First, the head pat left Oliver a little surprised for a moment, and then there were some offers that he simply couldn't believe were being made. This party host... wanted him, of all people, to come around the manor more? To have a tea party and maybe even teach him about baking too...? He was blinking a few times in surprise, his eyes a little wide afterwards.

But after taking a small breath to compose himself, he gave a shy but friendly smile to Barnaby, rubbing a wing behind his head some more. It's clear that he's getting a little bashful, his voice a little quiet.

Why, that all... sounds absolutely delightful. I... I'd be glad to come around more...

He then coughed a bit, giving a little shake afterwards that fluffed him up a bit as he let on a wider smile - all in an effort to keep his cool in the midst of all this. And seeing that little blep made him chuckle a bit and helped him relax too.

But yes, a tea party is such a grand idea! I'd be sure to bring some of my best sweets for the occasion. And oh, to teach you more about baking! That would be an absolute honor, my good friend. I have a whole book of recipes we could pull from as well! Oh, maybe we could make my poisonbe- I-I mean, boysenberry cupcakes for our first little baking voyage. Or we could do whatever recipe your heart desires. It would be such fun, don't you think?

Ok so.. I’ve been at work today and listening to my music an 80s song called me to draw Uli, with the disco colors from earlier, but @cardverse-royality-and-rouges suggested him on a motorcycle, then i picked specifically a 1984 Kawasaki Ninja, which i relied on this a lot haha.

But yea 80’s Uli on an international trip riding a motorcycle accidentally becoming a muse for artists or whatever, it’s a silly idea but it’s mine now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyway it’s here now so have fun with that idea

Sexuality Headcanon: I see him as being homosexual, in the way that a homosexual neighborhood mom adopts every queer child within a 14 block radius. He’s got the pins, the flags, and so so proud! Monogamous, he’s very VERY devoted to the one he loves, and it would take no less than the world ending to jeopardize that loyalty.

Gender Headcanon: He/him fluid

A ship I have with said character: can’t help but ship him with Arthur, your muses just have such great chemistry! Plus i see those simping hours

A BROTP I have with said character: I’ve enjoyed a lot for interactions I’ve seen with Oliver! I think it’s a tie for Alfred and Francis? They just seem to mesh well in a playful way while still feeling well flushed out and comfortable

A random headcanon: I’m not sure if it has any basis in reality, but i feel like he loves to teach others how to bake, and might do weekly baking lessons at any given senior center / community He just seems so patient and bubbly, I love to imagine him just gladly teaching those who are disadvantaged how to bake?? It just vibes so hard in my brainspace.

General Opinion over said character: I have only had Oliver for 15 minutes and if anything happened to him i would kill everyone in this room and then myself. He’s so smol! But he’s also got a great wit and sass! Like, he’s such a well balanced muse, i love how you portray him!! It is always a pleasure to see how he interacts with those around him. There’s just a really powerful charm, and warmth to him, like even when he seems a bit exasperated, there’s no sense that he’s going to snap, or break over it, but like he’s genuinely considering what brought any given encounter to this point.

OC Bio:   Alexandria “Dria” Ramsey

Age: 29

 Height: 5’6”

 Appearance: Brown eyes, olive skin, white hair that is very curly and used to be long, but the southern climate convinced her to cut it short.  Small breasts and wide hips.  Earlobes pierced once.  No tattoos or scars.  Dria is fond of dyeing her hair wild colors, and favors a slightly funkier style of dress than us usual in St. Martinville: harem pants, sandals and loose gauzy tank tops in the summer, hand crocheted tunics, leggings, and Doc-Martens she painted herself in the winter, for example.

Occupation:  Dria is a professional artist, and had some success in NYC before she moved to Louisiana. She still sends her work to a gallery in NYC, and travels there several times a year for shows.

 Hobbies:  She likes to bake, crochet, bellydance (her mother was a professional and taught her,) and can occasionally be persuaded to read Tarot cards for a few carefully selected individuals.  And when she does, she is frighteningly accurate.  

 Known associates:  Her cat, Dickens.  He appeared on her doorstep the day she moved to St. Martinville and made himself at home.

(In most RPs, he is a flerkin, but for the Southerngothic AU, he is an unusually intelligent cat)

 History:  Dria grew up in a very small town in the Midwest.  When she was eighteen, her parents were killed in a car accident: her father lost control of the car and it went through the guard rail and into a lake.  Dria was in the backseat, and an off-duty firefighter managed to pull her out of the car but she was clinically dead for at least two minutes before they got her heart started again.   The experience left her with white hair, a fear of deep water, and a gift for precognition that takes the form of visions, or overwhelmingly strong hunches, occasionally dreams.   At first, the visions were rare and not terribly obtrusive, but when she moved to NYC, they started getting stronger and more frequent.  Her career flourished but she grew increasingly anxious and stressed.   By the time she met Amelia, on a vacation to Louisiana, Dria was having difficulty coping.  Amelia helped her come to terms with her talent, and the slower pace of life in Louisiana seemed to slow down the visions as well.   Dria decided to move to St. Martinville, and she’s been a resident for several years.

 Personality:  Dria is still cautious around deep water, but several years of therapy has taken the edge off her phobia.   She is quiet around most people, but that doesn’t mean she’s meek: her ability to tell people ‘no’ and to make it stick has surprised more than one person who sought to take advantage of her good nature. Her sense of humor has also caught a few people off guard.  Around people she trusts, she relaxes her guard and can be very goofy.  She is also sweet, kind, supportive, and accepting of other people’s differences. Amelia is the only one who knows about Dria’s precognitive abilities, but other people have noted that she seems to have an instinct about people’s intentions towards her. So far as her love life goes, she’s gone out with one or two of the local men, but hasn’t really clicked with anyone, so it’s never gone any further than a couple of dates.  Dria jokes with Amelia that her chastity belt is pinching her, but she also isn’t willing to settle for casual sex.  Her parents’ marriage was not a happy one, so she is doubly determined not to let loneliness persuade her to lower her standards.  She knows her worth.

 Quirks:   Dria doesn’t drink alcohol—she just doesn’t care for the taste.  She does drink Coca Cola, and occasionally coffee, but it’s more like melted coffee ice cream. When she’s upset or angry, she bakes bread, because she can take her frustrations out on the dough. She likes to buy her clothing from small businesses and artists at craft fairs, so her wardrobe is eclectic.  She only wears skirts on special occasions, and in her own home, she is usually barefoot.

My Time at Pitti Uomo 97

Last week I had the opportunity to go to Pitti Uomo 97 in Florence with the Styleforum crew. My job was photographer: I shot street style for the Styleforum Journal, and also basically whatever else Arianna (the editor of the Journal) or Fok (the owner of Styleforum) wanted me to shoot. That included following Peter (@urbancomposition, who I thought of as our “talent”) around and shooting his various meetings with people and appointments with brands. It also included documenting the podcasts they recorded with several special guests. Eva Kuhle, owner of Epaulet, was also there working with us, but also to do her own recon work for her shop in LA.

It was a spectacular week that exceeded my expectations in every way. The crew all worked extremely well together; everybody I met was exceptionally friendly; the brands and makers we talked to were super cool; the events were fantastic; and the unlimited negroni’s at Harry’s Bar for the WM Brown party were delicious.

At the end of the first day. Shot by @urbancomposition. Wearing the 18 East Trekking turtleneck, Polo RL navy polo coat, Sid Mashburn natural denim and snuff suede chukkas from Meermin.

For me, going with an established crew like that was ideal, since I’d never been. It allowed me to be introduced to people through Peter, brought along to appointments to meet makers like Akshat and Varvara of 100 Hands, and also to have a defined job to do to structure my day and fill any downtime I had.

I had a little bit of doubt before going—confident but uncertain. Plus I was taking a new camera body I’d never shot fast-paced action with before (the very affordable full-frame mirrorless Canon RP). All of those doubts melted away as soon as I saw the photos on the first morning. Pitti is great, I discovered, because everybody there has an established rising-tide-lifts-all-boats mentality where everybody is tagging everybody and re-sharing everybody’s photos on Instagram. So the first afternoon, Simon Crompton of Permanent Style reposted one of my photos to his 130,000 followers, and boom, we were off to the races. The rest of the week, some of the most stylish dudes there liked my images and requested to repost them—Kenji Cheung of Brycelands, David Coggins, Jake Grantham of Anglo-Italian, Buzz Tang from Anthology, and others. It’s a virtuous cycle of mutually beneficial promotion for each other and it was very gratifying to see my work not only turn out well (a personal assessment) but to also have it be recognized and appreciated by others.

Highlights from the week include the great parties thrown: Plaza Uomo’s party Tuesday night, where I met several new people (shout out Philippe, Andreas, Matt and Justin); The WM Brown party at Harry’s Wednesday night, where the Negronis flowed freely; The Styleforum private dinner that same night, where about 20 people from SF-affiliated companies enjoyed a five-course dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant; Also the podcast recording sessions, where really great guys like Ethan Newton, Simon Crompton and Milad Abedi (plus several more, that’s not all) stopped in to give their thoughts to Peter and Eva on various subjects. I also got to meet the people behind two of my favorite tailoring shops, both out of Hong Kong—Anthology and Prologue. We met Buzz and his crew (including excellent photographer Charlie) from Anthology for breakfast and a nice chat one morning, and met up with Jerry and Chiwang from Prologue for a chat and to get measured.

And Pitti couldn’t be in a more lovely city. Florence, my wife’s and my favorite Italian city, was charming as always. Peter and I had a killer view from our Airbnb right onto the Piazza del Duomo. Being essentially a Medieval city, everything is walkable in Florence—10 minutes to the Fortezza where Pitti is held, 10 minutes to the other apartment where we recorded the podcasts, 10 minutes to Harry’s Bar. There were lights strung all about the city streets as well, making the walks home after dark magical. The weather was excellent, above freezing at night and sunny Wednesday on.

The third day. Gun club “Lorenzo” sport coat and washed chambray Marcus work shirt, both by Eidos, Mughal print scarf by Drake’s, Ashland olive five pocket pants by Billy Reid, snuff suede Meermin chukkas.

After Pitti was over, I took a personal trip up north to Bergamo for the weekend. The headquarters of the Italian branch of my church are there. Our head pastor and his wife embodied perfect Italian hospitality, and we enjoyed a leisurely weekend, including a wonderful afternoon and lunch at Lake Iseo with a group of church members (get the baked bass at Il Buco in Iseo, it is incredible).

I’m organizing everything from buying a new vacuum to inviting potential new tenants when someone is moving out, I cook the most so I recently started cooking once a week for whoever’s there and wants food, I tidy up a lot, help one out becuase of language barriers, remind them of their chores and so on. I never want to be an actual mom, though, unless I decide to adopt in the future. In the FAR future.

3. TOP THREE PHYSICAL THINGS YOU FIND ATTRACTIVE ON A PERSON: Eyes, I guess. And hands, lol. It’s really strange. Nice tattoos, too.

4. A FOOD YOU COULD EAT FOREVER AND NOT GET BORED OF: Noodles. I fucking love noodles. Especially self-made ones.

5. A FOOD YOU HATE: Olives.

6. GUILTY PLEASURE: Eavesdropping. I don’t gossip about whatever I hear and I probably forget most of the things I hear anyway but I like knowing things, I guess.

STRANGE FACT ABOUT YOURSELF: I have an extra half a vertebra in my lumbar spine, bigger on the left side, that makes my back less stable and more susceptible to pain and injury, and part of the reason I had to change my career from being a surgical technologist was because of that wear and tear.

3. TOP THREE PHYSICAL THINGS YOU FIND ATTRACTIVE ON A PERSON: ...I really don’t know how to answer this. Attraction is so finicky for me, and “aesthetically pleasing” really just depends on the person. I guess all I can say is the most identifiable “type” of person I’d be attracted to are sort of...waifish women? Maybe Scandinavian features, IDK. Something vaguely similar to Anya Taylor-Joy’s soft looks, any hair color.

4. A FOOD YOU COULD EAT FOREVER AND NOT GET BORED OF: Ice cream/shakes.

IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN THE PAST AND CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOUR LIFE, WOULD YOU AND WHAT WOULD IT BE: I might go back and pick sonography as my major first, instead of trying nursing school, getting psychologically abused and mistreated by nursing teachers, having a breakdown and quitting, getting a surgical technology degree after being treated poorly by teachers/students/staff, quitting surgical tech work after 3 years due to depression/anxiety and physical strain, then coming back to school for a third time with past healthcare-school trauma and trying to get a bachelor’s in sonography. Then again, I learned a whole lot--educationally, about life, about the behaviors and cultures of healthcare workers, and about how people are--in those other schools/professions, so I’m not sure that’s worth giving up? I’d be very much richer right now, though, and not dependent on family or in debt. Plus, surgical technology is actually really cool (and still very much a passion of mine), and I don’t want to give those experiences and memories up. So maybe I’d just nix the nursing school, do surgical tech for a few years, and then go for sonography. Who knows, man; life and its consequences are so unpredictable.

10. ARE YOU AN AFFECTIONATE PERSON: Probably not. I am very sensitive to rejection if I’ve been honest or vulnerable, so I usually only gush over people I trust and honestly feel that way about.

11. A MOVIE YOU COULD WATCH OVER AND OVER AGAIN: I really don’t know if there’s any like that for me?? But I guess The Signal is a movie I like to show people and watch with them, because many haven’t seen it, and I find it fascinating. I also love Tron Legacy a whole lot.

20. DO YOU SCARE EASILY: Depends. In real life, I’d say not really, but if you can find a way to trigger my imaginative paranoia, then maybe. I can’t play scary video games, because they make me way too tense, but I absolutely love watching other people play them, and I get very scared, especially by jumpscares (but in a fun way, LOL). I also love watching horror movies (though most are embarrassingly un-scary). I do not like jumpscares in movies. Cheap. I also love reading/hearing creepy stories that are presumably true (that’s usually what triggers my imaginative paranoia and puts me in a bad headspace, but whoops, still interesting to me).

21. IPHONE OR ANDROID: I’ve only ever had iPhone.

22. DO YOU PLAY ANY VIDEO GAMES: Yeah. I wish I played more, but I seem to procrastinate a lot on playing games for some reason, and I’m not that good besides. I prefer PC to consoles, and I have tons and tons of games on Steam (many that I haven’t gotten around to trying yet), but I also have a PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Games of note that I have played a decent bit are Zelda Breath of the Wild, Fallout 4, Skyrim, Darkest Dungeon, Smash, Saints Row 3 and 4, many of the Final Fantasy games... And a heck ton more, uh.

24. WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A MILLION DOLLARS: Pay off debts, share with family/friends, charity, invest in rich people stocks or whatever, and also live a nice-ass life. Honestly not sure if I’d quit working entirely...? I tend to get depressed if my life doesn’t have meaning like that. I have to give something back to the world. Besides, a million dollars literally lasts like under 20 years in normal circumstances...? That’s not something you retire on as a young person, unless you’re investing well...which I would need help figuring out how to do. I hate managing money.

It's murder upon a conscious, feeling, living being. But at the same time, humans are designed as omnivores, and surviving off of a plant-based diet is, sadly, extremely difficult. It's difficult to obtain the proper nutrients and their advised amounts to be healthy. Therefore, I can't confidently answer this question. I wish they didn't have to be, but human civilization would have an incredibly more difficult time continuing with all meat products removed for consumption. Does the technique used to kill an animal matter to you? I mean if I KNEW, yes, but at least from the research I've done, there's no real "humane" method used to kill livestock. Most live in awful conditions/are already unhealthy, too, and that should matter . Should farmers be allowed to cause suffering in animals to save money? Fuck off. Should production of medicines be justification to cause animals to suffer? No. We neeeeeeed to find other ways. Use pedophiles or some shit. But before he could respond, Oliver's eyes widened when he saw that stare from Barnaby. His mutual excitement turned into concern instantly, and he tilted his head a little as he watched Barnaby leave...

And when the owl came back, he raised a brow as his eyes shifted back and forth between Barnaby and the new ghost. He quickly pieced two and two together - between news of an unwanted, living guest and this new ghost floating around...

The fact that he hadn't seen a mortal yet at this party was a good indicator that this was normal for Barnaby and his parties. He looked away slowly, absorbing this information and trying to keep calm. He didn't want to judge - after all, Barnaby had been so delightful so far, and having the living and the dead together could be... interesting, to put it lightly. So being wary is understandable.

Despite the conclusions making him remember how he himself died, he kept it together to keep this blossoming friendship from falling.

First Character I ever RP'ed as, Anthony Rodriguez

He was a Mob type who got sent to the pen by taking the heat for his bosses kid after the guy tried to send his father drugs, in the pen he ended up getting approached by the FBI and on exchange for him turning on his former outfit they'd give him the chance of disappearing into the streets again, he accepted and ended up right back in the hands of his boss who managed to grease the wheels and fix the Judge he was put in front of, and the guy wasn't all to happy. Anthony was a former navy boxing champion who also did some less then legal work for the Mob on the side while he was in the service, and when he got out he went full time, and when he did so he burned bridges with his family and friends thanks to orders by his Boss to do so.
