Both parties were placed under $50 to keep the peace.
Abraham Bornstein shoved his wife's false teeth down her throat, so Magistrate Patterson placed him under $200 bond to keep the peace and warned Abraham to keep away from his wife. He was given the alternative of six months in jail.
Charged with theft of a dress, Sadie Zulyn, 150 Franklin, pleaded not guilty, claiming that she had never been in the store in question. 
But Sadie was remanded for sentence by a skeptical court and put on probation for year. Restitution of the dress was ordered. 
"Investigations show that you're a fine fellow until you get to drinking," Magistrate Margaret Patterson told Louis Neil, convicted of assault. Court placed him under $200 bond to keep the peace. He was further put on probation for one year and ordered to abstain from alcoholic liquor. 
Mrs. Elizabeth Hunt told the court that Joseph Hutchinson and his wife Nellie had given her a black eye, but she refused to testify further because Joe was her brother. The charge was withdrawn. 
"He broke the drain, he broke the sink, he pulled the paper off the walls," complained Mrs. D. Ginsler, testifying against John McMaster, whom she accused of damaging the house which she had rented to him. The place was so filthy I thought I would be suffocated. I swam in the cellar." 
"Did the medical health department tel! you the place was not habitable before you went into this man house?" "No." 
McMaster, married, with 10 children, denied that the house was in good condition when he took it over. He was ordered to repair the drain. "For the other damage the complainant will have to sue in division court," ruled Magistrate Patterson,

Page 18.  ---- Statute Invoked by Officials to Secure Taxes in Arrears ---- 100 ARE INVOLVED --- Oakville, Feb. 27.- In order to collect arrears of taxes at a time when. revenue is urgently needed, renters of houses on which there are arrears, have been instructed to pay their monthly rent direct to the town instead of the landlords, The Star learned to-day. 
Acting on the statute which gives him the power to take this action, Treasurer C. H. Byers has notified some 100 tenants that on Marche 1 they are to pay their rents into the town treasury. 
"The statute has been in force for many years," Mr. Byers told The Star, "but this may be the first time it has been enforced in Oakville. I am not sure how much revenue will be secured, but we will know after the first of the month." 
"The treasurer has statutory authority to collect rent from tenants whose landlords have not paid taxes without resolution of the council or the finance committee," stated Deputy Reeve J. L. Hewson, member of the finance committee. 
“This is the first time it has ever been done," he said. "The amount of unpaid taxes is increasing every year and the situation has got to be cleared up. We are getting in deeper and deeper year after year." 
Action similar to that just taken by Oakville was taken in several municipalities bordering on Toronto, notably New Toronto and Mimico, several months ago.
Magistrate Recovering Magistrate W. E. McIlveen of Oakville, who has been seriously ill with pneumonia following, a chill caught on a motor journey to Milton, is showing a decided improvement in condition, it was reported from his home here to-day. 
Play-off Postponed  The play-off between Oakville and Grimsby hockey teams, scheduled for to-night, has been postponed until tomorrow night, and will be played in Hamilton Grimsby holds a 2 goal lead over Oakville.
