Random 2023 BL Awards I made up

Best use of music in a BL:

I was going to just blanket statement say Only Friends, and then I was thinking, wait, was anything more touching than Khaotung sobbing his way through "The Moon Represents My Heart" in Moonlight Chicken...and then I decided that the best use of music was the use of Conan Gray's "The Story" in The Eighth Sense. It was an absolute banger of a use of diegetic music, and every time I hear the song now I think about that absolute monster kiss.

I'm still not in the forgiving mood that nobody warned me Zo is sick and Three/Thi is gonna be a sad sad man if his boy ain't well next episode.

They are the perfect Green Group = Blue Boy + Yellow/Orange Oddity, so our boy better be okay!

Sidenote: I noticed Zo is wearing the same sweater as Cher does in the OST video. Balls of sunshine must stand united!

But I think the color gods heard my prayers because the reds and greens were minimal in episode five of A Boss & A Babe because after getting kicked out of his own bed (with Cher in his blue),

Gun is living his best Blue Boy life

Even when he is upset after his meeting with Thyme/Time, he is still about that blue life and shows up to Cher's apartment.

He is out of his blue only twice, but one is blue-adjacent (it's green, I know it's green, but he is struggling with his emotions for Cher since Cher hasn't said how he feels, and green is USUALLY used for confusing emotions), and he has a blue tie on with the red shirt, so I'm counting no L's for this episode!

Cher, unlike Gun, was lost this episode, with Gun's blue over his heart.

Yet he came back to his yellow. He got advice from his friends, but if you ask me, Jack is actually rooting for them because he has the blue and yellow.

Jack and Porsche could team up to lead the Green Group Gang to support their beloved Blue Boy + Yellow/Orange Oddity

Because even though next week, when Cher spends the night at Gun's, he'll be in their colors, wearing blue bottoms and an orange top...

Cher and Gun need a little push to get (it) together, and the universe is already working OVERTIME to show these two they belong together (the color of the drinks)

Finally, although Gun hasn't worn Cher's color, he keeps offering Cher's color to him.

I. Coming of age (ไม่ปล่อยมือ) Ost from I Promised You the Moon by Bilkin and PP Krit

This will always be my favorite song. It is one of my ringtones and I use it as an alarm. I just love the way Pp and Bilkin sang this. It’s so so good 😍 IPYTM is better than ITSAY. I said what I said.

II. Unable (สิ่งเดียวที่ไม่ยอม) ost from Be My Favorite by Gawin Caskey

This song just idk what it was. I loved it from the second I heard the teaser. I am obsessed with it. I love Gawin’s voice and I love how lovey dovey and painful the song is. It’s both. Both is good.

III. Closer (ไม่ไกลหัวใจ) Ost. Cupid's Last Wish by Mix Sahaphap and Earth Pirapat

This is a tricky one because I actually did not enjoy Cupid’s Last Wish nearly as much as I wanted to. This song is super catchy though and I really enjoy listening to it. Plus Earthmix are special to me lol

IV. Just Being Friendly (เพื่อนเล่น ไม่เล่นเพื่อน) by Tilly Birds

I don’t even remember how I found this song, but I was listening to it so much and then Nunew covered it on Cutiepie and I was like 😍😍😍 Then we got it again in My School President. It’s such a cute song. I love it so much.

V. REDO (ย้อนเวลา) Ost. Be My Favorite by Krist Perawat

Everything about this show has been amazing. I love the music. I love the characters. I love the way they are telling the story. This song is so upbeat and catchy. I love it.

here's the extremely biased recap of my 2023 in dramaland:

also, happy holidays and merry christmas to all who celebrate!!

favorite drama: Because I can never pick just one and I know, it's a weird combination lol:

Moving (kdrama) Perfect, from beginning to end. Breaks your heart and heals it at the same time. Delivers on action, plot, family and romance. SO much romance.

Dr Romantic (kdrama) saw S2&S3 back to back. If you're in pain, you only need Teacher Kim and the Doldam team.

My School President (thai drama) still obsessed with the ost till now. A simple coming-of-age love story, executed perfectly. On par with Heartstopper. There, I said it.

I spent my time rewatching instead of making posts about any of these lol

Favorite Male lead: Jang ShinYu (Destined with you, kdrama). Excuse you, that show had 99 problems, but Rowoon wasn't one of them.

Runner Up: Seo Woojin (Dr. Romantic, kdrama).

Favorite female lead: I'm gonna be honest, I think they did dirty most female leads, especially in Korea, but the women from Dr. Romantic were all exceptional. So they're my pick.

Favorite OTPs: DoHa&YoungHwa (Moon in the Day, kdrama). ALL the ships in Moving. TinnGun (My School President, thai drama). KiHo&MokHa (Castway Diva, kdrama).

Favorite period drama: Under the Queen's Umbrella, (kdrama).

Runner Up: The Forbidden Marriage(kdrama) Also, i have just realised I didn't see many period dramas this year, but many dramas had a past life, that has to count, right?

Best chaebol romance: The third finger offered to a King (jdrama). Shame on you Korea, you failed to deliver on your area of expertise.

Runner up: A boss and a babe (thai drama). My Demon (kdrama)

Best makjang to keep you at the edge of your seat: Perfect Revenge Marriage . Runner Up: Celebrity. I know it's not exactly a makjang, but idk how else to describe it.

Best Mother: The Queen (Under the Queen's Umbrella, kdrama). Half of her problems were created by her own children, poor woman.

best father: Adoptive dad, Castaway Diva (kdrama). The man was a saint.

Runner Up: Kim Sabu, Dr. Romantic. He has like 20 children among his medical staff lmao

Best Daddy: Joo In Sung, Moving. I don't have to explain lol

Most intense high school romance&story: The Eclipse (thai drama). Runner Up: Never let me go (thai drama)

Best Musical drama: My School President (thai drama).

Runner Up: Castway Diva. Park Eun Bin can do everything. What a Queen.

Best Cohesive storytelling imo: My Lovely Liar. Not the best, but pretty good overall. Runner Up: Sountrack No 2 (kdrama). Worst thing about this is that it was so short, I needed more!!!

Swetest down to earth love story: Hidden Love, cdrama.

Runner Up: HeartLiming in Moonlight Chicken (thai drama). And basically all the other couples in there. The Last twilight Series (thai drama).

Most tragic love story: Moon in the day, kdrama. The competition was strong, but I think falling in love with the man who killed your whole family and caused the downfall of your kingdom is hard to top. Plus, she had to kill him in the end. And it took 1500+ years to get their HEA.

best wtf did I just watch but why was it so fun: My man is cupid (kdrama). Runner Up: Fish Upon the Sky (thai drama)

Best Live Action: From me to you, jdrama. Cute coming of age story. I still prefer the 2010 movie though.

Dishonorable mentions:

Biggest what if: Justice in the Dark (cdrama). I can't talk about this without crying lol Runner Up: Till the end of the moon. I need cdramas to be 40+ eps again!

biggest disappointment: It is with a heavy heart that I must say the Legend of Anle (cdrama). Still, I had my fun with it. I will always be biased about GongJun lol Runner up: King The Land, i mean where was the plot??

messiest past lives story, the theme of the year in kdramas: See You in my 19th life. Runner Up: Destined with You.

GMMTV is really doubling down on dudes that are very mildly talented with GMMTV Musicon. The trailer for the thing is taking itself very seriously.

This is no offense to any of the lads included in the thing. They are all lovely for the most part, and they're fine, just not especially talented enough for like, "Hey let's have a concert."

This is two fold here.

GMMTV could just have a fan meet with some singing as usual, and that would be fine.

The main issue I see here is that they have SIZZY, which while not my cup of tea, are actually really talented. They get no love from GMMTV, which is ridiculous because girl groups are so popular right now and they have the talent to get somewhat big.

Alas, misogyny in the management structure is preventing this and it's sad. We're lucky we got GAP. These mediocre men are getting an unnecessary career boost.

If you held a taser to me and asked me who out of the GMMTV stable of lads has real talent and potential when it comes to singing:

Book

Earth

Mix

That's about it. Even Khaotung — his voice is beautiful, but his range is v v small. Everyone else has an even more limited range that they can cover and has to sing songs that are written to their strengths.

Book is probably the most talented out of the bunch (listen to A Boss and A Babe OST, that's a technically difficult song), followed by Earth (his part in The Moon Represents My Heart is very good). Mix was in the same boy band as Book.

Supposedly Louis can sing really well, but I can't find solo live stuff, but he's another possibility. His cover of PS5 is legit, but you can't tell when things are recorded. (I really like him and would love to see him get more acting work, as an aside. He was fun in Midnight Motel.)

These are my thoughts from listening to their OSTs, listening to them sing ad hoc, and knowing my music stuff.

So, GMMTV, no matter how much I love the stuff you do for BL, this just sucks. These lads already have a hell of a career. They don't need this. You'll make money from it, but if you promoted SIZZY, and had been this entire time, you'd have a huge cash cow. Thai girls would have Thai women to look up to, how neat would that be?

At least the KPWT wasn't serious about itself at all. It wasn't out to make a music career for anyone. Jeff already had his. Ping's band is getting a boost, but again, they already had their fans. Pong might be getting work? Bas got some exposure, but still. None of these guys are using it like that. It was just great fun and hard work with their best friends, not solo acts.

I'm not here to fight over my opinions on talent. I love the GMMTV lads, I just honestly don't think they're gifted musicians. There's no shame in that. Not everyone can be a multi-talented artist. It's just as amazing to be just a great actor.

Anyhow. That's my 2 Kongbucks.

I loved Friendzone and this is from the same director so bring it on. Also we see a new pairing here which is NeoMark. They are going to be in 2 BL’s together. I wonder why GMMTV is trying out a new pairing with Neo? Do they feel like NeoLouis isn’t good enough? I am afraid they might sink that ship and I would be sad about it since I really like them.

#3 Last Twilight

I have not watched Vice Versa and I also don’t plan on doing so. So I have no opinions on Jimmy and Sea’s acting. But I trust P’aof. This story is definitly something we have not seen in a Thai BL. 100% sad story and unless he doesn’t end up going blind in the end it’s a sad ending no matter what. So I will prepair tissues once it airs. I also really like the cinematography here.

Look a Cherry Magic remake it self I have no problems with. But TayNew? New the guy who made fun of disabled people and never apologized for it? Yeh I will pass. But I also I wonder how Thailand will try and pull this off since Japan has a very specific type of humour only Japan can pull of.

Yes I am upset by the lack of Louis and Pawin. Both only have 1 side role and they deserve better. I just hope they will let Louis sing lots of OST’s then. And that’s also how I feel about Arm. I know he has lots of other work but come one give him a lead role somewhere.

I was thinking of live blogging, but to not overwhelm with posts, here is it: gmmtv's bl line-up for 2023 is currently giving us:

1. a forcebook office romance, which to me means: force. in. a. suit. that's really all I have to say about this lmao. also I hope it's funny

2. more joongdunk! hidden agenda with dunk trying to get joong's ex and getting him to teach what she likes.. a recipe for disaster. also it has the vice versa side (boom and aou) that I liked sosososo much so yay!! and pod being a beaut..

3. an offgun cooking romance?? I honestly thought they were dialing back on bl, but there they are... the true gmmtv pillar.. the audience going absolutely batshit insane, me too. also gun says 'i've liked it for quite a while' in the teaser and it got me giggling, kicking my feet, the whole shabam. once again, i really hope it's funny

4. jimmysea in something called 'last twilight'. money-troubled jimmy becomes an assistant to almost blind sea. It's like that one vietnamese series!! mostly, the poster looks melodramatic. lovely. directed by the p'aof though!!!! also; sea's fit in this event is crazy.

5. only friends with forcebook and firstkhao?? I didn't think forcebook was that impressive in enchanté to get 2 new titles immediately, but it does mean we're getting a series called 'only friends' with two pretty legendary actor friendships... it's looking very complicated and one big web of sex and feelings and all that shit-- in short, i can't fucking wait. the ost also sounds great already

(force is wearing glasses at the event and I'm weak in the knees)

we interrupt this message with: neo is confirmed in 2 of these 5 and all we're doing is waiting for a title with him and louis as main... it's not looking good guys

6. dangerous romance with, get this, perth and chimon. it's looking like highschool enemies to lovers! chimon tutoring perth for money. perth's character is a footballer, of course. this pairing came out of left field for me,, i knew they'd give perth someone but i didn't know who it was gonna be.. we'll see! both of them are strong actors so... I thought for a second that pepper (only his profile in shot and with the slickback) was mew and i almost shit my pants lmao

7. CHERRY MAGIC WITH TAYNEW????? ohhhh so gmmtv is going crazy next year is what you're saying. gmmtv is trying to be the best next year. gmmtv is (hopefully) trying to keep the adorable office set vibes that japan has perfected, and adding the only thing we were missing from that series: honest physical interest. that's truly the only thing they can add to the masterpiece that is cherry magic. so i hope they do, and w/o taking away the rest that made it so good.

tay and new were so overdramatic in this announcement, it was great lmao

8. our skyy 2. so some short 'after their stories' things, which i kinda like. they're doing like,, every pairing they had in 2022 so that's cool! bad buddy, the eclipse, forcebook from boss and babe, tale of 1000 stars, pondphuwin's pairing from never let me go, joongdunk from the star/sky series, vice versa and geminifourth from the school president thing (i think they're also a moonlight chicken side, but I'm not sure).. it's a crazy line-up

I cannot believe we're getting all of that. and we're still waiting on some for this year?? I can't wait to get my paws back on frigay... because frigay is only frigay if there's a gmmtv series airing, you feel me?

BUT ONE LAST THING: WE'RE GETTING AN OFFICIAL MILKLOVE SERIES :)))))) i cannot believe this is happening :'))

Seeing Cher and Gun in the Our Skyy 2 trailer wearing those dreaded Christmas colors reminded me of a few things,

like I didn't actually write about the colors in episode 6 of A Boss & A Babe because I got distracted by the . . . acting. Yeah. The acting and not that wild "Let them eat cake" version of Gun we saw.

With much resistance, I've come to the conclusion that we are dealing with warm vs cool colors (Cher x Gun & Zo x Three), which does not make a lick of sense because the opening and ending credits are blue and yellow and the OST gave us blue, yellow, and orange while Gun has yet to put purple on his body compared to Cher who had purple with blue on last episode, but Reon Saran Jantharakkha, the cinematographer, is playing color combat, so cool cool cool, but not cool colors since Gun DOESN'T HAVE PURPLE!

Whatever. I'm good. *shrugs in unbothered*

The episode begins where the previous episode ended - Gun in blue at Cher's front door.

Just in case you're struggling to see it, this is what the suit looks like during the day.

I'm not touching on how Gun's colors become darker as his mood shifts because after spending time with Cher, Gun quickly pops back up the next day in green winking and smirking his way through the office like he took a course in HR violations from GAP's Sam.

Thup shows up at Cher's place after work, because nobody respects this man's space, in orange demanding money for an avoidable car accident. His colors say he is Team Cher, but his attitude says he is Team Share-Your-Money-Now!

Cher transfers him the money, so he quickly exits, only for his other problem child to call him from the hospital.

Gun LIES stating that he was injured at a construction site, even though he told Cher earlier that he had a meeting at a hotel, and surprising nobody, Gun is missing his green. This mentiroso is in the black! *The Scooby Gang is displeased* But his lies get him a care giver, a hair washer, AND someone to cuddle with.

Gun LIES some more and tells Cher that the reason he was bothered the other day was because he met with Thyme and had to be tough, but the colors and timing are telling a different story. Thyme appears to be wearing green (which would align with Gun), but also Gun left that meeting smug in the flashback, yet showed up to the office so upset that only Porsche, his ex, was allowed to speak to him.

What's happening, narrative? Why is the math not mathing?

Because of Gun's LIES (or the plot holes), Cher sleeps with Gun, and the next day, Oi, the most accurate office worker ever portrayed in a series, calls Gun out on his change in personality while wearing blue pants. Gun is wearing whatever color this is. BlueBlack? No sé,

But Cher struggles with his color.

Is it because you slept with a liar, sir? Blink twice if it an actual part of the narrative. Blink once if it's merely plot holes.

Sidenote: Zo is fine. He was just tired. But not too tired to not wear his color, unlike Three who is taking a page out of Gun's color book and wearing green all of a sudden six episodes in.

But it's okay because Zo decides to support his boyfriend in his color shenanigans and wears PURPLE after Three blows up at the group for not taking the competitions seriously. Let it be known that Jack only stated facts. And also note everyone else will wear purple before Gun.

But next week, everyone seems to have their colors sorted out (I write that every week), after $ugar Daddy Gun suggests a beach trip for Cher and his friends.
