SPY X FAMILY CODE WHITE: MY REVIEW WITHOUT SPOILER 😆

Firstly, do not believe them when they tell you its a standalone (it is 😆) and that you can watch it without following the series-- uh uh noo you have to KNOW THE FORGERS IN THE SERIES to really appreciate the movie's antics BECAUSE IT WILL make you wanna watch it anw (I guess the point). Both ways work then 😆 But really, knowing them from the series is the best because just like any Japanese animation, IT IS LONG AND LOTS OF TIS AND TAT, and ultimately still all about Forgers we love from the beginning (the intro didn't do it justice) their family, bonds and things that go way and around it... The movie is a basically a 4-episode storyline but with HD, and it rocks 😎

Secondly, each characters are given the spotlight and I'm happy this is a movie that focused on the main characters, unlike other anime movies that gotta add unknown-sus-problematic-damsels-that-need-ass-saving-or-villains-out-for-revenge-only-to-go-back-to-square-one THAT KIND OF MOVIE. I appreciate that even though the characters did not have any significant development or change, they highlighted what is already the characters' notable trait, and expanded it to something deeper that will make you love them more (yes, I'm specifically talking about the adults in the series 🤭)

And thirdly, THE COMEDY AND ACTION HAND IN HAND aghhh... Oh Anya... Dear Anya, you really... I gotta love how her adoptive parents love her. How she is full of energy and tricks up her sleeve, and just pure joy to follow around. Loid is simply the man here, and Yor motherly with a side dish of manliness, I just cant get enough of them. Even Bond has his moment, too. Do I say anything about the animation? 👌

One thing that really captured me to this series is its ability to make you root for the characters' flaws and find affection to the juxtaposition of simplicity and complexity of life presented in its universe. It's also more of each character trying to be stronger and reliable in order to protect their little family, co-dependency really just flying out of the window, and its sweeter.

So I find myself wanting to watch it not once, twice, many times over, that's how much I adore the characters and the storyline. Which is just it- the storyline itself is perfect to showcase each character without falling out the interest of viewers, still focused on a family wanting that trip together, not separating, period.

I didn't spoil anything, did I? We didn't even get to the part why it's called 'Code White' 😆 make a guess 😆

Been slowly working through Spy x Family. Just finished episode 5, loving it so far. Probably gonna start posting my thoughts on some episodes once I finish them.

Lloyd going along with Anya and her "spy show" shenanigans was just too precious. He's doing whatever it takes to make her happy, even if he tells himself its just for the mission. Anya is just bursting with excitement the whole time like the precious angel she is.

The fact that every single person in that castle knows exactly who Lloyd is exept Yor is too funny. She's just there and clearly had a few too many drinks to start questioning what's going on, but she's still ready to kill to protect Anya. I mean, she's an assassin, so that's not really surprising, but its still funny seeing how quickly she jumps to murder for the sake of her "fake" daughter.

For the world's greatest spy, Lloyd is REALLY bad at keeping his job a secret. Sure, Anya knows because of her telepathy, but he's still not exactly... subtle. The only reason Yor doesn't suspect anything is because she genuinely doesn't seem to realize there's anything out of the ordinary. They're both so involved with their jobs that they kinda forgot what normal people are like.

ooh, also, i had a fun dream last night

essentially, me and a group of friends are dealing with vampires, and are going to need to infiltrate a big party being held by a fuck ton of them. the plan we come up with is to impersonate a family who have been invited, which involves a bunch of strange stuff.

notably, i am playing the role of a woman called Josephine Brumont, wife of the other older vampire (played by a guy in our group that i have 0 romantic interest in), and who is a belgian expat (wallonia specifically, i suppose). this is something of a problem, as i am definitely not belgian, and my french is abysmal. but im the only person in the group who can possibly play josephine, so josephine i am.

we arrive just on the stroke of 10, having had an ordeal to get there in our disguises. and now that we're there, we find out what the party is really about - solving some murder than occured recently. the host had invited everyone who was a suspect, plus the +1s and so on that would make this seem normal. uhoh!!!

we're each one by one interrogated by the host. I manage to bumble my way through my interrogation, explaining my 'improved english' to the work of my dear and patient husband, and having the answers to questions bc we were quite possibly actually involved in the murder. unclear.

i'm then asked a question that i, isaac, would have no way of knowing, but josephine would know in a heartbeat. my "husband" is like 'oh shit oh fuck'. but lo! i have a lil psychic vision, and im able to explain exactly what josephine was doing at a given time. im released from talking.

that question was meant as a trap, and because i passed, they dont give a shit about me anymore. but some other guy isnt buying it. something up with me. when the lights briefly go out, he attacks me. surprising him considerably, im able to fight him off, flinging the knife he attacked me with away towards the table of refreshments, and berating him for daring to lay a hand on me in such a fashion. he gets dragged off. the vibes suggest he may have been the actual killer, but its not important.

however, i didnt fight him off that well. he stabbed him in the back, in a spot that gets hidden by my long hair (a wig?) and my shawl.

the dream at this point has what i call a 'remix' moment, where it happens close enough to being awake that i can choose to redo it. in the first version, i go up to my "husband" and inform him of The Injury, and beg him to actually turn me into a vampire so i dont die from it. there an argument, which doesnt get the chance to resolve, but i assume involves the fact we're in public and turning me now would reveal that i was human initially. problematic, yknow.

in the second version, i completely hide the injury from everyone, including from my friends, because i know vampires dont bleed. if i reveal that im bleeding, well. so i hide it, get by on adrenaline for a while. for some reason or another, our group get found out (NOT because of me, as far as i can tell) and we are forced to flee to the fancy car we drove here, and we speed off into the night.

its in the backseat of the car, with the member of my group that i'm closest to, that they found out about the successful stabbing.

in my musings later, i decided part of the reason they didnt realise i was actually injured (other than ~exceptional acting~) was that when i threw away my assailants dagger, it hit the punch bowl full of blood on the refreshments table, so that when anyone spots the bloody dagger, they assume its from the spilt bunch, not from Me, Josephine Brumont, 100% Real Vampire.

the later musings also had my friend in the backseat turning me into a vampire when it became unavoidably clear that we were not going to make it to a hospital in time for me to not actually bleed the fuck out, making it the only way to save ya bois life ✌ booyeah

The recent episode of Spy x Family made me wonder if Anya's seeming lack of talent for most things is because of her young age or because she was deprived of so much during her time as a lab experiment that she has little experience with just about everything.

It’s probably a mix of both, but also she lied about her age. I don’t think it’s as obvious in the anime as opposed to the manga, but she wanted to be adopted by Loid so much that she just answered the age he wanted.

I think she’s actually canonically like two years younger than everyone else in her classes, which is a huge difference when your that little. That’s why she’s a bit smaller than everyone else too. I think they’re all 5-6 where as she’s probably 4-5??

I haven’t gotten too far into the manga, but so far it doesn’t really cover her back story too much. I’m sure being kept in isolation and experimentation had an impact on her mental and physical growth as well.

(Tbh I’m like 3 episode behind but also I read most of the manga lol)

fascinating to me that the whole “don’t judge a book by its cover” mentality has really gone out of the window in terms of media consumption in recent years. meaning that the amount of mediocre or just plain bad content (books, movies, shows, etc) that get heaps and heaps of praise just because they look pretty (or in terms of movies/shows, have the right names attached) seems to have multiplied. 

#in some ways it sort of feels like the golden age of hollywood in which more weight is given to the actors involved #than anything else #which isn't inherently a bad thing on a personal level like we all have actors that we like and support #but when the cast is ALWAYS your sole motivator behind creating/watching stuff then...idk! feels like you're deliberately missing out #anyway this isn't inspired by any specific thing just a trend i've noticed #also something that isn't always intentional and ik i've been guilty of it #see: not thinking last night in soho was THAT bad because of anya + it was a very pretty film #but in hindsight i was like. oh. good god there are so many flaws in that.

Spy x Family Episode 12

Poor Lloyd is so overworked, but he still tries his best to be a good dad.

As usual, Anya trying to "help maintain their cover" in ways she shouldn't really know about is... well, she tries. Pointing out how normal someone is doesn't usually have the intended effect, but children say dumb things, so luckily nobody thinks much of it.

He sounds so dead inside trying to say no to an extra mission, but chemical warfare IS a bit of a problem... poor guy. Stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I'M SORRY, HE NEEDS TO GET WHAT OUT OF A PENGUIN? HOW IS HE SUPPOSED TO DO THAT?

Lloyd has absolutely no idea why Yor kicked the guy through the roof, but he doesn't question it.

The family may be fake, but his love for them isn't.

Anya trying to get into their spy/assasin stuff seems... not exactly thought out. I know she thinks its all super cool, but last time she messed with it she ended up getting kidnapped. And now she’s trying again. Lloyd totally overreacted, but his concern was valid. And seeing him forced into the role of "parent pretending to be a spy to appease his kid" is always funny.

Anyways, aquarium shenanigans were fun
