Sam, after explaining exactly what it entailed to be pararescue, was fixed in Bucky’s mind as only slightly less of an adrenaline junkie than Steve by the sounds of it. “Shoulda heard them all hollering,” Sam laughed, “Cap here launched himself down on top of the grenade after the Colonel tossed it in as a test.”

Bucky blinked and shook his head slightly.

“What do you mean, the grenade?”

Across the table, Steve took a long, slow drink from his pint glass, averting his eyes from the glare that was coming directly toward him from across the table.

Bucky’s phone chirped in his pocket, prompting him to slide a hand into the denim, pulling the offending technology out to silence it, until he noticed the picture message from Dugan.

The man was clearly in his own room or was hanging out the window of it at least. There was a small gathering of fans at the entrance to the hotel, clearly being warded off by security, but one of them had a large sign, cardboard painted white with painstakingly clear lettering:

“BARNES! I BET YOUR HAIR ISN’T THE ONLY THING THAT’S LONG!”

Steve’s smile was easy-going and friendly, and he laughed hard at whatever his companion said. The man reached out and grasped his arm, before tugging the blond into a hug, clapping him on the back and then holding him at arm's length.

He had a broad smile and a slight gap between his teeth. His dark eyes were mischievous and Steve was grinning broadly at whatever had been whispered in his ear a moment before.

A small, cold feeling curled into Bucky’s gut and his jaw clenched.

“No,” Bucky scolded himself, “we’re not being jealous.”
