Jesus I feel so bad for grant. They were friends. They were practically brothers. They grew up fighting in the apocalypse together as the only 2 humans in their little found family. They fought so hard to protect their kids. Terry Jr Didn’t know it was his own brother who would take him out & he never will, but he knew that he was about to die & he used his last moments to tell his step daughter that he loved her and that he loved his wife. Willy forced Grant to do this and Grant has to live with that forever. He killed Terry with one efficient shot to the head, like the skilled sniper he regrets becoming while relishing in the thrill of it all the same. Grant killed his pseudo brother right in front of his own son Lincoln, whom he wanted to shield from this side of him. Terry Jr was killed right in from of Terry Marlowe, the child whom he would have literally raised hell for. They love their families so much and they never got a chance to stop fighting & simply be a family. They were children on their way to a soccer tournament & in a single moment, catalyzed by a terrible selfish man, they became soldiers fighting to survive and they were never children again.

I just realized how did Ron know that Terry was in hell? I mean I don’t think you get alerted whenever your family member dies and doesn’t go to wherever you are.  but then I thought about it a little bit more, and it’s established in S2 ep23 that Jodie keeps track of everybody who goes into hell to some extent. So what if my man was just reading through the paperwork of who got into hell, and then sees Terry. and knows how emotionally devastating that will be for Ron, so he goes down to mega hell and tells Glenn. Glenn knows that there’s no avoiding this and that he’ll have to tell Ron so he calls him and they have a conversation. Ron thinking that Terry will come through the gates of heaven soon and Glenn having to tell him that he’s already came through the gates, but just not of Heaven. And Ron, insisting that he has to be wrong, because Terry’s a good boy. And Glenn saying that he knows Terry is a good boy, but he did some things that even Terry would agree weren’t good things. So then Ron goes like “okay i’ll be down, but heres this to give to him” and then accidentally group messages, everyone the letter, and that’s how we got the letter at the end of the episode.

JJK S2 E36

Okay, so, much has been said about how beautiful MAPPA has made Nanami look here in S2, and I don't disagree. (I definitely don't envy Shigemo, but y'all do you, we don't kinkshame in my house.)

But I wanna talk about Nanami finding Ijichi.

There's a lot of talk about how Nanami was/is Gojo, Ieiri, and Geto's kohai, but Ijichi was/is Nanami's.

Think about how Nanami probably tried to be a different kind of senpai than the ones he had. Imagine timid adult Ijichi as a 14/15 year old kid. Gojo probably picked on him back then, too, and Nanami was probably the one who would tell Gojo to stop being an asshole, and Haibara was probably the one to try to motivate Ijichi and encourage him.

Then Haibara died, and Geto left, leaving Ijichi with cynical/pragmatic Nanami, and Gojo who is Gojo.

How incredibly relieved must Nanami have been when Ijichi decided to go the manager route instead of trying to be a sorcerer? If he hadn't, maybe Nanami wouldn't have left, since he'd still have one person who needed his protection. Being a manager isn't safe, but it's so much safer than being a sorcerer.

Then Nanami finds Ijichi, the one who puts up with everyone's shit, with people looking down on him, barely alive, stabbed to bits, and bleeding out.

MAPPA doing that quick flash to Haibara was so... fuck. Nanami probably thought that, by becoming a manager, Ijichi was, if not safe, at least safer, that what happened to Haibara wouldn't happen to him.

Was Nanami close enough outside the door to hear Nitta screaming when Shigemo was stabbing her over and over, or to hear Kugisaki trying to hold her own?

The episode opens with Nanami talking about how getting irritated with his own failings will never be part of his life. (The official manga translation phrases it "I never have and never will be frustrated by my own uselessness." I have no idea how good or accurate any of these translations are.) Back when he first fought Mahito, Nanami said that he didn't bring his personal feelings into work, and Mahito told him he sucked at lying, that his soul was trembling ("What a terrible liar! Your soul is wavering.").

Nanami doesn't lie to himself about reality, about the situation that he and other sorcerers are in, but he only holds it together by lying to himself all the time. He has to keep it all bottled up or he will tear himself apart trying to destroy everything that hurts the people around him who are weaker, or just unluckier.

Nanami is the polar opposite of the curses, and in this moment, it's even more apparent against Shigemo the curse user, who only cares if he's having fun, who probably behaves the most like a curse himself out of the curse users we've seen in this arc. Nanami keeps it all bottled up, pushed down. He'll state how he feels about something, but he's trying so hard not to let himself feel it because otherwise it will eat him alive faster than it already is.

Given everything that happened leading up to their confrontation? Shigemo got off light.
