Hey have you heard about a scandal with a voice actor named Sakurai? I'm a bit confused on it, do you know much about it?
Oh dear.
yeah i've heard about it, it was impossible to escape yesterday, especially in the circles i'm in since Sakurai plays some of my favorite characters of all time. It's a trip.
So, the scandal is all about Takahiro Sakurai, best known for his role as Cloud Strife for ff7, but most recently known as Reigen in mp100, Giyu in Demon Slayer, and Geto in Jujutsu Kaisen. If you follow me for Gbf, he's also the voice of Lucifer/Lucilius/Lucio. If you follow me for DGM, he voiced Kanda in the first anime. I'd recommend checking his behind the voice actor's page because he has a very huge resume, and is probably one of the most legendary voice actor of this past decade or so.
So, of course, any scandal he would have been involved with would have caused a massive uproar, but he also managed to make it a batshit scandal to start with and managed to disappoint everyone in the process. (i'll just say that at least it's not a "Ren Ozawa" sized Scandal, so i'm afraid to say, with my standards, it's a "Could have been worse" scandal)
Sakurai has been a voice actor for maybe about two decades, and he has always been extremely secretive about his private life. There's nothing wrong with that, but therefore, none of us had any information regarding his relationship status. In 2018 or so, he did let it slip he had a wife in a radioshow but quickly covered himself trying so say he didn't mean it or something, and, due to respecting his privacy, fans have turned a blind eye and acted like he said nothing, so, it was not common knowledge.
A couple weeks ago though, in October 2022, Tabloids suddenly revealed that indeed, Sakurai has been married for a little over a decade, with another voice actress he had known for at least two decades.
This in itself, imo, is another can of worm i don't really see people discuss about how virulent Tabloids have been recently to uncover the private life of Seiyuu in the past few years (Shirai Yusuke had his marriage revealed a few weeks ago by tabloid after they stalked him, his wife and his toddler for weeks and ambushed Shirai in front of the childcare kindergarden to have him comment about it, and it's not to mention the many cheating scandals some seiyuu had been into that has been revealed in recent years).
But well. Whatever. Hardcore fans knew, it was an open secret for the people who were too deep into it. Despite the annoyance over the Tabloids, everyone congratulated Sakurai, who had to make a public statement about his marriage, which he didn't want to do.
After all, he wanted to keep it private right? it's good to have a private life and not share it with everyone. It's not like he had hidden motives with keeping his marriage a secret right?
......
*rubs temples* obviously it didn't end here.
Yesterday, as of the 26th October 2022, tabloid revealed that Takahiro Sakurai has been cheating on his wife for TEN YEARS.
Basically for the duration of his marriage he has been seeing the scriptwriter of his radioshow, who, on her end, had NO IDEA Sakurai was married since he was so secretive about it. For the course of those TEN YEARS Sakurai had made this woman believe that one day, he'll definitely marry her.
They started dating when she was in her late 20s which puts her now in her late 30s, which Japanese people are discussing a lot because it's considered the "prime age" for a woman to start out her family, and that most women intend to be in a stable relationship around that age. So one part of the scandal is about how Sakurai wasted some of the most important years in a woman's relationship's life by lying to her.
Like i said, this woman had no idea about all of it, and seems like the shock of the reveal was such that she had to be admitted to the hospital. I don't have more details about her well being.
There was confirmation that the sudden cancellation of Sakurai's radio show, which have been going on for 9 years, seems to be related to the turmoil the reveal of his marriage had caused in the studio considering his mistress worked with him here.
About one hour after the tabloids revealed the story, Sakurai confessed to it and admitted it all really happened, or so i’ve heard.
This is about where i decided to log off from socmed because everything became a little too overwhelming, if there had been new elements to this whole shitshow, i haven't seen them.
To the question "is Sakurai going to get consequences for it?", it's probably going to be no, considering his status in the industry and how massive IPs rest on his back. But it's possible he's going to lose some roles, especially future roles, with all of that.
There's also the rumor his own agency wasn't aware of it which is a really concerning one considering the director of the agency in question is his best friend. That can't be good.
But yeah, since it's his best friend it's a possibility he will be more protected by his agency than if the scandal had touched a lesser known seiyuu in a more controlling agency.
And besides while the industry tend to not completely blacklist voice actors following cheating scandals, it still does damage their career (Tatsuhisa Suzuki was caught in a cheating scandal last year and had to take a hiatus and lost a few roles since. Nobuhiko Okamoto also lost a lot of roles following his own cheating scandal.).
At the time we have no information coming from either women about how they’re feeling about all of this. Lots of thoughts their way as they have to deal with this whole drama blowing over in the public sphere and the betrayal of the whole situation.
I'll just add because i've seen some racist comments that rub me the wrong way: the fact a lot of seiyuu are being revealed to be cheaters in recent years while otherwise it hadn't happened much before doesn't mean "Japanese men all suck", to quote the most mild of these sentiments i've been seeing online. For one, bold to think American actors don't do it either for instance. Second: the fact there's been a lot scandals in recent years is probably much more linked to the fact there has been much more stalking from Tabloid recently. As disappointed as we all are because yeah that sucks, let's also acknowledge that the whole reason we know about it is really scummy.
So yeah. tldr, This story has everything. Legendary voice actor. Breach of privacy. Secret marriage. A broken hearted mistress. Ten years of betrayal. You name it.
Sunny Voyage 2023 + Dominion 2023 Match Predictions
Checking at my clock and right now it's about 3:30 in the morning meaning I have about two hours to do all these predictions so here we go with predictions for "Sunny Voyage 2023 in Shinjuku FACE" and "Dominion 6.4 in Osaka-Jo Hall".
Let's start off with "Sunny Voyage 2023 in Shinjuku FACE" which is headlined by an intense main event that could result in KO or too many kicks to count. Anyway, here we go with the predictions for "Sunny Voyage 2023 in Shinjuku FACE"
Opening Match: Taishi Ozawa vs. Manabu Soya Prediction: Too easy of a win here. Going with Manabu Soya for the win
Match #2: Shuji Kondo, Hiroki, and Hajime Ohara vs. Yoshinari Ogawa, Chris Ridgeway, and Daga Prediction: Based on all that's been going on lately, I'm sensing another win for Stinger most likely in dominant fashion.
Match #3: Stallion Rogers vs. Sean Legacy Prediction: Sean has so far impressed me. He's got that potential. Stallion Rogers is okay but have yet to sense the potential I've been sensing in Sean Legacy so going with Legacy for the win.
Match #4: Dante Leon and Junta Miyawaki vs. HAYATA and Eita Prediction: Intriguing match here as we saw something we didn't expect, HAYATA and Eita teaming up. This is their biggest test but with them facing Dante Leon, it'll be a tall order. Most new teams don't win their first match together but based on the build here, I could sense HAYATA and Eita winning. Either that or Dante shows us all he'll do whatever it takes to become GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion once again.
Match #5: Akitoshi Saito, Shuhei Taniguchi, Mohammed Yone, Naomichi Marufuji, and Takashi Sugiura vs. Yoshiki Inamura, Daiki Inaba, Masa Kitamiya, Kaito Kiyomiya, and Go Shiozaki. Prediction: Crazy match that is just thrown together. Barely a storyline or build going into this match. So my prediction is a wild a crazy one. Got two predictions here. Sugiura will get the win by pinning Inaba but will get attacked by Jake Lee afterwards. Or Kiyomiya will get the win by pinning Mohammed Yone sending a clear message to Kazuchika Okada who has problems with not just Kiyomiya but with those in his own company that are all around the same age as him (Ren Narita and Shota Umino)
Semi-Final Match: GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship: Atsushi Kotoge/Seiki Yoshioka (Challenger Team) vs. Tadasuke/YO-HEY (Champion Team) Prediction: I originally predicted the challengers to win but based on the fact NJPW did a retweet of this match alone and the fact that neither GLG or Just 5 Guys have been booked yet for "All Together Again" I expect the champions to retain and a surprise confrontation post-match.
Main Event Match: Special Singles Match: Katsuhiko Nakajima vs. Kenoh Prediction: This will be the third match of Nakajima/Kenoh I get to see live. First one was the N1 Victory 2021 finals where Nakajima won with a new move that has barely been seen since that victory. Last one was an intense 60-minute draw which turned out to be the first one I saw in any wrestling format since June 11, 2017 when Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada went the full distance. So...here, feel like and I've been saying this since the match has been made. Nakajima has to win. While with AXIZ, the two matches both him and Kenoh had ended with KO declaring Kenoh the winner. When he joined Kongo in August 2020, Nakajima unleashed a vicious side of himself and dominated against Kenoh to win their N1 Victory 2020 Block Match. Now that he's back with AXIZ, he has to prove that he made the right choice. If Nakajima cannot beat Kenoh as an AXIZ member, many people will be asking questions so in this main event, I'm going with Katsuhiko Nakajima for the win.
With the match predictions for "Sunny Voyage 2023 in Shinjuku FACE" done, it's now time to turn over to "Dominion 2023 in Osaka-Jo Hall" taking place this Sunday June 4, 2023.
Opening Match: Special Singles Match: Lance Archer vs. Will Ospreay Prediction: Winner here will get a shot at the IWGP United States Championship most likely at "The Forbidden Door". And with the way things are going, I see Will Ospreay emerging victorious but at what cost remains to be seen.
Match #2: Tetsuya Naito, Shingo Takagi, BUSHI, and Titan vs. Taichi, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, DOUKI, and Taka Michinoku Prediction: As we await the status of a possible new LIJ member in Yota Tsuji, 4 of the 5 current LIJ members face 4 of the 5 Just 5 Guys members and to me, this one is too easy. I see a LIJ win with Tetsuya Naito most likely pinning Taka Michinoku
Match #3: IWGP Junior Tag Team Championship: Francesco Akira/TJP (Challenger Team) vs. Kevin Knight/KUSHIDA (Champion Team) Prediction: I'm sensing this to be a big night for the United Empire so going with new champions in Catch 2/2.
Match #4: NJPW World TV Championship: Jeff Cobb (Challenger) vs. Zac Sabre Jr. (Champion) Prediction: Last match, these two went the full distance (15 minutes) so there has to be a winner here within that 15-minute frame. Like I said, sensing a big night for the United Empire so...going with Jeff Cobb for the win here.
Match #5: Match to determine the 99th IWGP Tag Team Champions and the 4th NJPW Strong Tag Team Champions: Great O-Khan and Aaron Henare vs. EVIL and Yujiro Takahashi vs. Hirooki Goto and YOSHI-HASHI Prediction: Very hard one to predict. Originally had predict Aussie Open to retain but when they pulled out, went with Bishamon but with YOSHI-HASHI's recent comments, have this wild prediction. Bishamon will win only if Hirooki Goto gets the winning pin. Other than that, United Empire will complete the sweep and leave Osaka with gold all over.
Match #6: NEVER Openweight Championship Match: El Phantasmo (Challenger) vs. David Finlay (Champion) Prediction: This match alone may reach Nakajima/Kenoh levels or something darker. Though I'll be rooting for El Phantasmo, I sadly see David Finlay retaining and how he retains could be worse than how he beat Tama Tonga for the title at "Wrestling Dontaku 2023"
Match #8: NEVER 6-man Tag Team Championship: Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Shota Umino (Challenger Team) vs. Kazuchika Okada, Tomohiro Ishii, and Hiroshi Tanahashi (Champion Team) Prediction: Kazuchika Okada can easily handle Kaito Kiyomiya (who's looking to avenge his loss on June 9th in Ryogoku). Okada can handle Ren Narita easily. But...when it comes to Shota Umino. I said this on social media this past weekend and saying it here again...everytime Okada is under the impression that he can handle Shota Umino easily, seems like Umino is one or two steps ahead of him and I feel like that 6-man tag in Long Beach, CA changed Umino to the man we're seeing now. So...my prediction for this match is we're getting new champions. BCC going to take the 6-man titles hostage.
Semi-Main Event: IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship: Master Wato (Challenger/BOSJ 30 Winner) vs. Hiromu Takahashi (Champion) Prediction: A hard one to predict but right now going with Master Wato for the win. It's his hometown and most times, the hometown hero always wins.
Main Event: IWGP World Heavyweight Championship: Yota Tsuji (Challenger) vs. SANADA (Champion) Prediction: Hardest title match to predict in a long time even if this will be Tsuji's first match back from excursion. My prediction on this main event will shock you. I'm going with the time-limit draw. We'll most likely see our first 60-minute draw in 6 years.
So...there you have it. My predictions for today's "Sunny Voyage 2023 in Shinjuku FACE" which starts about a hour from now (5:30 AM Eastern) and my predictions for Sunday's "Dominion 6.4 in Osaka-Jo Hall".

warnings :: mentions of rape, suicide, domestic abuse, abortion, overall just a man being shitty. please proceed with caution.
i had planned to sleep early tonight to start the remaining requests tomorrow but i came across this on my facebook and i cant keep quiet.
i will not be putting in any effort to make this as aesthetic as my previous post as this is urgent and needs to be brought to light.
to get straight to the point, an issue regarding kazunari's voice actor ren ozawa and his now ex girlfriend has come to light.
in this article, ozawa's girlfriend had accused him of beating her into abortion. originally she had written a suicide letter and planned to hang herself but never got to due to a friend saving her. an update by the seiyuu cafe on facebook has been posted saying that his agency has cut ties with him after admitting to his faults.
now, as i say this, i beg of you all who are fans of a3 and kazunari to not hate on kazunari himself as, despite being only a 2d character, he does not deserve the hate. kazunari would not do this.
i ask of you all to stop supporting ren ozawa, to stop sending him love because apparently, he's not deserving of any. i also ask of you all to hope the best for his ex girlfriend and wish for her healing.
it breaks my heart that he's done something so disgusting as he's never looked like the type to do so, but i guess looks can really be deceiving. i hope cybird and liber cast someone else as kazu's voice actor, someone more deserving and someone morally better.
please do reblog this, or anything to spread the word. this isn't something to be taken lightly.
if anyone wants the full story, here's a link to a more-or-less twitter translation on the matter.
So is this confirmation we are never getting a Lucifer unit? Rip
HELP
yeah i've seen people talk about it and, it's, yeah, not impossible.
but at the same time GBF so far had no problem hiring cheaters ways after their scandals. I mean. The two cheating seiyuu i mentioned in the post? literally Aglovale and Lamorak voice actor.
Tatsuhisa Suzuki, Aglovale's VA, was caught cheating on a high profile star, he took a hiatus to lay low, and he came back. GBF since then has hired him again for the latest gbf event + the new unit
Nobuhiko Okamoto is an interesting one to bring up bc i'm pretty sure his cheating scandal happened before he was even casted as Lamorak, but gbf had already casted him as Gilbert. Compared to Tatsuhisa, it's not like they had to hire him back because he was playing a beloved character, they just didn't care.
Sakurai's scandal is really scandalous and it really depends just how badly it's going with his agency i think, because at the same time, he's really high profile. If he keeps low profile for like, a year, reasonably speaking, nothing is stopping him to make a come back.
That being said, out of all the seiyuu scandals i've seen (that aren't the Ren Ozawa scandal), it's the first time i see the debate about recasting the voice actor being that heated in the Japanese fandom.
even with Tatsuhisa i saw a few people talk about recasting him but it was nothing really serious, but here, the term "seiyuu replacement" was literally trending on Japanese twitter. Seems like people are pretty torn between "yeah cheating is bad but he doesn't deserve to lose his career for it" and "yeah but TEN YEARS?"
So it's really hard to see where this whole thing could be going. I'd be inclined to think that it's likely if Sakurai keeps a low profile gbf will have no problem hiring him again in a year or two and, who knows then.
but the situation is a little above any classic cheating scandal, includes a lot of people and a lot of time to make up for, so it's also possible Sakurai's career will never recover from it.
So genuinely, i don't know man. Time will tell.
Tho i think if they really want to keep milking the angel saga and they don't want to cast Sakurai back they might as well just recast him. I don't see it stopping them.
My favorite pair in the Valentines étude segment during the REAL⇔FAKE special event “Cheers, Big Ears!” Day 2 ♥️ Feel free to correct any mistakes I made~
(btw I can’t find it anywhere but étude in acting means doing improv in pairs, if I’m not mistaken)
