#Goblinessence buddie fic rec

I had some time these last two days and so it was time for me to begin with the Buddie fic recs. This is the first one, more to come in the future (don't know when, honestly, I usually organize my fics folder when I have time/when I feel like doing it). Enjoy 💚
PS: I usually tag the authors, but sometimes I forget to do it, I'm sorry but I'm a bit chaotic.
Don’t Want no Other Shade of Blue But You [Words: 11050] by @fangkinkdiaz
This is an entire series, complete, and I suggest to read it all because it’s perfect.
“You can’t go see your son like this.”
That gives Buck pause. “He’s not—he’s not my son.”
“Isn’t he, though?” she says.
And part of Buck wants to argue, but a bigger part of him thinks, isn’t he, though? Not by blood, sure, or legally, but in all the ways that matter, Christopher is as good as his son.
Hungry For Your Love [Words: 1847] by @evcndiaz
I'm so in love with this one. It makes me laugh every single time I read it. Also the characters are so perfectly portraited it's like reading the script of an episode.
prompt: "who’s gonna write a fanfic where chris is not cooperating with buck and eddie accidentally says “listen to your dad?" or; breadsticks are a metaphor for love and boning
Habits [Words: 4926]
I read this over and over again. I loved it so much it became a comfort fic for me.
Buck's not sure what's going on when Eddie starts kissing him on the head after a rough call, only now it's A Thing, and it's a thing Buck would very much like to continue if he knew what it meant.
(or another Buddie fic where everyone knows except Buck.)
Fire on Fire [Words: 6668]
Absolutely one of my favourites. It's very well written.
"You’re sleeping with him.”
“I’m not—” Eddie rolls his eyes and corrects himself halfway through. “I’m not sleeping with him like that, okay?”
Sophia looks at him for a long moment as her gaze turns from teasing to thoughtful.
“But you want to be. Right?”
[Or: Buck and Eddie get in the habit of sharing a bed while living together during quarantine. It's platonic until it isn't.]
To Build a Home we deconstruct our rituals [Words: 44248]
I really enjoyed this fic. More like a journey. I loved the way Eddie has been portraited.
After the shooting, Eddie realizes he needs to put some things in place. Like who will get his assets if he dies. Who will speak for him if he ends up in a coma. What might happen if his family contests Buck's guardianship. Luckily, he's got a simple easy-peasy solution that won't result in insanity, catastrophe, or heartbreak:
Marry Buck.

The episode of this week was amazing and I felt inspired, so I'm here with the second Buddie fics list!
Guys, when you write something Buddie related please tag me or send it to me. I don't follow many people here on Tumblr due to terrible past experience, and so sometimes I lose a lot of good works on the way. Thanks. Have a super nice day 💚
PS: You can find my recs under the goblinessence buddie fic rec tag or under the top post on my blog.
5 'platonic' terms of endearment (+1 that definitely means more) [Words:3390] by @a-beautiful-struggle-of-life
Perfect fic when you need something light and quite funny.
“Shut up, darling, it’s nothing. Now get gone, my son is waiting to hear how the pirates found the purple dinosaur.” He laughs again before pulling his phone away from his ear, hanging up the call with an achingly soft smile at his screen.
Ana chews her lip, looking away.
Is it weird that her boyfriend has never called her ‘darling’ but calls his best friend that?
When Buddie Learns Chris Has No Filter [Words: 1759]
Don't you just love Christopher Diaz so, so much? Another light fic that I loved.
At a Grant-Nash get-together Maddie asks where Buck had been that morning, Chris enlightens everyone on some new developments...
I want your midnights [Words: 36358] by @littlespooneven
I loved this one so much! I've already read it multiple times, and everytime is just perfect. Definitely one of my comfort fics.
Eddie grins. “Yeah I get that. So can I ask why you applied for the room? No offence but you’re not exactly the kind of candidate I expected.”
Buck laughs, ducking his head. That’s probably true.
“I, uh, I’ve been staying at my girlfriend’s place while she’s travelling but um, my sister moved to LA recently and sort of made the point that I could be overstaying my welcome? Or, well- actually she tried to tell me my girlfriend’s cheating on me and I need to get over it and move out of her place.” Buck shakes his head, eyes widening at what he just implied. “She’s not! Cheating, I mean. She’s just- trying to find herself after losing her mom. She just needs a little space, y’know?”
At least, that’s the excuse Buck’s giving Abby for why she hasn’t called him in over two weeks.
Eddie nods with a vague sort of expression on his face like he hadn’t expected him to overshare that much. Which, oops.
*
In which Eddie decides to rent out his spare room to help with mortgage repayments right around the time Buck decides to move out of Abby's place after some not so gentle prodding from Maddie. It's a coincidence. Or serendipity. Or maybe just really good timing.
I Hate Accidents (Except When We Went From Friends to This) [Words: 7206]
There's this one tag that is very important for this one, which is: they're literally so dumb I can't handle it and it summarizes the whole fic perfectly. Funny, lovely, sweet. I loved it.
“You should just move in,” Eddie said one night.  They were already laying in bed, Buck’s face half-buried in his pillow.
“Where would I sleep, Eddie,” Buck deadpanned, sleep heavy in his voice.
“Here,” Eddie said, not entirely sure how Buck missed that part.  “The same place you’ve been sleeping.”
Bobby raised an eyebrow when Buck updated his address on all of the necessary paperwork, but Eddie wasn’t entirely sure what the big deal was.
~~~~~~~
Buck and Eddie had always been unconventional. Neither of them gave it much thought – they were just them. Buck and Eddie
- partners, best friends, co-parents – just as entangled in each other’s lives as any actual couple in the 118.
Or, the story of how Buck and Eddie went about their relationship in entirely the wrong order.
look into your heart and you'll find love [Words: 11895] by @evanbucklies
Everybody needs some smut from time to time. Also, lots of feelings in this one. I really liked it.
It starts after Eddie’s Abuela breaks her hip.
Not an auspicious start, and certainly not a sexy one, but after Buck introduces him to Carla he’s so damn grateful he barely waits for the door to shut behind her before he’s crowding Buck up against the kitchen counter and dropping to his knees.
-or-
Eddie falls into a friends with benefits relationship with Buck, and then he just keeps falling.
No episode this week meaning we all have to find a way to pass the time, so here's another list of Buddie fics for you. I don't think it's needed to be said, but please always read the tags of every fic before diving into them. Have a nice day 💚
PS: You can find all the lists under the tag goblinessence buddie fic rec or on the top post on my blog.
And longer by far [Words: 14547] by @buckactuallys
Some light angst for this established relationship fic. I loved how Eddie's turmoil is so in character.
“Eddie’s been married once, and after Shannon asked him for a divorce and then died before they could do anything about it, he figured that was it for him. One marriage with all its ups and downs is enough for a lifetime.
Granted, he didn’t think he’d fall in love with Buck and be lucky enough for that love to be returned.”
OR
Everyone seems to expect Eddie to propose to Buck any minute now, which is annoying because Eddie doesn’t want to get married again. He's sure of that. Or is he?
The face of love is fearless (and it pardons all your faults) [Words: 1928] by @sarcasticfina
This fic takes place after 5x03.
Eddie was on his third sink of dishes when he heard the door open and close, followed by a very excited, "Buck!" renting the air.
Soapy hands braced on the sink, Eddie's shoulders slumped with, what? Relief? Because of course— of course— Buck would just come over and let himself in when he knew Eddie would be breaking up with Ana today.
If You Were Church (i'd get on my knees) [Words: 3606]
Oh god this made me laugh so hard.
"Even after so many years of friendship, it still floored Eddie to hear the ease with which Buck made well adjusted plans allowed for Chris to be as independent as possible without ever making it a big deal. It was such a contrast from what he was used to, but Eddie was nothing but grateful for all of Buck’s support. They’d promised to always have each other's backs, but at this point it was mostly an ingrained instinct."
OR
A wedding proposal reveals Eddie's true feelings, but has he ruined everything, or will things finally fall into place?
Seamless shift [Words: 4236] by @zeethebooknerd
I've got a thing for clothes sharing...
Eddie lets a confession slip while stuck in the dregs of sleep, and Buck panics about it.
Or, the soft clothes sharing fic that turned a little angsty because these boys are idiots
I have not wanted syllables [Words: 3399] by @oatflatwhite
I like this fic so, so much. It's very well written and it's sweet.
Buck shifts against the pillow, turning into Eddie’s touch. The hand stills in his hair, brushes down to cradle his cheek. Buck kisses Eddie’s wrist, because it’s right there and he can. Eddie’s face does this thing Buck loves: a tucked-away smile, like he’s not sure it’s allowed.
*
Five times Buck and Eddie don’t say “I love you” + one time they do.
Since my Buddie fics folder is quite full I think that I'm going to arrange a post for every Monday until the show comes back. I don't really know if I'm going to have the time to do it every week, but I'll try at least every 15 days. So let's begin with this one.
PS: You can find my recs under the goblinessence buddie fic rec tag or on the top post on my blog.
Life sure can try to put love through it [Words: 20353] by @capseycartwright
Words cannot properly describe how much I love amnesia fics and how much I loved this one.
Listen - the panic attack Buck had, it was fully justified. As far as he knew, it was 2021 - and Eddie was standing next to him, telling him that he’d forgotten the last three years of his life. He felt he deserved a moment to have a panic attack, thank you very much. or - after an accident at work, Buck forgets the last three years of his life. Mentally, he's back in 2021 and in the midst of a failing relationship with Taylor - but actually, its 2024 and he's married to his best friend, Eddie. Navigating amnesia is pretty heavy work, as it turns out.
The Aftermath of Liberation and Love Confessions [Words: 17267] by @elvensorceress
I got so emotional reading this fic. As always I love the way some of you are able to catch all the nuances that make Eddie Diaz such a good character.
After a very long year of one terrible thing after another, Eddie has a brand new life strategy. It’s called not giving a shit.
There’s the fire of a challenge in Buck’s eyes and a clench in the set of his jaw, and come on, it’s not as if Eddie forced Buck into dating the reporter. Not like he pays it any mind whatsoever. It was doomed from the start. She’s not good enough for him. She’s a terrible fit for him. Buck’s clearly been miserable for months. Still, Buck says, “Yeah, Eddie. Why don’t you teach us. What would you say if you were professing your love?”
You mean something besides, “In the event of my untimely death, I made you legal guardian of my child”?
Eddie stares back at him. He breathes deeply, and since his renewed life philosophy is not giving a shit and not being ashamed and finally reaching freedom, why the fuck not...
~~~
In which Eddie comes out, sexuality is complicated but coffee is not, Buck makes an excessive salad and is also roasted, everyone has a love confession, and December is the most dramatic time of year.
Ten, twenty, fifty [Words: 5090]
This one is perfect for overwhelming days. It has the power to calm me down.
“Look you,” Buck began, pausing as Eddie turned his attention back to him. “I know you’re dating because you want to find someone to be your life partner, someone who would raise Chris with you, right?”
Eddie nods in response. He’s unsure as to where Buck’s taking this, but he nods nonetheless.
“Well, why don’t you try this. Close your eyes, and imagine your life ten...twenty...maybe fifty years from now,” Buck says and Eddie follows, closing his eyes as he listens to Buck.
Or: Eddie has an epiphany, and it's the best kind.
Until my dying breath [Words: 4099] by @on-maars
“I broke up with Taylor.”
Eddie stops scrubbing, and looks up at his best-friend with a frown. “Why? I thought you liked her.”
“I did.” Buck answers. “But she wasn’t what I wanted.” He adds. Eddie takes a sharp intake of breath. “It couldn’t have worked out.”
“Okay.” Eddie answers. He wishes he could say more, but the words just don’t come out. And that’s not even the worst part. No. The worst part is hearing his best-friend sigh next to him, like he’s resigned, like he’s giving up on him.
Eddie lets out a shaky breath and scrubs the plate harder, in the hope that it stops his hands from trembling. And for a few minutes, it works. Eddie stays focused on the task at hand and Buck puts the dishes away, knowing his way through the kitchen like it’s his own. Eddie tries not to think about that for too long.
“You know I used to think we were going somewhere, you and I.”
Echoes [Words: 2299]
This one takes place after 5x10 and it broke my heart but it is absolutely beautiful.
Buck smiles, blinking the tears away, trying to see through the heavy smoke. He’s going to be fine. Eddie is going to save him.
It’s the last thought he has when his grip on the ledge slips away and suddenly he’s falling. One second ago he is still clutching to the ledge and the next the fire from the window beside him bursts and he’s tossed into the air.
He stares into the sky above him, his arm still reaching for safety, waiting to feel the telltale sensation of familiar fingers wrapping around his wrist. But it never comes. Neither does Eddie.
-
Or in the aftermath of Eddie leaving, Buck can't seem to let go of him.

It's only the third Monday without 911 and I'm slowly losing my mind. Spring is so, so far away. Here's a list of very good fics to pass the time.
PS: You can find my recs under the goblinessence buddie fic rec tag or under the top post on my blog.
Melt me down [Words: 3052]
Smut. Also Eddie wrecked me in this one. It's an entire series that I loved. If you decide to read it please, PLEASE, read every single tag to be sure there's nothing that could make you uncomfortable.
Eddie isn’t very good at asking for what he wants. He’s getting better at it. Slowly. Learning that he’s allowed to be a person, that he’s allowed to want things, that he can ask. But it’s...difficult. Especially when the things he wants—well.
They’re not exactly things he’s been taught he’s supposed to want.
I Lie to Myself and Say It's For the Best [Words: 4672]
Some light angst with happy ending for days where everything seems to go down.
Eddie and Buck finally give in to their feelings.
Eddie immediately messes it up.
It takes a few kind, and not so kind, words to get him to fix it.
Autocowrecked [Words: 2725]
I'm trying to understand how much horrible I am for laughing at this. Let me know.
Eddie is never, ever using the talk-to-text function on his phone. Ever again.
Paper Rings [Words: 6663]
Maddie went quiet for a moment, looking at him not with pity, but instead with empathy, and shared sadness. “So. What did you find, then?”
“An engagement ring.” The words weighed heavy on his tongue. “He’s going to propose to Ana.”
The ache in my mouth [Words: 1824]
This fic really affected me. There's one particular paragraph that lives rent free in my brain (probably forever). (5x04 spoilers)
"Eddie is ten years old when he learns to swallow his screams.
He thinks maybe they are choking him."
or; what happens when you take a man and you break him
