Ember, thanks for choosing Nero. I don't really talk about him enough, or, well, I rarely ever do talk about him at all sadly, and this injustice has to be eliminated! I adore the nephew/son, and he is a precious punk boi who I should appreciate more.

favourite thing about them

ONE-ARMED NERO. I love Nero for many things, but his time as a wounded/disabled is my favourite period of him for real. Boi was truly physically Hurt for the, probably, second only time in his life and he didn't stop for a second when the situation called for all hands on deck. One-Armed Nero literally stared down a demon king that has killed Dante before his eyes, and went 'I can take him'.

Of course, part of it was pure spite, sparda losers are known to be very good at using it as fuel, but also, this takes some fucking Guts and I really respect him for that.

Also the one-handed reload animation. I love many things about DMC5, but one-handed Nero reload animation might be the most underappreciated thing in this fandom, in my opinion.

the fact that he got his arm to regrow. I genuinely wish he didn't. Being disabled didn't slow the boi down even for a second, he was even able to fight properly before Nico invented Breakers, Breakers themselves are very creative tools to help Nero be more capable in a fight, plus he even got two additional gorgeous dt wingclaws!

Just imagine if Nero didn't regrow his arm back:

The twins will have a constant visual reminder how close they were to losing everything they love, that despite how unimaginably bad it had gotten in dmc1 - dmc5 story was much Worse.

Nero himself would remain the same way he was. He could use with wingclaws to help with tasks if he really needs two hands, but he also adapted to living with only one hand. Maybe he could use the wingclaws to wield Red Queen and shoot at the same time.

I know some people enjoy the fantasy of a disabled character finding a 'cure' for their disability, but I am not one of those. I want to see characters suffer, get support from their family and then heal to live on with what they go through.

NeroKiri. This is the rare case when I'm mostly happy we don't see much more of a canon Kyrie, cause I do not trust Capcom with any female characters at all, and I doubly so don't trust them with female characters from DMC specifically. So yeah, I'm glad here our fandom hands are free to make up our own version of Kyrie and her relationship with Nero. I do believe Kyrie to be a very capable and strong woman in her own right, otherwise Nero wouldn't have fallen for her.

sorry not sorry for this, but I heavily dislike the common fandom interpretation of the orphans he and Kyrie foster. Nero is a mature boi for sure, but not mature enough to be fostering children. It works for me if the fostering is a temporary solution, then he and Kyrie are more or less like camp counsellors or older siblings role, but I don't like the situation remaining that way forever. Don't get me wrong, I adore found families, it just seems to me like Nero is not mature enough to be raising children, half his age ones at that. At least, nothing I have seen in canon suggests he is mature enough for this.

What do you think would happen if rottmnt (and both the Caseys) met Dante, Vergil, and Nero?

(Assuming Cassandra knows Casey is her future son, I just picture her being like, "Hey, wanna see a cool thing I made?" and then grabbing Casey and holding him up like Simba in the Lion King, being all like, "LOOK AT MY AWESOME SON!! GAZE upon his MAGNIFICENCE!"

Casey, being held up and hiding his embarrassed face behind his hockey mask, awkwardly waving: "Hi." [as an aside to Cassandra] "Mom, please put me down, this is really embarrassing.")

I already preach that Leo would be a DMC fan and would idolize DMC3 Dante, so meeting one of his favorite characters would probably send him into fanboy mode.

Overall I think they'd be shocked to meet people that are more built different™ than they are and I don't think the Sparda's would find the situation that weird considering what they've seen and done. The real kicker would be the boys seeing how insane the family dynamics are between those three, like there's the disaster twins and then there's THE disaster twins. Like what do you mean you tried to kill each other multiple times??? What do you mean y'all stab each other often??? What do you mean you two first met and filled each others with stab wounds AND bullet holes???

They'd also all try to fight Dante cause like cmon guys he may have demon powers but there's four of us plus the Casey's AND we have ninpo (they get their asses handed to them and styled on, Nero just sits and watches while Vergil is sitting and reading).

Devil May Cry OC Week: Mercenaries (2/4) Royalguard and Swordmaster

What is known of the OCs so far (subject to change)

Agent Marcella Aguilar [Royalguard]

6 ft 2 in (188 cm)

Half human (Latina on her father’s side) and half demon (mother’s side)

Raised by her single father who still lives. Mother does not comprehend human tendencies, is an absent parent as she wanders the world collecting information.

Mother was a fierce fighter under the rule of Mundus. She was one of the first to be approached by Sparda concerning his rebellion. Agrees to join as she does not particularly care for humanity, but humanity’s creations. 

Marcella has mommy issues

Fears abandonment so she keeps to herself. Has trust issues. Don’t let the confident energy fool you. Natural leader because she’s naturally calm and focused. 

As this takes place in canon DMC timeline, none of the four have ever met the Sparda family nor have lived near Red Grave City, but some know of it. 

Marcella shoulders the responsibility of protecting humanity more out of moral obligation than genuine concern. Hides the demon side of her from her partner and crush so as to not lose her, but is otherwise proud of devil trigger form. 

Close combat fighter. Is not ideal for most so she references humans like Lady to defend against any suspicion. Her devil trigger form is where she has the most fun reenacting kaiju scenes from Pacific Rim.

Became a mercenary because it aligns with her ideals, plus the pay from [Company name TBA] isn’t bad. Sends what she can to help her father even though he’s doing just fine. 

He is a Pulitzer Prize winner and well-known author of several war novels covering his own personal experience as an amputee with PTSD. He holds all of the money received by Marcella so he could return it when she comes home much to her displeasure. 

Loves his daughter so much. Is incredibly proud of her. Will show off her baby pictures with immense pride.  

Marcella likes being tall. She loves brushing her hair after a long day but does not get how it can look silky when it’s loose but the ends are frayed in her classic braids (she’s humming bird themed ( Huitzilopochtli)).  

Is the cool, quiet, loner type but enjoys hanging out with loud and energetic people. Enjoys getting dirty but if she does not have access to a shower right after she will throw hands. Is a hopeless romantic. Asexual. 

Agent Suraya ??? [Swordmaster]

5 ft 5 in (168 cm)

100% human. Mother is from Georgia (the country) and her father is from the U.S. Both are alive.

Is the middle child. Suraya’s older sister and her sister’s wife own a successful salon. Their younger brother is 16, likes to shade Suraya for her interest in K-Pop. 

Suraya’s parents signed her and her siblings up for Tae Kwon Do classes only for her to end up as the only one out of the 3 to love martial arts. 

Then bounced to karate. Once she started getting into shonen anime she also fell in love with sword users (Still believes the sheathing and unsheathing of a katana is the coolest thing).

Started off with fencing, and when she felt it wasn’t enough she practiced kendo, then gatka. 

Where Marcella focuses on taking out the threat (demons), Suraya prioritizes human lives. She does not take the lives of any human. This is also why she took up using a shield alongside her specialized sword. 

Suraya’s parents, happy that their daughter is a prodigy, do not like that she is a part of such a high-risk career, and often call out of concern/in hopes of changing her mind. Suraya believes that she is doing the right thing so their pleas don’t work. 

Is hesitant to even bring up accomplishments because she knows her parents will try to convince her that what she is doing is dangerous. Why can’t they just say that they’re proud of her?

The neighborhood she grew up in fell under siege of a large demonic portal. Luckily, she and her family were able to escape, but she hated feeling of helplessness. 

Initially volunteered to get rid of demons but likes receiving income so she now works with [Company name TBA] where she met Marcella.

Whatever money she makes she saves it just in case. Yearns to live in a cottage with a nice garden. 

Suraya is confident in her swordsmanship. Can be rather reckless and impulsive, but her skills are often more than enough to get the job done. 

If she was a playable character, she would collect various swords throughout the story with a multitude of fighting styles. 

Is optimistic and full of energy. Out of the four demon-hunters, she makes friends the easiest. 

Is kinda maybe sort of oblivious to people liking her romantically. You’d figure that a woman that watches novelas should be aware of at least a few signs. 

Likes playing with make up. Marcella has a hard time saying no to her. 

Immediately takes the role of leader in group work, though she gets impatient and wants to do things herself soon after.  

Does have feelings for her partner but for the longest time believes those feelings are of friendship.

What I think about Devil May Cry 4

Devil May Cry is known as one of the best hack and slash games around, with its latest release taking the crown as the best hack and slash game ever. This post would be about DMC5, but there’s so much to do in that game that I don’t think I could even speak about it all, especially with it’s Special Edition coming out soon. So, I decided to talk about the game before it.

I’m gonna start with the fact that this is the first Devil May Cry where you don’t play as Dante (at least until halfway through the game). Instead, you play as Nero, the guy you see in the picture above. Nero’s gameplay style is very different from Dante’s, with a couple similarities. The biggest difference is that there are no style switches, and Nero only has one weapon and one gun. For those who don’t know, the absolute best part about playing as Dante is his arsenal; he ALWAYS has a ton of weapons that you can use to do the hokey pokey all over your enemies. You play as Dante for style, to look cool. Dante moves fast and you have to use all four of his styles and all of his weapons to be good with him. I’ll explain Dante’s kit in this game in a minute, but right now we’re on Nero. Nero only uses his sword, the Red Queen, and his magnum, the Blue rose. He’s a bit slower than Dante, and a whole lot more angry, which is consistent with his character because Nero is a very passionate, hotheaded person. Also he’s like 16-17 in DMC4, so it could be those teenage hormones. 

Now, here’s the biggest difference between Dante and Nero.

Now, if you’d kindly look at the top left of this shitty image I pulled off of google since I was too lazy to pull a pic from my own gameplay, you can see a circular gauge next to the green health bar. That would be Nero’s Exceed Meter. The special thing about Nero’s Red Queen is that it’s like... a motorcycle in a sword. The damn thing has an engine, it has a throttle on the handle and he revs it to make it heat up. I can’t even write all that without it sounding stupid and absurd but yeah, it’s real and it works. You can charge that meter up, and if i remember correctly you can swing the sword three times before running out, which is why if you press L2 or LT at the right time, you have a chance to fill up either one slot of Exceed or the entire bar, to continue your flaming onslaught. 

Next is the blue rose, which doesn’t have much but it works for Nero’s kit. It has charge shot, which is self explanatory, and it has Color Up. With Color Up, Nero loads the Blue Rose with explosive rounds, which you can layer on top of charge shot too. 

Nero has mostly the same abilities as Dante, with the only real difference being Table Topper. Table Topper allows you to dash around your enemy if you side roll at the perfect moment. The last thing in Nero’s arsenal for this game is his Devil Bringer. If you look at the picture above again, you will see a blue light coming from Nero, and if you look at the first picture I used, you’re obviously gonna notice his weird ass arm. I don’t know why he has this thing but its another big part of his kit. When an enemy staggers, you can grab them with this arm to play an animation that’s pretty cool. And when I say that you can do this move on every enemy, I mean every enemy. The coolest part is the game doesn’t say if you can or not, it just tells you what it does and you have to figure it out on your own. Using the Devil Bringer on bosses is probably the best part because it does massive damage, and when you do it with Devil Trigger activated it plays a much more aggressive animation. My favorite is when Nero uses Devil Trigger and triple suplexes an enemy. It’s so over the top for no reason and I love it.

Now, I would speak about Dante’s play style in this game but I literally remember nothing about it. I can say that it wasn’t that different from usual Dante. He obviously has new weapons but I don’t remember them that much. I’ve been replaying the game so when I get to that point maybe I’ll make a post about it. 

Now I’m gonna talk about the bad parts of the game. Because it is very flawed and dated, and playing through it hurts a little. This game takes place on the island of Fortuna, inhabited by a people who worship the Dark Knight Sparda(Dante’s father) like a God. Nero is the son of Vergil, Dante’s brother, and was born here. This religion (named the order) had some weird plot to take over the world with a giant statue that they called the Savior ( I think it was supposed to look like Sparda), and to do this they needed demon energy, so they made these big hell gates. Demons started pouring out and that somehow affected this islands climate?

And it’s a noticeable difference. Here’s an example. 

This is Fortuna Castle. This is a big castle that you go through twice (once as Nero and once as Dante) and the main climate in this area is snowy and very mountain like. On the backside of this castle is a bridge that goes into a waterfall that has a tunnel behind it, and once you go through this tunnel, you see this. 

An entire fucking forest. No, it’s more of a jungle and the worst part of the game. This game is full of dumb old 2000′s styled platformer bullshit that is tedious, annoying, and the reason I’m still taking a break from my second playthrough of this game. In a game that isn’t a platformer, it sure has a lot of annoying jumping stuff in it. Plus, this area introduces one of the worst enemies in the game. 

This is the Chimera Seed. It has no attack patterns that are easily recognizable, and even when it isn’t attacking trying to hit it only damages you. I have vivid memory of brute forcing my way through these enemies because I didn’t want to annoy myself actually fighting them. 

And this is Mephisto. A floating enemy, that goes through fucking walls. You can’t hit them until that black shroud is gone, and that’s also difficult to get off. This game has so many annoying enemies, it’s the worst to play through. Blitz was no where near as bad as Mephisto was.

This was the best DMC game until DMC5 came out, and it wasn’t that good anyways. But now that DMC5 came out, this games problems are emphasized greatly. In my opinion, this game is a 6/10. It’s good but flawed.

2: Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project

Oh boy! I have so much I’m excited to write about but so many projects to work on right now...

For instance, as much as I’m having fun in “Sons of Fortune” with the current event of Kassy and Dante getting stuck at a hotel on the mainland, I’m actually more excited for something in a time-skip right now. Let’s just say I’m excited to introduce Lady!

And for “Reignite” I’m definitely excited to write the awkward “family reunion” where Nero (and maybe Nico) has to exasperatingly be the voice of reason in the family.

But, currently, I am trying my damndest to write all of my short stories for DMC Week. And I don’t want to share what I’m excited for on that because spoilers~

18: Do any of your stories have alternative versions? (plotlines that you abandoned, AUs of your own work, different characterisations?) Tell us about them.

Oh. My. God.

I am so deep in the “multiverse hole” like you wouldn’t believe.

Technically, “Sons of Fortune” is an AU to my “Reignite.” I wrote “Reignite” by trying to fit it into canon much as possible. And then I... drew a picture of Dante and Vergil in Holy Knight inspired uniform designs and immediately wanted to write that story. Even though I will more often than not want to write happy stories, sometimes I just want to write *happier* stories. And all the mush and fluff that can come from that setting just felt too good to not write!

And then there’s “Hierarchy of Kings” which is, again, AU of my own work. But that was actually stemmed from a bit of “what I thought I was doing for Reignite.” I had a lot of trouble deciding what the solid backstory for the OCs were going to be, so “Hierarchy” is a different interpretation of Roy’s family setup and circumstances. But, more than that, I just had a hankering for fluff between Vergil and a male OC... however that’s supposed to work, because Roy isn’t necessarily a very soft character. (I guess I’m kinda more exploring how a super prideful person with a broken history interacts with another super prideful person with a well adjusted life...)

And, and... and then there was the “Blessings” AU which was indulgent “what if Dante actually gets to have a family during the time Vergil was gone?” Pure indulgence for me to write; at some point I do want to go more in depth on how his life with his family in that setting. (Dante of “Fortune” is quite different from a Dante that had to live as an orphan.)

But, as for things I didn’t write or haven’t written yet?

Anyone want an AU where Vergil gets pick up off the streets by Kassy’s mom and brought back to live with her family? I’m quite literally wanting to write this AU to switch up the pairings. If Vergil grew up with Kassy’s family, he would have also been taught some different ways of fighting... and yes this is totally an excuse to have him outfitted more like a traditional assassin. I don’t know why I’m so interested in the idea of Nero being Dante’s kid and Snow being Vergil’s, plus the changing of which girl goes to which guy, but it’s a fun thought!

Some said his silver hair came from none other than the ancient hero Sparda, while others limited their concerns to whether or not he truly pioneered Devil Hunting or whether  he actually ever did any work, what with his trademark red leather coat always looking so spiffy.

Dante was even rumored to have defeated the King of the Underworld himself, although of course nobody really believed that.

“A mercenary obsessed by his own appearance? This weather obviously means the end of the world.”

His traditional bluster had been replaced by an understated sobriety.

His silver hair matched the storybook picture of Sparda himself.

“I wan’t in the mood for a bath, but what the hell. I bet I look dashing with this dripping everywhere. Tell me the truth. Do you think I’m hot?”

“Who wouldn’t?”

“Think of me as setting an example for all the other demons raised in the stink of fine women and good booze”.

Dante was a realist.

Dante had the legendary warrior’s power and confidence, but this was offset with an unbecoming awkwardness.

She admired his tenacity and his ability to remain cool (...)

Dante had an undeniable charisma. Nobody knew why Sparda had taken up arms against the King of the Underworld. Maybe the answer lay hidden within Dante.

Sometimes it’s hard to come up with a pithy one-liner during battle, he reflected. It seem so easy in the movies.

Physical injuries rarely impacted Dante’s sarcasm. It had a power source all its own.

To the world at large, he was just a damned good mercenary with a colorfully embroidered story.

As some of y’all know I also run Devil May Camera. I’m totally cool with my pictures being used for making icons for RP use cause I love this community. Plus icons are like, tiny, so it hardly feels like reposting to me. Go ham with what’s already posted there, friends.

Specially tho:

I’m planning to do a MASSIVE set of icon-centric screenshots. They will be posted on a new special DMC RPC resource blog when sets are ready.

Originally I was just gonna put them on Devil May Camera, but talking with @yamatodad we’ve decided to make a resource hub for the DMC rpc. I’ll tackle more of the DMC5 icons while she tackles older game’s icons! More on that closer to the time when stuff is ready haha.

While I’ve got a TON of ideas on where to start for these sets, I also want to hear form y’all what you’d find useful. We’ve all have had that annoying time we haven’t had a relevant icon for the post’s emotion or whatnot. And screw hunting one down at that moment so you just make do, right?

Please call me Gil :) I have posted here a while ago and was very happy with the responses I received from various individuals. I do share a good role-play with the said partners…. but it has been some time since I did anything fandom related. Especially since I am a total geek for video-games. Now I am craving for another kind of RP, a darker one… with less boundaries and more grit. Something from the supernatural side. It’ll be a hell of a good time! 

I am currently looking for someone who is willing to do a Devil May Cry inspired RP with me! (But if that doesn’t necessarily suit your fancy, I am also open to do a Harry Potter RP - either next generation or before the events of HP) My mind has become restless with the idea that has been haunting me recently - a Roleplay involving Devilish creatures, Demons, Demon Hunters as well as the concept of Heaven and Hell. And no I don’t mean in a biblical sense… more in a mythological kind of sense. After I’ve played the newest release of DMC 5, I am once again fully hyped for it and hope to find my soulmate. (well on rp’er terms that is) 
I am also willing to incorporate crossovers as well! I will make a short list down below what I am willing to do! Before we move on, I’ll give you the same ol’ description of what you should consider before messaging me :)   If you reach out to me, please be sure not to ghost me after the first few messages before we even get to the roleplay itself. Yes, I’ve had many instances where my partners had to go off the grid because life gets in the way, etc. I understand that - but just disappearing without getting to the juicy bits is just a waste. Don’t write to me without a proper thread or a simple one-liner. Short and lacklustre messages will also be ignored, sorry :( I am currently searching for a literate, mature (preferably 20+ partner) writer with a vast, creative mindset willing to push some boundaries. Someone who is not afraid delving into darker themes, or come up with new fresh ideas for a fantasy plot. Someone who is willing to commit to a long-term roleplay. Are you that someone to join the I’ll swing you a few facts about me. Who am I? I am a 20+ female, living in Europe and currently studying at a university which is fairly time consuming. Good brainstorming is key. Once we get to know each other, I would love to do a bit of strategizing, erecting a system for our world as well as gathering ideas we can utilize for the story. 
Here’s a detailed description of my style and boundaries that I have for a potential RP.

How I write:

I am a multi-paragraph sort of writer, which means that frequently, my writing will exceed at least 500 words, and upward of 1000+ words. I love detail in description, and I am actively seeking someone of the same infamy. Generally, I tend to write in the 3rd person. But it can change based on the situation. My partner should have a basic grasp on grammar, punctuation and somewhat of an interest in erudite writing.  

The genres I am into:

I am versatile when it comes to genres and settings that I like to focus on. Supernatural is my bread and butter, especially urban and gothic fantasy, but also very much like mythological stories and lore. I am not opposed to tapping into science fiction, action, romance, crime, action or thriller genres, though my most favourite is a combination of both fantasy, action, drama and a bit of sci-fi. For the roleplay I would like to take a lot of elements from Lovecraftian lore and even a little bit of Constantine. I love to mesh multiple genres together to create something completely new and fun. Yes, I know this is a fandom role-play, but that doesn’t mean we’re bound to this hard-set rules. Romance: I openly play and accept characters of both genders, preferable m x f pairings, but I am open to m x m and f x f relationships as well. I have more experience with m x f relationships, so I might excel in this category more than I would do with the others. I do not fade to black - instead I encourage erotism and tastefully written romance scenes. The passion must be felt, even if its just an intelligent description of someone’s stream of thought. I am double friendly and prefer it over a single pairing! OOC:


OOC-chat friendly! Trust me, I won’t hold it against you if you tend to ramble outside of the roleplay. I love meeting new people and making potential friends. Plus it strengthens the relationship as well as the roleplay. Communication is key! If there is something that bothers you, or if you think you are left out in some way (be it a mistake on my part or we’re both at fault here), don’t be scared to let me know. Really, it won’t be taken personally - since I know that we all tend to make mistakes every once in a while. It doesn’t bother me to re-write a scene to fit the narrative in a better way and so on. We can always exchange our opinions and see what would benefit the story most. I'll also inform you if there are things that irk me. Characters are the centre of attention: Faceclaims, GIFs, drawings, mood boards or just a plain physical description is absolutely welcome / sufficient. I am not someone who necessarily requires a face claim for a character in order ‘to get the picture’. There are many instances where I could not find a suiting match for my character’s definition, so I resorted to drawing them myself or leaving it with a simple description. Characters should have flaws - that is a no brainer obviously, because its what makes them most interesting and compelling to read. I think we’re also far past the Mary Sue and Gary Stu issue, so I am certain that anyone who messages me, is capable of forging great characters. World building & plotting: An active roleplayer is wanted in this category, without a doubt. I love to build but I tend to lose interest real quick when I get the feeling I’m the only one who puts effort into it. Too often I find people shying away from it in this regard. If I feel that I’m the only one carrying the weight of the world-building part, I will end the roleplay with immediate effect. Be bold with your ideas! A bird cannot fly with only one wing, no? Content: I find writing erotic, dramatic or action packed scenes very enjoyable. I don’t hinder myself when certain subjects are mentioned that may be uncomfortable for the general public. But then again, as a reminder, a roleplay is not reality but fiction. For example situations that heavily imply and involve brutality, mayhem, psychological and physical torture are things that don’t really bother me in a sense, because again, it is fiction. Characters should be fully fleshed out, even the not so pretty parts of one’s personality and actions. Limits: I don’t do necrophilia, pedophilia & and any sort of underage pairings as well as bestiality, vore, scat, toilet play, furries or other bizarre fetishes. What I’m also not particularly fond of are oneliners, text-talk ‘grammar’, or emails with the subject: ‘Hey wanna rp?’ or ‘RP?’. I also note that my partners must be around 20 years or older, I will accept no younger partners, sorry. The last thing I tend to avoid like the plague are slice of life roleplays, because lets face it, our own lives are already a slice of life.

Insincere Sensibilities

I touched upon this a few days ago when i ranted about Outrage and Cancel Culture but, the current Sentai Filmworks purge over at Crunchyroll, i feel like i need to address this sh*t directly. I think that’s over licensing issues but it’s just a drop in the bucket with all of the other purges and alterations being made, all over the place. American censorship of international media is f*cking ridiculous. It is and i can’t stand it. I get that, for a lot of the youngsters out here, especially the ones that are of that Social Justice disposition, certain things, especially out of Japan, can be misconstrued, misunderstood, or even seen as offensive. The thing is, though, mind your f*cking business. Not everyone is outraged by the same sh*t you are. If it’s media to be consumed, just don’t consume it. Not everyone wants to fit in your very narrow worldview of assumed offense and righteous indignation. You look like a clown doing that sh*t. The motherf*cker who sh*ts in the pool, forcing everyone to leave. You’re the no-fun police. Chill the f*ck out, man, and keep your negativity to yourself. F*ck off with your soft ass sensibilities. Instead of harassing a Japanese artist, who lives in Japan, and is actually part of that culture, maybe get some f*cking context first? Maybe understand that, where that person is from, the sh*t they draw is fine and probably popular? Maybe don’t insist upon applying your narrow, prudish, American "values” to a country that, in so many ways, resembles nothing that you’d recognize as everyday life? Like, Amazon removed the Grimgar books. What the f*ck was wrong with Grimgar?? Interestingly enough, you can still watch the show on Prime. That hypocrisy is going to be a running theme, just letting you know ahead of time.

Not everyone who likes lolis wants to f*ck kids. Not everyone who likes guro wants to rape then eat corpses. Not everyone who likes isekai want’s a slave harem or is some weenie neckbeard that lacks all of the confidence. It’s nuts to me that this wave of pearl clutching is so selective. Like, Amazon removed all the No Game No Life novels, among others, because of “questionable content”. A cursory search reveals that you can still buy Catcher in the Rye on the site; A book about a teenage sociopath, who sells drugs and tries to f*cks prostitutes. Dude is sixteen. Shouldn’t this be removed, too? Isn’t this offensive material as well by these new rules? It’s required f*cking reading in high schools across the nation! F*cking A Clockwork Orange is still available, both the book and the film. Why? That sh*t is literally a murder-rape rampage. Dude rapes two ten-year-olds in that sh*t! It’s also another book i read in high school just to see if it was as bad as everyone says. The book is, yes. The film? Not so much. Also, and this is probably the most pertinent of my unabashed hypocrisy on display, f*cking Lolita is still available on Amazon! Both films, hardcover, soft cover, and even audio book if you’re too lazy to read for yourself. Lolita is quite literally, the inspiration for the loli genre that everyone seems to be completely out of their minds about now. Loli is short FOR Lolita. That’s a thing. You can imagine the content therein so why is THAT book okay but not No Game No Life? The Lolita audio book is f*cking free with an Audible trial! Free! But go off about Shiro, though.

This sh*t is frustrating to me because it feels like a targeted attack on Japanese media and ONLY Japanese media. I got Senators getting on TV, talking about how Dragon Ball Z is degenerate trash, even though it’s been on US television for almost three decades. Sony is prematurely censoring games like Sengan Kagura and Devil May Cry V, but Abby gets a whole ass, grunt filled, bro down, f*ckfest in The Last of Us II. That sh*t was so jarring and hilariously gross to see, it became a straight up meme. Her entire peck-a-titty was completely exposed, nips and all. Her animalistic barking and grimaced face, were so brazenly displayed. Graphically. Gratuitously. Uncomfortably. That sh*t look painful. That’s what sex is like in real life, right? That interpretation is grounded and not sexualized at all, right. Sex can’t be sexualized anymore. No joy or fun in the f*ck. It has to mechanical and the most unappealing sh*t, ever, or you’ll be objectifying women or some sh*t. Okay. Stunning and brave, I'm sure, but why? Why the f*ck was that necessary other than to wag a finger at your player base? Here’s some f*cking in your game, we know you like it, but don’t like that way. That way is wrong. Women are not cum-dumpsters. They are to be respected and never subject to your pitiable sense of passion or attractiveness. They can be inconvenienced by sex, too! That’s what i thought, at least, as i watched this aggressively icky display happen on my television for a miserable amount of timen. It’s this way or no way. I get a lens flare on the butt of a beauty like Lady from DMC, but I'm forced to see Abby’s whole body tense as whatshisname goes in raw with no lube? For real?

There’s just so much stupid surrounding the media i love lately, you know? Let’s go after Shield Hero because I'm offended that Raphtalia is a child slave. Because i only watched three episodes and completely ignored the heartwarming relationship that developed between Naofumi and the adult Raphtalia. Because Raphtalia grew the f*ck up. She only appeared that young, for that long, because Naofumi's trauma wouldn’t allow him to see her as an adult. I’m not saying don’t feel a certain way about whatever. Let’s get the pitchforks and torches because Scarlett Johansson is portraying a Japanese cyborg, even though the Japanese don’t care. They’re wrong for being indifferent to the racial injustice perpetrated by this Hollywood production! Even though the character of Batou IS canonically of Japanese descent, not a full cyborg so his body is organic with certain cybernetic enhancements, and still got portrayed by a white dude. Yeah, that’s fine. Ignore the whitewashing of literally every other Japanese or ethnic character in this movie, and focus on the one what is literally a brain in a mechanical shell. Outrage! Did I want to see a Japanese actor in that role? Sure. I think Rinko Kukichi was a perfect fit for Major Motoko Kusanagi. However, the Japanese people don't care so I had to let my bias go, too. If the director of the original anime film gives his blessing, who the f*ck are we to be so pissed off about it? Plus, the Major in this version of the picture is named Mira or some sh*t. She not even MY Major and I can separate the two. Apparently, I am in the minority on that one.

My favorite character in the Monogatari series is Shinobu. She’s a loli vampire that’s nearly six centuries old but looks to be about twelve in real time. Shinobu starts as a ravishing, adult beauty named Kissshot. Through a series of events, her power was sapped and, in order to save her life, she was left in her juvenile form. She later reclaims her voluptuous, mature, appearance and carries on for the rest of the series as such, but she was Shinobu, not Kissshot, when i fell in love with her. I do adore both versions of that character; Her haughty, too-old-for-her-looks, pre-teen self and the reserved, stoic, haunting beauty of her true form. That said, even as a loli vampire, Shinobu is still pretty tame. If Shinobu is worth a Change.org petition, what about Claudia from Interview with the Vampire? Claudia is FAR more problematic. She is Lolita on steroids. Claudia is nine when she was turned and was killed sixty-five years later. It is stated, in detail, she wanted to f*ck. Badly. But she couldn’t because, you know, the whole nine-year-old body and everything. That was actually a pretty big thing with Claudia’s character, that sexual frustration. Never mind the, you know, murderous rage and delight in cruelty, you know? Claudia is fine, with all of her bloody, murderous, psychopathy and manipulative, over sexual, personality proudly displayed, but Shinobu is an issue because... why again?

Cats are apologizing for violent abusers because they’re pretty women, and you HAVE to believe all women, regardless of the fact that they’re pathological sociopaths. Instead, let’s cancel a child for drawing She-Ra characters “wrong”, even though she drew the G1 versions of said characters F*ck her, right? Because she liked the designs of the old, problematic, version of that show? It’s on the “wrong side of social justice”. This is a child. One that can’t be more than a decade old but these motherf*ckers came for her, like her last name was Weinstein. It’s kind of hard to take your moral outcry seriously when you’ve directed your hateful intent on a goddamn grade schooler. Sh*t like that, the gross hypocrisy and targeted vitriol, is just f*cking exhausting. You’re entitled to your opinion. Hell, you’re entitled to even voice your opinion out in the wild. The internet is an awesome soapbox. I’m using it right now! As long as the discourse is civil, f*cking go for it. It’s rarely ever civil. Attacking someone because you made assumptions of their character over sh*t they follow on Twatter, is pure folly. Raising the alarm because you don’t like seeing “youthful characters” depicted in a certain fight, while ignoring other media that takes it even further but is more palatable or subtle with their transgressions, is hypocrisy. If you’re going to be outraged about something, if you’re going to call for censorship, make sure yo censor all of it. If you’re going to hide Japanese boob jiggle, make sure you fade to black with the hard sex in your domestic games, too. I’m as offended by Abby’s body in TLoUII, as you are of Ayane’s from Dead or Alive. Why should i be subjected to your bullsh*t while you curtail and demonize mine? Motherf*ckers want to be champions of tolerance and understanding but these same motherf*ckers sure refuse to understand any point of view obtuse to their own. You want that moral high grown so bad? Then stop picking and choosing what is or isn’t offensive. Either all of it is okay or none of it.

I dragged my feet on a lot of cool games this year. I didn't play Smash Bros. until the last week of the year, and got round to Celeste on NYD 2019! Smash is an unremarkable triumph - it is exactly the game I expected, but it's so good and there's so much of it that it was easily the best Switch game this year. Celeste is more interesting; brutal, but kind to the player, with a cracking soundtrack and some magical design. It gains a lot of points for being about something - that punishing difficulty makes you feel like you’re really climbing a mountain, and the frank way it discusses mental health is really phenomenal.

But Two Point Hospital - man! Like Sonic Mania last year, Two Point Hospital is a spiritual sequel to one of my favourite childhood games. Unlike Sonic Mania, it's not perfectly realised. I'm still not a big fan of the art-style, and there were some genuine balance / difficulty issues at launch affecting things like queue length and patient AI. That said, this game has had a ludicrous half life. I love the challenge, I love the mechanics, I love that it's easy to pick up but tricky to master. I love its tone, I love its sense of humour, and some 140 hours in I still don't feel like I'm done enjoying it. Just wonderful.

Hey! A year where I loved more than three albums!

It's nice to have a new band in the top three; I'd never heard of Gesu no Kiwami Otome before this year, but their new album is great. It's even nicer that Muse's long-awaited new album is actually good! I pre-ordered it reluctantly, fully expecting it to be mediocre, but Simulation Theory is a dorky, retro joy. Best of all is that Gorillaz have released two albums-of-the-year in a row! The Now Now was a chilled out treat, the perfect record for a lazy summer evening. Or a winter evening. Or whenever, really. Just play it. It’s grand.

This year has been ridiculous for brilliant television, and there is so much that it's killing me not to include. Last year's winner Taskmaster aired one of its best ever series, but a more uneven run at the start of the year plus stiff competition kept it out of the top three. King of Bots is Chinese Robot Wars, it is berserk, and it has an even more berserk spin-off show - both of which I’ve omitted!

But, three shows that nailed it. Aggretsuko, with its charming characters and acerbic office satire. Orange is the New Black, which has no business being in such rude health after six seasons. James Acaster's four (four!) interlinked stand-up specials. Hard-earned!

I'm usually a bit sniffy about Oscar nominees - I always expect them to be worthy snorefests about how tragic life is. Maybe my tastes are changing, maybe I misjudged them - or maybe this year just happened to be a belter, but last year's Best Picture nominees were superb! I watched four out of the nine, and am gutted to have missed two more. Two of them were released this year in the UK, and are therefore eligible for this blog: The Shape of Water, which is beautiful, romantic, and turns the cold war into a romantic fantasy without sanding off its rough edges, and the morally grey but socially conscious Three Billboards.

Meanwhile, Isle of Dogs wasn’t nominated for any awards, but it was about some nice dogs, so that’s still good for second place.

Temptation is to try and make these lists different every year, but when Reply All and FiveThirtyEight keep nailing it, what else can you do? Reply All did have a slightly more muted year, mostly due to behind-the-scenes stuff, but earns its placement with The Snapchat Thief alone.

The sole newcomer in this list is Whatever Happened to Pizza at McDonalds, an investigative journalism programme (or IJP) that isn't afraid to ask the big questions. Mainly, whatever happened to pizza at McDonalds?

Gein's Family Giftshop, vol. III

I only went to a couple of gigs this year - all of which were good, but I wanted to give Gein's Family Giftshop a special mention.

GFG were already my favourite live comedy act - they perform as a three-person sketch group, a sublime blend of the crude, the audacious and nihilistic. They are fucking phenomenal; I've linked to one of their YouTube sketches above but it's only a tenth as good as the live show.

Anyway, when they played in Bristol, their third member had tonsillitis. Rather than cancel the show, Kath and Ed performed the whole show on their own, and stormed it! Live shows are always best when they feel spontaneous - the danger of knowing anything could go wrong (and to an extent already had!) adds an electricity to a room. Watching it all go right is even better! I laughed so much - one of those events where you just had to be there, and I'm so chuffed that I was.

My annual category for “stuff that wasn’t released this year but I enjoyed checking out.” Nier: Automata was the right kind of ludicrous - full of batshit ideas. Arrival was a more low-key brand of batshit, but still incredibly inventive and oddly optimistic - one of those films where you emerge from the cinema and the world feels a little bit different.

But only one of these moved me to blog. Click here to read me very excitedly discovering Gesu no Kiwami Otome, back in May. The listed EP is the best, but you can’t go wrong anywhere.

Considering it's been my favourite home console franchise since the day it was released, I have given Splatoon short shrift in end-of-year roundups, picking Fallout 4 as my number one game in 2015 and Sonic Mania in 2017.

I don't regret either of those picks, but I'm delighted that Splatoon finally gets to run away with a number one placing this year. The Octo Expansion is incredible value for money, a more-is-more single player campaign with playable octolings at the end - the team nailed it. Phenomenal stuff.

This is non-negotiable, sorry. Genres: I am versatile when it comes to genres and settings that I like to play in. Anything involving vampires, werewolves, demons, witches, shape shifters, aliens, mutants, other urban creature of folklore, given some sort of modern day spun, is absolutely perfect for me. I also really love science fiction in its many forms. I’m not as fond of general real-life or general modern day genres and themes without a good, complex idea attached to it. Characters: Faceclaims, GIFs, drawings, mood boards or just a plain physical description is absolutely welcome / sufficient. I am not someone who necessarily needs a face claim for a character in order ‘to get the picture’. There are many instances where I could not find a suiting match for my character’s definition, so I resorted to drawing them myself or leaving it with a simple description. 
Characters should have flaws - that is a no brainer obviously, since nobody likes a Mary Sue / Gary Stu - but also some unique traits that make them stand out and remain memorable. I take inspiration from JK Rowling or George R.R. Martin for example as each of their character remains very unique and unforgettable in my opinion. They definitely did something right and I want to emulate that, so don’t be afraid to be rather bold with your character creation. Let your imagination run wild and surprise me with your ideas! World building & plotting: An active roleplayer is wanted in this category, without a doubt. I love to world-build, but I tend to lose interest when I am the only one who puts in the effort into it. I can’t do the thinking for two people, so I implore you to at least share the burden (which should not be regarded as such because roleplaying is a fun hobby and nothing more). Too often I find people shying away from it in this regard. If I feel that I’m carrying the weight of the world-building part with specific ideas, I will end the Roleplay in immediately. And consider that the world building is just the tip of the beginning, so from that, I’ll be able to see whether we’ll be a match or not. Because we’d be starting from scratch with whatever we do, it would be a big relief to have someone who doesn’t mind letting ideas flow to set up the universe that we will be roleplaying in. Content: I find writing erotic, dramatic or action packed scenes very enjoyable. I don’t hinder myself when certain subjects are mentioned that may be uncomfortable for the general public. But then again, as a reminder, a Roleplay is not reality but fiction. For example situations that heavily imply and involve brutality, mayhem, psychological and physical torture are things that need exploration. Characters should be fully fleshed out, even the not so pretty parts of one’s personality and actions. There is no black and white, but a wide ranging spectrum of grey areas. A story does not always end well and life is never fair, so to implement this into a Roleplay, it would make a fantastic and very exciting story. Nothing is ever certain, people have their ups and downs… we shouldn’t make an exception here. I am not afraid to delve into even more sinister areas such as psychological trauma if its needed to further the story. I want to be as transparent as I possibly can. I have very few limits. The only subjects I will not touch, or rather avoid are heavy graphic rape scenes, bestiality, necrophilia and pedophilia. Other than that everything is fair game. What I also find quite fascinating is describing someone’s mental as well as physical transformation, ascending to a higher or lower state of being, etc. The process of metamorphosis, may it be the manipulation or corruption of someone… it all is quite eerie and at the same time, intriguing. It all leads to the progression of the story, so be warned that we won’t be walking on egg shells here. 
The story will not be solely centred on dark themes. I love me a mixture of everything, including drama, fluff, angst, action, comedy, romance, adventure, mystery and so forth.
