alice creel isn’t karen wheeler- but she might be somebody else: an analysis of alice creel and connie frazier and jefferson airplane’s white rabbit
So, I think there’s a solid chance that “Connie Frazier,” might be Alice Creel.
Tumblr media
Alice was 15 in 1959, and therefore was born in 1944, which would make her 39 in 1983.
Connie’s age isn’t confirmed anywhere, unfortunately, but the actress who plays her, Catherine Dyer, was 58 as of 2016, when S1 was filmed. Admittedly, this is a fairly large gap between what Alice’s age should be vs what Catherine Dyer’s age is, however, Mike Wheeler is also supposed to be fourteen, so I think that the ages of the actors vs the characters in ST has a bit of wiggle room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m not just basing this off of looks, though- the name “Alice,” literally plays in a scene where Connie’s face is on screen/it’s focused on Connie.
The lyric “go ask Alice,” plays during this scene, and even cuts to Connie RIGHT as the name “Alice,” is sung, having focused on Benny for the “go ask,” part of the line.
Tumblr media
And prior to this scene at the door, we also have the “call Alice,” lyric that plays, which, right as it plays Benny says “Whoever it is, I’ll tell them to go away real quick.” The fact that the name “Alice,” plays right after Benny talks about going to see who is at the door is suspicious, almost like it’s Alice at the door.
Tumblr media
As well, the full line for the “call alice,” part goes “call alice- when she was just small.” And Alice Creel was small/15 years old the first/last time we saw her (1959) but now is not small anymore/is grown up.
Tumblr media
That’s two instances of Connie being referred to while the name “Alice,” plays in the show. The first time, it literally cuts to Connie’s face as the name “Alice,” is sung, and the second time, Benny talks about seeing who is at the door (Connie) while we hear Connie knocking and the name “Alice,” is sung once again.
It’s also interesting that Benny literally called Connie/called social services and Connie/the lab seem to have been listening in on the call and interfered. And if Connie is Alice, then Benny literally called Alice.
Also, it almost seems like Connie’s has her mind wiped- she’s extremely focused on her mission, seems to have little personality or interests outside of it, and kills Benny in cold blood with basically zero hesitation.
And look at how Connie lays on the ground, bleeding from her eyes, compared to how Alice laid on the ground, supposedly bleeding from her eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s also interesting to me that they chose to revisit Connie’s death in S4, the same season where we’re introduced to Alice Creel for the first time. Sullivan hands Owens a picture of Connie’s death when talking about El- almost like ST production is giving us a subtle reminder of what Connie’s death looked like and how eerily similar it was to Alice’s “death.”
I’m not 100% sure if Connie is Alice yet, but the parallels are definitely interesting, and if Brenner picked up Henry from the Creel house that night (which he did), then I don’t think it’s a stretch for him to have grabbed Alice too. What if Henry is part of what happens when MKultra brainwashing fails, but Connie/Alice is what happens when it succeeds? Not the powers part of it persay but simply the *brainwashing* part and destruction and rebuilding of the mind that was involved in the real mkultra. (The two main steps for mind control were thought to be to wipe then mind snd then rebuild it, which likely would’ve been what happened to Alice). And even though Alice seems dead at the Creel house, there’s so much weirdness with all of those scenes and the position of her body changes throughout various retellings and she seems like her eyes may not even be bleeding in some of them- she may also have regenerative healing like Henry (and likely like Virginia) which would explain her survival.
And then we also get this scene- look at the curtains. We have the orange curtain behind Connie and the orange curtain behind Virginia, and we have both Connie and Virginia wearing orange plaid and they both have similar hairstyles, and the blanket behind Connie is the same sort of orange and white colours as Virginia’s shirt and the framing with the OTS shot of Victor in Virginia’s screenshot vs the OTS shot of Scott in Connie’s screenshot- if Connie is Alice, then it would make sense to parallel grown-up Alice to her mother (Virginia).
Tumblr media
It’s also interesting to me that they chose scott for this scene- scott, who would’ve been at school at the same time as Henry and likely would’ve met Alice at some point, but wouldn’t recognize her anymore, especially because she’s supposed to be dead.

The Curious Case of The Dead Wheeler Granny
Also known as: I need to make a cohesive post that actually has context so i can add it to the ✨ master post ✨. So basically if you already know, you know. idk.
So... recently have been thinking A Lot about weird "production errors" (tm) and creel home fuckery + wheeler parallels. Its no secret that there are Many references to the creel home in the wheeler home for whatever reason, from the piano to the wedding dress to even the clock chimes (?) close to the the door way of the wheeler home.
However one of the most fascinating Choices was when the main urn that sat on the wheeler mantle place since s1 suddenly changed to a completely different urn during the convergence of the four gates at the climax of s4. What was the reason for this? It's also no secret that ST is riddled with what we can call "intentional" errors in objects, peoples positions, etc etc. But why a seemingly random object that has been sitting in the background of the home for 4 seasons w/o any special attention? And why at the important climax of the season?
Season 1
Tumblr media
Season 4- before the climax
Tumblr media
Season 4- after the climax
Tumblr media
(and this isnt even to mention the fact that the wheeler dining room is covered in rose vases that mimic the OG urn)
If you reference this back to the mantle place in the Creel home... there is something quite interesting:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A few little trinkets, weirdly placed and evenly spread out. There is a little bird (dove?) statue like how the wheelers have two geese statues sitting on their mantle place. Next to that though? A strange looking golden vase. Mind you, this is happened when Virginia is having her "holding up the mirror" moment. As in this mirror is right there reflecting Virginia and this little urn-looking vase trinket and the rose-y wallpaper behind her (which is interesting given that the OG urn has pink roses on it with a framed picture of pink roses next to it).
Put the Virginia relation in your back pocket for now. Lets go up to the stuff in the Creel attic, which are heavily referenced in the wheeler home, in particular the wedding dress:
Tumblr media
Where has have we seen a piece of a brides clothing in s4? In Suzie's home, where her sister Tabitha is wearing a wedding veil, and you guess it, a pink floral (roses? Honestly the color scheme is very similar to the creel wallpaper mentioned above) dress:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In which Tabitha pretends to die. She's not really dying. The joke here is that Tabitha's father had thought she was dying though ("it looked genuine"). And oh... is that the edge of a grandfather clock I see right outside the doorway framed right there this scene?
If I was extra weird about it I could also point out that the letter blocks on Tabitha's bracelet kind of spell out (M?)AMA. But its super blurry and I cant get a good shot of it so take this with a grain of salt:
Tumblr media
A little sprinkle of Petergate here but Tabitha is a woman who was raised from the dead by Saint Peter:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which I mean... If we're going to talk about lying about moms dying? The "Nanas got cancer" gag in s3 in which... Hopper lies about Mikes Nana being sick but then goes onto say:
Tumblr media
There's nothing wrong with Nana
Mike then proceeds to repeatedly call him a liar. So... nothing's wrong with Nana? Would that explain the weird trend of people specifically lying over the phone about having a sick family member also in s3/s4?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(credit: screenshots from this @/heroesbyler post - unrelated to this theory, I just think its neat)
And if we're talking about lies:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(oh holly girl... wearing that pink + white outfit and that rose shirt lmao)
And of course: Papa lies.
(don't even get me started on how the grandfather clock most likely represents Brenner ("maybe hes a clock maker?" and s4 literally starting with Brenner setting a timer))
But this begs the question... If, by all accounts, nothing is wrong with Nana, so much so it would be like she was raised from the dead, then who's ashes do the Wheeler's have on their mantle place thinking that its their granny?
Could it be, thinking back to the weird trinket on front of the mirror in the Creel home, Virginia's ashes instead? Quick question, where exactly are Virginia and Alice buried? Did Victor get a say in his wife's funeral arrangements?
And if Nana Wheeler's death was a lie designed to conceal a truth and Papa lies... ah who am i kidding it was martin brenner. it was fucking brenner who else would do some weird shit like this. it was him.
Anyways things like this really make me question why exactly the Wheelers are one of two main families in the show. As far as I know they didn't do much in TFS, so hell, why not Patty? Bob? The Sin Claires?
Regardless, I would really like them to be kind and rewind back to whatever is going on here if you know what I mean

Theory: the car crash in the winter of 1976 (Part I)
You can read Part II here
I've been working a lot on this theory, and I keep finding things lol. In this post I focus on '76. In Part II I'll talk about the cars.
I think there are many hints that there might've been a car crash in the past (for example, the wheelbarrows) and that that's the event that separated El from her family, Joyce, Hopper and her brothers.
Basically, the theory is that she wasn't abducted at birth. The lab helped her parents to have her and Will (I think Jon is Lonnie's kid) because of Agent Orange. And maybe Brenner was waiting for El to be old enough to test her abilities, or maybe it's something else. Anyway, I think she lived five years with her family, then there was a car crash and powers/a time loop saved her. Or she was brought to the hospital and it was there that powers made her "crawl backwards", like Steve says to Nancy in S4 (here)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And "be swapped in the hospital (to tell you the truth)" like Karen says in S3. I have also a theory about Karen, but that's for another post. It's interesting that she says at the hospital, and not at birth, and in S4 Brenner calls the lab hospital.
I think that from that moment in 1976 it was like El was never part of the family and she became "Terry's kid" and a lab kid. "One's kid." The flashback of Sara's death could be an altered memory of what happened to Will and El after the accident. Or maybe there's even a bigger twist about Sara, but I won't talk about it here. This post is long already, lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@chirpsythismorning noticed something interesting. When El saves Max, the camera rotates counterclockwise. And her arm reminds me of the hand of a clock. Same counterclockwise rotation when Brenner dies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why in winter and why in 1976
There are many references to ice, feeling cold, frozen. The snow, connected to Hopper and El.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
El saying that she comes from a bad place, and the boys saying that it's Sweden, a cold sub-zero place. Imo, the frozen lake, the reason she ended up in the other bad place, the lab.
Tumblr media
The song California dreamin' playing the day before Will's birthday
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the last line in S4: 'It's snowing' while Max is in the hospital and Lucas and Erica, brother and sister, are with her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are also many hints that something bad happened in 1976.
S1: The reporter says that the authorities suspect that Will was victim of foul play and that seven years before ('76) another person drowned in the quarry (*) S2: Lucas tells Max that a very decomposed body was found there. The truth hidden in a fake story
Tumblr media
Castle Byers flashback. Will doesn't get too scared anymore. Joyce jokes about her witch and he says that he's not five anymore ('76). Joyce's witch could be a reference to the Witch of the West. In S1 Hopper calls the lab Emerald City. Also, in Castle Byers there are a rainbow, a stuffed lion and a microscope -> connection to the lab.
Tumblr media
Possible hint at Lonnie's involvement in the "accident" (I'll talk about the trunk in Part II) When Jon was nine/ten he made him kill a rabbit, an animal associated with El and Alice/Henry. Jon was born in 1967, so the rabbit (El?) died in '76. I also think it's not a coincidence that it's Jon, a boy worried about his brother, who sees Barb disappear in a pool. Jon says he cried for a week. He mourned that little rabbit...
Also. When he tells Nancy about the rabbit, he says that he's a fan of Thumper. And in the Nancy and Steve dialogue about crawling backwards, Steve says that what he needed was a thump on his head, to finally start crawl forward
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First day of kindergarten ('76) Will was swinging by himself. Swing sets are associated with both Willel and the Creels, and one of the swings is always broken or missing. If I'm right, this is brilliant: this beautiful Byler moment could also be a hint that Will shouldn't have been alone that day. His sister should've been swinging with him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The lifeguard at the pool: 'No one in the water until 30 minutes after the last strike. You wanna get electrocuted, go climb a tree'. A very specific line and another possible hint that someone ended up in the water (a lake) and that powers (the strike) saved them. Behind him a poster with the date '76 and the word Happy Birthday.
Tumblr media
In 4x01, El says that they're all time travellers and that it feels like it's been ten years since she saw Mike. 1986-10 = 1976.
Tumblr media
There's also the poster of the Salizburger Festpiele of 1976- Der Talisman. We see it as Murray and Joyce are talking about Russia and Murray is preparing his ice bath (and he was the one who thought El was a russian spy, so this is about her). Once again, connection between cold and 1976. Plus, The Talisman. Lucas read Stephen King's novel, The Talisman, a story about parallel worlds and Twinners.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
EDIT 2/3/24: Ross posted a photo of A Wrinkle in Time. The book was published in 1962, but this is the cover of the 1976 paperback edition (here)
(*) In the quarry scene there's also a cool parallel with Fringe, one of my favorite shows. Mike wears the same shirt Peter wears in episode 3x15, Subject 13 (my post about Number 13 and Polivia-Byler parallel)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In that episode, Peter almost drowns in the same frozen lake where Walter opened a portal to the other universe.
Tumblr media
And it is revealed that Olivia can travel to the other universe when she's scared. The trigger? Her violent stepfather (looking at you, Lonnie) Why would he hurt the kids? Jealousy, money, or both. A possible parallel with Billy's father, who was jealous of his wife and in Billy's memory asks her: Did you see him again?

Mothergate: Alice Creel is B*lly Hargrove’s Mother
Forewarning that I hate Billy, but Murray Bauman said to follow the rabbit hole no matter where it leads, and who am I to doubt him? 🕳🐇
Tumblr media
Let’s just get the big thing out of the way first:
Alice Creel died! …Right?
But that leaves a lot unexplained, including when Nancy asks Victor, “Who played the music?” Victor never gives us a straight answer. Which I think gives us a lot of room to speculate that Alice was fighting Henry and changing the music. Let’s also note that Alice’s phrase was, “It’s like a dream,” and the song that saves Victor is “Dream a Little Dream.” This seems like a subtle clue from the writers.
So what happened?
I think that Alice “betrayed” Henry, like El, and refused to join him in his quest for power which included killing their parents. This is the memory that makes him “angry and a little sad.” He uses it to harness his power. If this is the case, Alice’s eyes were bleeding, not because she was dead, but because she exhausted herself fighting Henry. We also see El’s eyes in the same state when she fights Henry. To me, it seems she somehow managed to fake her death:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s also some strange inconsistencies reported about her death:
Tumblr media
There’s no way Alice was meant to be older than our main characters, and at least 3 years older than Henry. They show her running around on a playground, and overall acting and dressing like a little kid. And not in a struggling to mature way—just genuinely a child. What that means about her fake death, I’m not exactly sure, but something’s definitely off. (Sidenote, but it’s also weird that there’s issues with both Will and Alice’s 15th birthday, right?)
Anyway, let’s take a look at the description of Billy’s Mother:
Tumblr media
In terms of the other main theory that Karen is Henry’s sister, Billy’s mother’s physical description more closely resembles Alice. Alice has blue eyes and blonde hair. Karen’s hair is a mousy brown in the first season and her eyes are brown. Alice wears a hat with a blue ribbon when we first meet her.
The red flowers are such an interesting touch considering the Creel’s iconic door:
Tumblr media
Another subtle clue might be that one of the only things we know about her is that she has a friend named Wendy. Wendy—another classic fairytale name. What a strange thing for them to tell us, when we don’t even know her name.
The biggest, and my favorite clue happens throughout all of Season Four:
Tumblr media
Surfer Boy.
This is so on the nose it hurts. (I hope you read that in Will’s voice. You were meant to.) Billy was literally a Surfer Boy in California, and we see this first hand in the memory of his mother. Why call back to this for no reason?
In Season Four, Max is being tormented by visions of Billy shown to her by Vecna, the Cali Crew is in a Surfer Boy Van, and Nancy is piecing together a puzzle about a “grandpa murderer” and a red rose door that she’s seen before. It all adds up as the perfect reference to this specific scene.
Besides the references to the actual scene itself, there’s a big clue that we see in Season Two when Max is introduced, and again this Season with Eddie—the Micheal Myers’ mask. In the Halloween Movies, Micheal Myers is suffering from “the Curse of Thorn” (another reference to roses). In order to break the curse, he must kill everyone in his bloodline, and the one he really struggles to kill is his sister. (Parallels Henry trying to kill his whole family, but failing because of his sister.)
Tumblr media
Lots of references to 20 in Season Four and, in H20, Micheal Myers has a sister that fakes her death and relocates to California! Go figure!
That also addresses the biggest issue with the Karen as Alice theory. It would make no sense for Karen Wheeler to stay in Hawkins, because she’d be at risk of Brenner taking her too if she was Alice Creel. How the Hargrove/Mayfield family ended up back in Hawkins sans Billy’s runaway mother is anyone’s guess, but there’s too many coincidences…and it could explain why Billy and Max were such strong targets.
And let’s not forget that the episode where we first see the memory of Billy’s mother is called “E Pluribus Unum" or “Out of many, one.” A direct nod to Henry’s secret identity in the title of the very episode that we meet a random woman who’s sheer memory is enough to bring down the Mind Flayer? That’s Alice Creel, babygirl.

he liked to torture her and found satisfaction in it that's why he continues with his victims before killing them he plays with them making them break because that's the only thing that makes him feel good since that day he killed his family
Tumblr media
“Nothing has been as satisfying before or since.”
Also interesting that Alice's body is up the stairs in this game when we know Karen has been associated with the stairs too so many times and there are so many parallels with Henry and Mike!!! I think this could all be metaphorical because they have the same fears

Why The Hell are There Demogorgon Noises Playing When Victor Talks About Virginia’s Death?
So, as per the title, I noticed something today- there’s this weird as fuck snarling and growling animal noises that play alongside Alice’s scream when Victor talks about Virginia’s death- in fact, they sound JUST like Demogorgon noises- listen to this clip:
And this becomes extra interesting we we consider a.) this post that I made about how we don’t know what Alice was looking at in this scene & how she wasn’t looking at Virginia :
Tumblr media
and b.) the fact that the Creel house is all messed up and destroyed, with random things shattered and furniture overturned- almost like the Byers house in S1 after the Demogorgon ravaged it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Plus the overturned chairs in the Creel dining room- something knocked those over)
What on earth is that about???
And we have the scene of the Creel radio messing around and Victor going to investigate it and all of the constant Joyce-Victor parallels vs Joyce hearing Will’s radio messing around and investigating it and then seeing the Demogorgon come out of the wall after the lights start flickering:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even the lamps are super similar in Victor and Joyce’s scenes, with them both being tallish lamps with white lampshades:
Tumblr media
And even more interesting is the fact that in the Indianapolis Gazette/Edward timeline paper, it’s described being a grisly murder scene, and specifically, Mother Alice alice’s dead body is compared to the corpse of a dead deer.
Tumblr media
But wait- what other dead deer have we seen?
Oh yeah, the one that the Demogorgon attacked:
Tumblr media
And you might be thinking “oh, but Em, we saw Virginia fly into the air like a Vecna attack- how on earth could this be connected to the Demgorgon?”
Well, y’know who else flew into the air in a scene involving a Demogorgon?
This guy:
Tumblr media
And we hear very loud and distinct Demogorgon noises during his death- the same sort of noises we hear when Victor recounts Virginia’s death.
And also, all of Victor’s talk of demons- fun fact, the Demogorgon in DND is a demon- a demon lord, one of The demons of all time in DND, literally the prince of demons, an ancient demon, just like how Victor talks about an ancient demon in his interview with the Weekly Watcher.
Tumblr media
What the fuck happened here. What is going on????

I keep thinking about Alice. It's obvious that she isn't 15 in the flashbacks. Liv Birch is two years younger than Raphael Luce. Noah was younger than his co-stars for a reason. So I have thoughts about this choice, many thoughts.
(love the first pic, lol)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It seems that they're actually the same age. Hmm, so many thoughts...
Also, do 15 year old girls still play with dolls? Do they still go down slides? I don't know, maybe in the 50s it was different? But it feels weird to me

Okok my mans Brenner has a flair for the dramatic but like. For him to be talking like this, not only does he have to have seen Henry kill, he’d have had to study him in the aftermath. Now. We already know Henry murdered his mom (tho there’s some sus af stuff regarding Alice Creel & her “death” that leaves that one up in the air), & most likely wanted to kill his dad & sis, too. But for brenner to be saying this stuff about abilities, memories—less memories, more ABILITIES.
Because Henry could’ve gotten Virginia’s memories. Virginia knew Brenner—it would be easy enough for Brenner to catch on to Henry knowing things ab Virginia & Brenner’s convos that he shouldn’t. But ABILITIES. What abilities could Henry have gained from his mom that Brenner would be talking about? Was Henry abruptly really good at styling his hair like a 50s housewife? (Not likely—unless the shaving-childrens’-heads-trend didn’t catch on ‘til later). Maybe Virginia was a really good juggler?
I have a point, I swear, stay with me. Obviously Brenner COULD’VE been talking about Virginia. But it seems more likely that Henry killed someone else during his time at the lab—BEFORE the Hawkins massacre. Remember the soteria? We know that, immeditaly after killing his family, Henry was weak. His powers were weak. A lot like El after she banished Henry—using excess power, an abrupt drop in power, power needs to be built up… except El lost her memories, while Henry didn’t, and memories are important for channeling power.
Brenner has seen the cycle of regaining power before—it’s probably why he was so confidant he could restore el’s powers by restoring her memories, if he knew memories triggered power (from Henry). Because it was Henry (as 001) remembering something that made him sad, and angry, that allowed him to channel his power. (I need to rewatch some scenes to construct a timeline, because I think there’s a possibility Henry was referring to discovering his powers BEFORE the lab, though a slim one, when he was talking to young El & suggesting she use the memory of her mother being dragged away to channel her power. I don’t think that’s the case, but I wanna rule that possibility out).
We also know that something made it so that Henry was too dangerous to be allowed his power—he had to be given soteria. There’s an argument to be made for Henry being made to kill people by Brenner, used as an assassin the way Sullivan said Brenner wanted to use El (“remote assassination”), but that as Henry murdered those people he gained skills (fighting skills) & intel (from their memories).
But what if it wasn’t a regular person’s regular skills? What if it was someone with powers? Basically—the Hawkins Massacre not being the first time Henry absorbed someone’s powers. & that being the trigger for Henry being given soteria.
(At first I misremembered this scene as Brenner saying he absorbs their POWERS, and I got REALLY excited, but the point still stands. That’s why you gotta rewatch scenes & cite your sources, kids!)
There could be something interesting related to Alice Creel in this—the other sibling being “sensitive” and having powers like her brother (perhaps on a smaller scale, like 002), maybe she survives her brother’s first murder attempt but not the second—
(Seriously check out posts on why alice’s death is so sus idk how to link posts but like. Holy shit).
I imagine this power working like this: the brain is basically a bunch of electrical impulses, kind of? Like, that’s how we store memories, skills, etc. So Henry mimicke those impulses, those electrical patterns, in his own brain, and can interfere with other peoples’ electrical impulses—hence how he messed with Will’s memories, “stole” El’s powers at the end of season 3 (and perhaps even her powers and memories way back after the massacre when she was like 8, and perhaps messed with WILL’S powers in season 1/2, but i’m not sold on that yet). Brenner had it right when he said it was similar to the effects of a stroke—just a targeted, controlled, Henry-induced kind. The connections are all still there.
Then again, Henry’s abrupt loss of power after overextending himself does mirror el’s when she was a child, so perhaps he didn’t mess with her powers then. But it feels likely that he did in season 3… that it wasn’t just because of exhaustion/overextension, it was because of the parasite in her leg. Idk. We’ll see ig, i’m attached to this interpretation atm tho.
Ig im tagging @aemiron-main @wibble-wobbegong @givehimthemedicine & @bottomlessabyssposts bc i enjoy harassing u guys lol. Feel free to share ur thoughts if you want, or not if you don’t! Hope y’all tumblr ppl are having a lovely day, & congrats for getting to the end of this rather long post!
