Fem!Cosplayer!Reader x Pm!Dazai Osamu
- I live with random inspirational drabbles that won't take me nowhere.
Tumblr media
Your cosplay is perfect.
The tie is tied tightly, the black coat on your shoulders secure, the bandages around your arms are tighten not to unravel, the ones in your neck loose not to hurt but at the same time secure not to collapse with every breath you take. The one in your face itches way less than you thought.
You are ready.
Near your home, in a little park very pretty and kept clean, your group of friends organises every saturday a "themed party", in which any cosplayer can join to have fun with others, make new friends with the same interests and generally spend a good time socialising. Today is one of those days, and you choose to cosplay someone you never did before; Dazai Osamu in his port mafia era.
Last time you went you cosplayed Tsukasa Yugi, and you want to make an easier cosplay this time (and also because you are madly in love with the former executive).
As expected, when you put feet there, you find other cosplayers with the same character as yours; some cosplaying Dazai from his present days, others mafia and one you met also had a red scarf around his neck, bandages on the other side of his face, which means Beast.
As you reach for your friend, the cosplay of one of the genshin impact characters sticking out, so colorful that it seems to just attract your gaze onto him, your feet reach the spot as a big smile frame your face.
"Oh, Yn! How are you doing? I'm glad you could come" he smiles politely as he takes a bite of the sandwich between his hands "Did you eat anything?" He asks then, before you could have any chance of answering.
"No, I will go now. Just wanted to stop by, you having fun?" You raise an eyebrow as you hit your friend on the elbow "You managed to cosplay who you wanted at the end? You won't bother me anymore now right?" His gaze totally tells you otherwise.
"...I'll just go eat something" your defeated toned makes him laugh as he begs you from behind your shoulders to forgive him.
As your hand grabs a sweet from the table, a hand tap your shoulder softly, almost not wanting to startle you. The touch makes you raise both eyebrow in curiosity as your head turns around to look.
First impression; a teen, just like you.
Second notice; bandages. Okay, must be cosplaying Dazai.
The teen is slender, very very thin, long fingers took behind their coat as their gaze flies sceptically on your form, brown, lifeless pupils engulfing you whole, as if they can grabs your cosplay and tear it apart; not to get you exposed and naked for some men impulses, just to want you out that outfit.
If this is a Dazai cosplay, it really is very authentic. You smirk "Woah, careful. Your cosplay is so real I could've mistaken you for the real Dazai Osamu there." you joke, keeping the sweet between your fingers, having the intention to wait for them to go away so that you can eat in peace.
Your words seems to make them beam, a sparkle that doesn't really come from their sincere soul appearing in their eyes. "Oh."
Simple.
Unimpressed.
Hollow.
Oh.
You blink at the unenthusiastic teen as they blinks and glances around in unease. Your limb flinch from the impulse to drag them out the party, since they don't seem to want to be here. If they didn't want to come, why did they bother so much to cosplay neatly?
"Do you.. want me to bring you out of here?" You doubtfully speak out, your hand placing on top of their shoulder, rough fabric rubbing under your fingers as you gently firm your grip.
Their head snaps towards you, a new light adorning their features before quickly dissipating itself as if it never existed. Their gaze is so empty, you can swear if Dazai Osamu ever were real, these eyes would be his.
After realising you asked them something, they carefully nods their head.
You stop with them in a more silent spot, maybe safer, before sitting down on the sidewalk, hearing their shuffling steps behind you before the figure appears, dragging itself down to sit on the spot next to yours.
"Are you okay?" You ask, tilting your head to the side.
This is not a good way to start a conversation, that's what your mind tells you.
"Yes, I am. I was bored. I heard a lot of music and laugher and happen to be curious" they answer, voice shallow, like a broken record playing itself in loop.
Your glance back at them "...so this is not a cosplay?" They blinks.
This time their vacant eyes rest on yours, so full of emotions, so different. "...yes, yes it is supposed to be." They don't seem too sincere, and now you don't really know what to think.
"...I mean, some bungo stray dogs outfits, if not all of them, can be used for the everyday living so I mean I get you if you casually decided to use them not to cosplay but in general. You just are one of the most proper cosplay of Dazai Osamu that I have ever seen. Way better than mine, my feminine face doesn't fit his features at all, I don't really have such a sharp jawline. Not that he has it that sharp but—" you stop yourself from talking, realising you are speaking with a stranger and not all of them are glad to hear you go too much talkative.
Their head turns to look at you after a few seconds, blinking eyes of a deer caught in the light as they tilt their head to the side with a frown "Why did you stop?" Such a simple question worked to ease the nerves on your stomach, even if it isn't strong enough to silence the voices in your head.
"Sometimes I tend to go overboard with talking, so I stop."
"Such a foolish thing to say. If we have a voice, better use it to the fullest, right?" They don't sound like they believes their own words.
This kid is giving you so much mixed signals it's making your head spin.
"...yeah. You are right" you softly smile as you glance back at the street, empty and free from any car passing. No one really take streets from this direction since there's nothing interesting in the zone where you live. It's not impossible but rare for cars to come this way.
They seem to be intentioned into asking you something, opening their mouth and closing it a couple of times before permanently keeping it shut, stuffing their chin on top of the knees, eyes dropping closed.
They look so tired.
You take a breath, imitating the position, one brown eye following your movement soundlessly. "...this feels peaceful" you mutter, a gentle smile grazing your lips. You don't drag your gaze towards theirs, who closed their eye after you stopped moving.
A phone start vibrating.
Once, twice, a grumble comes from the teen next to you they take out the device, placing it next to the ear; "Yes, boss?"
Boss?
Helplessly staring at the ground, the brunette often hums in understanding. "Got it. See you later. Byeee" shutting down the call they sighs dramatically, a note of their childish antics being shown for a fraction of second, before standing up looking like someone else rudely took them from their shoulders, forcing the motion.
"Looks like you gotta go" you smile, getting up as well as they turn their back to you. They don't talk. They don't even look at you. You just stands there, watching as their back disappears from the reach.
Realising they -or better he at this point- isn't a cosplayer will take you all the day, just as you are in your bed, stuffed between matress and blankets, you blink your eyes staring at the wall. The way your veins freeze, your breaths becoming uneven.
You hope with your whole being to never ever see him again.

Princess Daisy : pencils_and_pincushions // photo: that_fedora_photographer
I’m a Canadian cosplayer who has been cosplaying since 2007. I’ve had a love for Victorian fashion since I very young age (my little kid brain basically made the connection that Victorian dresses = women dressing like Disney princesses IRL), but the thing that kickstarted my desire to learn sewing was going to a fabric store with my mother when I was in my senior year of high school and seeing a Butterick pattern catalogue that had Victorian-inspired costumes. Almost instantly I had a lightbulb moment that if I learned to sew, I could actually wear those big fancy gowns I loved.
I entered university and, over the next few years, spent my free time reading and learning everything I could about sewing. In 2007, my best friend invited me to Anime North - she was going as a gothic lolita-inspired version of the Queen of Hearts, so I decided I would make a Mad Hatter to accompany her.
I was so excited that I jumped in completely head-first, and it ended up being my first foray into both sewing and pattern drafting. In hindsight it was wildly ambitious for a first project (and I’m still a little surprised that I actually pulled it off!), but I’m so glad that my enthusiasm made me persevere and psh through the challenges, because I learned a ton from that experience and ended up with a cosplay I was thrilled with.
I remember seeing myself in the mirror the first time and being so happy when I realized I’d been able to bring something to life from my imagination. When my friend and I got to the con, things only got better from there - the atmosphere was so energetic and colourful thanks to all the amazing cosplays, and it was filled with so many fun, enthusiastic, and friendly people. From that day I was officially hooked on cosplay.
Tumblr media
I’m part of the Toronto Steampunk Society and, each year at Fan Expo Canada, we hold an Annual Costume Challenge where we pick a theme and encourage people to make a costume based on the theme. A couple of years ago, the theme was ‘steampunk video game characters’ and one of my friends in the TSS, Modern Myths Cosplay, thought it would be cute to do Princess Peach and Princess Daisy.
I loved the idea and, after more discussion, we decided to do a steampunk twist on the Super Smash Bros Brawl version since it was fancier and seemed to lend itself well to a steampunk interpretation. Though Daisy isn’t officially in Brawl, my friend was fortunately able to dig up some fan edits of Peach in Daisy’s colours, so with that we were set.
I usually make my outfits myself, but since my friend and I wanted to ensure our cosplays matched, we decided to work collaboratively and divide things: I would create the bodices and accessories for both gowns, and she would create the skirts and crinolines.
I started off by drafting the base bodice patterns. Since I draft all my costumes, I used my existing bodice block/master patterns for myself and drafted a bodice block from scratch for my friend based on her measurements. One neat thing about working this way was that it basically turned into a girls’ weekend where I was able to teach my friend more about pattern drafting, which ended up making the process unexpectedly fun and memorable.
After I finished fitting my friend’s bodice block, I got to work drafting our bodice patterns based on the reference pics we had collected. Being able to tackle both bodices ended up working well since it enabled me to draft them in a way that made them visually match identical while taking our respective body shapes into account.
A couple of mockups and fittings later, we had an idea of how much fabric we needed, so we went fabric shopping. My friend suggested that we go with richer, more regal-looking tones instead of strictly game-accurate colours, so when we found a place selling gorgeous peau de soie and sparkle organza, I was instantly sold on a gold and burnt orange colour scheme.
Tumblr media
We split the fabric based on our respective portions and worked on them separately. I cut and sewed the bodices, which was fairly straight forward but time-consuming! The part that sticks in my mind the most was the center front panel because it had so many pieces and layers - two types of satin, two types of organza (including one that had to be ruched to the base panel in multiple places), five rows of lace, interfacing...and that doesn’t even include the lining!
I also created our jewelry and crowns. The brooches and earrings were made from filigree settings that I painted, glued gems, and attached pin backs and earring hooks to, and the crowns are made from craft foam painted in gold acrylic, with embellishments assembled from painted filigree stampings and gems.
My friend created our cage skirts from 1/4 PEX pipe and brown grosgrain ribbon, which ended up being the perfect hoop skirt material since it was cheap, lightweight, and strong enough to support the huge, heavy skirts. She cut and sewed our skirts (including attaching meters and meters of trim that I’d painted white to better match the game colours) and she also made our bloomers.
The gowns were a huge undertaking and, thanks to work and general real life eating up time, we did end up engaging in the dreaded con crunch, but fortunately in the end we were able to get them to a state where they were pretty and wearable!
Tumblr media
The response at the convention was absolutely amazing - I don’t think I’ve ever had a costume elicit the reactions that Princess Daisy did. We figured that, since we were cosplaying the princesses from Mario, there was a good chance we might be recognized, but the thing I wasn’t prepared for was how genuinely happy and excited people were, especially when they saw us together. We literally had kids waving at us from across the street when they spotted us.
Even grown-ups loved it - we were frequently stopped for pictures, and even a couple of the folks in the dealer’s room who were running booths would break into huge smiles and ask for pictures. Plus, people loved the steampunk twist and were delighted when they realized how much our costumes matched.
The best, most heartwarming response to my Princess Daisy cosplay happened when I met up with some other friends and one tapped me on the shoulder, pointed behind me and said, “I think she wants a picture with the princess.” I turned around and, standing a few feet away, was this adorable, super shy little black girl who was staring in my direction. My heart instantly melted and I went over to her and had a little chat and took a picture with her.
As a black cosplayer who has run several panels on BIPOC cosplay and spoken about the importance of diversity and representation in cosplay, being able to show that sweet little girl that someone who looks like her can be a princess - and showing kids of other races that Princess Daisy can be black - was a vivid reminder that representation does matter.
Tumblr media
Since I got into the hobby, cosplay has been a big part of my life and has positively impacted me in so many ways. It has been an incredible creative outlet that has given me the chance to express myself, and it has allowed me to meet so many wonderful people - many of whom are now among my closest friends. However, I think one of the most rewarding things about cosplay has been how it has allowed me to provide BIPOC cosplay representation and visibility within my local cosplay community. I often do Afro-steampunk cosplay, and one of the most unexpectedly moving things I’ve experienced has been other BIPOC saying to me that seeing my outfits make them feel like they can cosplay.
It has been humbling and has motivated me to get more involved in the cons I attend. For the past several years I’ve run panels on diversity in cosplay/steampunk as well as sewing and cosplay construction, which has enabled me to share the knowledge and skills I’ve learned. I also lead the steampunk section of the Anime North Fashion Show, and I’ve made a point to recruit as diverse a roster of models as possible. I’m happy that we’ve been able to showcase steampunk looks inspired by various cultures including Chinese, Indian, and Morrocan.
Another plus is that the sewing skills I’ve learned from cosplay have come in handy in other areas of my life. It has been fun - and surprisingly empowering - to be at a point where I can use my sewing ability to create one-of-a-kind outfits for formal work events (like office holiday parties) that make me feel pretty and confident.
Something I’ve frequently mentioned during my BIPOC cosplay/steampunk panels is that the simple act of showing up to a con or event in cosplay can have an impact because you never know how much that visibility can inspire other BIPOC to get into the hobby, so my advice to anyone wanting to get into cosplay is to do it! Overall I have found it to be a fun, creative, energizing experience.
While I’ve been extremely fortunate to have had overwhelmingly positive experiences while cosplaying, I recognize that, unfortunately, BIPOC do sometimes face harassment and outright racist comments (especially online) that can make getting into the hobby seem scary. Finding welcoming, supportive spaces in person and online can be a big help (the POC Cosplay group on Facebook is great for this) - plus, thanks to things like #28DaysOfBlackCosplay, there is more visibility and inspiration out there than ever before.
The other thing I’d add is to treat each cosplay as a learning experience. Being able to work so closely with my friend on creating a cosplay was a completely different creation process than I’m used to, and it was really cool to be able to learn from each other’s different working styles and experience. It was great to teach her pattern drafting and see how happy she was to learn skills she could apply to future cosplays, and I was so excited when she showed me her PEX pipe hoop skirt method. Looking back on my Princess Daisy cosplay makes me smile because it’s almost like a physical representation of the fun we have cosplaying together.

Megan Thee Stallion Hair is a symbol of pride for black women anime fans
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The highly anticipated release of Megan Thee Stallion's debut album Fever (May 17) has doubled as a national holiday for your sultry and self-confident fanbase. Although hip-hop heavyweight Juicy J and newcomer DaBaby make appearances, the Houston-bred "hot girl" remains the center of the show. And that's how we like it.
Megan's rise was one of the books. In early 2017, she catapulted into fame after attending a hip-hop cipher at Texas A & M University. People all over the country quickly noticed their conscious, deep-drawn river and so their fans, called "hotties", were born. Fast forward to 2019, and you stallion has hosted your own Spotify event, found fans, Rihanna, Kehlani, and SZA, and continues to release hard-hitting freestyles and other repeatable bodies of work.
She is also the first rapping woman signed at 300 Entertainment, home of Young Thug and formerly Migos. But with each ascent comes a humming crew of haters. One of the first sightings of this sad collective, properly known as "hotties," came in March when she shared a photo of her half-white, half-radiant red hair.

– HOT GIRL MEG (@theestallion) April 22, 2019
The title was "TODOROKI TINA", a reference to the My Hero Academia character, Shoto Todoroki. Although a considerable number of people celebrated Megan's love for anime, there were those who questioned their affinity, men. For example, Twitter user @CourtneeHendrix user wrote, "No way Meghan the stallion watch anime. Your public relations team is firing. "
@TrippyTrxv also shared, "ngga yea i want to know what anime megan you stallion watches. Why? bc i love the shI and I like you. If she does not really see it, but dresses in anime halfway cosplay, I would be hurt. I would still do your music fw maybe tho. "Ultimately, these reactions ask the question: what would the stallion gain by showing people that he has fun?
The targeted criticism of naysayers is, to say the least, frustrating. After all, she's not the only woman who shares her love for anime (look at Southern rap goddesses Bbymutha and Purp Goddess), nor is she the first rapper, male or female, ever to do it. Emcees like Lupe Fiasco, Robb Bank $ and Migos' launch are also anime fans but have not been criticized to the same extent. If flagrant racist sexism is not the culprit, then what?
After the Global History of Anime, the first anime was probably released during World War I and created by Shimokawa Oten. The short, colorless rolls of film were either "disassembled", "disintegrated" or "destroyed", so little is known about the early days of this art form. Over the next few decades, anime developed into longer animations, with sound and color to boot. A report by Marwah Zagzoug states that during World War II, the Japanese government took control of the arts by threatening the artists who had also criticized the government. Those who disagreed with the new orders were forbidden to write and pushed to the margins of society. But those who stayed were supplied with artists' companies, militarized and charged with anti-propaganda propaganda.
After the war, anime finally returned to its original purpose: an outlet for joy and honest expression. One of the first visuals that had great success was the full-length feature Hakujaden (The Tale of the White Serpent), which also produced an American adaptation in 1961. Although Global History states that this was not the first crossover, it proved that anime could be a lucrative industry. Finally, television expanded its reach and consumption ballooned in the 1980s with the release of Dragon Ball, the third best selling manga ever. The introduction of Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon in the 1990s soon followed and until then, anime had become the monolithic Global Phenomenon that continues to generate revenue and inspire people of all ages. The Black community is a proud and important part of your loyal fanbase, and women have always been just as invested as men.
The "I liked it before it was mainstream" statement is still a pretty youthful, 2011 Tumblr-era vibe.
Although easy-to-find literature and the Internet have undoubtedly enhanced the profile of this art form, the statement "I liked it before it was mainstream" is still a rather youthful, 2011 Tumbler era sentiment. Unfortunately, there are people who continue to operate out of this logic and in the case of anime, the culprit party is mostly men. When it comes to Megan Thee stallion and her hairstyles specifically, you either wanted to prove to you that she is really interested in or just did not believe that she was even interested. How dare to invest in an attractive, popular, talented black woman in it?
It's another reminder that people continue to pursue the hobbies of black women, no matter what they are. So much so that the stallion himself addressed the controversy in an interview with XXL: "You must stop thinking that way. Poor B * tches may also like anime. "Luckily, a number of supporters, Black Women, have not been afraid to defend Megan and also speak their peace.
"It felt really good to me [weil die Leute] have this misunderstanding .. that black girls did not see anime like black guys when most of us had the same channels and caught the same Miguzi or Toonami block lol after school, "says Taylor, who pokers on @ sheisresting on Twitter , "We were definitely separated from the American anime wave back then. It was fulfilling to see a black female rapper with one such..mainstream potential not only acknowledge anime, but also call himself a fan, while loosely cosplaying your favorite characters. I had the feeling that there are also many black cosplayers who are constantly being told that you can not disguise themselves as Japanese characters because you have the wrong color. "
Taylor was not alone. In fact, over 100 responded when I asked a tweet for black women who were fans of anime and Megan thee stallion. User @dualityofman wrote: ".. I thought your hair would be cool! I'm from Texas and I live in Houston, so I have a lot to do with her. Their liking anime was just another thing we had in common … .I feel like many men hate to see women happy and enjoy things. It's as if you could not call you ugly because it's obviously NOT YOU. Can not say that she is untalented because she is just near everyone [Männer]comes out. She can not insult your intelligence because she is at school. So, let's SH * t like you for anime. I'm just looking for a reason to be mad at a black woman. "

Misogynoir is a term used by the black feminist Moya Bailey and is intended to emphasize the way black men interact negatively with black women. It is also part of the root problem Black men have with Megan Thee stallion music, looks, interests and behavior. What confuses you most is your conviction about it. You can not believe that you are interested in anime, and you hate it for it.
Also worthy of note is the close relationship of Japan to the Black community outlined by Cecilia D 'Anastasio for Vice. It has included the mistreatment of mixed-speed (Japanese and Black) people and in the context of anime, a tiny number of non-stereotypical depictions of Black people. Japan is also notorious for its ubiquitous use of Blackface, which made headlines last year. D 'Anastasio notes that regardless of all these racial crimes, blacks continue to cherish anime and honor him through cosplay and songs.
Rare moments that acknowledge the enduring power of Japanese animation and an underrated part of your fanbase should happen more often.
In 2016, writer Amber Dixon also talked about the hurtful separations she saw and experienced as a black anime fan. These include observing brown skin as a metaphor for dark energy in Sailor Moon, the minstrel – like face of Mr. Popo in Dragon Ball Z and Blackface, to cosplay black characters. Like D 'Anastasio, Dixon continues in the worship of Anime Fort and notices the early and emotional connection she felt specifically with Sailor Moon.
Twitter user @imninm adds, "I know more black girls who see anime more than any race or gender. Personally, I have anime look as I could remember, from Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Sailor Moon, Hamtaro, Dragonball Z. I never felt like it was showing a "boy" or anything like that. I just liked what I saw and I still do. "In other words, anime will always have a special place in the hearts of female viewers, including high-profile rappers like Megan Thee Stallion.

In November 2018, and again this past April, she emphasized her devotion with a different hairstyle inspired by Bulma, a predominant character in Dragon Ball (the first is Goku). This time, instead of an overwhelming amount of criticism, Megan's cascading, Seafoam green locks initiated a tender co-sign from FUNimation, a dubbing and distribution company. "Love the style!" Wrote the company, with a cutesy gif attached by Bulma. Rare moments that acknowledge the enduring power of Japanese animation and an underrated part of your fanbase should happen more often.
Men should be proud that such a celebrity woman like the stallion shares a common ground with you, increases solidarity, and makes room for even more people to become fans. It could also force certain men to accept that women did not want to interact with you or go out because they were nerds, but because they were unbearable. Conscientiousness, happy black, female fans and good music? Thanks, Megan. Stream fever now.

What Happened to Our Friends? ~Fluffy Friday
Tumblr media
(Liam, Drake, Amanda, Maxwell) *friendship x unrequited love*
A Choices: The Royal Romance Fan Fiction
A/N Before the events of The Other Friend and this particular storyline was suggested by one of my little guys.
*song that is lip synched Dream Come True some of the lyrics listed below.*
Tagging those who wanted extra fluff 😉@brightpinkpeppercorn @riseandshinelittleblossom-deact @zaffrenotes  @fullbeaumonty  @speedyoperarascalparty  @bobasheebaby  @tmarie82   @littleblossom-18 @cocomaxley  @ehkw1989  @hopefulmoonobject @leelee10898  @itsstillnotwhatyouthink   @littlecrookedheart @mrswalkerwritesagain @debramcg1106 @krsnlove @littleblossom357 @ritachacha @lodberg
"We have to go to a karaoke bar. We are literally in its birth place!" Maxwell argued while staring out at the bright lights of Tokyo. The city looked amazing against the dark night sky.
Drake and Liam turned hesitantly to the one who had the worst singing voice. Amanda knew what their look meant.
"Don't worry. I won't sing." She folded her arms and looked away from them.
"Then I'll go." Drake said. He let out a grunt when Amanda hit him with a pillow. He smiled as he threw his arm around her shoulders. "We still like you. You're the frog of our group. Nobody croaks a song like you."
Amanda couldn't stop her laugh from coming out. "Yeah, yeah. Keep talking and I start belting out show tunes."
In a sea of neon, they discovered a club that Maxwell declared was the one. When they walked into the lobby, they were surrounded by many in cosplay. Liam studied some and tried to figure out why it was so familiar. His eyes widened as it hit him.
"Amanda! Look it's --"
"Liam! It's a room filled with RWBY fans!"
Maxwell and Drake stared at them in confusion. "Guys...want to tell us what Ruby is?" Maxwell asked.
"First off, it isn't technically the word, 'ruby'. It is the four main characters initials forming their team name." Liam began to explain. "Even though the one character is actually named, Ruby."
"It's an American created anime. It is about--"
Drake held his hand up. "Hold on, let me check on something. Yep. I don't care."
Amanda and Liam looked around and saw a shop selling some RWBY costumes. They whispered excitedly and ran off.
"HEY!" Maxwell exclaimed. "What has gotten into them? Did I miss something when we walked in here?"
"You had to go out and pick this place." Drake said. His jaw dropped when he saw his once sane friends. Liam had on a black hoodie that suspiciously looked like it had a bunny's face on it but was covered by some type of armor over his upper chest. He also had some armor on his upper arms. Gloves and blue jeans completed the look...and was that a shield? He had a large sword and was swinging it alongside what was once Amanda.
She not only was wearing a costume that made him and Maxwell blush at seeing her in something more revealing than she normally wore, she had somehow turned her hair red and had it pulled up in a ponytail. Or else it was a wig. He couldn't tell from this distance. Her outfit looked like something straight out of Greek mythology.
Liam and Amanda stopped before them and posed with their weapons. Amanda had a sword that extended into a javelin in her hand that she held as if to throw while blocking with her shield . "What the---what are you?" Maxwell asked.
"I'm Jaune Arc." Liam announced. "She's Pyrrah Nikos."
"Hello again." She waved and mimicked Pyrrah's sweet voice and phrase perfectly. Liam's smile grew with pride as some nearby asked her to do it again while recording her. When she added the, "I'm sorry," Liam clutched his heart. "That line gets me every time." He said to Maxwell.
"You know what gets me? Is finding a twenty-four hour psychiatrist for you two." Drake dryly replied.
"How did you get your hair like that?" Maxwell stepped closer to her and stared at locks that were once dark brown, a color he had been very fond of.
"Spray on hair color." She faced Liam and handed Maxwell her weapons. "Speaking of hair, hold still..." She ran her fingers through Liam's until it was mussed completely.
"Thank you. I forgot to do that." He scrutinized her and straightened her sash, causing Drake and Maxwell to simply stare. This could not be happening. Where were their calm, retiring friends? Who were these people?
After Amanda and Liam were satisfied with how the other looked, they all walked in and were surrounded by multiples of particular characters. There was a table with pictures of scenes from RWBY and a sheet of paper. Amanda read it and immediately wrote her name down.
"What did you sign up for?" Liam asked.
"RWBY lip synch contest!" Liam groaned when he couldn't think of a song to lip sync dressed as Juane.
"Seriously! What has happened to you two?"
They shrugged at Drake. "You would understand if you watched it." Amanda answered patiently. Liam's pitying look at him and Maxwell freaked them out.
"How have we not known you two suffered with this affliction? Have you been having clandestine dates to watch this?" Maxwell's laugh died when they lowered their eyes.
"Wait, that's what you have been doing?! What did you use to trick us into not joining?" He asked.
Amanda chewed on her bottom lip while Liam rubbed the back of his neck. "You know that committee we asked if you wanted to be a part of that you both refused last year?"
"Are you talking about the one to make sure roadkill is removed in a specific--good lord we were stupid to believe that was an actual thing." Drake held his head at the revelation.
Maxwell's eyes widened. "You even made an acronym for it! You called it...RWBY!
"It was rather grim for a committee." Amanda winked at Liam, causing him to double over in laughter.
"What's so funny?" The two left in the dark demanded.
"You wouldn't understand it." Liam replied. Amanda took pity on them. "Grimm are the creatures that our characters, and many that you see here represented, fight."
"You have private jokes over this?" Maxwell thought something was very wrong with this. He wasn't sure what, but she shouldn't have private jokes with just Liam. That was supposed to be their thing.
They sat at a table and began to watch some Ruby's and Weiss' and a few Sun's try their hand getting the crowd into their performances. Many Yang's, two Blake's, and one Nora gave it their all.
Amanda sat with her leg shaking. She recalled why she never volunteered to do these things. She hated being the center of attention. Her costume had gone to her head and made her think she really was brave.
Noticing her jittery nervousness, Maxwell leaned forward and spoke in her ear, "Just pretend it is only us in the room."
Liam grinned at her. "Remember, your song is to me."
She nodded and stood when her name was called. She left her weapons and got on the stage. Her head was bowed in front of the microphone as she waited for her song to start. She couldn't help but think of the irony of lip synching this song in front of Maxwell.
"What do you mean her song is to you?" Drake asked.
"Her character is in love with mine. I, or rather my character doesn't know it and has a crush on someone else. That one," he pointed at a girl all in white. "Weiss is the one Juane likes, until season 3." His smile disappeared as he thought of that season. That ending still upset him.
"They kiss!" Maxwell had pulled up an image on his phone. He gritted his teeth as he looked up at Amanda. Why would they pick these two characters?
Tumblr media
When the first piano notes were played, her head came up and she began. She started on one end of the room, acting coy with some of the other Juane's.
When she reached their table, she had relaxed and was really playing it up. She actually appeared sincere as she mouthed the rest of the lyrics. She smiled at Liam and moved around him. He in turn did the mannerisms of Juane causing cheers from the crowd.
I've been spending time wondering why,
Nothing that I do can catch your eye.
Just can't capture your attention.
Maybe I'm too tall or not your type,
But I'm not giving up, I'll get it right.
Being close to you is my intention.
I see more in you than the rest of them do
And I'm not gonna let you fall.
I'll swallow my pride, time after time,
Cause you're worth it all.
Whenever I think of you,
How I wish you only knew,
That you might be my dream come true.
But what do I have to do to make you notice me?
A girl dressed as Weiss at a nearby table began to flirt with Maxwell. Amanda narrowed her eyes and thought the timing couldn't be more perfect. She walked over to stand directly in front of the man she secretly loved with her whole heart.
Oh, know that.
You and I we would be alright,
We could dance on the roof, we could light the night.
Gotta make you see me in that way.
Why don't you,
Forget about the little chick in white?
She don't care about you and she's so uptight.
Let me put a smile on your face.
She tilted his face up and ran her gloved hand along his jaw and into his hair as she leaned down to look directly in his eyes. He swallowed nervously and placed his hand over hers.
How I wish that you knew that I'm crazy for you.
And I'm waiting by your side.
I'll get you alone,
Make you my own,
It will be divine.
She walked away, smiling at Maxwell's stunned expression. She returned to the stage and continued to work the crowd into a frenzy as they began to clap along with the last few stanzas. She ended the song by meeting Maxwell's eyes with a heartbroken face as she pleaded the sad words, "notice me?"
Once the contest ended, Amanda was announced as the winner. As she went to the stage to collect her prize, the guys all stood cheering. She was given a gift basket filled with RWBY collectibles and shirts. She promised the crowd to share it with her Juane, causing the cosplayers to laugh and applaud.
"I feel like we are stuck in some alternate dimension." Drake whispered to Maxwell.
Suddenly a loud song began making them both jump. Liam whooped. "They're playing Shine!" He jumped up and grabbed Amanda as her face lit with recognition of the song. They joined the other cosplayers and began to do some choreographed dance.
"They have a dance!" Mawell knew this was the final straw. Drake was pulling it up on his phone. "Yep, and apparently it was a pretty big deal between their characters. Why am I looking this up?! This has to be some type of contagion. We will probably lose our minds soon just like them."
Maxwell frowned and watched them dance in line. They came back, cheeks red and an arm around each other. "Can you believe this night?" Amanda yelled over the music.
"Nope. I haven't been able to believe any part of it." Drake teased. "Are we ever going to do what we originally planned?"
"I booked a room for the karaoke." Liam motioned for them to follow him.
Amanda fell into step with Maxwell and slipped her arm through his. She gave into an impulse and kissed his cheek. She leaned her head against his shoulder as they walked. "Thank you for encouraging me earlier."
His anger evaporated when he looked down at her. "Why did you and Liam choose these two out of all the characters?"
A soft smile appeared on her face. "These are who we share the most characteristics with. Juane is placed as leader of his team but doubts his ability to be the right one and struggles throughout the series. He wants to protect all he loves and is relentless in trying to make himself worthy of their faith in him. He never sees what he really is."
Maxwell nodded. "That is definitely Liam. What about yours?" His curiosity peaked as she started to blush.
"Pyrrah is one who offers encouragement to everyone. She doesn't mind being in the background yet is willing to step up when it is the right thing to do. She sees the best in those around her and tries to point it out to them."
Maxwell grinned. "That's you. Anything else you identify with?"
"Well...she did suffer with an unrequited love for Juane. I definitely know what that feels like." Amanda preceded him into the room while he paused outside. Did she mean she had been in love with someone or was in love with someone and it wasn't reciprocated? Who was it? Liam was dressed as Juane...but she lip synched some lines to directly to him. He wondered if he would ever figure it out.

Say howdy to Acdramon Cosplay Cavern! A very advance cosplayer and prop maker. I was really honored to be able to talk with him. Enjoy getting to know more about him him y'all! Well I've always been a costume designer ever since I was a child. I loved conceiving different outfits for some of my youtube video! I officially started cosplay January of 2014 though, so it's been 4 years! 1.) What was it about designing your own clothing and cosplay that you found appealing? I just love the creativity of building. The fact that I can see a character in armor and say "YUP, I'm building that!", and then actually do it is so freaking liberating and awesome to me. 2.) Can you share your cosplay line up for this year? As much as I wish I could share my lineup, I just can't cause I make it up as I go along. I do plan on rebuilding my Batman Beyond, starting the Blue Ranger from the 2017 Power Rangers movie, as well as try more casual cosplays! 3.) How often do you get spotted out for the character you are portraying? Have anyone gotten it wrong? I got spotted out a ton last year for my Watch Dogs 2 cosplay to the point where people referred to me as Marcus, the main character, out of cosplay. I do remember back in 2015, when I was cosplaying as Scorpion from Mortal Kombat, people called me Reptile & Raiden... Don't ask me how that even happened. 4.) Any cons you plan on visiting this year? 4.) I plan on visiting Colossalcon, AnimeNEXT, Otakon, and hopefully New York Comic Con! It's rough, but I guess the silver lining is that since I'm not known it doesn't happen that often. 5.) Have you faced any racial tension at a con you've attended? Luckily, I haven't faced too much racial tension at cons I went to. There were instances where I would see a photographer gloss over a group of black cosplayers with a look of disapproval and scurry away. There are also times where someone would come up to me and say "Hey, nice black Scorpion.", "I don't usually see black cosplayers build this well!" or my favorite, "You know you aren't being accurate cause of your skin color right, hahah!" It's rough, but I guess the silver lining is that since I'm not known it doesn't happen that often. Interviewer: I'm glad we a real building more platforms for black and brown cosplayers. A lot of things just doesn't sit well with me when people expect us to just stick with characters or only race when there's so little representation of them in anime and video games. Then want us to sit quietly as they darken their skin for accuracy. That's not how it works. And I really hope people will learn from their mistakes and stop black and brown and yellowface but we still have a long way to go. If you don't consider yourself rasict, then learn to listen to the very people that are basically yelling that it's hurtful. Our skin amd culture isn't some hip new costume. It's who we are as a people. Can't you at least respect that. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/averybyrdcosplay/
