Hey 👋
Favourite fall out boy songs are..?
hi there! 👋🏻
there are so many! a few have a very special place in my heart:
the kids aren’t alright - this song is very meaningful to me and is one of my two favorite songs of all time (train’s “drops of jupiter” is the other ❤︎)
just one yesterday - the first song that made me love the band! i hold it near and dear, and no matter how many times i listen to it, it will never gets old.
headfirst slide into cooperstown on a bad bet - first time i heard this i felt like the ending would be phenomenal live, it’s a song that needs to be played loud. so immensely grateful they brought it back and i was able to hear it live.
bishops knife trick - fob is good at picking the right closing track, but this one (and srar) just makes so much sense and i can’t imagine it anywhere else in the track list. truly saved the best for last.
save rock and roll - cried when i heard this live. like i said about bkt, it closes the album so well and sets the tone for everything that was, has, and will come to and from the band.
tiffany blews - again, another song that must be played at full volume (but that truly the nature of folie, it’s a loud album).
miss missing you - another srar track that pairs with joy in terms of peaking my interest in them.
jet pack blues - just so so so good. never forget the tag on one of my posts where someone said they routinely skip it. they are absolutely missing out on such a good track.
pavlove - what do you say about such a banger of a song!! it speaks for itself.
alone together and young volcanoes - they go together because they are the same song. they are a bonded pair of kittens and they bring me so much joy.
heaven’s gate - thee prettiest of fall out boy songs and i stand by that.
i’ve got all this ring in my ears and none on my fingers - infinity on high’s lyrics don’t resonate with me like later albums, but patrick’s vocal work is truly phenomenal on this album - and so much so this song. (the song titles also make me forget which are my favorites oop)
you’re crashing, but you’re no wave - i love this song, and specifically the chorus, but i also love the title because i refuse to believe it’s about anything other than technology. (macos specifically. it’s a running joke i have with myself and my computer who receives daily death threats)
sophomore slump or comeback of the year - i know they won’t do it, but i would love to if they did an updated version since they have grown so much in talent and as people.
is it fair to just say all of save rock and roll and folie à deux? both of those are no skip albums, and i’ve been mad obsessed with srar so much here lately. it just keeps taking me back in time to 2013/14 when life was simpler.

Happy birthday, Save Rock and Roll!!! ❤️
in celebration, here is my awful take of a ranking! (I know I will probably get flamed for this :,))
Where Did the Party Go
2. Rat a Tat
3. Death Valley
4. Miss Missing You
5. Save Rock and Roll
6. The Phoenix
7. Just One Yesterday
8. The Mighty Fall
9. Alone Together
10. Young Volcanoes
11. My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark
BTW I LOVE ALL OF THESE SONGS AND THEY’RE SO SO GOOD AND I WISH I COULD PUT THEM ALL AT 1- also, this list changes drastically all the time but the only one I’m SUPER firm about is Where Did the Party Go.
SRAR is my third or fourth favorite album. It was when I started listening to Fall Out Boy so i hold it very dear to my heart. Thank you random Pewdiecry Septiplier speedpaint video 😭 (one of the songs in the background was Young Volcanoes and that got me listening to them)

OTHER:
City in a Garden off of Lake Effect Kid
ok to start those are all great songs. Thnks fr th Mmrs is one of my personal faves cause i grew up listening to that song. however did you know that song has a lead in song? fall out boy has many segue songs; a song whos end flows seamlessly into the beginning of the next. Golden, the song before TFTM is gorgeous and i loooove listening to it, especially since the transition to thnks is so dramatic sounding. Last of the Real Ones is also a big ol song for me. it is, admittedly, on several of my character playlists. now im gonna go by album. ill admit right here i dont listen to take this to your grave very often so. its. not gonna be on here. off of from under the cork tree. theres a lot of good songs but the two i come back to are another segue pair, Get Busy (im not writing the whole title its their longest one) and XO. i love the transition, but both of those songs are absolutely wonderful as standalones.
infinity on high is where things start ramping up in terms of songs i like off of it. ignoring the popular ones because i also like those, and golden that i already talked about. I'm Like a Lawyer is such a nice sounding song I like it a lot. The lyrics are really good (as usual, i will gush about fob lyrics), and the music is very upbeat and fun, the contrast between the lyrics and the music should be stark but they go well together. The (After) Life of the Party is another absolutely gorgeous song holy shiiiit. i love that song so much it sounds gorgeous. fun to belt, fun to listen to, 10/10. Bang the Doldrums is one of the songs i listen to most frequently, and like a lot of fob songs, especially on IOH and FAD, it has a little section right before the ending chorus that has lyrics thatll kill you. Fame>Infamy is such a fun song to listen to, but i have to say the switch from minor to major in the middle blows me away every time. its so gorgeous. Crashing is fantastic but the subject matter is so heavy i have to be like. prepared to listen to it. love it to bits.
Folie a Deux is hard because thats. like my first or second favorite album. but this album FUCKS HARD. a lot of the songs on here have orchestral parts to it that makes them absolutely gorgeous. The first song, Disloyal Order of Water Buffalo, is gorgeous, big, loud, and dramatic and i love it. Headfirst Slide is also great and i love it and i wish i had his range holy cow. (Shipped) Gold Standard is great and i love trying to sing that little genre change at the part before the last chorus its so fun. [Coffee's for Closers] is. wowie wow wow. This song is why i think people who didnt like folie were just upset that it didnt sound like their perfect little emo songs because holy shit this song slaps. This song perfectly combines fall out boys version of emo with orchestral music. its honestly a fucking tragedy more people dont listen to it. What a Catch is so great, i just cant listen to it all the time because its so sad. which is understandable given the songs context. however, it does make for a funny little "hey is that [insert another famous musician that hangs with fall out boy a lot]" moment. W.A.M.S. is one of my all time faves and is one of the reasons Im learning bass guitar! still cant play that! fuck you pete your bass lines fuck severely but are so complicated for me to play! I also love West Coast Smoker. high energy belt/scream song. also not on the album proper but on the delux edition, love me Pavlove!
Save Rock and Roll has so many bangers, but did you know theres a music video for every song on this album and all the music videos tell a story? its really cool. again, skipping the popular ones. Alone Together is such a pretty song. that song sounds so good. Where Did the Party Go is so fun. I love their fun songs theyre fun to dance around to. Now, if I had to choose ONE FOB song as my all time fave? Miss Missing You. Holy fucking shit that songs so fucking good. The lyrics in that song are just one punch after the other and its so. AAAA. Save Rock And Roll (thr song) is also fantastic. Elton John hello sir. ABAP has a couple good songs. I recently used Irresistable for an OC piece i did. Jet Pack Blues is also a pretty sounding song and is nice to listen to for more of a chiller vibe than some of their other music. Favorite Record my beloved I love that song its so nice and upbeat and love filled.
Mania my beloved. My good time boy. My rotten soldier. genuinely dont think theres a song on this album I don't like. Stay frosty will always be there for me when I feel like throwing hands. that song slaps. hold me tight is a funky little jam. fun song. Expensive mistakes? my song. i love that song. pete was after my own heart making that song. Church is such a fuckin devotion song. Church and Last of the Real Ones are songs that feel like you sing them to someone youd give your life for. i also use those on charcter playlists. Heavens Gate is my FAVORITE love song. of all time. Sunshine Riptide is such a good song and is so fun to listen to.
not on any of their main studio albums, but City in a Garden is so good. so lovely so full of emotion.

Trish!!! hello, my love!! truly two of the greats, I love those albums with my whole heart :') also, this post is looooooog so I'm slapping the 'read more' option on there
SRAR:
The Phoenix - Bring home the boys and scrap scrap metal the tanks Get hitched, make a career out of robbing banks Because the world is just a teller and we are wearing black masks "You broke our spirit, " says the note we pass
My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark - Be careful making wishes in the dark Can't be sure when they've hit their mark And besides in the meantime I'm just dreaming of tearing you apart OR My childhood spat back the monster that you see
Alone Together - I don't know where I'm going, But I don't think I'm coming home And I said, I'll check in tomorrow if I don't wake up dead This is the road to ruin and we're starting at the end
Where Did The Party Go -I'm here to collect your hearts, It's the only reason that I sing I don't believe a word you say, But I can't stop listening
Just One Yesterday - Oh, I want to teach you a lesson in the worst kind of way, Still I'd trade all my tomorrows for just one yesterday
The Mighty Fall - Your crooked love is just a pyramid scheme And I'm dizzy on dreams But if you ask me two's a whole lot lonelier than one Baby, we should have left our love in the gutter where we found it
Miss Missing You - Sometimes before it gets better The darkness gets bigger The person that you'd take a bullet for is behind the trigger Oh, we're fading fast (but also "baby, you were my picket fence" makes me feel lots of emotions)
Death Valley - I'm either gone in an instant Or here 'til the bitter end
Young Volcanos - C'mon, make it easy, say I never mattered Run it up the flagpoles
Rat A Tat - Are you ready for another bad poem? One more off-key anthem, Let your teeth sink in Remember me as I was not as I am
Save Rock And Roll - Well, how'd it get to be only me? Like I'm the last damn kid still kicking that still believes
AB/AP:
Irresistible - You're second hand smoke You're second hand smoke I breath you in, but honey I don't know What you're doing to me
American Beauty/American Psycho - I think I fell in love again Maybe I just took too much cough medicine I'm the best worst thing that hasn't happened to you yet The best worst thing
Centuries - Mummified my teenage dreams No, it's nothing wrong with me The kids are all wrong The stories are off Heavy metal broke my heart
The Kids Aren't Alright (ONE OF MY FAVE SONGS OF ALL TIME AHHH) - And I still feel that rush in my veins It twists my head just a bit to think All the people in those old photographs I've seen are dead
Uma Thurman - I slept in last night's clothes and tomorrow's dreams But they're not quite what they seem
Jet Pack Blues - She's in a long black coat tonight Waiting for me in the downpour outside She's singing "Baby come home" in a melody of tears While the rhythm of the rain keeps time
Novocaine - If you knew, knew what the bluebirds sing at you, you would never sing along Cast them out 'cause this is our culture These new flocks are nothing but vultures
Fourth Of July - I'll be as honest as you let me I miss your early morning company, If you get me You are my favorite "what if" You are my best "I'll never know" OR Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean any of it I just got too lonely, lonely, whoa In between being young and being right, You were my Versailles at night
Favorite Record - Play it again and again and again And you can get what you want but it's never enough
Immortals - Sometimes the only payoff for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again every day
Twin Skeletons (Hotel In NYC) - I just need enough of you to dull the pain Just to get me through the night 'til we're twins again 'Til we're stripped down to our skeletons again 'Til we're saints just swimming in our sins again OR A birth and a death on the same day And honey I only appeared so I can fade away I wanna throw my hands in the air and scream And I could just die laughing on your spiral of shame

short, fast, and loud & moving pictures & homesick at space camp & champagne for my real friends, real pain for my sham friends & she’s my winona & the mighty fall & jet pack blues
ty ty friend
short, fast, and loud: if you had to spend the rest of your life with only three other people, who would they be? why?
yikes i don’t know if i could spend the rest of my life with the same people. I would actually prefer to be alone i think. if i have wifi i can talk to all of you without getting sick of you so does “all of my tumblr friends collectively” count?
moving pictures: what’s your favorite art form?
I can’t art like at all so to do ig makeup, but to appreciate its definitely pottery/ceramics! i took a class on it and it’s just so much fun, but also i love that it’s an art form you can hold and touch and add cool textures to!
homesick at space camp: what do you blast when you’re angry?
I listen to Drown by BMTH and I slept with someone in fall out boy.. in my car and scream all the words as hard as I can
champagne for my real friends, real pain for my sham friends: how did you meet your best friend?
We used to do gymnastics together! We ended up getting super close and she actually the only person I used to train with that I still talk to! Quick brag bc i love her, she got a full ride scholarship to college for this fall!! she’s so great
she’s my winona: which celebrity do you look up to most?
oof this is so hard. I’ve really been liking what matty healy’s been doing recently. he’s really starting to take care of himself and he looks so happy lately. I thik that’s admirable. I also look up to maxx a lot just bc he’s so sweet and caring and i really just want to be one of those adults that don’t get mean and bitter
the mighty fall: which was your favorite young blood chronicles video?
My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark and Where Did the Party Go
jet pack blues: which was your favorite fall out boy era?
music wise it’s infinity on high, but I feel like even though I wasn’t really a fan during it, the SRAR era was just so epic and the boys looked really happy

3. Hold Me Tight Or Don’t
THEORY CONFIRMED: M A N   I    A IS A PETERICK RETROSPECTIVE
part 3 of shark-myth’s mania meta series
(See other posts about the singles from Mania here and here, and here and here)
Following the idea that the singles are time-stamped for certain eras of FOB, I think that sonically and based on other cues Hold Me Tight Or Don’t fits squarely in the modern era. More detail on why and lots of crunchy lyrics meta below the cut!
I never really feel a thing I'm just kinda too frozen You were the only one That even kinda came close I just pinch myself No longer comatose I woke up, no luck I woke up, no luck
Pinching himself, waking up—dreams are all over this album, dreams have been an important metaphor for the whole history of this band, I need to do some serious and intentional digging into this theme!
The verse links itself to Y&M, waking up on the wrong side of reality, and to Centuries, with the reference to being/feeling frozen. ‘I never really feel a thing’ has an obvious link to the themes in the song Novocaine, which was originally written for SRAR. It holds the iconic lines ‘this is our culture’ and ‘in the truly gruesome do we trust, I will always land on you like a sucker punch’ which both inspired merch for the AB/AP tour cycle. We know Pete liked this song enough to try to fit it on another album after it was cut from SRAR; we can guess it is a song that is important to him. Novocaine reflects the angrier half of the emotions expressed in Hold Me Tight—it’s the punch, it’s the result of all that distance sharpening Pete like a knife. This is a softer and more interactive, conversational expression of that theme: it’s saying, meet me in the middle. Hold me tight or don’t. (But if you don’t, I won’t be your favorite what-if—I will be your worst nightmare.)
And when your stitch comes loose I wanna sleep on every piece of fuzz And stuffing that comes out of you, you
I took too many hits off this memory
I need to come down
Okay, is this evoking MAD Winnie the Pooh vibes for anyone else? No? Just me? Okay then.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about stitches coming loose: Snitches and Talkers Get Stitches and Walkers, The Music or the Misery’s ‘I got my stitches stitched, I got my fixes fixed,’ The After Life of the Party’s ‘I’m a stitch away from making it, a scar away from falling apart.’ This is an image he’s been playing with for a long time. Do you think, here, it indicates waiting for someone else’s resolve to break? Pete’s written about himself falling apart for years, but now he’s eagerly waiting for someone else to crumble, unravel, spill out. Someone like PATRICK MAYBE???
The other really significant thing here is the drug use metaphor. As I detailed excessively in my Peterick Primer powerpoint¸ Pete has a history of characterizing his own feelings for Patrick with the desperation of drug use. So in this song, ‘I got high again’ and ‘I took too many hits off this memory’ to me references trysting—when the two of them would have illicit sexual interludes, #trysttheory #forlife, and also his recursive, self-consuming obsession with rehashing those memories and not letting them go. This pulls up Boycott Love (detox just to retox) so strongly. It also pings on content like ‘a bad trip I couldn’t get off,’ ‘when I said I’d return to you I meant more like a relapse,’ ‘I want it so bad, I’d shoot the sunshine into my veins,’ ‘doing lines of dust and sweat off of last night’s stage just to feel like you,’ ‘I’ll be your favorite drug, I will get you high’ and my all-time favorite, that sweet sweet overlap between the drug metaphor and the Novocaine metaphor: ‘I just need enough to you to dull the pain.’
Hold Me Tightly or Don’t fits squarely in the drug use/love metaphor Pete’s so fond of.
 Another day goes by
So hold me tight
Hold me tight, or don’t
Oh no, this isn’t how our story ends
So hold me tight
Or don’t
Just a brief note that Pete wrote ‘this isn’t how our story ends’ on his Gucci hoodie in fucking sharpie because he is the prince of trash and I love him. I got too high again Realized I can't not be with you Or be just your friend I love you to death But I just can't, I just can't pretend We weren't lovers first
Confidants but never friends
Were we ever friends?
The most immediate reaction I have to this verse is its contrast with Bang The Doldrums, which imo is a song about the Summer of Like with Mikey Way. Here, it seems clear he’s singing to a different person, just because he’s asking questions that he already answered about the other person in, like, 2007. ‘We weren’t lovers first; confidants but never friends; were we ever friends?’ He is plagued by the same definitonal/territorial issues he always has, in relationships. Pete Wentz is a liminal creature and he craves more than anything classification—but when he gets things hard, fast, labeled, he almost always loses them. He almost always lets them slip through the cracks.
Also worth noting: when he’s too high on Patrick he realizes it’s absolutely insane to try to act like he can just be Patrick’s friend and not want all of him, not always be at least a little heartbroken that he can’t have it. I RELATE TO THIS SO HARD.
Finally, the word pretend. See the Black Cards song End of Pretend for extra suffering, and of course Alone Together—‘let’s go back and play pretend’—and Wilson (Expensive Mistakes)—‘I miss the day when I pretend with you.’ SOBBING
'Cause I'm past the limits
The distance between us
It sharpens me like a knife Past the limits The distance between us It sharpens me like a knife The distance reminds me so much of the content in The Last of the Real Ones. This is it, this is the Real True stuff here. If anyone has that Mr. Crocker reaction image on hand you can toss it at me now, because that’s me, that’s my life, tryst theory tryst theory tryst theory.
I could go on about the song forever and maybe I’ll have more to say after I’ve heard it a few more times! I’ll leave you with some parting thoughts on the video:
can we just talk about how much FUN everyone is having? And Patrick. Why. Why does he look like that. Why is he so fucking beautiful. I’m sweating.
Seriously, Patrick, S T O P
SMILEY JOE
SMILEY PETE
SMILEY ANDY
Did the grey washed-out doom skull turn to a gold skull through the course of the video? Because if that’s not a metaphor of Pete’s experience of loving Patrick what is
Did the skeleton’s suit remind anyone else of DOB-era Brendon Urie
boy I hope they worked with some actual people from mexico on this and it’s not the uncomfortable video equivalent of a white girl’s sugar skull halloween costume
Check out my lyrics meta tag for more screaming! See you guys with new material soon.

i’ve been listening to save rock and roll a lot here lately, in its entirety for the first time in years. and… ugh. as much as i love folie and it’s my favorite fob album, srar is so incredibly special to me. i think back to life when i first heard it. i still had scamp and rooney, patches was still a baby, i was going to concerts, my friends and i were becoming individuals, we were becoming “adults.” i was entering a whole new chapter of my life, and this was the start of another defining piece of, me. i remember having “miss missing you” and “just one yesterday” specifically on repeat for half of an hour long car ride. tracks were part of the playlist my friends and i listened to on our first vacation together, alone. i remember sitting at a stoplight in somewhere, maryland on a cold december morning returning home from baltimore, still grieving the loss of scamp the month before, listening to “my songs know what you did in the dark” and briefly breaking away from my pain to think, “you know, they really are good.” srar was my first true introduction to fall out boy (though not patrick stump, as i mainly knew him through features and some of his solo work), and how back then i had no idea they would rank alongside my long time, most beloved bands (train and matchbox twenty). listening to it in whole again - vs a few songs here and there, scattered about numerous playlists - is so bittersweet. i don’t want to lose what memories i have of 2013/2014 listening to it, but also, want to experience that love all over again.
