I'll be honest, I think maybe the Foretellers would have been better received if they weren't sharing their screentime with the MoM.

Like, I see the Foretellers get called "boring" a lot (and I get why) but I feel like it's a little unfair to them when they're standing next to the MoM who is so overwhelmingly quirky, funny, expressive, and lively; it's hard not to read the Foretellers as humorless sticks-in-the-mud in comparison (which is probably the point, but still).

As well, we get very little time with the Foretellers and during that time we mostly see the Foretellers talking about and reacting to matters concerning their official responsibilities as Union leaders; I think it's understandable why they'd be mostly serious and no-nonsense throughout Back Cover, even if it doesn't make for the most entertaining/compelling character work.

And even then, I still think we get some interesting glimpses into the personalities and flaws of these characters via KHUX and Back Cover, especially with regards to how their qualities and behaviors sometimes contradict their first impressions.

Gula comes across as an edgy, detached loner teenager who Doesn't Care and doesn't need the help or friendship of others, but then by the end of Back Cover we see how much of a front this is, with him emotionally falling apart, begging for Ava's help, and trying to pull a dangerous stunt (summoning Kingdom Hearts) to, essentially, get his MoM to pay attention to him and come back to save him and his friends.

Ava comes across as the young, innocent, kind favorite who doesn't want to rock the boat or engage in any conflict, but she's also the one most involved in many of the mysterious and suspicious events that occur throughout KHUX, the one who attacks Luxu first out of anger, and the one who is implied to rebel against the MoM in various ways.

Aced, though undeniably big and strong and a little intimidating, still nonetheless comes across as someone kind and justice-oriented who genuinely cares about fairness and other people. By the time of the Keyblade War though, he is forming an army, voicing his intentions to overthrow the other Foretellers, and trying to become a literal tyrant who rules with an iron fist.

Invi comes across as this cool-headed, logical, impartial, reliable type of person but is one of the first to openly accuse Aced of being the traitor with no evidence to back it up and even prioritizes Ira above all the others, being willing to spy on everybody else for his sake.

Ira is meant to be the leader, the one who takes care of everybody else and mediates disagreements, but instead he's the first to become suspicious of his own comrades almost immediately, and is the cause of the tension and conflict that arises amongst them.

(I watched Back Cover/KHUX again a couple months ago and I'm going off of memory here. I'm sure bigger Foreteller enjoyers than I could provide way more character analysis than just this. But the point is: I don't think the Foretellers are completely lacking in character or personality; in the very least there's some good groundwork here for future games to flesh them out even more.)

sometimes I think my love for KH is fading, because idk I don’t super care about scala ad caelum in missing link. And I get so lost in KHUX that I forget I only try to understand it because the series expects you to. But idk if I would have gotten into KH if it started off as X.

but then…

I remember everyone we saved in KH3… and the new dynamics we’ll see, like aqua and axel, or returning/grown dynamics, like terra and riku. But re:mind feels like forever ago, and KHMoM didnt give us that much. I just want more of the KH characters that got me into this series because I’m just tireeeed of always trying to understand “Okay, unchained this, unreality that, true darkness was whole but it wasnt but it was, (a – b)2 = a2 – 2ab + b2” like I didnt sign up to KH for the fucking astrophysics, I signed up because I liked the characters and I miss them!!!!!

Sometimes I look at khux and think "God if you were a standalone game you would be so fucking popular". Like, there are parts of the game I feel like tumblr at large would love. There would be so many people writing 4k word long analysis posts about Epheplayer or whatever. More fun MoM facts!

There are many instances of the MoM using tildes in his speech, particularly when he's joking/teasing. I'm disappointed that the localization did nothing to preserve them, since I feel like their frequent use was a hint to his identity. And it's cute.

Whether or not you believe that he has any connection to Jack from Agito XIII - although you should, because he does - it's something they have in common.

From the Final Fantasy Type-0 World Preview book:

The inflection he places on the words at the ends of his sentences with a tilde (~) demonstrates his “nonchalance.” He has incredible mental strength, shown in the way he maintains the same attitude no matter what type of opponent he faces.

They thought this information was important enough to add to the page about the character. It's his thing.

Even more fun facts!

Unless MoM's having a serious moment, he talks like an airheaded teenager, often ending sentences with the addition of し. Demyx does this a lot. It's not an odd thing to do unless it's a habit. There's nothing like this in English, but I guess the closest comparison I can think of would be like when someone has the habit of ending their sentences with the inflection of a question when it isn't necessary. (Like this? You know how it sounds when someone does this?? all the time??)

I found a blog where someone gave their own example:

This word is somewhat informal, and used less (if at all) in polite Japanese (敬語). Also, it doesn’t have a very intellectual image to it. For example, there is a Japanese TV celebrity by the name of Rola (ローラ) who frequently speaks with this expression and draws out the し sound. Although I think it is all an act, her character is very ditzy and seems like she has a two-digit IQ. So when you are using し, make sure to not overly draw out that sound, unless you're a young girl and want to project that sort of image. (:

What I'm saying is, the localization needs to make MoM sound younger and dumber.

Does Jack do this? Sometimes. It would make sense for him to talk like this, but he doesn't do it often. This one is a MoM & Demyx exclusive.

Many times. I have old outlines for some, including lore for my KHUX character. Maybe I never really shared it because in a way, they were real and hanging out with guild doing raids.

Sometimes I still think about my time playing KHUX. I still know one person that was in that group. @cindiquilsnivy

On my 7th re-read of Dandelion Seeds and finally made it to the epilogue and it got me a bit curious, when writing for the Khux characters (or original characters) do you have a set sexuality for them, or is it more aro/ace until proven otherwise (I do that to all my characters when writing lol)? I know you wrote in characters like Meili and they have 2 partners (and remember Mimir feeling some type of way about it) and I was just wondering is all.

Technically I have sexualities in mind for all of them, but in practice I tend to lean more towards "aro/ace until proven otherwise," haha. (And what I use for the canon cast will sometimes change between stories, depending on if there's a particular relationship I think would be interesting. Though, uh, that hasn't really shown up much, at the moment.) At least for the KHUX crew, though, this is generally what I have in mind:

Gonna just drop a read more here 'cause if y'all know me at all you know this post is probably gonna be 10KM long lol

So, I'm gonna try to hold myself back a little because I literally have like 10 pages of notes about specifically stuff in the backgrounds and I doubt the internet will find my bench and lamppost count interesting. (Also image limit lol)

I'll list just 4 things for now (in no particular order) and talk about them a bit underneath.

NUMBER 1 || STREET SIGNS

So there are four street signs that we’ve seen in Daybreak Town. Two are in the Fountain Square (A and B), one is in the Marketplace (C), and one is in the Clocktower Outskirts map (D).

For B and D it’s pretty easy to figure out what the represent. B is a clock, probably representing the Clock Tower… or maybe the best place to see the Clocktower because it’s in Fountain Square. The overall shape of it is different from the rest of the signs so I imagine that means something. D is a gondola or canoe of some sort, which makes sense because it’s next to stairs that seemingly lead to the canal that runs through town. Maybe there’s a ferry system of some sort?

A and C I’m less sure about. The designs don’t really bring anything obvious to mind. Maybe C is Munny because it leads to the Marketplace? I’m not sure.

NUMBER 3 || DOOR UNDER FOUNTAIN SQUARE

See what makes this interesting to me isn’t just the fact that apparently Fountain Square is hollow underneath (maybe for pipe repairs or something, I don’t know) but just the general fact that a lot of structures in this town, that maybe shouldn’t be, are hollow.

If you look even some archways have windows, so there has to be an open space inside, right? Most of them seem at least connected to houses so I assume they’re basements or something. (The one by murder house gets me tho, like that’s right under the bridge. Who’s living right under the bridge)

And I also feel like this leads into the fact that, similarly but not as extreme as in Scala, Daybreak Town is kinda built on top of itself. Maybe that’s a symptom of being around so many (and possibly on) mountains but I still feel like it should be talked about more.

NUMBER 4 || LIGHTHOUSE INTERIOR MAP

There is so much to unpack here but I’ll try to keep it brief.

So I’m pretty sure this is one of, if not the oldest building in Daybreak Town. Two reasons.

1. Instead of having little wall lamps, like the rest of the town and buildings, all the light seems to come from mounted candles.

2. There are swords (A) on the walls and not Keyblades. Why would the Keyblade town not have Keyblades on its little shield emblem? Is it possibly because it was there before Keyblades?

This staircase here (B) is also the only known (not sewer drain) way into the waterways. It leads into the sewers then out to the little dock below the Lighthouse with the boat, hence the sign.

There’s these maps here (C) that I don’t really know what to say about, but is definitely worth pointing out. They’re all the same and I assume show the layout of the area surrounding the town (the darker parts being water). It could be a world map though (darker part being continents)… I don’t think we’ll ever really learn lol

And also I don’t know what this is (D) but I think it’s interesting that it has writing on it. It kinda gives me the vibe of those flat on the ground gravestones…

NUMBER 5 || BANNER

Daybreak Town actually has a flag it’s all over the place and you’ll start to see it everywhere if you look for it. They also kind of look like the banners in Radiant Garden. The colours and shape/mounting are the same but the designs on the flag itself (and mounting) is different.

I have no clue what that implies, if anything, but I figure it’s worth pointing out ‘cause it’s interesting.

I keep fighting between Brain or Eph being the head archivist but I'm going to say Brain fits better

Brain is the head archivist of the Institute. He was led to the Institute due to the disappearance of his sister, Ava, who used to work as an archival assistant and he wants answers

He's like Jon in the sense that he acts like he doesn't believe in the supernatural but he does. He is the strongest believer of the gang

Everyone thought Eph would take over the position after everyone fricking disappeared. Eph isn't too bothered by just being an assistant. It gives him the same full access to the archives but less work then Brain so he was plenty of time for his own investigations

Skuld and Lauriam also were transferred down to the archives. Lauriam then helped his sister brother get a job down there as well.

The foretellers were the previous team

Idk if the mom would be the eye or take Elias's place. Or if Luxu should be Elias or the former archivist. Idk

Elrena doesn't work there she just lives with Lauriam. She asks him about Strel and he has no idea what shes talking about

Brain is of course an Avatar of the Beholding. He gets all the same powers that Jon does

Eph would be an avatar of the lonely. He is a ghostly boy and a loner in chi so I think it's fitting

Skuld would be a victim of the lonely but an avatar of the vast. She was lonely in khux but I'm just thinking of vast Skuld. She can feed people to the sky

Yeah so Ven totally took Strels place. So he's with the circus. I know Ven wasn't actually evil in khux but like it's too perfect. This also means that Strel is dead. But. Sometimes we have to make sacrifices

Lauriam would be an avatar of the desolation after learning that his sister got snatched.

Elrena would probably be an avatar of the slaughter or the hunt Idk. She gives me jude vibes though so maybe she would also be desolation

The player can be the Georgie stand in idk

Not the same anon who asked you to kill the excess characters, but after seeing your tags - could you possibly give some examples of characters you would remove and/or consolidate multiple into one character?? I’m curious to know your thoughts now!

These are probably gonna sound like hot takes but honestly sometimes I feel like 13 members in (both) Organization XIII is too many members. The best example I can think of is a theoretical world where Marluxia and Larxene one combined character instead of being two. Like…if you really think about it, Marluxia-Larxene could’ve just been one very cold and snarky member keeping Namine hostage and goading Sora on in CoM rather than two, and it would’ve had the same effect. This goes for Lauriam and Elrena too, especially since Elrena sadly doesn’t have a very big role in khux.

I can even say that despite loving him a lot, Blaine’s character and role could’ve been added/consolidated into Ephemera since they have a lot of similarities/overlap as characters. Smart, inquisitive, friends with Ava. Ephemera even gets master’s defender and the book from him in the end so…why not just let him have those from the beginning?

I also feel like there didn’t have to be so many upperclassmen in Dark Road, especially since they all get killed off…

damn I feel bad saying these things cause I feel like I’m not explaining it well. It’s hard. This is not to say that I think kh would be better without certain characters. Basically I just get where anon is coming from. I sort of have this problem with other media too, where it feels like they just keep introducing more and more new characters rather than expanding on the ones that already exist (lookin at you anime!). It’s like filling up 8 glasses of water half full when you should be filling up 4 glasses completely full.

tl;dr Sometimes, less is more.

Kingdom Hearts (Homestuck) Classpecting Part 2; And Another Thing

Welcome back to another episode of undersleeping and overthinking. In the first episode, we released a brainless torrent of classpects and the foundation of how they were chosen. Kinda. There are definitely some in there had too little to properly classpect and others...IDK man I simply cannot enter the headspace needed to dissect every line of Xaldin/Dillan or Luxord's dialogue for multiple interpretations that could lead to a more comprehensive psyche profile. Sigurd: Knight of Light I don't actually have a lot to say about this guy, I just ran out of tag space in the previous post lmao. Knights have this thing about vulnerability which is usually on visual or thematic display; shrouded faces, long sleeves, sunglasses and whatnot. They also tend to start pretty proficient in wielding their aspect. They are also more than happy to use their aspect to serve another or a greater cause. Seeing how he was introduced in KHUX, it is easy to see that for now, Sigurd is our Lore Guide...and maybe actually Luxord just saying. Master of Masters: Muse of Time Excluding all theories and just using what we know, he's giving void because it's surprisingly so little despite his impact. I think that could also be chalked up by being a Muse class; while this doesn't mean anything because typology wise master classes don't say anything about a person, considering his background and story that is kind of the point. He became Master of Masters - or the muse (master) class - because of events in his life. I think that in itself is just time player shenanigans. Time players have really strong and stonelike keywords that make them feel more tightly bound to their aspect in rigid ways than most. Master of Masters was definitely some other class and maybe aspect before, but gave that up-and maybe even who he is as a person- for his current objective. Hayner: Thief of Void Hey man check out this little dude. He doesn't get as much credit as he should for the ability to 1. Go with the flow when it comes to the insane bullshit Kingdom Hearts sometimes brings but from the perspective of someone 97% uninvolved and 2. Throw down with someone clearly out of his weight class. He is iconic and therefore thief. And no, he isn't void because he is irrelevant; his relationship with information-an aspect of light- does give a push and pull quality to him. But where a thief of light would increasingly pull more and more information until they achieve a relevancy in themselves, a void would literally take the information as it comes to them and work within their limited relevancy. Sterlitzia: Rogue of Rage: Rage gets a lot of bad rep for just being full of negative keywords; strife, struggle, tension, madness, and literally negative emotions and whatnot, but remember aspects are not bound to their most obvious connotations. Pining is a kind of struggle, and what is puppy love if not a certain kind of madness? All jokes aside, rogues feel like the type of class that takes the keywords of their aspect, reduce them to their most beneficial forms, and distributes them with the intentions of gaining a net positive. But I also believe rogues often tend to have a lot of eyes on them much like the thief, but usually with consequences. KHUX Player Character: Bard of Hope Hate to say this but player character's post KHUX story is hitting a bit too far home with Gamzee's. I know MY dear player character would never become a destiny fanatic, so they have me fucked up, but the fact that there is an arc that we don't see that leads player down this stalwart path hints to this being some sort of bard awakening. But whereas Gamzee what disillusioned by the idea of destiny and prophecy, player character literally gained a new life in it.

Ephemer: Witch of Breath Witches are a class that likes to operate outside the grid and think outside the box. They aren't often held down by conventional thinking and circumstances, so they are the best when it comes to utilizing the amount of control their class gives to them, but in a very specialized self-serving way. Ephemer isn't necessarily what we would normally see as good friend material; first he stands you up, then he hits up your dreams to ask you to bail him out of reality jail. I could really see him being a hope or breath aspect, but to me he leans more breath as conceptualizing him as a hope player also tends to spill into aspects of blood, but as a breath player, everything is still within the realm of breath and it's mirror aspect. Speaking of hope... Baldr: Maid of Hope Maid characters are thought to serve their power and are also a pun on the word "made", meaning that they are their powers. An aspect of both rage and hope is establishing a belief system that is healthy for you based on external forces; where rage often deeply understands these external forces, sees their critical weaknesses, and tries to rise above them, hope tends to start as naive to them and are challenged to find their own truth with what they have. Baldr's knowledge about the nature of hearts, light, and darkness was lacking and flawed. The things that are internally his hope took on these flaws, so he had to create an external ideal of the hope in his sister, only for that to be taken from him leaving him to rely on the hope he internalized. And why not just not give in to that power? Because he is a maid of it; that is who he is as a person. Take care of your hope players, y'all, as they can get really scary when misguided... Brain: Seer of Mind Seers are a fun class where they know their aspect and want to master it at the risk of some sort of peril; sometimes from their aspect or the mirror of their aspect, and sometimes just because of their own tunnel vision. They are one of the more explicitly characterized classes so you know one when you see them; a know-it-all and maybe even a little bit arrogant who isn't afraid to get unethical or harm themselves to reach a goal. While Brain has mostly been shown in a positive note, I can't help but feel with the information given to us at the end of KHUX, knowing he is involved in Missing Link, and knowing it is set before Dark Road sets things up for an equally dark path. Brain feels to me as strong of a blood player as his potential as a mind player. Ultimately I believe the difference is whether or not you consider whatever the events he is involved in are the appropriate path for him or not. Am I going to clarify which is which and what is my stance? No, because if I don't I cant be wrong, silly. Eraqus: Knight of Mind This guy was a little tricky for me to type at first, but ultimately I figured him out before Brain and it just may be a bit of a coincidence that they fall in the same aspect...maybe. Mind and heart both are aspects that involve the concept of making choices for people; mind from an ideological standpoint and one from a personalized standpoint. Mind is more about concepts like karma, justice, actions and their consequences, and moral choices. First instinct would tell you that Eraqus did a terrible job at all that, and as a knight, that should be his thing, right? But like Baldr, he was operating out of a system lacking critical information and perhaps was even fed misleading information. However, as a Knight, he still devoted himself to the service of what he knew. The knight of mind is a very dangerous classpect to have so much going wrong like things were in Dark Road, and that culminated to the events of Birth By Sleep. Also knight of mind is a jedi and he is voiced by mark hamill. jk but it is still funny. Tune in next time where we cover more bbs characters and probably some more tragedies alongside them. What made you decide on the pokemon the boys would have in each iteration? Hare and Kuro make sense with their themes but what about the other pokemon?

((Which pokemon a character should have has been a contingency in the fandom for a while, and everyone has their suggestions and theories. My justifications have always been based on three main motifs: color palette themes, lore connections, and character association.

In the previous iteration of this blog, I I focused a lot on their canon summons or connections- e.g. Sora had pokemon to represent Pooh, Ariel, Simba, Stitch, and then a few I just felt fit his personality and character and Riku had "dawn" based pokemon like Dusk Lycanroc, Noyvern, etc--For this one, I wanted to limit the amount of pokemon that each trainer had to more fit in with how Legends Arceus did things.

I had teased a meow-wow like pokemon (Scalean Variants, I call them) since Sword/Shield had just been released when the original blog was written, so I thought why not make a komory equivalent? I'm uncertain if I'll give any of the other characters additional pokemon-as it's a little time consuming and I forget they exist half the time LOL

Hare and Kuro were always the base-because Sun/Moon Light/Darkness- but what you'll notice is most of the others have Chirithy-like critters since that's all they have in KHUX. Otherwise it's based on thematic connections (like the Samurott for Eraqus and Xehanort getting a goat pokemon). AND SOMETIMES it's just cause I feel like it/think it would be cute-like Ephemer with Sylveon XD

TL;DR-I do what I want, but there's always some reason behind it :P ))
