As drivers seek reliability, affordability, and style, the demand for pre-owned cars in the Garden State has surged. This blog delves into the world of pre owned cars new jersey, with a focus on SUVs for sale. From the perks of opting for pre-owned vehicles to the considerations when purchasing an SUV, we'll guide you through the process of making a well-informed and satisfying choice.
The Appeal of Pre-Owned Cars in New Jersey:
Cost-Effective Choice: Opting for a pre-owned car allows you to explore a wider range of models and features at a fraction of the cost of a new vehicle. This financial flexibility is particularly appealing to those seeking quality without breaking the bank.
Depreciation Advantage: Unlike new cars that experience rapid depreciation in their early years, pre-owned vehicles have already weathered this initial loss. Buying a pre-owned SUV means you won't bear the brunt of the steepest depreciation curve, providing better long-term value.
Certified Pre-Owned Programs: Many dealerships in New Jersey offer certified pre-owned (CPO) programs, ensuring that the pre-owned SUVs undergo rigorous inspections, come with extended warranties, and meet manufacturer standards. This added assurance enhances the overall appeal of pre-owned options.
The SUV Experience in New Jersey:
Adaptability to All Terrains: New Jersey's diverse landscapes, from coastal roads to hilly terrains, make SUVs an ideal choice. Their versatility and robust build cater to various driving conditions, ensuring a smooth and secure ride regardless of the road ahead.
Spacious Interiors: Families and adventurers alike appreciate the spacious interiors of SUVs. With ample legroom, cargo space, and often third-row seating options, SUVs are designed to accommodate both passengers and belongings comfortably.
Safety Features: SUVs are renowned for their safety features, making them a popular choice for New Jersey drivers. From advanced airbag systems to collision prevention technologies, these vehicles prioritize the well-being of passengers and pedestrians.
Finding the Right Pre-Owned SUV in New Jersey:
Research Dealerships: Start your journey by researching reputable dealerships in New Jersey that specialize in pre-owned SUVs. Look for customer reviews, ratings, and testimonials to gauge the trustworthiness of the dealership.
Certification Matters: If possible, prioritize certified pre-owned SUVs. These vehicles have undergone extensive inspections, ensuring they meet high-quality standards. Certification often comes with additional warranties, giving you added peace of mind.
Vehicle History Reports: Request a comprehensive vehicle history report for any SUV you're considering. This report provides crucial information about the vehicle's past, including accidents, title issues, and odometer readings, helping you make an informed decision.
Test Drive Multiple Options: A test drive is essential to assess how a specific SUV performs on the road. Consider factors such as handling, comfort, and overall driving experience. Don't hesitate to test drive multiple models to compare and contrast.
Budget Considerations: Establish a clear budget before diving into the search for a pre-owned SUV. Factor in not just the purchase price but also potential maintenance costs, insurance, and fuel efficiency to ensure your choice aligns with your financial goals.
Navigating the Purchase Process:
Negotiation Skills: Don't be afraid to negotiate the price. Research the fair market value of the SUV you're interested in and use this knowledge to engage in constructive negotiations with the dealership.
Financing Options: Explore financing options available at the dealership or through external lenders. Compare interest rates, terms, and monthly payments to secure a deal that fits comfortably within your budget.
Inspection by a Mechanic: Before finalizing the purchase, have the pre-owned SUV inspected by an independent mechanic. This step helps identify any potential issues that may not be immediately apparent, ensuring transparency in the transaction.
Conclusion:
Embarking on the journey to find the ideal pre-owned SUV for sale in nj is an adventure filled with possibilities. From the myriad benefits of choosing a pre-owned vehicle to the allure of SUVs tailored for the Garden State's diverse landscapes, the path to automotive satisfaction is paved with careful consideration and informed choices. With these insights, you're well-equipped to navigate the roads of possibility and find the pre-owned SUV that perfectly complements your lifestyle in New Jersey.

Dee Dee Sharp
Dee Sharp, is a popular American R&B singer, known for “Mashed Potatoes Time,” a number one hit in 1962. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 9, 1945, as Dione LaRue.
LaRue has a musical background as a lead singer of a group of gospel-singing teenagers, playing piano at an early age as well as being the director of the choir at Eternal Baptist Church in Philadelphia, which was her family’s church, pastored by her grandfather Rev. Eubie Gilbert.
When LaRue was 13 years old her mother was injured in a car accident. Late that year, to make money to help the family, Sharp answered an ad for a singer who could play piano and sight-read music. LaRue got the job with the Clara Ward singers, singing backup on many of Ward’s records. She later credited Willa Ward, sister of the gospel singer, with getting her started as a professional musician. While on one tour in New York Sharp took the opportunity to produce a record centered around a new dance craze, the Mashed Potatoes. Sharp recorded “Mashed Potatoes Time” on the Cameo/ Parkway label, and the song became an overnight success. She adopted the stage name Dee Dee Sharp for the recording, partly because she was already called D, and sang in D sharp.
Recording “Mashed Potatoes Time” at the age of 16, Sharp was the first Black female teen idol.
Living in Philadelphia, the home of Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, helped her career. She appeared on the syndicated teen dance show many times from 1962 to 1981, and in 1965 she joined Clark’s popular Caravan of Stars.
While “Mashed Potatoes Time” propelled Sharp to stardom, it pigeonholed the Philly songstress as a teenybopper forever to be identified with her number one smash. Sharp’s next hit, “Gravy (For My Mashed Potatoes),” was released in 1962, peaked at #5 on the U.S. Pop Chart and #7 on the U.S. R&B Chart. Also, in 1962 Sharp collaborated with fellow Philadelphian Chubby Checker on the album Down to Earth. Ride! “Do the Bird,” was released in March 1963. Other songs from Sharp were “Wild,” “Willyam, Willyam,” “Never Pick a Pretty Boy,” and “He’s No Ordinary Guy,” were all released in 1964 and “I Really Love You,” and “Standing in the Need of Love,” were released in 1965.
Sharp left Cameo because of slumping sales of her recordings, and signed with Atlantic Records in 1966. Then in 1967, she and her then husband Kenny Gamble, founded Gamble Records with Leon Huff. In 1969 she released “The Bottle, or Me” on the Gamble Label followed in 1975 by “Happy Bout the Whole Thing.” Despite the major success of Gamble and Huff with other Philadelphia artists like Teddy Pendergast in the 1970s, Sharp never had a hit on her husband’s label. The couple divorced in 1980.
Later Sharp became known for her cameo appearances in films such as Don’t Knock the Twist, (1962), Desperately Seeking Susan, (1985), Hairspray (1988), Troop Beverly Hills (1989) and Sister Act (1992).
Dee Dee Sharp currently lives with husband Bill Witherspoon in Medford, New Jersey.

Who was Kevin Bradley ( Man , 65 killed in Hingham Apple store crash ) Wiki, Bio, Age, Crime, Incident details, Investigations and More Facts
Tumblr media
Kevin Bradley Biography                                            Kevin Bradley Wiki
A 65-year-old New Jersey man has been identified as the person killed in Monday morning's crash at the Hingham Apple store, according to District Attorney Tim Cruz.
Kevin Bradley was identified as the person killed on Monday, Cruz said in a press release. He said Bradley was pronounced dead at the scene. "Preliminary investigation has revealed that the male driver of a 2019 Toyota 4Runner crashed into the front window of the Apple Store. The driver has not been identified at this time," the statement said. The Plymouth County DA's Office has identified the person killed at the Apple Store in #Hingham today as 65-year-old Kevin Bradley of New Jersey. The DA's office says "the male operator of a 2019 Toyota 4Runner crashed through the front glass" of the store; no ID on the driver. pic.twitter.com/Wfryesn8Es — WBZ NewsRadio (@wbznewsradio) November 21, 2022 According to the Boston Globe and Boston 25 News, Bradley was a "professional who was on hand to support the store's recent construction." A dark colored SUV injured 17 people and killed one person in and around the store around 10:45 a.m. Monday morning, Cruz said. The vehicle traveled from the front of the store to the back, pinning people against the wall, authorities said. "We are devastated by today's shocking events at Apple Derby Street and the tragic loss of a professional who was on hand to support the store's recent build. Our hearts go out to our team members and customers who have injured and to everyone affected by this horrific accident. We are doing everything we can to support our team members and our customers during this very difficult time," said a spokesperson for the tech giant. at the point of sale. Dr Jason Tracy, director of emergency medicine at South Shore Hospital, said the hospital had to call in additional surgeons and support staff to treat the 17 people injured in the accident, but the hospital had sufficient staff and was able to handle the number of patients depending on the time of day and the staff available. The driver of the van that drove through the store window was not among the 17 people taken to hospital, nor was it the person who died in the crash, Cruz said at an earlier news conference. Earlier, Cruz said 16 people were injured in the crash, but the hospital said it received one patient who has come to the hospital since the accident, bringing the total number of injured to 17.
Press conference
Hospital officials said at the press conference that the injuries included head trauma and "dismembered limbs". They also said that among the victims were patients with chronic conditions that made treatment difficult. There were already people in operating rooms receiving treatment for their injuries and some were waiting for operating rooms to become available, authorities said. Tracy said his team did an "incredible" job and he was "beyond proud", but added that this situation was never something they wanted to happen. Authorities said the hospital came to activate a MedFlight, which was ultimately useless. Another doctor from the hospital described how a triage center was set up at the nearby restaurant to help treat victims on the spot. There were several bystanders assisting the injured in and around the Apple Store, Cruz said, and Hingham Fire Chief Steve Murphy said that included off-duty medical personnel, as well as the director of the South Shore Hospital. Cruz said officials are treating the incident as a criminal investigation, and that it is active and ongoing. The Associated Press said the driver of the vehicle was male and was being questioned by police. Officials also said the Plymouth County Technical Rescue Team had been called in to assess the structural integrity of the building and "at this time there are no concerns" regarding the structural integrity of the building. At 10.45 a.m. On Monday, officials received multiple 911 calls about a car that drove through the window of an Apple store in a Hingham mall. The driver of the car was traveling at an unspecified speed. The Apple Store is located in the outer right corner of the plaza between a Brandy Melville clothing store and Burton's Grille. The Hannover Fire Department first posted on Facebook that the Derby St. crash happened just before 11:00 a.m. Monday morning, leaving more wounded and trapped. The department shared an image from the scene, which showed a hole in the glass case of the Apple Store. Read the full article

Heavy Equipment Salvage
Tumblr media
To cut costs and increase productivity, heavy machinery is often repaired or rebuilt using components salvaged from decommissioned machines. Since the development of the Internet, it has been much easier to track down particular replacement components for large pieces of machinery.
Heavy-equipment-focused junkyards dismantle the vehicles and store the usable components for later sale. Buyers also gain from heavy equipment salvage yards because the alternative is sometimes the high cost of purchasing brand-new equipment.
While digging through old pieces of heavy machinery, it's a good idea to double check that the spare part you've found is in good working order and is the right one for the machine. If you don't, you'll be stuck with useless garbage.
If you're lucky, you won't have to spend too much time or money searching among the piles of rubbish in the heavy equipment salvage yard until you find a spare that will do the job. If the manufacturer of the heavy equipment you employ has ceased production, the only place to find replacement parts is in a heavy equipment salvage yard.
Automobile components like transmissions and engines, as well as construction tools like back hoes, tractors, hydraulic pumps, and dozers, are the primary objects of salvage operations involving heavy machinery.
Some of the most up-to-date liquidation stores near you have an online inventory tracking system. In the event that you were unable to find a necessary replacement part at any of the branches, we will do our best to source it elsewhere and have it shipped to you as soon as possible. Most heavy equipment owners rely on heavy equipment salvage companies, thus these businesses never throw away a spare and constantly step up to fulfil the demand.
With today's technology, you may check the availability of a certain replacement item by looking up its serial number or identifying tag. There are now specialized salvage units that do business with only one brand or model of heavy equipment.
Some businesses that specialize in salvaging heavy machinery also host auctions where buyers can purchase trucks and other vehicles in working order. Recycling heavy tires is just one more thing that salvage companies deal with in addition to a wide variety of heavy equipment brands.
Salvage title in a used automobile ad is a common occurrence. Before you decide on buying a secondhand car that indicates it has such a title, it is crucial you understand what this signifies or you may have troubles later on.
What Is A Used Car Salvage Title?
An explanation of the meaning of a salvage title
Some vehicles sustain severe enough damage in an accident or natural disaster that they are no longer safe to operate. Oftentimes, owners will take their vehicles to salvage yards, where workers will make the necessary repairs and replace any worn or broken components so that the vehicle can be driven once more. However, according to the legislation, such automobiles must be marked with a salvage title so that future buyers are aware that the vehicle had previously been in an accident.
The car must have experienced damage equal to or greater than 75% of its worth for it to be classified as salvage. However, this number may differ from one state to the next. Salvage titles are issued for recovered automobiles that have been stolen in states including New Jersey, Oklahoma, New York, Oregon, New Mexico, Maryland, Georgia, Minnesota, Illinois, Florida, and Arizona.
Things to Think About
Tumblr media
Salvage automobiles appear interesting to consumers who wish to buy a vehicle on a restricted budget because they are priced significantly lower than what a new model would cost. However, there are a few things you should keep in mind before making such a purchase.
Although the damaged parts have been replaced with new ones, there is no guarantee of how effectively the salvaged car will function and for how long.
A used car with a salvage title is not easy to sell in the event that you wish to trade it in for a new car, because the dealers would view it with mistrust.
Be wary of salvage yards selling secondhand cars who fail to disclose that the vehicle in question has a salvage title by using phrases like "salvaged" in their advertisements.
Always ask the seller for documentary evidence of the repair work that has been carried out on the car; avoid buying the car if the salvage yards cannot give this confirmation. Almost all states require these documents to be filed for issuing a salvage title, therefore if your seller refuses to show them to you, it may suggest that he has not actually gotten the title.
Understanding what is a salvage title is the first step to know how to analyze the value of a used car with a salvage title. With this information, you can then locate the correct approach to check the value of such a car.
BMW Salvage at the Cheapest Prices
All automobiles eventually find their way to a junkyard for parts. Even the luxurious BMWs aren't immune to this rule. The car either had an accident or its engine or transmission was severely damaged, making repairs financially prohibitive. It's common practice to dismantle cheaper cars for their parts while keeping and reselling more valuable ones in their original condition. BMWs are luxurious and fashionable, but also extremely pricey. As a result, it is not uncommon to find BMWs in auto yards that have been written off and are awaiting refurbishment or sale. BMW drivers are very loyal to the brand and rarely trade in their rides.
A brand-new BMW can cost a lot of money. Purchasing any BMW, even pre-owned, will require a considerable financial commitment. BMW salvage cars may be your best and only option if you're trying to get your hands on a BMW but are strapped for cash. Due to their popularity and desirability, BMWs are frequently to be found in junkyards as parts. In addition to those in the market for a daily driver, there are also those in search of a BMW to restore.
BMWs intended for either repair or scrapping are readily available. Restoring a BMW salvage vehicle could be a labor-intensive process, but the vehicles' potential for needing extensive repairs makes them ideal candidates. Other BMWs in the salvage yard may have sustained less extensive damage, but they still may need an engine overhaul or some cosmetic touches. The essential thing to remember is a person buying a BMW salvage vehicle must have the ability to fix up the automobile; it would be a mistake otherwise, because the cars are there because of the cost of repair.

The Boy in the Box
Tumblr media
October 14, 2021
In February 1957, an unidentified boys body was found wrapped in a plaid blanket off Susquehanna Road in Fox Chase, Philadelphia. The body was naked, and had been put inside a cardboard box which had once been the box for a bassinet sold by J.C. Penney.
The boy’s hair had been recently cropped, possibly after he had died, because there was clumps of hair clinging to the body. The boy had been severely malnourished and had surgical scars on his ankle and groin, and had an L-shaped scar under his chin.
John Stachowiak was the young man who had found the body, as he was in the area checking on his muskrat traps. John did not report what he found right away, for fear the police would confiscate his traps. A few days later, a college student named Frank Guthrum saw a rabbit running into the underbrush and knowing that there were animal traps, he stopped his car to investigate and found the body.
Frank was also reluctant to contact the police, but did report it the next day after hearing of the disappearance of a woman named Mary Jane Barker.
The police opened an investigation on February 26, 1957. The boy’s fingerprints were taken and the police figured he would be identified shortly. However, no one came forward with any information and the boy is still nameless to this day.
There were 400,000 flyers posted across the Philadelphia and Delaware area, and the flyers were attached with every gas bill in Philadelphia. The police discovered a man’s blue corduroy cap, a child’s scarf and a man’s white handkerchief with the letter “G” in the corner around the crime scene. None of these items led anywhere.
The police then released a photo of the boy full dressed and in a seated position, to possibly make it look like he was alive to see if anyone would recognize the boy that way.
On March 21, 2016, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children released a forensic facial reconstruction of the boy and added him to their database. In August 2018, Barbara Rae-Venter, who had helped identify the Golden State Killer using DNA profiling said she was also using this same method to hopefully identify the boy in the box.
There are two main theories of where this boy came from and potentially what happened to him in his short life. The first theory involves a foster home that was located about 1.5 miles from the boy’s body when it was found.
In 1960, a man named Remington Bristow, who was an employee of the medical examiner’s office had pursued case of the boy in the box until his death in 1993, contacted a New Jersey psychic who said that he needed to look for a house that matched the foster home. When the psychic was brought to the site where the body was found she led Bristow to the foster home.
There was then an estate sale at the foster home to which Bristow saw a similar bassinet. He also saw blankets hanging on the clothesline that were similar to the blanket the boy had been wrapped in. Bristow himself believed that the boy was a step-daughter’s of a man who ran the foster home and that they had gotten rid of the boy because the step-daughter was an unwed mother.
Bristow believed the boy’s death was an accident, but police were not able to find any definite links between this foster house and the boy. In 1998, the foster father and step-daughter were interviewed and they were married at the time. The foster home investigation was closed and nothing came out of it.
The other theory was brought forward in February 2002 by a woman who only went by Martha. Martha had a history of mental illness so the police were unsure if her story was accurate, however they did believe it could be plausible. Martha or “M” claimed that her abusive mother had purchased the boy who she said his birth named was Jonathon, in the summer of 1954. She claimed the boy had been physically and sexually abused for 2 and a half years. One evening at dinner the boy had thrown up his meal of baked beans to which he was given a brutal beating until he was semiconscious. He was then given a bath to which M claims he died.
The details in M’s story matched up with details that only the police knew, as the coroner had found the boy’s stomach contained baked beans and his fingers had been wrinkled from being in water. M said her mother cut the boy’s long distinctive hair to conceal his identity. Her mother forced M to help her dump the boy’s body from the trunk of a car, and as they were doing so they came across a male motorist who asked if they needed help. M’s job was to stand in front of their license plate while her mother explained to the man that they were fine and didn’t need any help with anything. The man then drove off.
Police were unable to verify Martha or M’s story, thought they did believe it made sense. However, neighbour’s of M’s at the time said there had never been a young boy living at their house and said her claims were ridiculous.
A forensic artist named Frank Bender believed that the boy may have been raised as a girl, as the child’s choppy haircut seemed to be performed in haste, as well as his eyebrows were presented as being styled for the time. In 2008, Bender released a sketch of what the boy may have looked like with long hair.
In 2016, two writers named Jim Hoffmann and Louis Romano said they believed they had found a potential identity for the boy in Memphis, Tennessee and wanted the DNA to be compared with family members and the boy. This lead was originally discovered by a Philadelphia man who had introduced the two writers to each other. This lead was presented to police in early 2013 and Hoffmann and Romano went to get DNA from a particular family member in January 2014 which was then sent to the Philadelphia police.
Local authorities did not dismiss the lead, they agreed to further look into it, but would not compare the DNA until they found more circumstances relating the link to Memphis. In December 2017, the DNA was taken from the Memphis man and compared to the boy in the box and there was no match.
The Boy in the Box was buried and then his body was exhumed in 1998 to extract DNA from the enamel on his tooth. He was reburied at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Cedarbrook, Philadelphia. His coffin, headstone and funeral was donated by the son of the man who had buried the boy in 1957. The grave says, “America’s Unknown Child.”
It has been over 64 years the Boy in the Box was found and he is still unidentified. It is clear that the boy suffered extensive abuse in his short life and it is a shame he has not gotten any justice. Hopefully one day America’s Unknown Child will be identified.

Announcing the Winners of the 2019 McGingerbread Hell Competition
Wow! It was another great year for the McGingerbread Hell Gingerbread House Competition! The judges had their work cut out for them selecting between so many fine selections. Congratulations and great job to everyone who submitted an entry in this year’s contest. However, only six houses could make the cut.
Let’s start out with announcing the winners for Honorable Mention.
Honorable Mention: Priced to Sell! by Tina B.
The judges were wowed by the impressive nub, the tumorous turret, and the fantastically mismatched windows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quote from the Project Description: A true GEM of a house! 6,738 SF beautifully set on .23 parklike acres. Mediterranian villa in front, stately Federal in the back; it's the mullet of houses!...Entertain in your beautiful backyard featuring a real StoneTek(TM) patio! The heavily pruned weeping cherry tree will be a real showstopper in 30-40 years! The largest roof in the neighborhood has Chex shingle roof in molasses brown. 4 BR / 5.5 BA / $899,000 / Days on market - 923
Honorable Mention: Festive Roofline Soup by Jessica C.
The judges LOVED the complexity of the roofline, the absurd gabling, and the 3 car garage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quote from the Project Description: Features include: • Flaked almond shingles covering a roofline so complex that it required trigonometrical expertise from my math teacher father to work out measurements...[and] A low maintenance yard as the house takes up almost the entire block! Now accepting offers; the sellers are motivated as the couple are in the middle of divorce proceedings.
Honorable Mention: Vinyl Vanity by Joseph & Kayla S.
The judges were impressed by the impressive garage to roof ratio, the roof detailings, the candy-cane columns, and excellent lawyer foyer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quote from the Project Description: This 2 square foot, two and a half story Craftsmen Tudor Post Classical Revival estate is the luxurious home that your friends and neighbors never wanted...The car is truly the heart of Tudor England, so we put the garage proudly up front, where the yawning chasm of the door greets the outside world with disdain...Be sure to schedule your private tour soon, this edifice is sure to not last long. On the market. If you're curious about the price, you're probably too economically responsible for this property.
And now, our top 3:
Third Place: A Jersey Thing by Nùria O.
Judges were impressed by the size, shape, and meticulous detailing of the project, which is reminiscent of a truly terrible McModern. Anjulie, seeing the size of the huge roof said “this is some sustainable sh*t.” This project captures the true McMansion ethos in truly making us say “what the hell is going on here?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Project Description: Inspired by a beatiful RealLife™ McMansion™ in Beach Haven, NJ, this year’s featured McGingerbread mansion is a modern 5-bedroom, 16-bathroom home made entirely in construction-grade gingerbread and held together with royal icing made from free-range egg whites. The nonpareil- and sugar-crystal-covered walls provide both isolation from stormy weather and give a vintage air to counterbalance the futuristic lines of the design...On the back of the house, you can walk out to a large deck (perfect for entertainment) boasting a valuable one-piece handrail. From there you can access the beautiful mediterranean garden, set in candy charcoal and stones, environmentally friendly as it’s practically maintenance free. Don’t miss your chance to visit this unique home—feel the sugar rush!
Second Place: Victorian Opulence by Beth & Tina C.
Reigning McGingerbread champs Beth & Tina C. returned to the scene this year with yet another gorgeous gingerbread. Judges were wowed by the complexity and scale of the project. Sarah was impressed by the intricate piping and lots of frilly details, and the homage to the traditional Victorian gingerbread form. Anjulie described it as “unbearably neat” - she loved the uncantilevered bay window, the detached garage that makes entryway irrelevant, and the hilarious-front balcoiny with half-wall (not code compliant). Kate was impressed by the detailing and the extensive cantilevers which too serious structural engineering to pull off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Project description: New from the creators that brought you a true monstrosity last year: The Victorian Opulence! Featuring a lovely wrap around porch, adorable detached garage, and a truly magnificent waterfall in the backyard, this monolith of a house features thee decks overlooking somewhat patchy but still rescueable landscaping. Other features include an outdoor patio, a tower for all your princess capturing needs, and a truly cursed facade featuring a curved roof of all things! With several nubbins featuring windows, there is no angle on this house you can't see out of! Standing at nearly 2 feet tall and with an approximate total floor area of 550 square inches-excluding outdoor seating area-this Victorian style home will surely be the envy of all the gingerbread men in your country club. (Snow removal not included as part of HOA membership fees.)
And finally...
First Prize: Simply Having a Wonderful Building Crime by Erin E.
The judges all agreed: this house was outrageous - its execution was fantastic, and its design was full of so many delightful, humorous details. Sarah remarked: “This one is perfectly McMasion-scaled, with weirdly placed windows and gratuitous features to boot.” Anjulie couldn’t sing the praises enough: “I was particularly taken with the garage that is so far detached it makes the front door totally irrelevant...it's a castle of grand sadness. The Pete Buttigieg sign is the literal icing on top.” Kate loved the details: the Pete sign, the ridiculously diverse selection of windows, the piped on invasive plants and basketball hoop, and the glass and siding effects. Part of the competition lies in its absurdity and humor, and in that particular category, this house took the cake.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Project description: This home Defies the Ordinary. Located on a 2.3 acre lot, you'll be the envy of all your neighbors--and can watch from the top of the turret to be sure they're suitably jealous! Enjoy sitting al fresco under the portico above the garage, or on the hand-laid M&M stone patio! The two-story entryway accounts for just a few of the more than 60 sugar glass windows! All of the walls join up exactly where the architect expected them to, and no windows were covered up on accident!!!
Constructed over two weeks, out of ten pounds of flour, four pounds of powdered sugar, and more than half a gallon of corn syrup, this modest four-story house will surely stand the test of time. It’s been meticulously decorated with royal icing vines, wreaths, and Christmas lights, and landscaped with gingerbread boulders, definitely-naturally-this-green icing grass, and coconut macaroon topiary. The roof stands at 17 inches high, and is crafted from waffle cookie shingles over gingerbread rafters. For sale for just $1,895,000, this house is just perfect for new families or young professionals just starting out!
Special thanks to everyone who entered this year and to our judges Sarah Archer and Anjulie Rao for their contributions in pulling off yet another successful entry our search for the Gingerbread McMansion Hall of Fame!

hi, sudafed cleared my sinuses long enough to think so here’s a giant post about most of my charles headcanons
Playlist
OH btw here’s my 4 hour and 23 minute playlist for Charles. Enjoy. Yes I know I’m insane: https://open.spotify.com/user/pikaflute24/playlist/4DBxaaxbqsmJt9Fvl8AgwZ?si=OcXlYCdFRzOhuKa4p_HdUQ
General Headcanons
He was born November 24 1965. He’s currently 56, but I usually write him in his late 40s in most fanfic and content I make. So there’s this middle aged man....
He has hazel eyes. Sometimes they look green, sometimes brown. Sometimes they’ll be white but that’s when he’s using his magic so mind your business
Gear brand over his heart >:)c
:) i think he has piercings and tattoos, a skull (dead man teehee) on his upper arm, a tattoo of a date (the date pickles and him first met TEEHEE) on his left arm also has a tattoo on his arm of the day he “died” on his right. had his ears pierced when he was a teen.
Has a sweet tooth so hard. Smuggles in treats into the drawers of his desk just to snack on during the day and has a mini fridge just filled with ice cream and also sorts of other goodies. He loves brownies and cookies the most
Likes to work out and keep himself in shape. it takes his mind off of stressful things like work and the boys, and just take his morning practice sparring and doing various exercises in the mordhaus gym.
he’s uh also very flexible so he does yoga a lot when he exercises. don’t. look too deep into that
cannot cook to save his life. he almost burned mordhaus down trying to make himself a sandwich
he can play guitar! he used to play it more often when he was younger but he rarely has the time to play it nowadays. when he does get to play it, it’s usually in private (and mainly songs by dethklok), or it’s to show off to a certain lead guitarist that yes he is playing that solo wrong
he’s ambidextrous but prefers using his right hand. he’ll use his left hand to spar in order to go easy on his opponents because hes a smug cunt
he’s 5′7 but intimidation factor adds a couple inches doesn’t it
has a scorpion named princess as a pet. he lets her sit on his desk sometimes and it scares the shit out of dethklok which makes charles laugh on the inside
hes also a cat person. one time toki brought a cat home and it settled on charles’ lap and he almost cried
loves to be a smug asshole and relishes in it. will not take shit from anyone, especially from some asshole who is trying to pull one over on him
he has no idea how social media works at all. will print memes out to show to dethklok, he’s very fond of cat memes specifically (i can has cheeseburger type beat)
he has no idea what any internet memes means he isn’t going to start learning. he is going to misuse internet phrases. are you boys, ah, finding the imposter? [cue five groans from dethklok]
knows a lot of languages. not a comprehensive list but: french, swedish, norwegian, spanish, italian, japanese, chinese, german, russian and korean
is very competitive. scarily competitive. once he starts losing in smash or mario kart all hell will break lose
very bad at showing emotions or affection, when he gets compliments he gets all red and quiet and mumbles a thank you.
weird about being touched as well and will usually avoid it unless it’s with someone he trusts
speaking of, his love language is acts of service :)c
hates being called charlie or chuck, unless the right person calls him it ;)
he’s autistic. was nonverbal for most of his life and only talked to certain people, or anyone at all. he stims with his hands and uses his pens to fidget.
has a collection of novelty socks. he likes the ones that have polka dots or stripes
sleeps with a garfield plushie he had since he was younger. it helps him with the nightmares
when any of the boys need help sleeping (usually toki or pickles), he’ll sleep with them in his bed. after dying he had trouble sleeping some nights, so dethklok returned the favor and all piled up in his bed and helped him sleep. he didnt have nightmares after that night
hes nearsighted, and prefers to wear glasses over contacts
lactose intolerant, hes still eating mac n cheese and paying the price
metalhead but pretends to not be just to mess with his boys
crippling addiction to match 3 games. also loves to play minecraft.
overly self sacrificial. puts ones he love needs before his own, results in himself being very isolated and distant from those he cares about because he’s afraid of hurting them
his favorite colors are black and purple
coffee kinda guy. black coffee or bust
has a lot of cute novelty mugs to put his coffee in. he ones from places where dethklok tours, dethklok official ones (the only two that aren’t adorned with spikes), some cat themed ones, a couple that have ties and math references, and one from his boys that says “most brutal manager”. he drinks out of that last one the most
he has a couple of grey hairs and wrinkles, but he keeps them because they remind him that he’s human. also pickles said old men were hot but you didnt hear that from me
likes to play chess but he can never find a good opponent. all the klokateers are too scared if they win and dethklok is too distracted to ever play with him or they end up losing to quickly if charles plays against them
really wants kids. he babies his sister’s sons and daughters a TON (uncle charles always brings the best gifts :) ) and also treats toki like his own son in a way. toki doesnt mind, he really appreciates the love
speaking of, toki does call charles dad once and it makes charles cry for like. a week and a half
his favorite dethklok song is the gears :)
he likes to collect knives as a side hobby, his favorite of his collection is a sleek black one with skulls on the handle
he has a motorcycle and likes to drive it around sometimes to just be alone with himself. it’s all black with a red gear on it
lightweight but only if he drinks the amount dethklok drinks. can hold his alcohol fairly well if he drinks like a sensible human, prefers brandy and wine
he can smoke cigars to be sexy for me and me ONLY
likes to read in his spare time. he likes mystery novels and science fiction
he has soft spot for cheesy sitcoms, they’re his guilty pleasure
his favorite youtuber is lockpickinglawyer. yours should be too
usually sleeps in only his boxers but will wear a shirt if its’s cold. he tends to sleep on his side (also wants to be the little spoon when cuddled but he will never admit that)
takes vacations sometimes away from the boys despite his worry that something will go wrong (it will!). many of his vacations are usually going to visit his family and going to the shore with them, or travelling to somewhere new for a change (cue charles being a yakuza substory on his one vacation per year)
he can sew pretty well. learned from his mom and used to sew the whole his sister use to put through her soccer uniform.
can also do makeup, and usually does it for one of the boys of there’s no one else around to help
bites his lip when he’s nervous. which is a lot
likes chococat and gudetama. he’s a man of tastes
laughs really loud if you catch him off guard. he snorts sometimes too. he’s embarrassed by it, but i think its’ cute
loves law and order obviously
he likes men
has a lot of pent up rage. very good at compressing it. sometimes
as high priest, he stays up very late trying to decipher the ancient prophecies that dethklok needed to fulfill. he doesnt sleep very much when he starts out because he misses home, so the band makes him come back (or else)
also as high priest he becomes more intune with magic granted to him after he died and he mainly uses his magic to protect his boys when they go back to being a band. also to fuck with them
the band he managed before dethklok was a band named savior who said they were a metal band with a unique sound, but that unique sound was actually just being a christian metal band that were bad at playing music. they also treated charles like shit and blamed him for them doing so poorly with sales and shows. had an unfortunate “accident” with a tour bus after charles had enough of their attitude towards him.  he denies he had anything to do with it (he did.)
Family/Childhood
He’s the baby of the family. Spoiled rotten to the max. He doesn’t admit it though but whenever he comes home you know he abuses the “:)c im the favorite” card
He has 4 older sisters: Caroline who is a high school civics teacher, Cynthia who is a librarian, Callie who is a coach for a soccer team, and Charlotte who is a lawyer/manager who manages Ladyklok, which gets awkward (and funny) when Abigail starts dating the lead singer Natalie
charles is actually one of the tallest in his family. his dad is 6’1 and his older sister Callie is 5’11. cynthia is 5’6, caroline is 5’6, and his mom and charlotte are 5’5.
his mom is a doctor and his dad is an accountant. his mom’s name is giovanna and his dad’s name is elijah
caroline is the oldest sister, followed by cynthia, callie, charlotte then charles.
Charlotte and Charles are sworn enemies since they were born on the same day a year apart and basically have the same job. They do love each other though
His father calls him Charles. Caroline and Cynthia call him Charlie. Callie calls him Chuck. Charlotte calls him Charles (derogatory). His mom calls him a whole slew of nicknames that she made up when he was young (she calls him cheese ball and he turns red)
caroline has a wife (lauren who is a chef) and two kids (evan and shelby)
cynthia is dating a coworker (viola)
callie has a husband (john who is a stay at home dad) and they have three kids (brenda, melissa, and jeff)
charlotte is dating ladyklok (and abigail). this is a weird flex on charles i think.
He had a race car bed when he was like 5
He also was also one of those kids at family game night. He almost killed Cynthia over a game of monopoly
Always got to lick the spoon first after his mom baked brownies
He grew up in North Jersey (derogatory) (also yes im projecting state shot)
He’s also Italian (derogatory)
He got bullied in middle school for a little bit but once his older sisters found out, oh boy did all hell break loose
Was in band in high school. He played flute (DONT TALK TO ME I LIKE PROJECTING), he was of course a soloist and incredibly smug about it
Took gymnastics as a kid. Can do a backflip on command. Also very flexible.
First manager gig was helping his sisters sell girl scout cookies. They raked in a lot of profits when baby bro was behind the scenes. His cut was eating thin mints for free
Loved Star Trek when he was a kid
Was incredibly gifted, and taught himself to read at a young age. didn’t talk that much though
was always sick when he was little. he would always get sinus infections and colds if someone even sneezed weird
was in mock trial in high school. one guy on his team was a jerk to him so charles made it a point to be this poor kid’s nemesis
was on the student council, treasurer of course.
was also in nhs, and he was treasurer there too
was that kid who insisted on doing the group project by himself because he didn’t want to wait on anyone to finish their part
was super rowdy as a kid, always got into trouble but his mom was a little lenient of punishment (hes a mommas boy)
when he was like super young he bit people cause he was just a little monster (charles' sisters: mom charles is biting again. charles, biting one of them: im not :/ sheesh)
wanted to be a lawyer since he was 7
put his own siblings and parents on trial and would win every trial and would always get the last cookie or a higher allowance
he shared his room with his sister Charlotte and they would set up a pillow fort on one of the beds and stay up late reading together
loved going to the beach as a kid, his mom still has his collection of shells from the beach
on the boardwalk, he would dominate at claw machines anad carnival games. he won a bunch of plushies from himself (and his sisters obviously)
his dad and him have a super close bond. they watched star trek together and also like to watch how the stock market would do. his dad was also sometimes the judge in charles’ mock trials at home
they were very supportive when he came out as gay, he was also the first of his sibilings to come out of the closet
College
Got his masters in business management at rutgers and a JD (law degree) from seton hall law.
Started college when he was 18 (1983) and ended college when he was 26 (1991)
Wasn’t a party guy. Never got invited to many, but he never went unless a certain redhead was in town
Sustained himself off of ramen, coffee, and SSRIs to get his masters (hey man i feel ya)
Did weed like three times. Three of those times were because of, you guessed it, a certain redhead
Speaking of, his first time having sex was in his dorm with Pickles. Pickles also kicked him off of the bed (those beds are fucking tiny) while they slept, and almost burned Charles’ dorm down trying to make toast the next morning
Absolute did not do essays until the night before. Bad habit that made it’s way into Dethklok managing when he’s forced to write a legal brief before 12 am.
Loved calculus 2 for some reason. Nerd
Had a mullet. Pickles thought it was hot (still is) while Charles would rather die than remember anything about that horrid hairdo
Also went through his goth/emo phase while in Law School. He stuck out amongst the sea of sweater vests and polo shirts
Was in a band with his fellow college bandmates. The band was called Habeas Corpses and he was the lead singer who also played guitar. Their sound was kind of similar to TWRP’s first two EPs (The Device and 2nite). they had a grunge aesthetic, and yes charles dyed his mullet black (with a purple streak), for the band.
his bandmates were all fellow law students. dillan was on drums, margaret was their bass guitar, and nick was their keyboardist. all three of them also got tutored by charles while in law school. they are still best friends and write to each other sometimes
Was on the debate team, but uh kicked off due to be very competitive (he threatened to punch the opposing debater)
Was also in the chess club, also kicked off for being too competitive (lunged at a kid for cheating)
After being kicked from the two previous clubs, he joined fencing, his very competitive nature made him the best in the state
nick (the guy in charles’ band) was charles’ roommate the whole time they were in college. they may or may not have had a brief relationship before they realized they would be better as friends
nick also has a nes and charles loved to played zelda and wrote an entire guide for himself because he’s was that into the game (nerd)
occasionally would be found sleeping in the library on campus
wanted to be an RA but the resident association at his schools thought he was a little much. charles took this as a compliment
worked out a lot between studying and classes. a lot of jocks underestimated him because of his size but charles was just :) [casually lifts something heavy]
a lot of fellow classmates thought he was super cool cause of the leather he wore, and how cool and quiet he was, too bad they didnt know he was a huge nerd
tried skateboarding. once.
had a cadillac that barely started and drove like a piece of shit but that was charles’ baby
pickles tried to have sex with charles in said car btw, charles almost killed him for even daring to suggest to tarnish his beautiful baby
has damaged his back permanently because of all the books he used to carry around in his crappy back pack
did some modelling for one of his friends in college. he was very attractive and got some other modelling job through it. he tries to hide that from the boys in the future because he thinks it’s embarrassing
Relationship with Dethklok
Pickles - he’s known the drummer the longest out of any other member, and if you couldn’t tell by now, he had a brief relationship with the drummer back in the 80s (and maybe also still has a crush on him :)). charles respects and admires pickles’ talent as a musician and sometimes they play together when they have time alone. he tries to be there when pickles has a relapse in either emotions with his family or something else, but still tries to maintain a distance because he thinks that pickles doesn’t feel the same as he did in the 80s. (he does btw). nothing could break the bond these two share. not even death
Nathan - understands nathan’s quiet nature (nonverbal kings!) and strive for perfection in everything dethklok creates because he is the same way. their similarities allow them to connect on a level that allows nathan to open up about his feelings that he likes to lock away. nathan also gets charles to open his feelings up and actually care for himself for once in his damn life. charles also helps nathan with the depression he develops after charles dies and how to deal with it despite it being not brutal. nathan wants to give back and he does by becoming one of charles’ closest friends (and maybe even lovers hehehe)
Toki - charles has taken it upon himself to be toki’s father figure after seeing the way toki’s family has left him for essentially dead. ever since toki joined the band, charles has made it a point to be there for him whenever he needed it. even if it meant spending late nights reading to toki or sleeping over in toki’s room to help him sleep, he’ll do it. he blames himself for toki’s disappearance but toki assures him that he did the best he could. toki calls him dad a lot after doomstar. it makes charles cry.
Skwisgaar - unstoppable asshole meets immovable object. skwisgaar sees himself above everyone else like he does with the other dethklok members but with charles, skwisgaar knows that charles isn’t intimidated by him nor will he bow to the guitar god in anyway. this develops a game of cat and mouse between the two, with skwisgaar trying to no subtly push charles’ buttons and to see what makes him ticks, while charles resist him at every turn with a smug ‘:) is that all you got’ and it delights him to finally see the guitarist squirm under pressure.
Murderface - at first the two are very. distant to say the least. murderface used to see charles as unemotional robot and charles was fine with that and accepted the distance. overtime however, and especially after charles died, murderface warmed up to charles confiding in him things he hasn’t told the band, mainly things about his insecurities because charles is ‘fucking smart with crap like this’. and charles helps him and is happy to see him work out his problems and not bottle them anymore like the rest of his bandmates. charles also enjoys murderface’s company as a friend as well. and….he’s gonna help murderface the most with the whole traitor stuff too.
Abigail - mlm and wlw hostility. but seriously they’re good buds. he sympathizes with having to deal the moronic actions of dethklok on a daily basis and also thinks she’s really intelligent and overall fun to hang out with. they take lunch breaks frequently together and like to make fun of people at dethklok dinners together as a fun activity together. abigail will bully his ass once she finds out she’s dating charles’ sister and WILL bring up those baby pictures to get a higher raise thank you very much
Knubbler - can you say coworker besties! like abigail, he gets along because they both have to deal with dethklok being, well dethklok, but with knubbler, charles can relax a little more. the two cause problems on purpose just because they can. the two are also close friends and knubbler tries to get charles to relax for once in his life, and despite charles protests and objections, he sometimes caves and hands out with his friend (maybe boyfriend OOOOO who knows)
Sex Headcanons (IM SORRY)
um maybe he can have a giant dick (10 inches for me), it do be swinging though
daddy kink (everyone stay on this side, ill take care of him….come to daddy ;)c)
likes to do roleplay. he has a lot of costumes prepared for when his partner wants to do a scene with him
likes to bite and be bitten during sex. after a very long night, he’ll be covered in bite marks, it’s kinda hot
no gag reflex ;) he likes to deepthroat but good luck trying to get him to go down on you without him teasing
remember how i said he was flexible like eight times? yeah he uh, uses that a lot to his advantage. likes being fucked in weird positions because of it
the suit stays on during sex
he likes topping because he likes to be in control of everything he does all the time, but really wants to be told what to do sometimes and will let those he trusts do that for him
he has a dick piercing i know it
he's a very busy man, so he relies on his huge collection of toys he keeps in his bedroom and office
really good with his hands. as soon as those hands are on you, its game over
he loves to do it on his desk, makes him feel powerful. when he gets blown under his desk, it really takes all of his willpower to not cum immediately
really sensitive in weird places, specifically his ears
he likes to cuddle after sex, hes the little spoon :)
likes to be tied up, sometimes he’ll get tied up under his suit
mating press and riding are his favorite positions, giving and receiving
size queen, likes large toys and well ;)
has a private room that he sometimes goes to relieve stress, it has a fucking machine that he likes to use often when his job gets too stressful
he’s sucking people off at the klokateer glory hole, he’s uh, very good at what he does
likes to be spanked and like to spank
uses collars and leashes
maybe the klokateers can fuck him, if they’re good ;)
freeballing
likes cum on his face but doesn't seem to realize that means he’ll get cum on his glasses and will need to clean them
he can wear a chastity belt :) for me
likes being came in but will still complain about being gross after
pretty much up for anything, he’s not picky, he just wants to be in control and get off

Today we remember the passing of Joey Ramone who Died: April 15, 2001 in Manhattan, New York
Jeffrey Ross Hyman, known professionally as Joey Ramone, was an American musician, singer, composer, and lead vocalist of the punk rock band the Ramones. Joey Ramone's image, voice, and tenure as frontman of the Ramones made him a countercultural icon.
Jeffrey Ross Hyman was born on May 19, 1951, in Queens, New York City, New York to a Jewish family. His parents were Charlotte (née Mandell) and Noel Hyman. He was born with a parasitic twin growing out of his back, which was incompletely formed and surgically removed. The family resided in Forest Hills, Queens, where Hyman and his future Ramones bandmates attended Forest Hills High School. He grew up with his brother Mickey Leigh. Though happy, Hyman was something of an outcast, diagnosed at 18 with obsessive–compulsive disorder alongside being diagnosed with schizophrenia. His mother, Charlotte Lesher, divorced her first husband, Noel Hyman. She married a second time but was widowed by a car accident while she was on vacation.
Hyman was a fan of the Beatles, the Who, David Bowie, and the Stooges among other bands, particularly oldies and the Phil Spector-produced "girl groups". His idol was Pete Townshend of the Who, with whom he shared a birthday. Hyman took up the drums at 13, and played them throughout his teen years before picking up an acoustic guitar at age 17.
In 1974, Jeffrey Hyman co-founded the punk rock band the Ramones with friends John Cummings and Douglas Colvin. Colvin was already using the pseudonym "Dee Dee Ramone" and the others also adopted stage names using "Ramone" as their surname: Cummings became Johnny Ramone and Hyman became Joey Ramone. The name "Ramone" stems from Paul McCartney: he briefly used the stage name "Paul Ramon" during 1960/1961, when the Beatles, still an unknown five-piece band called the Silver Beetles, did a tour of Scotland and all took up pseudonyms; and again on the 1969 Steve Miller album Brave New World, where he played the drums on one song using that name.
Joey initially served as the group's drummer while Dee Dee Ramone was the original vocalist. However, when Dee Dee's vocal cords proved unable to sustain the demands of consistent live performances, Ramones manager Thomas Erdelyi suggested Joey switch to vocals. Mickey Leigh: "I was shocked when the band came out. Joey was the lead singer and I couldn't believe how good he was. Because he'd been sitting in my house with my acoustic guitar, writing these songs like 'I Don't Care', fucking up my guitar, and suddenly he's this guy on stage who you can't take your eyes off of." After a series of unsuccessful auditions in search of a new drummer, Erdelyi took over on drums, assuming the name Tommy Ramone.
The Ramones were a major influence on the punk rock movement in the United States, though they achieved only minor commercial success. Their only record with enough U.S. sales to be certified gold in Joey's lifetime was the compilation album Ramones Mania. Recognition of the band's importance built over the years, and they are now regularly represented in many assessments of all-time great rock music, such as the Rolling Stone lists of the 50 Greatest Artists of All Time and 25 Greatest Live Albums of All Time, VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock, and Mojo's 100 Greatest Albums. In 2002, the Ramones were voted the second greatest rock and roll band ever in Spin, behind the Beatles.
In 1996, after a tour with the Lollapalooza music festival, the band played their final show and then disbanded.
Ramone's signature cracks, hiccups, snarls, crooning, and youthful voice made him one of punk rock's most recognizable voices. Allmusic.com wrote that "Joey Ramone's signature bleat was the voice of punk rock in America." As his vocals matured and deepened through his career, so did the Ramones' songwriting, leaving a notable difference from his initial melodic and callow style—two notable tracks serving as examples are "Somebody Put Something in My Drink" and "Mama's Boy". Dee Dee Ramone was quoted as saying "All the other singers in New York were copying David Johansen (New York Dolls), who was copying Mick Jagger... But Joey was unique, totally unique."
In 1985, Ramone joined Steven Van Zandt's music industry activist group Artists United Against Apartheid, which campaigned against the Sun City resort in South Africa. Ramone and 49 other recording artists – including Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Keith Richards, Lou Reed and Run DMC — collaborated on the song "Sun City", in which they pledged they would never perform at the resort.
In 1994, Ramone appeared on the Helen Love album Love and Glitter, Hot Days and Music, singing the track "Punk Boy". Helen Love returned the favor, singing on Ramone's song "Mr. Punchy".
In October 1996, Ramone headlined the "Rock the Reservation" alternative rock festival in Tuba City, Arizona. 'Joey Ramone & the Resistance' debuted Ramone's interpretation of Louis Armstrong's "Wonderful World' live, as well as Ramone's choice of Ramones classics and some of his other favorite songs; The Dave Clark Five's "Any Way You Want It", The Who's "The Kids are Alright" and The Stooges' "No Fun."
Ramone co-wrote and recorded the song "Meatball Sandwich" with Youth Gone Mad. For a short time before his death, he took the role of manager and producer for the punk rock band the Independents.
His last recording as a vocalist was backup vocals on the CD One Nation Under by the Dine Navajo rock group Blackfire. He appeared on two tracks, "What Do You See" and "Lying to Myself". The 2002 CD won "Best Pop/Rock Album of the Year" at the 2002 Native American Music Awards.
Ramone produced the Ronnie Spector album She Talks to Rainbows in 1999. It was critically acclaimed but was not very commercially successful. The title track was previously on the Ramones' final studio album, ¡Adios Amigos!.
Joey Ramone died at the age of 49 following a seven-year battle with lymphoma at New York-Presbyterian Hospital on April 15, 2001, a month before he would have turned 50. He was reportedly listening to the song "In a Little While" by U2 when he died. In an interview in 2014 for Radio 538, U2 lead singer Bono confirmed that Joey Ramone's family told him that Ramone listened to the song before he died, which Andy Shernoff (The Dictators) also confirmed.
His solo album Don't Worry About Me was released posthumously in 2002, and features the single "What a Wonderful World", a cover of the Louis Armstrong standard. MTV News claimed: "With his trademark rose-colored shades, black leather jacket, shoulder-length hair, ripped jeans and alternately snarling and crooning vocals, Joey was the iconic godfather of punk."
On November 30, 2003, a block of East 2nd Street in New York City was officially renamed Joey Ramone Place. It is the block where Hyman once lived with bandmate Dee Dee Ramone and is near the former site of the music club CBGB, where the Ramones began their career. Hyman's birthday is celebrated annually by rock 'n' roll nightclubs, hosted in New York City by his brother and, until 2007, his mother, Charlotte. Joey Ramone is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Lyndhurst, New Jersey.
The Ramones were named as inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2002.
Several songs have been written in tribute to Joey Ramone. Tommy, CJ and Marky Ramone and Daniel Rey came together in 2002 to record Jed Davis' Joey Ramone tribute album, The Bowery Electric. Other tributes include "Hello Joe" by Blondie from the album The Curse of Blondie, "Drunken Angel" by Lucinda Williams, "You Can't Kill Joey Ramone" by Sloppy Seconds, Joey by Raimundos, "I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone" by Sleater-Kinney, "Red and White Stripes" by Moler and "Joey" by the Corin Tucker Band, "I Heard Ramona Sing" by Frank Black, Amy Rigby's "Dancin' With Joey Ramone" and "The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)" by U2.
In September 2010, the Associated Press reported that "Joey Ramone Place," a sign at the corner of Bowery and East Second Street, was New York City's most stolen sign. Later, the sign was moved to 20 ft (6.1 m) above ground level. Drummer Marky Ramone thought Joey would appreciate that his sign would be the most stolen, adding "Now you have to be an NBA player to see it."
After several years in development, Ramone's second posthumous album was released on May 22, 2012. Titled ...Ya Know?, it was preceded on Record Store Day by a 7" single re-release of "Blitzkrieg Bop"/"Havana Affair"

A Vigil, On Birds and Glass. I woke up this morning still dreaming, or not fully aware of myself just yet. The sun poked through the windows, touching my face, and then a deep sadness overcame me, immediately, bringing me to life and realization- My Chemical Romance had ended. I walked downstairs to do the only thing I could think of to regain composure- I made coffee. As the drip began, in that kind of silence that only happens in the morning, and being the only one awake, I stepped outside my home, leaving the door open behind me. I looked around and began to breathe. Things looked to be about the same- a beautiful day. As I turned to step back into the house I heard sound from within, a chirp and a rustle. And I noticed a small brown bird had flown into the library. Naturally, I panicked. I knew I had to see the bird to safety and I knew I had to retain the order of things in our home, and he very well couldn’t take up residency with us. I chased him (still assuming he was a he) into my office, where I have these very large windows. Just then, and luckily, I heard Lindsey’s footsteps coming down the stairs, and naturally being composed as she is, she grabbed a blanket and stepped into the office. He was impossible to catch, and I began to open the windows, via Lindsey’s direction, only to find out they were screened. The bird began to fly into the glass, over and over and in all different directions. Smack. Smack. Smack! I heard another set of footsteps, Bandit’s, running down the stairs in anticipation of the new day. Her entrance into the situation caused just the right amount of chaos (she was very excited to meet the bird) and we found ourselves chasing the bird into the living room. Knowing that this where it could potentially get sticky, being the high ceilings and the beams to perch on, I opened the front door as Lindsey did her best to encourage our new friend out the door. After some coaxing, flying, chirping, a wrong turn back into the library and a short goodbye to Bandit, he simply hopped out the front door- taking off on the fifth leap. We cheered. I was no longer sad. I didn’t realize it, but I stopped being sad the minute that bird had come into my life, because there was something that needed doing, a small vessel to aid and an order to keep. I closed the door. I decided to write the letter I always knew I would. It is often my nature to be abstract, hidden in plain sight, or nowhere at all. I have always felt that the art I have made (alone or with friends) contains all of my intent when executed properly, and thus, no explanation required. It is simply not in my nature to excuse, explain, or justify any action I have taken as a result of thinking it through with a clear head, and in my truth. I had always felt this situation involving the end of this band would be different, in the eventuality it happened. I would be cryptic in its existence, and open upon its death. The clearest actions come from truth, not obligation. And the truth of the matter is that I love every one of you. So, if this finds you well, and sheds some light on anything, or my personal account and feelings on the matter, then it is out of this love, mutual and shared, not duty. Love. This was always my intent. My Chemical Romance: 2001-2013 We were spectacular. Every show I knew this, every show I felt it with or without external confirmation. There were some clunkers, sometimes our secondhand gear broke, sometimes I had no voice- we were still great. It is this belief that made us who we were, but also many other things, all of them vital- And all of the things that made us great were the very things that were going to end us- Fiction. Friction. Creation. Destruction. Opposition. Aggression. Ambition. Heart. Hate. Courage. Spite. Beauty. Desperation. LOVE. Fear. Glamour. Weakness. Hope. Fatalism. That last one is very important. My Chemical Romance had, built within its core, a fail-safe. A doomsday device, should certain events occur or cease occurring, would detonate. I shared knowledge of this “flaw” within weeks of its inception. Personally, I embraced it because, again, it made us perfect. A perfect machine, beautiful, yet self aware of it’s system. Under directive to terminate before it becomes compromised. To protect the idea- at all costs. This probably sounds like something ripped from the pages of a four-color comic book, and that’s the point. No compromise. No surrender. No fucking shit. To me that’s rock and roll. And I believe in rock and roll. I wasn’t shy about who I said this to, not the press, or a fan, or a relative. It’s in the lyrics, it’s in the banter. I often watched the journalists snicker at mention of it, assuming I was being sensational or melodramatic (in their defense I was most likely dressed as an apocalyptic marching-band leader with a tear-away hospital gown and a face covered in expressionist paint, so fair enough). I’m still not sure if the mechanism worked correctly, because it wasn’t a bang but a much slower process. But still the same result, and still for the same reason- When it’s time, we stop. It is important to understand that for us, the opinion on whether or not it is in fact time does not transmit from the audience. Again, this is to protect the idea for the benefit of the audience. Many a band have waited for external confirmation that it is time to hang it up, via ticket sales, chart positioning, boos and bottles of urine- input that holds no sway for us, and often too late when it comes anyway. You should know it in your being, if you listen to the truth inside you. And voice inside became louder than the music. Now- There are many reasons My Chemical Romance ended. The triggerman is unimportant, as was always the messengers- but the message, again as always, is the important thing. But to reiterate, this is my account, my reasons and my feelings. And I can assure you there was no divorce, argument, failure, accident, villain, or knife in the back that caused this, again this was no one’s fault, and it had been quietly in the works, whether we knew it or not, long before any sensationalism, scandal, or rumor. There wasn’t even a blaze of glory in a hail of bullets… I am backstage in Asbury Park, New Jersey. It is Saturday, May 19th, 2012 and I am pacing behind a massive black curtain that leads to the stage. I feel the breeze from the ocean find its way around me and I look down at my arms, which are covered in fresh gauze due to a losing battle with a heat rash, which had been a mysterious problem in recent months. I am normally not nervous before a show but I am certainly filled with angry butterflies most of the time. This is different- a strange anxiety jetting through me that I can only imagine is the sixth sense one feels before their last moments alive. My pupils have zeroed-out and I have ceased blinking. My body temperature is icy. We get the cue to hit the stage. The show is… good. Not great, not bad, just good. The first thing I notice take me by surprise is not the enormous amount of people in front of us but off to my left- the shore and the vastness of the ocean. Much more blue than I remembered as a boy. The sky is just as vibrant. I perform, semi-automatically, and something is wrong. I am acting. I never act on stage, even when it appears that I am, even when I’m hamming it up or delivering a soliloquy. Suddenly, I have become highly self-aware, almost as if waking from a dream. I began to move faster, more frantic, reckless- trying to shake it off- but all it began to create was silence. The amps, the cheers, all began to fade. All that what left was the voice inside, and I could hear it clearly. It didn’t have to yell- it whispered, and said to me briefly, plainly, and kindly- what it had to say. What it said is between me and the voice. I ignored it, and the following months were full of suffering for me- I hollowed out, stopped listening to music, never picked up a pencil, started slipping into old habits. All of the vibrancy I used to see became de-saturated. Lost. I used to see art or magic in everything, especially the mundane- the ability was buried under wreckage. Slowly, once I had done enough damage to myself, I began to climb out of the hole. Clean. When I made it out, the only thing left inside was the voice, and for the second time in my life, I no longer ignored it- because it was my own. There are many roles for all of us to play in this ending. We can be well-wishers, ill-wishers, sympathizers, vilifiers, comedians, rain clouds, victims- That last one, again, is important. I have never thought myself a victim, nor my comrades, nor the fans- especially not the fans. For us to adopt that role right now would legitimize everything the tabloids have tried to name us. More importantly, it completely misses the point of the band. And then what have we learned? With honor, integrity, closure, and on no one’s terms but our own- the door closes. And another opens- This morning I awoke early. I quickly brushed my teeth, threw on some baggy jeans, and hopped in my car. I gently sped down the 405 through the morning fog to a random parking lot in Palo Verde, where I was to meet a nice gentleman named Norm. He was older, and a self-proclaimed “hippie” but he also had the energy of Sixteen year old in a garage-rock band. The purpose of the meeting was the delivery of an amplifier into my possession. I had recently purchased the amp from him and we both agreed that shipping would jostle the tubes- so he was kind enough to meet me in the middle. A Fender Princeton Amp from 1965, non reverb. A beautiful little device. He showed me the finer points, the speaker, the non-grounded plug, the original label and the chalk mark of the man or woman who built it- “This amp talks.” he said. I smiled. We got coffee, talked about gold-foil pickups and life. We sat in the car and played each other music we had made. We parted ways, promising to stay in touch, I drove home. When I wanted to start My Chemical Romance, I began by sitting in my parent’s basement, picking up an instrument I had long abandoned for the brush- a guitar. It was a 90’s Fender Mexican Stratocaster, Lake Placid Blue, but in my youth I had decided it was too clean and pretty so I beat it up, exposing some of the red paint underneath the blue- the color it was meant to be. Adding a piece of duct tape on the pick guard, it felt acceptable. I plugged this into a baby Crate Amp with built in distortion and began the first chords of Skylines and Turnstiles. I still have that guitar, and it’s sitting next to The Princeton. He has a voice, and I would like to hear what it has to say. In closing, I want to thank every single fan. I have learned from you, maybe more than you think you’ve learned from me. My only regret is that I am awful with names and bad with goodbyes. But I never forget a face, or a feeling- and that is what I have left from all of you. I feel Love. I feel love for you, for our crew, our team, and for every single human being I have shared the band and stage with- Ray. Mikey. Frank. Matt. Bob. James. Todd. Cortez. Tucker. Pete. Michael. Jarrod. Since I am bad with goodbyes. I refuse to let this be one. But I will leave you with one last thing- My Chemical Romance is done. But it can never die. It is alive in me, in the guys, and it is alive inside all of you. I always knew that, and I think you did too. Because it is not a band- it is an idea. Love, Gerard

Mapping U.S. State and Canadian Province data. Part 41: Traffic Fatalities.
turbopony:
I am doing a series of maps to compare Canadian provinces with U.S. states. I hope you like them and if you have any ideas of maps you'd like to see, feel free to suggest in the comments!
This map shows the number of traffic fatalities per billion kilometers driven. Per distance traveled, Americans are more likely to die than Canadians. This may have to do with culture, speed limits, different car models/ages, and the fact that Americans are less likely to wear seatbelts. Generally speaking, people rarely die in low-speed car crashes which means the more urban the population the less likely (because of lower speeds in cities).
In Canada, Ontario (4.0), Nova Scotia (4.2) and Quebec (4.6) are the lowest. The highest provincial rate is Saskatchewan (8.7). The highest rate overall however is Nunavut (51) which is incredibly high (like to close to world maximum high). This may owe to a very small number of cars, driven very infrequently, with high likelihood of dangerous accidents on ice. In the United States, the highest rates are in the South and mountain states, especially South Carolina (11.5), Mississippi (10.5) and Kentucky (10.5). The lowest rates are in Minnesota (4.1) and the Northeast: Massachusetts (3.9), Rhode Island (4.0), and New Jersey (4.8).
