On their travels through regional and European stages, the Slovenian sensation stopped by in Rijeka, putting on a concert spectacle for the Rijeka audience in the sold out Pogon Kulture.
Huge international hype, triggered by the recognisable song “Carpe Diem”, threw this Slovenian indie rock five into a demanding concert tempo which has resulted in several European mini tours, confirming the growing popularity of the band outside of their country’s borders.
Despite their dense schedule of sold out concerts, just before the sound check, we caught the members of the band, frontman Bojan Cvjetićanin and guitarist Kris Guštin, and talked with them more about all current events and changes that will follow in the upcoming time period.
A series of “flying” gigs
“Our lifestyle has drastically changed in the last few months. For the first time, we’re travelling as a band and encountering new situations that we’ve never dealt with before, new great experiences and new small problems that, of course, come with it.
More or less, logistics on the road are the biggest problem, but we’ve just returned from our third tour this year. We played in Poland, Lithuania, and Czechia, and it was a really great tour that lasted about two weeks,” said Bojan.
Rijeka, as the last concert in the current cycle, marks the end of travelling with a tour bus. After a week of rest, the band will go on a series of “flying gigs”, which includes Skopje, Munich, The Hague, Amsterdam, Madrid, Barcelona, and, of course, Slovenia at the end of the year.
The fact that Joker Out has already won the hearts of the audience is certainly confirmed by the awarding of "Carpe Diem" with a Golden Record in Finland, as well as recognition by the prestigious booking agency Wasserman.
“We have always welcomed people into the team according to some key to enter our circle more or less naturally, and we were lucky when things rose to the point where actually Ryan, our booking agent from Wasserman, got in contact with us because he was at our concert in London.
He liked how things worked and wanted to start working together, so we were more than happy with the fact that a man from abroad was the first to join our team, somebody who first enjoyed our performance and saw a bigger picture and saw himself as a part of it, in maybe an even bigger version, in the next few years,” revealed Bojan.
Tumblr media
Käärijä and Let 3
As much as the process of recognition and breakthrough came suddenly, the discography of the band came at a similar pace. From their beginnings in Ljubljana in 2016, they released their first album only five years later, and the second one - less than a year after the first.
The longer process of musical growth, which began in the band’s high school days, dictated the slow pace of searching for their own sound in singles which eventually, with disruptions due to COVID, culminated in their first serious discography steps, and then in the revolution called Eurovision.
Lightning fast popularity has brought a series of strong music acquaintances to the band, of which their close relationship with Käärijä and Let 3 certainly stand out.
“We met Käärijä at a pre-party in Madrid, he was on a similar energy level as us - he didn’t take himself too seriously and we didn’t either. He was quite open-minded and had a positive approach to the whole situation, so we really connected on that level during Eurovision when huge things were happening to everyone, in the form of media pressure and new situations every day, so it suited us all to have each other to share those feelings.
We stayed in regular contact, we even performed together during our Finnish tour. He left literally everything he had scheduled in his calendar and became a part of the band for four days,” Bojan and Kris remembered.
In a way, the Jokers are an even bigger anomaly in a region marked by a certain language barrier towards its western parts. Despite the cultural and genre homogeneity, Joker Out managed to suspend the primacy of “Serbian and Croatian trap folk music”, showing and proving that Slovenian shagadelic rock and roll also has a place in this whole genre cauldron.
Tumblr media
There’s nothing like it in the Balkans
The guys therefore confirm that Slovenia has a lot of quality to offer in terms of new artists, and concert events as well, which are richer compared to the rest of the region.
“Before we started with ex-Yugoslavia, there was always the question of if there was space for a band of this type in the Balkans, because we know this genre of music isn’t the most popular right now. Actually, there’s no band like this in the Balkans, maybe just Buč Kesidi, so we didn’t know what to expect in terms of our popularity in these regions.
I think everything went really well, we were surprised how many people were eager to hear a live band, regardless of the language they sing in,” Kris pointed out.
And it seems that the regional (and worldwide) audience welcomes every new Joker Out show with open arms, because they sing along with equal intensity to the melodies in Slovenian, and also in English, which will certainly take over the steering wheel of the band’s creative direction in the coming period.
The same is evident in the fruitful collaboration with Elvis Costello, who was delighted with the single ‘Novi Val’ and earlier this year joined in the English version of the song, ‘New Wave’, and also the latest single ‘Sunny Side of London’ - which leaves little room for doubt about where Joker Out will set up their new creative camp.
“Next year in January we are moving to London, where we plan to absorb new energies in an unfamiliar living space, so we will change our environment in order to create a new album that will be released by the end of October 2024 at the latest.
We will be more in contact with the English language, which on the one hand represents a mental break for us, because we are used to creating music in the Slovenian language, but there will still be all kinds of material - mostly English, but also songs in Slovenian, Serbian, and Croatian,” Bojan and Kris concluded.

First Issue of Meduza's The Beet - "Suing Gorbachev"
I thought I'd share this and I recommend signing up for it to get emailed (as well as to get other Meduza updates)
Hello, and welcome to The Beet! I’m Eilish Hart, the editor of this new email dispatch from Meduza, covering Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. If you’re already a subscriber, thank you! If this message was forwarded to you, sign up here to get our next issue delivered directly to your inbox.
We created The Beet to fill a gap — not only in Meduza’s coverage but also in English-language reporting on the aforementioned regions. Too often, news stories about these parts of the world focus on their place “between Russia and the West,” or fixate on the latest domestic or international crisis. We want to do things differently. So rather than try to keep pace with the news cycle, The Beet brings you one piece of original reporting, every week. Our aim is to dig deeper, amplify local perspectives, and tell interesting stories that might otherwise go overlooked.
It was in this spirit that I commissioned journalist and author Aliide Naylor to write The Beet’s first feature. I contacted Aliide after I came across a news report about a lawsuit filed against the Soviet Union’s last leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, just eight months before his death. Thirty-one years after the USSR’s collapse, a group of Lithuanians sought to hold Gorbachev accountable for the January Events in 1991, when Soviet troops carried out a lethal crackdown in Vilnius, almost a year after Lithuania reasserted its independence. Against the backdrop of glowing eulogies from Western leaders, this lawsuit recalled that Gorbachev’s legacy is nothing if not contentious, especially in countries that struggled to gain independence from Moscow. Indeed, those who describe the USSR’s demise as “bloodless” are papering over quite a bit of bloodshed.

Ramunė Grudzinskienė was 32 years old when Lithuania’s independence struggle boiled over in 1991, and she still remembers it like it was yesterday. A strong community spirit and sense of simmering optimism prophesized that finally, this time, Lithuania would succeed in severing the shackles of the USSR. “The general mood of the nation was very high,” she told The Beet. “We shared sandwiches and tea with strangers.”
Her brother, Gintaras Žagunis, was a border guard at the time. During the January Events, he and his squadmates were guarding the Government House in Vilnius, which he said he would “defend to the death.” Gintaras survived the night — but 14 others were not so lucky.
On January 11, Soviet military units seized a handful of Lithuanian institutions, injuring pro-independence protesters in the process. Overnight on January 12-13, Soviet troops and the KGB special ops “Alpha” squad stormed the Vilnius TV tower, firing blanks at demonstrators and driving tanks into the crowd, crushing civilians. Seamstress Loreta Asanavičiūtė, the only woman killed in this violence, was just 23 years old. Another 700 people were injured.
“It was minus 30 degrees Celsius [minus 22 Fahrenheit] when we buried the January 13 victims, but the streets through which the funeral procession took place were full of people,” recalled Ramunė. “We all stood for as long as we could. I also stood, the heat of the candle warming my frozen hands, thanking God that my brother was not hurt.”
Her relief was short-lived. In May 1991, Gintaras was killed while guarding a border post in Lithuania’s southern Dieveniškės appendix.
“Border posts were attacked all the time. Officers were mocked, beaten, and shot at,” Ramunė said. “Lithuanian officials were helpless in avoiding unnecessary conflicts with Soviet provocateurs.”
The last time she saw her brother was from the window of a bus. He was walking down the street in Vilnius. Had she known what was to happen, she would have stopped to talk to him. The loss permanently scarred her family.
“Until her final day, my mother mentioned him all the time, [preserving] his memory. I also buried my mother a year ago,” she said.
‘The responsibility falls on him’
Ramunė and her mother are just two out of scores of Lithuanians who suffered personal tragedy at the hands of the Soviets. When the USSR’s last leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, died on August 30, the outpouring of admiration confused her. “I don't quite understand the praise,” she said.
Saulius Urbanavičius was just 17 years old when he watched his friend Ignas Šimulionis die on January 13, 1991. “We sat together at the school desk,” he recalled. “These events affected me. I have sacrificed my whole life to work for my country.” Saulius went on to join Lithuanian law enforcement, ultimately becoming the director of the country’s Special Investigation Service and receiving a state award.
Saulius has mixed feelings about the Western response to Gorbachev’s death. Although he acknowledges that Gorbachev initiated Perestroika, Saulius also believes that he ordered the killings of civilians in Vilnius — something Gorbachev always denied (and at one point even claimed to have slept through), but which Lithuanians are eager to prove.
Earlier this year, eight months before Gorbachev died, one group of Lithuanians took things a step further. Relatives of four of the victims killed at the TV tower in 1991 attempted to sue the former Soviet leader, filing a lawsuit with the Vilnius City District Court on January 13, 2022, in a symbolic effort to commemorate their lost loved ones.
They wanted to right the wrongs of the past, said plaintiff Robertas Povilatis, who maintains that Gorbachev lied when he claimed to have been unaware of January 13’s events until the day after the bloodshed.
“We have different documents that show Gorbachev was informed about the military already doing harm in Lithuania,” Robertas said. “He knew the military was doing this aggression, and he didn’t issue any statement or any request to stop that operation, and this is where his responsibility comes [in],” he said. “This is what we tried to show, to prove, in this lawsuit.”
Tumblr media

Robertas has meticulously tracked all the instances of Lithuanian, Canadian, U.S., and NATO officials — among others — making either public statements or contacting Gorbachev’s office privately to discuss Soviet violence in Lithuania in the days leading up to what would become known as Bloody Sunday.
Even Lithuanians who might not have spent time assessing the validity of Gorbachev’s claims of ignorance feel that as head of state, he ought to shoulder the blame. “I understand that one person cannot rule the whole country, that there is a whole team, but he is the leader of that team, so all the responsibility falls on him,” said Ramunė.
Robertas himself was just 14 when the Soviets killed his father, Apolinaras Povilaitis. He doesn’t like talking about it, but he is eager and determined to obtain historical justice if actual justice is out of reach.
“It was a pity to see this glorification of Gorbachev,” Robertas said shortly after the Soviet leader’s death. “He is seen as a hero by many people.”
Rectifying the public perception of Gorbachev’s legacy is a major part of Robertas’ battle. “I think the most important thing for me was to raise these questions. When the [Vilnius] court accepted the lawsuit, I think that sent a very serious message; that the court of [...] an EU country decided to look into Gorbachev’s responsibility in those killings,” he said.
After the Soviet Union’s collapse, independent Lithuania’s officials moved quickly and started investigating more than 60 people involved in the repressions of the early 1990s. The process slowed, but the country ultimately convicted 67 people in absentia in 2019 — including former Soviet Defense Minister Dmitry Yazov. (Yazov was 94 years old when he was found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in the January 1991 crackdown.) While Gorbachev was not a suspect in this criminal case, he was summoned to testify as a witness. However, he never appeared in court, prompting the civil litigation.
It’s unlikely that Robertas ever realistically expected his legal action to conclude with Gorbachev appearing in a Vilnius court. In the end, the lawsuit was terminated at the beginning of September, after Gorbachev died.
‘Extreme measures’
Una Bergmane, a Latvian postdoctoral researcher at Helsinki University, also casts doubt on Gorbachev’s account of the January Events. “Gorbachev writes about it in his memoirs, arguing that the whole attack was planned behind his back,” she said in emailed comments to The Beet. “But that is just not convincing if we look at how events unfolded at the time.”
In Latvia, the West’s positive commemoration of Gorbachev roused similar distaste and was “upsetting on a very personal level” for many, she added.
As in Lithuania, Moscow used force against the hundreds of thousands of civilians who took to Riga’s streets in January 1991 to protect Latvia’s newfound independence from the Soviet Union. They erected barricades to protect political and communications infrastructure. Six people, including a high school student, were killed in the ensuing violence, mere days after the civilian deaths in Lithuania.
Some of the protesters saw their role as part of a greater, perhaps international movement, having heard about deaths and deception further afield.
Ivars Kalada had personal experience with the Soviet authorities’ deceit: in 1986, the state sent him to Chornobyl under misleading circumstances to help contain the fallout from the nuclear disaster. The government told him that he was being deployed for a 45-day-long training exercise, Kalada told local media. “That’s why we participated in the Baltic Way and the Barricades,” he said.
The Chornobyl disaster killed 31 people immediately, and many more suffered the long-term consequences of radiation exposure, which the UN estimates had the potential to cause another 4,000 eventual deaths. Officials didn’t evacuate the nearby city of Pripyat until the USSR — headed by Gorbachev — was ready to acknowledge the accident (following Moscow’s initial attempt to cover it up).
That same year, Soviet security forces violently suppressed mass youth protests in Kazakhstan. In the days-long marches against the local Soviet leadership, known as Zheltoqsan (“December,” in Kazakh), at least 150 demonstrators died (although estimates vary wildly, and the official toll only acknowledges three fatalities).
“Archival documents show that [Gorbachev] knew, and he and the party took extreme measures to suppress the rallies with special forces riot police that flew directly from Moscow,” said political sociologist Diana T. Kudaibergenova, a lecturer at Cambridge University. “Gorbachev’s involvement in that tragedy is clear to a lot of Kazakhstani citizens.”
Three years later, in what Georgians know as the April 9 tragedy, clashes between the Soviet authorities and pro-independence demonstrators left 21 dead in Tbilisi.
This string of bloody clampdowns makes Gorbachev’s alleged unawareness about the suppression of Lithuania’s pro-independence protests all the more suspect. To have been oblivious to these military actions, Gorbachev would have had to be not sleeping, but comatose, Robertas said. “If he was not in a coma, he knew [about] all developments and allowed them to happen.”
Thanks for reading and stay tuned for next week’s drop! In the meantime, don’t forget that Meduza is relying on readers like you to help support our work, including exciting new projects like The Beet. Until next time,
Eilish

REVIEWS
Christopher Herwig’s obsessional project posthumously illumines the Soviet empire’s taste for the utterly fantastical. It restricts itself to one building type, the bus stop or shelter, which tends in Western Europe to be meanly utilitarian. There is a certain amount of that here. But it is atypical. The norm is wild going on savage. Just as follies were, in the 18th century, often try-outs for new architectural styles, so may some of these wayward roadside punctuation marks have been structural or aesthetic experiments; they certainly don’t lack grandeur and audacity.
The shelters provide an adhoc social service. Further they have granted aspirant sculptors, builders and architects opportunities to flex their creative muscles. Not least they have given a fine photographer that most precious and elusive of quarries – a truly distinctive subject, one which he celebrates with an almost tangible warmth and with a fondness for the anonymous men and women who created them. Jonathan Meades
In Kyrgyzstan there are bus stops shaped like the region's high-crowned kalpak hats, as well as round tapering structures modelled on local yurts. Coloured concrete reliefs rule in the Ukraine, as do mosaics in Moldova, while in the forests of Estonia many bus stops are simple triangular pitched-roof structures, made of the timber that was to hand. Some of the most elaborate structures occur around Pitsunda on the Black Sea, where Khrushchev had his summer dacha. Along these coastal roads, voluptuous sea shells compete with the gaping mouths of gigantic fish, writhing concrete forms heavily encrusted with mosaic tiles, like Gaudí at the seaside.  Oliver Wainwright, The Guardian
This book is an absorbing collection of high-quality photographs, handsomely laid out and designed. Anyone who delves in will find favourites. Kazakh and Kyrgyz designs draw on traditions of horsemanship and falconry. Ukrainian shelters bear vivid, folksy mosaics. Armenian examples are hard and foreboding, while Baltic inventions will please the Ikea crowd. One Moldovan creation, formed from open-fronted dodecahedrons, delivers an SF vibe. Most alien of all are the radiant Gaudí knock-offs in the disputed region of Abkhazia, where Soviet elites once took their beach holidays (inside one of these someone has written, ‘Bitches took away freedom’). Roland Elliott Brown, The Spectator
Over 150 photographs of architectural exuberance dotting the streets and highways of the vast country… Although many of these structures are falling into disrepair from age and neglect, that they still exist is a testament to how meaningful they must have been in an otherwise homogenous built environment. Herwig's tenacity and devotion to accomplishing a project of this scale is extraordinary. John Foster, Design Observer

Airmen's Club Adventures in Saudi Arabia
The Airmen's Club Audenis welcomed the year 2020 in the Middle East - in the Al Ula Valley in Saudi Arabia.
You can find photos in our gallery , and here are the adventures in detail:
December 30 we're trying to jump on the outgoing 2019 hot air balloon event bandwagon. This time the destination is very exotic, we are going to a hundred balloon event in Saudi Arabia. This is our second visit to this little-known country, and our experience allows us to foresee certain surprises that sooner or later we will still have to face in the Arab world. However, at the very beginning, as soon as the plane from Istanbul to Medina lands, we find out that we have no place to live in Al-Ula, where we fly.
So, will we welcome the New Year in Medina and many other questions to which no one gives answers. Due to the inexplicably long check-in at the reception, we can only get the hotel beds at around 5 o'clock in the morning.
The next day we sleep until noon. Later we find out that we will spend one more night in Medina. We decide not to waste time and see the city. The Uber driver asks if we are Muslim. After receiving a negative answer, he calls someone who immediately informs us that we are forbidden to visit the central part of the city and offers to take us somewhere on the outskirts of the city. We agree on an intermediate option. We get off about a couple of kilometers from the center and continue on foot. Near the mosque, not wanting to risk it, we ask the policeman. He replies that we can look around. One of the largest mosques in the world is truly impressive. First of all, its size is enchanting. The red glow of the evening sky deepens the impression. Thousands of worshipers flocking inside heighten the sense of mystique.
We return to the hotel, where a New Year's festive dinner awaits us. 12 o'clock New Year's greetings are displayed in the hotel's restaurant in various languages of the world. Hour difference with Lithuania. We call and congratulate the housemates.
We leave the hotel at 8:30 in the morning. Five buses have to take us 400 km to a city in the middle of the desert called Al-Ula. This is where the Winter at Tantora event takes place. The journey takes 6 hours. a couple of stops to exercise the legs. The road stretches monotonously through the desert with poor vegetation and herds of camels and goats grazing here and there. The monotony of the trip is diversified by the chains of pink sand rocks and the camels that run into the road, forcing the bus to stop.
We arrive at Al-Ula. The nearby 2,000-year-old ancient Nabataean site, Madein Saleh, where 130 monumental rock tombs have been found, is the first site in Saudi Arabia to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our event center is located right next to this area. We go to the center, where we unpack the balloons, fill the cylinders with gas and move towards the accommodation, a picturesque campsite at the foot of the rocks. The next morning we find out that we live right next door to a very impressive mirrored structure built in the desert in 2018, the Mariah Concert Hall, where Winter at Tantora concert events such as Andrea Bocelli, Jose Carreras and other exclusive events have been scheduled for the next few days.
We collapse into bed because we have an early morning flight in the desert.
We get up at 4:30, get dressed and head towards the bus that will take us to the airstrip. We are trying to wake up the bus driver. We knock on the door and after waiting for a few minutes, he starts the bus. There is a breeze in the campsite. This is the influence of the gorge between the rocks. Thus, the fears of those participating in the event for the first time due to excessive wind are not confirmed at all. A calm ascent, at lower altitudes we move very slowly to the south, higher up we turn around and move faster and faster to the north. Mountain ranges stretch to the right and left. Piloted by Ignas. A great opportunity to refresh your piloting skills. Let's go in the desert. Our team, the driver is a local Arab who lives in Al-Ula and has a hard time picking up English words. But a wide smile betrays that this morning's performance in heaven was a success. All hundred pilots of the event are divided into four groups: yellow, blue, orange and red. Depending on which group you are in, your flight schedule and evening illuminations will be on certain days. Only on January 3 and 4, all one hundred balloons will rise into the sky.
So on January 3 extraordinary commotion at the center of the airmen's event. The organizers' decision to change the team's drivers and cars every morning has the predicted results. The slight chaos of finding a way to transport your balloon to the airfield eventually ends with a hundred balloons lined up in three rows. Dusk is torn apart not only by the rays of the rising sun, but also by the multitude of lit fans. One by one, multicolored balloons rise into the sky above Madain Saleh. Very calm winds allow pilots to explore the terrain of the UNESCO heritage site. After playing, some do not notice that the gas is running out and, violating the strict rule of the organizers, they go inside the protected area. As we find out later, they will be subject to severe sanctions, disqualification and no further opportunity to participate in this event.
The following day once again pampers the pilots of one hundred balloons with excellent weather conditions, unforgettable views, and the hospitality of the local people.
January 6 we wake up not only with the mood of another future flight, but also with a kind of excitement for the planned World Guinness Record attempt in the evening, the essence of which is the world's longest night illumination of hot air balloons. It is planned to light 3 km at a time. long string of balloons standing in a row. A lot of organizational details, tuning, radio communication, and already almost midnight, dusk is illuminated by an impressively long rainbow of light and colors. The record is registered, we become part of history. The following day is a free day from flights. We receive an offer from the organizers for an exclusive entertainment - a jeep safari in the desert. 12 o'clock 15 luxury jeeps arrive at the meeting point, driven by local Arabs, who kindly agreed to show around the area and help understand the peculiarities of driving in the desert. A line of cars moves out of the campsite. The first destination is the highest point of Al-Ula, which has an observation deck that allows you to rest your eyes on the impressive mountain ranges surrounding the city. The temperature here drops by five degrees. Pleasantly cool. Our driver, an intelligent 45-year-old Arab dressed in luxurious textiles, tells us that this place is a special favorite of theirs. Looking down, he mentions the interesting fact that the city rests on large aquifers, and for the latter reason we see an unusual amount of greenery. that this place is a special favorite of theirs. Looking down, he mentions the interesting fact that the city rests on large aquifers, and for the latter reason we see an unusual amount of greenery. that this place is a special favorite of theirs. Looking down, he mentions the interesting fact that the city rests on large aquifers, and for the latter reason we see an unusual amount of greenery.
We continue our journey. Before entering the desert, car tires are deflated to give cars more clearance. We fly through the desert, suddenly rising or falling unexpectedly from wind-blown sand dunes. Sometimes we stop at spectacular rock formations to hear local stories, sometimes on loose sand slopes to see the skills of the safari drivers. The day passes like an hour. In the evening, we stop at the foot of a huge rock, where a bonfire, a picnic, and Arabic tea await us. All this takes on a mystical tone as dusk approaches. Arab drivers present a surprise. In the reflective light of the campfire, they play an Arabic song. We return to the campsite after dark.
January 8 the day when the participants of the Dakar rally, one of the stages, have to finish in Al-Ula. The day begins with a desperate search for the finishing position of the rally stage. We ask everyone, but we hear a variety of versions: Elephant Rock, Madein Saleh access, on the outskirts of Al-Ula and so on. Finally, the organizers offer everyone to go to the observation deck in the desert, at the foot of which the spectators, after a long wait, see cars whistling by at high speed.
January 9 the flight will be remembered as one of the most impressive flights of the event. The morning, as always, meets with darkness and freezing cold. As soon as the first rays of the sun attempt to cross the horizon, painting the desert and rocks with an ominous red, the first meteo probes rise into the sky. As they spin, they rise up until they finally find a clear direction in the vastness of the sky. After a short briefing, we move to the takeoff field. With calloused fingers, we pull the dome, the bag, the fan. A car driver wrapped in a camel wool blanket does not want to leave the comfort zone. But, he smiles and helps Igna and I prepare the balloon. This morning we are flying two passengers, Arabs from Riyadh. A calm, northwesterly breeze blows in the lower layers. We need at least a 40 degree left wind to reach Madein Saleh. We jump to an altitude of 5000 feet and drift towards the goal with several balloons still trying to reach Madein Saleh. We drift towards the goal. After reaching it, we quickly glide down and find ourselves in the very center of the rock formation. Passengers are impressed. "Wow… all we can say." We go down in the desert.
Friday starts very unexpectedly. Getting on the bus early in the morning, we learn that the bus drivers are on strike. The reason is unpaid wages. We wait for about an hour while the company managers solve the problems by phone. We are finally moving. In the afternoon, the forecasted rain decides to surprise. It starts to rain. Tomorrow is the last day of the event. We start packing the balloons.  Snow force, a Dubai company hired to help,  promptly organizes various works. The Pakistanis working in the company are really hardworking guys. Before the trip, we have to empty the gas cylinders. We are going to the takeoff field. The flames of the burners begin to lick the red desert landscape. It doesn't even take an hour, the cylinders are empty.
The journey back to Madinah takes less than five hours. At the airport, we say goodbye to our colleagues  and aircraft take off at different times and in different directions to different countries of the world.

Romanticism
Has a certain reverence for the relationship between our spiritual inner world vs. Our external natural world - the sublime
Strictly anti-war - due to his own experiences with it in post WW2 Japan
Draws from Japanese philosophies - shinto and animism
Importance of food and how its presented in Miyazaki’s stories and art
He’s an animator before he is a director, often drawing out his ideas before coming up with a story - totoro was originally just an image of a girl and totoro at a bus stop, and then the story was built around this visual scene.
His unique storyboarding process
His emphasis on movement and motivation/will
Perfectionism
Issues: Miyazaki is an extremely popular animator and as a result may be a bit overdone.
youtube
Lisa Hanawalt
Contemporary American animator
Animator and producer of Bojack Horseman and Tuca and Bertie
Has also published a comic series and three illustrated books
Creates rich, emotional, complex stories using a vibrant and energetic art style
Distinct anthropomorphic character designs
Absurdist, whacky art style that lends itself well to the themes of her projects
Art style can also be very surreal and psychedelic
She deals with many different themes and issues in her work, many of which include women’s/feminist issues as well as mental health
Other themes include abuse, the cycle of abuse, trauma and generational trauma, addiction, mental health, critiques on American culture, and so much more.
Handles mental health and other sensitive topics on one of the best ways I have ever seen in film — the shows and the art style in particular are never gratuitous
Hanawalt’s art emphasises how a certain lack of realism can actually make for better and more effective storytelling.
Wladyslaw Starewicz
Russian historical figure — often regarded as the father of stop motion animation
The cameraman’s revenge (1912) - the birth of stop motion
Used dead bugs as the models. He was an obsessive bug collector in Lithuania who initially just wanted to see his insects dance.
Started when he was commissioned to “show the life of stag beetles,” and he tried to capture a stag beetle fight with no luck
Lucanus Cervus (1910) - his first animation featuring two stag beetles fighting
The Beautiful Leukandia (1912) - the story of Hellen of Tory but with bugs
There were other stop motion animations before him such as Sculptor’s Nightmare (1908) and Dream in Toyland (1908). But it took this European bug collector to elevate it to an art form.
It was because of his attention to detail - like how the cameraman’s tripod could actually unfold its legs
How he made them move - installed wheels and strings in each insect and replaced their legs with plastic or metal ones
Le Roman De Renard (1930) - influenced Fantastic Mr. Fox
Tumblr media
Andy Gent
Contemporary American stop motion animator
Created Wes Andersons stop motion works — Isle of Dogs, Fantastic Mr. Fox
Critiques animal testing — Save Ralph
Immense attention to detail, especially in his backgrounds
Very ambitious in his projects
Impressive use of fur
The 8 month sushi scene
Issues: not enough content — there’s not much information about him, he doesn’t seem to have any independent projects besides Save Ralph, and the creative direction taken in Wes Anderson’s movies cannot be attributed to him.
youtube
Jack Stauber
Award winning American animator on Youtube
Has also done projects for adult swim
Uses mixed media - traditional 2D animation, 3D computer animation, live action, and claymation
Creates his own music for his animations — he did music before he started animation and released his first album at 16
Voices all of his own characters most of the time
Creative and unique character design
Retro/VHS aesthetic feel to his work
Can be strange and off putting
The art style is surreal and not always aesthetically pleasing
His work feels nostalgic and childlike, but there’s also something disturbingly adult about them
Surrealist musical work
Often comedic
Has also delved into psychological horror
His works deals with a variety of topics from childhood abuse to performative activism to mental health issues.
Teeth play a consistent role in Stauber’s work
His use of Microsoft paint
youtube
Charles Huettner
Contemporary American animator
Worked on the Night in the Woods game and Swap meet movie
Currently working on a show around a short film he created in 2016 titled ‘Scavengers’
Has a very interesting colourful art style
Use of colour
Surreal and psychedelic
Impressive world building — good use of soft world building

How to visit Hill of Crosses ( Kryžių kalnas)
Tumblr media
Hill of Crosses is one of the main attractions in Lithuania. As I wrote in my Siauliai post, many people only visit Siauliai to see the hill. During my first visit to Lithuania, I passed visiting this famous attraction. The information on the internet was so complex. There was not any clear information on how to visit there. When I discovered it was indeed a bit problematic but not as much as people overstated, I became kind of furious that I missed out. So, when I had the chance, I went there immediately. The hill looked nothing like I have seen before. Some may think the hill is related to solely religious intentions. But it is not true. The hill has a tragic backstory behind it and should be respected as such. I wanted to create this brief post to help anybody out there struggling to plan their visit.
Tumblr media
If you are newly discovering Lithuania it is normal that you never heard of Hill of Crosses. Even though it is one of the most popular destinations in the country it is not generally known by the public outside the Baltics. Maybe you have seen those memes on the internet and became curious. Hill of Crosses also went viral on social media. A user claimed Lithuania had no vampires by posting a photo of the hill. I am adding a screenshot of that post below. Afterward, many people carried out the joke by telling how it was built to prevent the strongest vampire that is under the hill from escaping. Unfortunately, the reality is of course much more different but also heartbreaking.
Tumblr media
The main story is similar to the Hill of Rebels located in Siauliai city center as to how Hill of Crosses started is also related to the uprisings towards Russians. In the late 18th century, Lithuania became a part of the Russian Empire after the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth parted. Following this, uprising movements happened. Some sources say that families who could not locate bodies of rebels -their loved ones- started putting up symbolic crosses to the hill. Other sources tell that as the Russian tsar has forbidden proper burial in cemeteries families started the hill.
Tumblr media
The hill is now covered with lots of crosses made from wood, metal, and other materials. The number of crosses including the prayer beads and little monuments goes up to a few hundred thousand. People when they visit, leave their crosses too so the number keeps growing. Hence, the Hill of Crosses is both a historical and spiritual place.
Transportation
The main problem with the Hill of Crosses is reaching and leaving there. Public transportation, or basically the bus is a bit problematic but definitely not impossible.
From Siauliai City Center to the Hill of Crosses
1. Hill of Crosses is located around 12 km outside the Siauliai city center. 2. There are no city bus lines that go there.
3. You need to take a bus towards Joniškis from the bus station. Joniškis is a whole other town btw.
4. When you get into the bus, you need to tell the driver to drop you off close to the Hill of Crosses. Make sure to remind the driver during the ride in case they forget.
5. The bus will leave you close to the intersection point of the road that goes towards the hill. You need to walk around 2 km from that point.
Congratulations, you made it. Also, Google shows an Information Centre (Šiaulių rajono turizmo ir verslo informacijos centras) on their map nearby. I personally haven’t seen such a building. There were only farm-fields there.
From Hill of Crosses to the Siauliai City Center
You will probably spend around one hour checking out various crosses and monumental items located on the hill. When it is time to leave:
1. Walk back to the point where the bus dropped you off on arrival. 2. Cross the road that runs toward the city center
3. You need to catch a bus coming from Joniškis. There isn’t a bus stop there. You have to catch it by raising your hand or something similar to catch the attention of the bus driver.
4. If you check the bus schedules on Autobusubilietai, you will see the schedules are a bit irregular. So it may not be the case that a bus will immediately come when you arrive at that point. If you miss the bus you need to wait more times out of nowhere.
What I recommend for visiting Hill of Crosses?
If you have a car or are travelling with a car, just drive it here. The road in front of the Hill of Crosses is available for free parking.
Take a BOLT or taxi there. You can ask the driver to wait for you a bit if you think you will be quick. If not you need to call one back again. Another option is taking the Joniskis bus on arrival and calling a BOLT or taxi while coming back if you happen to miss the bus or not looking forward to waiting.
You can also ride your bike there from the city center. The road that goes there is a highway but Lithuanians are really respectful to the bikes and are careful drivers from what I have experienced.
Accommodation and Food
Well, you probably understood that Hill of Crosses is in the middle of (almost) nothing. So it is no surprise if I tell you there are no facilities nearby. If you want to spend the night around or eat something before or after your visit; you need to stop at Siauliai city center.
To read about my accommodation and food suggestions you can check out Visiting Siauliai
Tumblr media
As you see, visiting the Hill of Crosses requires a bit more effort than anywhere usual in Lithuania. However, trust me, it will be worth it! The spirit is so unique here. If you are religious you can also take your own crosses or prayer beads you leave.
Hope this post was clear enough and encouraged you to pay a visit there. When you are there, make sure to also stop by the Siauliai to visit attractions missed by many tourists. Also, now you’re on the road, there are lots of amazing places to visit around Lithuania.

10 Innovations Happening in the Plastics Industry Right Now In 2023
The plastics industry is continually changing and developing fresh, original concepts for recycled plastics and other products. Discover some of the most recent developments taking place right now in the plastics sector by reading on.
New in 2023
Check them out along with the earlier advancements that are set to keep causing waves in the business as we've updated our list with some exciting breakthroughs that have happened in 2023.
1. Microorganisms that can degrade plastics
Ideonella sakaiensis, a bacteria first identified in 2005, has now been demonstrated to eat PET film with a thickness of 0.2 millimetres in around a month, according to a recent article in Asahi Shimbun.
This discovery could have a significant impact on the future of plastics industry recycling and disposal, as PET had previously been thought to be nonbiodegradable due to its petroleum-based origin.
2. Bioplastics for Biodegradable Food Packaging
The interesting field of bioplastics has produced yet another fascinating discovery. Scientists at Kaunas University of Technology in Lithuania have developed a biodegradable plastic that may break down in a compost bin in two years, according to a recent report from Phys.org.
Once this information is made available in plastics industry, it can be used for a variety of things, such as single-use packaging for goods, an alternative to plastic shopping and storage bags, and more.
The fact that the substance the scientists were using, cellulose, needed to be able to be rendered transparent or semi-transparent to match contemporary plastic packaging items, was one of the obstacles they faced. For these purposes, fluid plastic is created by heating normal plastic, however heating cellulose usually results in burning.
3. Toothpaste tubes that can be fully recycled
Colgate, a well-known company, has introduced a recyclable toothpaste tube that is the first to be recognised by the Association of plastics industry Recyclers as part of their effort to support the green movement.
According to plastics industry Today, conventional toothpaste tubes frequently cannot be recycled because they contain a thin coating of aluminium on top of the plastic that makes up the rest of the tube.
However, the material utilised to make this new tube is high-density polyethylene (HDPE), which is frequently used to make plastics industry bottles. Colgate's team had to try a range of layering and composite possibilities before getting the correct malleability required for squeezable toothpaste tubes.
4. Plastic Braces 3D Printed
While plastics industry solutions for braces, such as Invisalign, have been available for some time, you might be able to save some serious cash by printing your own plastic braces at home!
Recently, an undergrad at the New Jersey Institute of Technology decided to create his own pair of braces by 3d printing them for just $60!
5. Shelter using Plastics
The use of recycled plastic in an unconventional construction project is one of the most intriguing modern uses of plastic. A bus stop hub was recently constructed in Hyderabad's Swaroopnagar area using 1,000 plastic water bottles by a social plastics industry company called Bamboo House India.
The bus stop was constructed in just 15 days and currently stands 8 feet tall thanks to its main metal frame and more than 1,000 used plastic bottles. The plastics industry has ambitions to develop a "permanent recycled bus shelter" in the future, but due to the bad weather in the area, they are aware that it might not withstand strong storms.

Top 6 Awful Places on the Earth to Inspire Your Horror Creation A tiny village in Japan populated by dolls. A hill covered with huge crosses. Blood waterfall in East Antarctica. Coffins hung on the cliff side. All these places are not imagined by Stephen King or Clive Barker. They actually exist. Moreover, they are open for tourists.  In this article, we will tell you about 6 awful places that can make your blood creep. They both attract and horrify, and will definitely inspire your horror creation. That's what nightmares and dreamscapes are based on. Nagoro Doll Village, Japan If you have ever travelled through small towns in Japan, you won't be surprised to see typical scenes of rural life. Fishermen, children running to school, elderly couples resting on wooden benches near their houses. All that touches your heart, unless you realise that all these people are dolls. Nagoro Doll Village is located in the picturesque Iya Valley on the island of Shikoku off the beaten path. It attracts tourists with magnificent views of untouched nature and the unhurried pace. As the population of this village is shrinking, dolls are taking the place of its inhabitants. An elderly resident, Tsukimi Ayano started to replace the people who left or died with their life-sized replicas. The dolls outnumber humans by a ratio of 10 to 1, and their number keeps growing. Ayano dreams of making the village full of life again. Until then she is fighting loneliness in such an unusual and creepy way. Walking around Nagoro, you can see life-sized dolls in the most unexpected places like closed classrooms or the old town hall, in the street or at a bus stop, in the park or even in the cemetery. Tsukimi Ayano says that different locations remind her of people who lived here before. Who knows, maybe someday dolls will finally replace all residents of Nagoro. Hill of Crosses, Lithuania [caption id="attachment_628656" align="alignleft" width="204"] Photo by Tom Podmore on Unsplash[/caption] Seven miles from the city of Šiauliai, Lithuania, there is the Hill of Crosses, an amazing and gloomy site of pilgrimage. You may take it for a cemetery, but it is an object of cultural heritage. The history of the Hill of Crosses is connected with wars and uprisings. There are many legends about it, but the real origin is still unknown. The Hill is covered with crosses and crucifixes of various shapes and sizes. In the middle of the XIX century, there were several dozen of them, and much more a hundred years later. Today, their estimated number is around 50,000. In 1993, Pope John Paul II donated the crucifix during his visit to Lithuania. Clearly, a lot of scary stories about processions of the dead and visions of Saints are associated with the Hill of Crosses. Beelitz-Heilstätten Hospital, Germany If you like to tickle your nerves with stories about gloomy abandoned hospitals, here is one of them.  Beelitz-Heilstätten hospital complex strikes the imagination with its size. it includes more than 60 buildings and is justly in the TOP 10 abandoned places and the ruins of modern architecture. Initially, the site was divided in two parts and was planned as a sanatorium for the treatment of tuberculosis. Many seriously ill men and women spent their last days there. During the First World War, it was used as a military hospital where wounded soldiers were nursed, including a young soldier named Adolf Hitler. After the war, the hospital complex got abandoned, although several buildings are still used today. Over time, Beelitz-Heilstätten hospital fell into ruin and now looks like one of the filming locations for “Silent Hill” or “American Horror Story”. Even though it is forbidden to get inside, there are still illegal visitors who dare to walk around the hospital buried in verdure. Blood Falls, Antarctica The Taylor Glacier or Blood Falls is like something out of a horror movie. A blood-red waterfall pours out of the glacier, which has acquired its unusual colour due to iron oxides in the water.
It's a real natural wonder, fascinating and chilling.  The lake that feeds Blood Falls is covered with 1,300 ft of ice. It was discovered by Australian geologist Thomas Griffith Taylor during his expedition to McMurdo Dry Valleys in 1911. This discovery could have been his last, as a year later he nearly died during a long expedition. Taylor's party was due to be picked up by the Terra Nova supply ship in January, 1912, but the ship could not reach them through the ice. Fortunately, the scientists were rescued in February and they left Antarctica in March, 1912. Hanging Coffins, Philippines In the Philippines, you can see hanging coffins nailed to the cliff high above the ground. Residents of Sagada are widely known for the tradition of burying their dead in coffins hung on the sides of cliffs rather than traditional burial in cemeteries. Such a burial practice may seem creepy, but it is quite common on the island of Luzon. It's an ancient ritual that is also widespread in other Asian countries. For example, hanging coffins were found in China, Tibet and Indonesia. One of the earliest hanging coffins found is about 2,500 years old. Presumably, it belongs to one of the Bo people (ethnic minority group in China). One of the common beliefs is that burying a person in a hanging coffin brings him closer to his ancestral spirits and allows him to keep an eye on his family. However, there is a more pragmatic reason. Land shortage made them save the land for agricultural purposes. Anyway, today you can see hundreds of wooden coffins tied or nailed to the sides of cliffs and caves in the Philippines. Sometimes, relatives hang a chair next to the hanging coffin, where the deceased was seated immediately after death. That is also a part of the funeral tradition.  [caption id="attachment_628659" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Photo by Fern M. Lomibao on Unsplash[/caption] The Stanley Hotel, Colorado, USA According to the research conducted by Staffbe, an IT outstaffing company, and Zippia, the main causes of workplace stress are workload (39%) and interpersonal issues (31%). But if you worked in the Stanley Hotel, Colorado, you would also have to deal with mysticism, the problem of a completely different kind.  Probably, all the fans of Stephen King know about this hotel. Its history and atmosphere inspired him to create the famous Overlook Hotel from “The Shining”. You will hardly meet creepy twin girls here, but hotel guests believe it's haunted. In 1911, an accident occurred in room 217. A maid was injured by an explosion. She broke both legs, but survived. Nevertheless, stories about her ghost still circulate in the Stanley Hotel.  The hotel guests regularly report ghost sightings of Flora, the wife of the founder of the hotel Freelan Oscar Stanley. The Stanley Hotel offers spiritualistic tours all year long. You can try to communicate with spirits or even consult a psychic medium. If you see beauty in the scariest things and admire most haunted places in the world, we hope you enjoyed reading this article. Go ahead to visit all of them at your own risk!

Buy the Best Home Charging Station for EV
When you can recharge on your own time without having to worry about finding a space to plug in or moving your car once it's completed charging, owning an electric vehicle (EV) becomes a much better experience. You do use public charging stations when you're out and about or travelling. You can also get the best power rates with a personal charger, especially if your utility provides special non-peak-hour pricing.
A connection that supports Level 1 charging, which includes connecting into a regular household outlet, is included with the majority of EVs. The considerably superior choice is a Level 2 charger, which necessitates a 240V connection. Depending on your car's capacity and the output power of the Level 2 charger, you can extend your range by 30 to 60 miles for every hour of charging. Hiring an electrician to create a 240V circuit specifically for a Level 2 charger installation is frequently the most difficult part of the process. Cost-effective Level 2 chargers are available.
The most important characteristic to search for in a Level 2 charger is compatibility with your vehicle's charging system. Both the amount of power your EV can accept and the socket at the end of the charging wire are relevant here.
The increasing number of electric vehicles on the market and the obligation from governments to reduce vehicle emissions to zero at the absolute latest by 2050 make it imperative that more efficient charging methods be developed. According to several consumer surveys, the accessibility and duration of the charging process have a significant impact on consumers' acceptance of electromobility. High-power home EV charging station for EV is the answer to these market demands. Currently, it takes roughly 10 minutes to charge an electric vehicle (EV) battery to 80% of its capacity. This is comparable to filling up a regular car with an internal combustion engine.s

Day 7, JeonJu 18th Sept
Today I joined up for a five day circle tour of Korea for foreigners. We were to meet in a car park so I wasn’t sure what to expect but there are six of us, a NZ guy, a US couple and two women from Lithuania plus our driver/guide. A nice group so it should be an interesting few days. We visited some fabulous places today but it was so hot day. I didn’t expect this heat. Korea is a very mountainous country and a large proportion of people live in cities especially Seoul. Now the mountains are covered in trees but our guide was telling us as we drove through that back in the 70’s all the mountains were denuded of trees as people were so poor that they used the timber for warmth and ate the bark. He can remember doing that but also in later years when the cutting of trees was outlawed he remembers going out and replanting trees with his school. North Korean mountains are still very denuded of vegetation as they struggle with poverty.
This river has been damed so flows at a much lesser rate than in the past and before the bridges were built the wooden boats, that can be seen below, were roped next to each other and then people would walk across them.
Tumblr media
Our first stop was Gongsanseong Fortress at Gongju. It was the capital of Baekje and built in stone during the Joseon period. We walked up to the platform on top. There was a nice breeze. It was such a hot day.
Tumblr media
As we were walking back down we happened upon a reenactment of soldiers going off to war.
Tumblr media
It was pretty loud but good to see. It’s hard to get my head around all the different dynasties as Korea has such a long history.
Tumblr media
It was quite a sight. We were lucky to be there at the right time.
Tumblr media
Before the soldiers headed off the king blessed them. The gold statue stands in the middle of the road and rotates.
Tumblr media
Close by is the Royal Tomb of King Muryeong. It was accidentally discovered in 1971 and the coffins and artefacts were still in tack.
Tumblr media
It was the only royal tomb they have been able to identify who was buried there.
Tumblr media
There is an information centre to explain how the royal tombs were built. There are 7 tombs in total and they were made out of brick with a lotus pattern on the walls. It is all very well presented.
Tumblr media
The artefacts in this information centre were all replicas so we also visited the Museum.
Tumblr media
There were some amazing pieces in here with some English explanations. The caskets of the king and queen were very well preserved even though they were thousands of years old.
Tumblr media
A lot of gold pieces were also found.
Tumblr media
This animal is a fictitious animal but statues of it are found buried in the tombs.
Tumblr media
The displays of pottery found from many excavations were impressive.
Tumblr media
Close up.
Tumblr media
Driving further south we stopped at a location were the story goes that when the king died his 3000 concubines jumped into the river off this cliff as they didn’t want to be taken by anyone else. They were thought to be flowers dropping into the river. Perhaps the number of concubines has been exaggerated over the years.
Tumblr media
JeonJu was to be our nights stop. Everyone is getting along and are all very interesting to talk with. Apparently some groups in the past are much bigger then ours and usually travel in a bus. We are just in a van. Tourism in Korea hasn’t really picked up since Covid so it’s not crowded anywhere I’ve been. JeonJu has the largest area of traditional houses anywhere in Korea.
Tumblr media
We are staying next to the area so it was nice to be able to wander through the often narrow streets.
Tumblr media
Being a Sunday Koreans were out and about. Wearing Hanbok is popular here as well.
Tumblr media
It was an interesting place to wander with shops and cafes. You can stay in some of the houses.
Tumblr media
All very colourful.
Tumblr media
The Cathedral is a landmark in the city.
Tumblr media
Looking down on to the rooftops.
Tumblr media
Korea has such a long history it’s a bit hard getting your head around all the dynasties and the different wars that have taken place but one thing that stands out is the relationship or lack of that Korea has had with Japan and China. Both countries have controlled Korea at different times and Korea is very fearful of especially China and it’s influence over North Korea.

Lithuania headcanons
• Showers like once a week because he's too busy and stressed to do so everyday.
• But don't call him stinkie, it's not his fault :(
• Hangs out with America a lot because he really knows how to help him destress and let loose.
• Meanwhile when he's hanging with Belarus there's an 98.9% chance he's going to get arrested for any type of crime. Y'know, like when he got arrested for setting an abandoned Fire Station on fire. All blame was put on him due to Belarus, very convincingly, playing dead inside the car.
• Sleeps with socks on.
• Favorite candy is peppermint.
• Least favorite candy is whatever amalgamation Poland made when he mixed every single candy he had on him together.
• Has an emotional support dog that helps with his anxiety. He failed to think of a name so he told Estonia to name her. Her name is Bus Stop. Thanks Estonia. She doesn't respond to anything else but Bus Stop.
• The type of guy to vaguely know what popular thing his loved ones like. He'll end up getting a bootleg thinking it's the real thing.
• For example he bought America Ratatoing thinking it was Ratatouille.
• Drinks nothing but coffee and he's still tired.
• Set a fire to stop France, England, and America's arguing.
• Don't take him to the hot springs and leave him there. He'll falls asleep while still in the water. It's that relaxing for him.
• Color codes his pens.
• Will push Prussia into any body of water if given the chance.
• Has never had an overdue library book.
• But his paperwork is always late.
• Has mild road rage.
• He's immortalized on Google Earth. Lithuania, Canada, and Bulgaria are all carrying Furbies out of a Toys R Us.
• Those Furbies were later used to make a larger Furby that would sit outside on China's lawn.
• Liet was bored and had extra time on his hands. What else was he gonna do other than make a large Furby out of other Furbies??????

Friends from Israel and Germany arrive. More drinks, more drugs. Mixing friends. Gay bar in Bethnal Green for old friend’s birthday. Acid, confused and hilarious. Tate Britain. Serpentine. Cranes on the bridge. Liverpool Street film screening. Feels shallow, but good. Begin regular E Pellici sojourns. Primrose Hill with Dad. Beer festival with Keaton and co. Peckham, school friend’s house, bad vibe. More drinks, more drugs. Working on first music compilation with Slowcook and Fafa. Begin watching all of the Studio Ghibli movies. Watching Breaking Bad. At some point have huge argument with my brother, it went like this: He came home from work and I was sitting watching Breaking Bad, he asks, “Have you been like that all day?” I either took it in the wrong way or picked up on a sly dig. It was probably me, but at this point I was pretty self-conscious and worried about going back to China and whether or not I would have a job back there. Was getting surprisingly pissed off with my brother mentioning his work, felt like an affront to me. Weird. He goes crazy (he has a short fuse), punching a wall, ready to fight me. My mum is pretty upset. A few days later I go into his room and try to patch things up. Turns into a deeper chat. He feels like I haven’t been a good brother to him, he gives the example of not looking out for him on his first days of school. I say I’m sorry, it’s because I’m a bit scared and insecure. In retrospect I regret a little laying so much weakness on the table, seems his interactions/ways of acting around me have changed a bit. Still not sure how I feel about it all. Considered getting a gold tooth with Matthew. Play with cats, enjoying them more and more. Rave in Dalston, good music from Asia and beyond. Looking at magazines. Not doing much work at all. Being out and about instead. Go to Norfolk. It’s beautiful, but get way too drunk on first night, sick everywhere, wake up naked in sick. Massive fucking shitshow. Majority of people there have no choice but to act weirdly around me now, which is understandable. Still some nice aspects. One girl there surely hates me a lot. Tate Modern. Art stuff by self is good. Corsica Studios, semi-art, semi-music event. Mr. Bao for first time of many. Radio in Tottenham. Take drugs. Pubs. Drive to Asda with brother to stock up on food. It’s March and the reality of the pandemic is hitting. More canal cycling. First and only group chat on Zoom. BH Funk. Probably have taken cocaine and messaged one of three or four girls numerous times by now. If there’s one, in the cold light of day, horrible and disgusting thing I’ve done too much this year it’s this. Incessant messaging of poor girls that I know will react (although increasingly they don’t, I manage to alienate even close friends in this way). Southbank and The Mall with Nick. Reading about Wuhan. List of good texts. Continuing to do some writing. Making WeChat posts for guī WeChat, including mix series and miniessays. Greenwich park with Matthew. Grime quiz online. Delivering food regularly for my mum’s school. Hackney Marshes with Luan. Epping Forest with Mum and Dad. By this point probably have woken up feeling sorry for myself in Ludo’s flat, after untold amounts of alcohol and cocaine. Online rave. Beijing artists only mix. Go to Switzerland, pass through Italy on the way. Its breath taking, the mountains, the expanse of scenery, not used to it. Climbing up mountains with no one around. Rolo and Patrick and Rita smoke too much weed. I really, really, really still hate smoking it. Feel a bit annoyed how long we spend sitting around while they smoke, but this is way outbalanced by the uniqueness of where we are and the beauty all around. Producing more and more, actually getting somewhere. Cooking more and more food. Reading more and more, like: Black and British, The Corrections, Real Fast Food, Bass, Mids, Tops, Zadie Smith, Olivia Lang, Graham Greene, JG Ballard, Monica Ali, Mo Yan, Jenny Zhang, John le Carre, Naked Lunch, Nabokov, Bukowski, Zora Neale Hurston, Wiley, Bitcoin, Murakami, Judith E. Victoria Park more often than I can remember. To Chrissy’s house. Mile End Park. Very regularly sitting on the river in Wapping. Bring the chessboard and play Ludo sometimes, people smile and look at you differently when you’re playing chess and drinking beers versus just sitting and drinking beer. I May Destroy You. Industry. The beautiful wide expanse of Hackney Marshes. My incessant quest to reach 1000 followers in Instagram. More cycling, and I hate to say it but it really was: Here there and everywhere. Margate with my Dad to see my grandma in hospital and saw the Turner Prize exhibition. Light blue like scrubs, the sky and sun felt eternal. Swimming in dirty water. Make a DJ mix of old 2000s Road Rap. Eat cheese in Peckham. Cycle along the canal north, keep going and going through Tottenham, past Enfield keep going, it’s mad how quickly it becomes quiet fields on all sides, arrive to some kind of lake, swim and then back to the centre of town. Outside a Hawksmoor church in Shadwell ate chicken with Karim and Ludo. DJing. From my bedroom window saw a big crane in the middle of the night sitting on the canal. Begin developing the second DCCY compilation this time with BULLY magazine. Go to a house in an old school in Camberwell. Discover new secret riverside spots in East London. Finally give up my apartment in Beijing. Mile End park. Cycle further and further East to a pedestrian bridge I didn’t know existed. Get onto the beach and into the Thames water. Interview Akito. Begin writing more, after few months of wiling away the summertime. My friend Emmy gets married in Rwanda, I give him some money as a wedding gift which he tells me he used to buy his wife’s dress. Protests in HK always on TV. Get more into finances, crypto and trading, and just saving in general. Had sex with an old friend. Now meeting a girl I first knew years ago in Beijing. More secret river spots. Keaton has his baby, Noah. More times on Hackney Marshes. Barbican conservatory. Watching more films, try to watch all the films of some directors including: Jia Zhangke, Bong Joon-ho, Edward Yang, Wong Kar-wai, Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Decide to watch all of the infamous lauded series, go through Breaking Bad, The Wire and The Sopranos. Go to the seaside for a few days, camping also. Henry Wu album launch in a car park in Bermondsey. Go to visit Keaton’s baby for the first time. Good photography exhibition at Photographer’s Gallery. Go to Wallace Collection again. August. Go to Berlin. Swimming in Berlin lakes until I get an ear infection. It makes me drowsy and lethargic, but still seems to spend all my time cycling around the city. On one night cycle for hours to a rave on the outskirts of the city. Like a lot the abandoned airport in Berlin. Oh yeah, vaping. Found a dead bumble bee. Speak with Nevin about projects. Write a piece about the future of the art world for a magazine being started by Nevin’s friend in Canada. Go to Lithuania. Walk around Vilnius, get too drunk by myself. Get to the Curonian Spit and Nida, beaches and new friends. For the Nightlife Residency project. For a short while life is like on a desert island of new food, new people, new locations, quiet and new meaning. Go to the Russian border on the beach. Cycle to the road boarder and get stopped by the police. Go nude on the beach for the first time. Sauna, sand dunes and forests. DJ out for the first time in ages, this time with Nono. To Kaunus and try nice and stodgy Georgian food for the first time. Hackney Wick back for party. Meet a ginger girl online and go on a date. Wallace Collection again. Free beer and pizza. White Cube. Making more and more music, getting better. Decide I need more organisation and clarity, put everything I’ve done on a blog. More or less long since given up on my job at M Woods. But don’t really begin looking for anything new because it’s still sunny. At some point I start getting benefits money. Go to see La Haine in the cinema. Someone blocks me on WeChat because of me. Some pub somewhere. Sunday walks and breakfast with my parents. Go to an exhibition in Woolworth Road with Muzi. Realise how nice it is to run to Victoria Park along the canal. Vicky Park in general. Dinners at friends’ houses. Museum of London. Walking with Michael in some countryside near London, surprising how quickly things turn green. Break onto a pier in Wapping with Jack. Battersea Park. Tate, Bruce Nauman. Old Street Weatherspoon’s with Keaton, drugs. Central London cemetery. Chinese in Camberwell. Chinese in Aldgate. Italian in Camberwell. More and more exercise, running, weights and yoga with my brother. Sadie Coles. Nick, Central London. Gucci Mane. Hampstead Heath more because Ludo and his flatmates are nearby. Ludo’s now house more for days and nights of you guessed it. Borough Market more, with Emma. Alexandra Palace walk and famous sandwiches after. Tate Britian new lights. More time at Muzi’s. Ask how to make human beings and even with families with oval shape structures like with drawn lips or photo without teeth or like hanger as u place a cylindrical bar as toothbrush or paste or any on the road of many texture soil 4 another type of race and the cross bar u can change with any and even on glass place small uprooted plants as grass on glass slide unto the hollow part and sprinkle like hay upon them or sand and with the former soil then on ya yard way do all the boom process until u make every race and even big families dude like in the link below as well u can place different seeds of anything in the 1st case 4 another race or sex dude
https://www.shutterstock.com/search/clothes+hanger
You though if u finish a race u r the only one who will remain good, they can even create of ya race to sleep with to disrespect ya unless u warn them and a blessing in disguise like Kevy created Amanda and disrespecting him kebi with delanu
Ask what if u eat makes snakes transfiguring into people if sleep with you breaks and with such people snake have slept with do the same and which one again if u eat after the lapse of its strength makes the same thing with snake and if one steal ya belongings breaks ya neck or hand like 4 6 months and the remedies if u r right dude
Russians are Mau people and ask every person next to ya as u ask the devil if they are mau and the mau character and were they were gotten dude
Ask how the blue siren gas jets are made in the boom, the environment, heap combination and the end chop or stir way or the step on and make it and ask at what distance it travels maximum or get lost as disappear in parts dude and ask how the zinc 1 using aluminum pospate is made as the above uses aluminum Gigas and also the Gold made with aluminum eggy made one made and their top speed and how u can get get to heaven and land to Auckland as Kebi does at night and come quick to ya place within like 5 hrs but getting to God takes 1 second and another second to confirm with ya and another 1 to Auckland then it takes roughly like 3 second to be in the USA as u sublime in air then they contain you give ya cash and get to any city u like or and even Canada dude, ask 4 the steps dude, as if u qualify not God takes ya to another city and u emanate under bridge with the clothes u had worn so u find difficulties to get back to ya city so u stop the shit and if u continue the same u dies and ask 4 the remedies so u don't do the same as tricky dude. Watch old time movie the lady called Sophia or Harry porter dude, the yellow jet made with potassium alconate dude which uses no fuel dude
Ask the distances from earth to any planet and to like any heavenly bodies and heavens and from earth to every those heavens and ask they are how many heavens dude and size as relation to the earth so u stop this jealousy of being together and u be alone dude and ask if u can identify 1 in Denver, Minneapolis, Auckland or those heavens and tell us and lest us know if their is any utility and ask how many have been kind to others with food and vice versa and in those places as above and compare dude and ask from Pluto the outer space ends at what distance from it and whats the blockage and what makes the jet not pass it and the related consequences and rain falls from which distance from the earth crust while the maximum height a cloud forms at which height and erase white-man dorminancy over u or discard ya books and reduce fee bro cause none-sense have been pumped into kids mind
Ask how many forms can 1 transfigure into to the ask of which 2 things made into a cross cut such transfigured into animals and ask 4 long range 1 and ask if those cross sticks as of kale or trees used to make hard plastics and metal in the boom can still act as above and ask the devil to make such cross to kill any animal or rodents that cause harm to ya like in plants, cereals and at homes as rats, roaches, mosquito and even bed bug and more to avert the buying drug thing which sometimes expensive, fake or hoax and works not and even place in machines to kill the above and in offices and barracks and border lines air on drones or booster to kill those transfiguring into the same to break those machine to fail like in airline and even radar surveillance so a downfall unearth and the defeat ya dude
Ask the devil how different color of tires can be made both of tubeless, non inflated or deflated and the normal one so we got much cars with much car tires to exhaust us dude, a thing Kevy suggested to Korea and Lithuania a long time like 10 yrs back but not on our roads and a thing he could walk checking but to no avail dude
Ask at what speed can a missile run but not hit the target even if unmanned and why as i hear the Devil gets into it and as with ya body and the switch connected to bulb in ya house alone, where the switch if up the start of upper door bar then u cut 1 wire makes the bullet not get ya, ask the same 4 ya city and even car, firms of long range so missile reaches not and ask if both the govt and u have managed to do the same who will win if u got ya people behind ya who have gotten ya part, if u r on the right side the shield is within ya but on the wrong side the bullet gets ya, so beware if u r on the wrong side and even with other Nations having sophisticated weapons until u succumb to my defeat and respects me and if u even kill me i have told folks the same like in all nations how such tricks or truth are administered to employ on u and so money is abolished cause using the same are planning to rob banks and if they are on wrong side will be defeat if they wear police attire not shot so police beware to wear other unknown attires or use drone 4 the above not transpire dude
Ask 4 the harm 4 any bad habit one directs unto ya dude as stop reproach with them daily dude
We will go to the Hindu shops, kill, them, cause we are on the right, get to the police kill them as we now know how to make weapons, then to parliament and their houses and kill them, then they call the army and we employ the above and kill them and they will not harm us or do us anything until justice runs down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream and until every race will respect another and even with any person with another not as currently seen dude
Ask what devaura will do to ya tribe with their nukes when they want to attack a nation per each nation list and quit or read the consequences lest insane dude and ask b4 u employ the same if black magics can harm this man or no and why dude and ask at what speed of the missile or jet radar inbuilt stop to work or WiFi dude
Dignitaries still one cash a citizen should get off office dude and with others in EU or USA, dude, kinda, am shaking my head, insanity, if true pay him plus all accrued interest, investigate the business he wanted to venture into like Electric bus and get the price as $ 30 and pay him cause he wanted to open suck in East Africa, South, Europe as Holland and USA, Mexico, Canada route dude. Same money they opened with many small loan giving firms as said earlier dude which has built the city immensely and bought houses not inhabited outside Africa as said b4 dude.
The above so u see with new online money can do the same with kevy as Kidnap him to beat him to want to kill him, so any 1 can check your transaction via your ID number to which next a/c it has gone to to bar the same practice
WOMEN CAN BE CREATED SO WHO R U AT ANY AGE AND ASK AS ABOVE DUDE TO THWART YA MOVE DUDE OR IF U MOVE OTHER CREATED BAND THE REASON I THINK I TOLD YA NATION THE SAME THEY WANT TO DISPOSE YA, WHY LOCAL TRIBES WANT U NOT CAUSE THEY CREATE MORE PRETTY THAN U AND THEY HAVE STARTED HITTING THE HOLE AND SWEET DUDE
WANNA STUB ME WITH KNIFE THEN GO AHEAD DUDE, I FEAR NOT BRO, U SIMPLE MIND TO GET TO RUSSIA WHILE U HAVE KNOW TO MAKE MISSILE WITH THE ASK THING HUNGERING YA AND ASK YA PLANS AND TOLD WITH THAT NATION WITH THE CODED VOICE U FEAR AT THE SAME TIME, DUDE MAKE YA LAND AS U CAN MAKE DUST FREE SOIL U FEAR LEAVE OTHERS PROPERTIES DUDE
STILL WANNA DEFEAT THEM MILITARY WAY AFTER ALL THE ABOVE EXPLANATION THEN SICK DUDE LEAVE ME ALL ALONE AND THE CODED VOICE TELLS U PER NATION HOW SUCH MADE AND EVEN CONFIRM WITH YA OWN YARD 4 TRUTH TO LEAVE THE 1ST STANZA AND ACCEPT TRIUMPH DUDE, NOW THE JET MAKES 1.2 M MILES PER MINUTE SO HOW WILL U MAKE MUCH MORE THAN THAT AND MUCH MORE THAN THAT U CAN MAKE BUT BREAK ON AIR WHEN SUCH MORE DISTANCE THAN ABOVE SUPERSEDED DUDE
uhuru kenyatta and kiks or kamba now knows how to make siren kill ya gas, let him with his rude mind at night when we know not spray while his people got the mask so next day they eat instead of disturbing us daily with shallow mind we want to hear not as we got our mind so they gauge out of social media post and they want not dude
