I can Not believe that I forgot to post this. A couple of weekends ago took us to #zoofest 2022 in downtown @lincolnnebraskausa for date night, where we got to see the Legendary #BobbyRush do his thing. This dude is an absolutely incredible entertainer and talent. Go down the rabbit hole and google Bobby Rush, so so influential. After his set, he was nice enough for photo ops at his merch table. Cory Henry at the Delta Stage, Bluesfest Byron Bay, 17 April 2022

My favourite act at Bluesfest Byron Bay 2022. It’s unusual for working photographers to stop shooting and applaud, but they did for Cory Henry. I caught the trio three times and watched their final set from beginning to end. Funky, jazzy, soulful. Cory’s interplay with drummer TaRon Lockett was breath-taking. Superbly crafted entertainment.

SPEARHEAD 'Home' 1994

I have arrived on Tumblr, as apparently like lots of things nostalgic it has made a comeback and what a good place to use as my blog site for 'Spin That Disc'. I did read an article the other day that CD's are officially back too, so there you go! So i will be posting from Tumblr and hopefully I can then capture a wider audience over time.

A few years back I was djing for a gym workout and whilst everyone was arriving for their workout, I started spinning this whole album, and a few of the guys were then wanting to know what I was playing (they were in their 20's).

Well this band's debut release oozes coolness with Michael Franti heading up the band 'Spearhead' tackling social justice issues such as HIV on track 4 'Positive' "How am I going to live my life if I am positive? Is it going to be a negative?" and track 6 'Hole In The Bucket' (the only single released) a lesson learnt about second guessing giving to those less fortunate than you.

These songs are served with layers of swag, hip hop, roots, and r n b influence. You do hear the 'funk' in the heart of the album.

No one really does it better than Michael Franti and Spearhead is coming to Australia in 2023 so check out the tour dates however i can say that Bluesfest will explode and as Franti sings on track 9 'Runfayalife' "The party ain't started until the speaker's blown" so expect it loud!
