I've been interested in preserving the music from one of my favorite game series, Katamari Damacy for a while now. Luckily some people over at the website Khinsider have been uploading CD rips, so now we have all the main series soundtracks archived in lossless quality.
I've posted those soundtracks on my YouTube channel (despite another small channel having the same idea) but I noticed there now looks to be an official playlist for the original game's OST.
Not only that, but Namco published a collaborative remix EP, possibly for the game's 20th anniversary. Not really the type of music I listen to but interesting for a die hard fan!

塊魂サウンドトラック「塊フォルテッシモ魂」 [Katamari Damacy Soundtrack: Katamari Fortissimo Damacy], 三宅優 [Yu Miyake] et. al (2004)
Tumblr media
Few pieces of music can be so relied upon to put a smile on your face as Yuu Miyake and crew’s Katamari Fortissimo Damacy. I’ve barely even played Katamari Damacy and yet this makes me feel warm, beaming and childlike – only a testament that knowledge or experience of the game means little when the music is as good as this. There are few albums so wonderfully creative and dead-certain to change your mood as Yuu Miyake’s infamously genre-leading videogame soundtrack.

7 and 17 for the music ask meme 👀
7. three songs you didn’t expect to like but eventually loved
Twister (The World Ends With You OST) - back when this game came out my musical tastes were a bit more narrow. i was obsessed with the traditional j-rpg soundtrack and also working on my music degree. the soundtrack broke a lot of the traditional conventions and people seemed to like it. that made me angry xD turns out it was good though! like really good! all i needed to do was give it a chance and pull the stick out from my ass
The Farplane Abyss (Final Fantasy X-2 OST) - the soundtrack for ffx was pretty well liked and so when ffx-2 was announced i was tentatively thrilled? the first direct final fantasy sequel and maybe another soundtrack with the same trio of composers? welp... turns out ffx-2 decided to take a different approach to pretty much everything. it’s still a little weird to go back to the same places and hear completely different music. but if i let go of those expectations, the soundtrack is actually a lot of fun! this one in particular is such a moody piece and really connects with me :3
Lonely Rolling Star (Katamari Fortissimo Damacy) - not really a surprise here x’D this song is definitely my style. the katamari soundtrack was always sort of a funky meme? i know i didn’t take it seriously when it came out. it has such a distinctive sound though and so many of the songs are complete earworms. this one is always stuck in my head somewhere and that’s fine with me
17. three songs that remind you of your crush
Quatre Mains (Evangelion 3.33 OST) - if two boys have four hands and they all touch the same piano... is that gay? sounds a little gay to me. also i just love four hand piano pieces x’D something fun about them
We’re So Far Away (Mae) - i don’t always understand why or how, but you’ve changed everything. at least a little bit. hopefully changes for the better :’3
Happiness Writes White (Harvey Danger) - i still don’t know if i’m ever truly happy. it’s hard to tell because it doesn’t usually show. it’s so much easier to feel and express pain or anger or sadness. there’s something there though. even if it’s only a blank page sometimes x’3
Sick Jan (Chris Fleming) - bonus song cause how could i not x’D we all have a sick jan inside us. just waiting.

Monthly Listening: July 2017
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’ve not posted my anticipated albums for August. I’ve been very behind on my Soundcloud queue, and peeking into music news on other sites has become more of a chore, so I actually have not actively kept up with new music releases at all this month. Hence, me not having many albums I’m waiting to hear. I totally feel the effects from me slacking whenever I choose a new album to listen to: a good amount here has been catch ups from previous months, or so how it feels. Hopefully I can fix this slump for the next round.
Highlights from this month, from left to right:
Kayoko Yoshizawa -- Houkiboshi Zukan (e-stretch, 2015)
BiSH -- Killer BiSH (Avex Trax, 2016)
Japanese Breakfast -- Soft Sounds from Another Planet (Dead Oceans, 2017)
