You know what I dislike? When BBC Sherlock completely takes over all the answers provided by Google when you google the name Sherlock Holmes or anything related to the books. I gotta search shit up like "What did Sherlock Holmes say that one time to that one guy in the books" or I will get an answer that's not actually correct at least not according to the actual primary source aka the books.

Like I don’t like that we’ve somewhat made it to where the public thinks of that show’s image of Sherlock Holmes when they hear that name rather than the character that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created. No hate to Benedict Cumberbatch his performance was seriously amazing but that’s just not who that character is at least in my eyes. You can perceive a character in any way you’d like or feel most comfortable with. Someone may utter the surname Holmes and you might immediately think of Butterscotch Cubicle's image while I think of Jeremy Brett's and that's fine. It just peeves me a little to have a character I’ve become so attached to since childhood and his name become somewhat squandered in the eyes of the majority of the public yk?

I don’t wanna bash or send any hate to the fandom or even the show itself. It’s a good show and if you enjoy it as much as I enjoy the original character in the books or Granada's adaptation of Holmes that's sick. I just personally wish there was more of a barrier between the original character and the character in that series that doesn't accurately represent who that character is.

Is it too late to mention that it’s always irked me when writers add to a finished story on twitter, and then it gets treated as canon?

This is, of course, different from the tweets where writers answer questions about unclear scenes that were already put in a story, or gaps in the narrative from scenes/chapters being cut. Those types of additions don’t bother me at all. But adding in completely mundane facts or events seemingly out of nowhere—on twitter no less—seems… like it shouldn’t be allowed?

I might be misreading how the fandom responds to this stuff though. I’ve always thought people took it with a grain of salt but it’s hard to figure out the line in the transformers fandom, when even undisputed canon is taken lightly and shuffled around in a blender.

I don’t write this with heat but I do have big feelings about it all the same. Jro’s tweets about random character facts that didn’t happen in the comics shouldn’t exist on the same level as, y’know, actual canon. I will die on this hill

Discontinued Fragrances: Pleine Lune by Ulric de Varens (1995)

From the same house that made the celebrated and popular chypre Varensia (1994), Pleine Lune remains very obscure, there isn’t even a listing on Fragrantica.

LaParfumerie tells me the top notes are pineapple and orange blossom, middle notes are amaryllis, jasmine, and almond, and base notes are honey, caramel, vanilla, and chocolate.

Came across a partial bottle for very cheap and I’m so glad I did. “Full Moon” is a soft vanilla floriental. My first impression was that it smelled like a 50/50 blend of an ultra sweet, Angel-esque gourmand of today and a big ‘old lady’ oriental of yesteryear. One foot in the past, one foot in the future. I’ve fallen hard.

I tested it before reading the notes, and didn’t work out that the fruit in the opening was pineapple. The pineapple here isn’t tropical or summery like you’d expect, it’s the warmth and sour-sweetness of a pineapple upside down cake. Behind it, there’s a powdery old school floral, vague and mysterious but big and loud, with a whisper of bitter almond, all working in conjunction with a backdrop of ooey melted caramel. And it sticks around, the scent itself is fairly linear, there isn’t much of a journey, but I wouldn’t want there to be. It’s perfect. I want to eat it, I want to sleep in it.

I love the astronomical, world-by-night packaging. Pictures don’t do it justice, but the bottle is lovely: frosted glass textured like a topographical globe, front and back. I wouldn’t call it a nighttime fragrance exclusively, but I’d happily wear this to bed every night, it’s that soft and comforting.

Great staying power, I’m thankful, and projection here means nothing to me, as long as I can smell it on myself, I’m happy. This is the first discontinued fragrance I’ve fallen completely head over heels for and I’ll be searching like a hawk for backups since it’s so obscure.
