Get to know the Artists: Q&A With Canadian rising talent METAFLOOR on his latest EP ‘KRUMP JUKE’ OUT NOW on Elastic Rhythms ->
Tumblr media
ARTIST SPOTLIGHT:  METAFLOOR - Taking the global Footwork/Jungle & Bass Music scenes by storm is Calgary bread DJ and renown Producer: METAFLOOR. He's given us the gift that keeps on giving this Holiday Season with his latest EP 'Krump Juke', delivering a body of work of some bouncy, experimental and squeaky clean 160bpm+ club anthems that we've been waiting patiently to release on our Catalog since the late pandemic. Featuring a Stunning Remix from the highly esteemed Canadian duo GREAZUS (Owners & Operators of Aufect Recordings & Triple A Talent Agency) , this 4 Track EP has a bit of every flavor for everyone and so much more. We decided to ask him a few questions to get to know the man behind the music, and here’s what he had to say: _______________________________________________________________ Elastic Rhythms Artist Q&A: 1. What do you do to keep yourself motivated and interested in your work?
I enjoy many different types of music. There's always a new type of sound that I want to explore, this always keeps things fresh and interesting myself and the listener. Usually, I'll see someone play or even hear a clip of something online and it energizes me to get into the studio. 2. What is the best advice that you have been given?
In my personal life and business, there's been a common phrase that's been coming up a lot lately that can be phrased in a few different ways. Some may know it as "giving is better than receiving, or Gray V would say "jab, jab, right hook", but the concept is the same, see what you can offer others instead of constantly asking for something, whether you're promoting your music, product or catching up with a friend, operate from a place of curiosity and this creates space for expansion. 3. What advice would you have given yourself 5 years ago?
(wise rave lizard appears in a misty haze from a whippet canister) " "Even though you're not in school anymore and it doesn't seem relevant, you still suffer from clinical ADHD and you should learn about how it affects your life now both creatively and in your personal life." 4. What is your favorite late-night studio snack?
candy, soda, nicotine. 5. What in your personal life has influenced you to choose your music career?
I remember very consciously choosing to be an artist, I can actually vivdly remember exactly where I was and what I was thinking. It was a very conscious decision. I was 21 years old and I knew I wasn't very good in school nor did I enjoy it, always had a hard time holding down a 9-5 and decided music was the way to go. It's honestly been a struggle but I know it's what I'm supposed to be doing. 6. How harshly do you critique your own work?
Not very much. Tracks are never really "finished", you can always do more and it's important to know when to put it down and walk away before you overwork it. Usually, your first idea was the best one, I find when I overwork a track, maybe spending over 2 weeks to flush it out I move on to something else and that track is 100 times better than what was struggling with prior. Having said that, recently I've had a few tracks that were hard to get over a 16-bar loop and I know the idea is great so I spend almost a month working on it and grinding away until it finished and when it's done its a really good feeling seeing it come together not by mysterious inspiration from the gods, (which I think can be a trap many artists fall into) but by just working hard and putting in the hours even if its not "fun". 7. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Trash rat-making beats behind the grocery store. 8. How would you like to be remembered?
I've been hosting events now with my crew Sub Chakra, as well recently with my own weekly called "Pull Up", so it's a big part of my life when you include my own musical projects. It can get a little mundane sometimes being in a dark club every week, years down the road. Sometimes i question if i still wanna keep doing this but I try to remember all the people who express their appreciation at my nights and hope that at the end of the day i can look back i remember that i made a lot of people happy with the power of music, the lifelong friendships and memories that created, 9. if you had to live in a different country, which one would you choose?
I'd love to live somewhere else for a while but I'll always call Canada home, i love it here. 10. If you were our President, what would be the first thing you’d do?
love this question because I've brought it up many times it before to my peers. I WOULD MAKE ASMR VIDEOS ON TIKTOK PUNISHABLE BY DEATH. 11. Analog or Digital? and why?
IMO, It's when they both merge that the real magic happens. 12. If you could sit in on any production session, who would it be with? And why?
Alix Perez, man is quite low-key these days on his production techniques and I'd love to see him work. I admire his ability to make simple, yet effective tracks.

DAY 1 Bluesfest 2015
Bluesfest 2015 -  Day 5
One word – SOULSHINE
Day 5… what a trip, what a party. Speechless, but here goes.
Drumroll please;
James T, Diesel, Declan Kelly presents Diesel ‘n’ Dub feat. Emma Donovan, Radical Son, Pat Powell & Tony Hughes, Blue King Brown, Paul Kelly presents The Merri Soul Session feat. Dan Sultan & Vika/Linda Bull + Kira Puru, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Michael Franti & Spearhead + Michael Franti’s SOULSHINE feat. Yoga/ Acoustic Jam and Sahara Beck…
Phew!!!
The Sun certainly joined the party on the final day of Bluesfest 2015, coinciding with my first experience of the day, Michael Franti’s SOULSHINE. Kudos to Bluesfest for including this in the schedule. While I only made it on time to experience the last OM and acoustic jam, the message transmitted on the highest possible frequency from Michael and crew was priceless. Namaste.
James T at The Juke Joint. This fulla is the kind of guy you’d feel right at Home having a yarn to out the back of The Nudgel Pub on a Sunday arvie. Being given the opportunity to learn a bit of Blues History was awesome. James Thornbury, dubbed "James T" in his coffee house days, is an Ohio-born blues and folk journeyman and Bluesfest favourite, returning to Bluesfest after ten long years! Widely known as the front man for ten years with Canned Heat, James’ blues/folk career spans over an impressive forty years. It was a rare opportunity for dedicated blues fans to see one the greats with a truly inspiring story and legendary blues catalogue. He explained and played a 100 year old song, and took us all on a journey of discovery and heartfelt good old down home emotion. Stunning.
At The Delta Stage, I was lucky enough to catch up with some Cuzzies and enjoy some Diesel again. People of all persuasions were up and grooving in their very special personal styles, especially so when he pulled out “Right On the Tip of My Tongue”…hmmmm, indeed.
I finally got the chance to catch a bit of Diesel ‘n’ Dub as well which was a blessing. Man, that team really brought it all Home, and the power, strength and unity of the message hit us all. Being able to dance and sing to that message at the same time made it all the better. Power to The People!!!
Paul Kelly and The Merri Soul Sessions took us all to our happy place, even for us all watching from outside the tent on the video screens. There was a real family feeling outside under The Moon, partly due to the fact of Paul’s laidback vibe. His guests, especially Vika and Linda, Kira Puru and Dan Sultan was an added bonus. An awesome set.
After all that relaxing, it was time for me to hit Funky Town, and man, did I ever. I must have danced non-stop for close to 2 hours to George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic. As I entered the enclosure of The Mojo Stage, I made a commitment to myself to not let this opportunity pass, and came out the other side like I’d been for a dip in The Pacific. One guy even came up to me mid-krump and said, “man, you really hit the Spirit hard Brother…” What else could I do? Dr. George Clinton is one of the most sampled musicians on the planet (or off it !!!) and has worked alongside Tupac, Primal Scream, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dog, Outkast, Wu Tang Clan, Carlos Santana, Redman and so many others as collaborator or producer….George and crew kept going until festival close and from later news I heard they had to be dragged off stage right at the end. That’s The SPIRIT!!! 2 days later I’m still limping from dancing. Awesome.
My Bluesfest 2015 experience was made whole by the final act I saw this year, Michael Franti & Spearhead. By this time, I was spent and open to all that Michael had to share. The mix of Soulshine and Moon Shine melded perfectly. Such a beautiful man, inside and out.
All up over five days, the amount and diversity of acts I saw is unbelievable, the Spirit ignited indescribable, except if you can see inside my heart and consciousness. Bluesfest is one festival I highly recommend everyone get to at least once. Leave all your problems behind and enjoy yourself!!! You are all so worth it!!!
ONE LOVE

Jaddyn Olivas- Krumping This article was difficult to follow and the sequencing was strange to me. That being said, there were some really great points regarding hip hop and dance as a whole. The first main point of the article was that of the circle being a large part of the hip hop world. This symbolism developed out of convenience and necessity allowed hip hop to represent dancing and fighting in one event. The author talks about the circle representing chaos and order simultaneously. I think that that is what any form of dance is ultimately. Most people (those who do not dance) would walk into a rehearsal space and see a swarm of limbs that made no comprehensive story. With lights and costumes, an audience can decipher meaning to dance. This being said, it makes sense that krumping, done in the streets in groups of kids was difficult to see as an art. The next point in this article that I found interesting was that of clowning. I really loved the quote that “play is an improvisational imposition of order, a way of making order out of disorder.” This though goes hand in hand with the idea of a circle. This concept was closer to me in concept because ‘play’ was the inspiration behind i2i’s first showing and I have had a lot of dealing with this concept. I think that it is one of the best ways to describe dance. Later the article mentions the Battle Zone krumping competitions and I could not help but look them up. I could see the circle very vividly present. The idea of play was masked in the cloak of fight banter but I do think that it was playful, even if in a borderline violent way. I think that even though these qualities of circle and play were talked about specifically in reference to hip ho[, they apply universally to movement styles ass a whole. What aspect of white culture is comparable to juke joints? How are circles looked at differently in modern and ballet? #dancehistory
