I have such affection for Darlin because they are so atypical for a romantic self insert audio rp character. They are standoffish, gruff, tough, quiet, a loner. They don't want help, don't need help, don't want to bother or endanger others, they love fiercely and loyally. They're rude and crude and sarcastic. They are foolhardy and independent. I don't necessarily relate to all these traits but having a self insert who isn't shy, quiet, waifish, helpless, feels so empowering and they might be my favorite, most relatable listener character.

last post before i disappear to edinburgh for a week BUT if i was gonna make a cassie’s narrative-centric multimuse, the characters i’d include are under the cut:

cora rike, a tv psychic who was taken off the air after one too many mistakes in missing persons cases. she settled down with a man she only half - loved and spent ten years as a housewife and a mother before she decded she couldn’t take it anymore. she takes her family all around the world, acting as a home renovator who also doubles as a supernatural expert, clearing away the bad vibes of the house as she redecorates it.

andrew rike, cassie’s father. he is a sad, bumbling man who used to be the atypical man of the house before his life was uprooted. he is desperate to please his wife, though he feels a distance between them and his daughters. 

athena rike, the eldest of the rike siblings. burnout, stoner, lesbian. athena leaves after a messy, blown out argument with her mother and only returns home at christmas. she’s cassie’s favourite sister, mostly by virtue of never being there. she was once the owner of cassie’s van and is responsible for most of the decoration. athena can communicate with ghosts and channel them in her own body; she treats this as an accessory rather than a burden.

cleo rike, second oldest sister and complete neurotic mess. cassie’s least favourite sister. cleo is the most violent of the sisters and the more likely to cause trouble for trouble’s sake. she can see the future, but refuses to tell anyone anything because she thinks that’s messing with the natural order. she is very straight - laced in all regards except she will throw a fucking PUNCH if the situation requires it. cleo is seen to be their mother’s favourite, which is not true. athena is her mother’s favourite. cleo is tolerated. 

clotho rike, dead before the narrative even really begins. clotho is bright and kind in every sense, though she is often twitchy. clotho often sleep walks and has rather muddy visions. she can read tarot, but she doesn’t have the showmanship that cassie has with them. she makes quick friends with people, though she worries about never having long term connections. at 15, she leads a group of people into the new house her mother is taking care of and watches them slowly getting killed, dying at the end of the story. 

barnaby isaacs, the priest that becomes obsessed with cassie after her possession. he thinks he cure her and expands all of his energy on it, taking his time to research world - eater’s extensive past and its motivations. he becomes so devoted in his story that he undergoes a false possession. while he believes himself to be possessed and begins to dine on flesh because of it, cassie decides to believe she isn’t possessed. he indulges where cassie abstains.

world - eater, HER DEMON LETS GIVE IT UP FOR HER DEMON PARASITE BABY LOVER BEST FRIEND.

an assortment of all the strange and wonderful supernatural creatures that cassie has encountered. i’ve been wanting to rp a huli jing for so long... this will be my opportunity.

i don't write these anymore, so i'm wildly out of practice (you've heard this spiel before, i'm sure!), but i'm hoping to put down just... things. things i write, things i'd like to write, random dust bunnies that look like they might have thought about a plot once. you know.

i mostly center my rps on romance, for better and for worse. i am not great at writing multiple characters in a scene, but i could probably use the practice.

likewise, i don't often write dominant characters, but i do want to uh, stretch my legs in that realm. i'm just a chickenwuss about it.

i mostly write male/masc-leaning characters, whether that's trans men, butch-leaning women, masc enbies, and a buncha things in between.

i love fake dating tropes, for whatever asinine reason we can think of. one bed? great. fuck or die? amazing! kept in a human zoo by aliens? sure, sounds fun! bring the nonsense tropes my way, i'll eat them up.

i have a very guilty love of the omegaverse, and even though i've been writing in it for like a decade, there's always something new and fascinating to explore! to be honest, i'm happy to add it to just about any plot, including atypical secondary gender pairings (alphas and betas, omega and omega, etc!)

At some point over the last 6 or so years, I have written some spiel or other about my main RP characters on their respective blogs. They were focused on answering the questions ‘How did this character come about?’ and ‘What was the inspiration behind them?’

I never went in depth about this one aside from a more self-indulgent than usual gush about her when I finally completed the druid class hall campaign during Legion. Back then, I said that she’d never become an RP main. She hadn’t been a content main since early MoP.

Like many players who are bringing their druid characters back for the 10.2 patch, I suppose I have resumed picking her up to play the game again. But since earlier this year, I have also started to take her IC again after many years, and give her another chance at actual RP.

I have been RPing for a solid 12+years at this point. I can count on one hand the number of times I have actually taken Nara out to interact with other player characters. This was always at the request of people I knew. My mage was the first character I RPed, but my druid was The Prime. Nara’enil was my character when I started playing WoW.

There are a few reasons I never focused on her for RP. One was that I loved my blood elves and I had a lot of meaningful RP on them. Time was a luxury that I did not have to focus on a totally different character in a different community. When I decided to explore a different avenue of RP with my RP friends, we turned to troll, and Nara became a Darkspear druid.

I didn’t commit to Alliance side RP until late Legion to BfA. The years preceding that were entirely spent on Horde, whichever characters I chose to RP, and I had (and still have, even if shelved) a plethora in my roster. The troll became a tauren, and finally in Legion, she returned to being a night elf once more.

I never felt I needed an RP community or other RPers to be able to tell Nara’enil’s story. The scant few times I’ve taken her IC have always been for other people. Each time I’ve changed her concept a little, just to make her more lore correct and to fit in with the other PCs’ stories. The sad thing was that they never progressed at all.

Though I’ve taken her IC more times this year than I did over the previous 12, I didn’t feel comfortable. It was, as I look back in retrospect, due to my changing a significant part of her personal backstory yet again to suit someone else’s character. After that character’s RPer decided to change that without consulting me - something that I was upset over - I surprisingly felt better reinstating that which I removed, and she felt whole again as a concept. It was as if this was what she was supposed to be, and not a someone that could be tweaked according to other people’s whims.

I went into detail before when I mused on the truth behind the characters I mained in my RP history, but they could all be summarised in this answer to a question in the guild I am in on another character:

‘What is your self analysis on why you RP what you RP?’

My answer:

I have a variety of chars over the years and are mostly a result, consciously or subconsciously, of:

1. Lack of bloody control of my real life things like WORK and STUPID PEOPLE (thanks NHS). So my first OC that I actually rped was a belf magistrix who TAKES ZERO SHITS and will tell it like it is. Like House MD.

2. My being chronically low key or at times high key unhappy IRL so I made characters who are easy going and live/let live. For eg, my orc warrior who is exactly like that. Simple life simple goals, like slaughtering quillboar and evil asshats, and then going home and looking after her wolf.

Most of my chars are some variation of these two for balance. Can’t rp a moody char all the time so I need to balance it out with a chill one.

3. Atypical paladin archetypes, born from a goddman desire to do some damn good for people, regardless of the circumstances and how goddamn HARD it is. (Thanks NHS). Also a way to explore the ways you can have a purpose in life that’s not associated with reverence or belief in anything “divine”.

RPing these archetypes came at a time when I needed to process my own healing journey from depression and all the Emotional Baggage that came with it. I think these have been my favourite chars looking at my record. There’s always some aspect or other creeping into non paladin chars of mine.

What is interesting is that over the years, the types of characters I played also slowly progressed in this manner, from the aloof and serious, to the more laid back, to attempts to find a light in the darkness and the hope to carry on through the worst moments of my life.

I play two characters concurrently now. My gnome mage does not have an RP blog but she is my go to for IC interactions as she belongs in a guild. She is also the chill character to balance out Nara’enil, whom I have had some RP only with people I know, because I still haven’t been comfortable interacting with the rest of the community.

As I quietly processed the aftermath of the latest retcon, I slowly understood why Nara’enil took shape the way she did, and settled into the character she is: I want to explore what it is like to sit with sadness. Without the stoic heroism of trying to battle it with staunch belief or principle or inner strength, like I did with my paladin characters.

ACT is something that has done more world of good for me than anything else in my healing journey. It’s not always possible to soldier on and force yourself to carry the beacon of hope. Because if you’re always trying not to feel the sadness, then the sadness will always be there chasing you. Sometimes you just need to stop running away and sit down with it. Feel it without indulging it - instead be curious about it.

And then you let it go.

Grief is an emotion that cannot be pushed away at will. It is something that needs to be felt in all of its stages. Whether they come in the classic textbook manner, or whether they come all at once or completely out of order. No two people grieve the same, but everyone needs to feel it and go through it in order to move on.

Ultimately, grief is a form of love. If there is no love lost, then grief would not exist in the first place. The analogy of it being a ball in a box is perfectly true in describing its imperfect nature. How the pain of it is triggered by that one button in the box whenever the ball strikes it, and the pain intensity doesn’t diminish - it’s the ball that grows smaller with time, support, and love both from other people as well as from yourself. It grows smaller with healing.

Sitting and feeling awful emotions. Acknowledging them. Understanding where they come from and why. These are things that are part of an ongoing journey of healing. Sometimes you end up pushing people away and choosing to be alone. Sometimes it’s learning that not everyone grows with you. Sometimes it’s learning that you are not alone and that there are people who do love you and are there for you. Sometimes it’s the process of learning all or one or some of these hard truths. Sometimes it’s learning that you’re not the person you used to be, and you have to discover who that is after a lifetime of being someone else.

At this stage, after so many years of RP, I have come full circle in realising that sometimes the best stories don’t always have to come in collaboration with others. Sometimes the best stories are the ones that you tell on your own, because they are just as precious and significant to you, even if they are not for anyone else including those whom you collaborated with. That’s important too, no?

So you mentioned a while back that you don't ever really see Steddie being into super masculine "traditional" roleplay, moreso high concept kinky stuff (I believe there was even a reference to some fantasy stuff, which makes total sense, dom Eddie would 100% treat sex like a DnD game).

So this led me to be curious... what kind of roleplay do you think Stevie and a chubby Eddie would get up to? Especially when there's feeding involved 👀👀👀 I'm just curious to see if you have any scenarios in mind, cuz for some reason I can 100% see these two being into roleplay (what with Eddie's flair for the dramatic and Steve basically just being up for most things Eddie likes cuz he's a s I m p /j)

You got me thinking and now Idk suddenly I'm picturing Eddie would like really weird and like atypical stuff, just like you were saying he's not gonna go for like "I don't have money to pay the pizza boy stuff" although there's a world where I think Steve convinces him to rp that kind of thing for once.

But like I don't know how it would work but my mind immediately went to Conan the Barbarian for some reason, I think Eddie wants to see Steve in a skimpy outfit with a loincloth and like leather bracers and stuff, and he'd want to be dressed in like furs and warpaint.

Maybe also something where Steve is Eddie's concubine or even vice versa where Eddie has Steve act like prince or a lord who he has to be the chubby little pet of, to do with as he wishes.

So. Much. Monster stuff. Like monster of the week sex Steve as some frightened villager and Eddie as like a vampire or werewolf or demon who wants to ream villager Steve. Fairy tales, myths. A Hansel style story is probably a little on the nose, but would be really good. Even just stuff about fairy lore too, like ending up being tricked into eating fairy food.

I'm trying to think of like how the kink is incorporated and kinda blanking but I welcome ideas 😈 if you ever wanna brainstorm for some scenes, maybe it'll inspire me to write some.

FTL: I do believe that I've made a breakthrough. I have isolated the genes that I believe affect instinct the most. Due to the fact that I have no semblance of poleplant genetics, I do not believe that I'll be able to implant the need to search for poleplants into the lizard, as my first thought on how to do that would be to make it capable of differentiating poleplant genetics specifically. Perhaps that's impossible in general. But I have come up with a plan that is the most plausible one I've had so far.

FTL: What if I were to make the lizard capable of eating poleplants? Currently unsure of how it would result in a sample getting brought back to me, but it would be a beneficial move either way. If it instinctively knows that something is safe to eat - whether I explicitly modify its instincts or not - then it would be capable of recognising the 'safe food: poleplants. I'm sure that a green lizard would be capable of winning against a poleplant, though if I give it some extra modifications to give it an advantage...

FTL: Though perhaps that would be a tad excessive. Either way, this is the best solution that I currently have. I'll have to think on how to instill the 'bringing a sample back to me' part, as well as what modifications will be necessary in order to make it capable of consuming a poleplant - as well as potentially those to help it in the defeat of its prey. Rather reluctant in the latter, as well. Last time I tried giving a lizard (though it was a cyan one) extra predatory advantages (venom, in this case), FTLR-3 happened. Though that's not the primary cause of my reluctance, but I suppose it contributes.

FTL: Speaking of FTLR-3 and the situation surrounding my defeat of it, I do still need to talk to Echoes of a Paradox. Perhaps a bit... cruel? Apathetic? Insensitive? Those are all words that fit. I do not blame him, and I must say that I'm somewhat relieved that I do not have to continue that conversation any longer. But I do feel that I should apologise, perhaps. My stances have not been changed, but I haven't made an effort as he was asking of me. I will not be doing so, and any apology that I do transmit to him would be sent at a future point in time. In the end, even he does not take precedence over my work.

FTL: Speaking of my work, I've come to the conclusion that this purposed greed lizard project has become its own project instead of a sub-project. I will be making a separate file for my observations, notes, and progress, as I do for all of my projects. Once this project is over though, it will continue to lead directly into the white lizard-poleplant hybrid experiment.

FTL: This really will be beneficial to succeed in this. I do believe that the methods that I will be employing in the purposing of the green lizard are perhaps atypical in the field of purposed organisms, though that doesn't really matter. It will be helpful to myself either way, on top of it being a very interesting endeavour in general. Perhaps I should have done this earlier.
