This scene!!!! This scene!!!!! They actually followed the novel and gave us SYL x Ka Dan's night of passion AAAAAAAA AAAAAAAA AAAAAAA

The way he doesn't raise his eyes as she removes her shirt OMG OMG OMG OMG this is so Si Yi Lin.

Of course she has to take the first move of not just removing her shirt but starting to remove his - he needs the clearest go ahead he can get. AAAAAA Only then does he dare to raise his eyes to hers.

For a cdrama, and not a short one, this is INSANELY explicit. Like - this is stuff you normally see in short cdramas and often not even then. LIKE AAAAAAAAAAA SORRRRRRRRRRRRRY this is my fave OTP in this show and I am FEASTING!!!!

I love how the light the morning after is the grim grey one, as contrasted with the golden one of their night. And he's gone to battle and she's left behind. And the sole spot of light is her reflection in that mirror, there are still little dimmed golden remnants.

Oooooof! That flashback to them talking during the night.

This drama breaks my heart in 17 different pieces even in its tenderest moments.

finished the mortal arc (up to ep 29 or 30? idr) of till the end of the moon! #thoughts:

the way ep 25 gave me everything i wanted from this show since i hit play. I WAS PATIENT AND I WAS REWARDED fuck you dream arc you didnt break me

bai lu has so much charisma and i love her, but gd is this luo yunxi’s show. the way he’s willing to give the ugly facial expressions and ughhhhhhhhhhh go off king i might actually have to pick up love is sweet again

the way bingchang and xiao lin/their actors continue to do the absolute least for me across the universe. nothing nowhere all at once

i know this isnt the case, but it would be 1000x more interesting if cat!monk guy forged xiao lin’s final letter to bingchang so he could emotionally break her and collect her tears for whatever the fuck this show has going on next

ye qing yu being Tragically Responsible while tantai jin is wallowing in his own morbidly romantic self-destruction was so good and i loved watching how these parallel love stories both wrapped up 

nian baiyu wins “most dedicated to his boss while ununionized” award

killed me that nian baiyu’s like. chopping wood in the rustic countryside for 500 years like a war widow awaiting her beloved as tantai jin goes synchronized swimming in acid soul water. notice him, senpai!!!

these eps were doing too much with the blood packets. one single dribble from the corner of your lips: beautiful, tragic. a chunk of coagulated koolaid on your chin for multiple scenes: sir no

i wanted to give tantai jin a bib with a lobster on it to catch all that blood cough, seriously

im kind of having the same problem i did while watching the legends, a drama i didnt finish but really enjoyed: i know this is the narrative Peak for me and am content/am therefore not super motivated to start the next arc

that said the outfits for the cultivator life look fabulous, so

SO INTO wang yi fei playing si ying/an out-and-out baddie -- THIS IS IT. THIS IS HER LOOK. ive really liked her since ashes of love, and would love her playing more straight up villains like this in the future

You might recognize most of the production team as the people who worked on the MDZS audio drama, so I’m very assured that they will only have grown more experienced. Tbh I’m a little surprised by the lead VAs...excited to hear what their performances will be like!

Even more exciting: apparently the audio drama has been adapted from the revised edition of TGCF which includes 100k extra words!!!

Gank Your Heart

mmm.... mmm.... mmm

Beh che dire?

E' finita.

Dopo 35 episodi - che potevano essere benissimo una venticinquina - di angst, drammi, cose a cazzo, forzature, personaggi of characters, love story traballanti ed altre cose - sono finalmente arrivata alla fine, di quella che posso dire esser stata una delle serie che mi è piaciuta meno quest'anno.

Chiariamoci: ho visto cose ben peggiori di Gank. Serie da 4 soldi viste solo da me, con badget sotto lo zero, girate sotto i ponti, con attori presi direttamente al canile ed il copione scritto su carta igenica. roba per fini intenditori

Ma Gank ha il "merito" di essere - sulla carta - una bella serie. Non solo per la presenza di Yibo ( fulgida stella ) ed altri volti noti, ma anche per una storia carina che mischia i temi tipici degli e-sport ( l'amicizia, il lottare per realizzare i propri sogni, antagonismo costruttivo...) con il romanticismo più sentimentale.

Motivo per il quale non c'era nessuna ragione affinché non mi piacesse. Sulla carta aveva tutto il necessario per essere una serie quantomeno attraente.

E allora, perché non lo è stata?!

Prima di questo, voglio spezzare una lancia alle cose positive della serie:

L'amicizia

Punto focale di qualsiasi drama che parli di sport - soprattutto quelli di gruppo - è il rapporto tra i membri del team. E Gank crea delle relazioni amicali davvero belle. E non sto parlando solo della squadra finale Phoenix ma anche del legame che i vari giocatori creano con i propri compagni.

Penso ad esempio a Kong e Lin Yi Xuan o Pei Xi e Xia Ling. Ma ce ne sono tante altre nella serie che mi sono piaciute molto e che credo ben fatte e ben costruite.

Si vede, da parte degli addetti ai lavori, la cura che hanno messo nell'affrontare questa tematica e renderla centrale.

Pei Xi e Luo Tian

Che questi due personaggi siano rimasti nel cuore dello spettatore, forse più dei lead, non mi stupisce.

Pei Xi è sicuramente stato il mio personaggio preferito dell'intera serie e mio MVP morale. Nonché unico motivo che, certe volte, mi dava la forza di andare avanti quando l'irritazione raggiungeva livelli da ospedale.

Pei Xi infatti è uno dei pochi personaggi che compie un evoluzione, rendendolo uno dei characters più realistici e umani della serie. Ho adorato il suo rapporto con Kong, la loro iniziale rivalità atta al miglioramento che poi sfocia in un affetto quasi fraterno. E che dire del suo legame con Xia Ling? Quando nel finale il ragazzo più giovane è in difficoltà, preso dai dubbi e dalla tristezza, ho trovato stupendo che sia stato proprio Pei Xi a tirarlo fuori dalla melma ed a rimetterlo in piedi. Non la sorella. Non Kong. Non i genitori. Ma Pei Xi.

E poi c'è Luo Tian. Il commentatore dal cuore gelido e severo ma che in realtà è un pezzettino di pane. Ho amato la sua professionalità, l'amore visibile per il suo lavoro e la fermezza con cui insegnava alla lead, rendendolo un insegnante eccellente e competente. Divino.

Che Luo Tian sia un essere superiore è poi cosa ovvia: basta una sua parola e come Mosè che apre le acque del Mar Morto, così i personaggi rinsaviscono, ritrovando magicamente la ragione oppure si pentono dei loro peccati, illuminati sulla via del rammarico.

AMEN.

La storia di Xia Ling

Carina è stata anche la storia di Xia Ling.

Il suo terribile infortunio che lo porta ad una comprensibile brutta depressione è stato un bel momento per la serie, sia per una questione di realisticità, sia per esplorare la psicologia dei personaggi, rendendoli più veri e umani.

L'asocialità, la tristezza, il rapporto con i genitori, il giudizio della gente, il sentirsi inutili e disperati per non poter più fare ciò che si ama... credo che la serie in questo frangente sia stata davvero brava.

Anche il fatto che Xia Ling sia il più "fragile emotivamente" del gruppo è stata una cosa positiva per me, poiché contestualizzava la giovane età del ragazzo ed il suo essere il novellino del team, bisognoso sì di protezione ma con enormi potenzialità.

I sogni dei due lead

Altra cosa che ho apprezzato è che entrambi i due protagonisti avessero un obiettivo e lottassero per raggiungerlo. Qui nessuno è la spalla o il mero interesse amoroso di nessuno ma vivono le loro vite per ottenere ciò che vogliono, sostenendosi a vicenda ed incoraggiandosi uno con l'altro.

E questo è oro che cola.

E qui il pensiero corre a Go Go Squid. XD

L'impegno che entrambi mettono nel raggiungere i loro obbiettivi è ben visibile e mi è piaciuto molto il fatto che lottassero per i fatti loro ma che al contempo avessero l'uno e l'altra per incoraggiarsi ed aiutarsi a vicenda, senza essere invadenti.

Bene. Le cose positive sono finite.

Andiamo a ciò che non mi è piaciuto:

La scrittura

Allora, io credo che il problema più grande di Gank Your Heart sia la sua scrittura. A tratti scialba, superficiale, piena di buchi e semplificazioni, con clichè su clichè , dialoghi ripetitivi e con personaggi piatti o che - cosa ancora più grave - venivano sacrificati nella loro caratterizzazione in nome della trama.

Non c'è cosa che odio di più che vedere un personaggio presentato in un certo modo, che si comporta con un certo atteggiamento, cambiare all'improvviso perché la storia lo richiede.

Ma andiamo con ordine.

La trama non è male. La storia in se, pur non essendo niente di eccezionale o di nuovo, è carina ed ha alcuni elementi di novità apprezzabili.

Ma appunto è anche troppo allungata: problematiche che sono risolvibili in mezza giornata, diventano infinite e la serie s'inventa cinquanta escamotage per tirarla per le lunghe, immolando la coerenza narrativa e la logica perché tengano botta fino alla fine. E qui mi sto riferendo alla ex di Yibo nella parte finale della storia o anche a tutte le volte che la lead è fuggita dal lead, bloccandolo in tutti i modi e diventando così campionessa di ghosting selvaggio. Oppure penso al manager dei Legends, personaggio dipinto come invincibile per svariati episodi per poi crollare in due secondi quando la storia non aveva più bisogno di lui.

Ovviamente i due lead riescono a realizzare i loro sogni - che ve lo dico a fare - ma ho trovato il conseguimento di quello di Qiu Ying molto facilitato. Non nego l'impegno che ha messo nel farlo ma rimango perplessa per la velocità con cui ha raggiunto tale risultato: considerando che scopre il suo sogno intorno al 14° episodio, diventa campionessa locale del gioco circa al 22° - senza averci mai giocato prima - e commentatrice ai mondiali dieci episodi dopo, mi chiedo se non sarebbe stato meglio se Qiu Ying avesse almeno saputo sin dall'inizio come funzionava il gioco ed il mondo dell'esport. Invece è passata dall'esserne digiuna per diversi episodi, fino ad arrivare ad esserne espertissima nel giro di quello che per me è stato pochissimo tempo.

Il risultato è stato quello di lasciami in bocca quel sapore di forzatura: "dobbiamo dare anche alla lead per forza qualcosa legato all'esport. Ma cosa? Ah si, facciamo che faccia la commentatrice." Insomma, poco naturale. ma qui c'è poco di naturale

Passiamo poi ai personaggi. Come detto sopra, per me si salvano solo i secondari. Mi tocca bocciare sia Kong che Ying. E non per colpa loro. I due attori poi, sono stati bravissimi e si vede che hanno dato il massimo. Lei poi è bellissima e lui ... beh una gioia per gli occhi.

Il problema per me è che sono personaggi noiosi. Bravi, belli, dolci, gentili, compassionevoli fino al sacrificio, intelligenti, professionali, seri. Non hanno un cacchio di difetto manco a pagarlo oro. Probabilmente puntano alla santità.

Nemmeno di fronte a palesi ingiustizie, cattiverie, invidie e gelosie viene fuori il loro lato più umano e vero. Quello che ti fa incazzare come una bestia, fare cose stupide magari, arrabbiarti con chi non c'entra nulla, fare errori o cazzate. Niente. E quindi mi hanno dato per tutto il tempo quella sensazione di finto, di buonismo a tutti i costi.

Chi paga di più per la cattiva scrittura è comunque Kong che poraccio si sarà ripulendo le orecchie dopo tutte le imprecazioni che gli ho tirato ogni volta che c'era di mezzo la sua ex.

Il tapino infatti, nonostante avesse scritto il suo amore per la lead su tutti i muri della Cina, diventava stranamente muto ogni qualvolta Mi Ya reclamava il suo cuore. Strano, per uno che c'era stato presentato come un tipo che non aveva paura di dire quello che pensava, uno deciso e chiaro! Soprattutto nella sua relazione con la lead.

Ovviamente, l'omertà fuori carattere non era casuale. Serviva per creare angst nella coppia principale e riempire episodi ed episodi di angoscia e lacrime.

Ma.... Ma il vero risultato che ne è uscito fuori è un Kong che tiene il piede in due scarpe, proclamando amore per la lead e al contempo uscendo con la ex senza darci nessun motivo plausibile.

Bastava un dialogo. Un dialogo chiarificatore che risolvesse le cose. Ed invece no. Perché i dialoghi importanti - che esulano dal sogno da raggiungere - e che siano più terra terra, non ci sono stati dati. Per inciso, non sappiamo nulla della famiglia di Kong o di come sia andata davvero la storia della famiglia di Ying con la morte della madre ed il matrimonio successivo.

Tutti quei dialoghi chiarificatori e svelatori di risposte ma anche di animo umano, non ci sono. E quindi la lead e la matrigna fanno pace tenendosi per mano, i due lead si rimettono insieme nel finale senza parlare di quello che è successo, l'allenatrice e Sun Ze Yi si ri fidanzano senza discuterne....

PS: ho "adorato" il finale della serie. Seriamente, l'idea di far rimettere insieme i due lead per la vittoria senza avere manco una parola su Mi Ya e tutto il dramma attorno ad esso, è stato geniale. C'erano sti due che si abbracciavano tutti contenti ed io che pensavo:-" ma...ma... si rimettono insieme cosi?!" Ma Ying non lo aveva lasciato anche perché si prendesse cura di Mi Ya? Kong non aveva detto che con il tempo avrebbe spiegato tutto alla ragazza e avrebbe risolto le cose? Perché non lo stanno effettivamente risolvendo e stanno facendo finta che non sia mai successo?! Geniale.

Ultima cosa che certifica il mio pensiero sulla brutta scrittura, riguarda i cattivi della storia. Scrivere un eroe, un personaggio positivo è sempre più facile di un bel cattivo. I personaggi negativi sono difficili da creare perché è un attimo che ti diventano della macchiette che stanno nella storia solo per avere il ruolo di villain e creare difficoltà agli eroi di turno, senza aggiungere nulla all'economia emotiva della storia.

Gank non si discosta da questo, mettendo in scena ben tre cattivi uno peggio dell'altro:

Il manager dei Legend ad esempio, oltre ad aver quasi violentato la lead ed averla fatta franca - BRAVI - era uno stronzo perché si. Odiava Kong con una cattiveria così omicida che la motivazione del suo accanimento, sembrava esagerata. In pratica voleva buttarlo fuori dalla squadra perché non seguiva i suoi ordini preferendo allenarsi piuttosto che fare pubblicità.

Reato punibile con la morte a quanto pare. O almeno una colpa così grave da giustificare autogol economici pur di rovinargli la reputazione. Ho riso tantissimo quando mi sono accorta che sto tizio stava mandando in bancarotta la sua stessa azienda... tutto per licenziare Yibo! XD Bravo.

Gli altri due villain li metto insieme perché sono effettivamente una coppia. Anche per loro, l'odio che nutrivano per i protagonisti, le cattiverie che gli hanno inferto, le meschinità e via dicendo, sono sembrate esagerate. Alla luce anche del fatto che ovviamente i due lead erano sempre innocenti come agnellini e che mai hanno fatto qualcosa di male.

La coppia d'oro ci è stata presentata che già odiava i due lead. Senza manco conoscerli o senza manco che avessero fatto qualcosa. Così. Di default.

La serie vorrebbe farmi credere che questa malignità derivasse dall'invidia e dalla gelosia per i due lead ma... piccoli angeli...mica sono nata ieri sera! Quando uno è invidioso o geloso, lo nasconde. A meno che non abbia 5 anni e non sappia gestire le proprie emozioni.

Qiao Xin e Qi Yue invece mostravano un palese astio per i due protagonisti, stando in questa serie solo per creare difficoltà ai due lead per poi venir illuminati dal perdono in una scena che mi ha fatto cadere letteralmente le braccia.

Quanto sarebbe stato bello se Qiao Xin fosse stata effettivamente una rivale qualificata per la lead? Un motivo di miglioramento per Ying che mostrasse effettivamente la sua bravura, non perché la sua rivale era una stronza che faceva giochini meschini e quindi Ying era l'unica commentatrice rimasta ma perché effettivamente competente nel suo lavoro, dopo aver "sconfitto" la sua rivale sul suo stesso campo. E invece no. Mi sono toccate scene di calunnie, giochetti sporchi che hanno avuto il solo risultato di autoeliminazione per Qiao Xin.

Ma d'altronde cosa posso aspettarmi da una serie che inserisce la rivale della lead nel mondo dei commentatori ad mentula canis? Quando ho visto Qiao nel programma Stelle di domani ho davvero capito la povertà narrativa del drama: mai, fino a quel momento, Qiao aveva espresso desiderio di diventare commentatrice.

Mai.

Ma guarda un po', le viene il ghiribizzo proprio quando c'è anche la lead come partecipante. Il caso.

E quando la lead vince il concorso e quindi si assicura il posto ma scopre che anche Qiao lavorerà con lei perché entrata per vie traverse, ho capito che la serie avrebbe fatto di tutto, contraddicendosi pure, pur di averle per forza nello stesso spazio e continuare la rivalità.

E va beh, è andata cosi.

Rispondendo poi a @lisia81 che mi chiedeva se avessi preferito questa serie a Falling Into Your Smile, ti dico che sì, continuo a preferire Falling.

La sua storia è molto meno impegnativa e più semplice, i personaggi vivono meno drammi, la recitazione della lead è quello che è, il lead sta lì per bellezza.... ma continuo a preferirlo anche solo per la scrittura.

Falling per quanto semplice è scritto bene, in modo chiaro e narrativamente coerente. I personaggi non vanno fuori di carattere in base alla trama e mi sono piaciuti anche a livello di personalità o modo di reagire agli eventi.

E infine, mi è piaciuto di più anche per via del gioco in sé. Falling ti permetteva di entrare nella partita tramite animazione, rendendo tutto un po' più immersivo e comprensibile. Nelle partite di Gank invece ci ho sempre capito pochissimo e certe volte intuito che avevamo vinto o perso o che stava andando bene o male, solo dalla reazione dei giocatori.

Concludendo:

Gank è per me una serie relax. Una di quelle perfette se vuoi rilassarti senza pensare a nulla o ragionare su niente. Perché appena azioni il cervello si sfragne tutto.

Mischia benissimo le tematiche proprie dell'esport e quelle romantiche, con una storia d'amore ben costruita che può scaldare il cuoricino e farti una bella coccola, mentre ti godi le belle amicizie e la lotta di ognuno per raggiungere i propri sogni.

Meritevoli i personaggi secondari dove sembra che la serie si sia concentrata per renderli più veri e umani dei protagonisti che pur essendo carini da vedere, rimangono per me dimenticabilissimi.

Il dramma, come detto sopra, rimane la scrittura della serie che inficia tutta la narrazione, soprattutto per me che sono una cagacazzi critica e che mal sopporto tutte le problematiche legate ad una scrittura dubbia.

I couldn't find the novel Eternal Brotherhood is based on translated (being desperate enough to MTL in one, two...)

But I did find the donghua based on it and the styling differences are wild because in the donghua it's very much Western ethos of something like Napoleonic era with armor thrown in. I love it, but it would have looked hella weird in live action.
