Series Five - Ghost
Alright so the last full chapter I wrote for REM begins with Inika burning all the shit she has that reminds her of Ollie and moving out to Myshuno.
Cause fuck him, am I right?
Levi sets her up in a new much nicer apartment in the city but the level of luxury is more than she’s used to.
Then they get right to business. Levi has people tracking and doing research on Olin but a lot of the details seem suspect.
They then discuss the event in question, taking Inika back to the day they were arrested. Inika just happened to be in his dorm room and had nothing to do with what Olin had done.
He was not happy they were taking her in too.
So he frees himself once they are in open air and tries to help Inika escape.
Inika notes that she felt as though he thought if he could get her far enough away they’d stop chasing her and put all the focus on him. Unfortunately they were quickly surrounded on all sides and Nika was running out of energy.
Author’s note:
So I meant to put in this chapter or the next one that they end up getting caught because Olin puts Inika in a place he thinks she’ll be safe only for her to get immediately caught and taken back to the station. Olin agrees to turn himself in and explain everything if they agree to let her go.
Anyway... back to what was actually in the chapter. Levi says it’s strange that he’s not in lockdown because blowing up a statue on a crowded university campus should warrant some serious charges. So as he understands it only one of two things happened.
He cleaned up his act.
Or he was recruited by an Agency. Inika disagrees with the latter assessment quite strongly.
Eager to get back to work after weeks of leave, Inika heads out to her warehouse to meet up with her boys.
She is weighed down by the stress of what she and Levi talked about though. While she was gone her team has been tracking Olin. They.. find the work rather boring.
Inika explains that they’d be surprised by what the quiet ones hide.
Then goes outside for a smoke.
Outside in the relative quiet of the city night Inika begins to feel paranoid that she is being watched.
That perhaps Olin might see fit to toss her out into space like Rachel once he finds out how high up she is in Idealogix.
Her anxiety was not exactly misplaced. Olin was watching her and snagged her off the street before she could say much of anything.
Arriving in a bathroom Inika is miffed it wasn’t somewhere nicer but mildly grateful. Olin explains she’s going to be sick soon and doesn’t want it on his furniture.
After recovering from the trip Nika walks out of the bathroom to find herself in a rather nice space.
And is pretty annoyed Ollie never brought her there before.
He explains he only brought her here because it’s off world and it’d be extremely hard for Levi to track her there. Nigh impossible in fact. Then states the reason she got sick is because he pulled her through time and space and humans aren’t really equipped to handle that sort of thing. He then tells her he’ll be keeping here there for the time being.
She accuses of kidnapping her, which he doesn’t dismiss saying that she’s probably already given up a lot of information on him to her boss. Then Inika asks if she’ll just be sitting around doing nothing until he sees fit to let her go. To which he simply says.
Olin then uses Inika’s phone to reach out to Levi, telling him to leave he and his family alone.
Or he’ll have to come after him. After he finishes his business he lets Nika down and in a fury she asks if he is an agent.
Hit the limit again... another short part two incoming.

Ghost cont.
Olin teases Inika saying he thought she knew what one looked like (referencing the time she pulled a gun on Julian) but never confirms or denies anything.
Assuming it’s true Inika kicks herself for not noticing shit sooner and asks him if he knows how much she really wants to hate him right then. Their lives apart from each other were nothing but secrets and lies.
Olin confirms that he does understand as he has also been struggling to reconcile the truth about her and the times they’ve spent together.
They end up sleeping together again.
But it is clear to Nika that Olin has regrets after as he immediately says he has to leave because he has work to do back in Simat.
She tells him not to go yet, not while he is in the mood he’s in but he leaves anyway but not before saying his feelings are complicated but he’ll return at some point.
Back on Simat Olin confesses to his boss Nissa that he’s been compromised and he’s holding Inika (also called Venus) at one of his personal safe houses. Nissa scolds him for being careless and not bringing her in.
Olin says he knows he’ll have to be he has some reservations.
Then Anissa puts him on suspension until he gets his shit together.
And that’s REM5. One more Aux series and we’re all caught up.

Series Four: IIIO
We begin series four with Ollie undercover at an undisclosed warehouse getting a dress down by some unnamed goons.
Seems he destroyed their shit and they are not happy about it one bit. So they’re planning on killing him. Luckily our boy has some tricks up his sleeve and he knocks himself back into a small wormhole.
Before denoting an explosion that destroys the warehouse.
After he gets his business done, he wanders about a bit until he runs into a familiar face.
Back at his apartment, Ollie and Julian catch up over a bowl and then Olin asks why he’s there. Jules admits that he was sent to deliver the unpleasant news than Olin’s mother is unwell and that he’s being summoned back home.
With some degree of hesitation...
Ollie immediately makes his way to Winden Isle the next morning where he is met by his four brothers and his father.
His dad razzes him for being impossible to get ahold of and for taking shit too seriously... even though shit is pretty serious right now.
Joss: “Listen I recognize shit’s not great but.. like probably the worse it has ever been but fuck… lighten up a little. You only live once Olin, you don’t need the fucking stress.”
The pair then head upstairs to see his mother who is no longer able to travel out in public because her illness prevents her from shifting.
The two start out pleasantly, Olin tells her his work in music is going well before Cara lays into him about sleeping around and not being careful enough. Olin swears he is but his mom is less than convinced.
Cara: “Well you fucking better be, just what some poor girl needs is a surprise blue baby. You know this is why we all stay in this fucking town Olin. Most people here have gotten used to us as long as we’re not open about shit. You need to find someone you can trust to fuck around with and make sure they know what they are getting into. You understand me?”
Having survived the dressing down, Olin and his parents wander downstairs to find two of his brothers trying to sneak out for some fun.
Their mom gives her blessing and they drag Ollie along to the club their cousin Luna manages called “The Fire Escape.” Of course their cousins Hazel had to give them the rough for being out on the town when they should be with their mom.
But Tali talked their way out of it.
While Olin notices a familiar face among the crowd and goes outside to get some fresh air.
Nika: “Tell me Olin, how the fuck is it that you keep just being everywhere I need to be? Are you fucking stalking me now?”
Olin: “Oh yeah, and this time I brought my idiot brothers along for the ride. ‘Hey guys why don’t you come help me find this girl I’ve been sleeping with? I really want to scare that fun and attractive woman off by being too fucking clingy.’ Real bonding experience for us. We even stopped for fucking chips on the way.”
They sorted out shit the way they always do.
But quickly Ollie realizes that maybe he should be with his family right now because of the whole.. mom on the verge of dying thing.
Nika is a bit disappointed but they both go back inside.
Inika returns to find her companion annoyed that they have started their mission yet despite the conditions being perfect. Inika tells Rachel they aren’t ready yet and reminds her that Levi doesn’t like it when their lackies don’t follow the chain of command.
Rachel, annoyed, leaves and vows to complete their task herself if she has to. Meanwhile the Rask family discusses recent happenings and have a great time singing and dancing over Uncle Balder’s special brew.
Having had their fill of fun the family heads for home. On the way Fin falls into a a depressive state about his life and the choices he’s made in terms of things with Eva especially.
Fin: “Fuck.. I fucked up everything!! Why am I like thiss?!!”
As they reach the island Luna comments that she’s glad Ollie is there even if it’s not for the easiest of reasons but before they can talk too much they notice something is amiss. Rushing towards his parents house, they find it engulfed in flames.
And his brother holding his lifeless mother.
Realizing that his oldest brother and father are missing, Olin quickly makes the decision to go after them.
Meanwhile Inika is freaking the fuck out at her underling Rachel for her actions. That she should have followed orders. Rachel accuses her of compromising things because of her attachments to Olin.
Rachel: “Oh but you do don’t you? You’re fucking one of them. Don’t try to deny it, I saw you two through the fucking window, you were begging him for it. It was kind of sad the way your face drooped pathetically when he rejected you. Tell me… is his dick blue or grey? I read sometimes they come in pure white. What does yours look like? Either way must be nice, hear they have a lot of stamina. Good for a fucking halfling like you. What fucking luck to not have to scrape it with human trash.”
As the two women argue though the lights go out and it’s clear they have visitors.
Luna, not wanting Olin to go it alone, joins him on his search for his father and brother. They quickly locate Eddy who has been drugged by something that shouldn’t grow on Simat, a Kas plant that is easily made into a neurotoxin.
Olin wants to find who has done this and how they got the chemicals so Luna agrees to get his father and brother out of harms way as Ollie peruses the ones responsible.
TBC because I think I hit a hard limit on images for one post.

Series Two: Runaway Princess
So picking up where things left off in Series One, some of the Rask Clan head out to OS to talk some sense into Fin. Estra tags along because her own family is convening in DSV to decide if they should press charges.
Fin tries to get her opinion on the whole thing since she’s been estranged from her family for a while at this point in time and hopes she’ll see things from his side.
But she tries to stay diplomatic so she doesn’t get herself in hot water with the Yager family legal team. Despite this Luna outs her opinion to everyone anyway.
Stressed from dealing with his brother and family bs, Olin suggests he and Estra find some place more private to be. It’s clear they’ve been having some sort of relationship but Estra is not exactly comfortable with it. Besides Estra needed to get to DSV before someone was sent to collect her.
Once they arrive Olin asks if he should stay in case she needs to leave but she tells him she can handle her family.
Inside her Uncle Leith’s ridiculous manse, Estra is met by one of her many cousins - Esther, who guides her into the livingroom where some of the of the family is already in discussions on what to do with Finian.
The general consensus is they should press charges for violating Eva’s privacy.
But Eva just wants things to go away so she can get on with her life. Leith’s oldest child, Joel agrees.
Trying to help Esther rattles off a series of mistakes they’ve all made as young but accidently drops the bomb that Estra had an abortion in front of her overprotective dad.
Frey was not pleased.
Upset and embarrassed, Estra goes to leave and ends up arguing with her dad at the front door, who tells her he could have helped her but she makes it clear she doesn’t want any of his type of help.
And then did what she always does when she’s stressed.
Ran away. Furious and alone she makes her way into the city to hang out at the rooftop of her Aunt’s club. She assumes her family will find her eventually but lets herself relax for the moment.
That is until her ex, Malachi shows up and the two have an argument about stealing his hat and her wearing it for pin up photos that anyone with access to the web could see.
She in turn tells him he has not right to be jealous since they haven’t been together for years and he’s dated plenty of people.
They recognize through their jealous ramblings that they had clearly missed each other and decide to escape the stress of their current lives and run off to Sulani together.
While on the road, Estra starts to have cold feet and decides to tell Mal about their baby she didn’t keep, know that he could end up very upset with her over the whole thing. Instead he admits he already knew about it as he has friends inside her family who didn’t like that kind of secret being kept from him. Estra is relieved but is curious who his source might be.
Meanwhile her family is on her trail, while they haven’t found out she went to the club yet they assume she might be with Olin and send Novari company men out to find him.
Annoyed with the intrusion on her apartment, Inika greets these visitors with her gun, threatening to blow them both away if they don’t quickly verify who they are and what they want.
Olin beg them both to stand down and reveals that one of the men is Estra’s brother Julian.
“They’re not agents, I fucking promise. Please do not shoot him.”
They all meet outside to talk and Olin confesses he has no idea where Estra is. Julian says he knows they’re in a relationship to which Inika laughs and adds that there is no relationship there. That she, Olin, and Estra just like to have a bit of fun sometimes.
Now at an airfield in OS, Mal explains to Estra he has a friend that can help them get out of town. Estra is nervous because her family uses this particular field a lot but Malachi reassures her it’ll be fine and just to lay low.
Unfortunately Estra was right to be nervous. It turns out Malachi’s friend and source was her cousin’s husband Eric.
And despite doing her best to dismiss them Roxanne and her son Jericho recognize her almost immediately.
Sending Jericho inside Roxie tries to convince her cousin not to leave because the family will not be pleased about it once they find out who she’s running with.
Estra confesses to Roxanne that Mal is the man she was involved with in college that she’s been stuck on and to have some sympathy for her as all she wants is to be with someone that makes her happy for a while.
Unsure it’s exactly the right thing to do Roxanna agrees not to alert her Uncle that Estra is there until they’ve left and gives her husband her approval.
After Estra and Mal leave, Eric asks Roxie if she’s really sure she wanted to do that since Frey is already worked up about things and might actually punish them in some way.
Roxie just tells him to let her worry about her family.
And the end of series two finds Estra and Malachi in Sulani enjoying their much desired alone time.

The warehouse Inika typically worked out of was just off the docks in the Spice District. She liked the location previously due to its accessibility to Olin’s apartment. Even when she didn’t want to go see him, the option was there. Now that benefit was put to use by the team watching him. They had to tread carefully and generally didn’t have someone following him directly. The boss had warned against such tactics, the Rask were known for their familiarity with flows of energy. It wouldn’t take much for a small ripple to make waves in their headspace. No, this work was largely done through tapping into the city’s vast network of silent surveillance systems and nearby cell phones.
“Hey boys, party’s over, the boss is on deck.” Inika called out as she walked in. She worked with a lot of different teams at Idealogix, but these guys, these were hers.
“Well fucking finally! We got something new to do?” It was no surprise to her that Jonas was bored with this job. As the youngest, he was naturally the most eager to prove in some big way. Catching up on hours of pre-recorded video was not exactly a ticket to the top.
“Don’t listen to him Venus,” Dalian chimed in, “Some of us are happy for desk work for a change.” Dalian had been with her almost since she started working for Hansen. He had been the youngest member of her Uncle Otis’ crew before he died and was happy to stay with her family.
“Yeah man… I am good,” Weston added, his usual half-there, half-care, tone barely growing above a whisper. This sort of task fit him just fine. He never complained about much as long as he had the cash to keep himself well stocked in shrooms.
“Well glad to see you all are coping well with this detail save for young guns over there.” Inika smirked, “Don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll have something for your taste soon Jonas.”
“Well good because this asshole we’re watching is fucking boring.” Jonas whined, “There’s like nothing remotely interesting about him. Why the fuck are we doing this shit?”
“Because I said so, and besides, you’d be surprised how much the quiet ones have to hide.” As the words slipped her lips Inika couldn’t help but smile a bit. It was hard to forget what Ollie really looked like now that she’d seen it.

“Ollie?” Inika called as she made her way into a large open space. His apartment in the city was nice but this...this was something else. “Holy shit. What the fuck is this place?”
“Hey sorry.” Olin replied as he climbed down to her, “I went upstairs to clean up.”
“Nice place, you said it’s yours?”
“Yeah I sort of built it.” His eyes lit up with a mild hint of pride, “Used to be an old barn. I just moved it and cleaned it up.”
“There a reason I’ve never been here?” As much as she tried she couldn’t disguise the mild sting she felt that he had kept something so major from her. Though admittedly she wasn’t sure she had the right to care. They both had their secrets.
“Truthfully Nika, no one has been here before today. So don’t get fucking snippy.” Usually he was a mild man but one downside to their intimacy was how little Olin filtered himself for her. “The only reason you’re here now is because it’s the most isolated place I could think to keep you for a while.”

In the meantime life carried on. Levi had allowed her some time to collect herself but had made the prudent suggestion that perhaps a change of scene would do her some good. She’d always made a point to live far from Myshuno. She wanted to avoid letting her work flood into what personal life she managed to eke out between assignments. Oasis had been a sanctuary of the privacy she liked to keep for herself but now that all didn’t seem to matter. It was all a wash.
“So, what do you think?!” The Boss always lit up at the sight of even the slightest bit of luxury, “Absolutely fantastic right?”
Inika wasn’t exactly sure it was a fit for her though, “Seems like a bit much to me.”
“You say that now, but just wait until you get used to it.” He replied with a sly grin. It wasn’t often that she got to see this side of him since they mostly met at the office where annoyances were in abundance. So for the moment anyway it seemed like it’d be wise to give in to his good humor.
“You’re right Boss, it’s perfect.” She relented as genuinely as she could muster. The thought of having to clean such a large space still weighing heavily on her mind.
“Damn right I’m right, I mean what the fuck is not to like? Just look at this view.”

“Are you a fucking suit Ollie?” Inika decided the direct route would work best. Ollie was pretty damn good at dodging difficult discussions but she wasn’t going to let him get out of this one.
“What?” He snapped back. Good, he was annoyed, just like she wanted.
“You fucking heard me.” She pushed on, “Don’t you dare try and lie either. I’ll know. You know I’ll fucking know.”
“Didn’t you say you knew what one looks like? What do you think? Do I look the part Nika? You ever seen me in a fucking suit?”
“Nice attempt…” If she wasn’t so upset she’d almost laugh at that joke of a response. She had to hand it to him, he didn’t try to outright lie but if his greatest tell was always avoidance, “Fuck Ollie.. I can’t believe you. I can’t believe I didn’t see it. Been fucking a g-man this whole fucking time.”

Three months had passed since the incident in Winden and the sound of silence had held its ground between them. It was the longest she had gone without hearing from him in recent memory and that quiet haunted Inika more than she wanted to admit.

“So you ready for the rundown? Or do you want to settle in first?” And just like that Levi’s mood turned faster than fall weather off The Bay.
“Ugh… just tell me.” Inika sighed as she tossed her bag aside.
“There’s good news and there’s bad news and unfortunately they happen to be one and the same. Turns out your little blue boytoy is clean. Like unbelievably clean.”
“I’m sorry that’s just not possible.” Inika tried to bury her defensive tone as her mind took her back to somewhat simpler times, “There has to be some record.”
“Oh there’s a fucking record but it’s all delinquent shit.” Hansen exclaimed in clear frustration, “Destruction of public property, trespassing… but nothing about that damn terrorism charge.”
“But I was fucking there Levi, I was in the room when he was arrested.”
“Oh I know and I have other witnesses but according to the government, that shit never happened.”

“Estra you idiot! You don’t fucking know? It’s all over the gossips! She’s marrying that fucking darkspawn of Hansen. I thought if she would have told anyone it would have you. You’re always together.”
“Wait are you serious?”
“You didn’t tell us that Fin! I thought it was just some actor.”
“Yeah well turns out that asshole used a stage name. Fuck, she probably just wants to make her dad mad.”
“There’s actually more to it than that.”
“Well then fucking enlighten us would you Olin? We’re supposed to protect our people and she is part of our fucking people. They’re probably going to use this as some loophole to take everything we’ve gained since we fucking came here. How can we stand by and let this shit happen?”
“Because it’s probably what she wants. You know if she didn’t, she wouldn’t be doing that shit.”
“Ollie’s right, Star is more stubborn than you are and that’s fucking saying a lot Finny. I’m sure she could leave him any time she wants to but if they’ve gone public it’s unlikely that’s what she wants.”

“Wait… Ollie, don’t go.” It was strange to chase after him. Another first, what was becoming of her? “Not while you’re in this mood.”
“What mood?” No surprise that he was pretending to be fine.
“You’re being even more distant than usual and that’s fucking saying something.”
“I’m sorry, I just don’t want to hurt you again and I feel the longer I stay the more likely that shit is to happen.” Olin remained turned away, she wondered if his face looked as broken as his voice sounded, “My feelings toward you are very complicated and I am struggling to sort that out. I’ll be back soon. I promise.”
It wasn’t what she wanted to hear but it was better than nothing.
