People be worshipping Terry Matalas for saying "sPiRk rIgHtS" on some random subreddit when he all but killed the canon sapphic ship onscreen that he was actually in charge of writing 馃拃

Should we keep quiet about things we hate in fandom?
So, I recently saw this tweet from Star Trek: Picard season 2 and 3 showrunner Terry Matalas, and it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Matalas posted a two part meme of a woman sitting in what looked like a pew talking to someone off screen in two screencaps. The caption of the first screencap read: "You think it's okay to hate things. It's not. It's boring." The caption of the second screencap, focused on the woman's face, read: "Talk about what you love, and keep quiet about what you don't." In a tweet made an hour later, Mr. Matalas posted, "What's funny is, I didn't even post this in regards to Trek. But wow, do the responses show that I should have." [photo below, not described since description is above.]

The irony here is that Mr. Matalas himself is so thin skinned that between seasons 2 and 3 of Star Trek Picard, he blocked people who were curious to know what was going to happen to the existing cast. We fought for something we loved and were largely ignored when the characters we loved were written out. This screenshot had to be taken from my main Twitter, because he has my fandom twitter blocked.
While I think fandom should definitely be diplomatic about it as much as possible, I fully disagree with Mr. Matalas' statement here. Being diplomatic about not liking something means you can recognize both sides. Fandom typically doesn't (nor should it ever have to) "keep quiet about what you don't [love]." I also think it shows how thin-skinned and also narrow-minded he is with his vision for Trek. Now, maybe I interpreted him wrong-- but takes like this are just . . . mind blowing to me. I'm all for letting people like what they like, but this is another level

I delayed watching the last 4 eps of Picard S3 to get them all over with at once. So I've just watched S7 and my disgust is late to the party. But if a show that features Picard and Crusher deciding to execute a prisoner, set to maudlin music, is somehow hailed as a return to RealTrek, then I must have been watching a different franchise these last 35 fucking years.

Can't wait to fast forward 10 years where the fandom remembers Matalas for who he is- the Rick Berman of this era

At the end of the day, I am just a straight cis girl, so take my words with a pinch of salt but everything I have learned of Season 3 Saffi so far makes it sound like the most homophobic sapphic ship in existence 馃拃
Like, why is Seven and Raffi's relationship still stuck in the "yeah, so we broke up" phase? Wasn't that the exact same arc of their relationship in the last season? Why are we treading the same path again? Like, I do understand on-again-off-again relationships and see their potential but this.... doesn't sound like that. This sounds more like "off again for 95% of any given season, on again at the literal last minute when the writers remember about us." Why couldn't this season have shown their relationship in a new phase? How are viewers supposed to care about a relationship if they are never seen together in the first place? Why are we supposed to be the ones to fill in the gaps instead of the writers? I have literally read fanfics with better chemistry between these two when the authors had nothing but a single scene of dialogue exchange and some (mission important) consensual hand tying to go with. And then these writers, at the end of the day, will pat themselves on the back for doing the bare minimum in "representation"

Guys, I haven't watched S3 yet and I am just picking up on vibes, so please tell me I am wrong.
But...did they shunt my precious boy Rios only to give his role of (asshole with a heart of gold) to some white dude?(Liam Shaw?)

I am glad the 1948484939th final-this-time-for-real TNG send-off is over. And this time at the cost of firing the original cast of a different show and completely hijacking the limelight from them! yay!

Is Terry Matalas a desi dad? Because the obsession with a biological male child is frankly creepy
