-all the shimizus are cis bc their genders are too complex and also they want yuuya shimizu yaoi.

-c.c. is token nonbinary rep who gets a dramatic haircut and pants despite having none of those in canon bc theyre NOT ANDROGYNOUS THEY HAVE FRILLS THEYRE GIRLY THEYRE JUST NOT A GIRL.

-doremi is a "butch" lesbian with just a short haircut and nothing else butch.

-they make alva skinny and hawthorne cis and make them date. hawthorne is aro.

I'm taking advantage of WIP Wednesday to combat writing loneliness by flailing over impending OT3 progress in Shion's fic. This scene resulted from an impulsive experiment while drafting the next chapter, and now I'm in love with it.

Commander Erwin looks slightly irritated. “Regardless, we’re also here because Historia would like to express her gratitude.”

“Oh?”

“I’ve ordered rooms normally reserved for top MP brass and visiting nobility to be prepared for Survey Corps soldiers.” Historia crouches next to Shion to whisper in a conspiratorial fashion. “The one I’ve chosen for you can easily accommodate three people.”

“H-Huh?” Shock reverberates through her body.

“The members of Squad Levi aren’t blind, you know.”

Shion swallows a nervous laugh. The three of them weren’t subtle about sharing a room while at the outpost where they ran Eren’s Titan experiments. That feels like a lifetime ago; now, Levi may no longer wish to take advantage of such an arrangement. With Hange hospitalized, that would leave her alone. “Uh, thank you. For the kindness.”

Historia frowns. “I thought you’d be happier.”

“I am! But mostly surprised.”

“You thought none of us noticed?”

“Being roommates isn’t that big a deal.”

Her eyebrows dip skeptically. “Just roommates, huh.”

Levi’s unexpected reveal of the Titan serum goes better than Shion would’ve predicted. Yet its existence adds to Hange’s growing responsibilities despite their injured state as the Survey Corps devise plans leading up to Historia’s coronation.

“Show me the serum!” Hange’s cheeks flush as they eagerly grab empty air in Levi’s direction.

Shion immediately kneels on their bed to rest a restraining palm on their good shoulder. “Easy.” She then glares at Levi for his abrupt—and potentially dangerous—change of topic. “Hurry up with the details before Hange attempts something we’ll all regret.”

“This is a single dose to be injected into the arm or neck. The syringe resembles the one Rod Reiss intended Historia to use.” His eyes narrow. “Given his subsequent transformation, it’s unlikely to leave the target with their mind intact.”

“Eren did say that he was chained in place so Historia could eat him once she transformed.” Hange begins thoughtfully stroking their chin, to Shion’s relief. “Only shifters have been able to think for themselves while Titans, and that shifting ability must be rare.”

“So I don’t need to worry about you trying that serum yourself, right?” Her voice cracks.

Their eyes widen before they weave their fingers through hers. “I swear I won’t experiment with this serum on anyone, including myself.”

Shion slumps forward. “Thank goodness.”

Thank you for the tags, @poetikat and @arendaes! I know it's very much not Wednesday anymore, but I loved reading your words and I so appreciate you nudging me to share some of my own. 💜

I considered tagging people, but 1) I'm days late and 2) holy crap I'm so nervous posting this draft snippet from the upcoming chapter of Shion's fic because OT3 TIME OT3 TIME AAAAAAAH

As the first OT3 I've ever written and given how much I want to do right by my beloved characters, I've fretted over this scene for ages. Mostly under a cut to avoid overwhelming dashes with words ahaha~

Levi exhales heavily. “Idiot.”

“Yes, yes, I made stupid decisions, can we please move on?”

“No,” he snaps. “What do you want, Hange?”

“Honestly? To carry on like we have been. But that’s impossible now.”

“Why?”

“Uh, because you two are in love with each other. You slept together. I’m just in the way.”

“I want you to be in my way.” He grabs their collar and then presses his mouth against theirs.

Hange gapes at him, then at Shion. “Who the fuck is this guy and what did he do with Levi?”

Perhaps under different circumstances, she’d laugh. But Hange didn’t see his agonized reaction to their fall. His barely-restrained rage over the MP who attacked when they were vulnerable. And he visited their hospital room twice yesterday—once before the battle and once afterward. Despite Hange’s unexplained conviction that he wouldn’t.

“Just roommates, huh.” Historia’s words echo in her mind. Did his squad see what we couldn’t?

“You’re supposed to find that funny,” Hange grumbles.

“Oh, uh, yeah. Sorry. It is funny. It’s just… this is a lot.” She stumbles over words that are far too weak to convey the complex feelings engulfing her heart.

“Should I not have kissed you?”

“What? No. I liked that,” she replies without hesitation, to her own surprise.

“Really?!”

“… Really.” Shion crosses her arms and tilts her head, her forehead furrowed in thought. When did that change? Many weeks ago, Hange asked her whether she liked them the same way she liked Levi. She said no. And then Hange got badly injured not once, but twice. The first time was a gut punch, the second like someone had ripped out her heart. They’ve become an irreplaceable part of her life, given her a place she belongs when she never expected to find that again.

“Oi, four-eyes.”

They both glance at Levi.

“I doubt you’ll get what you said you want.”

Hange’s lower lip trembles. “Ha, right, that was a lot to ask—”

“Unless you believe us kissing is carrying on like we have been.”

“Huh? Oh. Hold on. That’s what you meant?!”

He shrugs. “You know I’m not good with words.” Then his piercing gaze returns to Shion. “It’s your turn to share what you’re thinking.”

“But I don’t want to say the wrong thing.” She slumps face first into the hospital bed’s thin comforter.

“If it’s how you feel, how could it be wrong?”

Thank you for the tag, @arendaes! <3 I was given the words MOMENT, STAR, and BLUE.

STAR: From the post-Dragon Age 2 fic for Neri Surana--the ambitious third fic in their series--this scene occurs after they track down Anders. (Context: The first fic occurs during Awakening when Neri can't name how they feel. The second fic is during Dragon Age 2 when they're full of regrets for not being able to say it.)

“When I fall for someone, it doesn’t end well. Karl, Hawke… I don’t want to do that to us. To you.” I stare at the stars through the window for a few heartbeats. “We both know bad things happen in this world. We’ve each borne an unfair share. I can’t blame you for holding back.” “You left a ‘but’ unspoken, didn’t you.” I have to chuckle. How well Anders still knows me, despite the passage of time. “I learned the hard way that I’d rather live with the consequences of saying how I feel than leave those feelings unsaid.”

BLUE: From the upcoming chapter in Shion's Attack on Titan fic, Cut to the Feeling.

Aching, stiff muscles nudge Shion to reluctant consciousness. She opens her eyes to a clear blue sky; no traces of the dawn’s light remain. Damn, she slept long and hard. Though the late hour likely explains the absence of nearby bedrolls, she doubts Levi would’ve chosen to sleep next to her. Not after last night’s conversation.

Whatever these affections mean for him, she wants— no, she needs this moment to last as long as possible. Because whatever caused him to impose distance between them is gone. She loses herself in his closeness, his scent and touch and taste.

So I'm breaking the tag-game tradition by just... posting some recent writing on a Saturday, lol. This is the latest draft of an upcoming Shion/Levi scene (pre-Levi confession, pre-OT3) that's been eating a hole in my brain.

Ah, blorbos who believe they don't deserve love are my kryptonite.

“People near me tend to die.”

The layered implications of Levi’s statement shake her to the core. “As long as I’m alive, I’m not going anywhere. I love you.”

His entire body shudders. “That will only give you grief.”

Shion grips his shoulders as she steps back, creating just enough space to stare into his eyes. “Yes, love can lead to grief. Hell, love can be frustrating, even grueling. Losing Rena tore me apart. But I don’t regret loving her. And I won’t regret loving you.”

“Oh? You nearly lost faith in me after I tortured that MP.”

She wrinkles her nose. “Love doesn’t blind me to a person’s flaws. Instead, it drives me to better understand them, and, if I can, to push them to be their best self.”

“I can’t be more than who I am, Shion.”

She risks brushing her thumb across his cheek. “Turns out I love who you are.”

He glances to the side. “You shouldn’t.”

Impulsively, Shion kisses Levi’s forehead, allowing her lips to linger against his skin. “Do my feelings bother you?”

“Yes.”

“Because you think I shouldn’t have them? Or that you don’t deserve them?”

“Isn’t that the same question?”

Shion snorts. Because if she didn’t, she might cry. “People will care about you regardless of whether you think they should. Let’s say you drive me away. Will you push away Hange, too?”

He’s silent.

“I don’t want you to be alone.” She hugs him once more. “I’m here for you. If you want me to be. But if I… if you don’t want me around, then I’ll honor that.”

He still doesn’t speak.

So she lets him go. Even though walking away rips her soul in half.

With assistance from Orvud's Garrison, Survey Corps forces defeat the massive Titan that was once Rod Reiss. Yet a rift remains between Shion and Levi. With Hange still hospitalized, Shion expects to face the night alone. To her surprise, she doesn't.

Shion throws herself into her duties for the next few hours—such as dismantling the unused set of explosives and interviewing soldiers for her report to Hange—stopping only when ordered to eat dinner. After the meal, she visits Hange’s hospital room to find them sound asleep. She leaves a scribbled summary of today’s battle with a personal note at their bedside before navigating a maze of halls and stairs to reach her assigned quarters.

Fuck, this room is excessive. Granted, this is one of the fanciest buildings in Orvud, but it’s surreal to experience that opulence, to think about how much money was wasted here instead of rebuilding Stohess or supporting refugees fleeing Titan activity.

Over a dozen candles burn in wall sconces, most of which she blows out to conserve them. A four-poster bed more than double the size of a captain’s bunk sits against one wall, far too many pillows piled on top of it. The oak dresser is as wide as she is tall; Zane would probably admire its construction. Situated on its polished surface is a washbasin, the softest linen cloths she’s ever touched, and an ornately gilded mirror.

Oh, she’s a terrible sight. She diligently brushes knots from her hair before braiding it again so it’s out of the way while she reviews her notes and begins drawing the grotesque not-face of the Titan per Hange’s request. When she can’t stare at her third sketch attempt any longer, she wearily flops backward onto the bed, exhaling as she drapes both arms over her face. She’s running out of distractions. Perhaps the best course of action would be to try to sleep, nightmares be damned—

Knuckles rap against her door. Who’d swing by at this hour? Hange wouldn’t knock. Historia’s a possibility, though her movements are likely restricted now, or it might be Sasha. “It’s open.”

Shion barely swallows a gasp when Levi steps inside. He slumps against the closing door, his head bowed, looking as exhausted as she feels. But he doesn’t speak. When she can’t stand the dead air any longer, she murmurs, “Hi.”

He merely grunts.

Distance yawns between them as silence returns. She doesn’t know why he’s here. She isn’t sure whether she wants him to be here. But it’s the first time he’s sought her out since their disastrous reunion after the Stohess ambush. This heavy atmosphere is better than being alone. Right?

I went through Shion's longfic (Cut to the Feeling) for Hange and Shion moments that don't require much in-universe knowledge for context, which ended up being a surprisingly reassuring exercise. I adore these two together.

The woman points over her shoulder with her thumb. “Commander Erwin and Captain Hange are that way if you want to hear more. If they’re willing to talk about it.”

It sounds worse than she feared. But Hange’s alive. She pats Salt’s neck and then rushes as quickly as her weary legs will carry her in the direction the scout indicated. En route, her eyes frantically dart from face to face. No one looks victorious. At best, they’re tired. At worst, they look like they survived hell. A small crowd gathers around the med wagon, awaiting treatment. None of them are members of her squad.

When a familiar and thankfully unbandaged profile comes into view, Shion can’t resist calling out her friend’s name. “Hange!”

The captain spins around, joyful surprise covering their face. “Shion?!” They sweep her into a crushing hug. “You’re alive! When your squad came back without you, I feared the worst.”

Once her mother is out of sight, Shion’s knees buckle.

“Whoa!” Hange catches her in a reassuringly tight embrace. “I’m sorry.”

“Wh-Why are you apologizing?”

“You saw her because of me.”

“I think you were the excuse, not the reason.” She buries her face in her friend’s shoulder. “I’m really glad you were here.”

“Me, too.” They gently stroke her hair. “Your mother’s a bitch.”

“Yeah.”

“Fuck what she said. I want you at my side, Shion.” Hange kisses her forehead.

“I’d like to remain on duty here, if you’ll allow it,” Shion murmurs.

The commander’s gaze bores into her before he nods. “Watch for Titans. Support the medics as best you can. And await our return.”

“Yes, sir.” She maneuvers Hange back into a resting position. “That was reckless.”

“It was important.”

“So is your recovery. Don’t you dare pull a Levi on me. How are you feeling?”

“Like shit.” Hange tentatively touches their burned cheek. “Salve? Did you treat me?”

“Of course I did.”

“Thanks.” They grip her hand. “Things keep getting worse.”

“Rest now. We’ll deal with the mess later.”

Hange’s eyes drift shut. “Mind staying next to me... just for a moment?”

“I’m here for you,” she promises.

Shion wrinkles her nose. “You’ve been chatty for someone who’s in the hospital.”

“Lying here is boring! It’s nice to have visitors break up the monotony.”

“True.” She knows that monotony, that loneliness, all too well. “How are you feeling?”

“Better, though not great.” They grimace. “I heard Erwin lost his right arm.”

“… Yeah. Did Jonas tell you what happened?”

“As much as he was willing to. We took back Eren, but too many died. And a lot of us are recuperating right now.” Hange takes Shion’s hand. “Thanks for taking care of me. My injuries are, uh, kind of extensive. I’ll stay put for a few days, make sure I heal right. As you said, my recovery is important.”

She manages a smile. “I’m glad to hear that.”

“I’ll pull rank and order you to rest, if I have to.”

“I slept in today!”

“After a long mission and staying up all night. I’ve already asked Levi to make sure you sleep.”

Blood drains from Shion’s cheeks. “If he tries to dose me with sleeping medicine—”

“—then you’ll deserve it.”

She sighs. “I promise I’ll prioritize sleep.”

Shion hangs back as the rest of them disperse to their tasks, Levi’s squad following him as he snaps orders. Once they’re alone, she rests a hand on Hange’s shoulder. “How are you holding up?”

“I hate this. I hate all of this. But we must do something, something proactive. Just reacting to what’s been thrown at us will get us nowhere.” Hange groans. “Handle the medical kits for me? They’re too essential to abandon. And we need this place to look like we planned to leave.”

“Right. Leave it to me.” She swallows. “About Levi—”

“He’ll be fine. His new squad won’t hold him back. You’ve seen that, too. Haven’t you?”

“Yeah, I have.”

“I don’t like it.” Hange slumps against her. “But I’m doing the best I can.”

Shion strokes their hair. “I know, I know. I’m sorry I can’t do more to help. That sometimes I’m even making it harder.”

“No. I need someone to make me defend my choices. Might help me see holes I wouldn’t otherwise.”

“Captain—” Moblit cuts himself off as he sticks his head back into the room. “Uh, when you have a moment…”

They straighten. “Yeah. I’m on my way.”

She drags her fingers down her face. “What we did was wrong.”

“It was. And I’m sorry. For losing control. For making you participate in all of this.”

“I could have refused. I didn’t.”

“You aren’t blaming your actions on following orders?”

“No. I have to own those actions. Forever.”

Hange sighs heavily. “Do you hate me now?”

Shion swallows. “I don’t hate you. I’m trying not to hate anyone. Including myself. Hate just makes everything worse.” Her shoulders slump. “But hatred is hard, so hard to avoid.”

“That’s… damned impressive. I don’t have that kind of strength.”

“This isn’t strength.” She barks a laugh. “It’s desperation. Or something.”

“To you, maybe. To me, you look strong.” Their tone is hauntingly, achingly genuine.

She impulsively kisses her friend’s forehead. “Then you should use my strength when you need it.”

Something new shines in Hange’s eyes. “From now on, I will.”

Hange suddenly embraces her. “I’m so fucking happy that you’re still alive. You’re a damned good soldier, but more importantly, I don’t want to think about what I’d do without you.”

Energy drains from Shion’s limbs. She buries her face in Hange’s neck, unable to speak. A familiar acrid scent reveals they’re overdue for a bath—she is too—but in this moment, she couldn’t care less.

“You’re exhausted.” They stroke her hair. “You told me to use your strength when I need it. The same goes for you. Hell, I’ll carry you through these woods if I have to.”

She straightens with a grimace. “I can still walk!”

“I’m serious.”

“I know.” She can’t stop a smile. “Thanks, Hange. I appreciate you more than I can say.”

“Is that so?” They waggle their eyebrows. “I’ll remind you of this the next time I exasperate you.”

“Oi, please don’t exasperate me on purpose.”
