I'd much rather have $250 cash in my pocket than $250 worth of Gridiron-upgraded VAMP on my toy shelf.
That's what I keep telling myself, anyway.

M60 “Patton” research
M60 “Patton”
The M60 is an American MBT that was designed in response to the soviet T-55 and was a direct upgrade of the M48 Patton. The reason I have Patton in quote marks is because it wasn’t actually made a part of the Patton series of tanks but it was a direct upgrade form a tank that was. The reason some tanks were called Patton is because there was a line of tanks named after the American second world war tank general George Patton. The M60 was armed with one 105mm M68 cannon, one coaxial 7.62mm M240 and one 12.7mm M85 antiaircraft gun on the roof. I think the M60 would make a good fit to the game as it was made to be a direct competitor to the Soviet T-55 which is the MBT I want to use for WTO so having it’s competitor be the NATO tank I think would be a good idea.

Movie Review | Miami Vice: The Prodigal Son (Glaser, 1985)
Tumblr media
The series was a game changer in presenting violence on network television, and this episode certainly ups the action quotient. I do think it's worth picking apart the action direction. To be honest, the construction of the shootouts is maybe a little pedestrian, alternating between shots of belligerents firing at each other with a certain perfunctory rhythm. Where I think the show regularly excels is in evoking the sense of movement, of the speed with which characters bolt down streets with guns blazing or trying not to get blown away, of sportscars racing down streets, of speedboats zipping towards confrontations. Often these scenes make use of the geography of the street settings, like the weapons deal gone wrong that opens "No Exit", with Coati Mundi firing an M60 from the back of a truck as it races away. The best action scene here is a foot chase through a crowded street, the bad guys blasting away to make their escape and the good guys in hot pursuit.
The street settings in the first season were often somewhat underpopulated, but the one here is bustling. In this episode, the TV movie opening to the second season, the action has moved to New York, and the overall vibe has gotten maybe a touch more claustrophobic. Tubbs looks very much at home, his flashy suits blending into the milieu like a Wall Street big shot. (The way he spells his name on the phone is one of the episode's highlights. “Tough, unique, bad, bold and sassy.”) Crockett, despite the relaxed cut of his outfit, looks anything but, the rumpling of his linen jacket seemingly manifesting a certain inner tension. The New York setting means that you lose a bunch of the regulars, meaning there's no Gina and Trudy, no Switek and Zito, and, most unfortunately, no Castillo.
But their absence is alleviated by the unusually large cadre of guest stars. There's Gene Simmons, epitomizing sleaze. Penn Jillette as a cautious drug distributor. Notable Greendale alumnus Luis Guzman. Anthony Heald as the kind of dipshit bureaucrat that he plays so well. Paul Calderon, in one of multiple appearances in the series. And Pam Grier, reprising her role from "Rites of Passage" as an old friend and flame of Tubbs'. I think the series often struggles with romantic subplots as the runtime of the episodes gives them little room to breathe (there's a less gripping one here where Crockett, for the millionth time, learns the importance of putting bros before hos), but the ones that do work, like this one, do so because they play off the characters' existing history together. Now, there's only so much you can show on network TV, but the way the sex scene between them (seemingly the billionth such instance) gets around it would make Quentin Tarantino proud.
This episode also provides some unintentional laughs if, like me, you psyched yourself up to dive into the series by watching the music video on repeat, as much of the footage is taken from this episode. Let's just say the bloodbath the heroes walk in on early in the episode is a lot less frightening when you know that former member of Mahavishnu Orchestra and synth pioneer Jan Hammer is the culprit and has just fled the scene. But without giving too much away, let's just say that Hammer is a bit luckier than some of the bad guys here.

Anim...aybe?
It's been a while since I have taken even a passing interest in any new anime, only a random title here and there that I have enjoyed. This should be heir apparent by my activity on Tumblr alone - I've never posted a ton in any month's time to this url but it's also never been so long in between posts since I started back up here. Which means I am either bored with Tumblr, which is not at all true, I still thumb through my feed several times a day, or I am bored with modern anime.
BUT, in the strangest twist of fate I can remember in recent years, here we are at cruising altitude already into the summer season - that time of year where normally all the junk gets thrown out to fill up the airwaves to get a season of anything at all until fall when the good stuff happens. And yet here we are, and there are multiple anime I am really digging. They're mostly new seasons of older shows, but we just had a new season of Date a Live that I couldn't watch at all past the fourth episode, so I guess I am kind of shocked at how much fun I'm having. Cannot say I could have ever expected this for a summer season.
Utawarumono: Futari no Hakuro (Mask of Truth)
Tumblr media
I've never played any of the games, but I have really enjoyed this series from the start - it has a great balance of fun characters and exciting plot (although everything I have read says they really went away from the source material in False Faces/False Mask). I would love to know what the hell happened to Kuon's voice at the end of Ep4, where she basically turns into Ranmari Rindo out of nowhere. But even with that quandary fresh on the fingertips, I am really enjoying the new episodes so far and waiting to see when/if it comes out that Haku... well, no spoilers for those who haven't seen it at all, I guess.
2. Lycoris Recoil
Tumblr media
The crisp art and bubbly of this show somehow reminds me a ton of Takt Op Destiny, except that I was not bored out of my mind halfway through the second episode like I was with Takt Op Destiny. Kurumi is 100% stolen from somewhere that I can't place just yet, and if you didn't say 'that's totally Homura' the second that Takina picks up the m60 then you really owe it to yourself to go back and watch some better older anime. Still, neither has stopped this from being a boatload of fun. I think my favorite thing about Lyco Reco is how Chisato is both Yui Hirasawa and Golgo 13 at the same time. Feel good fun, and after this 3rd episode there is the potential there for a crazy good overall story arc if they take it in that direction. Guess we will have to see!
3. Classroom of the Elite II
Tumblr media
The days of the psychological anime are long past, and I will be the first to say that it's a freaking tragedy. I'm not going to put Classroom of the Elite next to Paprika or anything, but I did really like the first season because every one of these characters is a deviously manipulative, scheming a-hole. There really are no good guys, and I never did get a pulse on where a few of them landed morally at all. After Mahoutsukai no Yome, it was the closest thing to my kind of thing that 2017 had to offer. I was surprised to hear that 5yrs later there was a second season coming, but my interest definitely pulled me in. Am very interested to see where this season goes.
4. Overlord 4
Tumblr media
And, of course, the no-brainer. If I was only allowed to watch one show in 2022, I could have told you in December which it would be - I have been amped for this since it was announced at the end of last year. Overlord has been one of my favorite titles since it came out in 2015, back when everyone was busy calling it a SAO-knockoff, and back when I never expected Madhouse to make another season at all, let alone four. So excited for these new episodes!

New MediaTek 5G RedCap technology transforms connectivity
Tumblr media
MediaTek 5G RedCap technology
MediaTek, which makes has introduced its The company solutions, which will allow them to provide 5G technology download speeds as well as impressive power efficiency to a wide variety of Internet of Things equipment.
The previously the RedCap software modem technology and chipset family have been introduced by MediaTek as part of the company’s efforts to accelerate the migration to 5G-NR for consumer, corporate, and industrial IoT applications.
MediaTek T300 chipset series
MediaTek has announced that it would be extending its line of modems and chipsets to enable 5G RedCap. This announcement was made possible by MediaTek’s industry experience in 5G connection. The new solutions, the M60 modem IP and the MediaTek T300 chipset series, will make it simple for MediaTek to ease the transition to 5G-NR for a wide variety of applications. These applications include things like wearables, lightweight augmented reality devices, IoT modules, and devices built with edge artificial intelligence in mind.
RedCap, an abbreviation that stands for “reduced capability,” is an initiative that aims to bring the advantages of 5G to non-traditional radio (NR) consumer, corporate, and industrial devices. RedCap promises to bring dependability for devices that have minimal bandwidth needs by fully using the movement of 5G networks to the Standalone (SA) network architecture. This will offer many of the advantages of 5G without the expense and complexity of standard 5G solutions. RedCap will take full use of the evolution of 5G networks to the SA network design.
As stated by JC Hsu, Technical Senior Vice President at MediaTek, “Our 5G RedCap solutions constitute an important aspect of our objective to make accessible 5G, allowing consumers with the ability to maximize the efficiency of component while delivering devices capable of supporting 5G spanning a range of purposes and a range of price points.” “Our customers now have the ability to deliver 5G-enabled devices from a range of applications and a range of price points,” he said.
“The migration to 5G RedCap will replace legacy 4G/LTE solutions, offering significantly better power efficiency and more reliable user experiences when compared to leading edge 5G eMMB modem solutions and legacy 4G LTE Cat 4 and Cat 6 devices.”
The MediaTek T300 series is pioneering new territory in the 5G RedCap area since it is the world’s first single die solution for 5G RedCap that utilizes a 6nm Radio Frequency System-On-Chip (RFSOC) architecture. This RFSOC will enable marketers to build creative designs for corporate, industrial, consumer, augmented reality (AR), and data-card applications, allowing them to profit on the burgeoning RedCap market.
The MediaTek T300 series incorporates a single-core Arm Cortex-A35 in a substantially more compact PCB area. This is made possible by the extremely efficient TSMC 6nm process, which was used to build the series. The MediaTek T300 series is capable of supporting data transfer speeds of up to 122 Mbps in the uplink direction and 227 Mbps in the downlink direction.
The T300 series and the M60 5G modem IP both satisfy the 3GPP R17 standard and combine MediaTek’s industry-leading power efficiency with coverage upgrades and exceptionally low latency. Furthermore, the two of these products have been compatible using 5G networks. The The substance M60 is able to give users up to 70 percent reduction in energy consumption in compared to competitive 5G eMBB technologies and as much as seventy-five percent power savings in comparing to 4G LTE network solutions. This is possible via the incorporation of MediaTek’s UltraSave 4.0 semiconductor and the minimization of needless paging receptions.
To continue to address the constantly evolving relationship needs and standards, MediaTek’s The company solution are bringing about an exciting new era of efficiency, stability, and savings in expenses for devices with 5G RedCap capabilities across the consumer, businesslike, and industrial markets. Samples of devices included in the Broadcom T300 category will be accessible throughout the first half of 2024, and commercial samples will be available in the second half of the same year.

MediaTek Expands its Product Portfolio for 5G RedCap Support
Tumblr media
The arrival of 5G RedCap tech has certainly given rise to new tech innovations in the way of software and hardware, and a lot of manufacturers have deemed it wise to invest in research and development towards adoption and support for modern 5G solutions. With that being said, MediaTek recently announced that it was expanding its portfolio of modems and chipsets to include 5G RedCap support, in the form of the M60 modem IP and MediaTek T300 chip series. With these new hardware advancements, MediaTek hopes that it will be easier to facilitate the transition to 5G-NR for different applications for require long-lasting and efficient battery life, such as wearable devices, light-weight AR hardware, IoT modules, and devices built with edge AI in mind. JC Hsu, Corporate Senior Vice President at MediaTek states: “Our RedCap solutions are a significant part of our mission to democratize 5G, providing our customersthe ability to optimize components and deliver 5G-enabled devices from a range of applications and arange of price points. The migration to 5G RedCap will replace legacy 4G/LTE solutions, offering significantly better power efficiency and more reliable user experiences compared to leading edge 5G eMMB modem solutions and legacy 4G LTE Cat 4 and Cat 6 devices.” For those unfamiliar with the term, RedCap is short for "reduced capability," and is designed to give NR consumers the benefits of 5G, such as enterprise solutions and industrial devices. RedCap makes use of more modern 5G networks and is developed to be optimized for devices with low bandwidth requirements, with lesser costs and complexities involved. MediaTek says that its T300 series is the world's first 6nm Radio Frequency System-on-chip solution that's designed to work with RedCap, and will allow brands to fully utilize the advantages of the growing RedCap adoption within different industries and such. It's built on TSMC's 6nm process and integrates a single-core Arm Cortex-A35 in a more compact PCB area. Additionally, the T300 is capable of supporting up to 227 Mbps downlink and 122 Mbps uplink data rates. With that in mind, MediaTek adds that both the T300 series and M60 will support with 3GPP R17 standard, and are developed to be power efficient with low latency. They're also equipped with MediaTek’s UltraSave 4.0 technology; the M60 in particular offers up to a 70% reduction in power consumption compared to similar 5G eMBB solutions, and up to 75% power savings compared to 4G LTE solutions. In terms of market availability, MediaTek says that T300 series devices will be sampled in the first half of 2024, with commercial samples in the second half of 2024. Read the full article

New-Generation Beauty with Electric Heart And Combustion Versions
Tumblr media
In May 2023, BMW introduced the new eighth-generation 5 Series sedan. The car with factory code G60/G61 received several notable changes in design, technology, and equipment, and, for the first time in its history, the model became available in an all-electric i5 version. Fans of the classics should not worry, as the manufacturer has prepared several models with internal combustion engines.
This is the most significant update in the entire 50-year history of the model. Pricing has already been announced: BMW 530i $57,900, BMW 530i xDrive $60,200, BMW 540i xDrive $64,900, BMW i5 eDrive40 $66,800, BMW i5 M60 xDrive $84,100. And the new BMW maintenance costs promise to be still above average. But US dealers won’t have the cars until October. The Indy Auto Man dealership crew shares their insights on the new model.
Technical equipment
The new BMW 5-Series has two electric versions. Base – i5 eDrive40 with one 340 hp electric engine on the rear axle. It accelerates to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. But the i5 M60 xDrive is a 598-horsepower hurricane with acceleration to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. Both electric versions received a traction battery with a capacity of 84.3 kWh. Charging from a 205 kW fast station takes about half an hour.
In addition to electric versions, the new BMW 5 Series will be available with petrol and diesel engines of various power levels, as well as plug-in hybrids. All engines are equipped with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic and a 48-volt starter-alternator. Gas BMW 5-Series are not really gasoline – they are mild hybrids. The base engine (for the BMW 530i and 530i xDrive) is a 2-liter turbocharged engine with 258 hp. In comparison with its predecessor, it added seven horsepower. It takes 5.8-5.9 seconds to accelerate to 60 mph (the all-wheel drive version is a little faster). A step up is the BMW 540i xDrive with a 380-hp 3.0-liter biturbo engine – it accelerates to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
Major changes
The new BMW 5-Series is more modern and elegant than the 3-Series, and more dynamic and sporty than the 7-Series. Outwardly, it is easy to be more dynamic – the 7-Series turned out to be too monumental. Conventional gasoline and electric BMWs almost do not differ in any way, and for a surcharge, the future owner can get backlighting of the nostrils in both versions.
The new BMW 5 Series Sedan has noticeably gained in size and, most of all, in length. It is now 5060 mm (an increase of 86.4 mm), and the wheelbase has stretched to 2995 mm. The width has increased by 32 mm (up to 1900 mm), and the height – by 36 mm (up to 1515 mm). Externally, the new BMW looks more rigorous and modern thanks to a redesigned radiator grille, narrow headlights, and more expressive body lines.
The interior of the new BMW 5 Series has also undergone significant changes. The dashboard and center console are more curved and driver-focused. BMW was reluctant to update the media system of the previous-gen 5-Series, so the new model took a step forward in this regard. The 14.9-inch screen, part of the latest BMW iDrive 8.5 media system, complements the 12.3-inch screen in front of the driver.
There are also many other impressive options on board. For example, the AirConsole platform allows downloading and playing games right in the car (on stops only), and there is even an Interaction Bar system borrowed from the 7-Series. Finally, there is the Highway Assistant autobahn assistance system (it independently drives along the road at speeds up to 85 mph and realigns itself when the driver looks in one of the side mirrors) and a fully automatic parking system.
The Live Cockpit Plus system runs on BMW OS 8.5 and supports cloud navigation, voice control, and wireless charging for smartphones. In addition, the new 5-Series boasts a vegan interior with Veganza leatherette upholstery, a Sky Lounge glass roof, BMW Interaction Bar lighting, and other options.
