Song of the day: “Chubby” by Pitcher56!
I wanted to post “Woman” by them but it wasn’t available on instagram :( so for consistency I’m also posting Chubby here.
Pitcher56 is a Japanese Whisper and Shibuya-kei band from the early 2000’s. Over their short career, they were signed to multiple different record labels. Their discography contains a variety of covers and original works. The three members of the group: Hiroyuki Morita (guitar, bass, drums, and programming), Manabu Takano (guitar and vocals), and Yuki Nakano (vocals) are all doctors today. They released their most popular album “Her Abiding Memory” while in medical school.

Also this is the first film to tease the Big Man in the opening‚ which is a good idea considering it always takes him an hour#to show up. Oh and he's developed new powers again (teleportation!) but mostly it's good old fashioned smash and crash#good for you Big Man. yeah this was a lot of fun and definitely one to revisit on cozy winter evenings

La preparatoria Kodo Ikusei, es una escuela de prestigio líder con unas instalaciones de última generación, donde casi el 100% de los estudiantes van a la universidad o encuentran empleo. Los estudiantes tienen la libertad de usar cualquier estilo de peinado o los efectos personales que deseen. La preparatoria Kodo Ikusei podría ser una escuela paradisíaca, pero la verdad es que sólo el más superior de los estudiantes recibe un tratamiento favorable.
El protagonista Kiyotaka Ayanokouji es un estudiante de la clase D, que es donde la escuela lleva a sus estudiantes “inferiores” con el fin de ridiculizarlos. Por alguna razón, Kiyotaka fue descuidado en su examen de admisión, y fue puesto en la clase D. Después de reunirse con Suzune Horikita y Kikyou Kushida, otros dos estudiantes en su clase, la situación de Kiyotaka comienza a cambiar.
Tomose Shunsaku y Kinugasa Shougo lanzaron la serie de novelas ligera original en marzo del 2015.

Essential step forward taken in pre-clinical testing of 3D bioprinted tissue
3D bioprinting is gradually proving its efficacy to create functional, replacement tissues for the body. At present though it has only be proven in small animal models. If the technology is ever to reach clinical trials in human patients it will first need to be scaled up.
In Japan a collaboration between Keio University, Saga University, Kyushu Medical Center, Saga Hospital, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine and Cyfuse Biomedical K. K. has taken the next step toward this goal.
A recent study published by the associates in May 2019 demonstrates that 3D bioprinted vascular grafts can survive for long periods when implanted in pigs. The research has been described by the team as “an essential step towards a comprehensive and clinically relevant evaluation of human cell regeneration strategies at the pre-clinical stage.”
The Kenzan method of 3D bioprinting
The 3D bioprinting method employed by the Keio-Saga team to make vascular grafts is called the Kenzan method. Commercialized exclusively by Cyfuse Biomedical K. K., in this technique spherical cell conglomerations known as spheroids are speared by a “Kenzan” array of needles. Left to culture the arrangement of these spheroids, e.g. a circular vessel/tube, merge together. At a certain stage they are removed from the needles then left to heal and close the remaining holes. What is left is a complete sample of tissue.
Over the years, the method has been used variously to create vascular implants trialed in rats, a mini liver model and, most recently, regenerative esophageal structures.
A first for maintaining patency
This latest paper titled “Development of an immunodeficient pig model allowing long-term accommodation of artificial human vascular tubes” increases the scale of Kenzan vascular trials conducted in rats, instead applied to so-called “operational immunodeficient pigs” or OIDPs.
In experimentation, the researchers undertook a procedure to suppress the reaction of the OIDP immune system in strict accordance with the recommendations in the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals of the National Institutes of Health. Human stem-cell derived tubular tissues produced on a Cyfuse Biomedical 3D bioprinter were then implanted into the pigs, and studied by the team over a period of 3 months.
In two out of the six pigs in this trial, the patency of the artificial tissue was maintained for the duration of the experiment. At this stage, smooth muscle cells had started to form at at the implant, denoting the next stage of cell regeneration.
Though not all pigs shared the same results the study does show a high degree of success for the method. The researchers write, “It should be noted that this is the first report in which tissue-engineered grafts derived from human cells remained patent for > 1 month after xenotransplantation in a large animal model.”
The study concludes, “The birth of OIDPs without the rejection of human cell-derived organs symbolizes an essential step toward the comprehensive evaluation of preclinical cell regeneration strategies and contributes to the development of regenerative medicine using human organs, which is expected in the near future.”

Okayama University research: Role of commensal microbiota in bone remodeling

(Okayama, 26 December) Researchers at Okayama University report in the journal Molecules that commensal microbiota — microorganisms present in the human body — may play a key role in human-bone remodeling by enhancing the activity of both cells breaking down bone tissue and cells synthesizing bone.
Humans are host to several types of microorganisms like bacteria, fungi and viruses. Those residing in the human body without harming it are collectively called commensal microbiota. While it has been established that commensal microbiota play an important role in the body’s energy management and the development of its immune system, recent findings have suggested that they affect the regulation of human bone formation too. Now, by performing comparative experiments on mice, Professor Manabu Morita, Yoko Uchida (D.D.S.) and colleagues from Okayama University confirmed the link between commensal microbiota and bone cell regulation. Specifically, they found that the presence of the microorganisms enhances the activity of both osteoclasts (cells that break down bone tissue) and osteoblasts (cells that synthesize bone).
Professor Morita and colleagues worked with two types of mouse: germ-free (GF) mice, free of any microorganisms, and specific-pathogen-free (SPF) mice, which are guaranteed to be free of certain pathogens but at the same time host to commensal microbiota.
The researchers investigated the activity of osteoclasts and osteoblasts in 8-week-old GF and SPF mice. They first looked at body weight and size. The SPF mice were found to have larger body size but lower bone mineral density in alveolar bones (the bones that contain the tooth sockets on the jaw bones), an observation attributed to the presence of commensal microbiota. In addition, by analyzing blood serum of the mice for substances that are associated with osteoclast activity, Professor Morita and colleagues were able to conclude that commensal microbiota cause greater development and activity of osteoclasts.
The scientists also discovered that the expression of osteocalcin messenger RNA— a maker of bone mineralization — is significantly higher in SPF mice, providing a further link between commensal microbiota and bone-remodeling processes.
While the precise mechanism of commensal microbiota affecting the expression of osteo-blast-specific genes such as osteocalcin needs to be further investigated in order to be completely understood, quoting Professor Morita and colleagues, “[these results] suggest that the commensal microbiota prevents excessive mineralization possibly by stimulating osteocalcin expression in osteoblasts, and enhances both osteoblast and osteoclast activity by regulating specific transcription factors.”

Il prestigioso istituto Kodo Ikusei è rinomato per le sue strutture moderne e il livello di istruzione talmente avanzato da assicurare, a praticamente tutti gli studenti, un impiego o l’accesso ad università. Oltretutto, nonostante il consueto obbligo della divisa scolastica, vi è completa libertà su acconciature ed effetti personali. In verità però, quello che all’esterno appare come un istituto da sogno, nasconde una subdola, ma marcata disparità di trattamento fra gli iscritti. Solo a quelli considerati ad alti livelli viene garantito un reale supporto, mentre a tutti gli altri la vita non viene resa facile. Kiyotaka Ayanokoji è uno degli studenti “inferiori” della famigerata classe D, lo zimbello della scuola. Assieme alle compagne Suzune Horikita e Kikyo Kushida cercherà di cambiare la situazione.
La serie di romanzi viene pubblicata dal 2015 sotto Media Factory Bunko J.Il 5° volume è uscito il 25 gennaio di quest’anno e a settembre andrà in stampa il volume spin-off “4.5″.
A inizio 2016, Yuyu Ichino ha lanciato un adattamento manga dell’opera sulle pagine del mensile Comic Alive. Il 23 marzo Kadokawa ne ha pubblicato il 3° volumetto.

La transmisión en televisión de la serie iniciará el 12 de julio

La preparatoria Kodo Ikusei, es una escuela de prestigio líder con unas instalaciones de última generación, donde casi el 100% de los estudiantes van a la universidad o encuentran empleo. Los estudiantes tienen la libertad de usar cualquier estilo de peinado o los efectos personales que deseen. La preparatoria Kodo Ikusei podría ser una escuela paradisíaca, pero la verdad es que sólo el más superior de los estudiantes recibe un tratamiento favorable.
El protagonista Kiyotaka Ayanokouji es un estudiante de la clase D, que es donde la escuela lleva a sus estudiantes “inferiores” con el fin de ridiculizarlos. Por alguna razón, Kiyotaka fue descuidado en su examen de admisión, y fue puesto en la clase D. Después de reunirse con Suzune Horikita y Kikyou Kushida, otros dos estudiantes en su clase, la situación de Kiyotaka comienza a cambiar.
La cantante Minami pondrá la canción de ending de la serie. ZAQ interpreta el tema de opening del Anime. El single CD de la canción se pondrá a la venta el 9 de agosto
Tomose Shunsaku y Kinugasa Shougo lanzaron la serie de novelas ligera original en marzo del 2015.
