Ah yes my favourite band, Kraftwerk: a man with a jaw I can perfectly fit a protractor to, tall angry seagull? Is he wearing mascara or does he really look that pretty, and a child.

We have checked a lot of pop music in the languages other than English to notice how the different countries' productions influenced the tunes and to observe the tongues don't matter much. Yes, this sounds weird, but check Kraftwerk to make my point clearer. I mean, they made most of their albums in two versions, i.e. German and English, though would they have needed to? While I would claim they were really sharp in their lyrics for their genre, the words they sang didn't resonate as much as their soundscapes. The tune in the link, for instance, has a stronger melancholy, if you ask me, in the original variant, yet both of the two editions remain quite sad thanks to the sonic environment that was so alien for the time. They hit their emotional beats thanks to their electronica.

For you <3 (this is not Heine obviously, but it was one of my favorites when I was little.)
Dunkel war’s der Mond schien helle,
Schneebedeckt die grüne Flur
als ein Wagen blitzeschnelle,
langsam um die Ecke fuhr
Drinnen saßen stehend Leute
schweigend ins Gespräch vertieft
als ein totgeschossener Hase
auf der Sandbank Schlittschuh lief
Und der Wagen fuhr im Trabe
rückwärts einen Berg hinauf
Droben zog ein weißer Rabe
grade eine Turmuhr auf
Und auf einer roten Bank
Die blau angestrichen war
Saß ein blond gelockter Jüngling
Mit kohlrabenschwarzem Haar.
Ringsumher herrscht tiefes Schweigen
und mit fürchterlichem Krach
spielten in des Grases Zweigen
zwei Kamele lautlos Schach
Und zwei Fische liefen munter
durch das blaue Kornfeld hin
Endlich ging die Sonne unter
und der graue Tag erschien
Droben auf dem Apfelbaume,
der sehr süße Birnen trug,
hing des Frühlings letzte Pflaume
und an Nüssen noch genug.
Dies Gedicht von Wolfgang Goethe
schrieb Schiller in der Abendröte
als er auf dem Nachttopf saß
und die Morgenzeitung las.
NOOOOOOO WHAT IS THIS??? GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!

Das besondere Gedicht
Osterspaziergang

Work:
Rehearsed for the show on piano
Continued my Industry Practice assessment
Play/Self-Care:
Went to McDonald's and got a Big Tasty meal with espresso
Returned some books to the Boots and Clifton libraries and got two more books from the former based on music and feminism, because International Women's Day
Speaking of...
It's World Book Day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The power of books is taking me away from the norms of reality, so much so, that I keep having to borrow and return them from the respective Boots and Clifton libraries. This is because I wanted to cover some research for the next assignment moving forward. But still, like the picture, there's more to life than books and that is my mental health priority.
I'm trying not to hold on to this anger when I have an outburst and the Wolfgang Flur talk has already been pulled just now; why do I care about Industry Week if I am on temporary suspension from uni? Maybe I wasn't taking constructive criticism properly.
Tumblr media
Word of advice:
Don't feel bad about constructive criticism because you're doing it to improve yourself and your grades when you want to take the next assignment. Constructive criticism is designed to help you get better at upcoming assessments and not get too stressed out about it
Let's start with a useful tip: We all know most brainy girls, both in real life and fiction, can learn from constructive criticism and not make them feel awful in any way. Rather than get angry at something wrong you've done in the past assessment, shrug it off and continue forth with the next one onward without throwing a major meltdown over one or multiple flaws you need to work on. If you've gotten furious over a simple mistake that you need fixing, you need to reconsider what you're thinking about in your head at this second because Rory Gilmore will not be pleased with how you react.

The Origins of Electronic Dance Music: A Journey Through Time and Technology
Tumblr media
Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is a cultural phenomenon that has taken the world by storm, emanating from underground clubs to music festivals that attract hundreds of thousands of people. While it is often viewed as a product of the late 20th and early 21st century, the roots of EDM can be traced back to much earlier periods. This article delves into the history and origins of this genre, focusing on technological innovations, key artists, and cultural shifts that have shaped EDM into what it is today.
A Pre-EDM Era: The Early Experiments
Long before the birth of EDM as we know it, there were experiments with electronic instruments in classical music and experimental genres. As early as the 1920s, Russian inventor Léon Theremin created the Theremin, an electronic instrument that is played without physical contact. In the 1950s, the rise of musique concrète, a genre utilizing manipulated tape recordings of natural sounds, demonstrated the potential for electronic manipulation in music (Holmes, Thom. "Electronic and Experimental Music: Technology, Music, and Culture." Routledge, 2008).
1960s and 1970s: Kraftwerk and Synthesizers
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, German band Kraftwerk set the foundation for electronic music by incorporating synthesizers into their performances (Flur, Wolfgang. "I Was a Robot." Sanctuary Publishing, 2000). The invention and mass-production of synthesizers like the Moog and later the Roland TB-303, which was introduced in 1982, provided musicians with tools to experiment with new sounds and textures (Vail, Mark. "The Synthesizer: A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding, Programming, Playing, and Recording the Ultimate Electronic Music Instrument." Oxford University Press, 2014).
Disco Fever and the Birth of House Music
In the late 1970s, the disco era was at its peak in the United States. Discotheques became a hub for experimentation with electronic sounds. One pivotal moment was in 1977 when Donna Summer's "I Feel Love," produced by Giorgio Moroder, was released. This track was revolutionary as it was entirely composed of synthesized sounds (Brewster, Bill & Broughton, Frank. "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life: The History of the Disc Jockey." Grove Press, 1999).
The decline of disco in the early 1980s led to the birth of house music in Chicago. The term "house" was derived from The Warehouse, a club where DJ Frankie Knuckles, the "Godfather of House," played (Rietveld, Hillegonda C. "This Is Our House: House Music, Cultural Spaces and Technologies." Routledge, 2013).
Techno's Rise in Detroit
Around the same time, techno emerged from the African American communities in Detroit. Inspired by the electronic sounds of Kraftwerk and local radio DJ The Electrifying Mojo, artists like Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson began producing a form of electronic music that was faster and had a more industrial feel (Sicko, Dan. "Techno Rebels: The Renegades of Electronic Funk." Wayne State University Press, 2010).
The UK Rave Culture and Acid House
The late 1980s witnessed the emergence of the rave culture in the United Kingdom. The Second Summer of Love in 1988–1989 saw the explosion of acid house, a sub-genre of house music. It was characterized by the heavy use of the Roland TB-303 for creating hypnotic and "squiggly" sounds (Collin, Matthew. "Altered State: The Story of Ecstasy Culture and Acid House." Serpent's Tail, 1997).
The 1990s: Diversity in Electronic Music
The 1990s marked the diversification of electronic music into multiple sub-genres like trance, drum and bass, and big beat, among others. Artists like The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, and Fatboy Slim popularized the big beat genre, which was characterized by breakbeats and synthesized loops (Butler, Mark J. "Unlocking the Groove: Rhythm, Meter, and Musical Design in Electronic Dance Music." Indiana University Press, 2006).
The Internet Era and Globalization
The internet and digital software like Ableton Live and FL Studio revolutionized the production and distribution of EDM. Sites like Napster and later, platforms like SoundCloud, allowed aspiring musicians to upload their tracks and reach a global audience without the need for record labels (McLeod, Kembrew. "MP3: The Meaning of a Format." Duke University Press, 2012).
The 2010s: The Rise of EDM Superstars
Artists like David Guetta, Skrillex, and Calvin Harris have brought EDM into mainstream pop culture, collaborating with pop and hip-hop artists and performing at large-scale music festivals like Tomorrowland and Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC).
Conclusion
The evolution of EDM is deeply intertwined with technological advancements and socio-cultural shifts. From its roots in experimental electronic music to its current status as a global phenomenon, EDM has not only transformed the musical landscape but has also become a vibrant culture of its own. As technology continues to advance, and as artists continue to push the boundaries, the future of EDM seems boundless.

From • @drewschlesinger KARL BARTOS / KRAFTWERK: It's Karl Bartos birthday and a pleasure to post about his amazing and transformational electronic drumming. He joined Kraftwerk in 1975 following Wolfgang Flur who joined in 1974 and together they created so many classic percussive electronica and just amazing sounds. The impact of their work cannot be overstated as it's still totally relevant today and echos across so many musical genres. So here's to two of my favorites human electro percussionist and happy birthday to Karl. #karlbartos #wolfgangflur #ralfhutter #florianschneider https://www.instagram.com/p/CeVuaM_jd1d3dbTSyuJdvTJ-4b9RMaHeVGWdBA0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
