Jose de San Martin is an exception to a lot of rules:

Unlike in Mexico or with Simon Bolivar, Jose de San Martin was far freer in who he recruited into his armies and why. De San Martin's armies, the core of the modern Argentine state and its history, made the largest and the most sincere efforts to recruit Black soldiers into the ranks. The fear this cast and the legacy of it is the uglier side in the Bolivar-San Martin rivalry and why Bolivar forced San Martin out.

The limitations of visions here and the refusal of Creole leaders to accept that Black communities were legitimate at all, let alone had a legitimate space to contribute, would do great deal to shape the ways in which the Spanish-American Independence Wars created new states that were, to be very charitable, deeply divided over irreconcilable goals and seldom had leaders visionary enough to recognize this or to do anything with the problems when they were there.
