The reason I liked Young Royals so much was because it set itself up to be another Netflix over-dramatic glorified teen sex show and at every single turn went out of its way to NOT be that

The moment I realized that it was going to be genuinely good was the first Felice/Wilhelm kiss. I expected there to be a big event around it, for simon to see it or someone else to talk about it but they didn’t. I was actually shocked but so happy because they were clearly trying to make the show as down to earth as they could with the plot they had to work with. And when someone did see them in the 2nd season it was resolved almost immediately. Whatever misunderstandings there were got resolved quickly and the characters all talked about it and made sure it wasn’t going to be an issue. (also gave us the funniest moment in the show aka simon trying to beat wille w a dodgeball) At it’s core Young Royals is good because it has good characters and the plot, while important, relies more on the characters themselves being authentic people who you simply want to see more of. That is VERY unusual for a netflix show of this type but was so lovely that it turned out the way it did

Do you think our boys stand strong chances at Swedish QX Gaygala?

I think they should absolutely win the best duo again, especially after the Tonight show, but I'm not sure about other nominations. For the best drama they compete with <3🛑per, and for personal nominations... I don't like the fact they are both nominated. I have thoughts about who deserves it more but I don't see it coming, tbh. Your thoughts?

and i genuinely have no idea! i am not swedish so i don’t think i have a great grasp on how the gala works and usually goes!

after this year, i wanna be like yeah they’ve got this and really optimistic but bc i don’t know how it works i cant really be sure. i don’t know if they were up against hs last time? and last time they were both up individually in the same category as well and neither won.

i definitely can see them winning best duo again and they should because no one is doing it like them. i really really hope they win best tv program again as well (that’s what they won last time too, right?) oops idk for sure iM NOT SWEDISH but listen i do love heartstopper but even with the things i disliked about YR S2 it’s still on another level and an incredible queer drama so they deserve it.

as for individual nominations, i’m begging, begging for omar to win. i LOVE them both, and people weren’t surprised this year when they lost bc of whoever else was nominated (?) so idk if it’s the same this time around but i need omar to win for the incredible work he’s done as simon. of course i would also be ecstatic if edvin won, he’s truly a phenomenal actor & his portrayal of wille is absolutely amazing. but edvin is always going to be praised more than omar, omar is always going to be pushed to the background consciously or unconsciously and i really really want him to be awarded and celebrated for how he brought simon to life bc he literally makes my jaw drop and my heart stop. his first acting job. he is a STAR. i’ve never loved a character like i love simon (and i also love wille) and was so excited by his story and how they portray being gay and queerness in YR and i’m just so proud of omar i need him to really be recognized and given the praise he deserves for his portrayal, for what it means to the fans and what he & simon mean to the LGBTQ+ community. (is it gonna actually happen tho,,,,i think we’re on the same wavelength there) (but like i said i’d still be very happy if edvin won they are BOTH deserving and it’s normal that they’re in the same category. i promise they’re both probably very happy about it and proud of each other and will be supporting each other no matter which of them wins if they do).

if i’ve gotten something really wrong about this i apologize but i’m pretty sure that’s like the basics & ideas behind the nominations??

4. Movie of the year: Ok so, I really don’t watch a lot of movies, I’m more a tv shows person + pls consider my memory is not very good. With that been said, one of the movies I enjoyed most this year was ELVIS by Baz Luhrmann. It introduced me into the Elvis universe and I really appreciate that. I also cried a lot with Lightyear and Red bcs #childhood.

5. Tv show of the year: I can’t really decide just one in this question, but for the impact, importance and great representation of the aro and ace life/spectrum/everything I choose... KOISENU FUTARI. I’m not joking when I say this is one of the best series I’ve ever watched in my entire life and everyone should see it!! It has the power to change and save lifes! I really love love love everything abt this series. In the other side, I enjoyed a lot my beautiful Heartstopper, Young Royals S2 and of course Our Flag Means Death! Because Gay Pirates!!!

7. Actor of the year: So... once again haha I can’t decide, but! I want to talk abt JOE LOCKE. I find what he has achieved thanks to Heartstopper in this year, not only in his career as an actor but also always mentioning and taking care of his hometown (Isle of Man) and the LGBTQIA+ community, very plausible. I respect and admire what he has done since he’s in the spotlight, he seems like a really cute soul. I also have to mention the loves of my life, my cute little Wilmon, the reason of my breakdowns: my dearest Omar Rudberg and Edvin Ryding. How Edmar have been growing up since YR realized last year is really really really crazy. I can’t be more proud of them... They made a incredible S2 and now the world is starting to recognize their potential more. I mean a few days ago they were in Fallonnnn?!?!?!! Edmar will conquer the world and no one can stop it!

okay so, and i hope this question doesn't come across as acussing or rude or anything, but isak's actor was 17 when s3 was on , and in young royals willhelm's actor was 17 as well, so i am just wondering what's the difference between that, and barcode being 17 in kinnporsche? like i genuinely don't understand. i ask because i have seen people condem kinnposche bc of barcode being 17 but then loved skam and young royals and they shipped evak and simon/willhelm? idk pls i hope you don't think this is rude, i am genuinely confused

Don't worry it's not rude and is honestly a very valid question! For Skam, I was around 19 at the time that season 3 came out so I didn't see the issue that presented itself, I just thought it was a good story. For Young Royals, I actually had no idea that Edvin was 17 at the time of filming and it doesn't take away from it being a good story but I probably would have felt the same as I do about KP had I known. Like I insinuated in my last post, I like Young Royals but I wouldn't consider myself a fan.

My issue is solely a personal one and is probably very western in its mentality. I don't have an issue with Barcode being in the show and I respect the fact that he is of the age of consent in Thailand and that he and his people have actively made the decision to take part in this show knowing what this story is and entails (just like Tarjei and Edvin), but I am still not comfortable actively shipping him in a "relationship" with someone who is basically my age and is almost 10 years older than him.

So I guess my real issue is just the shipping aspect of it and knowing how bad and gross that can get 🤷🏾‍♀️ the fact that he's still a minor and even at 17 would be unable to really consent to a relationship with this big a gap most places here in the US is also a factor at play in how I look at it.

If none of these "issues" that I personally have bother you, then that's okay! Don't mind anyone else and what they have to say about it. Just enjoy the show as is and block whoever you have to in order to make your experience here better. I just want to remind everyone that the whole purpose of fandom is to have fun and very little should get in the way of that. As long as Barcode is being treated respectfully and not pressured into anything, then the issues we have are minor at best (ya see what I did there 👀😏)
