Lucy: Did you get my report on the Finley m*rder?
Jane: Yeah, I looked it over. Nice work!
Lucy: Good. Thanks, mom (looks around when realize everyone is silent) Why is everyone staring at me?
Ernie: You just called Tennant "mom"
Kai: You said, "thanks, mom"
Lucy: What? No, I didn't. I said, "thanks, ma'am"
Jane: Do you see me as a mother figure, Agent Tara?
Lucy: No. If anything, I see you as a "bother" figure, 'cause you're always bothering me
Jesse: Hey, show your mother some respect.

Brian Dietzen knew helping to write the “NCIS” tribute to David McCallum would be the best way to honor his longtime scene partner’s memory — that it would help him process his real-life grief was an added bonus.
The actor co-wrote the emotional hour of the CBS crime procedural alongside Scott Williams, chronicling the team’s loss of the beloved Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard. The storyline echoed reality as McCallum, who played the role of Ducky since Season 1, died peacefully in his sleep on Sept. 25, 2023. He was 90.
“I’ve lost a few people in my life, but never have I sat down and written a script or a story about them in the weeks following their departure. It was very odd… but helpful in a way,” Dietzen told TheWrap in an interview ahead of the episode’s debut on Monday. “A lot of the grief of losing a friend is softened by the fact that he’s a 90-year-old man who lived so much life.”
Dietzen recalled feeling honored when asked to help craft the farewell installment, a tall task to properly celebrate the beloved medical examiner-turned-NCIS historian, along with a real-life Hollywood legend. The episode, titled “The Stories We Leave Behind,” opened with Jimmy (Dietzen) arriving at his friend’s home in the morning to discuss a break on a case he was working on, only to find Ducky had died in his sleep.
“That was the toughest day that I had as an actor,” Dietzen said. “It took a village to put this together. I always felt like we were all in this together. That felt like the first time during the whole process where it was just me and David. That really hit me hard, I was a blubbering mess.”
Tumblr media
“Every idea under the sun was thrown out [for this episode.] From having every ‘NCIS’ cast member from every spin-off come together in a huge funeral theme… nothing was off the table,” Dietzen said. “Those things can be very logistically difficult obviously, but we wanted to do something special… Michael said he would absolutely love to come and reprise his role as Tony.”
Dietzen noted how none of the old clips that played during the episode featured Tony, an Easter egg of sorts for his present-day cameo. He also said that Mark Harmon had been in talks to reprise his role as Gibbs, but was ultimately not available due to a scheduling conflict.
“I think everyone would love to see Gibbs make an appearance at some point. That is such a beloved character, TV history,” he said. “I’m really happy with the way [the scene] turned out. The way that it works with Jimmy and Tony. There’s an intimacy to that and there’s a familiarity to that.”
Dietzen further explained the specific choice of revisiting Ducky’s Season 19 speech during the episode, in which he reflected on letting Gibbs go after Harmon’s exit from the series.
“[Jimmy] is mourning the team’s loss of Gibbs and before that Bishop (Emily Wickersham) and before that the death of his own wife. But Ducky comforts him by saying, ‘Our pain is a small price to pay for his peace,’” Dietzen recalled. “I wanted that to be the last thing that we hear Ducky say in this episode, so he can seemingly eulogize himself, in a way. That was one [moment] that I felt strongly about and that stayed in the whole time.”

Just Friends - Pt 6
Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin x F!Reader
Warnings: Angst, Past Trauma, Harassment, Threats, Violence, Gun Fire
Summary: No matter how many times Hangman and yourself told the others you were just friends they were not buying it.  But maybe the past coming back to haunt you will be what is needed to for you both to admit to your feelings.
Notes:  Hope you are enjoying this, last part hopefully coming soon.
Tumblr media
Before Jake could throw himself at the man with the only thought of ripping him apart more shots rang out and Melson fell to the side his gun clattering to the floor beside him. Jake turned his head slowly to be faced by three NCIS agents, weapons raised, but his focus was on you leaning to one side with a weapon still pointing at Melson.
“Y/N/N, I thought….’
Groaning you lowered your weapon and reached your hand down to your side to lift your shirt,
“Vest…”
Jake looked down and could see the bullet lodged in the edge of the vest you were wearing under your shirt. Exhaling he covered his face with his hands and slumped to next to you.
“You’re wearing a vest”
“Of course”
“I didn’t know I just saw you get hit, I thought…”
“Y/N/N you ok there”
“Good boss, vest took the hit, is Rooster ok?”
“Head hurts like hell but I’m good”
Looking over you saw Rooster sitting up rubbing his head, you nodded quietly as you looked across at Melson’s lifeless form and let out a breath.  Turning to look at Jake who was still sat on the floor next to you.
“You ok, he didn’t hurt you, did he?”
He just stared at you, he knew what you did for a living but this was the first time he had seen it up close and to be honest he felt far from ok right now.
“Y/N/N you two go home, let us deal with this”
“Boss are you sure?”
“Its over Y/N/N, go check on your friend and go home, I’ll see you Monday”
Jake stood up and pulled you up too, he was still staring at you but managed to finally find his voice,
“I need to speak to Mav, I take it the grounding earlier was because of him”
“I had to call in a favour from Mav, Melson rang me and was talking about aircraft falling out of the sky, I couldn’t risk it”
“You can call in favours from Mav?”
“Always, Hangman take her home your stood down until Monday, you too Rooster once you have had a medic check you out”
“You sure Mav?”
“Well, all the jets need checking out so squadron is going to be grounded for the rest of the week”
“Roger that”
Mav walked across and enveloped you in a hug,
“This was the least I could do Y/N/N for getting it so wrong the first time, I am so sorry”
“Mav you couldn’t have known what he was like, no one did and when I told you, you had my back”
“Always”
You went and crouched down next to Rooster,
“I’m so sorry, you shouldn’t have got hurt because of me?”
“Don’t apologise, this is nothing, I’m just happy it is finally over for you”
“Good job it was only your head”
“Thanks Hangman”
The car ride back to Jake’s was done in silence, both of you trying to process what had just happened.  You felt guilty, Rooster had got hurt, Jake nearly got shot and the whole squadron was grounded.  It was all your fault that everyone had been dragged into this and you could tell it had shaken Jake, of course it would, you did this for a living, but he shouldn’t have had to be in the middle of it.  But at least now it was over, properly over and everyone was safe, Jake was safe.
As you pushed the door open you let out a groan, you had to check out where you had been hit, you didn’t think there was any real damage but there was going to be a hell of a bruise.  You saw Jake’s head snap around as he heard your groan,
“Y/N/N are you sure you are alright?”
“Just need to get this vest off and check the damage” “Do we need to get you checked out by a medic?”
“No, it’s just going to bruise and hurt like hell for a bit”
You unbuttoned your shirt and shrugged it off with a hiss of pain, Jake came over and gently started unfastening your vest.  As he pulled it off, he gasped,
“Shit, that looks bad, are you sure you haven’t done any damage?”
You took in a deep breath as Jake’s fingers gently brushed your bruised skin,
“It’s ok, just bruising, the vest took the hit”
“Just, what would have happened if it had missed the vest?”
“It didn’t, I’m fine”
“You didn’t know that when you jumped in front of me, you shouldn’t have done that”
“I had to, what else could I have done?”
Jake turned away, you could see the tension in his shoulders and all you wanted to do was take him in your arms and tell him everything was alright now.
“Look are you going to be ok here on your own for a bit I just need to get some air, I won’t be long” “I’ll be fine, but Jake….”
You watched him walk back out and close the door behind him and you felt yourself sag, you got it he need to clear his head it was a lot to deal with.  You went and took a shower, washing the day off your skin and trying to relieve some of the tightness in your muscles.  You busied yourself tiding up the kitchen, switched the tv on, just tried not to worry about Jake or think about the day.  But when he was still not back after a couple of hours you were starting to worry, picking up your phone you rang Rooster.
“Hey, how are you feeling?”
“Hell of a headache but I’ll live.  How are you?”
“Worried about Jake, he went out a couple of hours ago for some air and hasn’t come back”
“Y/N/N it was a lot today, he nearly got shot and he thought you had been, he thought he had lost you and he watched you shoot a man”
“I had a vest on, it was ok”
“Y/N/N he thought he had lost you”
“I heard you the first time but…..”
“Y/N/N he thought he saw the woman he loves die today in front of him”
“What, he what.. Rooster you’re wrong he just sees me as a friend”
“Y/N/N stop it, you both need to stop it and after today you need to be honest with each other, stop wasting time.  If today should have taught you two anything, it is that life is too short to be scared of being honest with each other”
“I don’t know where he is”
“Stay where you are. I think I know where to find him”
Rooster pulled the truck into the car park at the Hard Deck, it was early, and the bar was empty apart from Hangman sat at the bar and Penny behind it.  He slid onto the stool next to him and motioned to Penny for a drink.
“What are you doing here Rooster?”
“Wanted to make sure you are all right”
“Try again”
“Ok Y/N/N called me she is worried about you, talk to me”
Jake hung his head down over his arms on the bar, Rooster could hardly hear him when he whispered
“I thought she was dead, I thought I had lost her”
“I know, but you didn’t” “She took a bullet for me, she actually took a bullet for me”
“And now she is waiting at your place worrying about you and you are here, why?”
“That feeling of thinking I had lost her, I can’t feel that again” “So what you are just going to cut her out of your life in case anything happens.  You know it’s no different for her every time you fly a mission, she could lose either of us at any time.  You being scared is not good enough reason, you need to be better for her”
“That knock on the head banged some sense into you”
“If you love her as much as I think you do, stop moping here, step up and go home and tell her how you feel”
“I just need her to get past today, I don’t want to rush her”
“Hangman, just go home and talk to her, it is not your call to make and right now she just at home worrying about you”
You were pacing up and down in front of the couch, you had heard nothing from Rooster and every bad thought you could conjure up was spinning through your mind.  You grabbed your phone to call him again when you heard the front door open.  You stopped your pacing and looked over at Jake, you couldn’t read his face and it scared you.
“I’m so sorry about everything, I dragged you into this and I shouldn’t have.  I’m going to leave, go back home and get out of your way”
You turned to go and grab your things from the bedroom and you froze as you heard a quiet sob, spinning you looked back at Jake and saw tears in his eyes.  Without thinking you flew across the room as he fell to his knees, pulling him into your arms as he slumped against you.
“I’m so sorry, please Jake”
You held him and stroked his hair as he sobbed in your arms,
“It is not your fault, but god Y/N/N I thought you were dead.  When I saw that bullet hit you and……”
“I’m ok, I’m here, I’m safe”
He looked up at you, his eyes damp and bloodshot, your heart was breaking watching him like this.  You had done this to him and right now you just wanted to make it better.  Pressing a kiss to his forehead you held him until he stopped.  How could you ever think he would want you after all you had done, what you had put him through.  All you could do was be here for him, so gently pulling him up you led him through to the bedroom, silently you both crawled under the covers and wrapped yourselves around each other.
You woke up the next morning alone in bed and you felt your stomach drop, padding quietly out to the kitchen you looked for Jake.  As you realised that he was not there your anxiety started to rise until you saw a note on the kitchen table,
“Gone for a run - J”
Your heart sank, you just wanted to talk to him, tell him how sorry you were and that he didn’t need to be embarrassed about last night.  Hopefully a run would clear his head and then maybe you could get back to normal.  Making coffee you got dressed and thought about what you wanted to do, you could sit her and wait for Jake to come back or you could go and clear your head too.  Grabbing your phone you called Rooster,
“Morning, fancy a trip to the beach”
“Let me guess Y/N/N are you craving a swim and need a lift”
“Don’t think it would go down well if I borrowed Jake’s truck”
“He’s not there with you?”
“He’s gone out for a run, think he needs to clear his head”
“I’ll be with you in ten, just don’t expect me to go in that cold water with you”
“Deal”
Jake’s heart beat faster and his legs burnt as he pushed himself the last half mile back to his place, he felt bad about leaving before you were awake, but he needed to think.  He had never broken down like he had last night, let alone in front of anyone and he had done it in front of you.  You must be thinking he was so weak, he was meant to be being strong for you right now, not crying on your shoulder.  As he kicked off his trainers and opened the door he could feel that you were not there and his stomach lurched.  Grabbing his phone he dialled,
“Rooster, why are you answering Y/N/N’s phone, she’s not here please tell me she is with you?”
“Calm down, she’s with me I gave her a lift to the beach, she is in the water she said she left you a note”
Looking over to the kitchen table where he left his note he say your writing on the bottom,
“Gone for a swim”
“We are at the same beach we were last weekend, come down”
As he got into his truck he thought back to last weekend and how it seemed like a lifetime away.  You in that blue swimsuit laughing and messing around with him in the water.  His heart ached as he thought about it.   Parking his truck he spotted Rooster stood on the beach and made his way over.
“Is she ok in there, some of those waves are pretty big” “She’s fine, been doing this for years, her way of resetting.  How about you, how are you doing”
“Pretty crazy day yesterday, watching a man begin shot in front of you even if he was a bastard is a bit different to shooting a faceless enemy out of the sky”
“Let alone you thinking you had lost her, I take it you still haven’t spoken to her”
“I tried last night, got a bit emotional”
“Understandable, you know she will never judge you and it is ok to show feelings, it not a weakness”
“It is in my family”
“You going to wait until she comes out”
“I have a couple of things to do but how about we hit the Hard Deck once you are done, think we could all do with it”
“Your right, you do what you need to do and we’ll meet you there”
As you sat in the front of Rooster’s truck you looked over it him, he looked ok after yesterday apart from the bruise on his temple which was starting to fade.   You felt so much better after your swim and he had taken you back to yours for a shower and a few things.  The only thing was you had still not seen Jake, but you were on the way to the Hard Deck to meet him.
“Your staring Y/N/N”
“Making sure that knock on the head hasn’t’ effected your brain”
“Why, because I said Hangman is in love with you”
“Sounds pretty crazy to me”
“Y/N/N you can’t be that naive, especially after what has just happened, you both deserve to be happy and I just can’t understand why you can’t admit it to each other”
“After what I put him through, he can’t feel the same way.  He was so upset last night, I’ve never seen him like that and he hasn’t spoken to me since.”
“He’s embarrassed, you know he doesn’t do feelings, show emotions.  But you deserve to be happy, Melson is gone and he is never going to hurt you again, it is time to start moving forward”
“And I don’t know if I can, I haven’t been with anyone since before Melson”
“You have to try and if it going to be with anyone it is going to Hangman”
“Can we  just get so drunk tonight that I don’t have to think about it for now”
“Really you think that will help”
“Tequila makes everything better”
Rooster sighed and pulled his truck into the car park of the Hard Deck, maybe he could just bang your heads together tonight.
As soon as you both entered the Hard Deck you scanned the room for Jake, you spotted the rest of the pilots over by the pool table, Jake was there playing with Payback.  As you stood at the bar waiting to help Rooster you watched him leaning on his pool cue heckling as Payback took his shot and you smiled to yourself, he looked happy, like his old self.  Jake looked over and the smile that he shot at you lifted your heart, maybe it was going to be alright.  What if Rooster was right, maybe he did have feelings for you, even after all that had happened and maybe for the first time in years you were ready.   As you waited for the drinks you kept watching and saw a tall brunette walk over to Jake, so beautiful, so confident, You watched as she placed her hand on his arm and leant to whisper in his ear and you felt your stomach drop, of course he didn’t have feelings for you, right there was the sort of woman he should be with.  You suddenly felt tears pricking your eyes and your breath catching in your throat as you realised how much you wanted him, how much you were in love with him.  You needed fresh air, you need to get out of here, so you didn’t have to watch this, to watch him smiling at another woman, flirting with another woman.  Downing the shot of Tequila Rooster had put in front of you, you bolted for the door and didn’t stop to look back.  Rooster saw you down your shot and bolt, confused he looked over to where you had been looking.  As he did he saw Hangman giving a leggy brunette the brush off, she was all over him and he was doing his best to extract himself from the situation, but Y/N/N hadn’t seen him turning her down, just the beautiful woman coming on to him.

Ramblings
Sunday
3:15. The silence is nice. I can talk to Allah swt and I feel safe at this moment. The stillness of the night isn't stifling. I don't turn on the fan even though it's hot. I like the silence. My thoughts are quite too
7:10. I don't want to get up but I've already jumped off the bed. Need to get breakfast ready. Need to take medicine. Need to hurry hurry hurry.
9:15. Panic and dread.
11:50. Relief. Exhaustion.
2:42. I had this really intense need to be talking about it with Saadia. Can't call her cos she's probably sleeping. And this urge might become less and then I'll make excuses to myself to not call her. But I wish we were exhausted and lying in her room ranting. Or maybe not even that. Just being quiet. She'd be watching something stupid like NCIS or suits or something and I’d be squished in her giant beanbag (territory Id claimed long ago) I remember the neck ache I got when Id been squished in it too long. Her mom would poke her head in and shake her head at us and bring us pasta. Or chicken bread! Man, I miss that chicken bread. The squishy peices of corn that would pop in your mouth and the hot buttery peppery chicken.
She knows me inside out. I don't want to burden her right now. She can't do anything about it being so far away.
I'm happy, reminiscing while writing about her, and it hasn't made me sad, in a surprising turn of events. I think my circuitry is messed up. But happy accidental serotonin is still serotonin and I'm grateful.
Monday
Didn't write the whole day. Brain feels like a fog. No emotions. I just need sleep.
Tuesday
9.:40. Stopped to have a conversation with a squirrel. It seemed interested, but then decided it didn't have the time. Squirrel business called. And I was late for class
9:43. Needed to make a call and that was it for the day. Cue the mind haze. All the emotions all at once. And none at the same time.
Music to shut out the thoughts. Helped a bit.
P realized something was up. As much as I felt cheery and awake at the end of the day, but she knew something was off. I couldn't put a finger on it til she said it. Despite trying trying to distract myself, I still felt like there is a pulling, scratching inside. I'm craving something and I don't know what it is. Bit it's like a dull sort of scratch, like the echo of a thing
Thursday
4:57. Missed fajr. Feel like shit. Had nightmares, woke up feeling more exhausted than when I slept. I haven't been able to dream for like five or six years. But nightmares are becoming a thing now.
8.25. Tried to wake up but the day already feels exhausting and I don't want to deal with it
9:20. Fell asleep and woke up in a panic. There's so much that needs to be done. I have so much work. How can anything feel exciting when there is always anxiety and panic that's flooding my brain.
9:55. My joy in realizing they've made eggs for breakfast today is fleeting. The eggs are burnt at the edges and dry. I still eat them, my mouth feels like what I imagine it must feel like to wake up from surgery, desperate for water. I'm being ungrateful and I dont like it. It's food. Why am I being like this?
Cant feel much today.
4:50. Decided to take a nap. Woke up in a panic again because I thought I'd slept for three hours instead of one. Body hurts and I don't want to get up. I'll procrastinate more and then the day is over and I've done nothing.
8:05. Feeling good. Found myself humming something. Surprised enough to want to write it down. I feel like I can get something done. Making tea, then getting down to work. I feel like I'm in flow. Hope this stays!
P.S. it didn't stay. Something happened and all sense of time and work and sanity was gone. (Writing this on Thursday)
Friday
I broke the streak today. I didn't want to write down anything the whole day so now I'm writing it at the end of the day. I woke up with a numbness in my body. Had nightmares again. It's getting both more difficult and easier to get up. I can't explain it.
There's this short stretch of trees lining the football field that blooms with these hanging yellow flowers that always snaps me back to the present and gives a couple of seconds of relief everyday. Today it just made me annoyed (there aren't any blooms but the walk usually is still pleasant) because I realized the absence of that relief and that is what jolted me out of my thoughts. Not the relief but the lack of it.
Everything felt off today. It's exhausting living with myself.
I came back and slept. I just want to sleep. Forced myself to eat. I can't work. I can't work. I can't work. I'm trying. I have class at 6am. I don't want to be. There's too much noise. Writing all these things down is making everything more concrete. It's the fig tree again. From Sylvia Plaths Bell Jar. But the roots shriveled up and wilted and the trunk is hollow too. No possibilities lying blackened at my feet. They are a distant memory, haunting  the air with a rotten smell.
(P.S. (writing this on Saturday: I feel disconnected reading what I wrote last night. I don't want to linger on it. That person was there. So was one who was not in that state. I feel like a conduit, in this moment, reading the previous entries, they feel like versions of me that exist and existed, a product of the things happening to me at the time)
Saturday
Today I felt disconnected, outside of my body. Woke up tired again but almost mechanically, went through the motions of getting up and getting through the day.
I'm relieved though. Beats yesterday in any case.
Saturday/Sunday:
(A summary): I did not open this up to write anything for the past two days because I was in a good place after a very long time. I passively tried to understand what triggered it but couldn't. Coming back to why I didn't write. Writing things down forces me to confront what's going on in my head and usually that untangles whatevers up there and when the thoughts become clear, they are usually not very pleasant. And so I wanted to live in denial for a little bit longer.
Sunday
9.09: Panic again. but dull. I have to work. There might be eggs.
11.06: Mediocrity scares me. I don't want to be a blob of nothingness. I have worlds inside of me, I have been so many me-s, they were all people with thoughts and emotions and intelligence. I feel like I have lost grip of so many of those versions of myself, and of the potential that they all had. Now everything I do feels like I am dragging myself through a thick sludge of effort, pushing pushing pushing. My head feels dull and more empty than it used to be.
The air feels thick. Dead, no crispness in it, just a lingering heat and smell of dead grass
Monday
4:40. Unraveling. The air is nice today, feels fresh and crisp. I can smell the freshly mowed grass of the football ground as a linger on my way back
5.:15. A summary of today: Flow state. I found myself quite unexpectedly in a state of flow, like everything was aligned and I was getting things done. Things seemed to be rolling off of me, I just kept working like nothing mattered and I actually felt happy with the work I made, and when I made something not so good, it didn't stop me. It felt like I side stepped a ditch that would have pulled me in, and I was just able to brush it off so easily and move on. I felt like a person. I felt complete. Like otherwise there's always echoes of me slightly lagging or moving ahead and I'm just trying to keep track of the pieces to move together and making the effort of carrying all the scrambling, falling, scattered pieces keeps me occupied
6:20. A word out of place. And it started this echo that kept reverberating and bouncing back and forth off the walls of my mind. And it shook everything out of place. Like a tiny tremor that upsets the precarious balance that had been a happy accident.
The crows and their noise just before maghrib remind me of Karachi and the breezy evening air, that smells like dust and sticks to your face on the sheen of oil covering your sticky skin at the end of a long day. The smell of gasoline and petrol heavy and clinging to your clothes, coming home with you
Tuesday
My thoughts are not my own. Not writing today.
Wednesday
I like this moment. Its the end of the day and I linger going back. My walk is deliberately slow and I focus and at the same time watch without seeing, the details of the accumulated dust on the sidewalk. The cars passing by seem slow and fast at the same time, their noise amplified for some reason. The sound is grating but I cant hear it even though everything feels heightened.

So hello on a Monday but I woke up that awful kinda sick where you can’t sleep but also don’t wanna do anything but watch tv so I started Rizzoli & Isles and I’m. Almost done with s1. But two things: 1) Boston cop shows feel DIFFERENT from NYC cop shows for some reason and 2) BRENDA STRONG GAY how was that episode like mildly offensive yet so fucking fun. Good vibes happy week to you - SMA
i actually don’t know if i’ve ever watched an nyc cop show purposely (like Law & Order is on 500000000 times a day obviously) but in my experience with Rookie Blue (Toronto) Rizzoli & Isles (Boston) and NCIS (DC) they all seem to feel like they’re not taking themselves quite as seriously as the NYC ones maybe? or like there’s a general sense of “and this is new york” that all the characters walk around exuding and it’s nice when that’s absent lol
absolutely thrilled that you’re watching it but also VERY sorry that you’re sick and i really hope you’re feeling better now since it’s taken me fucking ages to reply!!!!

Katrina Law is rooting for NCIS’ Jessica Knight and Jimmy Palmer to stick together, but she knows it won’t be easy.
“I think you might see some hurdles for them this season,” Law, 38, exclusively told Us Weekly while promoting NCIS’s 1,000th franchise episode, which aired on Monday, April 15. “It’s interesting because as much as Jess is still reeling and reacting from her React team [dying] … it still leaves an impact.”
The actress, who has played Special Agent Jessica Knight since 2021, explained that like “most people in real life,” Jessica has taken a “while to move on” from her former coworkers’ deaths. (During season 18, Jessica joined the NCIS team after an explosion killed her entire team.)
“While Jess has been dealing with her own issues, Jimmy has also been dealing with his own sense of loss,” Law told Us. “Between Gibbs and Ducky and Bishop and his wife. That’s a lot [of loss].”
Jessica and medical examiner Dr. Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) sparked an interoffice romance during season 20. Earlier this season, the pair hit a bump in the road when Jessica’s dad came to visit and pointed out that a relationship wasn’t in her initial plan to become a boss at NCIS.
While Jessica assured Jimmy during episode five, which aired in March, that she wanted to date him and was happy working in her current position, Law told Us that both of their past issues might continue to haunt them.
“It does become a question of did they jump in too fast, too furious? Is this the right time? Are they using each other as a crutch or is this a legitimate love story?” Law pointed out. “And if it is a legitimate love story, is this going to be a bump or a complete stopping point?”
She further explained that “it’ll be interesting to see how things go forward with them” as season 21 continues. “I think that’s how relationships grow is when you’re tested to see how you end up coming through on the other side,” Law added.
When it comes to what Law wants to see play out on screen, she has mixed emotions about Jessica and Jimmy.
“Brian Dietzen is a wonderful acting partner, and we have so much fun working together. So the thought of not being able to have as many scenes with him is heartbreaking,” Law said, referring to the possibility of Jessica and Jimmy breaking up.
Law noted that both she and Dietzen, 46, are “constantly fighting for this relationship in one aspect or another.”
However, Law is aware that Jessica and Jimmy might not be endgame, despite fans’ cry for them to live happily ever after. (Viewers have fondly dubbed the relationship “Knight in Shining Palmer.”)
“I want what’s best for the characters each individually in the long run. And we don’t know what that is yet,” she continued. “And I think that’s going to be the fun of exploring through the next thousand episodes of NCIS.”

Parent, Trapped: NCIS' Brian Dietzen Talks About Writing Father/Daughter Drama, Hints at 'Big Events' to Come
By Matt Webb Mitovich / February 24 2022, 4:11 PM PST
This Monday on NCIS, “Take Your Child to Work Day” takes a terrible turn when accidental exposure to a deadly biotoxin puts a literal barrier between Jimmy Palmer and his daughter Victoria.
Brian Dietzen –Jimmy’s longtime portrayer and the co-writer of the episode airing this Monday at 9/8c — shared with TVLine a preview of Jimmy’s quarantine crisis, poor Victoria’s fear of losing a second parent, and more.
BRIAN DIETZEN | How are you, man? It’s been a long time.
TVLINE | I know. I think the last time we spoke, Jimmy was stuck out on a ledge.
Yeah! That was [filmed in] 2016, I remember, because we did that show and then that week the Cubs won the World Series. I’m a huge Cubs fan, so I was like, “What a great week I’m having!”
TVLINE | It sounds like we’re not bringing young Victoria Palmer (played by Elle Graper) back under the best of circumstances….
No, no…. You know what? I take that back. We’re bringing her back because she’s going to come to work with her dad for a day! And so, the circumstances under which she comes back are not all that awful. But the things that happen afterwards, as they wont to do in NCIS universe, get a little trickier than was initially proposed.
TVLINE | What all happens? Jimmy and Kasie (Diona Reasonover) get exposed to some sort of biotoxin…?
As you know, Kasie and Jimmy examine all the evidence and bodies and whatnot found at crime scenes. And as they do that this episode, they are exposed and it’s basically left to their team to help them out of this situation. There’s really no way of getting clean of this thing, and that created an awesome opportunity for us to bring back the amazing Meredith Eaton, who in the past has played Carol Wilson, a famous [CDC] epidemiologist. She was not available to come play with us at all for the last five years or six years [because of MacGyver], but so now she is and we are more than happy to have her back. She’s so damn talented and such a good person.
TVLINE | Of course, no one on NCIS is ever really left unable to do anything. What do Jimmy and Kasie manage to accomplish towards their own cause?
Well, locked inside of the forensic laboratory you have two people that are fairly smart and they’re surrounded by all of these different test tubes and chemicals and whatnot, so you can imagine they’re trying to put together any sort of concoction or cure that they can. Whether or not that’s successful will remain to be seen, but they’re trying to save their own bacon. And in the meantime, Jimmy’s daughter is looking on and hoping that she doesn’t lose two parents in the course of a year-and-a-half.
TVLINE | Speaking of Breena (played in the past by Michelle Pierce), during this ordeal might we hear Jimmy speak of losing his wife in a way that he hasn’t quite done so during the past year?
I think that it’s natural when you hit a near-death — spoiler: I’m still doing the show — that you start thinking about people who have gone before. He’s left with his daughter who means more to him than anything, especially since it’s just the two of them, so Breena definitely does play into that quite a bit.
Tumblr media
She was lost to COVID and we didn’t see her [during that ordeal], so there’s definitely going to be a lot coming up for Jimmy, and a lot of it’s going to be going in his subconscious. And a lot that he works out and talks about with his daughter, and with Kasie as well. I’m glad you brought that up because it’s a big, important thing for Jimmy. So many people have lost friends, loved ones to this awful pandemic, and we did this huge time jump in the middle of our [previous] season, and instead of having some teary-eyed bedside goodbye, which no one was able to do at the time [because of COVID measures], they said, “We’ll just have him say goodbye months and months afterwards,” which was hard. Oh my gosh, that’s a difficult thing.
TVLINE | What sort of tricks does Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) have up his sleeve to keep Victoria’s mind off of the prospect of losing another parent?
Honestly, that’s like one of my favorite parts of the whole show, the fact that Wilmer just kind of knocks it out of the park in this episode. It’s funny, because he was like, “Damn, I didn’t feel like I was doing like a whole hell of a lot.” But I had just sat in on our cut, so I said, “No, your presence there of just being this kind of uncle figure to her and holding her hand through this whole thing, distracting her, keeping her mind at ease, is so important.” Wil just does an amazing job at it, with his presence within it. There are a couple of moments that definitely got me, you know? Where I’m thinking, “Wow. I co-wrote this thing and you’re still getting me, man. That’s great.”
Tumblr media
TVLINE | The title of this episode is “The Helpers.” Is that a reference to the famous Mister Rogers quote?
It is, yes. But I won’t say anything beyond that. But this is definitely something that Jimmy has wanted to do, look towards people who are going to help one another.
TVLINE | As the co-writer of this episode (with executive producer Scott Williams), who would you say it most gets a chance to shed light on?
Honestly, this is going to sound like such a cop-out, so I apologize in advance. I already mentioned Torres, because in the last episode he was in the middle of an underground fighting ring and he has some real demons about, “Do I have a family anymore?” With the departure of his biological father, as well as his work father/mentor in Gibbs, and of course losing Ellie Bishop to the CIA operation, he is basically like, “What the hell? Am I going to be alone constantly?” So, there is a next step in his character’s journey, taking care of Victoria, which is fantastic.
Also, Katrina Law’s character, Agent Knight, we could see some stuff out of her that we haven’t seen before. She’s got some new doors open, which is really, really fun. There’s one scene in particular, and you’ll know when you see it, where you just go, “Oh, man that kicks ass. That’s really cool.”
And then I’ve got to say, Diona Reasonover is fantastic with her performance in this. I always love having scenes with Diona; she’s one of my closest friends on and off the set, and I was really glad that she was able to shine in this. And Sean Murray’s McGee also gets to step up and take charge in a moment when he needs to. And Parker (Gary Cole), we get to see him operate with a little defensiveness of his team and get a bit pissed off.
Tumblr media
Obviously, I’m kind of naming off all the characters, but when Scott [Williams] and I sat down to write this, we thought to ourselves out loud, “This easily could become just about two people who are in trouble, but our series has always been about this team and how it supports one another.” One of our producers once said, “You know, our show’s not ripped from the headlines, it’s ripped from the characters,” and I really like that about our show. That’s the DNA that I’m tuning into each week.
TVLINE | How have I been covering this show for what feels like half my lifetime and I never heard that “ripped from the characters” quote before?
Isn’t that cool? That was Josh Rexon, who used to work on our show and then went to go work on [NCIS:] New Orleans. And it does make a lot of sense. We try not to get too topical with current events-type of stuff because we want the show to be able to be viewed at anytime and be like, “Oh, yeah it’s relevant because it’s about the humanity of it” as opposed to doing an episode on whatever.
TVLINE | So, no trip to Hawaii for Brian Dietzen for the March 28 crossover?
No. I was asked about that at the beginning of the year and I said, “Sign me up!” And then it came down to Wil and Katrina going. I believe Diona is also going to be doing a scene, but from here [in California]. So, no, not this season. But I’m holding out hope for next season. Maybe they’ll do it either at the beginning of the season or the very end, so I can parlay it into a couple of weeks there.
Tumblr media
TVLINE | Are you confident that you’ll at least get a postcard from one of the others?
Oh, God, no. I won’t even get a text. [Laughs] They’re having too much fun. I was just looking at their Instagram feed, and I’m like, “Oh, that looks nice”… says the guy in Southern California. Hey, I’ve got nothing to complain about.
TVLINE | Lastly, can you tease anything else that’s coming up this season?
A lot of it is a bit of a mystery for me because our writers right now are breaking the last couple of episodes. You know, we weren’t initially picked up for, I think, 21 episodes. Because of COVID, everyone was picked up for a bit less, and we got our final numbers solidified not too long ago, so everybody’s kind of in a mad rush to break everything and get the writing assignments and whatnot. But I do think the thing that’s going to be happening — and one of my favorite things in the world — is that you’re going to see this team coalesce even more and come together even more. But yeah, there are definitely a few “big events” that have been floated out there that I’m hoping come true, but I can’t report on them because I plain don’t know yet!

NCIS Hawai’i: What’s in a Name?
Happy Monday! I decided to make a long post about character names and meanings in NCIS Hawai’i. I included what I already said about Lucy and Kate in this post (with a couple of additions), and added the rest of the NCIS Hawai’i team. It’s a bit long but I think a decent amount thought was put into their names so that’s cool!
Tumblr media
Lucy Tara: Lucy (coming from Latin) means “light;” Tara (coming from Sanskrit + some other related languages) means “star.” To me, these names together show that Lucy is the type of person who lights up a room, someone whose compassion and determination, like a star, shine through and are a beacon for others. Also, Lucy is an overachiever and is clearly already a fan favorite--total star in her field 🌟! Her last name being Tara also gives some info about her ethnicity (i.e. possibly Arab).
(gif from @gaytvthings )
Tumblr media
Kate Whistler: Kate (nickname for Katherine, coming from English) means “pure;” Whistler (also coming from English) means “one who whistles.”
Well, first off, Kate is a pretty commonplace name but Whistler is a little more unusual. Second, if this most recent sneak peek shows us anything, it’s that Kate’s reasons for being a DIA officer are pure–she’s there because of her beliefs about how to best serve her country. But, most people call her Whistler, not Kate, and seem to find her to be more of a nuisance than anything (like, say, someone who whistles all the time lol). Also, she’s kind of like the referee blowing a whistle and putting a stop to the NCIS agents’ missions (Ernie literally referred to her as an alarm in 1x06 🚨). Last thing, the writers probably knew that a lot of characters would call her Whistler rather than Kate so maybe wanted something distinctive for that.
(gif from @fuckinprototype )
Tumblr media
Jane Tennant: Jane (coming from English) means “God is gracious;” Tennant (coming from Scottish and English) means “tenant.”
So for Jane’s name, I think the historical and etymological name meanings are less important than what her name /sounds/ like. First, Jane is kind of an everywoman (think “Jane Doe”) and I think her character is meant to be an everywoman--a mom and careerwoman in whom many women could see themselves if they lived in an alternate universe where they had been in the CIA 🕵. Second, Tennant is a humble name in that a tenant is not an owner or landlord but someone trying to live on the land. Tennant is in a position of power, but as a woman that position isn’t typical or guaranteed. Also, to me, Tennant sounds like tenet (and a quick google search shows that tenet is often confused with the word tenant)--a principle or belief. Jane is a principled woman and her principles guide her decision making.
(pic from tvline.com)
Tumblr media
Jesse Boone: Jesse (coming from Hebrew) means “king” or “God’s gift;” Boone (coming from French) means “good.” For Jesse’s name, I also relied less on the name meanings (although if I were straight I might say Jesse is God’s gift...to women 🤪). The name Jesse brings to mind Jesse James, the infamous American outlaw. The name Boone brings to mind Daniel Boone, a famous American pioneer and folk hero. So Jesse Boone is strongly rooted in American ideals and principles like rugged individualism. Basically, Jesse is an all-American guy, married, Christian, etc.
Tumblr media
Kai Holman: Kai (coming from Hawai’ian) means “sea;” Holman (coming from English) means “dweller on an island.”
I think Kai’s name pretty much says it all 🌊 and also makes me rethink his catchphrase from the pilot episode--never turn your back on the ocean. Kai is a native Hawai’ian and his roots are important to him and inform everything that he does. (Also just fyi, Holman has a few name meanings, but I thought island dweller was the most relevant).
(pic from tvinsider.com)
Tumblr media
Ernie Malik: Ernie (short for Ernest, coming from German) means “serious” or “battle to the death;” Malik (coming from Arabic) means “king.” I found Ernie’s name really interesting! I don’t actually know if Ernie is short for Ernest, but it’s a common nickname for Ernest so... Ernest means serious and the word earnest means “showing sincere or intense conviction.” Ernie is an earnest person--his work his highly credible, he’s passionate about it, and without him the team wouldn’t get far. That said, he’s a fun loving guy with a good sense of humor which explains to me why he goes by a nickname. And then Malik--I think this is mostly to indicate Ernie’s ethnicity but also, Ernie is a king among men 👑.
