Headcanon about my two OCs seen here.
Angela Finnegan (Maiden name: Richards) was born and raised in the City of London in May of 1989 and Landon Finnegan was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland in April of 1977 before moving to Fulham in the Greater London Area. They first met in January of 2020 before the Global Pandemic of COVID-19.
Angela is a Customer Service Manager at Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 for British Airways and has been on the job for over 10 years after joining in 2008 when Terminal 5 first opened. She has been known for her kindness towards other passengers and her colleagues at British Airways. She worked at Airports across the UK and the US from London Heathrow to Phoenix Sky Harbor. In 2020, she first met Landon while assisting the crew of a British Airways Flight that was bound for Newark, New Jersey and had to return to Heathrow. She kept him safe and took care of him with the help of her best friend Ellie Phillips of the Pontypandy Fire Service and NHS Wales until the London Ambulance Service arrived. She was always there for him before, during, and after the Pandemic. In 2022, She got engaged with Landon and then in December of 2022, they got Married and at the end of 2022 now have their first child. Now, Angela works close to home with Landon in Nearby Hillingdon which is in proximity of Heathrow Airport.
Landon is an In-flight Business Manager who oversees the cabin crew on all British Airways flights. He first joined British Airways in June of 1996. His first flight outside of the UK was in July when British Airways began flights from London Gatwick Airport to Phoenix Sky Harbor before the flight was moved to Heathrow Airport in 2002. He was the flight attendant who saw the news of September 11th 2001 while on a flight from London to New York, American Airlines flight 587 when he was in the air from London to Copenhagen, British Airways flight 38 when he was on the Ground after a Flight from Phoenix to London on Flight 288, and British Airways 2276 while on flight BA275 to Las Vegas. He served as a Flight Attendant for British Airways and has been on the job for over 20 years. He was there when Concorde retired in 2003 and both him and Angela watched as the British Airways 747-400 was retired in 2020. Now, Landon is overseeing the services on other aircraft such as the Boeing 777-200, Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 787-8, Boeing 787-9, Boeing 787-10, Airbus A319-100, Airbus A320-200, Airbus A320neo, Airbus A321-200, Airbus A321neo, Airbus A350-XWB (A350-1000), and the Airbus A380-800. In 2020, he met Angela after he was injured on BA185 heading to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. He was taken to Hospital and he was released the same day. They spent time together during the pandemic, Landon got Engaged with Angela in 2022 and then he Married her in December of 2022. He now has a new daughter with His wife.

Oof, that would’ve been real bad. And unlike the near-miss at SFO a couple years ago— which was also pilot error but a sort of understandable pilot error that had some contributing factors thanks to poor procedures— this sounds like the American Airlines pilot just fucked up completely.

The new Terminal B at New York La Guardia offers some great vantage points for photographing the action on the ramp. Here a Southwest 737 gets ready to pass under one of the passenger skyways that connect the landside terminal with the gate areas. ⁣ ⁣ There’s an old saying about the prior “Big Three” American large airframe manufacturers from years ago- Lockheed was into systems, Douglas was into structures, and Boeing was into aerodynamics. ⁣ ⁣ If there’s one thing that proves Boeing’s abilities in aerodynamics, it would have to be the wing of the 737NG- in fact, I’d argue that the 737NG’s wing is one of the most unheralded aerodynamic marvels of modern transport, not because of what it can do but how it transformed what was a slow, small, short-haul jet in the 737-100/200 to the performer that the NG line is today, capable of transcontinental and transoceanic flight.⁣ ⁣ Contrary to common belief, compared to the Classics, the NG’s wing is all new with a supercritical airfoil derived from the same work that led to the 777’s wing. It’s deeper in chord, longer span with lower wing loading. The inspar wing box is larger as well which allows more fuel. ⁣ ⁣ Over the 737-300, the 737-700 gains 4000 feet in service ceiling and depending upon where you look and the flight profile, 800 miles more range and all for a higher speed and less drag. When the 737NG was developed, it was stuck with a handicapped engine- the short landing gear meant that the new CFM56 versions for the NG couldn’t be as efficient as possible from larger fans like the CFM56s on the A320 family. ⁣ ⁣ This handicap I’d argue was offset handily by the 737NG wing design.⁣ ⁣ #avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #LGA #LaGuardia #NewYork #NYC #airport #planespotting #instaplane ⁣ #Boeing #737 #Southwest #Airlines #SWApic⁣ ⁣ #instagramaviation #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #flight ⁣ #AvGeeksAero #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge #AvGeekNation (at La Guardia (LGA) - New York City) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cf-mVZbMCTu/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Stranded In Russia, 216 Air India Passengers Wait For Replacement Aircraft
Tumblr media
Magadan is over 10,000 km from Russia's capital Moscow. New Delhi: A relief aircraft will depart from Mumbai at 1 pm for Russia's Magadan to take stranded Air India passengers to San Francisco, the Civil Aviation Ministry announced today. An Air India flight which was headed to San Francisco from New Delhi, was diverted to Magadan on Tuesday after it developed an engine issue. A replacement aircraft bound for Russia's Magadan on Wednesday to fly out stranded passengers was delayed as Air India officials are working through regulatory issues in order to operate the flight. NDTV has learned that several stranded Air India passengers in remote Magadan, which is over 10,000 km from Russia's capital Moscow, are being housed in dormitories because hotels in the area are unable to accommodate everyone on the flight. The Civil Aviation Ministry said today that it is closely watching the developments in the remote Russian city. "Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia is closely monitoring the situation. We are in touch with the airline," a statement from the ministry said. "Air India is sending a relief aircraft B777-200LR VT-ALF as ferry with men and material on board for recovery of VT-ALH. The aircraft VT-ALF will take passengers from Magadan to San Francisco International Airport. The tentative departure of VT-ALF from Mumbai is today at 1 pm IST. "Air India has informed us that they're taking care of passengers - local government is helping with accommodation. Passengers have been moved to a school close to the airport. The Indian embassy has also been contacted to provide food & essentials." Air India's flights into the US West Coast while flying east across the Pacific Ocean give the carrier a massive advantage over other airlines that cannot presently operate over Russian airspace. This, however, comes with its own set of challenges, which Air India is aware of. Emergency or precautionary landings in remote Russian airports with upwards of 200 passengers onboard its Boeing 777-200LR aircraft is a scenario that Air India management knows to be potentially problematic - available infrastructure on the ground being a big concern. The United States meanwhile said that it is "closely monitoring" the situation. "We are aware of a US-bound flight that had to make an emergency landing in Russia and are continuing to monitor that situation closely. I'm not able to confirm how many US citizens were aboard the flight at this time," US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said. "It was a flight that was bound for the United States. So, it is, of course, likely that there are American citizens on board. There's public reporting from Air India that they are sending - what my understanding is - a replacement aircraft to the destination to have the passengers carry on for their route, but I would defer to the air carrier to speak to anything further on this," Mr Patel added. The Air India plane was carrying 216 passengers and 16 crew members. Source link Read the full article

It was revealed that the Bangladeshi agent who rigged the Dhaka-Guangzhou ticket was pulled out
Tumblr media
State-run Bangladesh Airlines has sparked fresh controversy by ignoring rules to help its favorite travel agency sell tickets for its inaugural Dhaka-Guangzhou route, which departs on Aug. 18.
The scam has sparked huge controversy in the industry and exposed an influential group that rigged fares, with leaders of travel agencies and recruiting agencies calling for the deportation and arrest of Biman officials for their financial gain from Takeoff Travels.
They claim that the same group of the national airline raised the price of air tickets to the Middle East to more than Tk 100,000 from Tk 35,000 last year, but they are not responsible for the crime.
The long-awaited flight, a 300-seat Boeing 777, took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on August 18 with 177 passengers, although 229 passengers booked their tickets after paying in full through Takeoff Travels.
The agency retains its share of the standard 7% commission before transferring the proceeds from the sale of 175 tickets to Biman. The Biman officer then issues a ticket or confirmation to the passenger. However, 20 tickets were not sold.
Biman spokeswoman Tahera Khondoker said they issued tickets for all outgoing flights.
Before Biman entered the competition, local private company US-BANGLA and two Chinese airliners had operated flights on the route.
US-Bangladesh Airlines has booked six months in advance.
On the other hand, the agency, which is part of the Meimeng Group, offered promotions on Biman tickets for the route on WeChat on August 8 and on its Facebook page on August 10, the day Biman revealed the date of the inaugural flight.
On August 16, Biman issued a statement saying that passengers can purchase tickets for the first flight of the Guangzhou route at a Biman sales center, and go to Biman's website www.biman-airlines.com or buy an arrival ticket with an authorized Biman travel agency.
According to the association, there are no fewer than 500 such ticket agents.
Biman cannot allow a single agent to sell its tickets, especially on maiden flights, in accordance with Biman's ticket booking policy and International Air Transport Association (IATA) regulations. Furthermore, allowing an agency to sell tickets unilaterally and informally means selling tickets on the black market.
Several officials at the Biman Marketing and Sales Directorate (MSD) said Takeoff Travels got the job - illegally - after a verbal agreement with some senior officials in the department for a 7 percent commission on each ticket. Half of the amount was picked up by theBiman's fares are fixed at $1,600, $1,800 and $2,000 for economy class and $3,500 and $3,800 for business class. For arrival flights, prices have been set at Tk42,521 for Economy Class and Tk1,11,324 for Business Class.
Takeoff Travels, which started operations in 2016, is one of three ticketing agencies that are part of the M&M Group. The other two are Triplover and Travel Gem, according to Takeoff Travels manager Ataharul Islam.
A spokesman for the group contacted by the Dhaka Tribune, Kamrul Islam, denied Takeoff Travels. "It does not belong to the American Bengal Group. But the agency has the right to sell our tickets." Biman members of the syndicate.
Collusion problem
While everyone blames the dishonest officials at Biman and Takeoff Travels for circumventing the rules, these people remain reluctant to take corrective action.
"We have an agreement with Biman. We are allowed to sell about 200 tickets for Biman's Guangzhou route out of 300 tickets," Ataharul Islam told Dhaka Tribune.

Here’s N752AN on a downwind leg for DFW at sunrise. It often comes up why the 777-200/300 and 777-200ER don’t have winglets of any sort while the later -300ER, -200LR and 777F do. It all boils down to the wing design- being an all new supercritical wing design, the 777’s wing was designed with the latest understanding of aerodynamics in the late 1990s, so it was designed to be so efficient that it didn’t need them. Winglets essentially increase the aspect ratio of the wing without increasing the span which leads to drag reductions- but what Boeing did was simply extend the wing of the -200/300/200ER so it was designed from the outset to have an aspect ratio that would have made a winglet redundant. Interestingly, though, Aviation Partners has a 777 blended winglet that’s about 13 feet tall and if it ever went into production, it would be even bigger than the current production biggest winglet, that used on the 767-300 which is about 11 feet tall. But no current 777-200/200ER/300 operators have been interested and the -200LR/-300ER/777F used raked wingtips instead of blended winglets. Winglets aren’t magic bullets- there is also a weight and structural penalty that comes with them. On the 777-200/200ER/300, the weight penalty offset the gains for those particular variants. A wingtip extension that is about 80% of the winglet’s height can accomplish nearly the same thing as a blended winglet. #Avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #KDFW #DFW #airport #igTexas #planespotting #airlines #Boeing #777 #American #AmericanAirlines #N752AN #instagramaviation #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #flight #AvGeeksAero #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge #AvGeekNation https://www.instagram.com/p/B7xT6P9hofg/?igshid=1tw35azozhsi7

As of February 2022, what is the world's largest twin-engine jet airliner?
Tumblr media
The Boeing 777 are the world's largest twin-engine jet airliner. They are often called the 'Triple Seven' and can carry up to 368 passengers. The first 777 model (777-200) entered service in 1995 and all subsequent models have increased in size. As of February 2022, the largest is the 777 X, which had its first flight in 2020 but will not be officially introduced until 2024.
A twin-engine jet airliner is an airplane with two large engines. They are more fuel-efficient than planes with several single engines and can function with one engine if necessary.
The 777X has longer wings than its predecessors with folding wingtips. It is the first aircraft to have 'Wingtip Controls' inside the cockpit. Since 2013, airlines have been putting in orders for the much-anticipated 777X. As of January 2022, 334 have been ordered. Lufthansa was the first airline to request the model, followed by Etihad Airways, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Qatar Airways, All Nippon Airways, Singapore Airlines and British Airways.
More than 60 airlines use at least one version of the Boeing 777. Emirates Airlines has the most, with around 100 in service and on order. Other airlines that operate a lot of 777s include United Airlines, Air France, and American Airlines.

Airlines worldwide rush to change flights over US 5G problem (AP) Airlines across the world, including the long-haul carrier Emirates, rushed Wednesday to cancel or change flights heading into the U.S. over an ongoing dispute about the rollout of 5G mobile phone technology near American airports. The issue appeared to particularly impact the Boeing 777, a long-range, wide-body aircraft used by carriers worldwide—especially Emirates. Two Japanese airlines directly named the aircraft as being particularly affected by the 5G signals as they announced cancellations and changes to their schedules. The cancellations come even after mobile phone carriers AT&T and Verizon said they will postpone new wireless service near some U.S. airports planned for this week. The FAA has cleared a number of aircraft to fly into airports with the 5G signals, but missing from the list is the Boeing 777.
Majority of US states pursue nuclear power for emission cuts (AP) As climate change pushes states in the U.S. to dramatically cut their use of fossil fuels, many are coming to the conclusion that solar, wind and other renewable power sources might not be enough to keep the lights on. Nuclear power is emerging as an answer to fill the gap as states transition away from coal, oil and natural gas to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and stave off the worst effects of a warming planet. The renewed interest in nuclear comes as companies, including one started by Microsoft founder Bill Gates, are developing smaller, cheaper reactors that could supplement the power grid in communities across the U.S. Nuclear power comes with its own set of potential problems, especially radioactive waste that can remain dangerous for thousands of years.
Ingrid Betancourt, held by FARC rebels for more than six years, announces run for Colombia president (Washington Post) Ingrid Betancourt, a politician who was held captive by Colombia’s largest guerrilla group for more than six years, announced Tuesday that she will compete in the presidential election this year. The last time Betancourt ran for president, in 2002, she was kidnapped by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, and held hostage in the jungle. She became one of the highest-profile captives during the country’s 52-year conflict with the FARC. And despite the horrors she endured—at times being deprived of food and chained by the neck—Betancourt supported Colombia’s 2016 peace deal with the FARC. On Tuesday, she launched a second bid for the presidency, billing herself as a centrist focused on tackling corruption and unemployment in a country where historic protests over inequality erupted last year.
UK PM Johnson faces growing pressure to resign (Reuters) British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was fighting to shore up his premiership on Wednesday amid a revolt by his own lawmakers who are angry over a series of lockdown parties in Downing Street. Propelled into the top job to “get Brexit done”, Johnson in 2019 won his party’s biggest majority in more than 30 years but now faces calls to resign after a series of revelations about parties in Downing Street—the prime ministers’ home and office—during COVID lockdowns. Toppling Johnson would leave the United Kingdom in limbo for months just as the West deals with the Ukraine crisis and the world’s fifth largest economy grapples with the inflationary wave triggered by the COVID pandemic, with UK inflation rising to the highest level in nearly 30 years.
US boosts military aid to Ukraine as Russia tensions soar (AP) As U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken visits Ukraine, the Biden administration said Wednesday it’s providing an additional $200 million in defensive military aid to the country amid soaring fears of a Russian invasion. The announcement came as Blinken opened a hastily arranged visit to Kyiv as he and other administration officials step up warnings about a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine. The White House said Tuesday that Russia could at any point launch an attack in Ukraine. Russia has rejected the U.S. allegations that it’s preparing a pretext to invade Ukraine. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov dismissed the U.S. claim as “total disinformation.”
Olympic security concerns (Foreign Policy) When thousands of athletes arrive in Beijing for the Winter Olympics in February, they will be required to download MY2022, an app that tracks COVID-19 test results, health data, and travel information. But the app may have major security flaws: According to Citizen Lab, a cybersecurity watchdog, the mobile app contains encryption vulnerabilities that leave users’ personal data largely unprotected from hackers. Several governments have now reportedly advised athletes to leave their phones at home, while the cybersecurity firm Internet 2.0 has recommended that all attendees bring burner phones.
China’s Growing Menace Hardens Taiwan’s Identity (NYT) When Li Yuan-hsin, a 36-year-old high school teacher, travels abroad, people often assume she is Chinese. No, she tells them. She is Taiwanese. To her, the distinction is important. China may be the land of her ancestors, but Taiwan is where she was born and raised, a home she defines as much by its verdant mountains and bustling night markets as by its robust democracy. Well over 90 percent of Taiwan’s people trace their roots to mainland China, but more than ever, they are embracing an identity that is distinct from that of their Communist-ruled neighbor. Beijing’s strident authoritarianism—and its claim over Taiwan—has only solidified the island’s identity, now central to a dispute that has turned the Taiwan Strait into one of Asia’s biggest potential flash points. Most of Taiwan’s residents are not interested in becoming absorbed by a Communist-ruled China. But they are not pushing for formal independence for the island, either, preferring to avoid the risk of war. It leaves both sides at a dangerous impasse. The more entrenched Taiwan’s identity becomes, the more Beijing may feel compelled to intensify its military and diplomatic campaign to pressure the island into respecting its claim of sovereignty.
Japan widens COVID-19 curbs as Omicron drives record infections (Reuters) Japan on Wednesday widened COVID-19 curbs to the capital Tokyo and a dozen regions covering half the population as the Omicron variant of coronavirus drove record new infections. Already in effect in three regions, the measures, set to run from Friday until Feb. 13, were made official by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida after getting the sign-off from an expert panel earlier in the day. The quasi-emergency measures, as they are called, permit governors to limit mobility and business activities, by shortening the operating hours of bars and restaurants, and barring sales of alcohol. Japan has declared states of emergency four times during the pandemic, and vaccinated about 80% of its population of 126 million.
Indonesia passes law to move capital from Jakarta to Borneo (Washington Post) After decades of mulling the matter, Indonesia’s government has passed a law marking its most tangible step yet toward moving the capital from Jakarta to an undeveloped jungle tract in East Kalimantan, Borneo. The bill approved Tuesday by the House of Representatives provides the legal framework for the relocation. The new capital is to be named Nusantara, a Javanese word for archipelago, reflecting Indonesia’s geography. Indonesian President Joko Widodo announced the move in 2019, but some analysts have adopted a wait-and-see attitude, as the endeavor would be mammoth and require substantial political will. The project is slated to cost $32 billion. Jakarta, one of the world’s largest megacities, is straining under the weight of exponential growth, congestion and pollution. It is one of the world’s fastest-sinking cities. Several Indonesian presidents have offered capital relocation plans, but none made it as far as this one.
NASA scientists estimate Tonga blast at 10 megatons (NPR) NASA researchers have an estimate of the power of a massive volcanic eruption that took place on Saturday near the island nation of Tonga. “We come up with a number that’s around 10 megatons of TNT equivalent,” James Garvin, the chief scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, told NPR. That means the explosive force was more than 500 times as powerful as the nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, at the end of World War II. The blast was heard as far away as Alaska and was probably one of the loudest events to occur on Earth in over a century, according to Michael Poland, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey.
Israeli police accused of using Pegasus spyware on domestic opponents of Netanyahu (Washington Post) Israeli police have used NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware to remotely access, control and extract information from cellphones belonging to Israeli citizens, including leaders of a protest movement against former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to an investigation published Tuesday in the Israeli outlet Calcalist. The military-grade software developed by the private Israeli company NSO was also used to target a number of people who were not suspected of involvement in a crime, including mayors, former government employees and at least one person close to a senior politician, according to the report. Israeli police denied the allegations.
More than a dozen killed in airstrikes on Yemeni capital in retaliation for Houthi attack on UAE (Washington Post) The Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis launched two airstrikes on the Yemeni capital, after the Houthis claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on the UAE. The airstrikes leveled the two-story family home of Brig. Gen. Abdullah Qassem al-Junaid—who once led the air force academy in Sanaa—killing Junaid, his wife, Enas, his son Majed and at least five other members of his household, including guards and a maid. Several homes nearby were also damaged, and four neighbors, including a doctor, were among those killed. The strike was described by Saudi media as a blow against the Houthi command structure after the movement’s brazen strike on the UAE earlier that day. But for many of the people in the rubble of the shattered buildings, it was just another day of lives lost in the grinding proxy war tearing the country apart and creating one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
Road deaths (Worldcrunch) Last Tuesday afternoon, 20 ambulances were racing from all directions toward a highway tunnel in the province of Tolima, in central Colombia. A chain collision had left a mangled scene of death and wreckage after a truck had lost control, causing 15 vehicles including several freight trucks to crash. The pile-up left 8 dead and 33 people wounded, Colombian daily El Tiempo reports. It was a brutal start to 2022 for the South American nation, but follows a pattern from last year: While fatalities from traffic accidents fell every year between 2018 and 2020, a major road safety organization reports that already by the end of October, the year 2021 was set to become Colombia’s bloodiest in two decades, with 5,900 road deaths reported. According to El Espectador, ignoring traffic signs was the main reason, followed by speeding and driving under the influence.      However, Colombia isn’t the only country that has seen a recent surge in traffic accidents. In the U.S., 38,680 road fatalities were recorded in 2020, the highest since 2007—despite the pandemic lockdowns and travel restrictions that dramatically reduced driving. The pandemic has amplified many of the main behaviors that lead to accidents. For example, speeding or talking on the phone while driving is reported to have increased in countries around the world during lockdowns, including in Australia, Denmark, Belgium and the UK. In the U.S., the percentage of injured road users with alcohol, marijuana or opioids in their system all increased during the pandemic’s first year.
