**i tried to tag/link everything, if anything is broken or unsourced please let me know and i will endeavour to fix it! standard disclaimer that a) any discussion about war media based on real life people is based upon the fictional portrayals of those people and not the actual dudes. and b) this powerpoint was made for fun, it is not rigorous academic analysis. all opinions expressed are my own. please do not take it too seriously! that's all <3

there was a post about sitcoms turning into more serious shows once the characters become aware that their situation is not normal and it always made me think about mash. mash was so extremely funny, i really couldnt remember the last time i laughed as hard as i did watching the captain tuttle episode... but then, as you steadily watch the show and you get to know the characters and begin to care about them, suddenly you begin to see all the jokes and pranks and the shenanigans as this... completely and utterly desperate attempt at finding some comfort, some normalcy in an entirely awful and traumatizing situation. by season six everytime hawkeye cracks a joke it feels like its coming out of a raw place, like hes holding onto his sanity with rope-burnt hands, its just so... disheartening. the episodes remain funny of course, but the laughs feel stolen somehow. and i fuckin love it dude
