sota's brave confession of love being that episode:
[worth noting here that in the dub the way richard says "WHAT-ever..." priceless.]
[also worth noting that in the dub he says "you already said that" instead of "hah! what're you saying?!" which feels more like an inuyasha response to me. then again we'll never know since this is technically anime-only, and while i tend not to like a lot of inuyasha filler, if it's in the modern day i will eat it up. every. time.]
inuyasha being stunned by the sheer amount of goods in a grocery store...gold. earlier in this episode he also seemed enamored by baked goods, and i wonder if he's ever really had anything resembling it? bread made its way to japan mid-16th century via portuguese traders, so it's likely he's never had anything like it and the smell must've been new to him - it would've been interesting if we'd seen him trying all these new foods!
i can never decide whether or not sunrise likes inukag bc they'll cut out canon scenes of them but then insert scenes like this in their filler eps...what game are ya'll playing? but flustered inuyasha is adorable so i can't complain this time.
eavesdropping...
i'm sorry WHERE is he getting these questions from i actually burst out laughing
called out by an eight year old...
i don't care whether or not this is ooc because i laughed way too hard like he really got dragged from potential sleep to deal with this LMAO
this is the cutest thing i've ever seen and it only gets better:
shortly after: sota getting kicked out of his own house after chickening out for the tenth time this episode
smol
flustered inukag my beloved...
anyway this episode is a dumb fun and i love it to an insane degree. the only part i would say is out of character (at least, more out of character than sunrise already does inuyasha) is when he literally makes this face at the thought of confessing to kagome:
coming from the guy who was pretty open about his feelings in the manga and quite literally told kagome - thinking she was hearing him - that he likes seeing her smile and feels relieved when he's by her side, i don't see him getting this flustered - but the face he makes is priceless.
Sota: So you and your big brother have different moms, his was a demon and yours was human, and you guys' dad gave his strongest sword to you, so that's why you guys don't get along?
Inuyasha: If by "don't get along" you mean "that pompous asshole tries to kill me every chance he gets", then yeah, that pretty much sums it up.
Sota: Yeesh.
Inuyasha: But I cut his arm off so I guess we're even for now.
I kinda like but dislike that Rumiko and Sunrise (and fans) have never even mentioned that miko (priestesses) are virgins. And that their shinto ability to tend holy places comes from being unmarried virgins. In modern day I guess it is not really required but I kind of wish more people analyzed Kikyo, the dark priestess, Kaede and Kagome in that light.
Personally I think that due to the era Kagome would not be allowed to remain a miko after getting married and having a child. She would still be one of course due to her spiritual ability, but I think she would no longer be allowed to remain in that societal role.
Kagome is so spunky though that I see her rebelling against it. I think Kagome's strength in being outspoken is another great contrast between her and Kikyo. While Kikyo was confined by society and was only freed from expectation when she became an impure monster. Kagome was outspoken and loud to where she didn't have much of a societal role and yet remained 'spiritually pure.'
There is a huge theme of 'societal expectation' in Kagome, Inuyasha, and Kikyo that I think being a miko is a part of.
Personally I'm torn on Kagome loudly choosing to get married and have a child VS remaining a Miko and Kagome choosing to attempt to do both.
Do you think, when Kagome left for the final time, Sota was the same age as Kaede when she lost Kikyo? Even though Kagome's not dead, she's still gone-- there's no chance he'll ever see her again. Even when Kikyo returned, it wasn't Kikyo. Kikyo and Kaede were never truly reunited, it was all just an illusion.
Do you think as the years pass, Sota starts losing vision specifically in his right eye?
being here with sota is already a struggle, feelings rushing back as she forces herself to meet his eye. audrey wishes she'd had the courage to talk to him before needing a favor from him, but after what she's about to ask him, she doubts he would believe anything about her missing him. "right, so... when we broke up, my parents never actually got that memo. they think we're still together. they actually think we live together." she smiles, but it doesn't quite reach her eyes, so she just sighs, resigned. "i need you to go to greece with me. next week."
first off i think that we're still in tsubasa's dream i don't think he's actually woken up yet
everything thats happening feels like his concious wishes and his uncouncious wishes are coming true
i think sota is dead, i think he died in the accident that led to tsubasa's coma, and tsubasa's concious wish is that sota were alive, happy, with a family that truly cares about him, but subconiously, i dont think thats what he really wants, kenta is not a greedy, cruel child, tsubasa just desperately wants him to be because he doesnt want sota to be happy without him. hes convinced himself that sota is qlive with a family and now hes trying to convince himself that theyre bad people because thats what he wants to be the truth
'my big brother isnt dead, hes still alive and is happy with a new family, but he would be happier with me because his new family is bad'
tsubasa conciously wants his family to be happy and move on from what happened, but he unconciously wants purpose and reason. if his family heals without him, was he even needed? why did they get to spend all that time growing closer and healing if he doesnt get to move on. he also unconciously wants people to hate him as much as he thinks they do. we already know that the bullying in the loop was extremely exaterated from how it really was, and his room is an amplification of what he thought the people around him thought of him, as are all of the other loop rooms. he wanted a functioning family that he got through his parents, but he also wanted his family to have never moved on and fallen deeper into despair, like shiori
'my family is happy, but they're happier when im here, and no problems can be truly solved until i solve them. but my despair is not misplaced and i am not sinking deeper into despair on my own'
I have this insanely strong urge to write something (kinda self indulgent) with Suzume and Sota where they have a conversation about depression and the self sacrificing tendencies they both have. It's nagging at me I NEED the hurt/comfort.
