the littlest Corrie

Corrie Guard CT-9832, “Ace”, reported for duty for the very first time at 0700 in Commander Fox’s office.

The commander had clearly been working through the night — either that or he was partial to three ration tins, a whole pot of caf, and meditating face-down on his desk first thing in the morning.

Fives— no, Ace— knocked on the doorframe. Loudly.

Fox jerked upright, eyes crossed, drool drying in his stubble. When he finally focused on Ace, he stopped looking baffled and became disgustingly smug.

“Ace. How does the kit fit?” He rasped.

Ace took off his bucket so he could scowl more effectively. “Bit on the nose, calling me that.”

Fox’s self-satisfied smirk turned nasty, but no less pompous. “My apologies. Would you have preferred ‘Baby Blue’?”

Ace sat down at the commander’s desk without waiting for permission, propping his boots on the dusk with pointedly heavy thunks.

“Better’n ‘Dead Man’.” He said.

The Promise

Cody had no identification card, and he certainly didn’t have a citizenship. He had a receipt of purchase, designating him by code and bio-signature as a particularly complex, high-functioning blob of programmed bio-material, but officially CC-2224 was considered only part of a whole. The GAR was a body, complete with organs and tools, and Cody might flatter himself with a comparison to being a finger at best — whichever one pulled the trigger.

“You wish.” Fox said flatly, overcorrecting for the slur that had crept in sometime during their second shared bottle, his bucket firmly resealed again. “You’re a damned eye.”

Cody thought about that for a moment; thought about watching battles from overhead, giving and receiving reports and knowing too many odds too well. He nodded slowly, flexing his hands. 

“If I’m an eye, you’re the teeth.” He said, and it was a bit cruel but it always had been; they’d learned how to swallow it better together. Teeth, Cody considered, and knew he was as right as he was angry — teeth, the smile of the GAR, pretty and presentable and favorable to the public eye, nestled at the heart of the Republic. The Coruscant Guard. 

Fox shrugged so slowly it was more just shoulders hunching, which meant — something. Something Cody might have cared to track, if he was sober.  “Sure. I’ll be the teeth.” He said.

The sleeve is not only aesthetic, but so EXTRA

CW mutilation: Fox’s right hand index-finger: “Ahsoka’s Gift” - In the arc where Fives (appears) to get shot by Fox, enraged by this and by her treatment by the Coruscant guard during her trial arc, Ahsoka takes revenge on the offending digit that shot the gun. With her teeth, btw — it gets a bit wild. Side-note: It factors in for the other clones that Fox is not right-handed, but that’s the hand he uses to shoot Fives. Then again, most clones are trained/raised/adjusted to be ambidextrous, so — it’s just odd all around, from the outside.

GAR armor: In keeping with the AU title and inspiration (Repurposing GAR armor towards the end of pulverizing wrinkly Sith — A guide by CC-1010, ecstatically-ex-marshal commander of Coruscant), Fox has kept his GAR shoulder-guards, a cutout of his chestplate, and knee-guards (plus one shin-guard), though the paint on them has been adjusted or worn.

Oversized sleeve: Beneath the batwing sleeve and dramatic flair, Fox is hiding whatever the rebellion uses instead of the Mandalorian Whistling Birds, in addition to an elbow-mini-blaster that fires a max of four shots, and extra ammo. (Also the sleeve is removable — think detachable bridal train)

CW self-destruction: On the reverse side of his chest-plate piece, Fox has an explosive device with multiple ways to rig it to explode. While it is detachable and likely could be used to explode OTHER things, the primary intent is a last resort gesture of defiance should he run out of other options.

Fox also has a replaced tooth (which he makes use of, but no spoilers here) and a metal plate protecting the surgery point for when his chip was removed. Since Fox is Fox, he prioritized speed over care at the time, so it is permanent vulnerability due to how his skull was treated and recovered afterward.

obviously i’m gonna ask about “A Day In The Life Of A Corrie” 👀 while also bracing myself~

@lesquatrechevrons, here you are! I’ll be tagging you in the other WIP as well.

This one’s an atmospheric study - another slice from the RepGA AU. There are quite a few scenes I’m omitting for spoilers.

In the AU, the Corries don’t stay isolated in the senate for long after they arrive. Fox and co. soon realize they’re working with selective information, and proceed to intel-gather like they’re in enemy territory, building infrastructure and hunting through the lower levels until they hit places most governing bodies have purposefully forgotten about or made completely automated.

Along the way they compete (and negotiate) with criminal syndicates, mostly-forgotten isolated slums, shipping markets, understaffed policing forces, media and news groups, and eventually establishing themselves as a multifaceted shadow-group growing like a foreign, invasive weed under M.C. Fox’s direct command.

It’s a grey war of information, subtle seizure of power, and ugly dilemmas.
