Nettles Casting Speculation

Since HBO won’t announce the casting for Nettles(understandably), and because we are all going mad due to a lack of official news for her, I thought I would compose a list of all the actresses who could potentially be her.

(Shout out to @nettlesdefensesquad cause she found a lot of these actresses).

Take this whole list with a massive grain of salt because my criteria for this was Black(ish) British/Black(ish) actresses in British productions between the ages of 26-33 (according to some guy on Reddit, Nettles actress is 32, so I thought I’d be lenient with the age) who’s side profile sorta matches this picture of Nettles presumed actress in costume:

Keeping all that in mind, here’s our list:

1. Gabrielle Brooks

While her side profile does not really match the woman in the blurry photo, Gabrielle just turned 33, I believe she’s following/being followed by some of the HOTD cast, and she doesn’t appear to be working on any projects at the moment so we can’t rule her out 🤷🏽‍♀️

2. Yohanna Ephrem

Can’t find her exact age, but based on the side profiles it looks as if she could be a match and she appears not to be working on anything right now. She also doesn’t appear to have any social media so bonus points?

3. Marilyn Nnadebe

Marilyn is 32 and it appears like she is not working on any projects right now.

4. Jordan Loughran

People have been fan-casting her for years, but since she was used in a recent fancast, I decided to look her up, and lo and behold she’s 31! Jordan was already on a HBO show, Raised by Wolves, which also happens to be the same show Alyn’s actor(Abubakar Salim) was on so bonus points.

5. Lois Chimimba

The side profile isn’t that great of a match, but she is 31, about to be 32, and she doesn’t appear to be working on anything at the moment.

6. Tamaira Hesson

I can’t find a decent side profile pick and I can’t find Tamaira’s exact age, but under her playing age, it lists 20-30. She doesn’t appear to be working on any projects at the moment and besides LinkedIn, she doesn’t appear to have any social media.

7. Ronke Adekoluejo

Ronke is 31 and her side profile is kinda a match.

8. Meesha Turner

The side profiles aren’t that much of a match, but for the people who speculate that Nettles actress is tall, Meesha is 5’9.” She’s 32 and she’s not working on anything at the moment. (In fact back in October she left her role as Catherine Parr in the production Six the Musical).

9. Jasmine Rachelle

Can’t find her exact age, but she’s I don’t think she’s older than 25/26. Jasmine is 5’9.”

10. Sherelle Johnson

I can’t find her exact age(or a side profile pic), but her playing age range is between 18-28. I also don’t think she’s working on anything at the moment.

11. Crystal Clarke

Crystal’s last show Sanditon just ended and for the time being it does not look as if she has any other projects in the works. She is around 30.

(I would literally jump for joy if she was playing Nettles).

12. Gleanne Purcell-Brown

The profile isn’t dead on, but Glenne’s playing age is between 20-30. She doesn’t appear to be working on anything and she is 5’8.”

13. Lebogang Fisher

Her playing age is between 18-28. She doesn’t appear to be working on any projects at the moment.

14. Casey Al-Shaqsy

Casey’s playing age is between 19-25. She doesn’t appear to be working on any projects at the moment.

15. Lydia Fraser

Not a side profile picture, but Lydia’s playing age is between 20-35. She is currently working on a stage play though.

16. Yazzmin Newell

Her playing range is between 20-30. It doesn’t look as if she’s working on anything at the moment(her last series was canceled earlier this year). Steve Touissaint is also following her.

17. Madeleine Mantock

She was gearing up for a play back in June, but she’s 33 and 5’9.”

18. Tia Bannon

Not sure about her exact age, but she graduated with a BA back in 2015 so she fits the age range.

19. Danielle Vitalis

Honestly, this is another case of the side profile not really matching, but she fits the age range(play range is 16-30) so I’m adding her just to cover all our bases🤷🏽‍♀️

20. Karla Simone-Spence

Listen my behind knows she’s not going to play Nettles, but she follows Bethany on Instagram and she’s 27. Let me dream 😭

21. Natalie Simpson

Her playing age is 23-33(I think she’s in her early 30s).

22. Leah Haile

According to her Spotlight, she’s currently working on the Snow White movie that comes out next year, but I just thought I might include her. Her playing age is between 16-25.

23. Jessica Allain

Do the side profiles match? Probably not, but she’s 26 and pretty tall so I’m including her.

24. Thalissa Teixeira

Shes been fancasted as Nettles in the past and she’s in her early 30s and it doesn't look like she's really working on anything🤷🏽‍♀️

25. Shantol Jackson

Are the side profiles matching? Nope, but she is 31.

26. Sophia Brown

She's tall 5’ 8” and 31. I really couldn’t find a good side profile pic of Sophia, but I wouldn’t rule her out.

27. Zaraah Abrahams

She’s 36 so she’s a little out of the age range, but she looks young, again, we are covering all of our bases.

28. Razan Nassar

She’s on the young side(25), but she’s been in a show with Bethany Antonia(Get Even), hence the inclusion.

29. Simona Brown

She’s 29 and she doesn’t appear to be working on anything.

There are some actresses who are a bit too young so I didn’t include them, but in case Reddit guy was all the way off, Corinna Brown(who follows Bethany) and Coco Rebecca Edogamhe are good contenders.

This list is not extensive, so anyone with any suggestions feel free to add them 😊(please add them because your girl is desperate 😭).

✏ bratfeen first date comic process! 💕

ok !! this is kind of a new thing that i’m trying out, which is that i’m just gonna ramble about my process about certain pieces/comics/Whatevers that i draw!

i’ll just be talking about my thoughts, drawing process, and also some struggles i had as i drew the whole thing. so if you’re interested in reading through all that and seeing some sketches/other bonus bits, keep on reading ! :-)c

(warning: v text heavy + veeery long post ahead! i get rambly LOL)

obligatory disclaimer: i’m a self-taught hobbyist artist so take everything i say with a grain of salt! i’m no pro and am not stating that i am one -- this is just my process. if you learn literally Anything from it, that’s super cool! :-Dc anyway, enjoy reading!

OK !! god so this comic was SO fun to make, i had a great time planning things out, (mostly dialogue bubbles and where drawings will be cus i just love dialogue LOL) and also had a great time fussing about w 983749 overlays n whatnot (also becus feenie but shhh)

n e way since i really wanted this to come out good (+ just to get a general idea of how each page is going to be laid out) i made some thumbnails for each page! (shown below)

they’re very small, barebones, and very silly, but by making it i knew what i was kinda going for + it gave me a general idea of the layout of dialogue bubbles and where drawings will be (ig that’d be considered the composition? i’m not sure LOL). i always love planning out where bubbles will be in relation to the drawings (because i’m pretty sure that, with comics, dialogue bubbles kind of guide the reader’s eye through the page) so this was fun for me! i tried to keep the flow of the bubbles in mind to make sure everything was readable throughout the entire process of making this comic. also, with making thumbnails, i try to be quick about it, since i can fuss with the nitty-gritty of each page later on.

(ouuh but also notice that i didn’t really have anything planned for the Feenie Reveal page (the bottom right rectangle). that’s cause i just really had no idea how i wanted to draw him in at the time i was making thumbnails. this actually ended up making things v troublesome for me later on T_T (but we’ll get to that later!))

i then started out making more refined sketches of what each page is going to be like (shown below this paragraph; im sorry the pics are so big/make the post so long, tumblr formatting is a$$ T_T). to do this i basically just sized up each thumbnail to the size of the canvas and made more detailed sketches of what each page is going to be. this is kind of an important step, since this is what i later based my final lines off of (but i also don’t really have a streamlined process for making comics yet so i do tend to go back and forth with sketching & lines LOL). i also wrote in some of the dialogue here, just to make sure that the dialogue makes sense (though i did change/add some things later on!)

after that i just started going ham with drawing. as mentioned before, i don’t have a streamlined process with making comics so i still jump around between steps because my attention span is -7. i tried working on one page at a time, but again, -7 attention span, so i end up jumping between working on pages half the time LOL . . .

when i started putting down colours i struggled a bit since, initially, the colours i put down just didn’t seem right. i knew i wanted a dark background to represent it being like night time, but trying to make the colours of the lines, the characters, and other things work out was a wholeass mental workout. throughout struggling with the colours i always made sure to check the values of everything (chat bubbles, characters) to make sure everything makes a cohesive piece! i don’t have any pics for the colour process specifically, but i can show y’all the flats for the boys’ main fits:

after i laid down all my flats i just went ham with shading. i did two multiply layers for each characters; one for like cel shading & another for a more soft shading look. i also just went ham with the background since i discovered the beauty that is the luminance brushes on procreate. i used the pulse brush a lot just to add more life & colour into the background of most of the panels, since most of them were just a plain dark colour at that time & that’s just boring LOL

REAL QUICK b4 we continue !!! i wanna talk about my feenie struggle. god, idk whats up with this one but this feenie gave me SOOO much trouble 😭😭😭 maybe this is due to the lack of planning in the thumbnail stage, but i really have no clue T_T i usually have such a Good & Easy time drawing him T____T </3 (i think i just need to do more studies for the human body + face from diff angles. . . LOL . . .)

but yeah ! for the final page i think i redrew him like 3-4 times total bc i couldn’t nail his pose + face down; i nailed miles in like the first or second go. i also had to like resize miles & feenie at some points bc they didn’t take up As Much Space in the panels as i’d like, since i didn’t want there to be an awkward thing of just Blank Space in the comic (if that makes sense). so that’s something i’m still trying to learn !

ok back to the main process LOL ⬇⬇⬇

after all of that i just finished up the dialogue bubbles + text. also, real quick add-on: throughout the whole process i keep going back to make sure that the dialogue bubbles + character drawings r balanced out & has a nice flow! also also, with the text/dialogue i debated using my handwriting vs the text tool for dialogue. i wanted a more Organic feel so i wanted to use my handwriting, but then realized my handwriting is absolute sh!t so i just used the text tool LOL

after adding in the text, i keep moving things around (bc, again, probs due to a lack of planning) and just fussed with everything until i like how things look. i added overlay layers, a lot of bokeh effect things, found a brush that did a heart bokeh thing (bless the person who created that btw holy sh1t), added a flat colour layer (i think i used a pink-ish colour) with the noise effect to add Texture etc etc.

and then i was pretty much done ! :-Dc

So I just started playing honkai and since ur the only person that I know plays and I have no fucking clue what I'm doing any advice? (Also I havnt even played past the tutorial, I havnt even met the character yet, and idk what you thought but kiana seems pretty gay for mei because her literal first to lines about her are "I wonder what she'll make us for dinner!" and "Mei! Am I gonna meet up with Mei?!" Like I'm probably wrong but idk it just seems a bit 💅)

Oh Kiana’s totally head over heels for Mei dkfjskfjsk. I used to main her and jesus christ I had to hear her gush about Mei so many times a day ;;;;;;; one of her idle lines is basically “it’s so sunny outside!! This would be a perfect time to go on a date with Mei…..”

Sigh. That girl’s pining so hard it’s ridiculous. Love her. KiaMei my beloved <3333 dkfjskjdksjd

Anyways moving on, take all of this with a grain of salt bc I am not by any means a Professional Honkai Player skfjskdjks. I’ve looked up exactly Zero tutorials and done exactly Zero tests, I’m just spewing what seems to work for me

Idk if you’re a completionist or not but like it might be good to mention dkfjskdnsk ah, 3-starring all the levels isn’t really necessary unless you want crystals for gacha pulls. Well they give other things too but I usually do it for crystals. Don’t worry about it early on, you can always go back later and redo the levels.

Open World mode is unlocked at Captain Level 18, but CL35 is when you unlock Adventure Tasks; that’s what I mainly use OW for. I find that it’s a good way to get gold and materials. They also give battlesuit fragments, so it’s good if you want a specific character. But I’ve only seen a few specific battlesuits given so like. Idk. But yeah Adventure Tasks are good.

Also btw there’s three different Open Worlds. It doesn’t matter which one you do, but there’s one called A Post-Honkai Odyssey. Idk if it’s unlocked already for you, but I wouldn’t recommend doing that one since you’re so early into the game. It’s not bad or crazy hard or anything, but I think it’s better if you get farther into the story before you start it. I’m not that far in and it kinda confused me ;;;;

Oh oh! If you can, use those stamina replenisher items as well as the HOMU boxes. They give you stamina and gold when you use them. Istg you can never have enough of those, especially later in the game. I’m like. Level 73 and I’m still literally always broke because I need to level up my characters ;;;;;; usually it’s leveling up skills that makes my money evaporate into thin air, but enhancing weapons and stigmatas has done that as well………

^^ two types of HOMU boxes, the right one gives you the most amount of gold.

^^ and then a few items that give you stamina when used. There’s a ton and they all look different. Both HOMU boxes and stamina items can be found in Equipment, you can filter it by Materials to make it easier to find them. If you’re not sure what they do, just tap on them and check the description, it’ll say smth like “use to get 60 stamina” or “use to get 1000 gold”

Idk what level it is specifically, but when you unlock the dorms, there’s a thing that generates both over time. You’ll wanna claim those as often as possible, I usually do it when I first log in. (While I’m talking about it, I’d recommend trying to log in every day at least. It’s not mandatory, but the daily rewards are really nice imo.)

^^ those are the things I’m talking about dkfjksjd I know it says beta testing on the bottom, but the official dorm base looks basically the exact same. The dorm bonuses are still on the right, I just don’t have my ipad with me to take actual screenshots and for some reason I couldn’t find any pics of the actual dorm screen for the life of me

There’s also weekday events if you go to Attack and then events. On Saturday and Sunday, you can do the Super HOMU Run thingy and it’ll give you a ton of gold.

Ummm stigmatas are good! And weapons. Try to level those up, they help a lot if you wanna do more damage. I used to just put random stigmatas on my Valkyries bc I had no clue what they did but!! They have like. Actual effects and stats that help more when they’re given to characters who would actually benefit from them dkfjskjxskjd. So characters who deal fire damage would benefit from stigmatas who buff/deal fire damage, characters who have a damage boost against enemies who are paralyzed benefit from stigmatas that paralyze enemies. Would not recommend putting stigmatas that buff ranged attacks on a character who fights melee aha ;;;;;; same situation with weapons and weapon skills. It isn’t like. Game breaking or anything if you do happen to put mismatched equipment on your characters, but it uhhh might help a little

It also helps to take advantage of the leader skills!

There’s not any set character that has The Best Bonus, it depends on what you need on that level. Personally I like boosted damage and attack speed but that’s because my playstyle is basically just ooga booga spam attack button

Hmmmm I think Q-Singularis is good to do? I’m bad at remembering to do it because up until like. Yesterday, I was maybe a little tiny bit bitter that it replaced a previous Abyss that I really loved, but the rewards for it are pretty good even if the bleed effect leaves my Valkyries on life support sometimes. (There’s also Dirac Sea, they rotate between the two. That one’s good as well, I’m pretty sure they give the same rewards but I might be wrong. Like I said, I forget to do them skfjskjdsknd)

Armadas are also pretty nice, they’re basically guilds/groups you can join that give you rewards based on how much you contribute. I think you unlock them fairly early on? You have to play consistently to not get kicked though. I forget to log in for months on end sometimes so I’m. Pretty frequently kicked out aha ;;;;;

SIR HOW DID U MAKE THE HAIR THING

OOOOH BOY IT WAS A WILD RIDE

basically, i took black craft foam and cut 2 pieces in the shape i wanted for the "cowlick". it's really floppy at first and looks like this.

then i took some cheap bendable wire i found at michael's (it was like $3 for a giant roll), cut 4 pieces, and hot glued them to the inside of one of the foam pieces. once they're all in place i just sealed it with the other foam piece and it could stand on its own !

(the pic explains the process a little, i'll go more in depth b/c its a bit more complicated)

after this point we enter what i call tacky glue hair hell. i got some cheap wig wefts off of amazon, cut them to the proper size, and basically COVERED the foam in tacky glue and pasted the wefts on. that's a lot harder than it sounds because the hair isn't connected to each other except at the top so once you cut it, it gets literally everywhere and the glue gets everywhere and makes the hair all clumpy and unusable once it touches it. so this was a lot of trial and error and in the end it doesn't even stick that well ! the trick is to do two layers, first a bottom layer that does most of the job, with the hair still attached to the top part of the weft that keeps it together. let that dry and then trim and do another layer to fill in the gaps. take some tacky glue on your fingers and push the hair at the back of the spike together to keep it in place, and then GO NUTS WITH THE HAIRSPRAY.

oh, also - always place the hair in the direction that the foam is longest. that means the part that goes vertical from the head, place the weft vertical. don't go horizontal. trust me. if that makes sense.

the last part is getting it to stay on your head since i'm using my actual hair instead of a wig. i tried using clips, but this made for a pretty unstable structure that didn't stay in place. so the trick is to use a hairband ! hot glue a little bit of extra foam that's pretty long to the bottom of the structure (forgot to mention - if you flare out the bottom of the foam to make it a bit more of a 3d structure, it helps), and then tape those long edges to the hairband with some black tape and it'll stay in place. it looks like this.

i'm sure there are much better ways to do this than tape, but that's what worked for me ! hot glue does NOT work because the structure is so unbalanced. the tape is actually surprisingly subtle.

then when you put it in you just brush your hair back over the band and it looks fine ! hope this helps. i'm not a wig expert at all so take everything i say with a grain of salt, this was just a fun little project and i basically went into it blind with minimal wig experience. it was a lot of trial and error. the working structure was actually my second attempt !

bonus - this is attempt number one. don't glue the wig wefts horizontally on the tall part. just. Don't. it's a bad time.
