#after the nurses tried to insist the pt was faking their pain

i just saw a tik tok of a nurse explaining what to do in case of hyperkalemia. the first comment on the video?
"good thing im in psych cuz i dont get all of that" and then a bunch of people agreeing
like...you do realize...the psych ward is STILL A WARD IN A HOSPITAL, psych patients STILL DESERVE AND NEED THE BASIC CARE ALL OTHER FACILITIES PROVIDE, and electrolyte imbalances ARE something to watch out for (can be the underlying cause for acute psych symptoms like confusion)?????
im so tired of psychiatry being undervalued like this, and seeing people like that working in the system with vulnerable patients makes me sick

Overhaul’s waiting list: @jjk-biased @infinite-universe-love @dirtypride @blackymomo03 @azzie @purple-rabanito
Tumblr media
“I’m sorry but Endeavor’s schedule is still full. If you’d like to set a meeting with him, it would have to wait till next week.” Burnin answered over the phone.
It was now 2 days since the rather nice date with the chief. You could’ve done this yesterday but the chief had insisted you take the day off. Not sure what his intentions were, you took the opportunity nonetheless. Spending it with your family was the best choice. (Mostly for Nomura’s cooking though...)
Now, you were nested in your cubicle. Face buried in a day’s pile of delayed work. Disappointed that the arson case would have to be moved once more. Maybe the HPSC would take interest in this? Probably not. Still, you wrote down a note to call Mera just in case you were sick and tired of the dead ends.
“In that case, schedule me a 20 minute meeting with him. You can choose when and what time.” You replied and ended the call.
Looking at the time, it was almost lunch and you were set to meet with Gei. His workplace was only 10 minutes from your area and you could afford to take your time knowing this day wasn’t as heavy as the rest. Your phone dinged with a notification from the man himself.
Gei is the Best: Honey boo boo. Is it alright if you drop by the hospital first? I have this patient that just WON'T sit still for the love Beyonce >:(
You: Sure :) Need me to lower his BP? That might do the trick.
Gei is the Best: YAS! YOU DA BEST. Imma inform the receptionist. See you in a few! Lunch is on me <3
Taking your things, you informed Tsukauchi that you’d be out for the rest of the day. Upon hearing Gei’s name, he chuckled and asked for you to wait. Opening his desk drawer, he handed you a sealed envelope and told you to hand it to him.
“What’s this?”
“It’s some pictures of a recent guy I caught. He might find the man’s composition interesting. His quirk was body manipulation. It somehow failed and his quirk backfired on him. Try to imagine a human pretzel except… you can’t untangle him.” Tsukauchi explained. The slight look of amused disgust on his face.
“He does find these things interesting. So you’ll be asking him to fix the guy?”
“Yeah. Called him a while ago so he’ll be expecting that.”
After a few more small talk, you excused yourself and made your way to your car. Everything was going well till you saw the chief talking with another officer. Not wanting to have a chat with him, you turned and took the long way towards the parking area.
Now that you were on the road, you stopped at a red light and wore your ear piece. Using your car’s touch screen monitor, you clicked on Overhaul’s contact. It was lunch time, he surely didn’t have any schemes at this time.
“Problem child.” He answered after the second ring.
“Birdman.” You smiled at the pet names. “When are you free to test the earpiece?”
“Unfortunately my schedule is full today. Would tomorrow work?”
“Sure. What time are you available?”
“Lunch will do. Drop by the Shie Hassaikai. We can eat together.”
You did not intend to but your foot stepped on the brakes. Did you just hear him right? The car behind you honked his horn and that made you snap out of your daze. Remembering that he was still on the other line, you shook your head and tried to contain your curiosity.
“You’re not going to kidnap me, are you?”
“I’m more than capable of doing so.” The slight rise of his tone made your stomach feel ticklish. Your hands now held tightly on to the steering wheel, waiting for his next words. “But I’d rather not.”
“(favorite food). And you have a deal.” You turned towards the nearing hospital. Your mouth silently repeated ‘oh my god’ till you saw a parking spot.
“Till then, Problem child.”
When the call ended, you slammed on the brakes once more and shrieked. Feeling your blood pressure rising from the conversation, you placed your hand on your chest. A faint blue glow forming on your palms. Your rapid beating heart and incoming hyperventilation died down.
“Holy shit. It’s been a while since I used that on myself.”
Stepping out of the car, you walked towards the entrance of the hospital. The guard grinned as he saw you approaching. He knew who you were so you were able to skip the log book. Passing by the receptionist, she greeted you and said Gei was waiting in his office.
In the hallway, you could hear the sounds of shoes running around and a few announcements every now and then. Stopping at a window, you observed a few nurses helping some patients. Most of them had tubes connected to their bodies but none of them looked to be in pain. The machines inside were white and you could see how the liquids were gently shaking.
“OH MY LORD!” You turned around and looked at the direction of the scream. “WILL YOU SIT STILL?! I SWEAR TO THE ALMIGHTY FATHER JAY-Z, IF YOU DO NOT SIT STILL I WILL HAVE TO USE THIS ON YOU!”
Running towards his office, you immediately opened the door only to find Gei in his white coat. His hair a shriveled mess, a syringe with clear white liquid, and the patient hiding behind the sofa.
“Gei?”
“Close the door baby girl!” He yelled and lunged towards the patient. Somehow he was able to grab a hold of the hospital gown. Tugging the male into his hold, he turned to face you. “Your quirk please!”
Not wanting to anger Gei, you hurriedly made your way to the two people. Placing your hand on to the male’s chest, both of you saw how his shoulders relaxed. The crazed demeanor was now replaced with one of calm. You felt a tug on your palm and quickly adjusting your control, you increased his blood pressure till he was deemed stable.
You and Gei led the man to the sofa to where he sat down. Keeping your hand on his chest, you maintained control as Gei did his usual magic. Now that you were able to assess the patient, you saw the dislocation his arm had. His sleeves had hidden it from sight.
Watching as your friend used his quirk, the dislocation began to fix itself till it was finally back to normal.
“Now that that’s over with, put him to sleep boo.” Gei said while he walked towards his desk and paged a nurse to come get the patient.
Lowering the blood pressure even more, you felt the patient losing his consciousness. When his head fell, you had finished your job. Making him lean onto the sofa, you closed his eyelids and observed his breathing. It was steady and even. Not long after, a soft snore erupted from the sleeping man.
“What exactly just happened?”
“The way his arm was dislocated made it rather painful. Told him if he would relax, I could ease the pain by a tiny bit. Lord of quirks, the man panicked and began his episode.” Gei explained as he fixed his coat and poured alcohol into his palms. When the nurse arrived, he assisted in carrying the patient into the bed.
“Busy day?” You relaxed on to the chair and held a throw pillow.
“Oh honey no. Nothing I can’t handle. Your presence only made things quicker.” He exaggerated a wink. “Remind me why you didn’t pursue the medical world?”
“I retain information badly. And to top it off, my quirk just makes me into a human sphygmomanometer. It’s helpful but it works better with the police force in times of raids.”
“Well, if yo happy with yo job then do what you do boo.” Taking his coat off, he hung it on his chair and began to keep the files and paper works. Remembering the file in your bag, you reached for it and tossed it onto his table. When Gei saw the penmanship, he nodded and placed it in his drawer. “Send him my thanks and a hug as well~”
Now that Gei was ready, the both of you were now walking in the lobby. A bunch of other nurses greeted him with his hard earned title. Doctor.
“Dr. Hanayaka. Don’t forget your appointment with patient 247 later today.”
“Yes yes. I have it on my sched. Now puh-leaz! I am on break and I need to refresh my beauty with this lady over here.” He winked at the nurse who simply shook her head with amusement. “Go do your thing now, love.”
“It’s amazing how they put up with you.” You commented as both of you exited the building.
“Of course~ I have the charm, the look, and the wits.” He snapped his finger with each description he had for himself. “All I need now is a man.”
Unlocking your car, the both of you got in and drove to the restaurant he had in mind. It wasn’t too far from both your offices so you didn’t mind. It didn’t take too long before you found yourself seated in a comfortable booth by the window with menus in hand. Choosing one of their best sellers, the waitress was quick to get your orders.
“So… how was the date two nights ago?” Gei was in full gossip mode now.
“It ended pretty well.” A smirk formed on your face.Recalling how the chief experienced a bad stomach ache was satisfying. “The food was fine and luckily he didn’t cause a scene since his food made his stomach go bad.”
“Who was he anyway?” He titled his head. He knew you were too busy to even casually date or even try one of those speed dating things. If there was one man he knew you were interested in but it was too obvious you were still blind that the feelings were growing. “You never told me his name, never mentioned how you met, or even his age. Did you meet in Sinder?”
“Don’t freak out or whatever.” Upon seeing him nodding his head, you let out a long and tired sigh. “It’s my chief.”
Gei held on to his chest and began to hyperventilate. His face morphed into one with disgust and disbelief. Even made fake puking sounds to add to his reaction.
“Oh. Heyll. No.” His voice went a range higher. “Sis. Why the hell you go out with that man? You ain’t got no daddy issues! And don’t go tellin’ me no man would take interest in you cause thaz bullshit.”
“It was either that or I get 10 more cases. I already have too much on my hands. Two of which are major.” You explained and sunk deeper onto the chair. “It’s fine, though. The dinner ended on a nice note. His stomach ache was just so bad that he practically pushed me out of his car.”
Gei’s mind went ticking. The chief asks you out on a date, the date ends on a disaster for him but a success for you. Staring at your happy face, he lifted his fleek eyebrow and placed one knee on top of the other. Leaning onto the arm rest and pouting.
“Tell me, baby girl, whatdyu the day before the date?”
“Me and the chief met up with Overhaul for a quick meeting. Then he got mad cause the chief cut me off and then he dropped me home to let me take a shower cause he said I smelled like him.”
“And what does your brain have to say about that?” Gei asked. A sly smile on his face.
“Not much.” You shrugged your shoulders. “He was right, though. I smelled like beetroots.”
“Oh good lord.” Gei uttered to himself. “Beyonce, if you’re out there, bless this oblivious woman…”
“BUT, the waiter at the restaurant was pretty attractive.” Seeing how Gei shimmied his shoulders and leaned in closer was always fun. “I didn’t get his name, though. However, he had pretty cool hair. Like, arrows for the ends.”
“In that case, imma make a reservation.” He smacked his lips just in time for the food to be served.
The rest of the meal was light and fun. Occasional teasing from him which you didn’t take to heart. You had asked him how his job was and his patients, he in turn asked for updates about cases you could speak freely about in public. Now that the food was gone, he reached for his neon pink wallet to hand over the payment.
“By the way, I’m free tomorrow.” He added with a slight jump. “Wanna stop by this new cafe that opened down the block?”
“I can't. I'm meeting Overhaul tomorrow.”
“You say that so casually as if he isn’t a class-B villain.” He pointed out. “Look me straight in the eye and tell me your heart doesn’t skip a beat when you see him.”
And you did. Straight up told him that it did not. However, you still told him that he would sometimes catch you off guard and end up stuttering or catching your breath. All you’re flamboyant friend could do was to send a prayer to his queen that you would one day realize that you were slowly falling for the villain.
Lucky for him, his prayers would be answered soon enough.
Sadly, it came with a cost.

.
Amy still could hear Shadow's 'I love you too' resonate within her head. It felt just too real to her. She recognized his tone of voice, she knew it was one of the times Shadow let himself be vulnerable.
What Amy took months to do, Maria did it in a few weeks.
But once again, they had more history together.
Amy had to admit that a part of her broke when she heard him say that. She thought that maybe she was just getting sick for not getting enough rest but ever since that day she felt a pain in her heart.
Maybe she needed to go to the hospital ... but on the other hand, that was too expensive.
Amy was on her break. It was a night shift and she decided to seat on the restaurant's booth to drink some coffee before her shift starts again.
It has been a week since Team Dark went on a mission and as Amy looked at her phone, she was happy to read a text message from Rouge. It said that their mission was going well and that they might come back earlier.
She took a sip of her coffee and she was feeling better but she completely panicked when he noticed no other than Maria entered the restaurant. Amy hid under the booth and to her luck, Maria sat next to the booth she was in.
From what Amy could tell, she was accompanied by a grey hedgehog. She didn't want to think anything about it, maybe they were just friends. Yes, that has to be it.
"I am so happy Shadow is out of the apartment," Maria said as she made herself comfortable on the booth.
"I am glad too, now we have the apartment all for ourselves." A masculine voice said and Amy deducted that it was the grey hedgehog she was with. "Now we can be together as long as we want."
Amy tried to contain herself, this didn't concern her. It shouldn't bother her, what happened in Shadow's relationship wasn't in her interest.
"I just wish he didn't make it back from his missions ... but Shadow is hard to kill." Maria added, "If he died, it will be way easier for us to steal his money than having me fake that I love him."
"Don't worry babe, let's steal and take his money as much as we can and then we can leave this city again."
They both share a kiss and parted, they noticed no one in the restaurant has come to them and ask for their orders.
"Can we have our orders taken!?" The grey hedgehog said loudly, he noticed a lady approaching them. "Finally, we were waiting!"
Amy gave them a fake smile, she didn't know how she was still controlling herself. She could even feel her face becoming warm at the anger she felt.
"Calm down Amy, wait until your shift is over. You can't lose this job. Just wait until you can kick their butts." Amy thought in an attempt to control herself.
"How may I help you?"
Maria turned her face and found Amy smiling at them, she felt threatened at that right moment.
"Oh, pinky. I didn't know you worked here." Maria said pretending that nothing had happened. "Let's me introduce you, this is-"
"I don't want to hear it," Amy responded. "Can I take your order?"
Maria looked up and down at Amy, judging her.
"You know, you should consider dressing nicer," Maria said sarcastically, "Maybe that way Shadow would try and look at you."
"But of course, Shadow has good taste." Maria added, "He would never look twice at an ugly waitress like you."
"Can I take your order? Or are you going to keep talking shit about how you are going to steal Shadow's money?" Amy asked.
Maria stood up as she forcibly put her hands on the table, her lover did the same.
"If you say something, you will regret it," said Maria but she sighed, underestimating her target. "But honestly, Shadow won't believe you."
"What makes you say that?"
"Shadow is completely in love with me." Maria let out a small laugh. "Do you know how annoying he actually is? He always talks to me about his days and his feelings and he can't take the hint that he bores the shit out of me! He is a total idiot!"
After that sentence, Maria felt Amy's hammer punching her face, she flew out of the restaurant's glass window, making it break. She didn't only felt her nose bleed but her body as well. She also had multiple cuts in her arms and legs due to the shattering crystal fragments.
Amy came out of the restaurant, she didn't care anymore. They could fire her for all she cares at the moment, the only thing she wanted to do was beat the hell out of the blond one.
But Amy wasn't going to have it easy.
Maria used to be a G.U.N. agent, top of her class. She was well trained and her grey boyfriend might as well be.
But Amy didn't care. She felt sadness and anger. Anger because Shadow was being betrayed and sad because she knew that this will just break Shadow.
Amy noticed Maria standing, a smile on her face.
"If you want to fight, let's fight."
.
Sonic walked around impatiently in the waiting room. It has been an hour since he got a call from the hospital. He arrived quickly and preoccupied that Amy's health was a risk.
"Family or friends of Amy Rose?" A nurse asked around the waiting room and to that, Sonic immediately wet to her.
"I am her friend, please take me to Amy."
The nurse nodded and Sonic was so desperate to get to the pink one that he was even thinking of carrying the nurse so they could go faster.
It didn't pass more than three minutes and they have already reached the room. The nursed open the door and Sonic stepped in. He thanked the nurse as she closed the door behind her, leaving the two hedgehogs alone.
He approached Amy who was sitting on a bed, he took a good look at her. Her nose had a bandage around it as well as other parts of her body. She had small scratches in her face, arms and legs, some of them still bled a little. Must of her bruises were on her legs. Finally, he also noticed that her right arm had a pretty long scratch as if a knife had caused it.
"What the hell happened?" Sonic snapped, although he had seen Amy worse, he still was dead worried about her.
"Nothing, I fell from the stairs of the Resistance-"
"I know when you lie Ames," Sonic added. "Tell me the truth."
Amy sighed, she knew that Sonic was going to push it until he had answers and she couldn't do anything but to oblige.
.
.
.
"And that's what happened, they got what they deserved." Amy added, "Sorry to worry you. I wouldn't have called you but they won't let me out of the hospital unless someone is with me."
Sonic understood Amy's action. He didn't know the whole story but from what Amy told him, Maria was a jerk. Sonic was aware of the close friendship Amy shared with Shadow and Amy was one to defend her friend to death.
"Let's go home."
.
Sonic would have carried Amy but he decided not too since carrying her had the possibility of opening her wounds.
They walked through the city instead. They decided that they will be staying over at Tail's house since the Resistance was too far away. Amy told Sonic she was completely fine to walk but he is just too stubborn. Sonic was serving as support for Amy. Amy was fine, she could walk by herself but Sonic just insisting too much. He lowkey had to admit that it was also a way to keep her close to him.
"Should I tell him?"
Sonic looked at Amy. Her face was filled with worriedness, her face looked down at the cold cement path they were walking in. He felt a small amount of jealousy running through his body. He was jealous that Shadow could make Amy feel all different emotions and he wasn't even aware of it.
"I think you should wait," Sonic responded. "He is at an important mission ... He might get distracted and do something reckless."
"And let the two getaway?"
"I am sure that whatever you did to them, it will make them stay a couple of days in the hospital," Sonic added. "Let's just get you somewhere to rest and we can think about this tomorrow."
Amy wasn't too fond of the idea but she felt comforted the moment he held her hand. These couple of past weeks, she had an internal battle within herself. She was having some type of new and unwanted feelings for Shadow. Although she still can't seem to figure out what that feeling is, she wasn't stopping it.
It was a nice feeling.
With Sonic it was different, she felt safe and comforted. She knew she could rely on him and he has proven himself that he cares for her. Her feeling towards him wasn't the same as Shadow.
Maybe because she saw Shadow as a close friend and Sonic as a friend or something more.
She found herself enjoying Shadow's company more, however. He let her see his soft sides. That day Shadow stayed to sleep at the Resistance, she noticed he would purr from time to time. She almost fainted at how adorable that was.
Shadow hasn't slept over at her home again, but she secretly wanted to see more of him.
When they got to Tail's house, he had everything set up already for Amy. Tails stopped himself from asking too many questions. Knowing Amy, she preferred to keep things to herself and she would say things when she was ready. Although, he was sure Sonic would explain later why Amy was in such a state.
Sonic stayed in her room until she was deep asleep. He gave her one last loving look and exited her room. He walked through the hall until he reached the living room, where he found Tails seating on the couch, waiting for answers.
"She got into a fight," Sonic said as if he could read the two tail fox's mind. "Shadow's girlfriend is cheating on him."
Sonic didn't want to disclose too much information. He didn't know if Amy wanted Tails to know and although Tails was his best friend, he still needed to wait for the approval of the pink one or wait until she told him the entire story.
"That sucks, does Shadow know?" Tails asked.
"No, we will decide if we should tell him tomorrow or when he comes back," Sonic added.
"We?" Tails teased Sonic and he could feel a quick wave of heat going to his cheeks.
"When are you to ask her?" Tails asked again changing the topic.
Sonic and Amy haven't talked about the kiss they shared. Sonic didn't want to pressure Amy and he knew that she was busy most of the time and probably didn't have too much time to think about those things. However, his patience was growing smaller and he began to wonder if asking was the right thing.
For him, there was no doubt, he loved her.
But he wasn't too sure if Amy felt the same as he did.
"I don't know ... I... am shy." Sonic said almost in a whisper.
"You are her long time crush, of course, she likes you back."
"That was a long time ago ... What if she doesn't feel the same now?"
"Sonic, feelings don't go away that easy."
Sonic felt relieved, he could agree with that with his friend. He let out a sigh, and Sonic found himself getting the confidence he needed. Tails was right, Sonic couldn't wait much longer, not now that he had tasted heaven. He couldn't let her go.
"After this whole thing with Shadow is done ... I'll ask her out."
.
A couple of days passed.
On the other side of the city, a black with red stripes hedgehog was ready to get back to his apartment. He couldn't wait to go back to the arms of his lover. His mission finished earlier than he expected and he was ready to jump to bed with the blond one who was waiting for him.
But instead, Shadow found...
nothing.

They Came from Outer Space: Pt. 1
The light was absolutely blinding as it zoomed across the night sky. Daniel slammed onto the brakes and rubbed his eyes to try and get his vision back. After blinking the daze away, he saw a trail of light overhead, apparently going toward the nearby park. Thank god he was the only one on the road right now, or else he might’ve hit someone. Who the hell was dumb enough to pull a stunt like that?
As much as he wanted to head home, a little voice told him to find out. So he made his way to the park, all while practicing what he would say in his head. Those assholes needed to be taught a lesson.
He slammed the car door on his way out. If they were nearby, he wanted them to know they were in deep shit. Then he huddled into himself and made his way onto the path. If he followed it, he’d surely find the fucker.
The strangest thing met his eyes after a couple minute of walking. It was a giant… Spaceship? He didn’t know- it looked like something he’d seen in a shitty sci-fi movie. And in front of it was some asshole in a purple body-suit. Even went so far as to glue fake eyes to their face.
Fucking LARPers.
“Hey, asshole!” he yelled, arms still tucked under each other. Too cold for this bullshit. “You make it a habit of blinding everyone in the city, or is tonight just special?”
They cocked their head, and all four of their eyes blinked at him. Huh. Guess they shelled out a lot of money for that.
“Got nothing to say?” he asked. “Look, I know how you fucking nerds are-” he was one himself- “but you need to cool it. I almost crashed my car and died, do you realize that?”
They only stared, eyes narrowed as if they were assessing him.
“Ugh, say something, for fuck’s sake!” he snapped, throwing his fists down. “Do you even know who I am? I’m a celebrity, if I had died, the whole fucking country would’ve been after your head!”
“A celebrity?” they asked, looking like the cat that had caught the canary.
“Yes, I’m a goddamn star,” he said, arms crossed and nose pointed up. “A talk show host and video game extraordinaire, beloved by millions!” He then pointed a finger accusingly at them. “And you almost killed me.”
The spaceship suddenly opened up. And that’s when he realized it was easily the size of a small house. And very… Real looking. Actual metal, working lights. Was it really this asshole’s house? Who let them live here?
“Come inside,” they said, gesturing to the ramp that raised up into the ship.
He raised an eyebrow at them. “...You better not murder me.”
“I won’t,” they huffed out, then gestured again, more insistent this time. “Now come on.”
A shiver ran through him and closed in on himself once more. Way too cold. And, well, something was telling him that he had crashed and this was some kind of coma dream anyway. So what was the harm?
“You owe me tea anyway,” he muttered under his breath as he passed by them.
The inside of the ship was warm, thank goodness. He took in all the weird machinery and flashing lights. It was almost like an arcade, which put him a little at ease.
Until the door closed behind him.
“Nope,” he said as he whipped around to face them. “I’m not staying here if that’s closed. Open it. Now.”
They blinked slowly. “No.”
“Then I’m gonna find a window and break out of here,” he warned, not nearly as confident in his plan as he sounded. “Just fucking watch me.”
“There aren’t any windows.”
Fuck.
“I’m gonna die here,” he muttered as he brought a hand up over his eyes. “Alone with some lunatic- what about my fans? My parents? I haven’t been home for Hanukkah in years, I need to call my mom before I go, fucking hell!”
Then something clicked shut around his neck, fingers brushing against his skin in a way that sent a shiver down his spine.
He moved his hands down and felt around the metal collar that rested there. Scowling, he glared at the dumbass and hissed, “What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”
“You’re my pet now,” they said happily, and gave him a pat on the head. “I own you.”
“The hell you do,” he bit out as he took a step back. “I own myself, and I’m not dealing with your stupid LARPing bullshit! Break character and act like a normal fucking human being!”
“But… I’m not human. And I don’t know what LARPing is.”
Great. Either this person what a lunatic, or this really was a coma dream. And he was hoping for the latter.
“LARPing,” he said slowly, because clearly they only had about five braincells, “is live-action role playing. It’s where you dress up-” he waved to their stupid costume for emphasis- “and pretend to be something you’re not. Which is fine, but there’s gotta be some point where you look at yourself and ask, ‘Am I taking this too far? Do I sound like a complete maniac right now?’ And surprise! The answer is yes.”
They looked confused, but nodded anyway. “Uh, okay.”
Coma dream. There was no way any of this could be real. No one on earth could be that fucking dumb.
“I’m going home now,” he announced with no room for argument. “Open the door.”
For a second, their eyes flicked down to the collar. Then they shrugged and pressed a button on the wall. “Alright.”
Well. That was unexpected. But he huffed and briskly made his way out of the weird hellhole he found himself in. Maybe after going to bed, he’d wake up and find himself in the hospital with his mom standing over him. But if not, well…
He’d deal with that later. Right now he just wanted to finally sleep.
Daniel’s eyes felt heavier when he opened them than they did when he closed them. Pain throbbed in the front of his head, and he let out a groan as he sat up. His day off and he had to nurse a fucking migraine. Wonderful. At least it didn’t have to deal with that nonsense he dreamt up…
Wait.
Something was on his neck.
...The goddamn collar.
So last night actually happened. He let some maniac put a collar on him. His heart skipped a beat and he threw the blanket off himself so he could get up and change that.
The screwdriver was a little hard to find- what the fuck did he even use it for anyway?- but as soon as he got his hands on it, he tried finding a spot on the collar to jam it into. Either he’d get it off, or he’d wind up stabbing himself and bleeding out on the kitchen floor. Either one sounded good at this point…
Just the a loud crash resounded through the house. Followed by footsteps. The maniac from last night ran into the kitchen, eyes wide in panic as they shouted, “No! Stop! Bad pet!”
“Get fucked!” he snapped back, jamming the screwdriver even harder into the collar. “I’m not your pet, I’m a goddamn person!”
They made some sort of strangled noise, and before he could even blink, the screwdriver was gone, and his wrists were held above his head by their hand. That fucking bastard.
“Let go!”
They stared him down for a long moment, then did so, keeping the screwdriver far away from him. He huffed and rubbed his wrists, with a few muttered curses thrown their way for good measure. He wanted them to know that he was not happy.
Especially not since they broke down his fucking door.
“I can’t believe this,” he muttered. “Now I have to call someone to come in and fix this, another lunatic could get into my house, fuck,  I have to call the police, this is the worst fucking day ever, someone needs to hurry up and kill me before I-”
“No,” they said as they picked him up and set him aside. “Don’t say that. Bad. Look, I’ll fix it.”
Oh really? He gave them an incredulous look, but you know what? Fine. If they wanted to fix it, he’d let them try. It’s not like they could break his door even more. It was already off the fucking hinges.
They left for what only could’ve been thirty seconds, and came back with… Something. Daniel had never seen anything like it before, and he couldn’t get a closer look before they started working on the door. He huffed and tried his damnedest to see what the hell they were doing, but it was pointless.
Once they were done, though, they stepped back and presented their handiwork. His door was back in place, at least. But his lock… It looked like some sort of shitty sci-fi scanner.
“What the hell is that?” he asked, pointing to the contraption. “You could’ve just put a normal lock on my door. I’m not into fake futuristic bullshit, thanks.”
They grinned proudly, and put their hand on it. The machine lit up and made a low noise while they explained, “Your other lock wasn't safe enough. So this will keep everyone but me and you out. No one’s allowed to touch my pet.”
Daniel narrowed his eyes at the lock. Now there was a new theory bubbling up in his brain, but that was impossible. Still, he felt compelled to ask, “Where are you from?”
They scrunched their nose and pointed up, but the word they said was something that Daniel couldn’t even comprehend phonetically. It was like someone decided to shut off his brain right as the word left their mouth. Though that only made this new theory of his stronger.
“So,” he asked in a tone that clearly showed just how done with this he was, “I have no idea what you said. But I’m gonna take a wild fucking guess and say that you’re some kind of fucking alien from another fucking planet.”
As soon as they nodded, an exasperated “of course, damn it all” left his mouth. It made sense. And now, he was apparently the pet of the purple dumbass from space. It sounded like a bad porno, and it was a whole lot to take in. His whole world was pretty much shattered. Aliens. They existed. One was right in front of him.
“Okay, well,” he said very carefully. “What’s your name?”
They thought on it for a moment, then said about the most unexpected thing they could’ve.
“Snail.”
He sighed deeply and repeated under his breath, “Snail.” He clicked his tongue and brought his hands up to his face in a prayer-like gesture. As if he hadn’t been forsaken. “Okay. Nice to meet you, I’m Daniel. Also, where the fuck are your clothes?”
“Clothes?”
Of course. He gestured to his pajamas. “Humans wear clothes because it’s unacceptable to walk around naked. I can’t believe I’m explaining this, fuck, I need tea…”
They cocked their head to the side. “What’s tea?”
“Leaves,” he answered in a huff. “You put them in hot water, and it makes tea.”
They lit up for a moment, then took off out the door to who knows where. Daniel shut it behind them, and dragged himself to the kitchen to make tea.
Several minutes later, as the water in the kettle just started to boil, Snail bounded into the room, hands full of leaves. They dropped them onto the counter and said, “I got you leaves! This is what you wanted, right?”
Someone save him.
“Close,” he said as he took the kettle of the stove and poured the water into his mug, “but no. You can’t just pick any dirty leaf off the ground, ew. You need special ones.” He raised the teabag up and gestured to it. “Like this.”
Snail’s face dropped. They looked at the leaves, then back to him, as if they didn’t know what to do.
“Please put those back,” he mumbled. Bag in the water, time to steep. “I don’t need them.”
They did just that, and stood off to the side while he waited. But just as he took his first sip, they decided to open their stupid mouth.
“So, you wanna fuck?”
He spit out his tea in shock, and brought a hand up to his mouth, face red because what the ever living hell. “Excuse me!?”
“You’re my pet,” they explained, as if he was the dumb one. “That’s what you’re for: fuck.”
“That is not what I’m for,” he hissed, rising up to his full height. Like hell he was going to be objectified like this! “I won’t stand for that bullshit outside of the bedroom! I’m more than just a piece of ass!”
Eyes wide, they said, “I know. You’re my pet.”
Snail had to have been the most dense person in the world. Or the universe. But something told him he didn’t have much of a choice in their head. But maybe he could put this off.
“We can fuck,” he said complacently, “after I get a bath. Okay?”
They nodded. And so he got to finish his tea in silence, and make his way up to the bathroom for a much needed bubble bath.
But of course, good things couldn’t last. He had barely spent five minutes soaking in the warm water, his tense muscles finally starting to relax, when Snail bursted into the room.
“Are you done yet?”
He brought his arms up over his chest, and thank god for these bubbles. “No! Get out!”
They infuriatingly stayed in place. “How long are you gonna take?”
“All day!” he snapped. It was a lie, but he just wanted them off his fucking back for more than two seconds.“Now leave me alone! I need to relax and you’re not helping!”
Finally. They left him alone and he could try to relax. But could he really stay in the tub all day? He didn’t have much better to do.
But that didn’t turn out to be the issue. After an hour he started getting pruney, and he wasn’t going to have that happen. So he reluctantly got out, drained the tub, and dried off. But this wasn’t him giving up, oh no. He had a plan cooking up in his head.
Dressed and ready to go, he crept down the stair and peeked through the banister to find them. They were tinkering with his consoles, but he couldn’t worry about that now. If they broke them, he’d just buy new ones. It was fine.
Carefully, he tiptoed his way down, eyes firmly locked onto Snail’s back. He put his hand on the lock, which made that same noise from earlier, and hightailed it to his car as soon as the door opened. Get keys out, put them in ignition, start the engine, hurry!
Tap-tap-tap!
Daniel froze, then sighed in defeat. He rolled down the window and looked at Snail. “What?”
“I thought you were gonna be in the bath all day,” they said with a small frown.
“Unexpected change of plans,” he bit out through gritted teeth. “Now I’m done. And I’m going somewhere, so…”
Their frown only deepened. “But you said we could fuck after your bath.”
“Well, I have somewhere important to be,” he said, hands firmly on the wheel. Today was already too damn long.
“Where?”
“Somewhere. Bye!”
Without another word, he pulled out of the driveway and practically sped off. Only once he left the neighborhood did he even relax the slightest bit. They couldn’t follow him. And he could finally have some alone time while he came to terms with his new reality.
It didn’t take long for him to reach the arcade. Home away from home. A sigh escaped him as he stepped into the building. Music, lights, games. This was the perfect place to relax.
“Daniel!”
What the fuck?
“How the hell did you get here?” he hissed at Snail, white hot fury building up in his chest. At least they somehow got a shirt and some shorts on. The last thing he wanted was to be kicked out for their indecency.
They only shrugged, and said, “So, are we gonna fuck?”
The frustration was too much to handle. It made his heart race, each thump like a painful stab. He rubbed his temples and said as calmly as he could, “Not right now. I’m so fucking stressed, I can’t even have time to myself, I just want to relax. That’s why I came here. I just want time to not deal with this whole pet bullshit. Do you even realize how much that is for someone to handle?”
A very faint beep filled the air.
“Hey, no, calm down, it’s okay!” they said, panicked as they put their hands on his shoulders. “You can relax! What do you wanna do? I’ll help you!”
“I just wanna play some games,” he answered, now feeling a little raw. “Don’t talk to me for a bit, okay? I don’t care if you watch, just don’t distract me.”
They nodded, and got to work on blocking them out as he went through his favorite games. After a while, when the fire in his chest cooled down, he started talking at them while he played. Telling them little things that he assumed they didn’t know. Did aliens have video games?
Apparently not, since they asked even the most simple questions. But, you know, it was kinda nice teaching them about everything. The wide-eyed look on their face when they saw his character do something cool was a little endearing. And of course they listened to him go on and on without telling him to shut up. They even pointed out different machines they wanted to see him play, and it gave him the opportunity to brag even more about his knowledge and skills.
Maybe having them around wouldn’t be so bad.
