Meet Mangos wife, Sandy Yellow! Sandy for short. Head canon… context- uh-.. thingy: Sandy met Mango in college along with Copper Rust, (Corn-Dog-Guy. Friends call him Rusty,) and after a while they realized they had feelings for each other. Sandy confessed first since Mango didn’t want to take the risk of ruining their friendship. They were a happy couple for a while, with Rusty being a third-wheel, until Mango finally mustered up the courage to propose to Sandy. Of course, she said yes. And they got married. (Yay!)

Years later they wanted a baby, and that’s when Goldie came into the picture. In a sad twist of fate, Gold came into the world the same day Sandy left it. Mango knew Sandy would want him to move on and care for their son, so that’s what he did. Mango tried to be the best dad ever and protect Gold, just like Sandy would’ve wanted. (Another reason he didn’t take Gold’s death well at all.)

The master thief known as Savoir-Faire is a suave and sophisticated mouse who operates in the wintery tundra near the British-Canadian stronghold, Fort Frazzle.  Always stealing food and other goods, the mouse enjoys signing his work by singing his catchphrase ‘Savoir-Faire eez everywhere’ in his thick French-Canadian accent.  

The clumsy yet determined Klondike Kat was assigned to put an end to Savoir-Faire’s crime spree.  Despite the cat’s declaration that ‘Klondike Kat always gets his mouse,’ Savoir-Faire has nonetheless stayed a step ahead and has never been captured.

Actor Sandy Becker provided the voice for Savoir-Faire, with the character first appearing in the Saturday morning anthology, The Beagles, airing on September 10th, 1966.

Captain Syverson Fanfic

Violet settled into the back of the truck beside Matt for their daily water delivery. Once they were on the road, he leaned over to speak softly. "What's going on between you and Sy?"

"None of your business." She shot him a glare, her response tinged with defensiveness. He sighed, shaking his head. She sensed his disappointment. "Men in the army are known for hooking up with women everywhere they go. But I can't hook up with someone just because I'm a woman?"

"That's not it, and you know it. But, as you said, men are known for hooking up. I—"

"Oh..." She sighed, patting his leg as she realized she had misinterpreted his concerned expression as one of disappointment. "Look, we knew each other before I got here. I assure you; he isn't taking advantage of me. We—"

Her words were abruptly cut short by the sound of gunfire erupting from the hills to their right. "Fuck."

Chaos unfolded as Harper ordered everyone to keep driving, and the men grabbed their guns to return fire. Four assailants were perched atop the hill, firing down at their Humvees and the water truck.

A bullet struck one of the front tires of the water tank, causing the truck to come to a halt in the middle of the open area. They all climbed out, guns in hand, determined to drive off the attackers.

"Fuck!" Harper shouted, assessing the truck's damage. The front tire was blown out, and the water tank was riddled with holes, water leaking onto the sandy ground. "Ocre, Chutsky, and Becker, keep watch."

Violet nodded, setting up her gun on a rock to provide cover toward the direction the attackers had fled. Meanwhile, some of the other men worked to change the damaged tire.

"Fuck this," Chutsky spat after about an hour of tense stillness. He glared at Violet, who turned her gaze towards him. "I warned you about that bastard in the truck. But no one listened to me."

"Your concern has been noted. Thank you, Chutsky," Harper responded, irritation evident as Chutsky got to his feet.

"Enough of this." He strode over to where the water was leaking from the truck and positioned himself under the stream with a smug grin, evoking laughter from the others. "Better."

Violet removed her helmet, allowing her long blonde hair to cascade down from its tight ponytail. She leaned over, wetting her hair with the water, and felt the eyes of the men on her. Rolling her eyes, she commented, "That does feel better."

"Alright," Harper chuckled. "Back to your posts."

Chutsky laughed, nudging Violet. "I think I need someone to scrub my back, sir. Care to help, princess?"

"Ha ha." Violet playfully pushed him, causing him to tumble into the damp sand, earning laughter from the group. "You'd think I'd be angry, but I'm not." He grinned up at her from the water, and she shook her head in response.

Syverson stood with his arms crossed over his chest, his gaze fixed on Harper as he recounted the events of the day. His concern was palpable, and his eyes drifted to Violet, scanning her form for any signs of injury. "Anyone hurt?" he finally inquired as Harper finished his report.

"We're all okay," Violet assured, understanding that his primary concern was for her well-being. "Captain."

"Good." He cleared his throat, nodding slightly. "We'll need to patch up the holes, then."

"Yes, sir," Harper acknowledged, walking away to attend to his duties.

Syverson shifted his attention back to Violet, leaning in slightly as the others moved off. "Come to me tonight. I need to inspect you properly."

A soft giggle escaped Violet's lips, her cheeks turning a shade of crimson as she nodded. "Yes, sir."

Among the group, Matt was the only one who caught this subtle exchange. He observed Syverson giving Violet's hand a gentle squeeze before he walked away. The unspoken dynamics between them were evident. Matt comprehended what Violet had been trying to convey, that their connection wasn't just about physical intimacy; there were deeper emotions at play. And, truthfully, he wasn't certain which aspect was more complicated. All he knew was that it couldn't be good for their group either way.

The group worked in near silence, the weight of their situation causing tension to fill the air as night deepened. Exhaustion settled upon them, and the dynamics among them began to shift as they faced the harsh reality of their circumstances.

After their tasks were done, everyone retreated to their beds. Violet, however, held back. She moved quietly through the building, her steps deliberate and unobtrusive. She entered Syverson's room, finding him seated on the bed wearing only his underwear, engrossed in a book illuminated by a small reading light. Closing the door with a gentle click, she caught his gaze as he set the book aside, leaving the dim light on.

"Come here," he softly commanded, his arms open to her. She undressed down to her panties, the dim light casting a soft glow over her. Crawling onto the bed beside him, she nestled against his chest. They remained in this intimate silence, a cocoon of calm in the midst of their tumultuous surroundings. The only audible sounds were the gentle rise and fall of their breaths, binding them together in shared solace.

Overall Rating: 9.7/10

Personal Opinion: A very wholesome story about a lonely boy trying to survive his first year of realizing he’s queer. It’s realistic without being gloomy. It’s sweet without being tooth-achingly so. I appreciate everything that this story is meant to represent and I adore the budding relationship between Jeremy and Evan. It is just so cute.

Do I Own This Book? Nope.

Spoilers Below For My Likes & Dislikes:

Likes:

- Like with other middle-grade stories, I thoroughly enjoyed this for what it is. A book about a lonely kid that is trying to survive the very first year of realizing he’s queer. It’s cute, charming, and the relationship that blossoms between Jeremy and Evan is pure and beautiful. They’re on the cusp of being teenagers but they’re not teens yet. They’re still kids that play with plastic dinosaurs in a beach fort while speaking in a code of their own. It’s so wholesome and good.

- I commend Evan greatly for standing up to Jeremy’s father like that at Sandy’s Grille. That takes guts. But the fact that he was doing it to protect Jeremy was so sweet. And I love that Jeremy found his own courage after witnessing it.

- Becker is a surprisingly good character. He comes across as this dudebro manchild but he actually takes his work very seriously. He also cares about his family as evident by him coming home to take care of his brother and telling Jeremy “Right on” for liking guys. He doesn’t show up much but he’s a decent fellow.

- Evan’s grandmother Gloria is dating Mr. Sharma, that is so cute. I love old people finding love.

- Jeremy and Evan have such a realistic developing relation- ship to me. The initial timidity of a first crush, the lying (about running) to get closer to them, and the sharing of secrets. It’s just so wholesome.

Dislikes:

- I don’t get why Jeremy didn’t tell his dad the truth about getting caught with the tide on the Fourth. I get that he wanted to keep the confession part to himself but like, he literally has no reason to tell the whole truth to his dad. He just needed to tell a partial truth.

- Why is it different when Evan goes from friend to more than friend? It’s important to hang out with friends too! I’m not sure I’m explaining this properly. Okay, so, Jeremy’s dad got mad at Jeremy because Jeremy was spending all his time with his friend, Evan. When he found out Jeremy and Evan were more than friends, he wasn’t as angry anymore? I do not get it. Not that he had any right to be angry about it in the first place. I’m glad he realized and apologized for it (and Jeremy apologized for his part in sort of ignoring his dad) but I don’t know, I guess the relationship between Jeremy and his dad just felt icky to me. Maybe it’s because the dad’s alcoholism wasn’t ever directly addressed.
