Terminator Salvation (2009) dir. McG. 7.4/10

I didn’t like how Arnold wasn’t prevalent.

Yah, I’mma listen to Connor too. I’m not having some government typa shit run me after a whole ass apocalypse.

Marcus was good.

Spoiler: [About Marcus Wright signing away to donate his body to Cyberdyne Systems through Dr. Serena Kogan after his body is killed in death row in 2003. He requests a kiss from her to get the signature. In 2018, a unit in the Resistance gets to Skynet’s Research and Development Facility. John Connor is there and they fight through and manage to transfer the files they find. They also discover many human prisoners being taken to SF. In the files, John learns of the T-800, a new Terminator. John goes outside alone to check on those who aren’t answering their calls and he sees an enemy aircraft. He pursues with a helicopter until the facility and every single one of his men die from an explosion. Marcus Wright wakes up in the rain. John dives into the sea against protocol into the Resistance Headquarters submarine. General Hugh Ashdown doesn’t care for the prophecy of John Connor. General Dmitri Losenko explains about the discovery of a hidden signal in the machines’ communications that allows them to shut down. Connor says he’ll field test it. Dmitri also lets him know of the Skynet kill list for this week with John being #2 and Kyle Reese being #1. John comes back to his men and his right hand man, Barnes, learns of his brother’s death. John goes and hugs Kate. Marcus finds the road and heads to LA. He calls at a machine and is shot at. He’s saved by Kyle Reese. When they’re at a bit of safety, Kyle uses a gun to try to make Marcus take off the jacket he stole since it’s a Resistance fighter jacket. Marcus takes the gun easily from him. Kyle also is with a little, mute girl named Star. They are able to destroy the T-600 and go to find a car even though they don’t work. John and his crew manage to shut down a small machine with the code. Marcus, Kyle, and Star eat and sleep as Marcus teaches him how to hold onto his gun. Marcus learns that Kyle wants to earn his Resistance jacket and that they are the two running the LA headquarters. John talks through to the people on a radio with a message of hope. Marcus and Kyle listen and learn of John Connor. Kyle wants to head to John while Marcus is headed to SF to find someone. Kyle advises against it since SF is Skynet Central. Marcus fixes up the car and the radio turns on. A scout for the Terminators finds them through it and a chase happens. They manage to destroy it. John learns of a lot of enemy movement in that area and sends in two A-10′s to help. Marcus, Star, and Kyle get to a base and are surrounded by a group of people. They don’t care for the Resistance since it’s impossible to take on the machines. The grandma of the group offers them food, but a man doesn’t like how she’s giving away their supplies. At this time, a machine takes her and another and traps them to be transported. Everyone runs. Kyle and Marcus see that running is meaningless since they are being attacked. They ram a tank at the machine while Star provides a flare. An explosion happens and they get away as the machine comes out of the fire and pursues them. They are chased to the bridge with Moto-Terminators following. They destroy the moto-Terminators and the transport takes Star and Kyle while Marcus tries saving them. The A-10′s try shooting down the hunter killers, but the transport gets away. Marcus falls into the water and comes out to help an ejected pilot. She’s Blair Williams and part of John’s crew. They head to John. They stop for the night and she gets antagonized by a group of men until Marcus helps her fight them. They talk together later and hold each other for warmth. John’s team tries out the signal to a larger machine in the field and it works. General Ashdown now aims to bomb Skynet Central even though John says there are prisoners needing to be saved. Kyle and the other prisoners are gathered and killed if they try to escape. Blair crosses a magnetic land mine to get to her base and one attaches to Marcus and blows up. He’s brought in to the medic and they learn that he has a mechanical endoskeleton. He’s part human and part machine. John believes he was sent here to kill them

even though Marcus believes that he is human. John learns from Marcus that Kyle was on the transport after Marcus says that he could’ve killed then, but didn’t. Blair learns that Marcus is to be disassembled even though she believes he is not an enemy. Kyle’s face gets recognized by the machines and he’s taken away. Blair tells Barnes to go to John while she handles Marcus. She then helps Marcus escape. John talks to Kate about how his mother never talked about something like Marcus. When Barnes enters, they sound the alarm and try to stop Blair and Marcus. Outside, Marcus gets away while Blair is caught. John and his crew pursue by helicopter, but are attacked by hydrobots. John ends up in the water and is saved by Marcus. John tells him that even though he may not think he’s a robot, the robots can tell. They both end up with a plan to work together to infiltrate Skynet and save Kyle. John lets him go and talks to Blair and lets her go. John requests Ashdown to prolong the bombing so that he can do his rescue mission, but he’s denied. John talks about how they’ll all die if they don’t do so and he’s relieved of his position. Barnes and his crew help John anyway. John talks on the radio to ask the people not to participate in the bombing yet, along with a message of hope. John overrides a moto-Terminator and gets to Skynet Central. Marcus enters after being identified as a robot. He sends a transmission to John of Kyle’s whereabouts. He then gets a message from Skynet revealing that he’s the only one of his kind and was created to infiltrate and help Skynet win the war. He was to bring John to the base, which he did, and when the Resistance bombs the place, he would have died. Ashdown learns that every city is standing down on the bombings. John breaks in and releases all the prisoners as he looks for Kyle. The headquarters use the signals only to discover that Skynet found them and the headquarters gets destroyed. Marcus takes out his hardware and chooses to be human. John finds the first Terminator with skin and fights it. He then finds Kyle Reese and Star. Kate and Barnes works on bringing air support. The Terminator destroys a different machine and starts fighting them again. John sets up nuclear fuel cell rigs around the place. The Terminator eventually manages to beat up Marcus and punch him in his human heart, killing him. John electrocutes him until he comes alive and John gets pierced through the chest by the Terminator. Kyle and Star have made it out to Kate. Marcus cuts off the Terminator’s head and they head outside. Everyone is airlifted out as the place blows up with Star providing the remote to John. John is tended to and he gives a Resistance jacket to Kyle. Marcus donates his heart to John.]

Terminator Salvation (2009)

Terminator Salvation is a American military science fiction action film directed by McG and written by John Brancato and Michael Ferris. It is the fourth installment of the Terminator film series and serves as both a sequel to 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and a prequel to 1984’s The Terminator. The film stars Christian Bale and Sam Worthington, with Anton Yelchin, Moon Bloodgood, Bryce Dallas Howard, Common, Michael Ironside, and Helena Bonham Carter in supporting roles.

In a departure from the previous installments, Salvation is a post-apocalyptic film set in the year 2018. It focuses on the war between Skynet’s machine network and humanity, as the remnants of the world’s militaries have united to form the Resistance to fight against Skynet’s killing machines.

In 2003, Dr. Serena Kogan of Cyberdyne Systems convinces death row inmate Marcus Wright to sign over his body for medical research following his execution. Some time later, the automated Skynet system is activated and becomes self-aware; perceiving humans as a threat to its existence, it starts a nuclear holocaust to eradicate them in the event known as “Judgment Day”.

In 2018, John Connor leads an attack on a Skynet base, where he discovers human prisoners and schematics for incorporating living tissue to a new type of Terminator, the T-800. John survives an explosion on the base, which is destroyed. Following John’s departure, Marcus emerges from the base’s wreckage and begins walking towards Los Angeles.

Spanish Colonial Home Renovation

Recently renovated by Martha O’Hara Interiors (previously featured here, here, here & here), the dark and foreboding interior inside this Spanish Colonial home overshadowed its charming architectural features. The home didn’t take advantage of the beautiful hill views nor represent its young owners, who were looking for furnishings and selections that would add lots of glamour to the living room, kitchen and dining spaces.

With two little girls at home, and a stylish mom with an admitted high heel obsession, the clients wanted every specification to be a WOW factor without feeling like they had to walk on egg shells. Pretty and durable was mom’s “mantra” that the designer happily ran with! High impact selections were key to the design. They often mixed formal and informal statement pieces to achieve the client ’s overall aesthetic: they wanted the ultimate family home that was all about high fashion AND high function.

Spanish Colonial Home Renovation

The color scheme brings a fresh feel and balances the traditional architectural details this home features.

All the pillows are custom-made, one with Romo fabric and the other with Duralee fabric.

Side Table: Noir Furniture.

The chandelier is a 10-light chandelier in a polished nickel finish by Elk.

Before & After

The house used to feel “heavy” and outdated. New paint, new flooring and a few other changes made this entire space feel more current and bright.

Paint Color

The paint color throughout the main floor is custom, Sherwin Williams 50/50 Mix (Neutral Ground SW7568/ Natural Tan SW7567).

Note from the designer: “For lighting, our inspiration came from two existing chandeliers above the dining table. Because these were such grand pieces, we were especially conscious of selecting additional lighting that would be equally as impressive, bring light to each room, and push the design more transitional. We selected a large geometric fixture for the formal living room to complement the glamorous dining chandeliers. Mixing these styles helped connect the open- concept rooms while allowing each space to have its own distinction. We balanced the dramatic chandeliers with tall window panels and layers of purple fabrics – from airy lavenders to rich plum and egg-plant hues. “

Kitchen Island

It’s a color match to Sherwin Williams’ Dove Tail. It’s very similar to Aleutian by Sherwin Williams.

Cabinet Paint Color

The kitchen cabinetry was done in Sherwin Williams Eider White SW7014.

The designer mixed chrome hardware with rose gold kitchen faucets. Similar Hardware: Appliance Pulls, Knobs, Pulls.

White Brick: Natural Stone Thassos Honed-Straight.

Pendant: Currey & Co. Platz Pendant.

Breakfast Room

“An essential request from mom was for an informal eating area where they could enjoy family meals together. To achieve this, we created a dining nook by closing off a portion of their abundant outdoor space. This also allowed us to increase the kitchen’ s size and improve flow to the casual family room.”

Flooring

The flooring is a wide European Oak Flooring – similar here.

Family Room

The family room is stylish, comfortable and the color palette is very forgiving; which is perfect for homes with small kids.

Lighting is a Visual Comfort Drum Light Fixture.

Rug is custom-made from carpet.

Side Table: Hourglass side table by Noir Furniture.

Ottoman: Custom-made with Designers Guild fabric – Brescia – and black pearl nailhead.

Reclaimed shiplap brings a very rustic feel to this grey bar. Cabinets are painted in a similar to Benjamin Moore HC-168 Chelsea Gray.

Reclaimed Barn Door

Vintage doors were hung as barn doors and add some patina to this home. The cabinet on the left is painted in Sherwin Williams Fabulous Grape SW 6293. Trim paint color is Sherwin Williams Dovetail.

What a charming master bedroom! Did you notice the view? This bedroom feels feminine and elegant.

The custom Vanguard Bench is available through the designer.
