— you planned a study date with your favourite girl after a long time of being separated due to your busy lives, and you noticed a tiny change on her that made you itch to do something new for the night…
word count: 1.7k.
tags: tooth-rotting fluff. that's it. tee hee.
requested? : nope.
a/n: hiya 🤓 welcome to ena’s fluff era 😭😭 i’m still gonna be very active on pupyuj and ofc i’ll still do tons of work there but this account is where all of my works that aren’t smut will go!! i hope you guys enjoy the work i will do here as much as you enjoyed the ones on pupyuj 🥺 p.s. ik the title is a bit far-off from the synopsis but let’s ignore it—
Tumblr media
2:07 a.m., it said on the digital clock sitting on your desk.
surprisingly enough, you were not tired. maybe it was the caffeine coursing through your veins, or the fact that you were actually enjoying studying for once. you weren’t a masochist; you could only be enjoying studying for one reason and it was because of one ahn yujin—your girlfriend who you were fortunate enough to accompany you this night.
“where are you going, (y/n)?” you heard yujin whine as soon as you started shuffling away from her side. she looked cute! with her oversized sweater that had her volleyball team’s mascot (in chibi form!) stitched on it (yujin was a middle blocker), her big glasses, and the scrunchie on her wrist that was so obviously yours.
between the hours and hours of staring at a screen, scribbling down notes, and reading material, yujin was fucking exhausted and it showed on her (very handsome—) face. she had a pout on her pretty lips—neither of you have spoken to each other too much in the name of trying to focus on your studies but yujin loved just having you there with her.
“i’m just going to get another cup of coffee. i’ll be back,” you said, squeezing her hand. but as soon as you tried to pull away, yujin yanks you back to her side, wrapping an arm around your waist tightly and pressing up against you. “baby! it takes like three minutes.” you giggle.
“no, you’ve already had too much… we’ll go to sleep soon,” her words were a bit muffled since she had her face buried on the crook of your neck. she raises her head slightly, looking up at you with her big puppy eyes that never ever failed to soften you up. “and i don’t like it when you’re away.” she mumbles.
oh, how she melts your heart.
“alright, cutie. i’ll stay.” you said, bumping your nose gently against hers.
if the way she almost immediately agreed to having a joint study session when you texted her about it days ago wasn’t enough to tell you how much she missed you, perhaps how she kissed you right now would. so soft you could barely feel it, and so sweet that warmth bloomed in your chest. you broke the kiss slightly just to take yujin’s glasses off her face, making her giggle softly before kissing you again.
a bit stronger this time—her hand rested on your waist, gently squeezing every now and then as she whimpered while you put your hand on the back of her neck, playing with her hair. her lips tasted like chocolates, most likely from the little treats she consumed every now and then because it helped her ‘focus’. you knew yujin just had a sweet tooth.
you could taste the chocolate on her lips, and after a single swipe of your tongue on her lips, you could taste it in her mouth. this was a much needed break, so you didn’t complain when yujin pulled you to her lap. both of you laughed at the way you nearly knocked yujin’s laptop off the bed, willing you to put your hands on her cheeks and control the kiss as you pleased.
‘finally,’ you thought. you felt your girlfriend tug at your shirt, making you laugh once again. she can be so needy. ‘we’ve both been waiting for too long.’
just as the kiss started to lead the two of you in that direction, something tickled the tip of your nose. you leaned back slightly, wondering just what gave you that weird sensation. yujin’s eyes slowly fluttered open, her lips forming another pout since she was so desperate (and determined!) to kiss you all night. then, you notice it—her cute bangs that have grown way too long.
they were nearly poking at her eyes! at first glance, yujin looked so cute but then you remembered the way she would shake her head softly every now and then to get her bangs away from her eyes, or how she would brush them away every second… and just then, you had a brilliant idea.
“baby, no… come back.” yujin whined when you slid off her lap. you grabbed a spare folding chair from the depths of your closet (you don’t remember why you have that, actually…) and disappeared into your bathroom. you were thankful to conveniently have a roommate who took cosmetology classes because any extra equipment she had, she stuffed it under your bathroom sink.
and so, you pulled out a cape and a pouch that contained various combs and scissors before swinging the bathroom door back open. yujin was standing right there, all cute and sleepy and very much confused.
“i need you to change into one of my shitty shirts.” you said, earning a head tilt from the taller girl.
“i love all your shirts, though.”
“come on…” you sighed deeply and went through your drawer on your own. inside you found a grey t-shirt with its design all faded out and chipped. yujin puts the shirt on as you so kindly requested and immediately, you dragged her inside the bathroom and sat her down in front of the mirror on the chair.
“look,” you gave her a kiss on her crown and softly patted her bangs. “i’m going to give them a little trim!” you exclaimed with a big smile.
yujin should be scared. not once has she ever seen you cut hair nor has she seen you hold a pair of scissors so clumsily like you did with the one you had on your hand now but instead, she grinned as widely as you did. “really?! i didn’t know you knew how to cut hair, baby!” she says excitedly. she turns her head to you—with her ‘brightness of a thousand suns’ grin and eye-smile, you couldn’t help but melt.
“j-just a little… but you don’t mind?” you asked.
“of course not! i believe in you,” yujin assures you. “plus, this is way cheaper than going to the salon and paying hundreds just for a little cut.”
you chuckled, “you’re lucky you’re my girlfriend then. otherwise i would’ve charged you like fifty dollars.”
yujin laughs along, “yeah. i’m really lucky.” she replied with warmth and sincerity in her voice. you couldn’t hold yourself back; you leaned down and gave her a sweet kiss on the lips. chocolates, still.
not long after you decided to get to work—yujin sat there quietly, trying her very hardest not to bop her head to the music you’ve put on (it was one of your shared playlists, particularly yujin’s favourite of the bunch) to fill the silence. yujin stared at your face through the mirror, her heart increasing its size every time she catches you do your little habits: biting the corners of your lips, blowing your own hair away when it gets in the way of your eyes, and the way your eyebrows furrowed so deeply from how focused you were.
“does that look okay?” you asked after a few minutes, stepping aside. her bangs were still a bit long, but you didn’t want to overdo it just in case yujin actually liked having them long.
“hm… they’re still a bit…” yujin replied, moving her head softly. obviously she wanted it shorter, so once again you gave her a kiss on the cheek before continuing your work.
it was obvious that yujin was struggling to sit still. she was a very active person! heck, while you were studying for hours, yujin would take small paces around your room and poke around every forty minutes just to keep herself entertained. of course, yujin wouldn’t dare ruin her hair so instead, she decided to keep her hands busy by playing with the hem of your shirt. she’d poke on your stomach, making you laugh and jokingly kick her shin but she’d do it again and you wouldn’t say anything. her cold hands felt right against your warm skin.
a few more laughs, short kisses, and ‘snips’ later, you once again stepped aside to let yujin have a look of herself.
“whoa!” your girlfriend exclaimed. she touches her bangs, moves her head around, and beams up at you. “you’re amazing, baby!” she was saying as you cleaned up the scissors and the cape. as soon as you took it off of her, yujin leaps up from her chair and hugs you tightly.
she peppers your face with kisses amidst your giggles and half-hearted attempts of kissing her back. “you’re the best, (y/n). thanks a lot.” yujin whispers in your ear as she embraced you a bit more gently. your caressed her hair, giving her a chaste kiss on her shoulder, before melting into her.
the two of you stayed that way for a while, until you leaned back to take a look at your girlfriend’s face. she was beautiful, except that her bangs were a bit shorter and, in yujin’s most honest opinion, a lot cuter. you pulled her down to give her a kiss in the forehead, her favourite, before she captures your lips in a kiss. having been this amazing girl’s lover for years now, you’ve come to know where these unexpected make-out sessions lead up to… and you definitely did not want the two of you to go there when the bathroom floor was littered with tiny strands of yujin’s hair.
“clean up first, babe,” you whispered against yujin’s lips. that got you another whine. “please?”
well, that quickly got yujin moving around. you laughed as she cleaned up the entire bathroom in record time and before you knew it, it looked as good as new. the least you could do was put the equipment away, so you folded up the cape and put the scissors in the pouch before tossing it all under the sink once again.
as soon as you stood back up, yujin hugs you from behind. you smile at her through the mirror, she smiles back. even brighter. you intertwined your hands and of course… yujin’s lips were on your skin again.
you giggled, feeling her soft kisses from your neck to your cheek, “do you ever get tired, baby?” you asked, turning your head and catching one of her many, many kisses.
yujin shakes her head, smiling at you like she wants you to fall in love with her all over again, “can’t help it.”

it’s just you and me. — an an yujin x reader short.
word count: 1.7k
author’s note: okay,, i hope tumblr won’t jumble up the words this time or else i’m gonna make it everyone’s problem 😭😭 i hope you all enjoy this one! i’m going to try and keep this momentum going!! 👊💥
warnings: mild swearing, suggestive towards the end.
“brr.” you shivered when a cold gust of wind blows towards you. you swear that when you finally manage to get to that old park, you would strangle an yujin for somehow coaxing you into hanging out past midnight with her. you have never been able to say no to her, of course, but this was just ridiculous.
what if she was just playing with you? what if this was another one of her pranks again? perhaps this time you might call off whatever the fuck it was that you had with her and live the rest of your life in solitude.
...no, you wouldn’t. you could never ever leave yujin. as annoying as she was, you can’t imagine making it through a day without seeing her smile, without holding her hand, and without that kiss on the cheek she has made a bad habit of giving to you every time you do something that she thought was adorable. like, existing.
you thought of that smile for the rest of the walk towards the old park. that smile kept you warm. inside, at least. you still shivered like crazy as you walked. you really wished you wore a coat instead of a hoodie.
when you reached the old park, there was no sign of yujin. your heart faltered a little bit, but you kept your hopes up and settled on a bench. you rubbed your hands up and down your arms, and wrapped your jacket around yourself tighter. minutes passed and irritation was starting to build up inside you.
that little shit...
and then, all of a sudden, the familiar scent of your best friend started wafting into your nose, and you realized that yujin’s varsity jacket had been put down on your shoulders. you looked up, and then soft lips were pressed into your cheek, and warmth spread from your chest all the way up to your face.
yujin leans back to take a good look at your face. of course, she grins when she sees that you were blushing. “i always wanted to see how that jacket would look on you. this was a perfect idea, wasn’t it?” she said, sitting down beside you.
“my ass is frozen.”
“perfect idea!” yujin guffawed. you punched her shoulder playfully, but you did also put on her jacket, relishing in its warmth and softness.
“you couldn’t have called me over or something? and why a creepy old park? at midnight? are you going to knock me out?” you continued to pretend to be angry. pretend, because all yujin really needed to do to chase your anger away was to show up and it would all be gone. pretend, because you could never really get mad at yujin.
pretend, because that was what you and yujin have been doing for the longest time. pretending that the hand-holding means nothing. that the kisses, the hugs, the late night calls, the stares, and the feelings are truly just what ‘best friends’ do.
“i wanted to hang out. simple.” yujin replied. she was wearing a thick jacket underneath a sweatshirt and a skirt! you had no idea how she didn’t even look like the cold was bothering her. her hair was askew, probably from the wind. you wanted to fix it. so you do. you moved closer and reached up, combing your fingers through your best friend’s hair. yujin closed her eyes, leaning into your touch with a contented look on her face.
i wanted to hang out. simple. in other words, there’s something wrong. i need you.
knowing yujin, she wouldn’t tell you anything of what had bothered her until later. and you were fine with that. you always have been.
“c’mere,” you gently pulled yujin into your arms. she quietly rested her face on the crook of your neck. she seemed calm for the first few seconds, but then, she wrapped her arms around your waist tightly, as if she was scared you would slip away. “it’s alright, yujin.” you whispered.
yujin raised her head, and you moved your hands so that you would be cupping her cheeks, pressing your forehead against hers. the two of you have been in this situation a hundred times before, but it was only now that your heart ached being this close to yujin. every time this happens, there was always something ringing in your ear, as if it was telling you that you weren’t ready to completely cross that boundary with yujin. not yet.
but this has gone on for too long, has it not? years and years of this game.
you closed your eyes and recalled the many times that you have held yujin’s face this close. at every single moment and at the very last second, you wouldn’t make the move to kiss her like you always wanted to. you would hug her, and you would do it all day to make up for the one simple thing you can never bring yourself to do.
you opened your eyes and met yujin’s once again. unsaid words came to you.
what are you waiting for?
your jaw clenched. and when you intended to make the slightest moves, yujin held you closer.
kiss me. kiss me. kiss me.
not being able to withstand your head anymore, you tilted your head and caught yujin’s lips with yours. the sinking feeling in your chest—the one you have had for years, caused by regrets, guilt, and shame—slowly dissipates when you felt yujin’s lips move with yours in sync. like she’d practiced it before. or rather, like she’d always known how you would kiss her.
yujin presses herself closer to you. she has been waiting for this for the longest time, and now that it was here, all she wanted to do was forget everything and everyone else and lose herself in you, your lips, and your heart. so when you moved your hands down to clutch her jacket, she takes your face in her hands and guides you herself.
her lips tasted like the peach-flavored chapstick she wore all the time, the same one you would sometimes borrow just to feel close enough to yujin’s lips. there was the strange taste of strawberries on her tongue, which you immediately knew was caused by the vape she carried around. she smelled like strawberries and the wind, and the more she kisses you the longer your brain turns into a puddle, incapable of wanting to think of doing anything else but to kiss yujin.
your hands find their way underneath yujin’s sweatshirt, making a heavenly sound escape yujin’s lips when your cold hands make contact with her warm skin. “easy, tiger.” yujin whispered against your lips with a smirk. you couldn’t help but giggle, retracting your hands and putting them on her hips instead. yujin kisses you again, softly this time, with her hands on your shoulders.
“(y/n),” you didn’t much liked your name. you preferred nicknames, actually, but something about yujin saying it made it a bit more okay to hear. “(y/n).” a gust of cold wind blows past the two of you, and she puts her lips on yours again. you don’t think you could ever get tired of this.
“do you love me, (y/n)?” yujin asked. her voice shook and it wasn’t because of the cold. having been friends with yujin for the longest time, you were the one who tend to notice the smallest changes in her. when yujin asked her question, she sounded scared. she didn’t even sound like she wanted to ask that question because she was scared.
despite your confusion at her tone, you didn’t think twice before answering. “yes,” you tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and placed a quick kiss on her trembling lips. “i love you.” more than anything, you wanted to add. but that was a conversation for another day.
yujin’s next words surprised you, “show me.”
entranced by her crystal clear eyes, you took her by the hand and pulled her up from the bench. the two of you left the park in silence, with only your thoughts occupying your ears. you walked slightly ahead of yujin even though your hands were linked, and every time you turned your head slightly, you would see that she was staring at you. nothing but complete adoration in her eyes. you were pretty sure that yujin could see how the back of your neck flushed.
there was an unspoken agreement between the two of you where it was decided that it was your home that the two of you would be settling down in for the night. it wouldn’t take a complete fool to know that yujin did not want to be in her house. you led yujin inside your home and tugged her along the dark hallway where your bedroom was hidden in.
as soon as you flipped the lock on your door, yujin’s lips was on yours again, her hands all over you. when you pulled her towards your bed and she attacked your neck with kisses while straddling your lap as you fumbled to take her jacket off, the rest of the night became mere flashes of yujin underneath you, nails digging into your shoulders while you whispered sweet nothings into her ear as you did what she asked you to do — to show her that you loved her.
when you eventually collapsed next to her, something in the back of your brain doubted that yujin was being serious throughout the night. did she really want you to kiss her in the park? did she really ask you to do all that? hell, did you two really just do that?
it seems like yujin developed some sort of ability to hear your thoughts, because she turns to face you after catching her breath. the moonlight that shone through your window reflected in her eyes, and you swore that you saw the stars in them when she smiled at you.
the entire world seemed to have become silent just for you to hear those three lovely words leave yujin’s lips. and then, she held you close, as if to wash away all your worries and doubts — just as you’ve done for her when you finally kissed her earlier.
for the majority of the night, the two of you stared at each other in silence like the idiots in love that you are, and took advantage of the idea that it was truly only you and yujin the entire world; void of troubles, hardships, and issues. surrounded only by the love you held for one another, forever and after.

Assurance
male reader x Ahn Yujin
Tumblr media
Though it was a bad decision to earn a rival's trust, you still tried despite the consequences you may face.
It was a perfect time to bring her car for a downhill mountain ride as the sun sets down into the thick clouds, the majestic sight of Seoul down from the mountain hoping if only the people down there could hear her Lancer IX roar in each pull she makes. A woman like her driving such an iconic JDM car is any guy’s dream woman, but remembering she’s one of Chaewon’s rivals is a reason not to be attached with her too much. Despite her teammates like Wonyoung, who drives a violet Rx8 or Rei who owns a R34 skyline, Yujin’s vibe is entirely a different yet unexplainable level of coolness from theirs.
She would sometimes land a glance at you amid the trip while you enjoy your moment sitting in the passenger seat -inside joke of you being called a Passenger Princess without the double ‘S’. Even with the amount of urge to look back at her wild, yet attractive visuals, you decide to ignore and pretend as if you didn’t care.
“You know you’re too dumb to think you’re safe enough to ride into someone’s car knowing the person right next to you . . . “ she pauses to give you a slow look of  disappointment. “Is someone who pointed a gun at you a while ago?”
You find yourself chuckling in her words. She’s indeed a threat, a look of someone who wouldn’t spare you nor who’d kill you with a barbecue stick possible. But for what? You think that killing you is definitely a waste of time as you don’t even serve any special purpose rather than being a male guy who beats a racer like her.
“You’ll just waste a bullet at me I guess, plus I really imagined myself sitting inside your car. A Lancer Evo is something that would crumble my heart to be honest.”
Your words are enough to make her look away, speechless as you sight a small curve forming into the corner of her lips afterwards. You never expect such a small compliment could make a tigress passive once again -or maybe you are just assuming too much.
“Chaewon must have put enough steroids on your car just to beat me didn’t she?” Yujin says in a plain tone as if it was a regular thing to her. “Your car is the most bullshit thing to see in a Hakone, yet you manage to beat me with it.” After passing several curved roads, she looks at you and takes guesses of what Chaewon had inserted into your GTO. She manages to guess almost everything right -weight reduction? Right she had made a wide and long light as her Evo V, swapped engine? Yes, she made your car scream like a Skyline. Much as you want to agree, you keep yourself shut; you still don’t trust Yujin that much.
“But still, I like your car more.” You say, and she meets your eyes. You feel the car slow down, the engine gets quieter as Yujin pulls the car beside a metal railing where the view of Seoul is clearly seen. Though it may be dangerous to stop a car in the middle of a road, it’s Yujin, she never cares for the rules.
A smile forms into her lips after she chuckles, and it’s way more visible than before. It’s common to see her resting bitch face every time when it turns out that she looks prettier when she brightens up. With the gothic styled shorthair, and a ‘Tomboy’ vibe attitude, who would even expect her to achieve such a smile. You who’s lucky enough to see it, you’re here to keep it
“I never expect that the person whom I wanted to put down, is the first person who would admire my work.” Afterwhile, she hides the smile again. “Most guys would choose my teammate's car, why would you even choose mine who’s evidently plain and boring?”
“Guys have different tastes” You answer confidently. “One likes the ricers one, one likes the simple ones. I could tell that the car design reflects the driver’s personality. For me, the people who're minimalist with their design just simply love racing and keeping up with fellow racers like them while ignoring the attention of the crowd. Someone that never pretends to be a new one just for attention, and rather who’d be herself despite the criticism she may face.”
She keeps her eyes at you, finally the first moment you see her face you for a long time. And with that, a short silence fills the atmosphere before she looks down, and moves herself to face at the front. She rests both of her hands against the top of the steering wheel while she leans herself into it.
“You okay?” You concern, even with the high urge of placing a tap on her back, you flee it away. Maybe it was your words that made her quiet for a moment, but perhaps it was not. She doesn’t seem to be the type of person who’d feel down for some sweetly dramatic words.
She murmurs a “mhm” while her face is rested against her arms. You didn’t ask for more, you didn’t want to be the type of person who’d throw more questions because the answer wasn’t enough. Though you weren’t satisfied, her head starts to face you with tired eyes.
“Why are you so kind to me?” she says with a hint of worry. “You must be doing this on purpose. You want me to be with your team? The answer is obvious, kid, you just wasted your time”
Shaking your head in disagreement seems to confuse her more, along with the chuckle you let out.
“Then why?”
“Because I know you’re different from your team. You’re the only rival I faced who played fairly against me . . . . someone who wouldn't try to cross the line just to beat me.”
When a smile once again forms into her lips, your unnecessary thoughts get clear out again; the thought of her playing easy on you because she may know you’re just a one piece of a waste of time.
“Who in their right mind would even be so confident to stay around me?” She pulls the key out from the starter knob, then opens the door. Her eyes glances at you as soon as she steps outside. “I bet you will choose to smell fresh air here rather than staying there.” and she closes the door.
No choice, not really but she hits the right point. You follow her outside where she sits over the metal railing despite her ass getting beyond the space which she didn’t seem to care about. Her eyes widened when you left a meter of space between you and her after you sat, even with the little hint of ‘sit beside me’ you decided to act like you don’t care. Though playing hard to get didn’t last that long when she motions her head at you to sit right next to her.
“You know Wonyoung would kill you if she sees you with me.” You remind as you rest your hands against the railing. She starts to jiggle her keys on her index finger, and in surprise she never shows any reaction to your question.
“She wouldn’t, she’s just a brat who doesn't even have the courage to pull the trigger once you’re there.” She answers while she maintains eyes at the spinning keys. “Yeji made a really bad decision when she gave Wonyoung the control of our group.”
“Why didn’t she pick you?”
She forces a frown while she shrugs at your question. “I don’t know, I’m not even worthy to be the leader of the group. I mean Gaeul is there, she’s the eldest among us. Rei can be because she knows more about Japanese cars. There’s nothing special about me, kid. Don’t force it.”
“I’m not forcing it. I’m asking because that’s what I see about you.” You argue in a calm demeanor. You manage to catch her attention with your answer, looking at you with eyes of curiosity while it maintains the non-friendly vibe.
“I know you’re the type of person who listens carefully, someone who’s understanding deep inside. I don’t know, I can’t explain but that’s what I see about you. I mean you had the opportunity to shoot me back at your tavern, but you decided to listen to me even if I’m part of the rivalry team.”
“How can you be so confident about it?” Yujin raises an eyebrow at you, for what she assume you can’t answer until you smile and point a finger at her.
“You just listened to my words right now. You understood every word I said.”
You manage to form a pretty smile on her lips afterwards, wider and brighter that seeing it was enough to brighten you as well. She pushes your shoulder, then closes her eyes to make a deep breath.
“You’re really ridiculous, kid.” She sighs.
“Believe it or not it’s fine . . .” You give out your courage to place your hand over her shoulder that immediately catches her eyes. Her eyes widens for a second, but shortly accepts it. “Just remember that there’s a person who would understand you.”
The sun has settled down and the sky has begun to turn orange which Yujin watched upon. She turns around to enjoy the beautiful skylines of Seoul a few miles below the mountain, and you accompany her as well. It feels like this was a date, yet it feels illegal as well.
When the skies turned dark, it was time to leave. Even if you wished that moment should’ve been longer, you had to accept that everything comes to an end. You stand up together as she walks first closer to her car, she suddenly turns around and throws you the car’s key which you luckily catch.
“You like my car, right?” She chuckles and motions her head. “Show me how you can handle it.”
How lucky you are, it was a dream come true. For countless times sitting on the passenger seat, wishing your hands to be on that wheel, finally she gives you the chance to feel it. You didn’t hesitate to accept it. You rush into the driver’s door until you see multiple headlights appear from the distance that seem to head your way. Yujin notices it, and she steps outside the car right away, standing beside you.
“It’s Wonyoung.” she hisses
“Fuck, we need to leave.” Your answer didn’t seem to satisfy her. When you are about to open the door, she pulls your forearm
“That wouldn’t save you from the eyes of my team.” She faces you, and swallows, taking a deep sigh before meeting your eyes. “Make out with me.”
“What?”
It was too late for assurance and questions when she crashes her lips into yours. Your arm that was lately in the door’s handle, is now in Yujin's grasp. She pushes you hard, the hardness of the window’s visor wasn’t enough to hurt you as you only feel Yujin’s mouth that’s dominating yours. No hesitation, no what and if’s, you accept that this is happening. She dives her tongue inside yours, her hands guiding yours into her hips where you enjoy the curvature she had. And when the approaching cars seem to get louder and closer, she starts to moan between make outs.
Now that the car has stopped right at both of you, she starts to slow down. The sound of the door opening was the cue for her to stop, looking at your lips for a while before she turns around to face them. It was indeed Wonyoung along with the other members in each car.
“Yah, am I supposed to believe what I’m seeing?” Wonyoung scoffs, a tone of disbelief can be heard in her words. Yujin places her hand against your chest.
“It wasn’t hard to convince this asshole though.” Yujin answers, glancing at you then returning at hers. “Told you everything can be handled if you do what men really wishes for”
“Assholes” Gaeul adds while she slowly starts to lean against her Fairlady Z32’s fender. “They never changed.”
Yujin gives her a smirk. Wonyoung makes a quick peek at you -in a look of disappointment that seems to criticize your whole soul within that second- then returns her eyes to Yujin. You feel your heartbeat racing when you see the gang silent all at once, there is nowhere to escape from them especially from Wonyoung who seemed displeased.
Wonyoung rests her arm over the hood of her Rx8. “Then I’m expecting good news from you, better not waste my time.”
“Chaewon is up for nothing. But she seemed to make more cars to beat the hella out of us.” Yujin answers confidently while Wonyoung returns a loud yet cute giggle.
“Right Chaewon, that girl would do anything just to prove she’s better than everyone else.” Wonyoung rolls her eyes, and starts to open her door. “I don’t care if she’s the Seoul Tempest or what, I’m pretty sure her car would die out in the amount of curves Hanseong pass has.” Just before she enters back into her car, Wonyoung gives you another look. “Hey Y/n, once I knew you snitched on us. Remember that I know where you live, you seem to have a great family with you, hopefully you don’t disappoint them.”
Everything ends with Wonyoung giving a threat to you, and somehow it was the second time of her talking to you again. Her friends start to take their cars as the Rx8 takes the lead, roaring off into the empty road as you watch the group leave the spot- though it may seem a perfect time to finally breathe in relief, not until you realize the words Wonyoung left you before she flew off.
Yujin keeps her back at you, sighing and slowly turning around to face you when she sees her team’s presence is finally gone. From that emotionless woman you had stayed with several hours ago, now seems to disappear from this world when she turns to you with slight worry in her face.
“Sorry.” She speaks out in a mixture of disappointment and relief. “I couldn’t think of any way to save you from them.”
“It’s fine’ You force a smile, and give her a light nod. “At least it worked anyways”

Closing the heavy metal gate with a gentle push, Yujin walked along the familiar stony pathway leading to the two-story house. The autumn breeze danced across her cheeks, brushing away the remnants of tears that had left their mark, only to be replaced by fresh ones welling up in her eyes.
Seeking solace in nostalgia, Yujin grabbed the hidden key concealed beneath the cat-shaped umbrella stand, a gift she had given you all those years ago. With a sense of trepidation, she slipped into the place she had once called home. The walls were still adorned with a pale tint, the creaking wooden floorboards, and the warm glow of yellow lights greeted her, as if time had stood still in the house. Yet, one thing had changed irrevocably—the bond you once shared, forged in innocence, had withered away, leaving behind an ever-present, suffocating pain in her chest.
It’s funny how time changes relationships, leaving only memories engraved into the very fabric of the walls, whispering stories of the past.
Continuing down the hallway, Yujin couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle upon laying her eyes upon the wall adorned with your school pictures. The laughter, however, held a tinge of melancholy.
Pausing in front of the last photograph, she found herself transported back to the days of preschool graduation, where you and Yujin had clasped hands, beaming with toothy smiles under adorable graduation caps. Below the photo, were both of your scribbled handwriting, spelling out the surnames of each other.
You had insisted on only writing down each others’ surnames, claiming that writing your full name was unnecessary. Yujin knew you were actually struggling with spelling out the ‘YU’ in her name, so she nodded in agreement.
"I always call you Yujin, never with Ahn. So I won't forget your name, but I might mix up your last name," you had explained while inscribing "Ahn" with a pink marker, insisting it suited her name perfectly. "I added a heart because you're my best friend."
With a final glance, Yujin made her way to the living room, only to be confronted with an unrecognizable sight. It seemed that you decided to change things after all. You were never the one to really dwell on the past memories, Yujin was.
The weathered brown couch, where Yujin had spent countless nights cradling you in her arms, soothing your heartache over another failed relationship, had been replaced with a sophisticated black leather sofa. The small boxed TV, which had witnessed your shared love for romance movies, had been replaced by a grand flat-screen display. The room, once spotlessly arranged by your mother's loving touch, now bore witness to scattered toys strewn across the floor. Yunjin knew you had a daughter with your ex-fiance Do-yun (she stalked your social media), and she couldn’t help but feel a pang of hurt as she recognized your daughter's striking resemblance to you when you first met.
Her body automatically led her to the familiar staircase that she spent most of her childhood racing up and down from. While the floorboards retained their familiar appearance, a polished wooden handle now adorned the staircase, along with safety nets that stood as safeguards for your daughter.
Yujin closed her eyes and gently placed her hand upon the newly polished handle, ascending the steps one by one—counting silently. One, two, three, four, five... She halted abruptly on the ninth step, bending down to inspect the bottom right corner, just next to the handle. There, etched onto the wooden floorboard, she found a sentence, so small anyone would miss it if they didn’t know what to look for: Think of me, Ahn Yujin.
You had carved it into that particular step of the stairs the night before Yujin debuted as a member of IZ*ONE. The two of you had sat on those stairs, sipping stolen champagne from your parents' cupboards at three in the morning, engrossed in conversations about the future. Yujin could vividly recall the sight of you, head resting on her lap, radiating a breathtaking beauty. Her heart raced every time your eyes met, and the scent of your vanilla perfume drove her crazy. She had wanted to bend down and kiss you.
“Do you get nervous before you perform?” You had asked her, curious about the soon-to-be idol.
“Every single time.” She had admitted.
“How do you overcome it?”
Yujin held the image of your gaze in her mind, your eyes sparkling with interest and a lazy smile gracing your lips. You looked at her as if she held the power to hang the stars in the sky, or so she believed.
“I think of you.” She confessed, her voice was filled with vulnerability.
“Me? Why?” you asked, genuine surprise etched across your face.
“Because you make me brave." she had answered, her heart pouring out its truth.
Upon Yujin’s confession, you had sat up and grabbed a hair pin, and leaned over the stairs, carefully engraving Think of me, Ahn Yujin on the wooden surface.
"Promise me that you'll always think of me when you're scared, Yujin," you had requested, a flutter in your voice. "I'll always be there for you."
“I promise.”
Yujin had faithfully kept her promise, clutching the necklace you had given her and thinking about the way your eyes crinkled when you smiled before each performance. But you, on the other hand, had failed to keep your promise. You were no longer there for her, and your once supportive smiles were conspicuously absent from the crowds.
As Yujin reached the top of the stairs, she made her way slowly towards your room. The hallway near the bathroom stirred painful nostalgia within her, serving as a painful reminder of where everything had unraveled—the place where your cherished 14-year friendship had crumbled to dust.
It happened when you were both 20 years old. You had returned home from college for the winter break, while Yujin finally managed to persuade her manager to grant her a two-week break following a busy comeback with IVE. Yujin had hoped to spend quality time with you after a year of not being able to hang out. However, you seemed too preoccupied and busy for her. The thought of you possibly being involved with someone else pained her heart, yet she desperately clung to the remains of your friendship. She would rather have you as a friend than not have you at all, and she missed you dearly.
Just a few days prior, Yujin had planned a movie night with you. But when she arrived at your house and was let in by your mom, she found you dressed in a stunning midnight black backless dress and heels, leaving  your bedroom and walking down the familiar hallway. In Yujin's eyes, you looked celestial, surpassing even the beauty of a tapestry of constellations.
“Hey, where are you going?” Yunjin had asked you, confused.
“I have a date with Do-yun.” you replied, standing in front of the hallway mirror and fixing your makeup.
“I thought we had a movie night planned out.” Yujin had said, with a hint of disappointment for being stood up the third time by you this week.
You had slapped your forehead in revelation, “I forgot that was today. I’m so sorry. Rain check?”
"I'm going back to Seoul this Friday," Yujin said, her anger beginning to surface. "I've been back for ten days, and we haven't hung out once. You've already canceled on me twice."
"I said I was sorry," you retorted, frustration creeping into your tone.
"Sorry doesn't fix anything. You begged me to take time off to spend with you, but when I do, you act like I don't exist."
"Begged you? I never begged you," your face reddened with anger. "Why do you keep insisting on spending time with me? Don't you have other friends?"
Those words struck a blow to Yujin's ego; you were known to say hurtful things during arguments.
"I do have other friends, but you're my best friend. I missed you."
You looked at Yujin in the eye, shook your head, and pushed past her. "I can't deal with this right now. Do-yun is waiting outside."
"He's not right for you," Yujin pleaded desperately, feeling as though she was losing you with each passing year.
"Give me one reason why he's not good enough for me, Yujin. You've never liked any of my boyfriends," your annoyance grew as the argument escalated.
Yujin fell silent, her mind racing to find a way to keep you by her side without crossing any boundaries.
"Whatever, Yujin. Goodbye," you said, turning around to make your way downstairs.
"Please don't go," Yujin rushed forward and grabbed your wrists.
"I'm in love with you."
She watched as you froze, your body stiffening at her confession.
"What?" you turned to look at her, eyes wide with shock and confusion.
"I'm in love with you. I always have been," Yujin whispered, aware that this revelation would forever change everything between you.
You closed your eyes slowly, as if the sight of Yujin had become too much to bear.
"Please don't say that."
"I can't hide it any longer," Yujin wanted to shout in frustration. "I see your face everywhere I go, I miss you when you're not around, I can't stop thinking about you."
"Yujin, I'm not gay," you paused, tears welling up in your eyes as you carefully chose your words. "Stay away from me."
Yujin always knew that you didn't reciprocate her feelings, but she never expected you to reject her for who she truly was.
She had left your house that day, breaking off all contact , leaving behind her love for you. Yet here she was, ten years later, back in your house, entering your room for the first time in a decade, simply because you had sent her a text expressing a desire to meet up with her. Pathetic as it may sound, Yujin knew that if you said you wanted her back in your life, she would drop everything in a heartbeat.
Taking a deep breath, Yujin finally reached the door to your room and pushed it open. Despite the changes downstairs, your room remained unchanged. It was as if time had frozen within these four walls, disregarding the changes happening outside. The bed sheets still bore the same shade of blue, the pictures of your prom night together were still on your desk, and even the brown stuffed puppy she had given you for your tenth birthday remained on the bed.
The only indication of the passing years was the little girl sleeping peacefully in the bed, clutching the stuffed puppy tightly in her arms. You were lying next to her, gently stroking her hair, and when you saw Yujin, you met her eyes.
You appeared slightly older, with weariness evident in your eyes, but to Yujin, you were as beautiful as ever.
"Yujin," you whispered, and she cast her gaze downward.
“Hey.”
She heard you slowly rise from the bed and approach her. Yujin closed her eyes, silently praying that she could regain her composure after seeing you. It had taken her years to move on, but deep down, she knew she never truly had.
Before she could react, you threw your arms around her and engulfed her in a hug.
“I’m so sorry.” You sobbed, refusing to let go.
Yujin simply shrugged, unable to bring herself to say anything.
"I'm sorry for the things I said to you. I couldn't process my feelings for you back then, and all I could think of was pushing you away from me."
“It’s okay.” Yujin whispered, finally wrapping an arm around you.
“No, it’s not. I hurt you, Yujin.” You pulled back and looked at her determinedly,
“I am in love with you Yujin, I’m sorry it took losing you for me to understand this.”
Yujin froze, staring at you with her eyes wide in shock.
“You love me?”
You nodded, tears welling up in your eyes. "I think I always have, but I was so terrified when you confessed your love that I pretended not to feel anything. I wanted to keep our friendship, but instead, it drove you away."
The words caught in the idol's throat. Standing before her was the girl she had loved for almost two decades, and the possibility of you returning her feelings was overwhelming.
"What took you so long?" Yujin pulled you impossibly closer, burying her face in your hair.
"It would have been selfish of me to declare my love for you while you were with someone else, so I waited."
Suddenly, the young girl on the bed stirred, rubbing her eyes and sitting up. Her brown doe eyes mirrored yours; she was a spitting image of you.
"Mommy?" The young girl called out.
“I’m here baby.” You walked over and scooped the girl in your arms. “Do you want to meet my friend?”
Your daughter happily nodded as she looked at Yujin. Just like you were as a kid, your daughter was outgoing and eager to meet new people.
"Hello, your majesty," Yujin bowed, formally introducing herself.
Your daughter giggled. "My name is not majesty."
"I thought you were a princess. You look so pretty," Yujin pretended to be shocked, eliciting more giggles and a blush from the younger girl.
"What's your name, princess?”
"Kim Yujin."
Yujin smiled, her surprise evident.
"You named her after me?" she whispered, causing you to blush in embarrassment.
"I missed you a lot during my pregnancy," you confessed, trying to defend yourself. "Cut me some slack. I was at my weakest."
Yujin burst into laughter, finally able to breathe without feeling the ache in her heart that had persisted for ten long years. She could adapt to the changes in your house, and most importantly, she could definitely get used to the way you felt in her arms.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hybrid!yujin x fem!reader
category: sfw, fluff
in which (reader) spends their day off with their lovely, clingy, adorable puppy gf
Tumblr media
"Don't go" Yujin pleaded softly, tugging at the hem of your sweater while she sat at the edge of your bed. You knew how clingy she was—she couldn't bear to be a second away from you and rare moments of respite like this made spending time with your perfect girlfriend all the more precious. "Baby, I really need to take a shower!" you chuckled, noticing her grip tightening around your hips, a pout forming as she shook her head disapprovingly.
"Yujin," you playfully warned, affectionately patting her puppy ears, feeling her pull you closer in response. She tilted her head, casting a cute glance at you, batting her eyelashes in a silent plea.
"A kiss?" you asked, to which she eagerly nodded, her tail failing to hide her excitement.
Amused, you gently cupped her cheeks, pressing her soft lips with yours. Yujin eagerly drew you onto her lap, her heart pounding with an almost audible rhythm—she simply couldn't get enough of you (Yujin right now: 🍅).
As you pulled away, a cute pout formed on her lips, and in that moment, she found herself overwhelmed by her immense affection for you (Ahhhh she's so adorable).
"Can I come with you?" she asked, tilting her head, her eyes filled with determination to spend every second of the day by your side. Your heart warmed at the sight of her eyes lighting up when you nodded in agreement.
She trailed closely behind you, watching intently as you prepared the bath. Sensing Yujin's growing impatience, you felt her grip on your sweater tighten with every passing moment.
Placing a kiss on her cheeks, you began to undress her, her gaze fixed on you as you brushed a strand of hair behind her ear.
"You too," she whined, tugging at the hem of your shirt. Yet, despite her request, she blushed when you undressed(as if she hadn't already explored and memorized every inch of your body 🤭).
The bath was quiet, a precious moment between you both. Her head rested on your shoulder as you washed her hair, her laughter echoing through the tiled walls when she noticed your hair covered with bubbles, her fingers gently massaging your scalp. The bath lasted longer than usual because Yujin couldn't resist peppering you with kisses every 2.5 minutes.
You ate dinner with her arms wrapped around your waist, while you both cuddled in your bed. (Eating in bed weirds me out but it's Yujin so it's fine) She insisted on being fed, showering your hands with kisses—her obsession with your hands evident.
Plates left on the bedside table, you focused on the movie, or at least you tried. Yujin, however, was fixated on watching you watch the movie 😭. To her, you were simply perfect.
The day ended with skincare, hugs, cuddles, and lots and lots of kisses. Yujin blushing when you randomly praise her, feeling so shy to the point where she'd silence you with a kiss, leading to a little makeout sesh. Falling asleep suddenly became effortless because she always makes sure you feel safe and loved.

Summary: You and Yujin were childhood friends who stayed together through the years. Somewhere along your friendship both of you started having feelings for one another but were too scared to confess until one meaningful night.
A/N: God I love writing for Yujin💕
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3rd's POV
One of the best moments in Yujin's life? If someone asked her that she would say that it was definitely meeting you.
*Flashback*
Why did it had to happen today of all days?
Yujin asked herself that question while running as fast as she could to her class. For some reason life decided to make her oversleep and it wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't for the fact that that day she was starting a day with a teacher that really didn't liked her and will for sure use the fact that she was late to give her punishment.
In a hurry she didn't noticed a girl looking at the piece of a paper. Both of you tumbled into each other making your things fall as well. Yujin rubbed her back while standing up and looked at you.
"Wow" Yujin thought. You were super beautiful... shaking her thoughts away Yujin offered you a hand to help you stand up "Here, I'm sorry for bumping into you" You accepted her help with a smile. After helping you, Yujin picked up your things and the paper that you were looking at earlier.
"No need to apologize since it's also on me. I tried to figure out where do I have my first class since I'm new here and I wasn't looking where I was going so I'm also sorry" You said making Yujin smile even more. She looked at the piece of paper in her hands and said "Oh you're in my class? I was actually going there right now so we can go together"
In the end both of you were late to your class and as you were excused because you were new, Yujin still got the punishment but for some reason she wasn't all that sad or mad about it.
*End of Flashback*
You became friends and stayed by each other's sides ever since then. Everyday you were having sleepovers at each other's houses, you shared secrets and sometimes got in trouble at school together. Everywhere you were, Yujin also was and it even became a joke that your parents often used.
When Yujin got into Starship Entertainment, you were the first one who found out and you couldn't be more happy for her. You started having less time to spend together but for you nothing mattered more than for Yujin to achieve her dreams.
You were with her during her trainee days, Produce 48, IZ*ONE and the disbandment up until her debut in IVE. Yujin was grateful to have you by her side during all of it.
You got along with everyone in her life, especially the IVE members who considered you as their family. In fact they were the ones who made you realize that you see Yujin as more than a friend.
The realization was overwhelming, you weren't mad or disappointed that it was Yujin who stole your heart but the fact that she was your best friend caused you to be scared of ruining your friendship with your confession. Plus you saw that there was something between her and Wonyoung so who were you to just compete against her?
So you stayed silent.
Just like Yujin who knew of her feelings for you but just like you was scared and was thinking that you had something with Gaeul.
Time was flying fast and before you knew it, your birthday came. All of your friends threw you a party at the beach. For the whole day you had fun with them until the night came. Only you and the IVE members stayed on the beach by the fire that you made to keep you all warm. You saw Yujin and Wonyoung talking and laughing together making your mood drop.
You quietly stood up and walked closer to the ocean to look at it. Before you could even think about anything, you felt another presence standing next to you. You turned your head to see Yujin looking at the ocean before she also turned to you, giving you the smile that you loved the most.
"What's up Y/N? It's your birthday but you look a little gloomy. What's on your mind?" She asked with concern in her eyes.
You
You wanted to say but stopped yourself. You sat down on the sand with Yujin next to you as she took your hand in hers, encouraging you to open up to her just like you always did.
You sighed and started "Have you ever loved someone so much that it hurted?" Yujin knew what that felt "I... There's someone that I like.. Like a lot but she probably likes someone else anyway" You finished making you frown.
So you did liked someone huh? She expected that but it didn't mean that it hurted less.
"Who is it?" She asked you making you shake your head "You don't want t-" "I want to!" She quickly cutted you off but apologized after she realized what she did.
Way to go Yujin.
She mentally slapped herself and assured you that you didn't had to say anything if you really didn't want to. You looked down as the silence engulfed you two.
"It's you" you quietly admitted making Yujin quickly look at you. Did she heard you correctly? She smiled when she realized that she did in fact was the one you liked but it disappeared when she remembered your words.
"Wait, who do you think that I might like?" You looked at Wonyoung who was still sitting in front of the fire and Yujin quickly realized what you meant.
You thought that she liked Wonyoung? Well she can't exactly blame you since she thought that you liked Gaeul.
Yujin started laughing causing you to be confused and quickly sad. When she noticed that you started thinking that she doesn't like you back, Yujin quickly took both of your hands in hers and said "W-Wait, I like you too. I just find the whole situation funny since you thought that I like Wonyoung when I thought that you like Gaeul"
When you realized what she said, a relief came over you and you quickly started laughing with Yujin over the situation. It was indeed really funny. When the silence took over it was comfortable silence instead of the awkward one from before. The single thought of the other one reciprocating the feelings send butterflies to yours and Yujin's stomachs.
"How long have you liked me" Yujin asked you as you slightly looked at her "For a long while now" You said making her smile bigger.
"How long have you?"
"Always have"
It was all that was needed to be said. Both of you were still young so you had time to make everything official. For now you were content to just sit together in front of the ocean and bask in each other's presence.

pretty neighbor - jinjoo oneshot
it was surely not minjoo’s day after she missed the bus this morning, dropped her papers on her way to school, stained her shirt while eating lunch, and broke her phone’s screen. With the series of unfortunate events, ‘what could happen next?’ she thought to herself.
After a long stressful day, she finally reached her house. And as if the gods are playing with her luck, her keys are missing and worse, her parents are away for some family business that leaves her alone.
Trying to figure out what to do, the unlucky girl suppresses herself from crying. It’s getting colder and darker. She sat outside their gates for it was the only place with lights on. Hoping for some miracle to pass by.
An hour had passed, Minjoo is still not sure of what she is going to do. There are no convenient stores nearby and her phone’s battery is already dead. She is too sleepy and tired to think.
Or is it to recompense for her worst day, the house beside hers lighted up. She raised her head to see the person who caused the action. A girl, taller than her, with a cute bunny teeth, looked at her in confusion. Minjoo, seeing a glint of hope, quickly fixed herself and stood up to greet the person.
“Hello” Minjoo awkwardly greeted and forced a smile
“Good evening” her neighbor greeted back
“Were you crying?”
Minjoo suddenly didn’t know how to respond. It’s not just because she doesn’t know if she’s going to answer the question or if she does know the answer, it’s because the taller girl is pretty, pretty enough to make her speechless. A unique kind of pretty, the shorter thought to herself.
“I- I’m sorry. You don’t have to answer that” the girl looked cutely embarrassed
“What are you doing outside at this hour?”
Minjoo’s soul is still nowhere to be found. The girl continued to talk.
“Oh, I apologize again for asking. I’m Yujin. Ahn Yujin. I moved here last week. I suppose you’re Mrs. Kim’s daughter, Minjoo, right?”
Minjoo recalled that name. Her mother was cooking for someone last week when she mentioned that they have a new neighbor whose name is Yujin and her mom seems to like her a lot.
“S-so you’re the new neighbor?” Minjoo asked
“Yes! ” Yujin responded with a smile, showing her cute dimples
“So why are you outside?” the new neighbor asked
“I lost my keys, my phone’s already dead, and my parents are away” the shorter answered in distress
“So you’re gonna spend the night outside?”
“I- I don’t know. Perhaps?” sadness can be heard from Minjoo’s tone
“Why don’t you spend the night in my house?” the taller girl offered
“But we barely knew each other”
“You have a point there” Yujin thought so, too “But isn’t it more dangerous for you to stay here in the dark” she continued
“You also have a point there...” Minjoo said in agreement
“...” silence followed
“Are we going to stay here all night?” she asked again
“Are you going to stay with me here all night?” Minjoo chuckled, trying to get rid of the awkward atmosphere
“If you want me to”
the taller girl’s response left her astonished
“If you’re too uncomfortable to enter my house, then I’ll make it sure that you’re safe here at least”
Minjoo lost count of how many times her new neighbor left her speechless
“I won’t leave a pretty girl out here”
“You think I’m pretty?” the hopeless girl blushed
“I think it’s too dangerous if you will still insist to stay here” Yujin answered directly
“and yes, I think you’re pretty” she added in embarrassment
Amused of what is happening, Minjoo didn’t speak anymore
“Let’s go?” Yujin said, uncertain of how would the latter respond
They walked towards the door. No words were exchanged this time.
The taller let the other be. She knew Minjoo was tired already and lead her to the room beside hers
“You could use this room. I have spare clothes inside, you could use those and the other necessities. If you still need something, my room is just beside yours.” Yujin then smiled, revealing her dimples and crescent eyes.
The latter thanked her as she closes the door.
As the house owner was about to sleep in her room, someone knocks. Of course, she knew who it was already. Yujin opened the door and found a clueless-looking Minjoo.
“Wh-“
“I think you’re pretty, too”
Then the latter rushed to her room. Leaving Yujin with a wide smile on her face, caused by the shorter’s cute, innocent actions.
Maybe Minjoo wasn’t really unlucky.

→ “a long road ahead.” || ahn yujin x reader fic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
— you set off on an approximate six-or-more-hour drive with your girlfriend and you come across your greatest enemy: boredom…
word count: 1.4k
tags: fluff, literally just yujin and yn being cute while on the road like stopppp, me when.
requested? : nope.
a/n: is anybody surprised that i'm already on my third yujin fic? no? yeah, me either... anyway this one's going to be kinda short since it's a pretty simple idea to begin with :] hope ya'll like it 🥺💕
Tumblr media
yujin knew that as soon as you dropped your nintendo switch on your lap, you were bored as hell.
she was only able to take a few short glances in your direction from time to time since it was her turn on the wheel, but she could see it all in the little habits that you showed whenever you were weary. your eyes wandered, you couldn’t sit still, you weren’t sitting up straight like you usually did, and the most notable habit, you started talking with impatience evident in your voice.
your constant sighs along with your tiny mumbles and occasional grumbles were nothing short of adorable for yujin. especially with the way you got frustrated from playing animal crossing of all things. but having been your lover for years now, yujin knew all the things that would ease you and hopefully even cure your boredom.
she reaches for her phone and opens it, earning a ‘tsk’ from you.
“eyes on the road, miss.” you said, nudging your girlfriend’s arm.
“i got it, love. one sec.” yujin seamlessly switches to your favourite playlist and triumphantly smiles as she did so. you shook your head, not at all a fan of her recklessness. although you were happy that she thought of playing your favourite songs instead of the usual playlists for a trip like this.
a smile graces yujin’s face when she saw how you’ve relaxed on your seat, softly humming to the songs you love as you stared at the long road ahead.
“you don’t want to take a nap? it’ll be a while before we make a stop.” yujin said, eyes briefly switching from the gps and back onto the road. there were still three and a half hours of driving before the two of you reach your destination. even yujin thinks it might’ve been better if neither of you drove but instead, just flown to that other city.
“and who’s gonna keep you in check? surely not azzo.” you looked at yujin’s beloved puppy sitting on the backseat of the car. azzo was diligently decimating her chew toy. good girl!
“i promise i’ll only stay ten over the speed limit.” yujin says with a cheeky smile, earning a soft punch in the shoulder from you. you don’t fall asleep; it was impossible! yujin found every way to keep you up and alert either by randomly touching your face, taking your hand and kissing it, or simply just letting it rest on your lap. she probably knew, but you were so giddy. you couldn’t hide your smile, even when you turned your face away.
damn yujin. she will always make your heart jump.
if she wasn’t constantly touching you, yujin was singing. and when she was singing, she was a mess. head-banging, slamming her hands on the steering wheel, even honking out of nowhere. yujin didn’t care that she looked stupidly insane, she cared that it made you smile and laugh. although you did scold her when she swerved a bit after singing too passionately.
when you noticed that yujin had a pout on her face a few moments later, you knew only one thing could cheer her up. well, two things. food and kisses, mostly the food part. after giving azzo some treats, you proceeded on feeding yujin and yourself. she had insisted on bring some donuts for the ride, saying that she needed the sugar to keep herself awake. but you knew the silly thing just wanted some donuts.
“you picked all my favourites?” yujin asks. you hum in reply since your mouth was full. you don’t notice the loving look yujin gives you before she turns her head back towards the road. a small action from you, but one she appreciated beyond understanding.
“one could never go wrong with the excellence that is the strawberry flavour.” yujin says, licking her lips. you shook your head and wiped her mouth as best as you could before continuing one eating. yujin was much, much happier after getting fed and a much happier yujin was a much happier you of course!
eventually, and thankfully, you had to stop at a near-empty gas station for a bit of a break and to refill the tank. while yujin busied herself taking azzo out of the car to run around, you decided to stick with the car and fill it up. there were still a few hours of driving left, thinking about it made you groan out loud and roll your eyes. at least it was going to be your turn to drive though, it wouldn’t be too boring.
“babe, we should have lunch.” yujin says after you finished what you needed to do.
“wouldn’t that just keep us on the road for longer?” you asked, scratching your head.
“well, you need to relax! and we both know those donuts didn’t do too much for our stomach. come on, the restaurant’s open.” yujin nods her head to the eatery right next to the gas station—it was empty.
well, you couldn’t exactly say no to food, much less your girlfriend, so you ended up parking the car nearby and entering the eatery with yujin and azzo following close behind. you and yujin (and azzo) chose to sit in the booth on the farthest corner of the eatery, and you stared out of the window and into the empty road.
even if you miraculously teach your destination quicker than expected, there were still things needed to be done that would chip the day away fast. checking in at the hotel, dropping off all your things in your room, organizing the plans for your getaway, dinner, shopping, outfits—
“why’s mama so grumpy today, mommy?” yujin spoke with a ridiculous high-pitched voice. you turned your head and scoffed at the sight of her ‘talking’ with azzo.
“because mama’s got a lot on her mind! see that look in her eyes?” you were glaring at the snickering yujin. “she could summon a storm!” a hearty laugh leaves yujin’s mouth when you rolled your eyes. of course, you would never be upset at yujin and you knew that she was doing these seemingly annoying antics to cheer you up. you loved her a lot for that.
yujin lets azzo sit on her side of the booth before sitting beside you. she wraps an arm around your waist and pulls you close. automatically, you lay your head on her shoulder, sighing blissfully at the feeling of her warmth next to you. “let’s look in the bright side, okay? we finally have all the time in the world just for the two of us, and azzo. as soon as we reach the hotel, we can just have fun and do everything we’ve been wanting to do but couldn’t because of work. think about that, and suddenly, a few more hours of driving doesn’t sound so horrible, huh?”
as always, you could rely on yujin’s positivity to kickstart your own. you nodded, putting your hand on her thigh and squeezing it gently. “you’re right, yujin-ah,” you raised your head slightly, frowning. “sorry i’ve been real stingy this entire time.”
“nah, don’t worry about it,” yujin ruffles your hair and kisses your head, making you giggle and snuggle even closer to her. “i love you even if you’re feisty. and you know i love it when you are.” yujin winks at you, making you grimace and pinch her cheek.
“i love you too, idiot.”
you had a good time at that restaurant. you and yujin took turns feeding each other, discussed the details of your plans only to end up adding even more plans just to maximize your time and fun for as long as you can, and she even teased you about a gift she prepared beforehand which of course got you so curious that you asked her endless questions about it. surprisingly enough, yujin could control herself and managed to not spill a single clue about her gift. she said you simply had to wait and be patient like you always are.
(it was a promise ring. one she would give to you five days from now during a romantic candlelit dinner in a beachside restaurant.)
after eating, you, yujin, and azzo set off in your homey car once again. this time, however, you had a smile on your face! brought only by the cutest girlfriend that made the long drive a lot less boring and more fun, loud, and exciting.

when your girlfriend told you that she was going to give you your well-earned rest, you thought would hand over a free admission to the local spa and massage salon or treat you to a nice dinner by the beautiful lake but then again, your girlfriend is ahn yujin. and ahn yujin was full of surprises.
she stood beside you with her eyes a million times bright than all the colourful lights that surrounded the two of you. she took note of your bewildered and utterly confused expression and laughed as she gently nudged your shoulder with her own. the smell of cinnamon and a whole lot of other sweet things start wafting into your nose, the sounds of machinery and the different music coming from numerous speakers were tantalizing despite your confusion. you turned to your girlfriend (whose eyes did not leave your face the entire time you let everything sink in) and spoke in a quiet voice, “the… fair?”
“THE FAIR!”
a couple of people turned their heads to your direction, making you slightly bow down yours as a small apology. yujin seems unaffected, however, slaps the all-you-can-ride wristband on your arm, “there was no way i was gonna let you miss this, of course! we’re gonna go on every ride, we’re gonna eat a lot of food, and we’re gonna be happy.” she said.
she pulls you aside so the two of you wouldn’t be in the middle of the pathway. yujin looked pretty under the golden lights of the giant carousel the two of you have decided to stand beside in. she takes your hands, “you’ve been wanting a break for a while. and i thought this would be fun. we don’t really do this often.” she raises your hands to your lips and gives them a soft kiss. “is this okay?” she whispers, this time with a quiver in her voice.
“are you kidding?” you smiled at her, then looked around. the entire place was bright with lights, music, energy, and happiness. this was the next best thing yujin could’ve done for you. “it’s more than enough.” and then you kissed her hands in return, grinning when she noticeably got shy.
“come on then, let’s have some fun!” yujin puts a fox ear headband on your head and a dog ear headband on her own before taking your hand and dragging you towards the nearest intense ride in the area.
it was more like yujin was going to have fun and you were going to scream your head off. she made sure to drag you to all of the scary rides. not only will she have the time of her life laughing at you but because you would hug her arm so tightly and refuse to let go the entire ride. was it worth the playful hits on the shoulder after? totally.
at least you beat her on almost all of the carnival games though. except for the ones that involved shooting balls through hoops—yujin played basketball a lot in high school, after all. she won you a lot of stuffed dolls and after the fourteenth doll, you had to drag her away from a game even though she absolutely refused. (she just really wanted to win you that giant snorlax plushie!)
last but not least, the two of you snacked on the variety of food that the fair offered! from corndogs, candy apples, rolled ice cream, shawarma, and (your personal favourite) mini donuts! yujin had insisted on sitting on one of the tables near the stage inside the fair. there was a live band that performed a variety of songs and you teased yujin about going up there and singing with them (since the band was inviting some audience members to sing and show off their talent) but she bashfully refused. always so humble about her talents!
“you’re such a messy eater.” you grabbed a napkin from your bag and wipe the ketchup from her lips (she was eating pigs in a blanket, saying that they looked too cute not to be feasted on). yujin grins while you cleaned her face up, and you couldn’t help but return the smile.
“thanks, love.” yujin says as you trashed the napkin. you pinched her cheek as a response, getting a whine in return. you then opted to watch as the band sang for the crowd, nodding your head along to the music.
(apparently, yujin much rather preferred watching you. her eyes were fixed on your face the entire time the band played. and even when you caught her staring and teased her for it, she refused to look away. happiness looked good on you. yujin wanted that feeling to be constant—even better if she were the one to make it so.)
what to do for the final hour? walk around the park right beside the fair where it was much more quiet, and where the two if you were offered some scenery as you decided to rest in the middle of a bridge. the stream underneath it ran smoothly along its path and you found joy in just staring as the sun reflected on it.
you averted your gaze from the stream to the skies above. a mix of orange, purple, and mostly pink. beautiful.
“look what i got us!” ah, speaking of beautiful. yujin approaches you with two sticks of cotton candy; hers was blue, yours was purple. “i couldn’t resist the kid that sold them. i swear this is our last snack today.” she leaned on the railing as you did, taking a bite out of the sweet stuff she had and humming in approval right after.
the two of you fall into a comfortable silence with only the sounds of the water running and the distant music accompanying you. you move closer to yujin, laying your head on her shoulder as you stared at the trees in the distance. you feel her rest her cheek on your head, and she wraps her free arm around your waist loosely to keep you close.
“did you like all of this, (y/n)?” yujin asked. you feel her thumb caressing your hip. you feel safe.
“of course. this is the best day i’ve had in a while,” you raised your head slightly. all your worries and troubles seem to just melt away when you look at yujin. “so thank you.” you lean close, laughing slightly when your foreheads bumped against each other by accident, and gave yujin a kiss so light it made her want more.
she doesn’t ask for more, she simply takes it. politely, of course. yujin tilts her head and catches your lips in a searing kiss. you giggled at her enthusiasm but you returned the affection with the same energy, your own free arm snaking around her back and clutching her sweater. her lips tasted sweet, must be the cotton candy. you liked it.
yujin pulls you closer (maybe she tasted the cotton candy on you too), never really having enough of your kiss and always needing more. a gust of wind blows towards your direction and what with yujin melting you into a puddle, your grip on your cotton candy stick loosens, making you accidentally drop it into the stream.
“shoot—sorry, yuj.” you apologized, watching as the water washed the cotton candy away along with its stick.
“it’s okay,” yujin gives you a kiss on your temple and pats your head. “we can share this one!” she said, raising her cotton candy to your face. well, with a smile like hers, how could you resist? you took a bite out of the blue cotton candy, humming in approval at its delicious blueberry flavour. yujin couldn’t resist kissing you again, making you giggle but it was welcomed.
“i’m glad you enjoyed this day, (y/n),” yujin presses her forehead against yours. “and i want to give you more days like these. if you let me.”
you laughed softly and gave her nose a small kiss, “i’m looking forward to it all, love.”
the two of you spent the rest of your time there on that bridge—warm and happy while sharing cotton candy kisses underneath the pretty, pink skies.

September. Junior year. Ahn Yujin becomes the talk of the town.
She ditched the short hair and bangs, the oversized sweaters, the baggy sweatpants, the comics and manga she always had stuffed in her bag, and her glasses. It was all replaced by long and shiny light brown hair, clothes that hugged her slender body, unnecessarily expensive-looking school supplies, and clear contact lenses that made her eyes burn with a certain fire.
You can admit that just like everyone else, you were awestruck when you first saw her saunter down the hallway on the first day of school. Who wouldn't? Ahn Yujin has always been drop-dead gorgeous, at least that was your opinion. She has always caught your eye, even when she was wearing those adorable black-rimmed glasses. You didn't see the whole situation as a 'makeover' but more of an... 'upgrade'.
Although it was not like Ahn Yujin of all people needed it.
Ever since her big 'makeover', Yujin was the only thing everyone was talking about. It made you uncomfortable how the boys would talk about her, but at least they weren't being gross. You just hated the fact that everyone was suddenly looking at her because she 'got pretty'. That claim made your blood boil. Even if you weren't good friends with Yujin, you would always consider her as the prettiest girl you've ever seen.
You were worried that Yujin did all this to be liked by everyone. She didn't need to. She had a heart of gold, a fun personality, interesting traits, and a natural talent at making people pay attention to her. That was what made you so interested in her, and that was what made you want to approach her and get to know her.
You just wished that people felt the same as you.
"It can't be helped that people just want to get in other people's pants, (Y/N)," Yuna tells you one day. Her statement made you hit her shoulder lightly, not liking the way she talks about Yujin. "It's true, though! Not everybody is pure and genuinely kind as you are. It's unfortunate, but it's how high school works."
"You spend too much time binging shows on Netflix is what it sounds like to me." Seeun quips. She smacks her lips and gives you your peach-flavored chapstick back, showing you her natural and beautiful smile. Yuna says something about how some shows accurately depict the way school days turn into fashion shows but you decided to shut her out and focus on Ahn Yujin, who was standing in front of her own locker surrounded by a couple of boys. Her poor soul.
Yujin looked like she was diligently listening to whatever those boys were saying, but her tight-lipped smile and frequent nods were a cry for help. Yujin's eyes leaves one of the loud boys for a second and meets yours. You flinched, she puts her attention back on the boys as if nothing happened.
"(Y/N), Ryujin's bored so she wants to take us to the outdoor theatre after school. Wanna come along?" Yuna asks. Without looking, you shut your locker tight and started walking towards Yujin, ignoring your friends' calls and questions. You've seen this situation before, and you always know what to do.
Yujin never asked you to do it, nor did you ever tell her that you would do it. But every time she had a crowd on her, her eyes would meet yours among the sea of people and something just pulls you to her.
"Hey, Yujin," You would say when you arrived in the crowd. Everyone would stop talking because you were (Y/N). Nobody dared to talk over you because you were harmless, you were nice, and Yujin knew you. "Ready to go?" You would reach out to her and she would take your hand without hesitation. The two of you always leave in silence.
Yujin would loosen her grip the more the two of you walk away from the crowd. You figured that being around that many boys would make her feel overwhelmed, no matter how calm and collected she looked. You stop in front of your locker where Seeun and Yuna watched the whole scene, as they have been doing countless times since Yujin gathered everybody's attention.
"Chivalry isn't dead," Yuna smirks. You rolled your eyes, and your hand slips out of Yujin's grip. "Although you should really grow a pair and reject them all at once, Yujin."
The girl in question sighs, "I should, but none of them ever even told me they like me! I don't want to look like a stuck-up." Yujin exclaimed. Even when stressed, she looked pretty. That was a weird observation but you just couldn't ignore it.
You failed to suppress a flinch when Yujin beams at you. "Thanks again, (Y/N). You're my hero." She tells you, leaning into you and bumping you gently with her shoulder.
"Don't mention it." You muttered, fiddling with the straps of your backpack. Seeun smiles at you with knowing eyes, but you ignore her.
The four of you make your way towards your first class which you all coincidentally share. Yuna and Yujin lead the way as they chatted loudly about everything; from their breakfast to their dinner plans. Meanwhile, you and Seeun trailed behind them. Quiet, which was unusual considering Seeun usually had something to say whether it was about her girlfriend Chaeyoung or schoolwork, but no. She seemed lost in her thoughts, but you were too.
Yujin would occasionally look back, mostly at you. It would be a quick glance so you usually don't have time to smile or do anything. You would always be too surprised to do anything at all. But this time, you catch her staring, you give her your best smile, she returns it, and flowers bloom everywhere.
Yujin always had that effect on you. She always will — thick glasses or nothing at all.
~
"Just tell her, (Y/N)."
Halfway through your third period, you excused yourself to the restroom to wash your hands. Coincidentally, Seeun was in the same restroom to do the same thing and one minute into making sure the soap covers every inch of your hands, she says that.
"Tell who what exactly, Seeun?"
You weren't really asking for real, but that was your last line of defense.
"Yujin. That you like her."
You scoffed, turning on the faucet and washing the soap off your hands, "I don't know what you're talking about. Yujin's our friend. I don't crush on friends." You stated. You avoid looking up in the mirror because you would definitely see Seeun staring at you. She always does that. Always trying to take everyone apart through her eyes.
"That's true. You don't. So why are you?" Seeun insists. Finally, you look at her, not bothering to dry your hands first.
Yujin isn't your first crush, of course not. There was Yeojin before her, and before Yeojin there was Lucy. Normally, you would tell your crush about your feelings because it would be too much for you to keep to yourself, and only to your friends. No matter what your crush said, whether they rejected you or accepted and returned your feelings, you would turn out fine. Most of the time you would even do something bold to make your feelings known, but there was something about Yujin that made you so terrified of doing anything that may give her a hint of what you feel for her.
It was her reputation, and what people made her out to be after her 'makeover'. All kinds of students took notice of her. Surely that would've changed Yujin's thoughts of everybody in some way, right?
Perhaps even her standards of what kind of person she should date?
"It's not even about whether or not she's into you," Seeun gives you some tissues, and you dried off your hands. You could really look at her this time. Of course, she was smiling. Seeun was genuinely concerned for what you were feeling, but she was really just here for the excitement of setting people up to date. She loved love. "What are you scared of, (Y/N)?" Seeun asked.
Sighing, you threw the soaked tissue paper into the garbage bin. There was no point in denying it now. "I... I don't want Yujin to think that I'm just like those boys." You admitted.
Seeun's smile only widens. She's beautiful, she really is, but you can't help but think that she was plotting something. It's always the pretty girls. "Yujin adores you. Trust me, (Y/N)." You blushed at your friend's words, but you shook your head.
"You don't know that, Ssen." You sighed.
"No, you don't know because you like her so much you can't even look at her to notice the little things she does!" Seeun exclaims, laughing slightly. You were always afraid that you'd show how much she means to you if you were to ever stare at Yujin for too long. You'd never admit that, though. Not to Seeun anyway.
"I don't know what to do. She's... out of my league. I mean, obviously." You said, gesturing to yourself.
Seeun clicks her tongue several times, "Nuh-uh, that's what we're not going to do, (Y/N). You're wonderful. Remember when I crushed on you? Yeah, wild times. Listen to me," Your friend takes your hands in hers. Her eyes shined with mischief. God, you feared for your life. "Ryujin is going to take you, me, Yuna, and Yujin to the outdoor theatre and you'll talk to Yujin, okay?"
Your eyebrows shots up at her words that indicated confessions, and you hated those!
"You'll talk to her and finally spare me and Yuna of the misery of watching you two play push and pull," Seeun wraps an arm around your shoulders and leads you out of the restroom. Your heart feels light once again. "Seriously. These two years have been hard for us."
Seeun thinks I'm wonderful. Yuna thinks I'm pure and kind.
You stared through the windows of your classroom after you parted with Seeun and returned to your classes, your attention drifting away from the lesson and going someplace else.
Your eyes slowly, almost automatically, move from the clear blue skies to one Ahn Yujin, who was sitting a few seats close to the front of the classroom in the middle row. Breathtaking. That's what she was.
What do you think of me, Yujin?
~
A few minutes away from the school, there stood a quaint ice cream parlor that you've grown to love. Yujin was the one who found it first, then Yuna started dragging all of you there every other week, mostly after a long and gruesome day in school. Today was one of those days, apparently.
"Yuna, you're smart. You're just lazy as fuck and refuse to take your studies seriously," Ryujin is Yuna's older sister, and she decided to join you and the girls early. She really was bored. Lia must be so busy with university if she can't even find the time to hang out with Ryujin on a Friday. "If I can graduate high school, then anyone can!"
"But it's really not my fault that Mr. Lee's lessons on logarithms are boring! And why do I even need to study that?!"
"It's part of the curriculum, Yuna."
"No shit it is! What I'm trying to say is that I don't need to learn about any of that since I'm going to be the biggest pop sensation after Britney Spears!" The youngest in the circle argued.
Yujin leans to your side, "Is she really serious about that?" She whispered.
You nodded, "Yes. She's going to be auditioning for that big entertainment company next weekend." You answered. It made you smile, how Yuna continues to dream big.
"Huh," Yujin takes a spoonful of her bubblegum ice cream. You looked at her, taking in her facial features. Her eyes were as clear as daylight. Your heart jumps every time they turn into crescent moons whenever she smiled and laughed. It was the classic Yujin thing to fall for. "Can I have some of that?" Yujin asks, pointing her spoon at your cup.
You barely touched your mocha ice cream, mostly due to the fact that you were more interested in hearing Ryujin talk about her life in med school. "Sure." You scooped up a good portion of your ice cream and urged for Yujin to take her spoon and scoop it off of yours, but to your surprise, she does the one thing you wished you would've done first.
Yujin leans in and eats the ice cream of your spoon instead. She grins at your bewildered reaction, satisfied with what she has done. "Thanks, (Y/N)."
Awkwardly, you let out a chuckle. You had no doubts that your face resembled the color of a beet. As much as you didn't want to make obvious that what Yujin absolutely sent your heart into overdrive, you were horrible at hiding that kind of feeling. So you hid behind your cup, pretending to be interested in the way the ice cream starts to melt. Yujin continues chatting with Ryujin and Yuna. But she was mostly instigating pointless debates just to see the sisters argue and talk over each other.
"I wish Chaeyoung was here to see this." Seeun mumbled from your left. You gently kicked her ankle under the table and glared at her. Seeun only laughs at the look on your face, and the two of you join the other three and their shenanigans.
There were a few things that changed. Yujin sat closer to you, and whenever she laughed, she would lean into your shoulder. She would also occasionally feed you her ice cream and blind you with her signature dimpled grin when you accepted. Mocha and bubblegum were wasn't among the best ice cream combinations out there, but you would never pass out on the opportunity to make Yujin happy.
Your ice cream continues to melt, and by the time Yujin and the others gets their second cup, yours turned into a drink. You decided not to get another one, not wanting to waste any more money. Yujin continues to feed you her ice cream, continues to charm you with her smiles, and continues to make you fall for her.
She can be mean like that sometimes.
"Do you know which movie they're going to be playing in the outdoor theatre tonight?" Seeun asks Yuna. The four of you stood outside the entrance of the ice cream parlor as you waited for Ryujin to pull up at the sidewalk with her truck. She had it parked somewhere else, saying that she didn't feel like having it right in front of the entrance. And she calls Yuna lazy.
Your stomach was full from all the ice cream you consumed. The things I do to make the girl I like happy. You were totally not looking forward to suffering to your choice of not buying food from the several vendors at the theatre's vicinity.
"Heathers. They have a thing for playing classic movies in there," Yuna laughs to herself. "They're basically setting up the perfect coming-of-age date to all the hopeless romantics out there." She says. You couldn't miss the way she quickly glanced at you, and you held back the urge to roll your eyes.
"I love Heathers." You and Yujin say simultaneously. Her enthusiastic grin melts your heart, especially under the pleasant lighting the street lamps offered.
"I didn't know you two were into those movies," Seeun says. She definitely did. "Aren't you just perfect for each other?" She teased. Maybe you were it was all in your imagination, but you saw how Yujin shyly averted her gaze somewhere else. She started chewing on the corner of her lips, a bad habit that always surfaces when she's nervous. Or incredibly flustered.
Yeah, it's the bubblegum ice cream. They put something in there that's making me delusional.
"As much as I'll be happy for the two of you when you date, I don't think I can handle another sickeningly sweet pair around me." Yuna fakes disgust in her face. It almost made you spiral into madness at how she was clearly insinuating that you and Yujin would eventually be together.
More than friends. As a real couple.
Your cheeks burned at the idea. Your friends could use them as heating pads in the winter.
"Alright, my children! Hop in the Ryujinmobile!" The older Shin finally arrives. Yuna wastes no team and runs towards the passenger seat. Seeun groans, realizing she lost the battle before it even started.
Seeun settles on sitting on the left-most side of the backseat, you sat on the middle, and Yujin sat closest towards the right side.
"There's some blankets in there, use it. It'll be freezing by the time the movie starts playing." Ryujin says as she started driving towards the recreation center, where the outdoor theatre was being held.
"Wow, you're well prepared." Seeun places the blankets on her lap.
"Jisu and I used to go to these all the time," Ryujin wears a pleasant smile on her face, probably reminiscing her days in high school where it was so much more easier to hang out with her beloved. "Well, I snuck her out most of the time, but you get the idea."
I do, you turned your head and stared at Yujin, who was busy looking outside the window and getting lost in her own thoughts. I wonder if we'll ever have those kinds of dates too.
You never used to doubt your imaginations of what could happen when it came to dating Yujin. Yes, now you can really admit that you always crushed on her. Way before she started wearing leather pants and crop tops and tight ponytails. Once, you saw yourself and Yujin sneaking out of your homes at midnight. The two of you would run around town, and you would find solace in a place only the two of you would know.
Those fantasies filled you with joy, and hope because it was just so... Yujin.
But then junior year rolls around and she changes the tides. Is she even the same old dorky Ahn Yujin you fell in love with all those years ago?
"(Y/N), look," Yujin takes your hand and points outside the window with her other. You followed her finger, and you saw a poodle at the sidewalk playing with his owner. Yujin giggles and doesn't stop staring at the dog until it was completely out of sight. You held her hand a little tighter, she returns the action. "Isn't it so cute?" She says. Wordlessly, you nodded.
Yujin doesn't say anything else. She intertwines your fingers and lets your hands settle on her lap.
What was I thinking?
You affectionately ran your thumb over the side of her hand.
She'll always be the same old Yujin.
~
"Move over."
"God, why did the two of you have to be so long?!"
"Why did Ryujin's truck had to be the tiniest truck in the world?!"
"Ryu— she's facetiming Lia, she can't hear us. MOVE!"
You, Yujin, Yuna, and Seeun sat at the back of Ryujin's truck. Surprisingly enough, the four of you fit. But it was tight, and all of you have been trying to get comfortable for the past twenty minutes since the movie started but to no avail. Still, even though all of you were yelling over each other and shoving one another, you were still giggling uncontrollably. You've earned a few shushes since you started pushing each other.
"Okay, okay, clearly this isn't working out," Seeun leans back, sighing in defeat. She grins at you and your eye twitched. "Me and Yuna will find a way to make this tiny space comfortable for all of us. (Y/N), Yujin, how about you get us some snacks? I'll pay you back." By setting up a convenient confession moment. You could imagine Seeun's words in your head.
Yujin hops off the truck immediately, finding no reason to stay. She reaches out for you, "Need help?" She asked. You took her hand and she assists you as you jumped over the side.
"Get me two corndogs so I can shove one down Ryujin's throat for not bringing the bigger truck!" Yuna yells as you and Yujin walk away from them.
"That costs extra money for you!"
"I don't care! She deserves it!"
You laugh at Yujin and Yuna's exchange. The taller girl beams at you, then she takes your hand again and started pulling you towards the multiple food stands sprawled throughout the parking lot. Since it was a Friday, it didn't come as a surprise to you that the place would be packed.
By the time you and Yujin got the food Seeun and Yuna requested for, Heather Chandler dies from drinking the hangover drink made by J.D. and Veronica.
"They're selling... bear-shaped cotton candy." You stated, staring at the adorable blue bear cotton candy inside a clear plastic bag. It looked delicious, and cute!
"You want one?" Yujin asked. You wanted to nod your head, but you did the opposite, refusing to make Yujin spend her money for you of all things. However, Yujin didn't even wait for your reply and make a beeline towards the cotton candy stand. Fortunately for her, the line wasn't that long.
"Hi! I'd like to get one bag of the bear ones for my—" Yujin catches herself. The vendor raise an eyebrow, smirking at your flustered reaction. "For h-her. For her." The tall girl points at you.
(My girlfriend. Oh, how Yujin wanted to say it.)
The vendor hands Yujin a bag, but the cotton candy bear was big. It was big enough to be shared by two to three people. You and Yujin send a puzzled look to the vendor, who was wearing an endearing smile.
"This one's on me. I have a soft spot for youngsters that beat around the bush. Takes me back!" The vendor laughs loudly. Yujin takes the bag, her face red and probably burning. You and Yujin walk away from the cotton candy stand, suddenly not finding it in you to make small conversation.
Yuna immediately swipes the two corndogs off of your hands and gives one to her older sister. Seeun smiles at Yujin and mutters words of gratitude as she accepted the bag of popcorn. Yujin got herself a couple of skewers, which got your stomach rumbling. And you had a cup of hot chocolate and a bag of bear-shaped cotton candy. Such a nice combination of food.
Seeun and Yuna miraculously found a way to make the back of the truck comfortable for all of you. You expected loud chatters and food wars, but the girls were surprisingly quiet. It wasn't even because they were focused on the movie, they were just exhausted. Even Ryujin almost looked like she was going to pass out on the backseat of her truck while facetiming her girlfriend. Seeum blinks the fatigue away, and Yuna tries her best to focus on the movie.
Yujin, however, kept her eyes on the big screen. She was unusually silent. She was hugging her knees as she watched the movie. It was funny — how this incredibly loud group of girls can go from yelling over each other during a movie to being dead silent.
I bet Yuna's going to sleep until late in the afternoon.
"Where are you going?" Yujin softly asks when she sees you hopping off the side of the truck very carefully. Seeun and Yuna didn't even bother to spare you a glance. Maybe they were already asleep.
"I feel like talking a little stroll," You tell the tall girl, clutching your sweater a little tighter around yourself as if it would shield you from the wind. "I've seen this movie at least a hundred times in this lifetime, anyway." I can probably recite the entire script in my head.
Yujin looks at Yuna, then Ryujin, then Seeun (who totally did not give her an encouraging nod), and then back at you. "Take me away." She whispers, grinning as she reaches out for you. You chuckled and helped her off the truck.
When Yujin gets both of her feet on the ground, she doesn't let go of your hand. You don't let go of hers.
Despite what you kept telling yourself, that you and Yujin were just going to take a calming stroll around the theatre to wash away your exhaustion, there was a little voice in your head that kept telling you the same phrases over and over again.
This is it.
This is your chance.
Tell her, (Y/N).
~
From where you and Yujin ended up taking a break in, the screen and Ryujin's truck were mere specks in the distance. You could still see the movie, though, and you still couldn't help but watch it despite your claims earlier. You tried to make excuses for yourself; that you were only watching the movie because it really was a great movie. But you knew the real reason why you were doing that.
Right now, you'd do anything to avoid looking at Yujin. You were afraid that your eyes would betray you, and tell Yujin just how much she means to you. Emotions are powerful like that.
You pressed your arms on the empty bike racks, eyes glued to the distant big screen. Yujin puts her hands on the cold steel and stands tall beside you. You could feel her thinking of things to say to you.
It never really used to be this awkward when you two were left alone, but somewhere along the way, something in the air changed. You knew it was because you started developing feelings for Yujin, but you couldn't figure out her reasons.
Did she not like your company? Did she think you were a bore?
No, Yujin isn't like that.
Yujin isn't also the awkward type, so what was going on?
Realizing that you were only giving yourself more questions to answer and dwell over, you forced yourself to stop thinking and start talking. Anything would work. Hell, you could even bring up school, Ryujin and Lia's strong relationship, Yuna's dreams, and even the goddamn bike rack the two of you occupied.
Instead, the only words that left your mouth was the last topic you wanted to bring up.
"I'm surprised you didn't pull a Veronica Sawyer on us," You blurted out. When Yujin doesn't respond, you turn your head to look at her. She had a somewhat dazed look on her face as she stared at you. Has she been watching me this whole time? She blinks, forcing herself back in reality. "Resident dork turns into local hottie, like Veronica, but proceeds on hanging out with the association of geeks instead of the cool girls, not really Veronica." You joked.
(Yujin blushed. She hoped that the darkness offered enough cover to make you unable to see her state.)
"You, Seeun, and Yuna are literally the coolest girls I've ever met. What are you talking about?" Yujin bumps her shoulder onto yours again, effectively making you smile for the first time in the many long minutes you've been alone together.
"You know what I mean, Ahn." You said quietly, almost as a whisper. You stood up straight, and you now only realized how close you and Yujin had really gotten. Still, you didn't let your feelings win over your composure, so you stood your ground. Yujin didn't have to tilt her head down to meet your eyes, but she still had to look down.
Ahn Yujin completely faces you now, and she chews on the corner of her bottom lip. She's... nervous? Around me? "(Y/N)... I really don't know what to tell you here." Yujin says, breaking eye contact.
You averted your gaze to the ground, "Just making conversation." That was a lame excuse.
Yujin snorts, "Where'd you get these conversation starters ideas from? Im Yeojin?"
"Oh, shut up," You punched her arm lightly and stepped back, putting some decent distance between the two of you. Yujin's soft laugh sets your heart rate at ease. "I just... always thought that it was awfully convenient of you change yourself right when we're a year away from graduating." You continued. Was that too much? Did I even need to say that at all? I should have just steered this boat somewhere else.
Yujin pauses. She takes a step forward, you don't move an inch from your spot. There was a part of your heart that breaks when you spotted a flash of disappointment in her clear eyes. "(Y/N), why do you think I did all this?" She gestures to herself.
You didn't need to think about your answer. "Perhaps you were sick of getting pushed around because you read Boku no Hero Academia. Although, it's really not your fault you have generic taste in shounen mangas." You joked.
"What, you're telling me you have better taste? Are you going to recommend me Kimetsu no Yaiba because if we're talking about generic shounen manga plotlines..." Yujin sucks air between her teeth as she shook her head.
You gasp dramatically, "It happens to be one of the best generic shounen series I have ever read, mind you!"
Yujin laughs at you, and silence came after that. You were quick to clear the air after a solid minute, however.
"I didn't mean to say anything that might've offended you, Yujin," You said. The tall girl decides to listen. "I'll always support you in whatever you do, just like I support Yuna and her dream of being Britney 2.0."
"Thank you, (Y/N). I know you mean well. No offense taken," Yujin tells you. Your chest feels a little less tight now. "But seriously, did you think I went through this... makeover because I wanted people to stop picking on me and think that I'm more than just a dork?" She asked, to which you nodded to.
At first, it seemed that Yujin was confident of her next words, but then she hesitates for a brief second. She reconsiders her next actions, and gets in a battle against herself while you stood waiting for her. You could hear your heart beating in your ears.
"(Y/N), please don't hate me," Yujin pleads. You wanted to tell her that you would never ever hate her, but then she gently takes your hands and pulls you close, forcing you to look only at her and nothing else. "I never cared about what people said about me. In fact, I would still be in graphic hoodies and sweatpants if it weren't... for you."
Your mind stops. What?
"I... w-wanted you to look at me— see me. Really see me. (Y/N), I've liked you for so long, and the fact that you would never see me as more than a friend killed me. So I... I did what I thought I would never be able to do," Yujin drops your hands. You were too in over your head to let them drop to your sides, so instead they hang in the air. "I dyed my beautiful natural locks, I ditched my geeky comics and mangas and my pastel backpack plastered with cheap shiny pins, I started wearing crop tops because I also started working out and got some sick abs and I wanted to impress you with them, and... and I don't know. I guess I just wanted you to give me a second glance."
"But the total opposite happened! It was those gross boys a-and those not-very-nice girls that took notice of me! Now I'm just freaking out because maybe I did all of this for nothing!" Yujin starts rambling. Tears even started forming in her eyes, and you could hear her voice crack the longer she talks.
Maybe you should say a few words. You never want to see any of your friends cry, especially not Yujin and especially not over you! But damn, was this something that will take at least a full week to process.
Ahn Yujin likes (Y/N) (L/N). Goddamn.
"Say something." Yujin mumbles. She couldn't even bring herself to look at you.
"Jin-ah," The familiar nickname effectively put a stop to Yujin's uncontrollable pacing. "I'm sorry. I didn't know this was messing you up. I also didn't know... you liked me like that."
Yujin squeezes her eyes shut and a lone tear falls down her cheek. "Just reject me already." She says.
Instead of doing what Yujin requested, you raised your hand and cupped her cheek. Yujin slowly opens her eyes, and you rub your thumb to wipe her tear away. "How am I going to do that, hm? When I like you so much I can't express it with enough words?"
You pull her close, refusing to let her wander off to where you can't reach her. "Yujin, can I... kiss you?" You asked. Yujin doesn't answer. Not with words anyway. She completely deletes the distance between the two of you and crashes your lips together.
The kiss was eager, sloppy, and messy, but you couldn't blame Yujin. This was her first kiss, and she was probably on cloud nine so of course she wouldn't care if she was doing it properly or not. With that in mind, you pull back a little. Yujin refuses to let you move. She locked her arms around your waist tightly, but you weren't planning on going anywhere.
You cupped her other cheek with your free hand and pulled her in again for softer and pleasant kiss. It was slow, gentle, and you could finally get Yujin to calm down. Turns out when her heart isn't going crazy, she can be a good kisser.
You pull away again, just to see how Yujin was feeling. She was out of breath, and delirious from what had just happened. You were too but you had to try your best to take care of Yujin, as much as your heart wanted to leap out of your ribcage. It was just starting to dawn on you that this was really happening.
"One more time, please?"
Grinning, you brushed Yujin's hair away from her face affectionately. "You don't even need to ask, Jin-ah." And so you do what you were asked.
"You like me," Yujin says when you pull away again. You lost track of how long you and Yujin were kissing. Heathers was probably reaching its end, and your friends were probably starting to worry. But you really couldn't care about anything else, or look at anything else, but Yujin right now. The tall girl plays with the hem of your top, then she beams at you. "You really like me?" She asked.
"Of course." You answered.
"Even when I wore those dumb specs?"
You laughed, bumping your nose against hers. Before you caught her lips again, you made sure to get rid of every bit of Yujin's worries, "Especially when you wore those dumb specs."
The bright look on Yujin's face told you that she will always be that endearing dork you fell in love with all those years ago, and you would never trade her for anything else in the world.
