The Nintedo Sport Games

Most of us had a Wii or someone that we were related to that owed one, and if you had it, then you had one of the most popular games of that entire era. Wii Sports was released with the Wii in late November in a bundle with the system itself. With many simple yet very fun game mode such as Baseball, Bowling, Boxing, Golf, Tennis and challenge modes for each of them.

There were four extra modes that went with each sport to help you get better at the controls and increasing your digital rank within the system. And my goodness was it a smashing hit, for simple controls that any level of consumer could just pick up the remote and play with friends or family. With this also came a strange health checking mode that would take you thru multiple test to check your reaction time, balance and general motor skills to varying degrees of accuracy. And they somehow topped it with the release of Wii Sports Resort in 2009, only 3 years after the initial success of the first, for the same system. It took place on an island called Maka Wuhu and let me tell you, was an insane glow up for the last game with many more games and a better system for motion controls, the upgrade came with the game in a pack.

With 12 modes each with at least two variations per, this game also introduced stamps, or little achievements that alter the look of the island permanently. This is more introduced in the dogfight mini-game mode “Island Flyover” where you find all locations around the Resort and are rewarded for it. I’m not going to talk about the new Switch Sports, because it wouldn’t be fair to it, it’s so much different from its source material that I can't compare the two, from fewer modes to online being required to customize your tools and gear (That serve zero real purpose) it’s just plain worse that the first game.

With that being said, from the popularity and well executed nature of the first two games, I have got to give them a solid 9/10. Now, some of you might be thinking, “Matt, you forgot my favourite game for the Wii U! Wii Sports CLUB, where is it?” Well, I must say that until earlier this year I never knew they made a Wii sports game for the new system, mainly because the system sold poorly, and the game was mediocre. In the end, it gave us nothing new except giving us online that was super spotty.
