i finished 7th dragon a lil while ago n some of the worldbuilding is so funny i cant stop thinking abt it. why is the lost city of atlantis populated by catgirls

I thinks it's not rly that q!Slime 'downplays' his present-day bonds, we know he holds his friends and confidants in VERY high regards by the framing the QSMP Preamble in the basement + Pomme's rare flowers she gave him today. His relationship as tio to Tilin also was one of the reasons he threw himself into Eggxile in the first place. His relationships mean the world to him - but he's stuck on believing those feelings are simply not reciprocated / better yet he believes he doesnt deserve that same level of love. (tho thats probably what you're talking about skjdhvbd)

And it certainly felt that way initially, back when people barely knew him - they treated his life (those items in the basement) as a Cautionary Tale to steer clear from. I mean that impression of Slime is very evident by the way q!Quackity used to talk about Slimeriana. But now that he's Here, as both Slime and Gegg, the Elections had allowed people to know more about Slime other than just items in the basement. There's a person who built that space and put meaning into those items.

q!Slime is SUCH a tragic character YES! he's my favourite cuz he's written tragically in a way that's sensible for what he's been through, and that there's always hope for things to get better; which in retrospect communicates such a beautiful message. What made you ship it? Started for the fluff and stayed for the toxic ship 😈- GOD Quackity and Luzu fucking outdid themselves with Luckity in Karmaland V like dude it's just so good- like looking back on it the writing was already on the walls that they were so doomed from the very start- like they somehow manage to be both "it's tragic because it didn't have to end this way" and "it's tragic because it was always gonna end this way." if that makes sense. But god at the start it was just so easy to overlook the blaring the red flags because they'd give us just enough hope that it'd end well only for the rug to get pulled during the elections and the whole dynamic get's flopped on it's head but now instead of cute fluff or funny flirting it's this Angry passion and resentment- from start to end they were devoted to each other whether in hatred or in love. The build-up and payoff were both just amazing even if I felt miffed about the ending of the arc at first I've since come to love it because really it's just the cherry on top of their tragedy leaving the possibility they could just end up doing it all over again yeah <3 They were The Moment yeah!

What are your favorite things about the ship? A lot of things but like- I love that they're sun and moon coded <33333 I remember associating them with sun/moon imagery before they took those iconic photos with the sun and moon and like I was so hyped when that happened <3 my toxic sun/moon boys yeah <3

i love the implicit understanding they have with each other, based partially in the fact that they are both heirs separated from a crown for very different reasons. moiraine and lan are both people who cannot go back to where they came from, whether they want to or not. so there is this shared sense of loneliness, and drift that they share, wrapped up in the idea that they probably aren't going to survive the last battle (or even the journey to it) and would rather sacrifice themselves than have anyone they care for or, in moiraine's case for some people deem more necessary to The Pattern (although to be fair to her, this often still means having a certain level of care for them she just um. wasn't raised to know how to show any healthy positive emotion i don't think) moving in companionable silence eternally Searching™

i've grown increasingly haunted by this exchange they have at the end of new spring:

like............"surrender after you are dead. yes." is the sentiment set up as one of the core values of their partnership starting from the very moment she decides to ask lan to be her warder. surely, this will end well for all parties and will NOT have any tragic implications!

it sets up this really harsh poetic symmetry (surprise) when they have their Big Fight™ in the great hunt. moiraine LITERALLY invokes how they first met with funny little jokes abt him throwing her in a pond to get his defenses down so she can jump scare him w an intense re-examination of their relationship. the whole fight is basically her forcing him to think on his toes so she can examine him at his most basic emotional level in order to try and expose the truth abt how he feels, going from playful to painful at the flip of a coin lol. and he's aware of it!!! him calling her out on it and her answering back w patented Aes Sedai Speak, in a relationship that should be free of such manipulation.....

the real master stroke here, though, is the fact that the chapter is from moiraine's pov. we get to see her own inner thoughts about it and see that beneath the devastating chess game she's playing she's just as heartbroken at having to play it. the argument is really a crystalization of what makes her such an interesting character for me -- she is leveraging absolutely brutal social dynamics in order to, from her perspective, HELP someone she cares for deeply.

essentially, moiraine is saying that in his love for nynaeve he's found something to live for beyond sacrifice and that means that their bond to each other must be terminated. he can create a new life, and bc she thinks she understands how everything will play out moiraine thinks she is just cutting down the time before he realizes he can and will ask for her to dissolve the bond anyway. he isn't wed to death anymore, leaving the heavy implication that moiraine still is.

which sets us up for something really interesting for them in s2 i think! while their relationship in the show seems to generally be under less strain than it is where we see them in the mainline series, there remains another crucial difference btw the books and the show -- moiraine has siuan!!!!! im rly excited to see how that comes into play in terms of any potential interpretation of this fight/the breakdown of lan and moiraine's relationship bc it makes her decision to push him away feel even more hypocritical and rooted in her tendency to be self-sacrificing to the point of self loathing.

tldr for anyone just trying to figure out what this might all mean for season two according to one singular poster on tumblr dot com: in the books moiraine feels very........time to burn all bridges so no one can chase after me on my suicide mission basically and i can't say im NOT excited to see if that's where she ends up in the show (to live is to suffer etc etc)

Oh, God, I never saw someone talk about Ninjago's Arabic dubs, and let me tell you as someone who grew up watching them, they are absolutely horrible. Their voices are either too squeaky or too deep; their VAs don't suit them, and as you said, they keep changing. When I was little, I obv didn't understand English enough to watch the English dubs (considering that I was 4-5 when the show started), and when I finally started watching the English dubs (I was about 11-12, and it was Hunted), I was shocked by how good the VAs are??? Like omg they actually have consistent VAs??? that actually suit them??? I think that the problem with the Arabic dubs is that they always put women to voice little kids, teenage girls, and women, and very, very old men for (male) teenagers and adults. This way, a very old woman in the show might end up sounding like that random five-year-old, and boys all sound the same. They also frequently mispronounce names; for example, they pronounce Cole as Cool? Faith as Feeth (with a soft th) or something similar? Spinjitzu ends up sounding like a keyboard smash? AND they always translate puns and jokes word by word to the point where the joke isn't even a joke anymore; it's just a random statement that doesn't make any sense. There's also the fact that they even mispronounce some words (I remember Cole in Hunted once said "يبدو لذيذًأ" but the VA said "يبدو لزيزًأ") or they say some words in the Egyptian dialect (which I don't really mind tbh, but please stick to one thing).

I have never seen Crystallized in the Arabic dub, but wth happened to their voices?

WAIT, I also remembered something. "Tragic" scenes usually end up really funny in the Arabic dubs, and I've never realized that they were supposed to be sad until I got a tumblr account and saw people saying that they cried watching them (e.g. Zane's first sacrifice, the Overlord possessing Garmadon, etc.)

arabic dubs are always a mixed bag. i rly can’t complain about lloyds voice actress because she does attempt to make her voice less high pitched when lloyd is aged up. how i think this all works though is that the voice actors are part of a group/company and other companies who want voices for dubbing would have to hiring them as a group rather than separately getting the voice actors (i assume it’ll just be more expensive this way) which would explain the constant changes between the voices actors.

the main jokes that rarely would get translated would be the ones that make a joke using english words. like the usually “duck” gag that happens in cartoons cant rly be translated to arabic so they usually don’t. sometimes the jokes in english would end up being completely different jokes in arabic but i enjoy those because it does show that they’re putting in more effort for it to make sense for arab audiences (this whole paragraph is me talking abt cartoons in general)

i also don’t mind the occasional dialect slip tbh but it is weird when it happened when they’re saying characters names (in the last clip i posted jay refers to kai as “قاي" ? who’s قاي 😤??)

favorite thing about them

she’s just. genuinely very enjoyable. like I feel like other characters I have more specific things to say about them but she’s literally just very fun to watch I love her beautiful woman weird guy who is also a worm energy. her swagger her panache her power. all the scenes where she’s doing her professional science job and also just saying some vaguely insane shit are important to me. but then like I also think one of the most interesting things in her character was kind of unintentional as they were trying to sort her out where early jadzia was a lot quieter and more serious and theoretically more like she was before joining and then she just kind of evolves into her final form. like I don’t think that was intentional I think they just kinda went hmm this character isn’t working let’s try something else but I think the idea that sometimes it’s this gradual progression towards a balance (in a different way than it is for ezri later as well) is an interesting one.

least favorite thing about them

it’s too easy to talk about tears of the prophets and the whole like “she’s never mentioned that they want kids before now but since they’re killing her off she is now Woman Who Wants A Baby because i guess her death isn’t tragic enough otherwise, and it feels like cheating to talk about how “if worf hadn’t shown up it would’ve been you” (idr if that’s the exact quote and I refuse to look it up but it’s like that) is a horrendous retcon, but holy shit everything that happened at the end of s6 into s7 was like. it’s just so clearly spiteful?? like I’m not breaking new ground here we all know it but god.

also I do think her willingness to just like throw her life away for some random guy she met two days ago is kind of funny but if I knew her in real life it would drive me insane

I do like worfzia a lot when they’re written well (90s trek loved the “a relationship can’t be interesting unless they’re fighting about dumb shit all the time” school of thought, and while some of their arguments made sense bc they had conflicting worldviews and experiences and shit that they should reasonably have to struggle to work out, some of them felt like they were more a feature of this). but also kiradax soooo deeply important to me from like late s1 onward and I simply think. what if they were wifes.
