For total permanent disability or income protection claims, most major Australian insurers also accept telehealth medical certificates issued by qualified GPs or treating specialists.
The same validity criteria apply — live consultation, verifiable details, secure digital issue and signatures.
However, insurers generally reserve rights to request in-person medical examinations or assessments from approved practitioners to substantiate claims. So online coverage may be limited to initial certificates.
Government Agency Acceptance
Centrelink states online medical reports from telehealth consultations can be submitted to support claims for Disability Support Pension, Sickness Allowance and Mobility Allowance.
Issuing practitioners must be approved Centrelink assessors — usually your regular GP initially. Reports follow a standard format outlined by Services Australia.
For subsidised PBS medication, the TGA allows GPs to generate authority prescriptions remotely following telehealth consultations. Digital signatures are accepted.
While convenient, Centrelink and Medicare may still require in-person assessments in some circumstances for claims and approvals.
Travel Provider Acceptance
Airlines and travel operators take varying approaches to online medical certificates:
– Airlines often accept digital fit to fly reports for pregnancy and mobility assistance.
– Tour operators are more reluctant on remote medical clearances for activities like diving.
– Digital vaccine exemptions tend to need validation through Australian Immunisation Register data.
So acceptance is mixed — connect directly with your travel provider to confirm requirements.
How Online Medical Certificates Help Australians
For many Aussies, online medical certificates have proven invaluable especially amid the pandemic, by:
– Enabling certification when unable to attend a clinic in-person.
– Allowing quicker return to work with digital fit notes.
– Supporting welfare claims despite lockdowns or mobility limits.
– Reducing risks to vulnerable groups by avoiding clinics.
– Cutting certificate costs through bulk-billed telehealth.
– Providing faster healthcare access, often outside business hours.
With their widespread acceptance, digital certificates issued via telehealth give Australians important medical evidence to keep life on track while protecting wellbeing.
Are There Limitations to Online Certificates?
While now commonplace, there are some limitations on full reliance on online-only medical certificates:
– In-person assessments may still be required by some workplaces and insurers periodically.
– Centrelink and PBS approvals often depend on supplementary in-person reports.
– Travel operators can be selective on digital certificate acceptance.
– Doctors may feel less comfortable certifying some conditions like mental health remotely.
– Potential risks around certificate fraud and security with online issuance.
So full transition to telehealth certificates is not yet universally endorsed. Blended online and in-person certification may be the sweet spot.
Best Practice Tips for Online Medical Certificates
To uphold validity for telehealth medical certificates:
– Have a live video consultation so the doctor can assess you properly
– Use a registered Australian practitioner familiar with certification
– Request certificates directly during the consultation
– Have the doctor email securely to you/employer/ insurer direct
– Don’t just use an online form — speak to a real qualified doctor
– Check details like signatures and dates are complete
– Keep the original copy on file if needed for verification
– Follow up in-person if required down the track
What Does the Future Hold for Online Certificates?
The convenience of online medical certification is likely here to stay, with a few directions expected:
– Ongoing acceptance by more employers and insurers as telehealth becomes normalised.
– Tightened regulations around telehealth consult standards for certificates.
– Introduction of digitally verified blockchain certificates to prevent fraud.
– Expanded acceptance for government-subsidised supports.
– Closer integration with online patient management platforms.
– Potential for AI health apps to issue certificates after human review.
While still evolving, telehealth medical certificates provide a flexible certification option complementing in-person assessments where needed. With sensible safeguards, digital fit notes look set to simplify sickness, welfare and travel claims for Australians into the future.
Key Takeaways on Online Medical Certificates
– Telehealth allows convenient access to medical certificates without in-clinic visits.
– They are widely accepted for sick leave and insurance claims if meeting verification standards.
– Some employers and government programs still require in-person assessments periodically.
– Genuine video consultations are key — don’t just use online form templates.
– Fair Work supports the validity of digital certificates for sick leave from a qualified provider.
– Fraud risks need managing as online certification expands.
So are online medical certificates accepted? In most situations yes, though a blended approach is optimal. With integrated digital options and in-person oversight where warranted, certification can be accessed conveniently without compromising verification, for your essential health evidence needs.
