Hofbräu München Hofbräu Original
Brewed By: Staatlitches Hofbräuhaus, München, Germany
ABV: 5.1%
I'm not going to go lie to you all here. I was deeply disappointed by this particular beer. I was expecting something completely different, and got kind of shit on for it. It says right on the bottle "Brewed according to the German purity law." Really? Then I think the Germans really need to rethink some things because WHOA. This was awful. Normally it's considered alcohol abuse to dump a beer, but in this case the beer itself was abusive. This picture was taken right before I let the beer rejoin Lake Erie.

German Loan-Words In Korean
여러분 안녕하세요!
Yes I am still alive. I have been - and still am - dealing with things in Real Life that take up all my energy (namely depression and anxieties), but I wanted to make this post because it was something I stumbled over. Loan words. Many languages - maybe even all I don’t know - have loan words from other languages. Korean is no exception. We often hear the english ones because most of us know English a whole lot better than other languages unless your native language is another one.
As you may know I’m German. So when I stumbled over two words that sounded very familiar to me - because they were pretty much German but with Korean pronunciation - I had to look up more German loan words and found a page in the wiktionary. So I wanted to share these words with you from the perspective of a German.
Many of these are chemical elements or city names, but also has some that are not, I will keep them all in though, just to be complete.
Let’s go! 가자!
가톨릭 - Catholicism - German: Katholik
갈륨 -  gallium - German: Gallium - chemical element
게놈 - genom - German: Genom - complete genetic information of an organism
게르마늄 - germanium - German: Germanium - chemical element
그라프 - graph - German: Graph
그람 - gram - German: Gramm - Unit of measurement
깁스 - cast - German: Gips - cast for a broken bone
나치 - Nazi - German: Nazi
나트륨 - sodium - German: Natrium - chemical element
노이로제 - neurosis - German: Neurose
도이췰란드 - Germany - German: Deutschland - This seems to be obsolete in South Korea, they now use 독일 but according to the wiktionary it’s still used in North Korea
뢴트겐 - X-Ray - German: Röntgen
루페 - Magnifying glass - German: Lupe
리히텐슈타인 - Liechtenstein - German: Liechtenstein - A country in Europe
망간 - manganese - German: Mangan - chemical element
뮌헨 - Munich - German: München - City in Germany.
메스 - scalpel - German: Messer (Messer is the word for knife) - This is one noted as being dutch in origin but as it is so similar to the German word I am including it
베른 - Bern - German: Bern - Capital of Switzerland
베를린 - Berlin - German: Berlin - Capital of Germany
벤졸 - benzene - German: Benzol - chemical compound
본 - Bonn - German: Bonn - German City
빈 - Vienna - German: Wien - Capital of Austria
슈니첼 - schnitzel - German: Schnitzel - A food
아르바이트 - Part-Time Job, Side Job, German: Arbeit - Any kind of work full time, part time, chores, a task, hobby etc.
알레르기 - allergy - German: Allergie
에네르기 - energy - German: Energie
에스체트 - eszett - German: Eszett - the letter ß
왈츠 - waltz - German: Walzer - a dance
요오드 - iodine - Germany: Jod
요한 - John - German: Johann - a name
이데올로기 - ideology - German: Ideologie
취리히 - Zurich - German: Zürich - City in Switzerland
칼륨 - potassium - German: Kalium - chemical element
코크스 - coke - German: Koks - coal product
쾰른 - cologne - German: Köln - City in Germany
크롬 - chromium/chrome - German: Chrom
크바르크 - quark/cottage cheese - German: Quark
크세논 - xenon - German: Xenon - chemical element
테마 - topic/theme - German: Thema
페스트 - plague - German: Pest
프로 / 퍼센트 - percent - German: Prozent - %
플루오르 - fluorine - German: Flour - chemical element
호프 - bar/pub - German: Hofbräu (in German this is a certain kind of beer)
So if you are German or know some German maybe these can help you to remember these words more easily. While not all of them will be useful in everyday life, some may be. And if you wonder if Korean has any words from your language in their vocabulary, check out this page.
Thank you all for still being here and learning with me, even if I am quiet for a while. More coming soon I hope! :)
Until then. Stay awesome! 화이팅

Tuesday 8 January 2002 - Walk to Europa-Industriepark - the new BMW E65 “7-Series” - tram ride from Opera to east of the Isar
Hi everyone!  Grüezi mitenand!   Hallo allerseits!   Üdv mindenkinek!   Ahoj všetci!
Hi everyone, my twenty-years-ago journey is soon to be over, only two more stories including today.  No more cold weather from January 2002.
I woke up in my room at the hotel in the Schillerstraße.  My room was facing a neighboring building so no noise from Schillerstraße.  Breakfast was on the second floor.  Because it was still cold and snowy outside, I decided to not leave the hotel until at least 9:30 AM.  And any plan I had to visit Nuremberg, I decided not to risk it.
I took the U2 to Frankfurter Ring.  I forgot that if I wanted to go to Europa-Industriepark in the north of Munich, I would need to take the U2 to Am Hart to get a bus.  I walked the rest of the way to Am Hart.  There were two free busses to the former Walmart, now called V-Markt, and the other to the former SUMA megastore now called "real,-".  I knew of these superstores from the days when I lived in Munich, and this is where I could buy things for much cheaper than closer to my apartment.  In V Markt I bought some chocolates and a one liter beer stein.  It was kind of generic without any particular beer brand like Spaten, Hofbräu, Hacker-Pschorr, Löwenbräu and Augustiner.
In January 2002 there was no direct MVV bus connection between either the V-Markt nor real,- stores.  Walking seems to be the only option, other than to take a bus to either Am Hart or to Kieferngarten, then board a bus to the other store, which can take time.  Sometime when the V-Markt was sold, the dedicated shuttle bus was discontinued, and more or less is served by MVV bus lines 140 and 141.  Real,- has since been sold and operates under a different company.  Bus line 178 goes from Real,- to the Kieferngarten U Bahn station, likewise to Frankfurter Ring and Petuelring.  The shuttles I remember from 1997 and 1998 have become essentially obsolete.
About 12 PM I took the U-Bahn back to Hauptbahnhof and Schillerstraße.  It was getting too cold and too snowy to do much for a while, so I took a nap for an hour or so.  It did not last too long.  About 2:30 PM I left for the Saturn Hansa electronics and music store, located about Theresienwiese and Oktoberfest site.  There I bought some music CDs, including from Herbert Grönemeyer, Edoardo Bennato including guitar chords that came with the CD, and a single from Gorillaz.  I dropped those off at the hotel at 3:30 PM and went on to BMW Lenbachplatz.  It is located near Karlsplatz, Maximiliansplatz and the Alter Botanischer Garten.  One thing of the most interest at the BMW dealership, was the brand new "E65", otherwise known as the 7-series.  More about it in "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_7_Series_(E65)"
I did not go to the BMW museum at Olympiapark in January 2002, because I had already visited it in July 1997 and again in July 1998.   After Lenbachplatz, it was time to find some way to cross the Isar and make a circuit ending at Sendlinger Tor.  I took the tram line 19 stopped at the Nationaltheater to see the city`s opera house.  Then I took another tram 19 across to Max-Monument to see the Maximilenium which is the Bavarian State Senate building across the Isar (the destination of a certain letter that Aloysius was supposed to deliver but instead he ended up drinking several liters of Hofbräu Original), and then Max Weber Platz and changed to a line 16 going to Arabellastraße.  I boarded another one going to Romanplatz in the northwest.  The tram went along Wiener Straße which has some nice neighborhood buildings.  It crossed the Ludwigsbrücke back into downtown and on to Sendlinger Tor.
About 4:30 PM it was getting dark so I could not spend too long.  Eventually I managed to get the Sendlinger Tor stop, walked to Marienplatz, turned right, and after the toy museum, I walked down Parkassenstraße, then Pfisterstraße, and what should I see but the original Hofbräuhaus.  It looked interesting but I thought at the time it seemed a bit touristy.  I instead went somewhere back on the Kaufingerstraße.
I would have to pack up my belongings, so that I would have to decide what to throw away so that I would not be charged with excess baggage.  I needed just one more change of clothes for the journey home the next day.
Next and final story:  Surprise, you`ve been overbooked
Hope you will join in tomorrow’s adventure!
Ich hoffe, Ihr nehmt am morgigen Abenteuer teil!
Remélem, csatlakozol a holnapi kalandhoz!
Dúfam, že sa zapojíte do zajtrajšieho dobrodružstva!

Hofbräuhaus beer hall. Many pints ago, a bunch of 18-35 year olds hopped onto a bus somewhere in London, and set forth to discover mainland Europe with Contiki. One of the places was Munich, all of two days, to try and soak in as much history and culture as possible. Turns out that wasn't to be. Instead, what we did soak up was copious amounts of beer. One of the places we stopped was Munich. And no trip to this city is complete until you have checked in to the world famous Hofbräuhaus - the largest beer hall in Munich. Walk in and it feels like one big party, with thirsty locals and tourists trying hard to catch the attention of the waiters, while the band play their songs. Hofbräuhaus is the oldest beer hall in Munich, dating back to as far as 1589. It has since played host to a number of famous personalities, and one infamous one too. Not that it should stop you from making a pit-stop. After all, it's not everyday that one gets to gulp down liters of beer in the hallowed halls of Hofbräuhaus. ________________________________________ @nofixedaddrs #nofixedaddrs www.nofixedaddress.in _________________________________________ Simply inspiring 🇩🇪 #visitgermany #germanytourism #simplymunich #hofbraemuenchen #contiki _________________________________________ ………. ……... …….. ……. …… ….. …. … .. . #Hofbräu #hofbr #uhaus #nchen #hofbrauhaus #munichstagram #munichlifestyle #munichlove #citylife #munichlife #munichcity #münchenliebe #münchen #munich #beer #bier #munich #bavaria #hb #wirtshausmusik #birra #biergarten #marienplatz #beerstagram (at Hofbräuhaus München - Das Original) https://www.instagram.com/p/CIlK9kOMeNm/?igshid=g9ppzu74nqwx

Free Pour: Oktoberfest 2020 Isn’t Dead — How Munich Breweries Are Keeping It Alive
Fans of classic Märzen lagers, giant pretzels, and plenty of obatzda know that Oktoberfest was cancelled in Munich this year — but that’s only part of the story. Yes, the massive beer festival on the city’s Theresienwiese meadow, more commonly known as the Wiesn, is not going to happen in 2020 due to the coronavirus, as announced by Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter on April 21. But locals are planning plenty of other activities in an attempt to keep the spirit of Oktoberfest alive.
From Sept. 19 through Oct. 4, during what would have been Oktoberfest’s usual period of celebration, special events will take over the beer halls of the six Munich breweries that normally fill the festival tents: Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräu, Löwenbräu, Paulaner, and Spaten. Each brewery will set up its own “Wirtshaus-Wiesn” at its respective Wirtshaus, or local tavern, in an attempt to salvage at least some of the fun of Oktoberfest — as well as some of its economic benefits.
“Now that the Wiesn is not taking place, there will be numerous other events under the title ‘Wirtshaus-Wiesn,’” says Stefan Hempl, a spokesperson for Hofbräu. “In the center of Munich, restaurateurs will decorate their pubs with Oktoberfest decorations during the festival’s timeframe, offer Oktoberfest delicacies, and, of course, serve Oktoberfest beer in a Maßkrug [the festival’s traditional one-liter mug],” he says. “It is not meant to be a ‘substitute Oktoberfest,’ but more of an homage to the origins of the festival, with a cheerful, untroubled atmosphere in our taverns and beer gardens — while observing, of course, all hygiene and safety regulations.”
With 6.3 million visitors, Oktoberfest contributed €1.23 billion — about $1.45 billion — and an estimated 13,000 jobs to the local economy in 2018. Oktoberfest visitors consumed about 15 percent of the 42,000 barrels of the Oktoberfest lager Hofbräu brewed in 2019, Hempl says, and the event also brought large numbers of visitors to the Hofbräuhaus tavern in the city. While exports, retail sales, and the various “Wirtshaus-Wiesn” events can make up a bit of difference, there’s clearly going to be a big loss to the regional economy, like the €505 million ($595 million) that was spent at area hotels during last year’s festival.
Although 2020 would mark the 210th anniversary of the event, it would have only been the 187th Oktoberfest, with some 25 incarnations cancelled due to various wars, hyperinflation in the years 1923 and 1924, and cholera epidemics in 1854 and 1873.
For some beer-loving locals, skipping a year of Oktoberfest might not be such a big deal — especially for fans of small and independent breweries. Of the six big Munich beer makers, only Augustiner and Hofbräu are not owned by international giants. AB InBev owns Spaten and Löwenbräu, while Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr are part of Brau Holding International, 49.9 percent of which is held by Heineken.
“I can’t say I feel particularly bad for the event itself or the big tent owners, but I can see that the owners of rides and smaller Oktoberfest venues are in a difficult situation,” says Jonas Haase, a beer lover in Munich. For Haase, a much greater loss than Oktoberfest was the cancellation of this year’s Fränkisches Bierfest, which normally brings over a hundred cult Franconian breweries to Bavaria’s second city of Nuremberg in mid-June.
As part of the efforts to find substitute roles for some of the smaller festival vendors, the city of Munich announced a program called Summer in the City, which has brought Ferris wheels and other rides, as well as booths, sports, and concerts, to various locations safely spread out across the city. Instead of the 16 days of Oktoberfest at the Wiesn, Summer in the City is scheduled to last for six weeks, though like Oktoberfest it will conclude on Oct. 4. Safety measures at small beer gardens around the city include registration and a smartphone app to aid contact tracing in the event of an outbreak.
As Mayor Reiter noted in April, the world’s largest beer festival could be extremely dangerous as a potential infection site for the entire planet. “The risk that people could become infected with the virus at the Oktoberfest, with its some 6 million visitors, is just too great,” he said. “Hopefully we will have got over the health crisis for the most part by the end of September, which means it would be even more irresponsible to risk a new wave of transmission.”
For now, beer-loving locals will find other ways to invoke the festival’s traditional feeling of gemütlichkeit, or “coziness,” possibly with a wider variety of beer than in normal years. “I have talked with friends about taking a crate of beer or a keg of homebrew to the Theresienwiese in September,” Haase says. “I suspect we are not the only ones with that idea, and there might be a spontaneous mass picnic happening on the opening weekend.” Or to put it another way: Everything happens for a Wiesn.

16 October 2019: In Plain Sight, Honeyblood. (Marathon Artists, 2019)
Honeyblood is a Glaswegian project led by Stina Tweeddale; this is her third album under the name, and after some difficulty holding down a lineup she made this one without a partner. 2014 debut Honeyblood is where I got interested; the guitar/ drums duo played a sort of raw garage-pop with some PJ Harvey influences, and I enjoyed that first album a lot. I managed to see them play live in that original incarnation. For the 2016 follow-up Babes Never Die a new drummer was brought in, and despite appearances that the two were an unstoppable partnership (based on the band’s social media, admittedly) it seemed to end as abruptly as it began. I didn’t care much for the record, but I just had to go one album further. Third album In Plain Sight is simply unpleasant, I think; Tweeddale benefits from a musical foil. She’s talented and has much to offer, but I’m done with the Honeyblood franchise. If I were completely ruthless about my collection the way some people are, this would have gotten sold the month I bought it. Keeping it, though, ensures there’s always that outside chance that one day I’ll find new value in it.
I do like the cover very much; it’s more striking in person, but above is an image of it, followed by the hype sticker and the back cover. Below we have both sides of the inner sleeve followed by both labels. Tweeddale always seems to be going for band-defining iconography, and here on side two’s label we see the new Honeyblood logo. Problem is, it is nearly identical to the logo for the German beer company Hofbräu and that is all I can see. This is the kind of just-off-the-mark thing that I perceive throughout the Honeyblood catalog, which is a shame. Didn’t anybody catch that similarity?

And, finally, here is an image of the whole record showing its opaque dark-green wax that matches the front cover.
