Any subclasses you think are "full" in the sense that it's difficult to create a new operator that isn't encroaching on the niches of the others in it's subclasss.
Got a few!
Deadeyes - There was a really long stretch between Fartooth and Lunacub, and when Lunacub finally came out she was pretty much a more specialized take on Firewatch's S1. That's because it's kind of hard to squeeze more into this archetype. They're long ranged, single target, slow but hard hitting units, aka actual Snipers, but there's only so many ways you can spin this idea, especially when your first two Deadeyes were Firewatch and Ambriel.
Executors - This subclass was done, and the existence of Texas the Omertosa and Kirin Yato prove they didn't know how to make more of them that wasn't just pumping big DPS numbers into a fast redeploy unit. Before these two, the Executor class might have been one of the most holistic, decently balanced archetypes in the game, all with their different uses. Gravel was the tank, Red was the stunner, Waai Fu the silencer, Kafka for sleep, and Phantom the assassin that could hit two parts of the map at once. There wasn't any room for more.
Chargers - This was not a balanced subclass from the very beginning, and Hypergryph kind of realized that too. Plume was really effective for a 3 star, Vigna was REALLY effective period, and when Bagpipe came in she instituted herself as 1/2 of an iron fist over the entire vanguard class that's never been overthrown until now. It says something when your worst unit is Reed, who isn't even numerically bad, she just dared to be a niche unit (whose niche had much better options in other classes) in a subclass of monsters. Wild Mane was a good unit to sunset Chargers with imo—not stupidly broken, but with a unique and well-thought out skillset that can be applied to a variety of strategies. Speaking of Vanguards though
Flagbearers - You know it's hard to make more units of a certain subclass when you ask 90% of players who the strongest Vanguard is and they will all say Myrtle, the 4 star that has ruled over all content even slightly above average difficulty since the moment she came out. I don't know how a new Flagbearer even hopes to exist, honestly. Elysium and Saileach are both incredibly busted and yet Myrtle still reigns supreme by virtue of being Myrtle.

Pier Paolo Pasolini.

AK the game question, the new banner was good for me. So between Vigna, Akafuyu gaming, Indigo, or some other low rarity operators, which should I level first for a quick deployed DPS to take down chunky bosses that are engaged with defenders?
Assuming that by quick deployed DPS you mean someone you can drop on someone already blocked, aka helidropping, the one that fits your criteria there the best is Akafuyu; Vigna can also do that to some degree, but she's entirely dependent on S2 uptime for her damage, and she's not a good helidrop Operators (even at S2M3, she needs 15 SP to charge her first S2 use). Akafuyu fares a bit better and can hold better if your tank dies (10 SP needed at S2M3; not ideal either), but your actual helidrops for engaged bosses should be Dreadnoughts like Melantha, Franka, Skadi, etc. It's kind of their thing. You can also use some Arts Fighters (like Mousse) in this regard, with Surtr being, in fact, so insanely busted precisely because she's so immensely good at exactly this with her S3 (S3M3 needs 5 SP and goes hard as hell).

Is there an operator you really like the gameplay of but never use because of their story/bad vibes & the flip-side, is there an operator you like the lore of but never use because their kit is so bad
I don’t really have anyone who falls under the former. I still use people I think have bad vibes if I find their gameplay fun or useful, like SilverAsh. I rarely treat gameplay as if it were canon, except for instances where they do something really cool with the level design that reflects something in the story like sometimes happens.
For the latter, I do have a couple. I’d like to use Shining more but I just never find myself needing her defense buff. I only ever consider her if I feel like Aak buffing someone who would die otherwise, and I don’t even do that much because I haven’t given him masteries yet. I want to use Ch’en more but she’s hard to justify the squad space for when Irene is right there. Ch’en certainly isn’t in as bad a spot as a lot of other characters but I still find myself rarely using her when content gets mildly challenging. I really wish I could use Saga more but the DP generation meta is entirely eclipsed by flagpipe and agents sadly, and she doesn’t have as much other utility or versatility as, say, Muelsyse. I really wish Grani was good but I haven’t even leveled her yet, I know I’d just be disappointed compared to Bagpipe or Vigna. Perish in Frost once again has me wishing Frostleaf wasn’t godawful. I’d like to use Haze because she’s great in ALSiD but I have too many better casters. Honorable mention to Vigil, wasn’t my favorite character of Il Siracusano (though I did enjoy his story because everything in that event was great) but god does he not deserve that clusterfuck of a kit.

Hello! You mentioned about your arknights friend-ships?? Please please share!
Tumblr media
Hooooooo boy, this is going to be a Long One. Even before I got the Lingering Echoes brainrot (and believe me, there will be plenty of Ebenholz and Czerny in here), my main source of creative interaction with the game was to imagine how my many operators interacted. So a lot of the friendships here are inspired by my own team comps!
Gonna' put this under a readmore...
Vigna & Zima: The Vanguard Besties! They bash in heads, then hang out together to talk music and such, helping each other pretend they are both Normal Teen Girls.
Similarly, Utage & Angelina & Every Other Teen: Utage and Angelina have unofficially decided that they're in charge of helping the other teen on RI lead somewhat normal lives. They're the Cool Older Sisters who check in on everyone, lead events like movie nights and slumber parties, etc. They also have plenty of Girl Talk nights themselves!
Amiya & Beeswax: Sometimes, Amiya needs to unwind and empathize with someone who is a solid foundation of Calm And Chill. This is when she hangs out with Beeswax, both of them unwinding while they catch up.
The Lappland Protection Squad (Lappland and every high-block character): Anyone who blocks enemies for Lappland to slice and dice on the battlefield gets a shirt. It started as a jest to fluster Bison, but then Lappland just...kept doing it. Now nearly every Defender and a few high-block Guards like Gaviel all have a "Lappland Protection Squad" shirt. Some of them even wear it around the landship, which genuinely makes Lappland happy.
Hellagur & Dusk: Somehow, these old souls have reached an understanding, and Hellagur can approach Dusk with the perfect mix of respect and authority. Aka he is one of the few who can actually drag Dusk out of her room for nearly any reason. He's given her candy, and she's offhandedly given him a painting that he's quietly hung in his room.
Czerny & Lumen: This mostly crops up because @cherrygrudge and I keep RPing them in games together, so now they are Universally Pals. Czerny's drive inspires Lumen, while Lumen keeps Czerny in-check health-wise, and both are fair confidantes when the other is feeling low. Lumen has also figured out a few massages to help with Czerny's Oripathy-related backaches, bless his soul.
Czerny & Exusiai: Another friendship inspired by a friend, this one being discussed in-depth with @annierosaart. These two actually see through each other's masks of bravado on the battlefield, so they can actually open up and talk about their deeper feelings with each other. Usually while drinking. They drink together a fair bit if the other cannot find another drinking partner.
Ebenholz & Stainless & RockRock & Surtr: Stainless is the extrovert who drags the introverts along on adventures and gets them to all hang out. They especially like going to rock shows together, sometimes supervising the teen operators like Vigna while out. (Also, Stainless and Ebenholz are both trans and bond over this, I do not make the rules).
Sesa & Mr. Nothing: Once these two start talking, they do not stop and no one can understand them. Are their eccentricities feeding into each other, or are they trying to one-up each other...?
Czerny & Rope: I've rambled about this elsewhere, but both come from rough and poor backgrounds, and I think them bonding over this (and how honestly tough it is to recover and accept help) would be neat to see.
Ebenholz & Rosmontis & Ifrit: The "Mad Science Brain Bastards" trio, who while seeming to clash on the outside actually balance each other well on the inside. Ebenholz especially keeps an eye out on the girls and is helping teach them music to better control their Arts, but they keep him grounded too. If one is havibg a bad brain day, expect the other two to crop up and help posthaste.
Carnelian & Nightmare: Carnelian actually gets along with both beings, and it seems to help Nightmare to actually have a friend of her own. Everyone else watches warily to hope Carnelian will continue to be a *positive* influence...
Archetto & Bagpipe: They talk about dreams and farming, among other things, you can catch them in the greenhouse sometimes, working on crops and singing, or sharing a drink after hours.
La Pluma & Pallas: La Pluma looks after Pallas whenever the Minoan Hero is drinking at her bar, and is also one to actually ask about Pallas's many stories, which Pallas appreciates.
Pallas & Hellagur: Also old war hero drinking buddies, though Hellagur is actually a good influence who keeps Pallas from getting too deep in the cups.
Ebenholz & Texas: Inspired by a ficlet by @catgirlcrisis, but these two would have A Lot to talk about...or just be happy to vibe without saying anything at all, especially while their louder companions are up to Antics.
Czerny & Blitz: Czerny is helping teach Blitz about the differences between Leithanien and German culture (and they are...also drinking buddies). Blitz also keeps sharing Earth songs with Czerny to see if the composer can "help him recreate his favorite songs here", though it's mostly Blitz bringing over meme songs. Czerny has caught on, but he actually likes some of the songs (he managed to make a slow ballad out of "Never Gonna Give You Up"), so he doesn't mind.
Reed & Pozyemka: Poets who wish they could hide away in a fantasy land, but they both have to face reality and make a change. Still, they find time to unwind together.
Ebenholz & Viviana: I saw a comic once of them being childhood friends and I love it to bits. If Viviana ever joins RI, her and Eben are so delighted to reunite and catch up. They talk *a lot* about books.
Cardigan & Beeswax: Odd friends from the Leithanien Group Chat (as Cardi is in fact Leithanien, and Beeswax tags along with Carnelian to enough events/chats that she's considered an Honorary Member by the others). Cardigan enthusiastically attempts to help Beeswax with horn upkeep and such, and while she's a bit of a klutz with is...well, Beeswax is a klutz too, so she doesn't mind.
I could spin up plenty more, but I hope you all enjoy at least some of these!

New AK ask. What region (Columbia, Sargon, Kazdel, etc) do you want to learn more about the most? Who do you think we should be following in an event that explores it?
Ooh this is a neat one, yeah. Let's start with considering those 3 first as there's certainly things to say there.
Columbia - We still have Lonetrail yet to drop and any further storyline following that for the Rhine Lab arc, plus there's now the upcoming Blacksteel Worldwide event Come Catastrophes or Wakes of Vultures to give us further exploration.
I want them to free Domma from NPC jail but that might require a Mountain Alter-worthy event :/ Orchid, Frostleaf or Vigna might have more potential there.
Sargon - We have the Acahualla storyline that may get a third event, and now Reclamation Algorithm: Fire Within the Sand has provided an expansion of the Sand Soldier/Old Isin section of Walk in the Dust story. Manticore gets some story time from that one too, which was nice to see.
A look at Beeswax getting to do her own thing more confidently might be fun, but then personally I'd be more down for something following adorably-precious Estelle who has been given snippets so far of her getting through her anxieties and dealing with that 'being seen as a battle goddess' moment. That IS2 mapping with the Archosauria trio was perfect, we need more.
Kazdel - This would be interesting since they only ever showcased it as cold, snow-covered ruins until that one scene in Episode 11 of the capital that repeatedly got destroyed and rebuilt. Most of the related cast are major players of the main story Act 2, whether as NPCs unlikely to join or Operators resolving certain threads and fates.
(Playable Closure is so close yet just out of reach...) Hoederer might be a good solo event candidate as a What the F... style interlude if we regroup with him in Episode 13. Or hey, Meteorite Alter please? She needs something after the whole 'traumatised by autopilot!Specter fighting' gag and her story with Firewatch... W Alter could be an Episode-related moment if that has any possibility.
Sami is going to be covered by IS4 and its coinciding vignette event for Typhon, Skógrinn Svartr Vill Einn Draumr. Aegir will likely be explored through the next installment of the Abyssal Hunters storyline.
We need events for Durin, Higashi, Rim Billiton and Minos for further explorations/catching up to other locales.
Seeing Croque and Deculture again would be great but not anything new Durin-wise so maybe we could have sleepyhead Durin visiting elsewhere. We don't particularly need a Myrtle Alter unless she's gonna be the Ultra-Super Flagbearer to show up Saileach...
So far Higashi has effectively been vaguely explained as doing their own thing and one additional loadscreen lore tidbit established how they curbstomped Ursus trying to invade. The recent Leaves Chasing Fire/A Flurry to the Flame Monster Hunter collab featured a rather isolated mountain village, as MonHun is wont to do. My picks for a lead would be: Matoimaru, Tsukinogi and Utage. Overlooked launch unit, niche Supporter, and cute gyaru needs justice for that damn module 'Talent'.
For a Rim Billiton event it could center on April and/or Savage; Ansel; Asbestos on her solo travels. Getting to the bottom of either the incident in Kroos the Keen Glint's past or Popukar's Lumberyard would be neat too.
And Minos - Sideroca or Perfumer Lena, I'd like. They need some appreciation. Rather little to work with compared to others, so yeah we really need some kind of story there.

idk if it's because I have her module or something, but so far Vigna has been a much more reliable Vanguard operator for me than Grani. I think it might be that when I deploy a Charger type, I need them to do damage, which Vigna and her S2 can pretty handily do. Maybe there's a niche for Grani that I haven't thought of, or her module is hiding something good. I'll have to check that out.

Squad Unknown is so fucking good!!
Listening to it repeatedly now I’m just envisioning W grabbing Blaze and Vigna etc to get Ines singing for the song about her while Paprika jams out to the finished thing privately while knitting.
Blaze being dragged into another W-made band thing as if it's gonna go over well AHHAA it's always so fun imagining operators on instruments
thinking of Paprika listening to music while knitting is adorable. yeah she'd find Ines' theme to be cool. actually i'm gonna keep that in mind i like the image of paprika jamming out while knitting a lot i wanna make that real...

Any 4/5* you feel that are stuck between their stronger 6* and their more efficient 3/4*? I really like using Executor, but I often feel like Pinecone/Chalter (for a lack of better words) invalidate him.
Oh boy do I have some candidates
Reed
Reed has the great misfortune of being both an early, experimental unit, and being part of the Charger vanguards. Here's the thing, nearly all the Chargers are objectively great units with their high ATK, fast attack speed, and ability to refund their original DP cost. However, the issue is that no one really uses them, with the exception of Bagpipe, who acts as the mighty servant of the vanguard goddess, Myrtle.
Whenever a Charger DOES get used for actually doing their intended job of picking off trash for easy DP, the 3 star Plume does a swell job, while 4 star Vigna is just straight up hitting above her weight class by combining a big ATK buff with a crit talent.
This has made 5 star Chargers very sad as they're stuck between not being bagpipe while not being nearly as efficient as Vigna, but Reed is ESPECIALLY sad because the other two 5 star Chargers are both Free operators, and better than her. Grani can block 2 while increasing her DEF to make her decently tanky, while Wild mane has redeployment CD reduction on her module and synergy with the Dubstep Polish Horses team, while Reed has.... RES, and an ASPD bonus if she takes Arts damage, when her gimmick is that she's the Charger with Arts damage (enemies that deal Arts are likely to have high RES).
Glaucus
Unlike poor Reed, Glaucus isn't notably weaker than the rest of her Decel Binder class, but just like poor Reed, she's a weird, experimental unit that is sandwiched between stronger and more efficient options, namely Podenco for the 4 star and Angelina and Suzuran for the 6 stars.
Podenco offers a lot of versatility for cheap investment. She can heal allies with her skill 1, or throw a poison vial that constantly slows and silences enemies inside its range, very useful in IS. Meanwhile, Angelina and Suzuran are Angelina and Suzuran.
Poor Glaucus specialized in being an anti-drone unit when many flying enemies stopped being drones, while all the actually dangerous drones were Arts drones that had RES and needed to be taken down by Marksmen. She's still not terrible if you want to use her (the AOE of her S2 is huge), but objectively speaking it's hard to justify her most of the time.
Franka
Until the advent of modules, Dreadnoughts suffered pretty badly from an opportunity cost issue: their 3 star Melantha was way too fucking strong for her rarity, and could do most of what you would use a Dreadnought for anyway, so why would you bother raising the rest? 6 star Skadi was maligned as the worst 6 star in the game for this reason (though she still had her uses as a very big stat stick now and then) until even sadder blue girl Mostima came about.
But then modules and their upgrades arrived, and Hypergryph decided if they were going to be obvious about being Bloodborne fans, then they might as well go all the way and made the Abyssal Hunter squad one of the most bullshit busted teams in the game, with Skadi receiving massive buffs both from the modules, the upgrade effects, and the upgrade effects of the other Abyssal Hunters. She's now very strong when part of the AH squad. Dreadnoughts also saw another stupidly strong unit join their ranks with Nearl the Radiant Knight, whose ability to ignore deployment limit has led to her even being called a cheat.
Meanwhile, Matoimaru's stock rose with the module upgrades, with the upgraded stats both giving her more base HP, while increasing the HP gained from her talent, leading to a very cheap operator with a truly gargantuan HP pool, and thus gave her a special niche away from Melantha as a raw HP tank.
Add that to True Damage becoming a real damage type in the game (Franka doesn't actually deal True Damage, she just ignores DEF instead, which is an important distinction now that phys damage reduction and phys evasion are both things that exist) and Franka already struggling to justify her existence when an entire subclass of guards do Arts damage which also ignores DEF, and she's just not having a good time. Her best use case is as a counter to enemies with low health but extremely high DEF and RES such as the Originiutants from Originium Dust, or Plastic Knight and his shielded groupies, but then, you can just use actual True Damage to get around that too.
But there's one last operator I have in mind. Someone truly sandwiched between a rock and a hard place
Mr Nothing
Poor, poor Nothing. There are only 3 Merchants in Arknights, with the 6 star being an incredibly powerful counter to stun mechanics, and the 4 star being one of the strongest operators in the whole game.
Nothing has... nothing... going for him. He has the very baffling trait of having a gacha roll for his S2, where you can randomly get one of three different effects and if you don't get the right one you need to turn it off and reroll, while his S1 makes him stop blocking entirely and take a nap.
His stun from his talent can be useful now and then, and some dedicated fans out there have definitely found ways to actually make Nothing do something, but out of all the units I've mentioned so far, no one's as sad as Mr. Nothing.

Arknights asks: 12, 30!
12 Favorite operator of each class?
This is a fun one
Vanguard: my favorite by design is Scavenger, but I only ever actually run Flametail, Saileach, Siege, and Texas
Guard: Lappland without question. I love a girl who can ignore game mechanics with silences, attack enemies from far away, attack flying enemies, and be a feral lesbian
Defender: Asbestos no contest. Although most defenders are very gender, I would love to be the huge woman with a huge shield for my allies. Honorable mention to Hoshiguma, Liskarm, Ashlock, Aurora, and Nearl
Sniper: Meteorite. Ribbed sweater, big naturals, thigh highs, a combat skirt, tactical high heels, adorable horns, and a long range crossbow that fires armor-piercing explosives. She’s everything I want in a woman /want to be and more.
Caster: Eyjafjalla and Click are the ones I use most, but I really like Skyfire’s whole “rain down meteors upon my enemies” thing. Honorable mention to Amiya who I still think looks more like she has donkey ears than rabbit ears and Pudding for seemingly not realizing Closure was flirting with her and using “Pudding” as her actual operative name
Medic: my medic pool is very slim, all my 5 and 6 star medics were given to me by events or through the store, I’ve never pulled any of them. Perfumer is the one I use most, but Gavial is my favorite. Gay ass crocodile with a fat tail gf
Supporter: Glaucus, sea slug with anti-air arts damage that is also Arknights disability rep? Hell yeah. Also I think she and blue poison are gay which makes me like her even more. Also also her gimmick of being a supporter that does the job of some snipers but with arts damage is done that I very much enjoy.
Specialist: there’s too many good options. Spalter, Gladiia, Waai Fu, Kafka, Gravel (kissies), Kafka and a bunch more. Overall my favorite is probably Manticore because her niche is interesting and her gender is enviable
30 favorite skin?
Does Swimsuit Nearl pre-bulge nerf count? If not then I’m going to limit it to skins I actually have so that I don’t get too thirsty about Texas skins and instead go with the skin I kinda of have to say: fishing Vigna

Otherwise lappland with blood on her face

Siracusa getting a proper Italian dub gives me hope we might get more dubs in other languages and my one gripe about the en voices would fade into nothingness cause I can just change their voices into the intended experience™️
Now the big question tho. What would the Sarkaz use? They're not one clean analogue like other countries, and as much as I like to personally insist HRE Germany is the closest, I can't deny the clear Latin focus they always give the Sarkaz.
What's your thoughts on this?
I'd really love to see a Tekken approach as well, if we could have The Intended Language for every given Operator as an option, it'd be incredibly refreshing.
Sarkaz are a really difficult question and I personally don't think they are one people specifically -- I don't want them to be one people specifically -- as much as a bunch of different peoples united less by real world circumstances reflected into the game and more by in-universe circumstances. Some say that Kazdel finds its etymology in každé, proto-slavic for "everyone", but then Sarkaz apparently finds its own etymology in sarkasmós (σαρκασμός) (Greek), "to tear apart", but I've heard of other possible etymology I think it was in German that I can't recall right this second. Then you have the fact that "Sarkaz" is as much a race as an umbrella term for a wide, wide variety of very different people: You have Vampires (Eastern Europe) like Warfarin, Gargoyles (French) like Mudrock, Goliaths (Hebrew) like most Sarkaz enemies, Wendigo (North American) like Patriot, Banshees (Irish, Celtic, Scottish) like Logos (*Though keep in mind that in Chinese, they are explicitly called Ni Yao, which is more often associated with succubi (Hebrew)), among others, and as you can see, pinning all of them into One country or people is, in my opinion, to ignore the nuance.
I've seen people make good points as to why they would be a German allegory and a Jewish allegory, but I personally prefer Sarkaz as not being Any One People, and for the sake of languages, I'd go for their etymologic origin and justify that in-universe one way or another, or, the idea I like the most, just the language that the specific character would be expected to speak based on their lore and circumstances. Vigna, for example, would be English given she's a Sarkaz from Columbia.
