This is maybe a stupid question but do you think there's any ties between like orientalist trends in western countries that glorify dharmic religions and Hindutva? Like I've heard 'Hinduism is the oldest religion on Earth' and 'Hinduism/Buddhism are just so much more enlightened than savage Abrahamic religions' and 'how could there be war and oppression in India? Hindus don't believe in violence' from white liberals and it certainly seems *convenient* for Hindutva propaganda, at least.

Not stupid at all! Historically, orientalism precedes modern Hindutva. The notion of a unified Hinduism is actually constructed in the echo of oriental constructions of India, with Savarkar clearly modelling One Nation, One Race, One Language on westphalian nationhood. He will often draw on Max Mueller type of indology orientalists in his writing in constructing the Hindu claim to a golden past and thus an ethnostate.

In terms of modern connections you can see the use and abuse of orientalism in South Asian postcolonial studies depts in the west that end up peddling Hindutva ideology –

The geographer Sanjoy Chakravorty recently promised that, in his new book, he would “show how the social categories of religion and caste as they are perceived in modern-day India were developed during the British colonial rule…” The air of originality amused me. This notion has been in vogue in South Asian postcolonial studies for at least two decades. The highest expression of the genre, Nicholas Dirks’s Castes of Mind, was published in 2001. I take no issue with claiming originality for warmed-over ideas: following the neoliberal mantra of “publish or perish,” we academics do it all the time. But reading Chakravorty’s essay, I was shocked at the longevity of this particular idea, that caste as we know it is an artefact of British colonialism. For any historian of pre-colonial India, the idea is absurd. Therefore, its persistence has less to do with empirical merit, than with the peculiar dynamics of the global South Asian academy.

[...] No wonder that Hindutvadis in both countries are now quoting their works to claim that caste was never a Hindu phenomenon. As Dalits are lynched across India and upper-caste South Asian-Americans lobby to erase the history of their lower-caste compatriots from US textbooks, to traffic in this self-serving theory is unconscionable.

You can see writer sociologists beloved of western academia like Ashish Nandy argue for the "inherent difference of indian civilization makes secularism impossible" and posit that the caste ridden gandhian hinduism is the answer as though the congress wasn't full of hindutva-lites and that the capture of dalit radicalism by electoralism and grift is actually a form of redistribution. Sorry if thats not necessarily relevant I like to hate on him.

Then most importantly is the deployment of "Islamic Colonization" that Hindu India must be rescued from, which is merely cover for the rebrahmanization of the country. This periodization and perspective of Indian history is obviously riven up in British colonial orientalism, see Romila Thapar's work on precolonial India. Good piece on what the former means if you've not engaged with it, fundamentally it posits an eternal Hindu innocence.

the gym in the tunnels of the allianz arena was packed with bayern munich players. in one corner, mueller had an interesting debate with neuer and gnabry about the upcoming game, and the chance to actually win without having to tear themselves apart. lifting the weights on one of the benches was leon, doing five of each until he decided that more weight was necessary to make the training session valuable. 

and then there was she, sitting on a bench behind the bikes where her boyfriend currently attempted to reach his latest limits. joshua was focused on the changing numbers between the handles, pedaling faster by the minute. “almost there.” he muttered, loud enough for the female to catch the two words which weren’t exactly foreign to her. the same sentence, he panted over again when hidden underneath the comfortable duvets of their bed, thrusting in and out of her wet hole. clenching the thighs together, she attempted to hide the fact of how much those easy-spoken syllables affected her figure.

joshua took the training serious, he wanted to reach higher standards and impress the fans, and the main staff of bayern munich for as long as possible. but she wished, for a split second, that the ocean blue orbs stared at her, lingered at her face and he could see how she slowly fell apart behind him. 

as if the excellent view of his naked back and the flexing muscles wasn’t enough to torture the female, the deep breaths combined with the quiet groans made it impossible for her to focus on anything or anyone else anymore. rubbing the sweaty hands over the face, she attempted to calm herself down, but nothing seemed to work against the heat that pooled between her legs. slowly, she started to rub her legs together, trying find at least a tad of release but it wasn’t enough. 

she needed joshua‘s help. she needed him. 

manicured nails brushed through the strands, scratching carefully over the scalp as she stood up from the seat. the mission was clear to her. strutting over to the bicycles, she took her place in front of the panting male. 

underarms leaned on the small space on each side of the small screen, joshua watched the numbers change until her figure casted a shadow above him. tilting the head up, the blonde raised a single brow at his girlfriend in confusion. but she didn’t explain her needs to him. instead, she leaned forward herself. soft fingertips pressed against the collarbones of the football player and gently pushing him backwards in a seating position. 

he didn’t fight against the gestures of his girlfriend, the arms falling to his sides as his attentive gaze lingered on her. delicate hands placed on the space next to the small screen where his arms used to rest before, she tilted her upper body forward. seductively, she glanced upwards through her black, thick lashes at her boyfriend and smiled innocently. 

an expression that has never been easy to comprehend, never been easy to resist without feeling the effects. but joshua couldn’t tear the dilated pupils away from the picture in front of him, the luring gazes into a world of desire and lust. 

“joshua..” she pulled the name longer than needed, shamelessly almost moaning in the middle of the gym, in front of his teammates. mouth ajar, he wanted to reply and lecture her about the wrong picture she gave the others but it has never been easy to escape the magnificent spell of her innocent expression, infiltrated by the seductive glances. 

“how much longer?” she questioned in a whisper, attempting to clench the thighs together without the people around her noticing but joshua did. 

a reaction she almost had any time when she visited a game and cheered for him, in one of his jerseys. the aftermath was a very long night of orgasms and soft whimpers. 

the dazzled expression changed in a matter of seconds, the lips curled in an one-sided smile, a pleased and smug one. leaning forward again, he placed the calloused fingertips against the heated skin of her underarms, staring a fire inside of her. beads of sweat gathered on the forehead, pushed upwards against the wrinkles as he raised his eyebrows. “why are you asking, babe?” 

joshua didn’t need to ask, he knew the answer and still, he wanted to hear the words tremble out of her addictive mouth. syllables rolled off her tongue how much she needed him, forcing him to end the training session and busy himself with her body. 

she whined at the question, despising the fact that he wanted to lure the sentence out of her, make her beg for his attention. but she has never been the easiest challenge from their first date until this day. an idea popped in her head, the way she could turn this situation around and reach the moment, she desired. leaning further forward to speak without having another person eavesdropping on the conversation, she smiled innocently at him. 

“leon’s looking good, maybe i should ask him if he has a couple of minutes for me.” the words caught the male off guard, he didn’t expect a sort of comeback from the needy female. jaw clenched, the fuming anger about her thoughts with someone else caused a sudden possession. the need to show her who she truly belonged to and that those thoughts were entirely wrong to speak or think. 

fleshy fingers quickly found her face, the thumb pressed into the left cheek while the other four dug into the right one. pulling her closer to his reddened face, joshua closes the gap between them with a hard kiss. cheers erupted from around them, commentary was shared and laughter about the mature actions shared between the football player and his girlfriend. 

“shouldn’t have said that.” joshua growled against her lips, leaning back to climb off the bicycle. the dusty gray v neck was thrown over the shoulder when he raised his hand to announce their departure. 

for the males in the gym, he looked like a man who trained the entire day with the sweaty chest and the reddened face. instead, the muscles were relaxed, the anger burned in his blood and he needed to release it on the person who caused it. walking out of the room, she followed the fuming boyfriend like a lost puppy with her head down and chewing on the bottom lip. she didn’t know if the words caused the wrong reaction, if joshua was truly angered and the words led to an argument instead of being trapped underneath him while he pounded into her. 

as she rounded the corner towards the locker rooms, two large hands grabbed her by the waist and pushed her against the nearest wall. surprised by the sudden actions, she gasped as joshua trapped her between the cold wall and his warm figure. with the back turned to him, she could feel the bulge against the curve of her ass. 

hot breath fanned over the ear, as joshua dipped his head further down and blew featherlight kisses against the heated skin underneath her lobe. lids fell close as the ecstasy over washed any other emotion, and a quiet whimper rolled off her tongue.

“oh, you shouldn’t have thought about using goretzka as an attempt to get to me. should have just asked me nicely to fuck you.” letting his long fingers graze around her waist, he dipped them under the waistband of her jogging trousers. digits sprawled out above the underwear, he didn’t move them further than slightly underneath the belly button. 

“anything else you want, huh?” joshua questioned the female, the anger infiltrated his voice as he chuckled slightly. “you.” she whimpered, the bottom lip quivering as she tried to push herself off the wall to look at her boyfriend. but he didn’t give her the satisfaction, pushing his hard-on further against her, and as a result, her further against the wall. “exactly what you’re not going to get so easily anymore.” 

she wanted him, but she was going to receive the punishment for the tactics she used on him. profoundly, the worst decision she has made in the entirety of their relationship. 

the left knee placed on the backside of her thighs, he nudged them apart. with all his actions, joshua never forgot to stay on the gentle side of the world. he would not do anything that would cause her harm, he would hate himself if she had to experience such pain because of him. even when he was much rougher than usual, the blonde kept it easy-going.

“i could fuck you right here, against this wall.” he whispered against her skin as the soft lips traveled towards the left shoulder. the fingers that pressed into the waist moved up until he reached the thick strap of the tank top. peeling the fabric off the skin carefully, his lips left a trail of wet kisses along the shoulder blade. “and maybe, leon will walk around the corner, and see you like this. a whimpering mess for me.”

“josh, please.” she whined, hating to be declined of touching him. running the delicate fingers over the defined chest, down over the abs and towards the thin shorts which hung low on the trained body. 

“i can’t wait to hear you beg the entire night, love.” joshua grinned against the heated skin of his girlfriend, slowly and carefully biting the shoulder blade before stepping back from and releasing his tight grip on her. cheeks flustered from the sudden impact, the lids still closed, she didn’t bother to move an inch while the blonde admired the picture, he created. a mess of desire and lust, a whimpering mess for him.

F1Technical’s Balázs Szabó reports on the Sunday Berlin race of the 2022/2023 FIA Formula E World Championship from the Tempelhof paddock. Following the sunny weather yesterday, cold and rainy conditions welcomed the 22-driver field on the second day of running at the temporary Tempelhof venue in Berlin. As a result of the wet conditions, the pecking order from Day 1 has been completely changed for today with yesterday’s two fastest teams – Jaguar and Maserati – losing their competitiveness. Instead, it was the ABT Formula E team which took a shock front-row lockout with Robin Frijns taking pole from team-mate Nico Mueller. The start of the second Berlin E-Prix was not straightforward though as protesters gained access to the track by climbing up the catching fences just before the start. As the protesters sat down on the circuit, the start procedure was aborted and Race Director Scot Elkins briefly sent out marshals to the track to examine the track surface. When the race could be started, pole-sitter Frijns could hang on to his starting position to lead his team mate Nico Mueller into the first corner. Envision Virgin racer Sebastien Buemi occupied P3 with Jean-Eric Vergne, Mitch Evans and Pascal Wehrlein following the Swiss driver. Just like yesterday, drivers started to use their attack mode quite early on in the race as it proved beneficial yesterday on the temporary Tempelhof circuit where energy management is usually not easy to master. In the first phase of the race, drivers constantly changed the top positions as no one wanted to lead and lose the benefit of a tow which has proved very powerful and beneficial in terms of energy management so far this season. The two Porsche drivers Antonio Felix da Costa and Pascal Wehrlein managed to climb up the order and seemed to have the upper hand over the rivals. However, as soon as they hit the front, their competitors were able to react with Vergne taking over the lead on Lap 20. After starting from eighth on the grid, Cassidy slowly moved up the order and hit the front of the field at Turn 6 with 16 laps to go. Following his costly mistake yesterday, Dennis shadowed Cassidy for the last part of the race with one per cent more energy than the Kiwi. With only three laps left on the board, fourth-places Evans made a mistake which allowed Cassidy, Dennis and Vergne to escape into the distance. However, the Evans-led group closed in on the leading trio once again. Despite his power advantage, Dennis never looked likely to make a move, and Cassidy was able to secure his first Formula E race win of the season in Berlin. Dennis and Vergne completed the podium with yesterday’s race winner Mitch Evans following in P4. Despite their promising mid-race pace, Porsche driver Felix da Costa only managed a fifth place in front of local hero Maximilian Guenther, who showed a remarkable performance to bounce back from his low-key qualifying result. Championship leader Wehrlein appeared to be in contention for the win at the mid-point of the E-Prix, but dropped back to seventh with reigning champion Stoffel Vandoorne securing P8. 3D radargram brings new focus to Mars' north polar cap new enhanced 3D radar image offer a greatly improved view of the interior of the Martian north polar cap, according to a paper led by Planetary Science Institute Senior Scientist Nathaniel Putzig. Putzig's team, which included PSI researchers Matthew Perry, Isaac Smith, Aaron Russell and intern Isabella Mueller, produced and analyzed the 3D image using observations obtained with the Shallow Radar (SHARAD) instrument on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO). "In creating 3D radargrams, we assemble all the data from many 2D profiles across the region of interest and apply advanced 3D imaging methods to unravel all of the interferences present in the 2D profiles, placing the reflected signals at their points of origin to produce a geometrically corrected 3D image of the subsurface," said Putzig, lead author of the research that appears in The Planetary Science Journal. "The new 3D radargram really brings into focus many features that were previously difficult or impossible to map due to incomplete imaging of inherently 3D features with a collection of 2D profiles," Putzig said. "So far, we have only scratched the surface of understanding what the new data volume is telling us about the history of Martian polar processes and climate, and there is a lot more detailed mapping work to be done." SHARAD probes the subsurface—up to 4 kilometers deep—emitting radar waves within a 15- to 25-megahertz frequency band to achieve a desired depth resolution of approximately 15 meters. The returned radar waves, which are captured by the SHARAD antenna, are sensitive to changes in the electrical characteristics of rock, sand, and water ice that may be present in the surface and subsurface. Changes in the reflection characteristics of the subsurface, caused by layers deposited by geological processes in the ancient history of Mars, are also visible. "The results of the 3D imaging offer a better understanding of Mars by providing a greatly clarified view of subsurface features, which can be used to inform geologic interpretations of the origins of the polar deposits and their implications for Martian climate history. The details of the subsurface layering geometry can be used to infer the processes involved in the deposition and erosion of the layers over time," Putzig said. Juror 1

Originally from Ireland, the first juror and foreperson lives in West Harlem and has worked in sales for 28 years. The juror attended some college, and they said they get their news from the New York Times, Daily Mail, Fox News and MSNBC. The juror said they have heard about Trump’s three other criminal cases, to which Trump has pleaded not guilty.

Juror 2

An investment banker who lives with a spouse in Hell’s Kitchen in Midtown Manhattan, Juror 2 has a master’s degree in business administration and gets most of their news from the social media platform X.

Juror 5 is a self-identified person of color and lifelong New Yorker who lives in Harlem. They have a master’s degree in education and have been an English teacher for the past eight years. They said they “do not care for the news” and get most of their information from Google and TikTok.

Juror 6

Another New York City native, Juror 6 has a bachelor’s degree and works as a software engineer for a large media and entertainment company. They said they get their news mainly from the New York Times and TikTok.

Juror 7

Juror 7 is an attorney for a large corporate law firm who is originally from North Carolina but has lived in the Upper East Side for 12 years. They have a bachelor’s degree in business and a law degree.

Egg Harbor City awarded $5,000 Sustainable Communities grant

EGG HARBOR CITY – SustainableEHC, the city’s green team, Oct. 4 was awarded a $5,000 Atlantic City Electric Sustainable Communities grant.

The grant was offered to green teams in the Atlantic City Electric coverage area to support the development of environmental, open space and resiliency projects across South Jersey. 

One-time grants of up to $5,000 each, were awarded to 10 municipalities to support nature preservation, safer parks, and enhanced resiliency for local communities. This funding was made available through the Sustainable Jersey program and awarded at a breakfast meeting for grant recipients hosted at the Teamsters 331 Union Hall in Egg Harbor City.

“We are so pleased to help our local communities bring these projects to fruition and to support in ways that will have lasting impacts on not only the community, but the environment as well,” Atlantic City Electric Director of External Affairs Kristin McEvoy said. “We remain steadfast in our climate goals and recognize supporting our communities through these grants will foster a cleaner and safer environment.”

SustainableEHC will use the grant to continue upgrades to City Lake Park by cleaning up the north shore area of the park, restoring the historic Sibbel Shaler gravesite and providing interpretive signage about the cultural and historical significance of the Shaler family.

“In our work to help communities thrive in the face of a changing climate, these funded projects will build local resilience and preserve natural resources,” Sustainable Jersey Executive Director Randall Solomon said. “We're excited to partner with the Atlantic City Electric to produce actionable steps that address the state’s climate challenges and support a sustainable New Jersey.”

This year, Atlantic City Electric and Sustainable Jersey also awarded grants to the following municipalities:

Atlantic City ($5,000) – The grant will be used to support the development of the open space and recreation element of the City’s master plan.

Somers Point City ($5,000) – The grant will be used to update the landscaping and playground at local senior citizen center, including a temperature moderation project.

Commercial Township ($5,000) – The grant will be used to purchase an osprey nature sign at the local park.

Maurice River Township ($5,000) – The grant will be used to construct and install two large shade structures for the Delmont and Port Elizabeth Recreation areas.

Deptford Township ($5,000) – The grant will be used to restore and rehabilitate the Fasola Park steps.

East Greenwich Township ($5,000) – The grant will be used to redevelop Mickleton Park by removing invasive plants and develop a native plant nursey.

Upper Pittsgrove Township ($5,000) – The grant will be used to enhance signage along Elephant Swamp Trail to improve safety and cleanliness of the trail and guide residents to connecting trails and parks.

Medford Township ($5,000) – The grant will be used to develop a weather station and begin the second phase of a lightening detection system in the township to prepare residents for severe weather, save lives and reduce storm damage.

Long Beach Township ($5,000) – The grant will be used to build a resilience and restoration demonstration display.

The Sustainable Communities Grant program is part of Atlantic City Electric’s Climate Commitment, a multi-faceted, action-oriented effort to help the state of New Jersey achieve its clean energy and climate goals. To date, Atlantic City Electric has provided $275,000 in grants supporting environmental, open space and resiliency efforts in the communities it serves.
